BREAKING NEWS: Miami Dolphins’ LT Terron Armstead Plans To Retire After 12 NFL Seasons

Armstead started 38 games for the Dolphins over the last three seasons and will now ride off into the sunset, but not before passing the torch to second-year tackle, Patrick Paul. #FinsUp

After restructuring his contract in March, the writing appeared on the wall for Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead and his future in the National Football League. The 12-year NFL veteran had an important decision to make regarding whether or not to return to play for a 13th season in 2025 with the Dolphins. Mike McDaniel was uncertain, but seemed to lean towards Armstead retiring. Even Armstead didn’t sound the most optimistic, and yet no one truly knew what he would do.

Until now.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (which was later confirmed by several national insiders), Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead is retiring after 12 impressive NFL seasons, which included five Pro Bowls and a second-team All-Pro in 2018.

Dolphins five-time Pro Bowl LT Terron Armstead is retiring, officially ending a star-studded 12-year career. Armstead was one of the best left tackles of his generation beginning with his stint with the Saints. Now, he heads into his second career ️.

Ian Rapoport (@rapsheet.bsky.social) 2025-04-06T00:52:49.679Z

Drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft (75th overall), Armstead would play nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints before signing with the Dolphins as a free agent in March of 2022. Initially, Armstead would sign a 5-year-deal worth $ 75 million with the team. The two sides would restructure that deal in 2024 and again this offseason as Armstead contemplated his future. He’s now made a decision that will undoubtedly shake up Mike McDaniels’ offense this upcoming season.

The 33-year-old left tackle was still playing at a very high level when healthy. However, the keywords are “when healthy”. In his three seasons in South Florida, he appeared in 38 games with the Dolphins. We’ve all heard the saying “the best ability is availability,” right? Unfortunately for Armstead, the older he got, the more unavailable he became (that’s not to say he wasn’t a warrior because he absolutely was). He will now ride off into the sunset to spend time with his family and prepare for the next journey, which, if Rapoport’s skeet was any indication, could be as a broadcaster or analyst.

For Miami, we’ll now officially see the passing of the torch between Armstead and Patrick Paul. The 23-year-old, second-round draft pick started three games for the Dolphins as a rookie in 2024. According to Pro Football Focus, Paul played 248 snaps at left tackle and 83 at right tackle. He was penalized five times and allowed 15 pressures and three sacks. And yet, based on everything I saw, the moment never appeared too big, outside his time at right tackle. He looked good. Sure, there will be a dropoff because he’s not Armstead, but there’s much to love about Paul. That said, there are still other ways the teams can fortify the offensive line and protect themselves from inevitable injuries.

For example, Miami could select an offensive lineman with the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft. After all, some of the top offensive linemen are tackles with the ability to kick inside and play guard. The rookie could slide inside and play guard, and then, if — and I do mean if — there are any doubts with Paul, you can decide whether you want to move the newcomer back to their original position.

Who knows, but what I do know is that a 33-year-old #elite left tackle is no longer on the roster. And in his place now is a young, up-and-comer with all the potential in the world. Can Patrick Paul seize the moment? I hope so because he has MASSIVE shoes to fill.

OH, and one more thing::::

“Thank you, Terron Armstead!”

The team's front office you would most like to copy!

Baltimore Ravens Training Camp

I recently wrote a post discussing the possibility that if things do not start to look up for the team very shortly, like this coming season, general manager Chris Grier and others from the front office will very likely be looking for new gigs. I then asked the following question:

If you could pick one NFL front office for our Miami Dolphins to emulate, who would it be and why?

While we did not have a significant response, below are some of the thoughts and answers to the day's question.

Thomas23059 says to do things your own way or never find the top of that mountain.

I don’t want them to copy any other front office. I want them to find their own path. You don’t achieve greatness by trying to be someone else. You do it by being the best version of yourself.

finfanfromsiam seems to want to time travel to a time when Ozzy was still the GM.

Ravens! Especially with OZZY!

dedstrk316 is with Clark on this one.

I’d say Baltimore. They are the new Steelers. Consistently a contender.

Alley Gator does not want to be like the Browns. Also, they should have avoided the rapey QB.

