Dolphins vs. Jets final score: Reactions as Miami dominates for win

imagn-27766193.jpg

The Miami Dolphins opened their Week 14 game against the New York Jets with three-straight touchdown drives. The Miami defense came to play on the day, dominating from the opening kick through to the end of the contest – New York’s only touchdown came on a punt return. The Dolphins smacked around their AFC East rivals all game.

The game was not perfect for Miami, who struggled to find an offensive rhythm during for much of the middle 30 minutes of the contest, but they dominated a bad team on Sunday and kept themselves alive in the AFC playoff picture.

Running back De’Von Achane’s injury will be the major storyline after the game, with a ribs injury limiting him to just seven carries – albeit for 92 yards – in the game. He spent most of the afternoon on the sideline in a parka.

Below you will find our full-game recap of all the action. Reactions are in italics.

Final Score

Dolphins 34 – 10 Jets

First Quarter

Dolphins explode on ground enroute to early score

The Dolphins won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kick. Four plays later, they were in the endzone for the opening score of the game. A beautifully designed counter end-around run from wide receiver Jaylen Waddle picked up 21 yards on the second play of the drive, then running back De’Von Achane powered through the middle of the line to gain 39 yards. Miami capped the 69-yard drive with a three-yard pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to Waddle for the score.

Miami came out looking to establish the run game early, and they were effective. Achane was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November and is already looking to back it up in December. That is the start the Dolphins need in a game that they have to and should win.

Dolphins 7-0.

Dolphins defense smothers Jets’ first drive

The Jets’ first drive featured an incomplete pass when quarterback Tyrod Taylor was forced to throw away the ball to avoid a sack, a three-yard run from running back Breece Hall, and an incomplete pass with Miami cornerback Rasul Douglas making a great pass breakup. The defense gave New York nothing, and they forced the three-and-out punt.

Miami continues chunk-play attack

After stopping the Jets with less than a minute of time of possession coming off the clock, Miami went back to their big-play attack on New York. The Dolphins opened with a 23-yard pass from Tagovailoa to tight end Greg Dulcich. Two plays later, Tagovailoa threw to tight end Darren Waller for 13 yards, then to Waddle for 24 yards. On 1st-and-10, Achane found a lane to the offense’s left and made his way into the endzone.

The Miami offense is hitting through the air and on the ground right now, which makes this offense scary. If they can keep this up, it will be a long day for the Jets.

Dolphins 14-0.

Miami defense forces turnover

The Dolphins’ defense continued their onslaught after the kickoff. After giving up a six-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor to tight end Mason Taylor, Miami stuffed Hall at the line of scrimmage for no gain. On 3rd-and-4, Tyrod Taylor looked toward Mason Taylor, but the pass was ruled incomplete – until a Dolphins challenge showed linebacker Tyrel Dodson was able to squeeze the ball between his legs, preventing it from hitting the ground and coming away with the interception.

What a play from Dodson. Great challenge from the Dolphins to get the ball. Miami has a chance to put this game out of reach in the first quarter.

What a pick! Squeeze and hold on!#ProBowlVote Tyrel Dodson

Dolphins immediately turn takeaway into points

Starting at the Jets’ 29-yard line, Miami overcame a mid-drive false start penalty as Tagovailoa threw to Dulcich twice for 18 yards and had a pop-pass to wide receiver Malik Washington for three yards. On 2nd-and-Goal from the two-yard line, running back Jaylen Wright powered through the middle of the line for the score.

Perfectly done. Make the Jets pay for the turnover with a touchdown.

Dolphins 21-0.

Jets three-and-out after quarterback change

Tyrod Taylor headed into the locker room with a groin injury, leading to undrafted rookie Brady Cook entering the game. After a nine-yard run from Hall, a run for no gain from Hall and an incomplete pass, led to a three-and-out punt.

Cook is making his NFL debut. The Dolphins need to make him feel the pressure of playing at the NFL level.

Dolphins match three-and-out, give up punt return

Miami got the ball back with 2:07 remaining in the first quarter, but could only pick up eight yards on the drive and were forced to punt. Jets wide receiver Isaiah Williams caught the punt at the 22-yard line, returning it 78 yards for the score, potentially giving New York a spark.

Damn. Williams worked his way through Miami’s coverage and found the space down the sideline. The biggest hit he took was from his own player as he reached the goal line and was flipped into the air. Miami’s defense is dominating, but the team is no longer shutting out the Jets with the punt return.

Dolphins 21-7.

Second Quarter

Jets nearly come away with first interception, Miami survives to punt

The Dolphins opened the drive with 17 seconds remaining in the first quarter, ending the period after a 13-yard run from Achane. After the break, Achane picked up a yard, then two incomplete passes led to a Miami punt. The Dolphins got lucky on the drive, with the first incomplete pass coming off a tipped ball that probably should have been intercepted – which would have been New York’s first interception of the season.

Miami got lucky with the near interception. That probably should have been brought in by the Jets’ defender, but they escape and punt away the ball. With the way the defense has been playing, that should not be an issue.

