Phinsider Question Of The Day: Is the speculation ill informed edition!

Of all the 2025 NFL draft picks made by our Miami Dolphins, I have seen more speculation in the media surrounding seventh-round pick quarterback Quinn Ewers than any other pick made by the Phins in a long while. Most speculation has suggested that the Dolphins either took Ewers to replace Tua Tagovailoa due to his injury history, or that, now that he fell to them, he might be the one to do so, or that the team is now planning for that outcome. First is the position that the Dolphins took Ewers. Ewers was, from what I have seen, projected to go anywhere from the bottom of the first (I don’t think that was ever going to happen) to somewhere in the 4th. I’m sure that someone even had him going later than that, but I doubt anyone saw him falling into the 7th round.

Somehow, the media types who projected Ewers so high were off in almost every estimation. I have to assume that none of the NFL clubs had him on their board anywhere near the top half of the draft. If he had been, he would have been long gone by the time Miami selected him. The speculation that he was somehow chosen to replace Tua seems far-fetched at best. If the team were looking for that guy, they wouldn’t wait until the last round of the draft to grab him, no matter who the player they were targeting would have been. My speculation, which is no more valuable than the media guys' wild ideas, is that Miami was going to pick a quarterback. If a particular player fell, they would have taken him earlier. If not, then they would wait until the 7th and select the best available quarterback remaining that fit their needs.

Miami has stated, and at other times implied, that they would target a quarterback in this year's draft. Not as a replacement for anyone, but as a quarterback that they could develop into a long-term backup. Not necessarily the kind of guy who will go out and win games by himself, but the kind of guy who won’t lose games by himself while Tua is inevitably injured again and relegated to the bench. That being said, the NFL draft is more of a crapshoot than that of any other league. It's the kind of league where the number one overall pick might completely bomb and be out of the league in just a few years, while others might be seventh-round picks or even undrafted but still become not only starters but sometimes even stars in the league. Among those unpredictable picks, no position is harder to project than quarterback.

Although Ewers was projected to be selected much earlier, he ultimately ended up as a 7th-round pick for some reason. Even so, it seems that a player like Ewers, who was the number one overall recruit coming out of high school and then went on to have, by any metric, a very successful college career, should have been someone who a team would take a chance on long before the 7th round. Will he succeed? I guess it depends on your definition of success. If you are looking for him to be a decent backup, that seems reasonably possible. If you are asking if he will be a good to great starter or even a servicable starter, that's more of a 'who knows' kind of thing. While there are Tom Brady and Brock Purdy, who were drafted late and found great success in the NFL, they are clearly the rare exception.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: 2025 Undrafted Free Agents Edition

Following the 2025 NFL draft, the annual scramble among teams to sign the best remaining players for their most pressing needs begins. While Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has received a ton of criticism over the years for his ability to make the correct selections in the draft, he has had a decent knack for finding players with NFL-level talent from the UDFA pool over the same period. Below is the list of this year's group of UDFA’s for the Dolphins-