Not that long ago the Detroit Lions went 0-16, and the Cleveland Browns did the same. They were both habitual losers. Now, the difference? The Detroit Lions built a great Offensive Line first and it made a QB like Goff look good. Now they’re building the Defensive Line. And they’re winning.

The Browns chose to spend a fortune on a QB along with three first round picks, which meant they couldn’t build either OL or DL. Now they’re losers.

Don’t be the Browns, Grier.

sdphinsfan wants Ross to look to the Chiefs, Eagles, and Ravens as examples of how to build a front office.

Modern day fans think Belicheck is a genius. But he’s got a lot of copy cat in him. The Patriots dynasty was pretty much the same blueprint as the Shula dynasty in Miami. In both cases, the teams over the years had a few great players, a ton of good players, and they very rarely ever beat themselves. The hardest thing to do in the NFL is to beat a team that doesn’t beat themselves. To have a team like that, you’ve got to have the culture in place to do it, and not just in the locker room. It has to start at the top and it has to permeate the entire organization. IMO, the Chiefs, Eagles and Ravens are the best examples of this approach today. It’s why their organizations are raided almost every year. And yet, they keep winning, without changing a thing.

MIAMI235 says look to the last team to win it all!

Philly. They managed to put together two SuperBowl winners….beating both Brady and Mahomes. ( Without overrated Andy Reid)

Thank you once again to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day. If there was a leader in the clubhouse, I guess it would be the Baltimore Ravens. I would love for our Miami Dolphins to be as scary a team to face as Baltimore.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: It Does Seem Inevitable Edition

NFL: JAN 31 Super Bowl LII Preview - Commissioner Goodell Press Conference

Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

I have already covered this topic in a post asking if you thought the NFL would move to an 18-game regular season. I was not sure, and most of you, if I recall correctly, did not believe it would happen. Now I think as much of the NFL media that it will happen whether we like it or not, no matter the added safety risk it adds for players. There's another recent article HERE talking about what they see as the inevitable 18-game season and its implications.

Any season expansion would require the renegotiation of the CBA between the owners and the players. I expect the players' union and the players themselves to push back due to the additional injuries that will occur. The owners will, of course, counter with something like an additional bye week and more money thrown at the issue for not only playing extra games but possibly additional benefits. Either way, I suspect those who hold the most immense piles of money in this fight, like with most things, will come out on top and get their way.

Beyond the agreement, decisions will need to be made on how to restructure the schedule and the season itself. I am sure that if the owners do not add at least one more bye week, the players will demand it. There will be more money for an additional game, but the players will most likely seek other extra revenue. As with any union, I also believe that the players will push for expanded rosters. An additional 3 to 4 players would do a lot for some teams to address injuries that seem to be increasing yearly. The league could even make an exemption for the lowest two players to not count against a team's cap, as those two will be minimum-salary guys anyway.

So tonight’s question is: With the possibility of an 18-game season seeming more likely and even inching toward being more likely than not, do you believe there is a chance that the owners do not get their way this time, despite that usually/almost always being how it goes? Moreover, if and when this happens, assuming that it does happen, what do you think the players should ask for/demand in return from the owners, and what do you think the owners will ultimately concede to make more money for themselves?

Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-

Miami Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead classy in retirement announcement, reactions

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

Miami Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead announced his retirement over the weekend - and he continues to show class as people react.

Miami Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead announced his retirement over the weekend, ending a 12-year NFL career. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Armstead handled himself with class throughout his career. He was selected in the third round of the 2013 season, and, while injuries would shorten each season of his career, Armstead proved to be a franchise left tackle during his nine years with the New Orleans Saints and three with the Dolphins. As he heads into retirement, the class he demonstrated throughout his career continues into his posts on Instagram and X.

Armstead started 131 games during his career and his impact on the offensive line cannot be questioned. He locked down the left tackle position for both the Saints and the Dolphins any time he was on the field. He battled to be in on every play possible, even when he was clearly not 100 percent healthy, and his presence immediately upgraded the offensive line.