Hall picked up nine yards on the first two plays, setting up a 3rd-and-1 play. A botched snap on the third-down play nearly led to a Miami recovery of the fumble, but the Jets maintained control, leading to yet another three-and-out punt.

Through four possessions, the Jets have yet to record a first down. They have punted three times and lost the ball on the Dodson interception. New York has 24 total yards thus far. Miami’s defense is absolutely dominating the Jets – and it was doing it even before Cook was thrust into the game.

Miami matches three-and-out

A two-yard loss on a screen pass attempt pushed Miami back, but Wright was able to gain six yards on the second-down run to give Miami a manageable 3rd-and-6. The Jets’ defense blitzed perfectly, however, with four plays seeming to meet at Tagovailoa before the quarterback could even finish his drop back, with the eight-yard sack leading to a Miami punt.

After three touchdowns to start the game, Miami has punted three straight times on three-, five-, and three-play drives. Not sure what has changed, but the Dolphins need to get back into rhythm.

Jets still without a first down

Dolphins linebacker Chop Robinson recorded a strip-sack on first down, with Hall falling on the loose ball for a six-yard loss. Hall was able to pick up 11 yards on the next play, but a false start gave back some of the yards. Cook threw to Taylor for six yards on 3rd-and-8, leading to another Jets’ punt.

Miami’s defense is getting after the Jets, and they are not giving New York any space to operate. The offense needs to wake back up, but the defense is absolutely cruising right now.

Wright replaces Achane in Miami backfield

gettyimages-2250566176.jpg

Achane opened the drive with a 29-yard run, but appeared to grab his knee after the tackle and headed to the sideline to be checked out. Wright replaced Achane, picking up 15 yards on four-straight runs before 3rd-and-6 turned into 3rd-and-11 on a false start penalty. Miami ran a screen to Dulcich, but offsetting penalties negated what was a 25-yard gain. Miami gained a yard on a Wright run before settling for a 43-yard field goal from Riley Patterson.

Achane’s injury is the story of this drive. He headed into the locker room late in the possession with the team calling it a ribs injury, listing his as questionable to return. He looked uncomfortable walking toward the locker room. Wright is playing well in his place, but Miami needs the electricity Achane brings to the team every time he touches the ball.

Dolphins 24-7.

Rasul Douglas ends Jets threat

gettyimages-2250570498.jpg

The Jets picked up their first first-down top open the drive with a screen pass to wide receiver John Metchie III for 10 yards. After two incomplete passes, Cook threw a deep pass, with the referees calling pass interference on Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to move the ball 39 yards down the field. After a Hall run for a three-yard loss and an incomplete pass, Cook looked toward Metchie in the endzone, but cornerback Rasul Douglas picked off the pass for Miami.

That pass interference penalty was questionable, but Douglas ended any threat from the Jets’ offense. That was a great pick, with the cornerback leaping to catch the pass. Perfectly done, and great way to take advantage of a rookie quarterback trying to make a play.

Miami punts after trying to eat clock

Miami started with the ball at their five-yard line after the interception, with Wright picking up six yards on the first play. A run for a one-yard loss and an incomplete pass forced Miami to punt, but the team took 20 seconds off the clock and forced the Jets to use two of their timeouts.

The incomplete pass on the third-down play was sketchy, with Miami trying to set up a screen pass, but Wright not looking for the ball and Tagovailoa just trying to end the play – replay showed it was a forward pass, but it just barely missed being a backwards pass/fumble.

Jets end half with incomplete passes

Cook attempted two passes at the end of the half, but both fell incomplete as the half ended.

Third Quarter

Jets continue offensive struggles in second half

New York started with the ball in the second half, and were able to pick up a first down after a nine-yard pass to Williams and a four-yard run from Hall. After that, however, a sack from Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler and linebacker Bradley Chubb pushed the Jets back and they were forced to punt on 4th-and-7.

The defense picked up where they ended the half. The Jets were able to get a first down, but they are getting after Cook and making plays.

Miami three-and-out near goal line

Wright picked up a yard on the first down play from the Dolphins’ seven-yard line, but Waddle was injured on the play and struggled to get off the field, leading to Miami using a timeout. Tagovailoa was lucky on second down that a floated pass toward Wright in the flat was not picked off for a touchdown, then Wright gained five yards on a run. Miami punted on the three-and-out possession.

Tagovailoa went through his progressions well on the incomplete pass, but when he turned toward Wright, it was obvious it was headed that way, then he floated the pass. That should have been an interception, and it would have scored a touchdown, but linebacker Mykal Walker dropped the ball. Pure luck there. Tagovailoa needs to get back to looking like the quarterback of the first quarter.

Dolphins defense continues domination

A first down pass from Cook to tight end Jeremy Ruckert gained 14 yards, but the drive stalled there. On 3rd-and-9, Sieler again got to the quarterback, with Chubb cleaning up on the play, pulling down Cook for another sack. New York punted.

