Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill Reacts to Tua Tagovailoa’s Benching

gettyimages-1751101751.jpg

Yesterday was an interesting day if you’re a fan of the Miami Dolphins, or honestly, football in general.

News that head coach Mike McDaniel had officially benched Tua Tagovailoa rocked the sports world. But let’s be honest, it wasn’t necessarily a surprise.

Tua has looked like a shell of himself this season. In fact, it’s almost like he’s completely lost all confidence, and quite honestly, his love for the sport. I mean, this is the same guy who once said ‘I’m not on social media…I go home, I see my kids… whether I throw five picks, five touchdowns, we win the game, or lose the game… “ I get to come home to my kids, who are happy to see me every time.”

So maybe his recent “no regrets” attitude shouldn’t be a surprise. His benching, however, surprised a handful of folks and shocked the sports world, including star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill, known for his troll-like antics on social media, tweeted this out in the moments following the news::::

I’ll let you translate what that means on your own, but he then went a bit further, (jokingly) blaming Terron Armstead’s retirement and new life as a podcaster as the reason Miami’s once explosive offense has turned to dust.

Armstead made sure to join in on the fun, but as a Dolphins fan, no part of this is funny.

The team that once looked damn near unstoppable is three games away from being blown up. The trade for Tyreek Hill, stats aside, was a complete failure, and with every day it becomes more and more clear the Dolphins SHOULD NOT have paid their injury-prone QB.

There’s a good chance Tua and Hill have played their last games in Miami, which means Dolphins fans are once again facing a rebuild — with the hopes of finding their next Dan Marino, at the top of their Christmas wishlist.

What are your thoughts on Mike McDaniel’s decision to bench Tua Tagovailoa in favor of Quinn Ewers? Do you think Tyreek Hill’s reaction showed the cracks in his relationship with Tua? Or is this his way of saying he wants out of Miami again? Let us know in the comments section below!

Miami Dolphins Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick Ruled OUT vs. Cincinnati Bengals

gettyimages-2236185839.jpg

During his Friday press conference, Miami Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that Anthony Weaver’s defense would be without (at least) one of their top players as the team looks to right the ship on Sunday vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.

After leaving Monday Night’s dreadful 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a calf injury, the Dolphins have officially ruled out safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for this weekend’s AFC matchup vs. the Bengals.

Fitzpatrick, 29, rejoined the Dolphins this offseason after spending six years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was traded as part of the deadline deals that sent Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey to the Steel City, and since his return to the team that once drafted him 11th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, he’s been everything the team had hoped and more.

This year, Fitzpatrick has started all 14 games for Miami, recording 82 total tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, six pass breakups, and an interception. He’s been a leader on and off the field, and according to his teammates, he’s meant everything to the team.

There’s no guarantee he will return next season, but both the Dolphins and Minkah have talked glowingly about one another since their reunion this year.

Here’s what Fitzpatrick said regarding Miami’s willingness to battle before Monday Night’s game vs. Pittsburgh.

“I’m extremely proud of the way this team has stuck together,” Fitzpatrick said. “We started off not the way we wanted to. But instead of pointing fingers and separating, we all leaned more into each other. We all took accountability. We tried to figure out what each individual player could do better, and we just continued to fight.”

With Fitzpatrick out, the team will get a closer look at what rookie fifth-round pick Dante Trader Jr. can do, in addition to veteran defensive back Elijah Campbell. Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu may also line up differently in Minkah’s absence. That said, with the team eliminated from playoff contention, there’s no better time than now for some of the impending free agents and, more importantly, the younger players to get their feet wet.

McDaniel also said that linebacker Jordyn Brooks missed practice earlier in the week, but would get some work in this afternoon. His status for Sunday’s matchup vs. the Cincinnati Bengals is uncertain.