Today we take a look at Armstead’s recent posts on both IG and X. While every player makes statements and announcements on social media when they retire, something about Armstead’s feels more personal than most.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: Should The Dolphins Really Be Done With Him Edition

Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

We found out yesterday that star tackle Terron Armstead had decided to retire from playing after 12 seasons in the NFL. This is a significant loss for our Miami Dolphins, as he was one of the very best at his position when he was healthy enough to be on the field, given his seemingly constant stream of injuries. Most of us have probably sadly seen this as an inevitable outcome sooner rather than later.

So what now for T-Stead? In addition to his excellent play, he is also known as a great locker-room guy and team leader. Additionally, as with most offensivelinemen, he’s also exceptionally intelligent. It is unfortunate to lose a guy on the field who exemplified precisely what you want in a player with his behavior, but does it have to be the end? Like most professional leagues, the NFL has a history of keeping some of their more prominent names around with the team after their playing days have ended.

Like Many other teams in the NFL, Miami has brought back former players in various roles, including Nat Moore and Dan Marino. I have often thought that when certain players who gave you something beyond their excellent play on the field retire, the team should consider giving a guy who has meant so much to the team in the past a continuing future with the team. Despite T-Stead having such a short stint with the Dolphins, it’s hard not to think of him as possibly one of those guys.

So tonight's question is: Given his proven leadership, would you like to see the Dolphins extend Armstead the offer of a position with the organization that can continue to pay benefits for the team? Besides Terron, are there other former players that you would like to see the team bring back in a different role? What about other guys who are currently playing? Do you see a possible future role for them with the team when their playing days are over?

Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-

NFL Mock Draft 2025: Mel Kiper Jr. predicts Miami Dolphins’ first two picks

SPORTS-FBN-PERKINS-COLUMN-MI

David Santiago/Miami Herald/Tribune News Service via Getty Images

With their first two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr., sees the Miami Dolphins selecting...

The 2025 NFL Draft is just over two weeks away. Mock Draft season is in full tilt as people predict the picks for all 32 NFL teams. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr., updated his projection for this year, expanding his mock draft into a two-round mock. Who does he think the Miami Dolphins might pick? We take a look at his selections and analysis.

He starts the draft with the Tennessee Titans selecting University of Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick, the first of five quarterbacks he has in the first 64 selections. His second passer does not come off the board until the ninth pick, with the New Orleans Saints adding Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. There has been some thought that if Sanders were to fall to the 13th pick, where Miami could select him, they might have to pull the trigger on that move - but Kiper removes that debate just a few selections before Miami.

First Round, 13th overall pick

When it comes to Miami’s first pick, Kiper has them addressing a big need on the defensive side of the ball. While many people are looking at defensive tackle when it comes to the Dolphins, especially after Calais Campbell signed with the Arizona Cardinals, Kiper looked to the secondary.

With the 13th pick, Kiper gave the Dolphins Texas cornerback Jahde Barron.

Of the selection, he wrote:

Terron Armstead’s retirement makes this interesting. The Dolphins ranked 28th in pass block win rate last season (55.7%), and protecting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is paramount. Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr. could fit. But Miami also drafted Patrick Paul late in the second round last April, and he has spent a year learning behind Armstead. The Dolphins could start Paul and use this pick to clean up the CB2 spot opposite Jalen Ramsey, where either Storm Duck, Cam Smith or Ethan Bonner is currently slated to start.

Barron would jump to the front of the line. His ball skills (five INTs in 2024), speed and versatility would boost the unit.

I understand Kiper’s statement about Armstead’s retirement, but I do not think that factors into Miami’s consideration at all. Like he said, they have Paul to be his replacement. If they Dolphins are looking offensive line, they are probably looking guard over tackle, even with Armstead’s retirement.

Adding a cornerback in the first round to give them a starter opposite Ramsey, and eventually Ramsey’s replacement at the top of the position group, is a sensible move here.

Second Round, 48th overall

Kiper stays defensive for Miami’s second pick, turning to the line of scrimmage. With Campbell’s departure, the Dolphins will be looking to add players who can make up for the snaps Campbell played, along with finding a way to eat up blocks so defensive lineman Zach Sieler and the edge rushers can disrupt plays.

With the 48h pick, Kiper selected Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander for Miami.

