Memorial Day 2025: Remembering those who gave their all

Boy Scouts plant Memorial Day flags

Every year, on Memorial Day, I ask you to take a minute to remember why we have this holiday.

Each year, here on The Phinsider, I ask each of you to turn away from football for moment for a very special reason. Today marks the unofficial start of summer and features cookouts, friends, and the enjoying of a long weekend. But, this holiday comes with a heavy price tag, and I ask that we all remember why Memorial Day exists.

As I say each year, there is nothing wrong with enjoying your friends and family today. The service members for whom this holiday exists want that. That is why they fought for the freedoms we all enjoy. But it is important that we remember the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, and Coast Guardsmen we have lost. Their sacrifice is what gives us this holiday and the freedom to enjoy the day, friends and family, football, and everything else we love.

Over the years, Memorial Day has become a second Veterans Day, with the focus on the service member, but that is not the point of the day. While service members are never going to complain about receiving your thanks, that is not why we have today’s holiday. It is, instead, about those who cannot be with us. The ones who truly gave everything they had, including their own lives, so that we can continue to enjoy our way of life. It's for the men and women buried in Arlington National Cemetery, veterans cemeteries all around the country - and world - and for the ones who may never come home.

As the saying goes, "All gave some, some gave all."

Today is not about the all.

Today is about the some.

Friends and family members who left and did not come home. The service members who are remembered with crosses, Stars of David, crescents, and headstones. The service members that still lie on a battlefield somewhere in the world, and may never get the chance to be laid to rest with the rest of their family or comrades.

Today, “Happy” is not the right sentiment for the holiday. Be happy, enjoy the day, enjoy your friends and family, but remember, saying “Happy Memorial Day” is a little off.

Today is for Major Christopher Nogle, who I still do not understand how he is not here with us; I love you and miss you every day, Christopher.

It is also for Sergeant Christopher Taylor, Specialist Russell Nahvi, Sergeant Arthur Mora, Specialist Jose Rosario, Captain Kevin Smith, Specialist Lex Nelson, Specialist Joseph Lucas, Sergeant First Class Jonathan Lowery, Sergeant Benjamin Portell, Captain Rowdy Inman, Staff Sergeant Bryant Mackey, Staff Sergeant Chad Caldwell, Specialist Alex Gonzalez, Sergeant Jose Regalado, Specialist Corey Shea, Corporal Andrew Wilfahrt, Private First Class Robert Friese, and Sergeant Dennis Lee. It is for so very many others.

Today is a day to remember that freedom is not free.

Today is a day to remember the service members who died while serving our country.

Have fun today and tonight. Enjoy the unofficial start to summer. Hopefully you are grilling some great meat, crushing some amazing food, and enjoying great weather. Be smart if you are drinking, and don't drive.

But, at some point today, take a moment to remember why we have Memorial Day, and maybe teach someone else the importance of the day.

Your take on the medias take of your Miami Dolphins

SPORTS-FBN-COTE-COLUMN-MI

David Santiago/Miami Herald/Tribune News Service via Getty Images

The Miami Dolphins fan base has much to complain about, some legitimate and some not so much, depending on who you ask. Over the years, one of the more common complaints has been that the team is not respected by the media, especially by the national press. With that in mind, I asked the following question:

Do you believe that the media constantly disrespects this item, or is at least doing so right now? If so, do you think the team deserves more respect than they are currently receiving, and why? If you believe that the team is disrespected, what are the underlying reasons beyond the fact that they failed to make the playoffs? Do you believe there is possibly a bias against the city of Miami as a whole when it comes to its sports teams?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

Spok507 believes a lot of the issues stem from ignorance.

I don’t think it’s so much disrespect and lack of information. It just seems like a lot of these media outlets are guessing as to what the Fins need or have instead of simply doing a little research and finding out. I mean, leading up to the draft, the media and ‘experts’ constantly pick players that the team just doesn’t need. It’s like they’re just assigning someone because they have to instead of actually making an informed choice. It seems to happen every year and just makes me scratch my head in confusion. It seems unless the analyst is a dedicated Dolphin fan, they just don’t put the work in to make an informed report. Do I think we should be ranked at the bottom? No. We have too many weapons on offense that — if they click — should allow us to score enough to win a lot of games. Our defense at this point is suspect, and that could be a factor as to why we’re being held to a lower standard, but in my opinion, this team is more of a question mark than an actual bad team on paper. While we shouldn’t be considered one of the top tier teams right now, we definitely shouldn’t be considered one of the bottom either. Until we see if things change and click, there’s really no way to determine what kind of a team they will be. So ranking the Dolphins somewhere in the middle makes perfect sense.