• Andrew Armstrong, WR, Arkansas- Armstrong was the leading receiver in the SEC last season, catching 78 of 118 balls for 1140 yards. One of the knocks on Armstrong was that he only scored a single touchdown last season, but for context, Arkansas was a run-first team that hammered the ball in the red zone. He is known for breaking the first tackle. Armstrong has only six drops in the previous two seasons and a solid 62.1% contested catch rate in 2024. He ran a 4.51 40 at 6’4 205 lbs. Projected as a 6th-round pick.
• Jalin Conyers, TE, Texas Tech- 6’3, 260 lbs. Jalin has experience running the Wildcat and can run, catch, and throw the ball effectively. He was considered a player who needed work on his inconsistent pass blocking and route running, but also one who could be a surprise at the next level. He was projected as a 6th- to 7th-round pick.
• BJ Adams, CB, UCF- 6’2, 187 lbs. A player that the Dolphins brought in for one of their top 30 visits. He specializes in man coverage, is a physical player, and is a solid tackler, missing no tackles last season. Has experience and is a solid special-teams player. Projected as a 4th to 5th round pick.
• John Saunders Jr, S, Ole Miss- 6’2, 210 lbs. He is explosive and known as a ballhawk. Had three interceptions and four forced fumbles in 2024. Operates well in either zone or man schemes. Often worked covering the slot with success and is solid in run support. He was considered a draftable player after the 2023 season. Projected as a late-round draft pick this year.
• Eugene Asante, LB, Auburn- 6’1, 223 lbs. Has a ton of special-teams experience with 727 snaps on ST in college. Ran a solid 4.48 40. Has a solid missed tackle rate of 11.3%. While sometimes spotty in coverage has a ton of upside as an explosive blitzer. His possible addition to the final roster could spell the end of Channing Tindall as a member of the Miami Dolphins.
• Theo Wease Jr, WR, Missouri- 6’3, 200 lbs. He is a physical wideout with solid hands, able to catch balls at their high point, but lacks explosive speed. Miami clearly liked Wease, giving him $ 230,000 to sign as an undrafted free agent.
• Ethan Robinson, CB, Minnesota- 5’11, 191 lbs. Has solid ball skills but is undersized as a DB on the outside. If he hopes to play inside, he will need to have a fairly significant improvement in stopping the run. Has promise at the next level but will need to show improvement between now and the end of camp if he hopes to make the roster. Possible practice squad addition in 2025.
• Josh Priebe, OL, Michigan- 6.5, 306 lbs. 4-year starter in college. Excellent size and explosiveness at the position. He needs to work on his first step, but he is a relentless run-blocker, very intelligent, and understands blitz pickups at an NFL level. He is extremely tough and competitive, playing until the whistle on every snap. Has a realistic chance to make the roster as a depth player.
• Addison West, OL, Western Michigan- 6’2, 300 lbs. He possesses elite speed and explosiveness, but is undersized for the position. Otherwise, he tested similarly to the top players drafted at his position. He is a versatile player, having played at all three interior line positions. Committed only one penalty and gave up zero sacks in 2024. If not for his lack of size, he would have easily gone at the top of the draft. Has the possibility not only to make the roster but also to be a steal as an undrafted free agent (UDFA).
• Tedi Kushi, OL, Western Michigan- 6’5, 302 lbs. Decent speed, good size, and athleticism, but still a long shot to make the roster.
• Nate Noel, RB, Missouri- 5’8, 194 lbs. Noel, being a bit undersized and not blessed with blazing speed, is unlikely to make the Dolphins roster, barring a season-ending injury to one of the other backs currently on the roster.
• AJ Henning, WR, Northwestern- 5’10, 185 lbs. Has limited production and struggles to handle physical defenders. 4.4 speed. The only possibility as a long shot to make the roster is as a kickoff and punt returner.
• Alex Huntley, DT, South Carolina- 6’3, 279 lbs. Was not super productive at the college level, but does possess natural athletic ability. Was projected as a 4th to 7th rounder as a developmental player at the NFL level—possibility to make the practice squad for the Dolphins, who need more depth at the position.
• Kneeland Hibbett, LS, Alabama- 6’2, 240 lbs. Hibbett, despite being undrafted, was highly touted at his position going into the draft. He was a four-year starter at Alabama and was named to the Mannelly Award watch list for 2023 and 2024, an award that goes to college football's best long snapper.
• Monaray Baldwin, WR, Baylor- 5’9, 172 lbs. Not super productive and not overly athletic. Longest of long shots to make the roster.
• Seyi Oladipo, S, Boise State- 5’11, 205 lbs. Another not overly athletic player who lacks the speed to run sideline to sideline with offensive skill players. Another long shot to make the roster.