Miami still needs pass protection, and Tyler Booker would have been a perfect fit had he fallen one more spot . Rather than reach, the Dolphins could take care of another big need. Alexander can play pretty much anywhere on the defensive line, bringing quickness and physicality. He had 101 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 27 run stops, 50 pressures and 7.5 sacks over the past two seasons. That production would be welcomed in the middle of the Miami defensive front.

(Guard Tyler Booker from Alabama, mentioned by Kiper, was selected 47th by the Arizona Cardinals in this mock.)

Kiper is not wrong in his assessment that the Dolphins have a big need at defensive tackle and having someone who can play anywhere along the line would be “welcomed” for the Dolphins. This seems like a solid option for the pick, giving the Dolphins two strong selections with their first two picks.

After this, Miami needs to address the offensive line and safety positions.

What do you think of Kiper’s picks for Miami? Let us know in the comments below.

Your Best All Time Miami Dolphins Offensive Starting 11!

Pittsburgh Steelers v Miami Dolphins

Photo by Focus on Sport/Getty Images

Last week, I posted more of an exercise than a question in the PQOTD post. On the post HERE, I made a brief list of the best players at each position on offense, all-time for our Miami Dolphins, that I mostly stole from Kevin's previous post and then added a couple of my choices. Here was the question exercise that I asked posted:

Please give us your best 11-man all-time offensive starting offensive roster. If you prefer a player that, for some reason (like old age where you can’t remember like you once did) did not make the list above, certainly use that player and tell us why you believe he belongs.

Below are some of your all-time rosters and thoughts-

sdphinsfan is more jazzed about the defense!

QB-Dan

RB-Ricky & Mercury

FB-Czonka

WR-Warfield/Clayton/OJ (shout out to Irving Fryar too)

LT-Webb

LG-Kuech/Simms (I’m gonna fudge here, can’t leave one off)

C-Stephenson (Langer should get an honorable mention)

RG-Larry Little

RT-Big Jake

TE-Crash

Can’t wait until we get to do the Defense!

PA phinphan is a big fan of an all-time Phins great!

I am a huge Nat Moore fan. He was never afraid to go across the middle and did whatever was asked of him, the consummate teammate.

QB - Marino

RB - Williams/Csonka

FB - none going three wide

TE - Randy McMichael

WR - Warfield/Duper/Nat Moore

LT - Webb

LG - Kuechenberg

C- Stephenson

RG - Incognito (I know he was LG but he could play either side)

RT - Long

JasonR1324 says Hill could bump Clayton with a couple more seasons on the roster.

QB - Marino

RB - Williams

FB - Csonka

TE - Jackson

WR - Warfield/Clayton (If Hill sticks around for a couple more years I’ll put him here ahead of Clayton)

LT - Webb

LG - Kuechenberg

C - Stephenson

RG - Little

RT - Long

Thomas23059 wanted Waddle on the list. I like Waddle, but he will still have to show me a bit more.

Jaylen Waddle certainly deserves to be up there as a WR, though he needs to do it longer before he makes the all time starting 11. I do think he has the potential to be there eventually, as he is 3rd in Dolphins history in receiving yards per game.

As far as starting 11 goes, since that was the question:

QB - Marino

RB - Ricky Williams

FB - Czonka

TE - Keith Jackson (but really, we are going three wide)

WR - Hill and Warfield (and on 3 wide I’m going with Waddle)

O-Line - Stephenson, Little, Keuchenberg, Armstead, and Webb because he was good enough to play either side.

Spok507 is really under Jonnu’s spell for the moment.

QB: Marino

RB: 2002 Ricky Williams/2016 Jay Ajayi

WR: Clayton (tho I’d love to see Marino air it out to Hill over and over!)

FB: Czonka

TE: Kind of enamored with Jonnu Smith right now.

OL: Webb, Simms, Stephenson, Little, Long

Cyberflea is also a big Ricky fan, I assume.

QB - Marino

RB - Williams

FB - Csonka

TE - Jackson

WR - Warfield/Duper/Clayton

LT - Webb

LG - Kuechenberg

C - Stephenson

RG - Little

RT - Evans

Dolphster makes a solid point. As much as I was around watching the players of the 70s and 80s and love many of those guys and what they did for my team and my home city, I am pretty sure many would have a hard time competing in today's NFL.