21Dave asks why?

Why should they respect us? What have we done to change the narrative? 2 years ago they said our name with more respect for the first part of the season, then we became the same old Dolphins backed into a Wildcard and and then went home . We showed them we are the same team we have been for years… avg!! We need to go out and earn the respect and beat some good teams and beat them well.

sdphinsfan believes that some of it, rightfully, comes from playing like crap on primetime and against the better teams of the NFL.

When you show up in prime time and lay and egg...you get disrespected. When you consistently get waxed when you play good to great teams, you get disrespected. To those who think we’re disrespected, that’s something you’re just going to have to deal with. You get what you earn and we’ve earned exactly what we have. Personally, I don’t have alot of respect for the media. I mean, these guys think MM is a genius so forgive me if I don’t put alot of stock in what they say or who they disrespect.

MIAMI235 says if you win, it shuts them up!

Play winning football, especially WIN the ones you are supposed to win. Silences the doubt.

DX@TX says if you want it, then go out and earn it!

Respect is earned and the Dolphins have not earned it! They make bad choices over and over and don’t have the intellect to learn from past mistakes. No accountability on this team; just “we’ll get better”. I’m thinking 7 wins if Tua plays a full season.

Jptapt agrees with DX@TX.

You have to earn respect.

SabanpickedCulpepper believes that the Colts will go out and win one for their recently deceased owner.

Irsay passing means Colts win opening game at home. Guaranteed

Dolphster believes what others have said and points out correctly that the media did, at times over the last few years, believe that they were better than they played.

As many others have stated, respect is earned and the Fins have not done much to earn the respect of the national media. The 70’s Dolphins were respected nationwide because they won, Shula was the definition of discipline and consistency, the team seemingly handled their business in a professional manner (at least from what the fans saw), and the team was always among the least penalized teams in the NFL. I think all of those things combined created a lot of respect for the team. Today’s Dolphins don’t really seem to do any of those things, so in my opinion, they haven’t really done much to earn respect. Oh, additionally, for the last few seasons, the national media seemed to think the Fins were a playoff caliber team and then the team underperformed. Underperforming teams rarely are respected.

Phinsox can't take this team seriously until they can take down what is considered one of the better teams in the NFL.

I’m a life long fan but I am not taking the Dolphins seriously until they show that they can beat a good team and compete with the best on a consistent basis. I can’t blame the media or other NFL fans for dismissing the Dolphins chances for success. There is a legitimate case to be made that NE and NYJ have surpassed them. NYJ might be questionable but Vrabel is a difference maker for NE. I’m afraid they will beat the Dolphins at least once this year if not twice.

SlayerNation1 believes that Miami has been given the perfect stage to prove something to the rest of the country this coming season.

Lest We forget, MIA was graced with six standalone games to show the world how much they should be respected.

If they don’t take advantage of that, they will continue to be a punch line, by the media at large and this fan base.

Case in point, the crosstown Panthers were a joke for many years. Culture change = meaningful winning = league wide respect. It’s really a delightfully simple formula. Same city.

That’s our random ten for the evening. The consensus has changed since I asked this question a few years back. The prevailing belief now is that the team needs to earn the respect and that it should not just be handed to them until they can prove it. As with all of these posts, I want to thank each of you who took the time to read and answer our question of the day.

Taking a look back at the Dolphins trade of Patrick Surtain

Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills

It has been 20 years since the Miami Dolphins traded star cornerback Patrick Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs. It is time to take a look back.

Somehow, 20 years have passed since cornerback Patrick Surtain was traded by the Miami Dolphins to the Kansas City Chiefs. It has been such a long time that Surtain’s son, Patrick Surtain II, is now a star cornerback for the Denver Broncos. It is not possible that this much time has already passed, but apparently it is true.