The New England Patriots sat at 38 and if the reports are true, they were very interested in selecting him. If that is all true, the Dolphins made the right choice to trade up for Savaiinaea, because he wasn’t going to make it to the teams original pick at 48. The Dolphins wanted him and they went and got him.

Your take on the narrative surrounding the Miami Dolphins!

Our Miami Dolphins have finally admitted to the accusations from fans and the media alike that they have been too soft. Chris Grier then followed up the admission by spending their first two draft picks on big and hopefully mean players to man the trenches. With that, I asked the following question this past week:

So, with the knowledge that the team has finally, at the very least, attempted to address the lack of being a “tougher” team or “nasty” enough in the trenches during this years draft, do you believe that the team is finally headed in the right direction, or do you think that this is a little too little a little too late in an attempt by Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel to keep their jobs beyond this season? Has your confidence in those two gone up if you were out on them? Are you still out on them and believe it’s time for a refresh in the front office and with the coaching staff? Are you a fan who has believed all along, and does this only further instill confidence that they are finally going to figure this out?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-

dolphinfan1323 says it's a little too late and that the whole thing is going to hell.

It’s a little to late Mike has lost the team and skill position players are gone or aging sould have been done years ago the oline still has major question marks from health and unproven players and a complete lack of depth they drafted 1 offensive linemen and signed one coming off major injury and lost their best offensive lineman Armstead to retirement no guarantee this offensive line will even be better than last year

Bill Moody says it reads well, but let's see how it works in the real world.

I like what they are trying to do on paper, but until we see it translate to results, the narrative remains. And while I love what they did in the 2nd round to move up and get a beast of a Guard, I don’t think we can just add one guy via FA and one guy via Draft and say we’ve fixed it. More needs to be done, and I think more will be done before kick-off in September. So yeah, I like the direction on both sides of the ball in respect to building the trenches, now we need to see it work when the cleats meet the turf (my rubber meets the road analogy).

Alley Gator believes the problem lies more in the team not doing a good enough job of keeping their own players, rather than always having to replace them a few years later when their departures leave glaring holes in the roster.

Christian Wilkins was drafted #13 overall in 2019.

Robert Hunt was drafted in the second round (39th overall.) the following year.

So did drafting a DT in round one and a OG in the second begin an era of building the trenches?

Nope. They should have extended their contracts before they reached Free Agency and could not longer afford them, because they bought expensive toys like Tyreek Hill and Chubb instead. (They extended Chubb’s contract, remember? Don’t give me that “but they only spent a third rounder on him!” excuse.)

So say goodbye to DT Kenneth Grant and OG Jonah Jonah Savaiinaea in four years. The circle remains unbroken, by and by Lord, by and bye.

The Earl believes that being on the road vs at home is a factor in how they have played against the top teams around the league over the last few years.

That will be determined on the field. However...

“Their record against the top playoff teams is horrible. The Dolphins, except for their incredible comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, have generally been pushed around fairly easily by those teams, earning them their well-deserved label of being soft”.

I have been saying that one factor that hasn’t been taken into account is venue. Looking at non-divisional opponents, Miami has faced team’s with winning records on the road now than at home. Look at 2023. KC, Philly, & Baltimore were all road games. IIRC, every game against a team that finished with a winning record was a road game.

In 2025, the only team they play that finished with a winning record in 2024 is Pittsburgh. All the “good teams” they face: LA, Cincy, Baltimore, Washington, & Tampa Bay are home games. I think that plays a factor. The road games this season are softer. As such, I think they can go at least 5-4 at home. If they can go 5-3 at worst on the road, they’ll be a playoff team.

I do think they’ll be tougher and more physical. With the home schedule as it is, I believe they’ll change that narrative.

Luvs2drnk2.0 says that if the team and players want the narrative changed, then get out there and change it!

Narratives remain until the team or the players change it. Like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson can’t win the AFC Championship. Unless the narrative is about Tua, then it will never change regardless of what he does.