Officially, the sack was given to Sieler, who is turning it on late in the year. The defense is simply dominating right now.

Miami flips field, but still punt

The Dolphins opened at their 29-yard line, and got lucky on second down when a toss to running back Ollie Gordon II bounced off the running back’s chest, but he was able to fall on the loose ball. Miami ultimately moved down to the Jets’ 42-yard line, but they had to punt from there.

Not the high-power offensive drive that was saw in the first quarter, but they at least were able to move the ball out of their own end and keep the pressure on the Jets’ offense to sustain a drive.

Fourth Quarter

Jets fake punt leads to field goal

New York put together a drive through the end of the third quarter and into the fourth period. The drive was highlighted by a fake punt, with the Jets pulling off a 20-yard gain on 4th-and-89. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Cook found fullback Andrew Beck for 17 yards, moving New York to the Miami 24-yard line. Two plays later, Cook threw to Taylor for a 13-yard gain before the Miami defense shut down New York’s attack, leading to a field goal.

The defense looked tired on that possession, but they still did not allow the touchdown. Now the offense needs to take some pressure off the defenese.

Dolphins 24-10.

Wright runs clock, Gordon scores

Miami opened the drive with 12:08 remaining in the game and turned to Wright to run as much clock as possible. On a nine-play drive, Wright carried the ball six times, picking up 49 yards on the drive. Tagovailoa threw one time, finding Waddle for 11 yards. Gordon ran mid-drive for no gain, then ended the possession with a seven-yard run into the endzone.

Wright went over 100 yards, reaching 110, on the drive; the offense misses Achane’s explosiveness, but Wright, who was a forgotten member of the roster earlier this season, has done a great job in replacing the injured starter. Miami ate 8:42 off the clock on the drive.

Ollie Gordon gets the TD credit – but the offensive line came to work!

Dolphins 31-10.

Dolphins defense gets sack happy

The Jets ran 10 plays on the drive. Miami recorded sacks on three of them, with linebacker Matthew Judon, Sieler, and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu each tallying a quarterback takedown. The Melifonwu sacks came on 4th-and-10, leading to a turnover on downs for the Jets at their 31-yard line.

The sacks were coming faster than I could keep up with them on X. Obviously the Jets are in pass-only mode, and they are using a rookie, undrafted quarterback, so Miami is taking advantage of the situation right now.

Zach Wilson returns to MetLife in mop-up duty

The Dolphins pulled Tagovailoa for the end of the game, turning the offense over to Zach Wilson. Wilson had not played in a game since leaving the Jets after the 2023 season, serving as the backup with the Denver Broncos last year but never appearing. The drive centered on Miami’s running game, with both Wright and Gordon getting carries while the Jets used their timeouts. Miami added three points on a 53-yard field goal from kicker Riley Patterson.

Miami is simply trying to run the clock at this point. Wilson getting back into a game at MetLife Stadium was a good moment.

Cook directs Jets into redzone, Ethan Bonner ends the threat

Beginning at their 40-yard line, the Jets looked to strike quickly. After an incomplete pass, Cook was able to find Mitchell for a 24-yard gain, then backed it up with a nine-yard pass to Metchie before the two-minute warning. On a 2nd-and-10 a few plays later, Cook threw to Williams for 15 yards before looking to the endzone, only to have cornerback Ethan Bonner pick off the pass for the touchback.

What a play by Bonner. That felt like it was going to be a late-game touchdown, but Miami’s defense never gave up and they only allowed one field goal throughout the game. Great play from Bonner, who ripped it away from the receiver one handed as he was falling.

Dolphins kneel out clock

Wilson knelt twice to end the game.

The Miami Dolphins continued their run game dominance as the New York Jets became the latest victim to this potent ground game. De’Von Achane rushed for 92 yards before being forced from the game with a knee injury and then it became the Jaylen Wright show. Wright has been a bit of an afterthought, but he slid right on in to that starting spot and had himself a career day with 107 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Achane’s status will have to be monitored but hopefully he will be good to go next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

Andrew Meyer to return to Miami Dolphins practice

gettyimages-2186998292.jpg

On Monday, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke with the South Florida media and revealed that reserve offensive lineman Andrew Meyer would be returning to practice this week as the team plans to designate him to return from the injured reserve list.

Meyer was placed on injured reserve in late August with a lower body injury, but will now have 21 days to show his coaching staff that he’s healthy enough to resume play for the Dolphins. If the team chooses not to activate Meyer at any point during the next three weeks, the player will be forced to miss the remainder of the 2025 season.

Meyer signed with the Dolphins after he went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft following his college career at the University of Texas at El Paso where he had 43 starts at center for the Miners. The young offensive lineman impressed the Dolphins’ staff enough to make the team’s final 53-man roster, however he played in just one game as a rookie.

We will continue to keep you updated with all things Miami Dolphins as the team prepares to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in frigid temperatures this coming Monday night while attempting to run their season-long record to an even .500.