The Dolphins selected Surtain in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft, pairing him with 1997 second-round pick Sam Madison to create a dominating duo that was seen as one of the best cornerback tandems in the league.

Surtain spent seven years with Miami, appearing in 108 games with 82 starts and recording 353 tackles, 77 passes defensed, 29 interceptions with two touchdowns, four forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and 6.5 sacks. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and was a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2002 and a Second-Team selection in 2003.

After the 2004 season, however, the Dolphins and Surtain could not reach an agreement on a new contract and Miami allowed Surtain to look for a trade. In April, Miami and Kansas City agreed to a deal, and the duo of Madison and Surtain ended.

Twenty years later, what does that trade look like? We take a look back at the deal.

Dolphins-Chiefs trade recap:

Dolphins receive:
2005 second-round pick
2005 fifth-round pick

Chiefs receive:
Patrick Surtain, cornerback
2005 fifth-round pick

What happened with the picks?

  • Dolphins’ 2005 second-round pick (46th overall): Matt Roth, defensive end, Iowa
  • Chiefs’ 2005 fifth-round pick (138th overall): Boomer Grigsby, linebacker, Illinois State
  • Dolphins 2005 fifth-round pick (162nd overall): Anthony Alabi, tackle, TCU

Recapping the players’ careers:

Dolphins:

Roth started his career as a rotational player behind Jason Taylor and Kevin Carter, moving into the starting lineup in his third season. He moved back into a linebacker role in 2008 as the Dolphins transitioned from a 4-3 front into a 3-4, continuing to serve as a starter as an edge rusher. In 2009, Roth failed the team’s conditioning test at the start of training camp; then head coach Tony Sparano indicated Roth had an illness, while Drew Rosenhaus, Roth’s agent, reported the issue as a groin injury. Roth was placed on the non-football injury list to start the season, eventually appearing in four games before Miami waived him. The Cleveland Browns claimed him off waivers, playing six games at the end of the season there, then returning as their starting outside linebacker in 2010. In 2011, Roth spent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Miami, Roth played in 65 games (23 starts), with 157 tackles, five passes defensed, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 12.5 sacks.

Alabi was inactive each week throughout his rookie season. He appeared in six games in 2006, then in 10 games in 2007. Miami waived him after the 2007 season, with the Chiefs claiming him off waivers, but waiving him at the end of the 2008 preseason. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2008 season, but was waived at the start of the 2009 season. Since leaving football, Alabi has transitioned into acting.

Chiefs:

Surtain joined the Chiefs coming off three-straight Pro Bowl appearances. He immediately assumed a role as a starting cornerback, spending three seasons there before sliding back into a reserve role, in part because of a shoulder issue, in 2008. He was released after the 2008 season, leading to his retirement. With Kansas City, Surtain appeared in 55 games, starting 49 of them, with 194 tackles, 28 passes defensed, eight interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one sack.

Grigbsy appeared in all 16 games as a rookie, playing as a reserve linebacker and a special teams player. He continued in that role through the 2006 season, then transitioned to playing fullback in 2007. The Chiefs declined a to tender Grigsby as a restricted free agent after the season and he signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins, assuming the starting fullback position but he only lasted two games before the Dolphins made a move to sign a free agent fullback. After sitting out the rest of the 2008 season, Grigsby attempted to return to football with the Houston Texans, but an injury sidelined him during training camp and he was released at the end of the preseason.

Who won the trade?

Maybe the Dolphins won this trade because Surtain could not match the peak of his playing days in Miami with the Chiefs, but this also signaled the end of a defensive era in Miami. Starting in 2005, the Dolphins were 9-7, then were 6-10, and 1-15 before the 11-5 2008 season. Other than that one year, when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was injured and the Dolphins found a spark with Comeback Player of the Year quarterback Chad Pennington, Miami did not make a playoff appearance until 2016. Surtain’s trade was not what caused a generation of struggles in Miami, but it was an early part of the process leading to the tough time Miami is still trying to end.

Surtain was good for the Chiefs, if not the All-Pro, Pro Bowl player Miami had when he was paired with Madison.