Dolfanjoe doesn’t believe the team will reach the Super Bowl, but they can make the playoffs if they follow the right path and maintain their health.

Vegas has us rated still at 8.5. Above that we might even make the playoffs. Below that and skirting with average at best. Super Bowl team ? Yea right . Health could certainly factor on the over under as it did last year. Can this draft and free agency help ? Of course if they picked the right players and the coaches put them in a position to succeed. Football 101, run the ball and stop the run. In this they look headed in the right direction. But of course time is the only thing that proves any of us, right or wrong........................

Miami1966 says all the problems begin and end with the head coach and general manager.

I would like to be proven wrong but the only 2 things standing between the phins and the playoffs is CG and MM

wolfpack1 wants some better blocking from the tight end position and for the team to focus more on a solid run offense.

This is quite the hot topic judging by all the comments. It’s no secret that this team has been soft for many years. Aside for a few key players, both lines get tossed around like rag dolls. The team needed some big, young, nasty players up front to stay competitive. The best way for Miami to win games is with a strong running attack and it was quite awful last season. The offensive line has been a revolving door of mediocrity for over 20 years and not having any tight ends that can block has been particularly painful to watch and handcuffs the play-calling. I would like to see some depth at TE and particularly some players that can block!

Alpha6 believes that things are heading in the right direction and that the team needs to consistently convert on those third-and-ones and fourth-and-ones.

The team got better, & is headed in the right direction.

To win many games a team must be able to get a yard anywhere on the field when they need to.

That’s been the Achilles heel forever on them.

This year they will get that yard.

The defense couldn’t defend the scores

Teams, to keep the offense off the field would run on them, & they couldn’t stop that.

They’ve got players now that will.

Those two corrections will win them games in past years they couldn’t.

MiMiami sees the HC and GM being shown the door with a month left in the season.

I'm still predicting Miami kicks off the firing season by week 13. Both Grier and McDaniel will be gone in the same week.

At the very least, Miami has attempted to start this inevitable rebuild with Patrick Paul, Chop Robinson, Ken Grant, and Jonah Savaiinaea.

Well, that’s our random ten comments for this evening. Some of us seem to believe that the team is heading in the right direction, while others think they are at least holding their own and possibly improving. Still, some believe the end is near for both McDaniel and Grier. I hope the more positive take is the direction it goes, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a bit pessimistic about things as a whole. I will, of course, as always, continue to root for the team every game, even when they disappoint me. Thus is the way of the Miami Dolphins fan!

Multiple Miami Dolphins earn “best pick” honors from NFL’s official website

Chad Reuter selects offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea and quarterback Quinn Ewers as two of his best picks in 2025 NFL Draft.

The 2025 NFL Draft provided numerous surprises for fans of many franchises across the National Football League — supporters of the Miami Dolphins not excluded.

The haul that our storied South Florida franchise came away with was celebrated by some — while being somewhat maligned by others.

Count one writer — Chad Reuter — of NFL.com as someone who was a big fan of a couple of Miami’s picks from this year’s selection process.

In a recent article, Reuter named his favorite picks from each round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and Jonah Savaiinaea — offensive guard out of Arizona — and Quinn Ewers — quarterback out of Texas — each made the list.

Here’s what Reuter had to say about the number 37 overall selection, Savaiinaea, his second best pick during the second round of the draft:

“I thought Savaiinaea had the potential to be a late first-round selection at guard due to his strength and short-area quickness. He started most of the last two years at right tackle for Arizona to meet a need, but in his earlier film and at the combine, it was apparent just how nimble and explosive he can be inside. The Dolphins lost Robert Jones in free agency, but this second-rounder could be as good or better.”

Robert Jones was a serviceable player for the Dolphins during his tenure with the club, but many Miami fans would be pretty disappointed if Savaiinaea were only “as good” as the recently departed offensive lineman. I’m going to bet he earns the “better” tag in short order.