Fantasy Football: Miami Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright Is Worth The Waiver Claim

imagn-27546412.jpg

Seems like just last week I wrote an article about three Miami Dolphins players I think could help you win your fantasy football leagues. And in typical fashion, in less than a week, that same list is basically obsolete!

Yes, I said you should pick up veteran tight end Darren Waller — who looks like he’s starting to get back to being one of Tua Tagovailoa’s favorite targets. Since his return, Waller has caught 3 of 6 targets for 60 yards and two first downs.

Score one for the good guys!

However, I also said you should target wide receiver Malik Washington, who will now see fewer targets with Waller/Dulcich’s emergence. He also seems to be losing snaps to a lingering Cedrick Wilson, so I’m not sure whether or not I can take credit for that one.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t my biggest whiff.

Jaylen Wright getting his flowers this morning!!! GREAT recognition on the elevator door!!!! #PhinsUp pic.twitter.com/UWOIA91uK6

— Big E (@ian693) December 8, 2025

No, my biggest whiff came when I assumed Ollie Gordon II was next in line if something tragic happened to De’Von Achane. Our superstar RB left Sunday’s game vs. the New York Jets, and while sitting here with my OG2 “anytime touchdown bet,” I see who in the backfield!?

Not OG2, but Jaylen Wright — the running back who seemed in the doghouse weeks ago. It was so bad that coaches were getting excited about him, checks notes::: almost making plays on special teams. He was even inactive on game day!

And then, when all hope seemed lost — and the Dolphins needed it most — Wright came through in a big way.

(Please Note: The Offensive line has been opening up a can of whoopass as of late. They deserve ALL the flowers!)

It wasn’t all Wright in Miami’s dominant win over the Jets.

The entire run game dominated.

ladies & gentlemen: your RB room 🙂↕️ pic.twitter.com/M4p4k3l44h

— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) December 8, 2025

Achane ate before he left the game, carrying the ball 7 times for 92 yards and a touchdown. And OG2 got himself a piece of the pie, rushing for 17 yards on five carries and a touchdown late in the game. Everyone had their day, but Wright broke out in a massive way. A way in which Miami probably envisioned when they traded up to select him in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft.

So why not take a chance on Wright to help keep your season alive — or maybe, to even stash for next season if it’s one of those leagues.

As things stand, Wright is owned in just 4% of all Sleeper leagues. That will obviously change overnight when most leagues process waivers, but there’s still a very good chance — if you’re reading this in the morning — that you could still pick up Miami’s top back in Week 14. (Note: I would have dropped this sooner, but #life got in the way, and I think my league mates see my stuff, so I’m posting it now.)

That is, unless your buddy or arch-nemesis has Achane — and a higher waiver claim — in which case, it may be better to wait and pray for OG2 to get red-hot. That said, if everything works out, we’ll have Achane back in the lineup for Monday Night’s matchup vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. But then again, McDaniel isn’t necessarily the most trustworthy when it comes to injuries. So maybe it will be the following week vs. the Bengals.

But even with a healthy Achane, the San Francisco 49ers’ run-game coordinator-turned-Miami Dolphins head coach seems to have finally figured out what works in 2025, and his team is playing some of the best football of his tenure. A lot of that is because he’s committed to the run game — and utilizing all the assets at his disposal.

I may have been wrong about some of the other guys, but Wright is worth the waiver claim, IMHO.

What are your thoughts on Jaylen Wright’s emergence? Do you agree the Dolphins should continue to morph into a run-heavy offense and lean on McDaniel’s three-headed running back room? How do you feel heading into Monday Night’s PRIMETIME matchup vs. the Steelers? Let us know in the comments section below!

Fins Up, Fins Down | Week Fourteen

gettyimages-2251031299.jpg

The Miami Dolphins have climbed back from the 1-5 hole they dug for themselves to start the season — finding themselves just one game back of an even .500 record. They can inch closer to an improbable playoff berth by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football this upcoming Monday. It won’t be easy, but if the team plays like they played against the New York Jets this past Sunday, it is certainly possible.

Against the Jets in week fourteen, the Dolphins matched their largest win margin of the 2025 season — downing New York by a score of 34-10. Earlier this year, the Dolphins secured their second victory of the season by defeating the Atlanta Falcons by the same score.

In that game, Miami out-rushed the Falcons 141 yards to just 45, holding star back Bijan Robinson to just 25 yards on the ground. This past week, the Dolphins out-rushed the Jets 239 yards to 65. Noticing a pattern?

Fins Up

This week’s Fins Up player is second-year running back Jaylen Wright. After electric runner De’Von Achane left the game late in the second quarter with a rib injury, Wright took over as Miami’s lead back and led the team with some tough runs. He amassed 107 yards rushing on 24 carries — good for 4.5 yards per carry — and a rushing score.

Sunday’s yardage total was easily Wright’s best on the season — surpassing the 28 yards he had against Atlanta in the aforementioned contest. The Dolphins will be happy to have his services this week — especially if Achane is hampered by the rib ailment he incurred against New York.