Roth was a solid player for a few years for the Dolphins. Alabi and Grigsby were players, but nothing remarkable about either of their careers.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Summer Plans Edition

Family roasting marshmallows over a campfire

Photo by: Education Images/Universal Images Group via Getty Images

Summer is almost upon us. For those of us with kids or grandkids in school, they will be out for their Summer break, which will begin somewhere between this week and next, with most colleges already on their summer break. For many of us, this means some sort of big summer vacation or trip. Some will stay in-state, while others will travel somewhere else within the U.S., or even overseas, or at least out of the country. Luckily, just about the time all the kids are back in school, or have school starting just around the corner, both the college and NFL football seasons kick off.

So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

What are your big or small plans for this summer? Will you, your family, your kids, or just you and your spouse or significant other be heading out of town or even out of the country for a bit of relaxation? Perhaps you have a staycation in mind where you can finally complete that one thing around the house or at home that you've been putting off or just haven't had the time to tackle. Either way, let us know.

5/28/25 UPDATE: Miami Dolphins Orange Jersey Award TRACKER; More defensive back madness!

NFL: Miami Dolphins Minicamp

Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Storm Duck awarded orange jersey for best practice performance.

As the Miami Dolphins continued their organized team activities in Miami Gardens, Florida on Wednesday, one player was recognized for their performance during Tuesday’s first OTA session.

Yesterday, cornerback Ethan Bonner shared the honors with EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips. Today, another defensive back was wearing the orange threads — this time, cornerback Storm Duck!

— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) May 28, 2025

With a trade of star cornerback Jalen Ramsey on the horizon, the Dolphins will need a youngster in the secondary to step up to fill the All-Pro’s massive shoes. Could Storm Duck be that player?

After joining Miami as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft, Duck ended up playing in 14 games for the Dolphins, while starting 3 of them. He finished the season without an interception, forced fumble or fumble recovery, but did have 4 passes defensed, 35 combined tackles and one tackle for loss during his rookie season.

We will be tracking which players receive the orange jersey honor as the offseason progresses. Want to help? Hit us up on Twitter/X at @thephinsider, or reach out to Marek Brave directly at @MBrave13, and let us know who is rocking the jersey with pride each day! Fins up!

Jalen Ramsey: ‘A new chapter awaits’

Miami Dolphins v Houston Texans

Jalen Ramsey is ready for a new start.

The Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey have been headed to a summer divorce throughout this offseason, with the team needing to wait until after June 1 to make a deal due to salary cap ramifications. As we get closer to the start of June, multiple teams are believed to be interested in trading for Ramsey, which could lead to a bidding war, allowing Miami to receive more in return for the cornerback, despite the large salary cap number he is expected to have in 2025.

On Tuesday, five days before June 1, Ramsey posted to X a simple “5...” which could signal he is expecting a trade to be coming soon. Technically, the Dolphins would have to make the trade official on June 2 - a “post-June 1” move would create the salary cap space the team needs - but the meaning, while somewhat cryptic, would seem to match up.

Wednesday night, Ramsey appeared to start saying his goodbye to Miami as he prepares to move on. In a couple of posts on X, Ramsey discussed “each & every chapter” he has had in his career - starting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, moving to the Los Angeles Rams, and now a two-year stint with the Dolphins - as well as looking forward where “a new chapter awaits.”

Is a trade already in place, with the teams just waiting until after June 1 to make it official. Does Ramsey know where he is headed for the 2025 season? And what will Miami receive back in exchange for Ramsey? We may find out in just a few more days.

I’m grateful for each & every chapter so far! every part brought me to a greater version of myself! Regardless of how things “ended”, the journey has been LOVE!

God is the GREATEST!

— Jalen Ramsey (@jalenramsey) May 28, 2025

For the record btw, i’ve loved every city i’ve played in & the fans who supported! the anger is very misplaced at times but sometimes valid too but real ones kno the intentions always solid! …

a new chapter awaits

What free agent tight ends could replace Jonnu Smith if Dolphins make trade?

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

If the Miami Dolphins trade tight end Jonnu Smith this summer, what free agent tight ends are available?

