News Dolphins Team Notes

Phinsider Question Of The Day: What’s Happening Edition

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

As a fan who tries to follow everything with our Miami Dolphins, I was left confused by yesterday's news. For whatever reason, Star Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey has “agreed” to a trade with the front office. General Manager Chris Grier verified the report yesterday, but would not give any other information as to why this “agreement” had been made in the first place. Either way, the team already had a massive hole at corner, which is why it was assumed to be one of the team's top selections in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft. Now it seems the team will have two massive holes to fill at the same position.

It’s hard not to compare this with the Tyreek Hill issue, which has caused a constant stream of rumors that he will also be traded at some point this offseason. It’s also hard not to think back to the fact that both players are coming off an offseason where their contracts were reworked to bring them more in line with the top-paid players at their position. Each player could easily be considered the top star on their side of the ball, and both have signaled that they would like to be elsewhere, even if one of them now disputes that. I now have this fear that it’s possibly not just them. Maybe they are both just being diva, and by definition, that makes them difficult players that never seem happy, or perhaps it’s something more significant or deeper going on within the team's roster and their overall happiness being a Miami Dolphins player.

So this evening’s PQOTD is: What is your take on what is going on with the team right now? Do you believe there are deeper issues we have not been told about? If so, is the issue with the coaching staff, the front office, or both, or are these two players just divas, and we are better off without them on the roster?

Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-

Dolfans weigh in on Tyreek’s future in Miami!

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Sadly, it has become something that I now almost expect: a story about Tyreek Hill that is not a positive one. If the most recent incident were an isolated one, especially with the police stating that no law was broken, it would be something that could be easily shrugged off. I also suspect that if it were a rare occurrence for Hill, then the NFL would not have requested the 911 tapes to review them. The rumors of Hill being traded away would still have been one of the top national Miami Dolphins stories if not for the very confusing story of Jalen Ramsey and the front office agreeing to a trade. It’s seriously the most Dolphins thing to have this happen with one of their top players at a position that was already in desperate need of another player to fill a hole.

So, with all the negative buzz around Tyreek Hill, I asked the following question last week:

If the team were to trade Tyreek Hill, no matter your take on whether it should or should not happen, what would be a return that you would either be happy with or at least be able to live with as a fan?

Please share your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-

USMCFinzFreak, having been a fan for as long as I have been alive, feels much like most of us who have supported the team through many decades of disappointment.

I’m at the point in my fandom life (since 1970) that after many decades of mediocrity following the glory years, I’ve reached a point in my life where I don’t expect much from this organization. Getting excited about high profile player signings or being let down by letting good players go (Csonka, Kiik, Warfield to WFL was my biggest disappointment), has gotten old, like me. Gone are my up and down emotions concerning player this or player that. Now I just hop on and strap in the roller-coaster ride and let it take me up, down, sideways, and upside down, without me thinking about it or getting emotional. I’ll still bleed aqua and orange until my permanent dirt-nap, but I won’t die stressing about any player coming or going. Fins Up!!

holland182.0 ideally wants a 3rd but would take a nice haul from 7-11.

Ideally, I’d like to get a third round pick. Not that a third round pick would even come close to matching the production of Hill. But if a team calls and offers up a 12 pack of Mountain Dew and 3 bags of Flaming Hot Cheetos, I am not necessarily saying no.

SuperG! makes a good point, but this is also why X is not on the team now, even though he would sign for peanuts, and why no one else has taken a chance on a guy who was previously very productive.

I know that eventually, some other Phins player will be in the news for something foolish, but that will most likely be followed by some statement from the team, a public apology from the player, and that’s the end. Most of those players somehow manage to do what Hill cannot and keep their name out of the news even a second time.

Ummm.... Xavien Howard? How many off the field incidents did he have? How many chances did he get with the Dolphins?

glen55 I for one did not make any conclusion. I am aware that no law was reportedly broken. This does not take away that this is yet another negative story either way.

I have seen 2 articles on here about this incident, and in both of them the authors seem to be jumping to conclusions, and in neither of them do the authors report any facts to justify those conclusions. Maybe I’m just behind the curve here but I don’t see anything to make this any more impactful than Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch. Why should I care if Tyreek Hill threw a laptop on the floor or took his baby and walked on the balcony or his mother-in-law got scared and called the cops?

JLG2435 doesn't see the point with the headaches that he brings.

Honestly he’s become so annoying I wouldn’t care if they just cut him at this point lol. I know, that would be stupid, but it’s not like he does much of anything if Tua isn’t playing anyway. He’s good for about 3 catches for 37 yards if Tua or Mahomes isn’t throwing to him.

twinssdfan thinks that his absence from the roster would create a hole, forcing McDaniel to change up his offense, which has centered around Hill and Tua.

Ok, Hill’s latest drama has casused a Stir for the Right Reasons. I’m sure a trade could be worked out Grier did that in 2019 to shed salary cap. My question is Hill’s salary is one thing but his Speed is another it would create a void a draft pick or two for Hill would be nice but the question still remains. Coach MM would have to change a bit, moving A-Chain to WR would create another hole yes draft is deep with backs. I’m sure all possiblities are being looked at.

StanleyDoyle1 is just waiting for his usual apologies.

It should be about a week before Hill cycles through his bag of non-apologies and (1) tacitly suggests that his wife is to blame, (2) offers to lend his expertise to local battered-women’s shelters (like he did seven months ago when offering to teach civil rights to the Miami police department), and (3) says that THIS YEAR will be his BEST EVER.

sdphinsfan believes that with the loss of leadership on the roster, things might only get worse.

Seriously...trade him to a contender for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I can only imagine the drama every week without TA and Calais in the locker room. He’ll be quitting once a month at least.

We need to drop the morality component of this. He is exactly what he thought he was when we signed him. The FO knew it, and was willing to pay him to be all that he is. And he’s done what they wanted. He’s sold jerseys and brought attention (good and bad because to them, all attention is good). But it’s time to move on. Every circus has a clown show, and at some point, every circus moves on to the next town.

SlayerNation1 doesn’t believe that Hill will make a big enough difference in the end to move the needle and correctly states that Grier needs to go either way.

Most likely, hold your nose and Tyreek will add to the fetid odor of the 2025 season, which will go down in terminal descent. I would also be perfectly fine with launching Tyreek at any point. However, that move is more suggestive of Grier returning, which is unacceptable. As a side note, I don’t understand posters trying to question other fans’ taking a 180° stance on Hill. Yes, no matter what His skill is, We all have a morality tipping point. Need I remind that Hill is the recidivist, not the fan base? Stop shaking your finger at people who are done with this clown and previously thought He was great. Truth be told, it is healthy and encouraging that people have a limit. From a football perspective, even with Hill, the ceiling is 8-9 wins, no playoff wins. Basically, He is their best player and still not a material difference maker. Do You prefer 8-9 wins with no playoff wins or 6-7 wins without Hill, also with no playoff wins?

jmworacle asks if the team did any vetting on Hill. I have to believe that each and every one of them was well aware of the kind of person that Hill was before pulling the trigger.

Did the “Blunder Kind” Chris Grier do any vetting before pulling the trigger on trading for the man?

The consensus, if there is one, is that most fans either want him gone or don’t care at this point, either way. I think that many of us are looking at 2025 as a year that won't go well, given some of the losses and, of course, the recent Ramsey news. I hope that's wrong, and McDaniel somehow makes some magic happen, but I believe that by this time next year, things will look much different in the Dolphins' front office.

As always, thank you to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day. Please join us tomorrow evening for our Phinsider Victory of the Week post.

Your Best All-Time Miami Dolphins Defensive Starting 11!

NFL: Archive

Photo by Bob Falcetti/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

A week ago this evening, I posted the response post for the Miami Dolphins' all-time Offense. This week, we take a look at the defense. I originally posted the following exercise in this post:

Please give us your best 11-man all-time starting offensive roster and your top three all-time special teamers at kicker, punter, and long snapper. If you prefer a player that, for some reason (like old age where you can’t remember like you once did) did not make the list above, certainly use that player and tell us why you believe he belongs.