Fins Down

This week’s Fins Down player is wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikinhe. NWI hasn’t caught a pass for the Dolphins since their victory over the Buffalo Bills on November 9th, over a full month ago. In fact, the 2025 free agent addition has only caught 11 passes for the Dolphins all season long after nabbing 32 for the Titans last year. He also had 9 receiving touchdowns last year in Tennessee, yet has none for Miami this season.

But it isn’t just his lack of production on the field that is hurting Miami. He is in danger of costing the Dolphins a mid-round compensatory pick with the playing time he’s receiving.

Mike McDaniel needs to have a care about how he plays Nick Westbrook-Ikhine over the next 4 games.

Their 4th round compensatory pick from losing Jevon Holland is very much in danger, and if NWI gets even 40 more snaps the rest of the year, can probably kiss that pick goodbye.

— Chris Kouffman (@ckparrot) December 8, 2025

With the receiver’s inefficiency on the field, it’s probably time to give his blocking snaps to Cedrick Wilson Jr. in order to preserve the extra 4th round selection Miami is in line for in the upcoming draft.

Phinsider Question/Discussion Of The Day: Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers Game Day Predictions

gettyimages-1435993511.jpg

I’m still out here on the road, but we will still have our regular posts of the week. Our Miami Dolphins will travel north to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Monday evening for Monday Night Football. The biggest challenge for this team will be the weather. Pittsburgh will have snow over the weekend, with a high of 20 on Monday and a low of only 13. That’s nothing for some of you who live in the more northern parts of our country, but for those of us from Florida, especially those of us like myself, from South Florida, that sounds way, way, way too cold to be outside doing anything. So without further ado-

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?

Unlike the FedEx Air & Ground awards, this award is not determined by fan vote. Instead, a national selection committee of 101 media members who cover the NFL vote on the award. Douglas is the second Dolphin to win the award this season, with linebacker Jordyn Brooks winning the award in both Week 8 and Week 11. In fact, the Dolphins are the only team in the NFL with three recognitions this year.

Last Sunday against the Jets, Douglas defended five passes (league-most), had two tackles, and managed an interception for the second week in a row. He is the only AFC defender to achieve those numbers in any game this season.

— Miami Dolphins Brasil (@dolphins_br) December 7, 2025

Douglas has been a pleasant surprise for the Dolphins this season, signing for the team just weeks before the start of the season. He leads the team in interceptions (two), and has been the heartbeat of a secondary that has lost many key starters to injury. In fact, since November 26th, Douglas has been not only one of Miami’s best corners, but one of the best corners in the league.

📊 Rasul Douglas since this tweet (ranks among all CBs):

➖ 46.7% reception rate allowed (10th lowest)
➖ 83 receiving yards allowed
➖ 3 forced incompletions (t-2nd)
➖ 3 PBUs (t-1st)
➖ 2 interceptions (t-1st)
➖ 46.7 passer rating when targeted

As fate would have it, Douglas was actually mic’d up for his exceptional performance against the Jets. Take a look yourself, and you’ll see the energy that he brings to this defense.

Douglas will look to continue his good form in Week 15, as the Dolphins head up north to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15, in a game with massive playoff implications.

The Miami Dolphins will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this Monday night to hopefully extend their win streak to five in a row. Things were looking bleak there at he beginning of November, but the team has turned the ship around thanks to a soft schedule and Mike McDaniel keeping the team together. Now the real test begins when the Dolphins start facing some tougher opponents and that begins Monday. It’s no secret, McDaniel has to finish this season strong if he wants to be back next season.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Dolphins vs. Steelers preview: Is Mike Tomlin on the hot seat? Understanding Pittsburgh’s 2025 season

gettyimages-2241503540.jpg

The Miami Dolphins put their four-game winning streak on the line this week when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers for a Week 15 Monday Night Football showdown. The Dolphins are attempting to make an improbable return to playoff contention after a 1-6 start to the year has turned into a 6-7 record ahead of this week’s game.

gettyimages-2250577971.jpg

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, have been up and down all year. They started the year with three wins in four weeks, but after their Week 5 bye, they have gone 4-5 and have not recorded back-to-back wins. They did pull off a 27-22 victory over the Baltimore Ravens last week to push themselves into the lead in the AFC North, however, and could continue to strengthen their position with a win on Monday.

As part of our preview of this week’s Dolphins game, I turned to Behind the Steel Curtain, SB Nation’s Steelers team site, to get a closer look at Pittsburgh. Contributing author Ryan Parish was kind enough to answer my questions about the Steelers. Make sure you check out my side of the conversation, previewing the Dolphins for Parish, as well.