The Miami Dolphins are expected to trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey in early June, ending a two-year marriage between the South Florida franchise and the seven-time Pro Bowl player. On Thursday, a report from ESPN indicated Ramsey is not the only player who Miami may be looking to trade once the calendar moves into June. The Dolphins could be looking to trade tight end Jonnu Smith, who is coming off his first career Pro Bowl appearance and is seeking a new contract.

Miami signed Smith to a two-year contract in 2024, with a total value of up to $10 million with incentives. He has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract this year, but has a $4.6 million salary cap number. After his strong performance as Miami’s starting tight end in 2024, he is likely looking for additional years and more guaranteed money on a new contract.

The Dolphins do not seem ready to make that commitment, leading to the trade rumors. How would Miami address the tight end position if they were to trade Smith, who set career highs with 88 receptions, 884 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns in 2024?

Available Free Agent Tight Ends

There are not many tight ends still available on the free agent market, according to the latest free agency tracker at OverTheCap.com. Players Miami could consider, along with their 2024 team, include:

Jordan Akins, Cleveland Browns
Baylor Cupp, Kansas City Chiefs
Tyler Davis, Green Bay Packers
Gerald Everett, Chicago Bears
Peyton Hendershoot, Kansas City Chiefs (RFA)
Hayden Hurst, Los Angeles Chargers
Dalton Keene, Houston Texans (RFA)
Marcedes Lewis, Chicago Bears
MyCole Pruitt, Pittsburgh Steelers
Stephen Sullivan, Carolina Panthers
Geoff Swaim, Cleveland Browns
Tommy Sweeney, Chicago Bears
C.J. Uzomah, Philadelphia Eagles
Nick Vannett, Tennessee Titans

Akins is headed into his eighth season, spending five years with the Texans before two with the Browns. He caught a career-high 40 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns last year.

Vannett is entering his 10th season, having played for the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers, and Titans during his career. He caught 17 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

No one else on the list caught 10 or more passes in the past season. Everett could be an option if the Dolphins expect him to rebound after only catching eight passes for 36 yards in 2024 in his one year with the Bears. In 2022 and 2023, he caught more than 50 passes each season, tallying a combined 966 yards and seven touchdowns for the Chargers. Would he bounce back in South Florida similar to the production jump Smith saw in Miami?

Could Smith’s replacement be on the roster?

The Dolphins signed former Seattle Seahawks tight end Pharaoh Brown as a free agent this offseason. Primarily an in-line blocking tight end, he only caught eight passes for 65 yards last year. He is not likely to have a breakout and prove to be a pass-catching option behind wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Instead of relying on the tight end position, the Dolphins could look to running back De’Von Achane to be even more of a pass-catching threat than his 78 receptions for 592 yards and six touchdowns, essentially replacing Smith with Achane - along with a return to relying primarily on Hill and Waddle.

Miami also has Julian Hill, Tanner Conner, Hayden Rucci, and rookie Jalin Conyers on the roster in the tight end position group.

Could a new deal be made with Smith?

Prior to the 2024 season, head coach Mike McDaniel had said adding the tight end position into the offensive threat was the next evolution of his offense. Smith provided that evolution, but the Dolphins offense was much less explosive in 2024 than it had been in 2022 and 2023. Could they simply look to move on from Smith as a sign the team is planning to return the offense to something more like the first two years of the McDaniel era?

Smith would prefer to stay with the Dolphins, according to ESPN’s report, but a new deal likely would need to be reached. Smith may be seeking a contract that pays him closer to $8-$10 million per year, while Miami could consider adding a couple of years to the back end of the contract with some additional guaranteed money and added incentives to protect themselves from Smith’s performance improving only for one year.

It seems like Smith could be on the move, with the Pittsburgh Steelers the rumored most interested team, but Miami could still look to work out a deal with Smith. It just might prove to be a little higher than they would like.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Best Trade All Time Edition

Super Bowl VIII - Minnesota Vikings v Miami Dolphins

Photo by Focus on Sport/Getty Images

As a follow-up post to last night's post (HERE), tonight's post will be the obvious flip side with the best trade by the team ever made, in your opinion. I guess that the vast majority of the fan base would automatically tell us that the trade of Laremy Tunsil, along with Kenny Stills and a 2021 sixth-round pick, takes the title. The Tunsil trade provided the team, which was entering yet another rebuild, with a 2020 1st-round pick and a 4th-round pick, a 2021 1st-round pick and a 2nd-round pick, along with tackle Julie’n Davenport and DB Johnson Bademosi. Those picks later became trade assets for Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, and draft picks Jevon Holland and Jaylen Waddle.