I have a love/hate relationship with these types of questions because some of my favorite Dolphins were from the 70’s and the game is so different now that some of the best of that era would get eaten alive today because the players are so much bigger/faster/stronger and the game is played so differently. But I’ll give it a shot.

QB: Marino

RB: Rickie Williams

FB: Csonka (of course)

TE: Mandich (admittedly a sentimental pick because he was a personal friend of mine)

WR: (when using 3 wideouts) Warfield, Clayton, Duper (that was the toughest position for me because I hated leaving off Nat Moore and OJ McDuffie)

OL:

C: Stephenson

G: Keith Sims and Larry Little (Sorry Keuch, it breaks my heart to leave you off)

SlayerNation1 says OJ is underrated, but I suspect, like myself, that many of us remember his greatness very well.

There is no way, OJ McDuffie is getting left off. OJ always an afterthought and maybe the most underrated Dolphin, ever. He was tough, worked as downfield, possession, blocking and as a great returner. Duper was a big play field stretcher.

Thank You for leaving Waddle off the list. He is as underwhelming as it gets, especially, at His draft position.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: This Story Has Long Since Become Tired Edition

Miami Dolphins v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

Tyreek Hill! Yes, this is yet another post about Hill, and while some might complain, I argue that he is the one, via his own poorly thought-out actions, that keeps these stories coming, not us. Although Hill is one of the top players in the NFL and often serves as the engine driving the Miami Dolphins' entire offense, he isn't without his drawbacks. From what I can see, aside from being an elite player, Hill was a great teammate- until he wasn't. I understand emotions run high, but it’s hard to accept that a guy who was made the highest-paid wideout and then had his contract reworked to align with others who later surpassed him believes he has the right to lose his cool simply because he dislikes losing and chooses to quit on the team.

I respect the frustration and can understand the part about being upset. However, when you are the second highest-paid player on the team, behind only the quarterback, you are expected to show up for work and perform your damn job, at the VERY LEAST, regardless of how you feel about the current situation. Moreover, you are undoubtedly expected to lead by example. I doubt any of us, no matter how seriously we take our jobs, could show up to work, pull some childish stunt like that, and continue unscathed; additionally, it's most likely that none of us are doing our jobs for anything even close to what he gets. Then there are the off-the-field “issues”. Seriously, WTF is he doing? This is one of those things that we have to almost expect to happen every six months or so.

Can this grown man not go six months without experiencing some negative incident? I understand the argument that he hasn’t done anything wrong here or there, but that’s not always the case. Additionally, there are 53 men on the roster, and miraculously, the rest of the team manages to live their lives daily with almost no negative stories about any of them. Not even these incidents where the police must be called despite “no crime being committed.” I know that eventually, some other Phins player will be in the news for something foolish, but that will most likely be followed by some statement from the team, a public apology from the player, and that’s the end. Most of those players somehow manage to do what Hill cannot and keep their name out of the news even a second time.

Even without this latest “incident”, whatever it was, the team was widely rumored to be shopping Hill, and the list of teams that were rumored to be interested is extensive. While I suspect that much of those rumors are just that, rumors, any long-time fan knows that most rumors with this much smoke around them tend to have a little, if not a lot, of truth to it. I don’t know if the team has shopped him or just put out feelers to see what he would bring. Maybe teams have contacted the Dolphins to inquire if he’s available. I also believe any player, even one as impactful as Hill, should be available for trade at any time for the right price.

Some fans also believe that he can’t be traded due to his salary. If he is traded before the draft, it would cost the team an additional $ 600K to not have him on the roster, yet teams have absorbed much larger salaries to offload players they no longer want. Yes, he would then be an almost 30-million-dollar dead space in your cap, but then he’s off your books, and you can move on much like Denver did with Russell Wilson. Additionally, while you would have to eat a large chunk of the cap before the draft, if his trade were to return enough in draft picks, that could provide you with some players at needed positions at very low cap numbers in return for not only this season but the next few helping the team get an out of control cap situation back in line. If you wait until after the draft and make him a post-June 1st trade, it counts $12,728,750 in dead cap space and saves $14,970,000 against the cap. Both scenarios could make sense for the proper return.