The Steelers are such a confusing team this year. One week, it seems like Mike Tomlin is on the hot seat and might be fired. The next week, they are leading the AFC North and in a prime position to make the playoffs. Then it all swaps again. How are fans really feeling about the Steelers this season and how secure is Tomlin’s job?

gettyimages-2249986062.jpg

Unfortunately, this is nothing new for Steelers fans, as the organization has been tr1apped in its own bizarre version of Groundhog Day since at least 2019. As made clear by recent chants of “Fire Tomlin” and the booing of the song “Renegade” a previously beloved tradition, fans’ have never been more unified in their frustration with Mike Tomlin. There have always been some bad-faith actors who have opposed Tomlin’s hiring from the beginning, but even longtime Tomlin defenders such as myself have begun to feel the time for change has arrived. Tomlin is an all-time great coach, but in recent years he’s made some questionable staffing hires, and he seems opposed to adapting to recent schematic and analytic developments in the game. It’s this lack of adaptation that has officially worn down some of his defenders. That said, the Steelers’ front office is the most patient in the league. I get the sense that Tomlin will remain in Pittsburgh until his contract is up or he decides he’s ready to hang it up.

This probably plays into the ups and downs of the Steelers’ season, but the defense has not been as strong as expected this year, and now you have T.J. Watt landing in the hospital with a lung issue. What are your expectations for this week defensively for Pittsburgh, and what has and hasn’t worked this year?

gettyimages-1359877836.jpg

First and foremost, I’m hoping Watt’s injury is one he is able to recover quickly from. As far as the football of it all, the Steelers are actually well-positioned to survive him missing a game or two. Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig generate pressure at an above-average rate in their own right. And truthfully, from what I understand of the Dolphins’ offense, that ball will be coming out quickly underneath anyway. That’s how teams have neutralized the Pittsburgh pass rush for at least two seasons now, and I expect more of it this Sunday. As for the Steelers’ defensive struggles, some of that falls on the Steelers’ stubbornly playing a lot of single high safety looks despite getting torched in those looks all season. Secondly, the Steelers’ defense has played a league-high 897 defensive snaps and a league-low 718 plays on offense. That’s the equivalent of the defense playing nearly three extra games when you account for the league average of snaps in a game. The offense failing to play complementary football has taxed this defense, and it shows in the second halves of games.

Obviously, Jalen Ramsey and Jonuu Smith are of interest this week. How have they looked this season?

gettyimages-2250446554.jpg

Ramsey has been a good addition, especially after shifting him to full-time work at safety. He’s still a threat in the middle of the field, and he sets the tone for this defense when he delivers a hit that causes an incompletion or turnover. As for Smith, are you sure you guys don’t want him back? Man can’t block; he runs almost exclusively screens, flats, hitches, and quick outs, yet has provided very few yards after the catch. He’s also been stealing reps from better tight ends, namely Pat Friermuth. Smith’s been a major disappointment.

If you are the Dolphins coaching staff, designing the offensive and defensive game plans for Monday night, what are you doing to find success in this game?

gettyimages-2196843494.jpg

The Steelers have been pretty abysmal against the run, especially since rookie lineman Derrick Harmon has been sidelined with an injury. That plays into Miami’s strengths, and I would run the ball, especially to the edges, until the wheels fall off. The middle of the field is also a weak spot against the passing game, so if you can run some crossers to exploit the linebackers, as well as come with some Cover 3 beaters, you stand a puncher’s chance.

Who is a name on offense and defense Dolphins fans might not recognize, but will have an impact on the game?

gettyimages-2249561541.jpg

Cornerback James Pierre has been a cool story in Pittsburgh this year. A former undrafted rookie who is now on his second stint with the Steelers, Pierre has become one of the team’s better coverage corners. With Watt likely missing this week or being limited at best, get ready to learn the name Nick Herbig, who has been incredibly efficient as a twitched-up pass rusher. On offense, if Darnell Washington can clear concussion protocol, he should have an impact on the game as both a run blocker, and a size-speed freak in the passing game. Otherwise, DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren and Kenny Gainwell essentially are the Pittsburgh offense. It’s an incredibly siloed passing attack, not all that different from the Dolphins’ trio of Waddle, Achane and Washington.

Previewing Dolphins/Steelers matchup – The Splash Zone 12/15/25

new_splash_zone.jpg

The Miami Dolphins will be taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight for the final game of week 15. The Dolphins enter this contest on a four game winning streak and are going to be facing off against a pretty beat up Steelers team. Meanwhile, the Dolphins got some great injury news when it was announced RB De’Von Achane would be suiting up after he injured his ribs last week. It’s going to be a cold one, meaning the Dolphins will most likely have to rely on a run game that has been dominating opponents over the past month.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

The NFL is inching closer and closer to the start of the postseason. Week 15 brings us to the final four weeks of the regular season, with teams all vying for a position in the playoff brackets. How do the AFC and NFC playoff pictures stand and what teams can clinch or be eliminated this week? We break down the current situation from across the league.