But what about the other trades made by the team over the years? Many of you may not be as old as some of us, but for many, the clear winner could be one of the great trades that yielded significant dividends during the Don Shula era. Shula made two trades in 1969 that proved to be huge. They acquired guard Larry Little from the San Diego Chargers in a trade for DB Mark Lamb. Linebacker Nick Buoniconti was acquired from the then-Boston Patriots in exchange for LB John Bramlett, QB Kim Hammond, and a fifth-round pick. As if those two huge names were not enough, they again made a trade the following year for wide receiver Paul Warfield’s rights from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the number 3 overall pick in that year's draft.

So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

What do you believe to be our Miami Dolphins' best all-time trade and why?

Your Summer Plans

Hiking By A Mountain Stream In The Bavarian Alps

With summer officially kicking off for most of us just around the corner, I asked:

What are your big or small plans for this summer? Will you, your family, your kids, or just you and your spouse or significant other be heading out of town or even out of the country for a bit of relaxation? Perhaps you have a staycation in mind where you can finally complete that one thing around the house or at home that you’ve been putting off or just haven’t had the time to tackle. Either way, let us know.

Below are some of your answers and plans for this coming summer-

sdphinsfan will be spending a lot of time with or on grass.

Let’s see...golf...cut the grass....golf...cut the grass...teach the grandbaby to golf...cut the grass.

Miami7 has a number of significant events scheduled for this summer. Congratulations to his son and his future daughter-in-law. Happy birthday to everyone celebrating a milestone year.

Eldest son getting married in June.

Best friend’s 40th July 3rd BASH on one-a the Finger Lakes in Western NY.

Wife’s 65th in August.

In between?.........creating as much one-of-a-kind wood/epoxy art as I feel like - and hopefully/maybe get a bar design/build along the way too (retirement gig).

Hoping to find - my now 2 year search - dream Classic 1948-53’ Chevy Pickup Truck & have some Summer to enjoy it.

Spok507 is downsizing before moving home! Good luck on the move!

I’m uncluttering this summer. :) Since I finally talked my hubby into moving back to Florida, I am going through my house and getting rid of stuff. It’s time for the great purge!! Townwide garage sale in June to get rid of a lot. Then we are going to have a tag sale when we’re ready to get rid of the furniture etc. So going through the house room to room and deciding what I don’t want to move (you accumulate a lot after living in the same place for 35 years!) is my mission!

Dolfanjoe has a summer of golf, fishing, and throwing away some cash in mind.

golf, fish and gamble a little ! Who to pick for Div. winners, AFC and NFC winners and of course the big game. Maybe a big fiver on each!

Jptapt is heading to Mexico in a couple of weeks for a couple of weeks.

Wife and I are headed to Playa del Carmen in 19 days for a couple of weeks. Good news is the resort’s cable carries the Miami stations. Nice to hear Dolphins news instead of the Bucs.

After that, a couple of road trips around the state during the rest of the summer.

DolphinsKings1 is going to be working hard this summer!

Well for me, I have 6 school days left at Canyon Creek School here in Billings, Montana. I work for First Student as a School Bus Driver. But, I do not get a vacation. I am the Team Bus Driver for the American Legion Baseball teams Billings Blue Jays and Post 4 Blue. I do all of their away trips here in Montana and Wyoming. So my Summer is full till August. Then I can watch some pre-season football and get ready for the 2025-2026 School Year on August 25th. There you go. My Summer!

dedstrk316 will be seeing that new grandbaby, which I am sure is super exciting!

My oldest daughter is coming down from Kentucky for a long weekend first time I get to see my grandbaby

finfanfromsiam is going to drive around and give away money!

Evening! Going gambling all over the state.