So tonight’s PQOTD is not if they should trade Tyreek or your take on this latest “incident”. Our question of the day is:

If the team were to trade Tyreek Hill, no matter your take on whether it should or should not happen, what would be a return that you would either be happy with or at least be able to live with as a fan?

MAREK’S MOCK: Full Miami Dolphins 7-round 2025 NFL Draft mock version 8.0

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic - Ohio State v Texas

Dolphins add even more speed by selecting Matthew Golden in the first round.

The Miami Dolphins have an ongoing Tyreek Hill problem.

On Wednesday evening, it was reported by Andy Slater of WPLG in Miami that Hill was involved in another domestic disturbance that required the intervention of the police. Although no one was charged with a crime, Hill’s wife, Keeta Vaccaro Hill, reportedly suffered a bruise to her chest during the dispute and has allegedly since filed for divorce from the 31-year-old wide receiver.

If the Dolphins were to move on from Hill this season or next, they could be in the market for another speedster receiver to take the place of the man nicknamed The Cheetah.

Today’s mock draft explores that option. I’m not sure it’s the route I’d actually take if I were the general manager of the Dolphins, and I’m even less certain that Miami’s actual GM Chris Grier would have the cojones to pull off such a move, but it’s worth entertaining nonetheless. Regardless, I’m sure everyone will react with nothing but civility and levelheadedness...

As a reminder, once a week, every week until the 2025 NFL Draft, I’ll be doing a full 7-round mock, and then giving you a chance to grade my results. Each draft will look slightly different, because, let’s be honest, the Dolphins have a ton of needs and can go in a million different directions come late April when the actual NFL Draft kicks off.

This exercise will allow us to examine different pathways to success for our beloved South Florida franchise, while hopefully having some fun in the process!

So, without further adieu, let’s unwrap my latest mock draft!

ROUND 1 - Pick #13

Matthew Golden — WR — Texas

What the experts are saying:

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden is an explosive pass catcher who boasts versatility in how he can impact a passing game. The Texas offense unleashed a downfield weapon that accentuated his burst off the line of scrimmage — but his inside/outside versatility sets the stage for a player who can win from the slot with separation quickness and in underneath targets as well.

Golden illustrates excellent body control and contortion skills at the catch point, unlocking his frame to adjust to throws of all angles and making him a high-percentage target when he’s given opportunities despite coverage that may be working back into his frame. Golden was an impactful contested catch target in 2024 despite not having the biggest frame and boasting significant separation skills. He’s got a little something for everyone. (Kyle Crabbs, The 33rd Team)

___

ROUND 2 - Pick #48

Jonah Savaiinaea — OG — Arizona

What the experts are saying:

Arizona Wildcats offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea is a physical mauler in the trenches. He boasts positional versatility across his college resume, but his brute force power and heavy anchor will be best optimized at guard in the NFL.

Savaiinaea lacks the kind of dynamic hips and foot speed to allow him to consistently dictate terms on the edge as a space blocker setting the width of the pocket, but in short set opportunities and tighter alignment defenders, he has the chance to smother defenders with his center of gravity and grip strength.

He should be a viable run blocker from the jump — he shows good displacement and wash in vertical release and down block opportunities. The knowledge that he can get you through a stretch in a pinch at tackle will likely help move the needle for some, too. (Kyle Crabbs, The 33rd Team)

___

ROUND 3 - Pick #98

Shemar Turner — DT —
Texas A&M

What the experts are saying:

Three-year starter with “tweener” measurables but excellent musculation and lean mass. Turner plays with unlimited activity and a heavy dose of violence. He has a quick first step and an explosive punch. He’s capable of holding the point against single blocks or working the gaps with foot quickness. His pressure rate is hurt by a lack of length but he’s a restless rusher who hunts blockers’ edges and will eventually leak through if the play extends. His athleticism and chase quickness will see him in or near the pile with some frequency as a future starter. (Lance Zierlein, NFL.com)

___

ROUND 4 - Pick #116

CJ West — DT — Indiana

What the experts are saying:

Fifth-year senior with three seasons as a full-time starter at Kent State and one at Indiana. West benefited from an extremely active, gaming front that created playmaking opportunities, but he also did the dirty work inside that scheme. He plays with adequate hand and foot quickness and is quick to diagnose the play. A lack of length and leverage at the point of attack might tie him to a one-gapping scheme as a pro. The sack totals are light, but he has enough athletic ability to compete as a rusher on single blocks. West has Day 3 value as a likely three-technique backup. (Lance Zierlein, NFL.com)

___

ROUND 4 - Pick #135

Zah Frazier — CB — UTSA

What the experts are saying:

UTSA Roadrunners cornerback Zah Frazier projects as a developmental starter at the NFL level. He’s an elite blend of length and speed, which is the foundation of many highly coveted cornerback prospects.