Below are some of your all-time defensive rosters and thoughts-

mikestarace has some of the usual suspects.

Jason Taylor; Bob Baumhower; Cameron Wake; Tim Bowens; Zach Thomas; Nick Buoniconti; A.J. Duhe; Sam Madison; Patrick Surtain; Jake Scott; Dick Anderson; K: Jason Sanders; P: Reggie Roby

sdphinsfan found the exercise tough but still fielded a solid roster.

Tough one...here goes...(assuming we’re a 3-4 D with this)

DL: Bowens, DenHerder, Jeff Cross

LB: ZT, Duhe, Taylor, Wake

CB: Surtain, Madison (Vincent, McNeal for depth/nickel)

S: Jake Scott, Dick Anderson (Blackwood for depth)

P: Roby

PK: Stoyanovich

LS: Denney

krammm sees Offerdal as an underappreciated former LB for the Phins.

I think John Offerdahl is one of the best ever. Underappreciated because he wasn’t on a very good defense.

I was at a Dolphins/Buccaneers charity basketball game and AJ Duhe (6’3” 245 lbs) could dunk a basketball any way you wanted.

Spok507 chimes in with a scary defense!

DL: Jason Taylor, Can Wake, Tim Bowens

LB: Brian Cox, Zach Thomas, Nick Buonoconti

CB: Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain

S: Louis Oliver, Jarvis Williams

K: Olindo Mare

LS: John Denny

P: Reggie Roby

herbert pollack points out that the now Steeler is a better choice than Holland, even given his short tenure with the Phins.

Minkah should be on the list not Holland

Madison/Surtain

Taylor, Bowens, Wake, Baum (Wilkins)

Zach, Cox, Duhe

really not much to choose from

Francesco ITA is not a fan of Marion!

from 1983

Defensive Linemen

Jason Taylor, Tim Bowens, Bob Baumhower, Cameron Wake

Linebackers

Zach Thomas, John Offerdahl, Bryan Cox

Cornerbacks

Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain

Safeties

Reshad Jones, Minkah Fitzpatrick (not a fan of Brock Marion)

Special Teams

kicker Jason Sanders, punter Reggie Roby and long snapper John Denney

Thomas23059 points out a couple of overlooked guys!

I would add a couple guys that were not on the field nearly enough, but were there long enough to give me some good memories:

John Offerdahl and Louis Oliver

And if Christian Wilkins is on the list, Zach Sieler should be as well.

As for a starting 11:

D-Line - Taylor, Bowens, and Wake

LB - Thomas, Buoniconti, Duhe, and Cox

CB - Madison and Howard (Surtain as the nickel)

S - Scott and Anderson

K - Sanders

P - I’ll take Roby and his watch...

KR - Wes Welker - He may not have been the best at it, but did anyone remember that he had both the most punt returns (127, tied with OJ McDuffie and Jake Scott) and kick returns (166) in Dolphins history? I sure didn’t.

LS - Ed Perry

For anyone who has forgotten Ed Perry, he went to Highland Springs High School in Richmond, Virginia (I used to live down the street from the school) and then played for James Madison University in the Shenandoah Valley. He was drafted by the Dolphins in 1997 as a TE and LS, eventually just snapping. He finished his career with KC in 2005, at which point, according to Wikipedia anyway, he was the last active NFL player to have caught a TD from Dan Marino.

JustACog reminds me of some of our past dominant defenses.

DE Taylor and Wake

DT Wilkens and Manny Fernandez

LB Tomas, Buonicotti, Matheson

CB Ramsey, X

S Scott, Anderson but Rashad Jones could be better than both, but I’m old school

K Sanders

P Roby

LS Denney

Czonkaholic has a solid point, it’s hard to select an all-time when teams run different systems under different coaches.

Since the fish have run a 4/3 and a 3/4 it’s not in my opinion as easy as taking the best 11

Jason Taylor won DPOY playing outside linebacker in a 3/4 I’m gonna cheat and pick 12 I’m gonna do

4 d- line and 4- lb’s I’m also gonna take players who were here as rookies or long term careers so no Junior Seau

D-line Jason Taylor,Tim Bowens, Bob Baumhower, Manny Fernandez

LB’s AJ Duhe John Offerdahl Zach Thomas Brian Cox ( sorry Nick B. )

Not including Nick B is preposterous

Safety Dick Anderson Jake Scott

Corner Patrick Surtain X- man

PA phinphan found this more challenging than the offense, which is fair, as the team has fielded a great defense several times in the past.

This one is a lot harder than the offense. I’ll start with the easiest, special teams.

Kicker - Garo Yepremian

Punter - Reggie Roby

LS - John Denney

DL - Jason Taylor, Bob Baumhower, Manny Fernandez, Cameron Wake (the most difficult to choose: leaving players like Doug Betters, Trace Armstrong, Vern Den Herder, Kim Bokamper, Zach Sieler, Christian Wilkins, etc... was tough)

LB - AJ Duhe, John Offerdahl, Zach Thomas, Bryan Cox

CB - Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison

S - Glenn Blackwood and Jake Scott (another tough one having leave off Anderson, Oliver, and Minkah)

Well, that's our random top ten lists this evening. There was a strong consensus across nearly every roster, with some positions clearly more challenging to pick than others.

With the holiday, the site will be somewhat slow this evening and tomorrow. However, be sure to join us next week when things are sure to get crazy around here with the draft at the end of the week.

As always, thank you to each of you who not only join us every night for our live QOTD or answers posts, but also take the time to answer our questions of the day. For those of you who are regulars and almost always answer our questions, it does not go unnoticed.

Your underrated Miami Dolphins players!

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

In one of my PQOTD posts last week, I cited the story by Bet Ohio, where they pointed out that De’Von Achane was the 5th most undervalued running back in the NFL. With that story in mind, I asked the following question:

With the idea of Achane being one of the NFL’s top bargains, what other Miami Dolphins players do you see as bargains, and which do you see as overpaid, given their production over the last season or the last couple of seasons?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-

MIAMI235 on the overrated side of things, cites a high draft pick who has yet to live up to his draft status.

For overrated is Tindall every going to play LB?

Luvs2drnk2.0 makes a good point about rookie deals, but also has a solid list of bargains and one overpaid player.

There should kind of be a caveat with this. I don’t think players still on their rookie contracts should count. Of course if a rookie is playing well they will be undervalued, such as Achane. They haven’t been in the league long enough to get a contract based on how they’ve played. Now based solely on players who aren’t on rookie contracts...

Bargains: Sieler, Smith, Kohou, Brooks, and Dodson (last two assuming they build off last year)

Overpaid: Chubb

SlayerNation1, in response to Luvs2drnk2.0, makes a solid point. Top NFL teams use those lower rookie deals to keep their teams competitive in a league with a hard salary cap. It’s something that our own Dolphins don't always seem to understand. It would also help if they could figure out how to keep the players they develop, instead of giving all the money and draft picks away for someone else's player.

Rookies or players otherwise on Rookie contracts contributing is what the better teams do well. It allows them to double-dip - low salary plus production in a capped league.

I forgot about Chubb, because He is so forgettable.

Yes, He is grossly overvalued/overpaid, add overrated for the hat trick.

Dolfanjoe highlights the value of possibly turning an undrafted guy into a starter or at least an excellent backup.

Depending how the draft goes, an undrafted corner named Storm Duck may turn out to be that much needed but underrated player ! And good evening Coach

sdphinsfan chose the previously much maligned Austin Jackson.

I’m going to nominate my man Action Jackson. Two years ago, we all just wanted him gone. And now, when he doesn’t suit up, we can’t run our wide zone scheme to the right side.

Alley Gator sees a Malik breakout when Hill is gone and has a couple of overvalued high draft picks that have yet to show enough to deserve the spot in which they were selected.

Undervalued...Malik Washington. Because if everyone gets their wish and Tyreek is traded/cut, he’ll be starting in Hill’s place.

Overvalued...Patrick Paul. He was a reach when we drafted him in the lower part of the second round, and showed nothing as a rookie to make us think he’s ready. Second place goes to Cam Smith, also drafted in the second round. Why? I dunno.