Well, some of you have some big plans upcoming, at least a lot more than I have at this point. If you missed the original post, please feel free to share your upcoming summer plans in the comments section. Again, thank you to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day.

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill says he wanted to “knock out” Mike McDaniel for not getting enough targets in a game

Miami Dolphins v Houston Texans

Every time Tyreek Hill opens his mouth, something bad happens.

Last week, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill said all the right things. Hill admitted to messing up and said he was doing everything he could to change his reputation. But behind the scenes, it appears that Miaim’s WR1 may not have learned a damn thing.

In a recent interview with YouTube personality Aidan Ross (Look him up), Tyreek Hill went on a profanity-driven rant about Bills Mafia. Buffalo Rumblings was upset about that, but what irked me even more was the video I saw when I opened up Instagram on Friday Morning.

The video, originally posted by FootballForever on Instagram, appears to be clipped from the same interview with Ross. In the video, Hill admits that there was a time when he wanted to ‘knock out’ coach Mike McDaniel for not seeing enough targets in a game.

“Nah, Bro. I remember one game I wanted to knock out Coach McDaniel,” Hill said. When asked why, Miami’s problematic receiver did not mince his words: “because he wasn’t throwing me the ball, man.”

Whether or not there’s more to the clip, I’ll never know. I’m not going to go out of my way to watch anything these two do together. However, the fact that this thing was front and center when I first logged onto the app has me thinking it was fate. And what better way to report fate than on The Phinsider dot com?

Most alarming, whether he was serious or not, is the fact that he admits to getting upset at times when not being the focal point of the offense. As I wrote a few days ago, Hill has his eyes set on 2k yards this season. What happens if he doesn’t get the right number of targets throughout a game? We’ve already seen him quit on the team in a Week 18 loss to the New York Jets. Where is the line with Tyreek? Not to mention, Miami’s offense needs to continue to blossom, and making Hill the focal point, like they admitted to doing in 2022 and 2023, might not be what’s best for the team.

Nothing will likely come of Hill’s comments. The Dolphins appear set on having Hill around in 2026 with the option to move on after the season. And with so much uncertainty surrounding the futures of general manager Chris Grier and HC McDaniel, moving on from your top offensive weapon (I still think it’s Achane) isn’t what’s best for business. And even if they wanted to move on from Hill and would grant him his wish that he proclaimed at the end of last season when he said he wanted out of Miami, who would want him?

With each passing day, it becomes more clear that Tyreek Hill is a ticking time bomb. The Dolphins just have to hope he waits until after the season to detonate — otherwise, Coach McDaniel could see his NFL head coaching career come to an end, just as quickly as it started.

What are your thoughts on Tyreek Hill’s comments about wanting to “knock out” coach McDaniel for not getting enough targets in a game? Do you think Hill becomes an issue as the season progresses? Or do you think he regains focus and becomes the elite wide receiver he once was? Let us know in the comments section below!

Welcome to the Splash Zone, the quickest way to get your day started off right. We bring you a rundown of Miami Dolphins news from the last 24 hours.

The Miami Dolphins have a few pending moves they will or may make this month as the team starts getting ready for the upcoming 2025 season. With the calendar flipping to June, the expectation is that CB Jalen Ramsey will have a new home soon via a trade. We have known this for awhile and it will be coming to an end soon. Another trade that may happen involves TE Jonnu Smith as he is looking for a reworked deal. Smith was one of the Dolphins best players last season and would be a big blow to the offense if he were to be traded.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Will You Be There Edition

NFL: DEC 15 Dolphins at Texans

Photo by John Rivera/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

We ask Miami Dolphins fans which games they will be attending in person during the 2025-2026 season.

Most of us, being diehard Miami Dolphins fans which I assume, if you're visiting this site regularly, do everything we can to watch every game. Some of us watch from the South Florida market via our televisions, meaning that you get to see all of the games at no extra cost, assuming there are no blackouts. Some of us watch every game from different markets but have to buy NFL Sunday Ticket (honestly for what this service costs alone we should be able to watch every damn game), Amazon Prime, some other streaming service that has ESPN (or alternately ESPN+), a streaming service that carries the NFL Network, and possibly Max or Peacock to see them all. This year, Yahoo and Netflix will air NFL games, although you won't have to pay to watch the Yahoo broadcast, but you will need a smart TV, the app, and decent internet. Its exhausting to keep up with it all not to mention it gets way too damn expensive at some point.