Reuter would go on to name Quinn Ewers as his absolute favorite seventh round selection:

“Given the amount of time Tua Tagovailoa has missed over the years, including multiple absences due to concussions, I expected the Dolphins to select a quarterback to compete with Zach Wilson for the backup spot. Ewers might be likened to Wilson in unflattering ways, but the fact is, Miami found a potential NFL starting quarterback in the seventh round. If nothing else, a few strong preseason and injury fill-in efforts by Ewers could turn him into a future trade asset.”

Ewers unseating Tagovailoa as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback seems a bit farfetched at this stage of the game, but using the former Texas product as trade fodder in a year or two would be music to the ears of many Miami fans who covet draft picks like gold coins, myself included.

It’s no secret that Jalen Ramsey won’t be with the Miami Dolphins when the 2025 season begins. Heck, he may not be a Dolphins within a month. Your take on the meaning behind drafting former Texas Longhorn Quinn Ewers!

In the 2025 NFL draft, our Miami Dolphins used one of their sixth-round picks to select former Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Then came various posts suggesting that the team had directly selected Ewers as a replacement for current starter Tua Tagovailoa, or at least as a stopgap if he were to suffer further injuries, forcing the team to move on from him sooner rather than later. As with any NFL rumor, there may be some truth behind it, but just as often, they are merely something for someone to speculate on or falsely claim to gain clicks on their bogus stories.

With that in mind, last week I asked the following question:

Do you think that Quinn Ewers is someone the Dolphins are considering as a possible replacement for Tua Tagovailoa after the 2026 season, or do you believe they only see him as a potential long-term answer as a backup quarterback?

Below is a random selection of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-

FrancescoITA asks a good question. I don’t know, but it’s at least an idea that the media sells about what specific teams are looking for.

“but as a quarterback that they could develop into a long-term backup”.

Is that a mythological creature ? That you draft QBs, you develop them, and ‘pof’ you have your backup QB for years... I am not sure that this thing exists (Except of course exceptions ...)

twinssdfan sees him as a good player, but also, who knows?

I have the same take as the author: picking a QB in the 7th round is not a sign the team wants to replace Tua. If anything, it points in the opposite direction, that they’re looking for a guy they can train to be a solid backup.

FlyerFinFan believes that taking a chance on a guy in the 7th is a good gamble with only upside. I have to agree.

Doesn’t hurt to swing in the 7th I would have been ok with a QB anywhere from the 5th onwards. Who knows but let’s hope he can be a gem.

toscana jones sees Ewers as a potential long-term backup, and anything else we get from him after that is gravy.

So we went to the 7 eleven and got a 2 dolla scratch off. It has a bit of Slurpee spilled on it and we are going to have to wait and see if it is a winner. Afterall you can buy a 30 dolla ticket in the first round, try and scratch it but its still wet behind the ears and all the writing comes off ! Now you spent 30 buckaroo’s and cant even read the code. You did not pick well............ But that 2 dolla ticket has no pressure and you can let it dry for a season at least, might not even have to take it out of the drawer. Still have that 15 dolla ticket you picked up in NY and ready to cash it in if Your original 50 dolla ticket gets lost or damaged. Teach develop and hope for the best ! Hell even the Fin’s could get lucky sometime !

MIAMI235 thinks the Dolphins possibly saw the value late in the draft and pulled the trigger. This seems highly possible, as many projected him much higher in the draft.

Perhaps, it was as simple as a value play in the 7th round, with the idea of rolling the dice and see what he will develop into in Miami.

Spok507 took the cop out, and yet it is not wrong.