SlayerNation1 points out that Achanes seemed to fall off a bit in year two, but I would argue in his defense that no one seemed able to run behind that line last season. Also has a solid list of other over and undervalued players.

Undervalued: Achane, willing to be a workhorse despite it being a bad idea. Unsurprisingly, His Rookie year burst seemed to fade in Year 2.

Chop, Malik should be on the list in a year, but need to see more. They are a good value now.

Sieler, probably still undervalued.

Overvalued: all the big contract players on Offense are overpaid for sure and overvalued. They only show value in the most perfect environment (weather, weak opponents, no pressure, regionally televised games)

McDaniel: overpaid/overvalued - nobody does less with more, Offense was mostly solved by quality teams in December of His first season. The only HC (and GM) I have ever witnessed hold a press conference to tell the world He has little control over His subordinates. He can get You 8-10 wins provided there are enough weak opponents on the schedule. His signature win in three years is a Defensive battle in early November @LAR.

We had some solid points made. Right now, all I can hope for going forward is that Grier and McDaniel get this draft right and build a better roster than I feel they have at present. I guess let's all hope and pray that Grier does not leave us disappointed after the draft this year.

Thank you, as usual, for reading our posts and answering the question of the day. Be sure to check in regularly this week, as the draft is approaching and the news surrounding the Phins and every other NFL team should intensify as the week progresses toward the NFL draft starting on Thursday evening.

PFF seven-round mock draft includes Dolphins trades, quarterback pick

New England Patriots v Miami Dolphins

What will the Miami Dolphins do in this week’s 2025 NFL Draft? Pro Football Focus projects all seven rounds.

Pro Football Focus released a 2025 NFL mock draft on Monday, projecting all seven rounds in this week’s NFL Draft. They brought together 32 of their analysts, each acting as one of the teams in the league, to make every pick and consider every trade proposal made. For the Miami Dolphins, Ryan Smith handled the front office moves.

And he was busy. He made a couple of trades, sending away a start player while moving up in the third round to acquire a quarterback. . He also started the projection with a surprise pick for the Dolphins. Could Miami go pure best player available in the first round, rather than trying to fill a roster need?

Here is a look at all of the picks made by Smith for the Dolphins, along with some analysis on his picks (posted in italics). What do you think of his selections? Check them out below and head to the comments to let us know your thoughts.

First Round (Pick 13)

Ashton Jeanty, running back, Boise State

Miami goes “best player available” and lands a top-five prospect. The team has more pressing needs, but it’s hard to argue against drafting one of the top running back prospects of the past decade. Jeanty broke an incredible 325 tackles in three years at Boise State. He will fuel a culture change and allow De’Von Achane to work more as a receiver.

For a Dolphins team with so many roster needs, this feels like a luxury pick but one they may have to make if the draft falls like this. Other options here could have been Texas tackle Kelvin Banks, Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, or Georgia safety Malaki Starks, but if the Dolphins were to stumble into Jeanty, they may have to go BPA with the selection. As Smith said, adding Jeanty to the backfield could allow the team to move Achane out as a receiver, allowing the team to create mismatches with multiple looks and alignments.

Second Round (Pick 48)

Donovan Jackson, tackle, Ohio State

Donovan Jackson finished 2024 at left tackle but would slot in as a Day 1 starter at left guard for the Dolphins. He’s a natural fit for Mike McDaniel’s outside-zone scheme and offers valuable versatility — with the ability to step in at tackle if second-year starter Patrick Paul falters. Over the past three seasons, Jackson allowed one or fewer pressures in a game 29 times.

After using the first pick on a luxury, Smith comes back to start working on the Dolphins’ needs. Adding a guard who could move outside to tackle if needed is a great move here for Miami. He was recruited as the top high school guard in the country coming into Ohio State and he primarily played guard throughout his college career. He moved out to left tackle this past season as an injury replacement and he was fine, but he is a guard who would immediately secure the interior of the line.

Round 3 (Pick 71 - via multiple trades)

Trades:

Jaxson Dart, quarterback, Ole Miss

The Dolphins land Dart – a potential franchise QB who could go early in the draft – here in the third round. He led all of FBS in deep passing yards (1,517) and was tied for sixth in big-time throw percentage (7.1%) last season at Ole Miss.

First, I would hope the Dolphins could get more out of a trade of wide receiver Tyreek Hill than just the 79th overall pick, but we will see if a deal does happen.

Second, for the team to trade away Hill, then use that pick and another to move up to grab a quarterback must mean they really like Dart in this scenario. The move would appear to give the team a developmental quarterback for behind Tua Tagovailoa, with the potential to push for the starting role in a couple of years.
Dart was compared to Gardner Minshew by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, who also says there are similarities between Dart and Brock Purdy, with Dart needing a ball-control passing attack that he can manage - which might be exactly why the Dolphins made this move in this projection. I do think Miami is in the market for a quarterback this year, but I do not know if all of the wheeling and dealing needed to land Dart here is the best use of assets for the Dolphins.

Round 3 (Pick 98 - Compensatory)

Joshua Farmer, defensive tackle, Florida State

Farmer adds some much-needed interior defensive line depth for a team that doesn’t have much behind Zach Sieler following Calais Campbell‘s departure. He was a productive player at Florida State, generating 46 pressures and 13 sacks over the past two seasons.

Miami’s biggest needs coming into this draft are offensive line, defensive tackle, cornerback, and safety. With this pick (and the earlier Jackson selection), Smith starts a run on filling those needs. Farmer is not a nose tackle, but he should be able to rotate into the lineup to play as a 3-4 defensive end, exactly where the Dolphins have a need. Not sure he can be counted on to be a starter right away, but Miami needs depth.

Round 4 (Pick 116)

Billy Bowman, Jr., safety, Oklahoma

Bowman is an interesting prospect. He has experience as a safety, cornerback, and even linebacker, despite being an undersized prospect. He has received comparisons to Tyrann Mathieu, and he is a ball-hawk when given the chance to roam. He can absolutely fly all over the field. The last time the Dolphins drafted a safety who they could move all over the field, it was Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is three inches taller and 15 pounds heavier. This might be a move Miami needs to make to shore up the back end of the defense - especially with the likelihood cornerback (and potential future safety) Jalen Ramsey is traded.

Round 4 (Pick 135)

Quincy Riley, cornerback, Louisville

Waiting this long into the draft to select a cornerback means Miami is likely not landing a day-one starter at this position, despite likely needing two day-one starters. Riley is likely a rotational player early in his career and will probably need deliberate coaching to become anything more than that. He will turn 24 before training camp, making him already an older prospect. He has good speed when making a break on a ball, but he can get beat by faster wide receivers, and he is not quick to recover. This is not a bad pick for the Dolphins for a depth cornerback, but they would have to add someone in free agency or hope Kader Kohou, Ashtyn Davis, Storm Duck, and Cam Smith are ready to step up into major roles (and/or they can reconcile with Jalen Ramsey) for their Week 1 starter role.

Round 5 (Pick 155 - from Denver Broncos)

Mitchell Evans, tight end, Notre Dame

Assuming Jonnu Smith continues as the starting tight end, providing the Dolphins with a pass catching option at the position, Evans could slot in as the second option in the position group, providing a solid all-around tight end who can block or serve as a possession/emergency option on routes. If Miami were to select a tight end here, it probably would be a bad sign for Julian Hill’s roster spot while free agent addition Pharaoh Brown can be the team’s primary blocking tight end. This would be a solid pick up for Miami.

Round 7 (Pick 224 - from Chicago Bears)

Cam Horsley, defensive tackle, Boston College

The Dolphins need depth on the defensive line, and that is what the addition of Horsley would bring them. Ideally, Miami would look for a nose tackle, but Horsley is probably more of a 3-4 defensive end or 4-3 defensive tackle than a true nose option. He is a depth option that could improve with coaching.

Round 7 (Pick 231)

Traeshon Holden, wide receiver, Oregon

A bigger target for Miami’s offense is always a good thing, and Holden would bring that. He is not a burner, but the Dolphins have plenty of those. Holden makes his money by being a zone-beater, which could be the perfect hit for Miami, with Waddle taking the top off the defense and Smith working underneath, leaving mid-level space for a bigger bodied receiver. He also would give the Dolphins a big target in the red zone.