While the NFL continues to rip off us fans that live out of market by putting the damn games all over the place in the name of profits others of you attend all of the home games. In contrast, others attend all of the games, and others attend an away game because it’s actually near where they live. Some of you wait years for the game to cycle around again to your town or a town somewhat close by.

So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

Will you be attending any of the Miami Dolphins' 2025-2026 games in person, and if so, where will you be attending them? Will you have to travel to either Miami or some other destination to see your favorite team?

Please let us know your plans to attend a game this season and maybe meet up with some other Phinsider members along the way.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Can They Afford To Keep Them All Edition

Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

We all know the saying around the NFL that you can never have too many pass rushers. I suppose that’s true, and our Miami Dolphins, at least for now, appear to be in great shape in that department heading into the 2025-2026 NFL season. The Dolphins head into the season with three of the best pass rushers in the game, assuming they are all healthy. Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, as we all know, are coming off a season that they did not finish due to injuries. Then there’s Chop Robinson, who by all accounts seems to be an ascending future star in the NFL.

Robinson isn’t going anywhere since he has already flashed, and we can only assume that there’s nowhere for him to go but up at this point. Then there’s his cost. If Chop continues to show that he’s the player we thought he was going to be at the end of last season, he will be nothing short of a bargain, at least until his rookie deal runs out. As for Chubb, the team gave him a big deal when he was traded to Miami, and while he only counts 12.3 million against the cap this season, the following two seasons balloon to just over 31 million per season. Phillips will be playing on his 5th year option this season with a cap number of just over 13 million.

If both Chubb and Phillips return healthy this season and demonstrate they can still compete at a very high level, the team will face a decision. Chubb is set to have a significant cap hit, and one can only assume that if Phillips performs at a high level, he too will secure a substantial contract from either the Dolphins or another NFL team. While it would be quite the luxury to move forward with three stud edge rushers, is it the most prudent play for the team financially? One of the most significant criticisms of the team overall is their inability to retain the players they draft and develop. This has long been the recipe for success for many teams, with a few notable exceptions. There’s also the argument that the team gave up a lot for some of the players that they traded for and thus need to do their best to get their return on investment.

So tonight's Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

If both Phillips and Chubb return and play at a high level, should the team try to keep both of them, trade one of the two, or let Phillips walk at the end of the year?

6/5/25 UPDATE: Miami Dolphins Orange Jersey Award TRACKER; running back surprise!

NFL: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

Jaylen Wright earns orange jersey award honors at sixth OTA session for Miami Dolphins.

The sixth organized team activity session for the Miami Dolphins took place in Miami Gardens, Florida on Thursday afternoon, and during that session a young, ascending skill position player was wearing the flashy orange jersey given to the previous practice session’s best player.

Was it wide receiver Jaylen Waddle? No. Was it speedster running back De’von Achane? Nope.

The man donning the orange threads was none other than second-year running back, Jaylen Wright!

Jammin’ with J. Wright pic.twitter.com/lUJKvbKsu9

— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) June 5, 2025

Wright entered the National Football League during the 2024 NFL Draft when the Miami Dolphins traded up to select the talented player out of the University of Tennessee. In his rookie year, Wright played in 15 games, yet only received 68 carries. He turned those carries into just 249 yards at a mere 3.7 yards per tote. He did not have a rushing score.

Still, Wright has been the subject of speculation this offseason regarding the workload the former Volunteer is expected to receive in 2025 — with some saying he could supplant Achane as Miami’s primary ball-carrier, freeing up Achane to line up as pass-catcher more often.

Time will tell if that speculation comes to fruition. However, if Thursday’s orange jersey award is any indication, Wright’s 2025 season should be one marked with significant growth from the 22-year-old.

We will be tracking which players receive the orange jersey honor as the offseason progresses. Want to help? Hit us up on Twitter/X at @thephinsider, or reach out to Marek Brave directly at @MBrave13, and let us know who is rocking the jersey with pride each day! Fins up!