While ’you never know’ could be considered a cop-out answer, it’s actually the only real answer. Odds are against, but... I actually watched a game (maybe it was their bowl game?) and I thought Ewers was pretty good. Poised, in control, good arm and good decisions. In 3 years at Texas, he had 737 completions for 9,128 passing yards 68 Passing TDs + 8 Rushing TDs and 24 INTs. I’d say that’s a passable record. TX went to the playoff semi-finals his last two years, so he was able to drive the bus well enough for the team to succeed. And he managed to keep Arch Manning on the sidelines for a couple years despite the pedigree and national attention. Whether or not a college QB can make it in the NFL has more to do with his situation than his actual attributes shown during college. Brady wasn’t highly touted at all, yet he fell into the perfect situation with Belichick. Even Mahomes wouldn’t be the QB we see now if he was playing for the Panthers or someone else. Landing in the right place, with the right coach, system and philosophy is the key. Can Ewers be the next in that line? Maybe, maybe not. It won’t be immediate, and it’s extremely rare, but it does happen. Nobody thought Purdy would be where he is today. I watched him at Iowa State and thought he was good but never really thought his game would translate to the NFL quite like it has. When Tua inevitably misses a few games next season, it will either be Ewers or Wilson who have the opportunity to make their case. I’m really hoping one of them can.

That’s our random ten comments for this evening. I think there is at least a consensus that he might be something great, but also nothing at all, because none of us can read the future; if we could, we would be stupid rich by now. Your favorite Miami Dolphins 2025 undrafted free agents

Following the NFL draft, teams had their usual flurry of signings of the undrafted free agents that were left. Our Miami Dolphins were, as usual, fairly active in the UDFA market. In last week's post, HERE, I highlighted the different signings for Miami.

I then asked the following question:

Which of the undrafted free agents are your favorite, and which of the list do you see having a real possibility to make this year’s Dolphins roster, and why?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-

SuperG! believes that Hibbett is Ferguson’s replacement. Considering whatever was truly happening with Blake last season, since it seems like some super secret secret, this seems quite likely.

I just looked at Blake Ferguson’s contract and there’s no dead money in his contract if they cut him. There was something weird going on last year at the LS position and Blake Ferguson was on the NFI list for a good stretch of the year. I’m thinking they brought in the UDFA LS Kneeland Hibbett as his replacement.

MIAMI235 is understandably excited about the possibility of more offensive line help.

Encouraged by the idea of more OLine prospects that may contribute to the Team!

Dolphster likes the Auburn linebacker and the corner from UCF, who could have possibly gone mid-round to late in the draft.

The two I’m interested in are Asante and Adams. I think that Asante can make the team for his special teams play, but he has potential to be a WILL Linebacker in a couple years. I had him projected in the 5th round. For Adams, I had him projected in the 5th round also, but I think he went undrafted because of not playing since October and because he ran a 4.53, but I think he is a little faster than that. If he can put a little more weight on his 6’2” frame, I could see him handling bigger receivers after some deveopment. I think Hibbett will be the long snapper by game 1 of the regular season.

tpl is on the please get rid of Eichenberg already bandwagon. Sadly, since all of his money is guaranteed, he might remain a lock to make the roster. Let's hope the team is willing to eat the money. Then we can just continue to wonder why they gave the dude a fully guaranteed deal in the first place, or even a deal at all.

I am hoping one of the 3 offensive lineman beats out Eichenberg as a backup offensive lineman.

StanleyDoyle1 is excited about the offensive lineman from Western Michigan.

West is the guy to get most excited about. His versatility should allow him to make the roster, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting at center by season’s end.

Bill Moody likes four guys based on their solid bios.

Based off the bio’s above, these are the 4 stand-outs to me. But of course, they need to deliver when given reps and opportunity.

Jalen Ramsey trade rumors: Why the cornerback is still with the Dolphins and what is next?

The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey have agreed to look for a potential trade this offseason, seemingly ending a two-year South Florida stint for the nine-year veteran. According to rumors, Ramsey has lost faith in the Dolphins’ coaching staff and wants to move on. Miami, despite needing help across the secondary this offseason, seem to agree it is time for the seven-time Pro Bowl player to head elsewhere.