Round 7 (Pick 253 - Compensatory)

Ethan Downs, edge, Oklahoma

Strong. Downs recorded the second-most repetitions on the bench press at the scouting combine this year, missing the top spot of 33 by one rep. He is probably destined to be a rotational pass rusher as an outside linebacker, making him a great fit for the Dolphins’ defensive scheme and needs. He uses his reaction time to gain an advantage in his rush, but needs to continue to develop additional moves to greater success.

As we barrel towards the draft, there are already some big offseason questions that need to be answered before a single player is selected this coming Thursday. Does the team want to trade Tyreek Hill, or does he want to be traded? Both sides say no, but the rumors persist. Where there are enough rumors in the NFL, there is usually some level of truth. Then there is the Jalen Ramsey who, for some unknown reason, decided along with the Dolphins front office for both sides to “explore” a trade. While that sounds like an issue that is still possibly up in the air, and no one knows what the problem was that brought those two sides to that conclusion, it seems as if Ramsey, as a Miami Dolphins player, has come to an end. With all of that going on, I asked the question:

What is your take on what is going on with the team right now? Do you believe there are deeper issues we have not been told about? If so, is the issue with the coaching staff, the front office, or both, or are these two players just divas, and we are better off without them on the roster?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the question of the day-

David. PBC has an entire rebuild plan!

I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Get rid of Ramsey and Hill before the start of the season. Next, we trade Tua at the deadline. Give Wilson the reigns and hopefully he improves to be serviceable. Just not so fast to jeopardize a top 5 draft pick for ‘26.

This year, we build the trenches, get 1 Cb for the future and look for a WR. Next year we get our QB and finish filling in the last few pieces.

VolFaninFla is all about getting right to the point.

Stupid owner. Terrible GM.

Dolphster sees this thing as a total disaster.

My fear is that what is happening is the perfect storm. A front office that has not shown that it is very good at strategic thinking and team building, a coach that the players like but don’t respect and therefore aren’t disciplined, and a few diva players who not only disrupt, but also possible poison other players. The team seems to have tried quite a few different approaches in the last 20 years, without much to show for it.

Yarganaught doesn't believe this changes much.

One less diva on the team. Meh, I don’t really see this as changing the plan very much. Instead of going with a CB 1st, and perhaps doubling up on DT later, they now have to go with a CB 1st, and perhaps another CB in the early/mid rounds. This was always going to be a Defense-heavy draft for Miami.

sdphinsfan sees the issues as stemming from a lack of leadership from the top down.

Grier doesn’t project leadership from the front office, MM doesn’t project leadership from the HC position, and we lost our two most prominent leaders in the locker room.

This type of move is what happens when there is no “culture” that defines the organization. That said, I’m ok with it. When you bring in big name guys and pay them big time money and you don’t get big time performance, you should show them the door as soon as you can. Ramsey was “Ramsey” in only one game that I recall as a Dolphin. Simply not good enough.

A competent GM could work his way out of this in the next two drafts. My biggest concern is that we don’t have that. Willing to be proven wrong, but I’m not holding my breath.

Alley Gator just wants a who are you pounding the table for post.

What’s happening? It’s a week until the draft and someone here needs to start a ‘who are you pounding the table for?’ story.

I’m hoping for a trade down to add another 2nd round pick because I really don’t see a lot of difference between what will be available at #13 vs. the upper part of round 2. Or even trade #13 for a high second and 3rd. (that would give us 2 picks in round 2, 3, 4 and 5.)

But I’m pounding the table for Donovan Jackson, OG/OT from Ohio State. He’s not a road grader, he’s a movement guy that fits our outside zone offense. He’s a guard, which we need to keep our eyes from being horrified seeing Eich start at guard again. But last year when Ohio State LT Simmons got hurt, Jackson moved to LT and played well, all the way to the National Championship which they won. So he’s got versatility as well. I’ve seen him mocked toward the bottom of round 1 down to our 2nd round pick at #48.

Luvs2drnk2.0 does not believe a rebuild is happening for a couple of reasons.

For everyone claiming we are in a rebuild, let me clarify what that would mean if it was true. That would mean that BOTH Grier and McD would have a guarantee from Ross that both their jobs are safe for at LEAST 2 more years. Now ask yourself honestly, after what has happened from 2022-2024, do you really believe Ross is willing to let them START a rebuild 4 years into the Grier/McD regime?

Nothing that has happened so far is ANY indication that a rebuild has started. They are operating almost EXACTLY as they operated last year. The only difference IMO is they are operating this year under stricter restraints form Ross so as to not make Miami a less desirable location should changes need to be made next year. It would make it VERY difficult to find a good GM/HC if you had no draft capital AND no cap space for 2+ years to start a rebuild. Whereas how they are currently operating would set up a new regime in 2026 and beyond with the cap room and draft capital to conduct a proper rebuild should things go badly this year.

FireGrier basically said that they just have not figured it out. I have serious doubts they ever will.

There is no template in place on how to build a winning organization. That is what is going on.

Bill Moody doesn’t think that they even know...

I believe they are conflicted... They don’t know themselves if they are in rebuild mode or win now mode, so their decisions are erratic.

Chucky2022 sees this whole thing being turned on its head this season.

I will say it again for anyone who will listen: this is a throw away year! This team will be worse than last year and a few draft picks are not going to change that. Grier will be the first to be fired mid-season. McDaniels will follow him, as the new GM will want to bring in is own coach. The new coach and GM will trade Tua and draft a new QB. Tus will end up with whatever team hires McDaniels as their OC. Grier and McDaniels are only trying to win a playoff game and you all better hope that does not happen or we will be stuck with both for another 5 years. Change should have been made 2 years ago.

That’s our random ten comments for this evening. The consensus is that there is no consensus. Let's all hope that they manage to not screw up the draft later this week. If you missed the original post and you wish to share your take on what's happening, please share in the comments section. Thank you, as always, to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day.

Nogle’s 2.0 Miami Dolphins 2025 seven-round mock draft

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

Taking a look at what could happen in the 2025 NFL Draft for the Miami Dolphins.

The start of the 2025 NFL Draft is just two days away. What will the Miami Dolphins do when they come up on the clock? Today, I bring you my second iteration of a 2025 NFL Mock Draft, breaking down what might happen over this weekend as the Dolphins look to bolster their roster.

Miami has several holes on their roster that have to be filled. I went into this mock not necessarily looking to draft only based on need, but making sure that I considered it as I went through the process. As I did last time, I used Pro Football and Sports Network’s mock draft simulator to assist in the projection. My thoughts there are, it at least makes it seem more like a draft, where a player I might be targeting comes off the board before I have a chance to select him. It works better than me just magically landing every college prospect I want.

With that all said, it is time to start making picks...and I open with a trade.

Round 1 - Pick 13

Trade

In this scenario, the Detroit Lions seemed desperate to make a trade up the board, moving from 28 to 13. Who am I to argue when they are giving me a ton of extra picks to make this leap?

Trade details:
Lions receive:

Dolphins receive:

  • Pick 28
  • Pick 60
  • Pick 102
  • Pick 244
  • 2026 2nd round pick

I feel like that was a must take scenario. Hopefully something like that materializes for Miami on Thursday night.

Round 1 - Pick 28

Malaki Starks, safety, Georgia

91st Allstate Sugar Bowl - Notre Dame v Georgia

After all the early projections had Miami selecting Starks with the 13th pick, I still land him despite the trade back 15 spots. There were probably some players I would have liked to see fall into this position (South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori went 27th and I would have loved that), but Miami immediately adds a starter at a position of need while picking up three additional picks this year.

Round 2 - Pick 48

Mason Taylor, tight end, LSU

Vanderbilt v LSU
Photo by Gus Stark/LSU/University Images via Getty Images

Okay, I admit, this is a luxury pick and the Taylor name made me jump at this possibility. You cannot tell me he would not be an asset on this roster, though. The additional picks make me comfortable with this move here, and I have a player who will at least challenge Jonnu Smith for the starting role and should see plenty of snaps and receptions whether he is listed at one or two on the depth chart (and 99 on the roster?).