While the Dolphins started the year 1-6 and looked like a team in contention for the league’s worst record, they have turned things around late in the year and somehow clawed their way back into postseason consideration. Miami Dolphins Week 15 rooting guide

  • Dolphins at Steelers (MNF): Obviously, the Dolphins need wins to make the playoffs. Root for: Dolphins
  • Ravens at Bengals: This one comes down to who you think will win the AFC North, the Steelers or the Ravens. Miami giving the Steelers a loss on Monday night would open the door for the Ravens to claim the division lead. That scenario is probably the preferred path way for Miami, because they would then have the head-to-head advantage over the Steelers in a tiebreak scenario, while the Ravens hold that advantage having beaten Miami earlier this season. If you want to argue that the Ravens losing and falling behind the Dolphins is the better path, that could be a consideration here as well. Whichever way this goes, the Dolphins need that path to continue throughout the remaining three games. Root for: Coin toss, but Ravens wins would seem to be the better pathway currently.
  • Cardinals at Texans: This one is straightforward. Miami needs the Texans to start picking up some losses, while the Cardinals are an NFC team that has no bearing on the Dolphins’ playoff chances. Root for: Cardinals
  • Jets at Jaguars: The Colts and Texans are both trying to chase down the Jaguars for the AFC South title, a move that would push Jacksonville, who already has nine wins this year, into a playoff position, and Miami does not need to deal with that. Root for: Jets
  • Chargers at Chiefs: The Dolphins only catch the Chargers if Los Angeles loses every game on their remaining schedule and Miami wins every game. While that would seem like a rooting goal, it actually is better if the Chargers pull off the win here and push Kansas City behind the Dolphins in the standings. Root for: Chargers
  • Bills at Patriots: The Patriots can end the five-year AFC East title run for the Bills with a win on Sunday, but more importantly for the Dolphins, they can also drop Buffalo to 9-5, which (assuming a Miami win on Monday) would put the Bills only two games ahead of the Dolphins in the AFC East with three games to play. Miami would love to jump the Bills, making them more likely to make it to the playoffs. Root for: Patriots
  • Packers at Broncos: There are not any actual playoff implications for the Dolphins in this game, but given the game above roots for the Patriots, rooting for Denver to hold on to the top spot in the AFC playoff picture feels right. Root for: Broncos
  • Colts at Seahawks: Philip Rivers is returning for the Colts, despite also being a semi-finalist for the Hall of Fame this year, because injuries have decimated their quarterback position. A collapse from Indianapolis would be the best thing that could happen for Miami, given the Colts dismantled the Dolphins in Week 1. Root for: Seahawks

The Good, Bad & Ugly from the Miami Dolphins Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers

gettyimages-2252127035.jpg

Well, the Miami Dolphins did that thing again. You know… the thing where they go on primetime television and embarrass themselves for the whole world to see. Or maybe that thing where they play in cold weather and look completely inept on the offensive side of the football. There is also that thing where they play against an above .500 squad and prove why they don’t belong in the conversation of best football teams in the National Football League.

Pick your poison.

After a deflating 28-15 loss on Monday Night Football to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dolphins are officially eliminated from playoff contention — which means no more “in the hunt” graphics for us. Sad face.

Oh well. There’s always next year, right? And in this writer’s opinion, next year better look a lot different than this year… in more ways than just the quality of the product displayed on the field.

GOOD

Dolphins defense sets tone early

Up until the final Steelers drive of the first half, the Dolphins defense was pitching a shutout while engaging in a tackling clinic against Pittsburgh. Defenders were flying around the ball, laying solid hits on their opponents, and showing that they didn’t come to the frigid north to be frozen out of the playoffs.

Cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Jack Jones were even getting in on the action on running plays where Steelers’ backs were trying to bounce the ball to the outside. Of course, linebacker Jordyn Brooks continued to show why he is Miami’s best defensive player — totaling 13 tackles, including two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass defensed for the contest.

Unfortunately, with no help from Miami’s offense, the Dolphins defense began to unravel at the end of the first half, and their poor performance snowballed in the blistering cold of a Pittsburgh night during the final two quarters of play.

BAD

Two former Dolphins help to dismantle Miami in primetime

The Dolphins’ slim chances of a playoff berth were dashed on Monday night, but to add insult to injury, two former Miami players contributed to their former team’s demise while the football world was watching.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s time in Miami ended unceremoniously this past offseason when rumors of his poor attitude surfaced following his trade to Pittsburgh. Tight end Jonnu Smith also fell out of favor with Miami’s front office when he demanded big money after his quality first season with the Dolphins. Both players were sent to Pittsburgh ahead of the regular season, along with a seventh round draft pick, with Miami acquiring safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and fifth round draft selection in return.

On Monday Night Football, Ramsey had a sack of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, plus a semi-viral moment when he laughed at tight end Greg Dulcich dropping a pass during a failed two-point conversion attempt late. The boisterous defensive back then proceeded to call Dulcich “f**king weak” while looking directly into the camera.

Jonnu Smith would contribute to Miami’s embarrassment by taking an Aaron Rodgers pitch to the house, scoring a rushing touchdown against his former squad early in the fourth quarter of an already out-of-hand game.