Frazier is effective most in zone coverage as a deep third defender working from a half-turn. This is an older prospect who is blossoming late in his college career, but teams should be undeterred, as the flashes this year were strong. He’s taken a winding path to the NFL that included three programs and would greatly benefit from the stability of consistent coaching to pull the potential out of his game. (Kyle Crabbs, The 33rd Team)

___

ROUND 5 - Pick #150

Danny Stutsman— LB — Oklahoma

What the experts are saying:

Inside linebacker with size and instincts to post a board full of high totals as a tackler. Stutsman is football smart with studious play recognition to stay one step ahead of blockers. His downhill flows narrow the runner’s angles and he’s accomplished at slipping around blockers or sliding off of them to tackle. His block take-on needs work, though. He’s efficient and productive near the line, but his effectiveness and tackling dip once the play moves into space. Stutsman is an adequate athlete with good size and special-teams talent, showing the potential to become a starting inside ‘backer. (Lance Zierlein, NFL.com)

___

ROUND 5 - Pick #155

Jack Sawyer — EDGE —
Ohio State

What the experts are saying:

Ohio State Buckeyes edge defender Jack Sawyer is a fairly clean projection to the NFL level. He’s not as physically gifted or toolsy as a number of the other pass rushers in this class, but Sawyer has the right build, strength, and instincts to still be an NFL contributor and, potentially, in the right situation, a starter.

He is an impactful run defender who found his pass rush ceiling this season thanks to effective bull rushes and a persistent motor. This is a player who should be well regarded in base fronts as a hand in the dirt end and charged with predominantly setting edges in the run game.

Sawyer has developed into a well-regarded locker room leader at Ohio State and plays with the same passion as a high-motor player. The challenge for an NFL team will be finding the right mix of early and late down opportunities for him as a part of their rotation. (Kyle Crabbs, The 33rd Team)

___

ROUND 7 - Pick #224

Jackson Hawes — TE —
Georgia Tech

What the experts are saying:

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tight end Jackson Hawes projects as a “glue guy” for an offensive program. He thrives in a role that does not command the football. He is a willing and able participant in all the “dirty work” reps required to set dynamic talents up for success.

He’s a physical and gifted blocker who has showcased the ability to work in-line or from the backfield as a lead blocker or split-flow defender. His modest receiving profile was amplified after making the leap from Yale to Georgia Tech in 2024, which will certainly cap his valuation in the draft process. However, this is a player who has a valuable role to play for an NFL team nonetheless. (Kyle Crabbs, The 33rd Team)

___

ROUND 7 - Pick #231

Craig Woodson — SAF — California

What the experts are saying:

Woodson is an athletic down safety with easy hips and good change-of-direction quickness. He’s a quick thinker and reactor to route combinations and quarterback actions. His make-up speed is average and he has a tougher time blanketing big targets. He’s ready and willing in run support but lacks the stopping power and block take-on of a typical box safety. Woodson can play on special teams and should compete for a job as a dime safety.(Lance Zierlein, NFL.com)

___

ROUND 7 - Pick #253

Jaydon Blue — RB — Texas

What the experts are saying:

Blue played behind very good backs, so his carry count is lower, but he clearly has talent. He’s a narrow-hipped, linear runner with good speed to threaten wide and attack downfield out of the backfield. He has adequate wiggle in the open field but lacks base strength to break tackles. Blue’s lack of tempo and vision inside gets him behind schedule and could limit how teams use him as a ball-carrier. While he can be labeled a “change-of-pace slasher,” his real value will revolve around his ability to mismatch linebackers and threaten defenses as a receiver out of the backfield. (Lance Zierlein, NFL.com)