This did ultimately override a chance I had to select Oronde Gadsden II later in the draft, though.

Round 2 - Pick 60

Marcus Mbow, tackle, Purdue

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 18 Oregon at Purdue
Photo by Zach Bolinger/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

He is listed as a tackle, but Mbow is going to play guard and would immediately move into the starting lineup for the Dolphins. Miami needs to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and Mbow will have no problem working inside to make that happen. He is also a mobile lineman, who can be the downfield blocked on pulls to clear the space for running back De’Von Achane. If Mbow is sitting on the board here - and I know this was an additional pick in the mock trade - I am turning in the card as soon as I am put on the clock.

Round 3 - Pick 98

Dorian Strong, cornerback, Virginia Tech

Boston College v Virginia Tech

The Dolphins probably need to be on the hunt for two starting cornerbacks this year, with rumors the team is looking to trade Jalen Ramsey. Even if they were to keep Ramsey, someone to challenge Kader Kohou, Storm Duck, and Cam Smith for the top spot is an absolute need. Strong needs to be more consistent if he is going to be relied upon as a starter, but he has the potential and it will be up to the coaching staff to get it out of him.

Round 3 - Pick 102

Denzel Burke, cornerback, Ohio State

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: JAN 10 CFP Semifinal Cotton Bowl Classic - Texas v Ohio State
Photo by Matthew Visinsky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

I said the Dolphins probably need to be hunting for two starting cornerbacks this year. I go back-to-back third-round picks to make that happen in this mock. He is a little shorter than Strong, but he is a converted wide receiver who attacks the ball like it was being thrown to him. Injuries slowed his development in college, so it will again be up to the coaching staff to get the most out of him, but the raw skills are there and he could quickly become a steal from the third round.

Round 4 - Pick 116

Deone Walker, defensive tackle, Kentucky

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 29 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl - Clemson vs Kentucky
Photo by Joe Robbins/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

I have been big on Miami adding defensive tackles early in the draft this year, looking to add someone around Zach Sieler as a replacement for Christian Wilkins/Calais Campbell from the last two years. In this mock, I did not attack the position like I have before, but this seemed like a great spot to make up for that. He is not going to be a nose tackle, but he definitely has the potential to become a strong 3-4 defensive end.

Round 4 - Pick 135

Chase Lundt, tackle, UConn

Connecticut v Tennessee

Time to head back to the offensive line well and add some depth. Dolphins fans might not like the comparison Lance Zierlein at NFL.com has for Lundt where he compares him to Liam Eichenberg, but part of that is Lundt has the versatility to play anywhere, similar to Eichenberg. Where the Dolphins may have stunted Eichenberg’s growth was with the constant moving of him around. Hopefully they have learned from that and decide early on to make Lundt either a tackle or a guard, and just leave him there to develop.

Round 5 - Pick 150

RJ Harvey, running back, UCF

UCF v Arizona State

The extra picks make me comfortable with taking a flyer on Harvey here. He is not a dominant runner and could use work in pass catching and pass protection, but there is something about him that just seems to work no matter how he gets the ball. He has had production at the college level and he could prove to be a solid depth running back. At worst, the Dolphins are getting a player who should be a stud special teams player.

Round 5 - Pick 155

Dillon Gabriel, quarterback, Oregon

Rose Bowl Game Presented by Prudential - Ohio State V Oregon
Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images

Going back to the Knights well, even if Gabriel also went to Oklahoma and Oregon before landing in the NFL, was not on the agenda, but it might work here. The Dolphins add a depth quarterback who could be a good scheme fit if needed to fill in this year. Using a fifth-round pick on a quarterback who has plenty of college experience in multiple systems and could develop nicely in head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense would be a solid use of this selection.

Round 7 - Pick 224

Carson Vinson, tackle, Alabama A&M

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl
Vasha Hunt-Imagn Images

The seventh round is a great place to find developmental players with the potential to one day start. We find that here with a selection of Vinson from Alabam A&M. He is going to need time to adjust to the strength and speed of the NFL game, but he has raw potential that will need coaching.

Round 7 - Pick 231

Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, defensive tackle, Georgia

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: JAN 02 CFP Quarterfinal Allstate Sugar Bowl - Notre Dame vs Georgia
Photo by John Korduner/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Keep going with the developmental players at the backend of the draft. I feel like Ingram-Dawkins will be off the board by here, but if he is not, he is worth the chance. He was limited to just a single year as a primary starter at Georgia, but he flashed the potential that could turn him into a stud 3-4 defensive end in the NFL. There is a lot of development that has to happen, but stashing him away on the back end of the roster for a year or two as he learns is not going to hurt the team.

Round 7 - Pick 244

Wilie Lampkin, guard, North Carolina

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 02 Duke’s Mayo Classic - North Carolina vs South Carolina
Photo by John Byrum/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Another developmental project, Lampkin might end up being a practice squad player early in his career, but there is something there that can be developed. He is smaller than an offensive lineman prototype - by a lot - but he is a determined player and there is probably a role for him somewhere.

Round 7 - Pick 253

Rayuan Lane III, safety, Navy

UAB v Navy

The final pick for the Dolphins in this mock is taking a flyer on a Navy prospect who could prove to be a special teams ace for the team. He is a good ball hawk and he could prove to be a solid rotational safety, but getting him on the field as a special teams player early in his career would seem the best use of his talent.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: This Is Really An NFL Draft Prediction Post Edition

SPORTS-FBN-DOLPHINS-KELLY-MI

Al Diaz/Miami Herald/Tribune News Service via Getty Images

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel head into the 2025 NFL Draft this Thursday with a host of needs. In addition to the team's needs, both men may be selecting players to save their jobs, meaning they need to pick players who can not only play from day one but also contribute in a way that makes the team better than it was last season. The consensus top needs for the Dolphins heading into the draft are offensive guard, cornerback, defensive tackle, and safety. The cornerback position has now become a more pressing need than it already was with the likely departure of Jalen Ramsey. The team is also expected to take a look at wide receivers, quarterbacks, and running backs in this draft.

In general, the first and second rounds of the NFL draft are expected to result in starters. Some extend that to the third round, but generally, from the third to the seventh, players are more expected to be depth pieces. With the number of needs this roster currently has, the team will have to hit on their first two picks and probably at least one more in a later round to produce starters. This makes me nervous, knowing that Grier can often miss on his second-rounders. He has had some better success at times with some of his later picks. This is not the year that he can afford to miss on any of the high picks.

So this evening's question of the day is: What do you think the Dolphins will do with their early-round picks? What will be their top priority in the first round? Please give us your first through third or even fourth round picks predictions. Give us just positions or even players you think they may target in each round.

Miami Dolphins Draft Picks Rounds 1-4

  • Round 1 (No. 13 overall)
  • Round 2 (No. 48 overall)
  • Round 3 (No. 98 overall) - Compensatory pick for Robert Hunt
  • Round 4 (No. 116 overall)
  • Round 4 (No. 135 overall)

The Dolphins and Rams have discussed a Jalen Ramsey trade

Los Angeles Rams v Seattle Seahawks

Could Jalen Ramsey be headed back to the City of Angels?

The Miami Dolphins raised quite a few eyebrows last week when reports surfaced that the team and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey agreed to ‘explore trade options”. General Manager Chris Grier confirmed the rumors at his yearly pre-draft press conference shortly after. He even suggested that it was best for the short-term and long-term success of the Dolphins that the team move on from Ramsey.

“It’s never easy to replace a player like Jalen. He was a good player for us. He’s a good player, he’ll probably be a Hall of Famer, but for the Miami Dolphins going forward, we feel like this is the best chance to help us win not only just this year, but in the future as well.”

Grier mentioned that teams have called, and, in my opinion, even hinted at the potential for a draft-day trade. Sure, he was asked about the potential of a draft day trade happening, but the way it was worded and his eagerness to apparently move on from Ramsey has the hamster wheel in my head zooming!