The NFL Draft would have seemed an ideal setting for a trade to occur, giving the Dolphins additional options in the three-day college prospect selection process. No trade materialized, however, and Ramsey remains with Miami.

During the draft weekend, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier mentioned a potential Ramsey trade, stating, “We’ve had conversations through the weekend with some teams about it as well, so depending on what happens and if and when it’ll happen; whatever it is, we’ll make the deal at the appropriate time.”

That appropriate time was not during the draft itself.

Why has a deal not been made already? The major factor may be money.

Ramsey is set to account for $16.7 million against the Dolphins’ salary cap this season, the third-largest number for the team. If he were traded before June 1, that number would jump to $29.2 million, with Miami losing over half its available salary cap space with an $12.6 million increase. If the trade happens on June 2 or later, the Dolphins would be on the hook for $6.7 million this year. The post-June 1 trade would create over $18 million in dead money next year, but Miami needs to have the flexibility to add to the roster this year, likely including adding a veteran replacement for Ramsey, that may force the Dolphins to keep the former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars for at least another month.

Grier indicated the money was not a factor in when a trade could be made as he answered a question, bringing up the June 1 ramifications. “No, I think we’re open to everything,” he answered. “We’ve been having conversations with teams but we’re open to whenever the right opportunity comes for us and the organization.”

The money could also factor into teams who are willing to acquire Ramsey. The Dolphins signed Ramsey to a three-year extension in September, including three void years with a $12.4 million cap hit in 2029. A new team would be taking on a giant contract and would have to make sure they have the salary cap space throughout the life of the contract.

The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as a potential trade partner for the Dolphins, sending Ramsey back to LA just over two years after the Rams traded him to Miami. In that deal, the Dolphins sent Los Angeles a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long. Could Miami see a return of a third-round pick two years later or has Ramsey’s value slid?

Rams head coach Sean McVay recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio and spoke to Adam Schein about the possibility of a trade for Ramsey, via Rams Wire. “There’s not too much of an update. He is a total stud, and you look at, obviously he has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father.”

McVay continued, turning to the possibility of a deal, explaining, “There are a lot of layers when you’re talking about a player of his caliber. ‘All right, with regards to the contract, the compensation that they would be looking for in exchange for receiving a player of his magnitude.’ And so those conversations are ongoing, as I’m sure they are with multiple teams. And we’ll see, but we’re never going to shy away from opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our roster or add great players as long as it fits within the framework of everything that an acquisition like that would entail.”

Grier was asked about the possibility of the Dolphins working to reconcile with Ramsey, trying to find a way to keep him on the roster this year. He replied, “I would just say we never close any doors on anything, but we’re just going to focus on the Miami Dolphins here right now, and the draft, and the players that we’re adding to the team right now.”

This is complete speculation, but could the Dolphins have asked Ramsey to move to safety as the replacement for Jevon Holland this year, leading to Ramsey’s “falling out” with head coach Mike McDaniel and the team? There has not been anything that indicates that is the situation, but could make sense. Ramsey wants to play for a contender this late in his career, and if he feels Miami is not one this year, that could be why he is trying to force his way out of South Florida.

It feels like the Dolphins and Ramsey are destined to part ways this summer - but it might not be until sometime in June when a trade gets completed. The Dolphins do not seem to be in a rush to cover additional money in the contract, and they are willing to wait to see what materializes as training camp approaches.

For now, Ramsey remains with the Dolphins, rumors continue to swirl, and everyone seems willing to sit back and wait.

Welcome to the Splash Zone, the quickest way to get your day started off right. We bring you a rundown of Miami Dolphins news from the last 24 hours.