UGLY

McDaniel’s clock management draws bewilderment from commentary team

The Dolphins were down big to the Steelers in the fourth quarter of Monday’s game, yet they still had a puncher’s chance of pulling off some type of miracle comeback if the stars aligned properly for the team in the final fifteen minutes of play.

Yet, the team seemingly waved the white flag much earlier than expected, with clock management so baffling that the commentary team of Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman and Ford C. Frick Award winner Joe Buck sounded absolutely befuddled while discussing Miami’s lack of urgency while on offense during the final period of play.

The Dolphins were content with scoring style points in an effort to make the score look not so one-sided for folks who didn’t actually watch the game and witness the team curl up into a ball and admit defeat long before the clocks officially hit zero on the night — and ultimately the season.

However, the only thing head coach Mike McDaniel actually did was make himself look even more incompetent with his job hanging in the balance.

___

The Dolphins once again proved the doubters right by playing poorly in primetime, getting blown out by a quality opponent, while looking like they’ve never experienced cold weather before. The team showed that their win over the Buffalo Bills earlier this season was nothing more than a fluke, and the subsequent victories over poor teams didn’t mean anything at all. What do you think the Dolphins need to do this offseason to get the team on the right trajectory moving foward? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter at @MBrave13. Fins up.

Miami Dolphins considering quarterback change

gettyimages-2252126547.jpg

The Miami Dolphins traveled to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers on Monday Night Football in week fifteen only to be embarrassed by their opponents to the tune of a 28-15 final score that really wasn’t fully indicative of how poorly the team played.

One player whose warts were on display for the entire world to see was quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

On Tuesday, during his availability with the South Florida media, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t rule out the possibility that someone other than Tagovailoa would be manning the quarterback spot for the Dolphins against the Cincinnati Bengals this upcoming Sunday.

When asked if a quarterback change was in the cards, McDaniel had this to say:

The quarterback play last night was not good enough, so for me, everything is on the table... When the standard is not being met, something has to give.

He proceeded to say that if a move is made, the decision would be made at practice on Wednesday.

After leading the league in passing yards in 2023, and completion percentage in 2024, Tagovailoa is having his worst season in the National Football League in 2025 and now leads the league in interceptions thrown after tossing another on Monday against the Steelers. His 15 interceptions on the year are one more than Geno Smith has thrown for the Las Vegas Raiders this season.

Behind Tagovailoa, the Dolphins have former 2021 second overall pick of the New York Jets, Zach Wilson, as well as 2025 rookie 7th round pick Quinn Ewers at their disposal if the team does indeed decide to make a change at the quarterback position for the Dolphins’ final three games this season.

Miami Dolphins release veteran OLB Matthew Judon

gettyimages-2251068831.jpg

A short time ago, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that the Miami Dolphins would be benching starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after the team’s dreadful 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Instead of Tua at the helm, owner Stephen Ross, interim general manager Champ Kelly, and head coach Mike McDaniel will get an up-close look at what rookie QB Quinn Ewers brings to the table.

Starting Ewers, however, isn’t the only move the Dolphins made today to prepare for the future of the franchise, and the youth movement that is imminent.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins are releasing veteran pass-rusher Matthew Judon. The 33-year-old outside linebacker will now go on waivers, with the hopes of landing with a playoff contender.

— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) December 17, 2025

Judon was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He would play five years in Baltimore before signing with the New England Patriots before the 2021 NFL season.

During his time in Baltimore and New England (8 seasons), Judon started 80 of 110 games, recording 356 total tackles, 82 tackles for loss, 62.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, 14 pass breakups, and 156 QB hits. He made four Pro Bowls and was one of the NFL’s top pass-rushers.

Judon was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. He signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins worth $6 million in August 2025.

This season, Judon has started 3 out of 13 games for Miami, recording only 19 tackles (1 tackle for loss) and zero sacks.

Moving on from Judon will allow the Dolphins to get a closer look at some of the younger players, while also making it crystal clear the team needs to find EDGE rushers this offseason, something we may not have even fathomed a few years ago.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins benching Tua Tagovialoa? How do you feel about them releasing veteran pass-rusher Matthew Judon? Are you prepared FOR YET ANOTHER rebuild? Let us know in the comments section below!

Phinsider Question/Discussion Of The Day: Cincinnati Bengals @ Miami Dolphins Game Day Predictions

imagn-19185573.jpg

Well, the thing that many Miami Dolphins fans have long clamored for, the benching of starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, has finally happened. Some other fans are, of course, not happy about this change to the roster, but it would also be malpractice for the coaching staff not see what they have in rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers now that the season is lost.

Speculation about what will happen to Tua now is all over the place. Some want the team to trade him, which seems impossible given his current contract. Cutting him seems as unlikely, given that the dead money would seriously impact the team’s ability to be anything close to competitive in 2026. The likely direction is that he will be on the team next season and then cut during the following offseason.

Okay, moving on from the news of the day, and looking forward, we have our usual POTD:

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?