I don’t know. Trades come together at all different times. You’ve seen from before the draft, day of the draft, during the draft. I think A.J. Brown was during the draft when it happened. So when it happens, it’ll happen and if it doesn’t, we’ll deal with it then.”

Like Grier said, teams have already called Miami, gauging what type of compensation the team may be looking for. Those teams usually remain a secret, unless, of course, the team looking to acquire the player brings it up during their pre-draft press conference. Then it’s fair game! And that’s exactly what happened yesterday, when Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay met with the media.

Here’s the juicy stuff, courtesy of the L.A Rams media team.

Snead: “I’ve had discussions with Miami so we discussed getting through the draft. I know there are a lot of nuances to that situation based on all the things that come with a trade, contracts, and things like that... I’m not sure where they’re at in the process...”

McVay: “He’s a great player. We know him very well. We know him intimately. You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that, but like Les articulated, our focus and concentration are on this week’s upcoming draft. There are a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude and some of the different things that accompany that, but you could never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud and a guy that do a lot of different things.”

Trading Jalen Ramsey before June 1st wouldn’t make much sense for Miami, as the team would be on the hook for $29.2 million, a 12.5M cap loss according to Spotrac. This is something McVay and Snead likely realized when discussing the different hurdles to getting a deal done. Additionally, no team wants to pigeonhole themselves in the draft, so if you’re a team acquiring Ramsey, I’m not sure it makes a ton of sense to push the issue. And for Miami, why not wait and see what teams are willing to offer in June, unless you feel like his value is as high as it will get, or really want to rid the locker room of the player, which at times, seemed to be the case.

We may never find out the real reason why Ramsey wants out, but when you see guys like Terron Armstead, Calais Campbell, and potentially Tyreek Hill on the way out, after coming to Miami to win a Super Bowl ring and change the #culture?! I can’t really say I blame him, or Grier and McDaniel, for taking a chance on a player of Ramsey’s caliber. After all, it only cost a third-round pick and a tight end named Hunter Long.

What are your thoughts on the Jalen Ramsey situation? Do you believe he will get traded on draft night? How do you feel about him potentially returning to Los Angeles? Let us know in the comments section below!

[11:45 p.m.] - That closes out the first round. The second round begins tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Browns hold the 33rd overall pick to start day two.

[11:43 p.m.] - Chiefs pick Josh Simmons, tackle, Ohio State.

[11:42 p.m.] -
The Chiefs’ pick is in, which will bring the first round to a close.

[11:34 p.m.] - Eagles pick Jihaad Campbell, linebacker, Alabama.

[11:33 p.m.] -
The Eagles’ pick is in. The Chiefs are back on the clock.

[11:30 p.m.] - The Eagles and Chiefs swapped the final two picks of the first round. The Eagles moved up to the 31st position, while the Chiefs moved back a pick and gained a fifth-round pick (164).

[11:29 p.m.] - Bills pick Maxwell Hairston, cornerback, Kentucky.

[11:25 p.m.] -
The Bills’ pick is in. The Chiefs are on the clock.

[11:24] - Commanders pick Josh Conerly, tackle, Oregon.

[11:22 p.m.] -
The NFL Network broadcast is obsessed with showing us Shedeur Sanders continuing to stand around and wait for his name to be called. They are already talking about watching him again tomorrow night. It feels like we are moving from a story to enjoying a young man in one of his lowest points just for the fun of it.

[11:21 p.m.] - The Commanders’ pick is in. The Bills are on the clock.

[11:16 p.m.] - Lions pick Tyleik Williams, defensive tackle, Ohio State

[11:13 p.m.] -
The Lions’ pick is in. The Commanders are on the clock.

[11:10 p.m.] - Ravens pick Malaki Starks, safety, Georgia

[11:07 p.m.] -
The Ravens’ pick is in. The Lions are on the clock.

[11:04 p.m.] - Falcons pick James Pearce, Jr., edge, Tennessee. The Falcons clearly were looking for defense tonight, and they backed that up with Walker and then the addition of Pearce. Multiple people on the NFL Network broadcast said the Falcons nearly made Pearce the pick at 15, so they have to be ecstatic to be able to make the move to add him here.

[11:02 p.m.] - TRADE - The Falcons sent a second-round pick (46th), a seventh-round pick (242nd), and a 2026 first-round pick to the Rams for the 26th pick and a third-round pick (101st).

[10:59 p.m.] - Giants pick Jaxson Dart, quarterback, Ole Miss. The Giants made their move for a quarterback, but they skipped Shedeur Sanders to grab Dart. The Falcons have now traded up as well, but they cannot be looking for another quarterback...right?

[10:56 p.m.] - The Giants moved up to the 25th position, giving the Texans a second-round pick (34th), a third-round pick (99th), and a 2026 third-round pick.

[10:52 p.m.] - TRADE. The second deal of the night has the New York Giants jumping back into the first round, taking the Houston Texans’ 25th spot. Is this a move for a quarterback, adding the fifth-year option to a contract?

[10:51 p.m.] - Vikings pick Donovan Jackson, guard, Ohio State

[10:44 p.m.] - Packers pick Matthew Golden, wide receiver, Texas.
This was the first time the Packers selected a wide receiver in the first round since 2002. What a time to break that streak when you are hosting the Draft and get the reaction of Golden walking out on the stage.

[10:35 p.m.] - Chargers pick Omarion Hampton, running back, North Carolina.

[10:33 p.m.] -
The Chargers’ pick is in. The Packers are on the clock. Los Angeles took the clock all the way to zero.

[10:23 p.m.] - Steelers pick Derrick Harmon, defensive tackle, Oregon. Shedeur Sanders continues to fall and he might not be selected in the first round. Could the Steelers feel sure they are going to sign Aaron Rodgers?

[10:22 p.m.] - Steelers pick is in. Chargers are on the clock.

[10:19 p.m.] - Broncos select Jahdae Barron, cornerback, Texas. Other than wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter with the second overall pick, this is the first cornerback to come off the board tonight. A lot of reaction on X about the Dolphins not selecting a cornerback, but it appears the position is falling this year.

[10:16 p.m.] - Buccaneers pick Emeka Egbuka, wide receiver, Ohio State. Fell behind again getting another post ready. The Broncos’ pick is in while the Steelers are on the clock. All eyes are on the Steelers and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at this point. Will he continue to fall?

[10:05 p.m.] - Seahawks pick Grey Zabel, tackle, North Dakota State.

[10:00 p.m.] - Bengals pick Shemar Stewart, edge, Texas A&M

[9:58 p.m.] -
The Bengals’ pick is in. The Seahawks are on the clock. Ian Rapoport thinks the Seahawks are looking to trade this pick, potentially trying to get a team to jump over the Steelers a few picks from now, who could be targeting a quarterback.

[9:56 p.m.] - Cardinals select Walter Nolen, defensive tackle, Ole Miss. Fell behind in updating these at the moment the pick was announced to write about the Dolphins’ selection of Grant. But, this is all caught up now.

[9:47 p.m.] - Falcons select Jalon Walker, linebacker, Georgia.

[9:38 p.m.] - Colts pick Tyler Warren, tight end, Penn State.

[9:35 p.m.] - Dolphins pick Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan.

[9:33 p.m.] -
The Colts’ pick is in. The Falcons are on the clock.

[9:31 p.m.] - The Dolphins’ pick is in. The Colts are on the clock.

[9:26 p.m.] - Cowboys pick Tyler Booker, guard, Alabama

[9:25 p.m.] -
The Cowboys’ pick is in. The Dolphins are on the clock.

[9:22 p.m.] - 49ers pick Mykel Williams, edge, Georgia.

[9:18 p.m.] -
The 49ers’ pick is in. The Cowboys are on the clock.

[9:14 p.m.] - Bears pick Colston Loveland, tight end, Michigan.

[9:12 p.m.] -
The NFL announced the schedule release will be May 14, 2025. Not sure why that was needed during the draft, but they did.

[9:10 p.m.] - The Bears’ pick is in. The 49ers are on the clock.