Tua Tagovailoa is a good quarterback when he is on the field. But that is his main issue. He can’t stay on the field and the Miami Dolphins have suffered when he is not out there. Which is why improving the backup situation was a high priority this offseason. Will it work out? Guess we’ll find out when one of the new guys has to step out on the field. The Dolphins signed Zach Wilson, who has the physical talent and drafted Quinn Ewers, who is viewed as a developmental backup. It’s more than likely one of these backups will see the field at some point and we can only hope the Dolphins brass made the right choices.

Tyreek Hill undergoes second wrist surgery this offseason

Hill further addresses injury that hampered his 2024 season.

According to photos posted to Tyreek Hill’s official Snapchat account (@trackstar620), the former All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins underwent a successful second surgery on his injured wrist on Wednesday — an injury that allegedly occurred during joint practices with the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Hill’s first offseason surgery for his injured wrist took place at the end of February. Following the procedure, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the 31-year-old receiver would be ready in time for training camp. In recent social media posts from the official accounts of the Dolphins, Hill has been seen working with the team during the voluntary portion of offseason activities.

Hill’s current timeline for a return from today’s surgery is unknown at the time of this writing, but if his recovery time is similar to the last surgery he had, missing any regular season action seems highly unlikely, although his participation in offseason work seems up in the air.

There was plenty of speculation that the disgruntled pass catcher would be traded this offseason following remarks made after a Week 18 loss to end the 2024 season — a game that saw Hill quit on his team at halftime and then seemingly indicate he wanted out of Miami during his postgame availability.

An incident which saw the police called to a beach side apartment which Hill and his wife were occupying this April further muddied the waters on any trade possibilities regarding the man nicknamed The Cheetah. Hill’s wife — Keeta Vaccaro — filed for divorce one day after the incident, however their current relationship status is unknown at the moment.

All things considered, it feels unlikely at this current time that Miami will trade Hill this offseason, however, stranger things have happened in the never-ending soap opera known as the National Football League.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Holes Yet To Be Addressed Edition

The Miami Dolphins seemingly emerged from the draft addressing a few significant needs, particularly in the trenches. Although the team still has some needs, some appear to be more glaring than others. The one position that seemingly still needs a starter or two starters and more depth added is cornerback. General manager Chris Grier has seemingly thrown more money at that one position on defense over the years than any other, only to see it turn into the most worrying position going into 2025.

Corner Xavien Howard is gone, but will still cost the team $15,699,000 against the cap this year in dead money. Byron Jones was another failed experiment that the team threw a lot of money at, and now Jalen Ramsey wants out and seems to be on the way out of town just as soon as the team can manage to trade him. Ramsey was given a huge deal and another one right after that to keep him happy, which was clearly not enough. Ramsey will also cost the team additional dead cap space when traded this season and likely next season. Grier stated that the team expects former second-rounder Cam Smith to step up when asked about next season's starters, but does anyone really trust him as a potential starter going into the season?

The hole at defensive tackle opposite Zack Sieler was filled, but it’s another position that could use more depth pieces. Likewise, on the other side of the ball, the offensive line could use additional depth pieces. While Jonnu Smith was a pleasant surprise during an otherwise disappointing year, the team was expected to add a tight end in the draft as a bookend to Smith or at least as depth, but failed to address the position in the draft. Tight end depth might fix itself if the undrafted free agent Jalin Conyers is the steal that some believe him to be. While Grier has a history of mixed results in the draft and with some of his free agent signings, he does have a knack for finding decent players among the undrafted free agents.

Other positions that the team was thought to address in the draft were wide receiver and inside linebacker. Even with the rumors of Tyreek Hill wanting a trade or that the team would trade him having died down, the team was expected to address his likely departure after this season in this year's draft. My guess, for whatever it’s worth, is that the team will probably take a wideout in the first couple of rounds in next year's draft unless we find a surprise or two among the UDFAs we signed this year. An inside linebacker is not necessarily needed by the team at the moment, but the team has seemingly experienced constant turnover at the position in recent years. None of the ILBs currently on the roster is younger than 25, and the team could have used a young player or two to develop as long-term answers at the position.