[9:08 p.m.] - Saints pick Kelvin Banks, Jr., tackle, Texas. Another offensive lineman off the board if the Dolphins are looking to target their protection in the first round. There are still options available, but this run on tackles could also lead to someone falling to Miami at another position they cannot afford to ignore.

[9:06 p.m.] - The Saints’ pick is in. The Bears are on the clock.

[9:03 p.m.] - Panthers pick Tetairoa McMillan, wide receiver, Arizona

[8:59 p.m.] -
Commercial, pick, commercial. Starting to drag out this first round and we are only on pick eight.

[8:58 p.m.] - The Panthers’ pick is in. The Saints are on the clock.

[8:56 p.m.] - Jets pick Armand Membou, tackle, Missouri

[8:51 p.m.] -
The Jets’ pick is in. The Panthers are on the clock.

[8:48 p.m.] - Raiders pick Ashton Jeanty, running back, Boise State

[8:44 p.m.] -
The Raiders’ pick is in. The Jets are on the clock.

[8:43 p.m.] - Browns pick Mason Graham, defensive tackle, Michigan. There was hope the Dolphins could land Graham as he fell, but there never was a realistic scenario where he would fall.

[8:38 p.m.] - Patriots pick Will Campbell, tackle, LSU

[8:37 p.m.] -
The Browns’ pick is in. The Raiders are on the clock.

[8:33 p.m.] - The Patriots’ pick is in. The Browns are back on the clock.

[8:29 p.m.] - Giants pick Abdul Carter, edge, Penn State.

[8:27 p.m.] -
The Giants’ pick is in. The Patriots are on the clock.

[8:22 p.m.] - Jaguars pick Travis Hunter, wide receiver/cornerback, Colorado

[8:20 p.m.] -
The Jaguars’ pick is in. The Giants are on the clock.

[8:17 p.m.] - The Jaguars received the 2nd, 104th, and 200th picks in the deal, with Cleveland receiving the 5th, 36th, 126th, and a 2026 first-round pick back.

[8:15 p.m.] - That did not take long. As soon as the Browns were on the clock, Ian Rapoport reported the Browns and Jaguars agreed to a trade, sending the second pick to the Jaguars and the fifth pick along with “a massive haul” going back to Cleveland.

[8:14 p.m.] - Titans pick Cam Ward, quarterback, Miami. The Cleveland Browns are on the clock.

[8:08 p.m.] - The NFL Draft has started and the Titans are officially on the clock.

[7:37 p.m.] - Ian Rapoport is reporting the Browns are looking to trade out of the second position, with the Jaguars potentially jumping up from five. After no trades leading into the draft, it appears we are starting see real potential for moves early and often tonight.

This is not a surprise report as the Dolphins need to add picks tonight if they can find anyway to do it.

Who is still on the board? NFL Draft 2025 Day 2 best players remaining

2025 NFL Draft - Round 1

Who is still on the board as the start of the second day of the 2025 NFL Draft approaches?

The 2025 NFL Draft completed its first round on Thursday, bringing the first 32 college prospects into the league as rookies. On Friday, the next two rounds will add another 70 first-year players into the league. Who is still on the board when tonight’s second round kicks off at 7 p.m. Eastern?

SB Nation’s Mark Schofield released his list of the best players remaining late last night, updating JP Acosta’s pre-Draft rankings for the picks made on Thursday. We take a look at the list and provide some thoughts on some of the players who could be targets for the Miami Dolphins tonight.

The rankings below are SB Nation’s Pre-Draft rank for each player.

9 - Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

The Dolphins have a need at cornerback - even if they do not trade Jalen Ramsey, though that relationship seems broken at this point - so Johnson has to be a consideration. Concerns about his knees have forced this slide, but if the Dolphins can make a move up the draft board without paying a ransom, or Johnson continues to fall, Miami might have to land Johnson.

17 - Donovan Ezeiruaku, EDGE, Boston College

18 - Mike Green, EDGE, Marshall

23 - Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri

25 - Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

How long will Sanders continue to slide? Originally believed to be in the debate for the top overall pick, Sanders might force teams to over bid if they want to force the Browns out of the top spot in the second round to acquire Sanders. Or Cleveland may just end the slide as soon as day two opens.

27 - Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State

28 - Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina

Two more cornerbacks for the Dolphins to consider. Corner seemed like the biggest faller among positions this year, and that could play perfectly into the Dolphins’ hands. Revel might be the better player early in his career, while Thomas might need a year to develop - though Revel is coming off a torn ACL that could be a concern. Thomas is probably more of a press corner while Revel is a zone option.

29 - Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa

32 - Marcus Mbow, OG, Purdue

I doubt Mbow is available for the Dolphins at 48, but it he is on the board, Miami needs to be running to turn in their draft card. A move up could be in the cards here as well.

38 - Carson Schwesinger, LB, UCLA

40 - Nic Scourton, EDGE, Texas A&M

41 - Trey Amos, CB, Ole Miss

He might be lower than some other corners on the rankings from SB Nation, but Amos would not be a bad option for the Dolphins to find a Week 1 starter at cornerback. Tall and a good press-coverage player, he works well in both man and zone coverages.

43 - Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo

44 -Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State

45 - Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee

46 - Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame

47 - Alfred Collins, DT, Texas

48 - Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota

49 - Charles Grant, OT, William and Mary

A former wrestler who uses that foundation in his blocking, Grant will need development time at the NFL level to reach his full potential. He is listed as a tackle, but he might need to move inside as a guard.

50 - Nick Emmanwori, S, South Carolina

This is a 100 percent run to the podium type of player for me. The Dolphins need secondary help, and while cornerback is the focal point, a safety like Emmanwori provides a lot of coverage options for the defense. This would be a steal for Miami.

51 - Jayden Higgins, WR, Iowa State

52 - Elic Ayomanor, WR, Stanford

53 - Landon Jackson, EDGE, Arkansas

54 - Treyveon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

55 - Tate Ratledge, OG, Georgia

This might not be a sprint to the podium type of pick, but a good solid jog up there would make sense. Ratledge may not be the best guard in the league during his career, but he is going to be a tough, solid player who is going to start for you for years and you will not hear his name - exactly what you want from an offensive lineman. He will immediately start and the Dolphins need an immediate starter at guard.

56 - Jamaree Caldwell, DT, Oregon

57 - Tre Harris, WR, Ole Miss

59 - Jonah Savaiinaea, OG, Arizona

He will probably need some coaching and development time to reach his full potential when compared to Ratledge, but Savaiinaea is a big man who will be able to set blocks in the middle of the line. He worked as a tackle in college, but will be a guard in the NFL.

60 - Gunnar Helm, TE, Texas

61 - Billy Bowman Jr., S, Oklahoma

62 - Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas

63 - DJ Giddens, RB, Kansas State

64 - Jack Bech, WR, TCU

65 - RJ Harvey, RB, UCF

66 - Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama

67 - Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State

68 - Ashton Gillotte, EDGE, Louisville

69 - Bradyn Swinson, EDGE, LSU

70 - Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State

71 - Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State

72 - Quinshon Judkins, RB, Ohio State

73 - JT Tuimoloau, EDGE, Ohio State

74 - Oluwafemi Oladejo, EDGE, UCLA

75 - Harold Fannin Jr, TE, Bowling Green

76 - Jalen Travis, OT, Iowa State

77 - Elijah Arroyo, TE, Miami

78 - Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame

79 - Mason Taylor, TE, LSU

80 - Danny Stutsman, LB, Oklahoma

81 - Princely Umanmielen, EDGE, Ole Miss

82 - TJ Sanders, DT, South Carolina

83 - Kyle Kennard, EDGE, South Carolina

84 - Tory Horton, WR, Colorado State

85 - Demetrius Knight Jr, LB, South Carolina

86 - Kain Medrano, LB, UCLA

87 - Kevin Winston Jr, S, Penn State

88 - Kyle Williams, WR, Washington State

89 - CJ West, DT, Indiana

90 - Quincy Riley, CB, Louisville

91 - Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville

92 - Devin Neal, RB, Kansas

93 - Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon

94 - Saivion Williams, WR, TCU

95 - Jonas Sanker, S, Virginia

97 - Damien Martinez, RB, Miami

98 - Ozzy Trapailo, OT, Boston College

99 - Josh Farmer, DT, Florida State

100 - Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland

Undrafted free agent tracking 2025: Who will sign with the Dolphins?

Miami Dolphins v Baltimore Ravens

The 2025 NFL Draft has come to an end, but the rookie madness has just started. Who will sign with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent?

The 2025 NFL Draft has ended, with 257 new rookies assigned to teams. Now, the madness begins as those who were not selected start signing as undrafted free agents with teams all across the league. The newest round of the free agency frenzy is upon us.

Any college player who was eligible for the draft, but was not selected by a team, is now free to sign with any club. Teams are making calls and trying to lock down players they like but did not draft.

The Miami Dolphins will likely be busy trying to sign UDFAs over the next several hours and days. We will keep up with all the latest news and rumors right here.

First, however, we need to put out our annual disclaimer. Nothing is official with UDFAs until the team announces the signing. Every year it seems as though there are reports of a signing, only to have another team swoop in with a better deal and sign the prospect. It has gone so far as a player boarding a plane for one destination, but signing with a different team during the trip. While we will probably know most of the UDFA signings, just remember everything can change in an instant when it comes to these moves..

Dez Bryant says Quinn Ewers is Dan Marino 2.0: “I like him over Tua already”

Clemson v Texas - Playoff First Round

I didn’t say it, he did!

I don’t know what’s going on.

I’m sitting here minding my own business, trying to make a cut-up for Miami Dolphins’ second-round pick Jonah Savaiineaa, and I get a text message about something former Dallas Cowboys STAR wide receiver Dez Bryant tweeted out. Now, the first thing I’m thinking is:

“Oh, no! He just threatened to fight former Dolphins’ general manager Jeff Ireland on PPV on the undercard of a Jake Paul fight!” But what I would come to read was even more insane and unexpected. My jaw nearly hit the floor!

I like Quinn Ewers over Tua already. He's Dan Marino 2.0 and yes..I said it.

— Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) April 26, 2025

What?!

Now, first let me start by saying, I like the selection. Ewers was one of the quarterbacks pre-draft that felt like he’d fit the system — and in the 7th-round?!? Sign. Me. Up. But not even the most optimistic fan would call him Marino 2.0, even if he does have a lightning-quick release modeled after the Dolphins legend.

“I’ve definitely watched him play, and yeah, my dad would always tell me growing up that I need to have a quick release like Dan Marino,” Ewers said. He continued: “So I grew up hearing my dad talk about him all the time. Definitely watched him play, and his release is very quick as well.”

Ewers, 22, was the highest-rated high school player in the country before the 2021 season. He would end up at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, where he played three seasons in Steve Sarkisian’s offense, completing 65% of his passes for 9,128 yards, 68 total touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. Ewers looked comfortable in Sark’s offense, an offense that Miami’s QB1 is familiar with and something that Ewers believes will give him an advantage in Mike McDaniel’s system.

“It’s definitely going to help for sure, 100 percent. Running some of the same concepts. I know ‘Sark’ (Steve Sarkisian) went down there to talk to Mike (McDaniel) in the offseason. I think when they were in OTAs or something like that. We got to hear some stories,” Ewers said. “I’m just beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity the Dolphins have given me. I’m excited to meet all the new teammates I’m going to have. It’s going to be fun. I think it all happens for a reason. I’m excited to be a Dolphin.”

Familiarity in a similar offense, coupled with his lightning-quick release and a mental make-up that allowed him to overcome Arch Manning breathing down his neck and a transfer out of Ohio State, gives me enough reason to believe he can make the battle for QB2 interesting. If Ewers can even be a suitable backup for Tagovailoa, the pick would be a home run, but there’s the slight chance he could be even more. Could he become the player so many analysts and scouts thought he was capable of before?

Stranger things have happened, and I believe with everything falling into place, that’s what Bryant sees. He may never have the accolades of Marino or push Tagovailoa for the starting job, but Ewers has the chance to be an essential piece in Miami.

And hey, who knows what could happen!

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins selecting Quinn Ewers in the 7th round of the 2025 NFL Draft? Do you think his skill set fits Mike McDaniel’s offense? How excited are you for the Zach Wilson vs. Quinn Ewers preseason battle? Let us know in the comments section below!

Dolphins exploring veteran cornerback options - The Splash Zone 4/28/25

AFC Championship Game: Buffalo Bills v Kansas City Chiefs

Photo by Aaron M. Sprecher/Getty Images

Welcome to the Splash Zone, the quickest way to get your day started off right. We bring you a rundown of Miami Dolphins news from the last 24 hours.

Many fans and analysts saw the Miami Dolphins investing early in a cornerback during the NFL Draft. They didn’t draft one till the fifth round when the selected Jason Marshall, who is viewed as a developmental prospect. With Jalen Ramsey expected to be traded at some point, the Dolphins need to add a veteran to start. One name they have looked into is Rasul Douglas, who was most recently with the Buffalo Bills. There’s actually quite a few others names they should look into and they can start adding free agents after 4 p.m. ET today. That’s when signings won’t count towards the compensatory pick formula.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Has The Narrative Shifted Edition

Northwestern v Michigan

There has been a narrative surrounding the Miami Dolphins over the last few years. It's one of those narratives that has caught the attention and earned the endorsement of not only the media but also of the players and fans. We are all aware, and for the most part agree, that the team is, and has been, too soft. When fully healthy, Miami has been able to beat lower-end teams easily and, for the most part, those that are just average, aka teams that might be a wildcard team but are unlikely to make any real noise in the playoffs. Their record against the top playoff teams is horrible. The Dolphins, except for their incredible comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, have generally been pushed around fairly easily by those teams, earning them their well-deserved label of being soft.

The Dolphins' front office finally admitted what we have all been yelling for a long while: they need to get tougher and meaner in the trenches. Tua can be great, but he has shown that he needs to be well protected if we hope to see him on the field for a full season and through any possible playoff run. The defense, while reasonably good last season, also gets pushed around by the better offenses in the league. With those realities in mind, the front office seems to have finally started addressing the lack of bigger, nastier players that the better teams all seem to feature on their offense and defensive lines.

With all of that in mind, this evening’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

So, with the knowledge that the team has finally, at the very least, attempted to address the lack of being a “tougher” team or “nasty” enough in the trenches during this years draft, do you believe that the team is finally headed in the right direction, or do you think that this is a little too little a little too late in an attempt by Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel to keep their jobs beyond this season? Has your confidence in those two gone up if you were out on them? Are you still out on them and believe it’s time for a refresh in the front office and with the coaching staff? Are you a fan who has believed all along, and does this only further instill confidence that they are finally going to figure this out?

Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comment section below-

New alternate Miami Dolphins uniform to debut in 2025

NFL: SEP 12 Bills at Dolphins

Photo by Peter Joneleit/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Dolphins selected to take part in new Rivalries uniform series from Nike.

In a somewhat under-the-radar announcement that took place during day two of the 2025 NFL Draft, a new uniform series from Nike called Rivalries will debut in the National Football League during the 2025 NFL season which will see eight teams across the league receive an alternate uniform combination for a single home game against a division foe.

The Miami Dolphins are part of the new Rivalries seriesalong with every team from the AFC East and NFC West.

The press release from the NFL reads like this:

“Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival. Following their reveal, these Rivalries uniforms will be included in their team’s uniform lineup for three years after introduction, in addition to existing alternate uniforms.”

It sounds like a similar idea to Major League Baseball’s City Connect initiative — a concept that has received mixed reviews from baseball fans across the nation. Unlike the MLB’s alternate uniform program, the participating NFL teams will only be wearing their new alternate jersey once per season, however.

While many Miami Dolphins fans have been clamoring for a change to their current uniform, most fans seemingly would prefer that the historic South Florida franchise return to their roots and make their current throwback uniforms permanent. While it doesn’t sound like that change will be taking place any time soon, a new look is on the way in the coming weeks/months, and we will keep you updated with those changes —and show you what the uniforms look like — once announcements are made.