What are your thoughts on Minkah Fitzpatrick’s injury? Would you like to see him stick around in 2026 and beyond? How excited are you to see what Dante Trader Jr. can bring to the table? Are you excited to see what Quinn Ewers can do under center?!? Let us know in the comments section below!

Bengals vs. Dolphins final score: Cincinnati trounces Miami in second-half onslaught

gettyimages-2253021563.jpg

The Miami Dolphins hosted the Cincinnati Bengals in a Week 16 showdown on Sunday afternoon. They played the part of host well, basically allowing the Bengals to do whatever they wanted in the second half in route to a second-straight embarrassing loss to an AFC North team. The game was close at halftime, with the Dolphins starting with the ball, only to have multiple turnovers blow the doors off anything Miami wanted to do.

The first career start at quarterback for rookie Quinn Ewers, who replaced the benched Tua Tagovailoa, did not do anything to spark Miami’s play. Interceptions, fumbles, and turnovers on downs doomed Miami in the second half.

Below you will find our full-game recap of all the action. Reactions are in italics.

Final Score

Bengals 45 – 21 Dolphins

First Quarter

Zach Sieler shuts down Bengals opening drive

The Dolphins won the coin toss and, after weeks of takin the ball first, elected to defer to the second half. Cincinnati opened the game with the ball, convering on a 3rd-and-8 with a pass from quarterback Joe Burrow to wide receiver Jamar Chase for exactly eight yards on the third play of the drive. Facing a 3rd-and-6 three plays later, Burrow looked to pass, but Miami defensive tackle Zach Sieler cut through two offensive linemen to get to Burrow’s blindside and record a sack. The Bengals were forced to punt.

Good defensive start. Getting Sieler hot early will be a good thing for the defense. In a game with a rookie quarterback making his first start, the defense is going to have to be effective.

Dolphins punt on opening drive for Quinn Ewers

Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers entered the game as the team’s starting quarterback with head coach Mike McDaniel clearly trying to take the pressure off his seventh-round pick. Running back De’Von Achane picked up four yards on the first play, then was stopped for no gain on a pass from Ewers in the flat. On 3rd-and-6, Ewers hesitated on a couple of potential passes, then threw a jump ball as the pressure reached him, with tight end Darren Waller making a play to come down with the 22-yard pass. The drive stalled shortly thereafter, however, with a reverse run from running back Jaylen Wright picking up four yards, Achane adding another four yards, but running back Ollie Gordon II losing a yard on 3rd-and-2, leading to a punt.

The third-down pass attempt was scary, with Ewers looking like a rookie surprised by the speed of the pass rush. Waller made a great play to come up with the ball, saving his quarterback. Miami is going to run the ball all day and the Bengals defense knows it, so it will be up to the offensive line to create space for Achane, Wright, and Gordon.

Burrow dealing on second possession

Cincinnati started at their nine-yard line after a good punt from Miami’s Jake Bailey, but then Burrow laid out a go-route pass to Higgins for a 35-yard gain. An eight-yard gain on a screen pass to running back Samaje Perine was followed by a run from Perine for three yards and a first down in Miami territory. Burrow then threw to Chase on a crossing route, adding 11 more yards. Two plays later, Burrow again targeted Chase, this time finding the receiver wide open in the middle of the field for a 22-yard gain. On 1st-and-Goal from the nine-yard line, Burrow placed the ball deep in the right side of the endzone, with Higgins dragging his toes for the touchdown reception.

Burrow was on fire on that drive. Perfectly placed passes, and the receivers made great catches. Other than the 22-yard gain, the Dolphins’ defenders actually were in good positions, but the play was just better. Great drive from Cincinnati.

Bengals 7-0.

Dolphins answer immediately

Miami opened with their response with a 16-yard pass from Ewers to wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. After Achane was stopped for a one-yard gain, the running back broke through the left side of the offense for a 48-yard touchdown run.

What’s the best way to support your rookie QB making his first start?

De’Von Achane.

pic.twitter.com/XNhD3Qr0Xc

— The Phinsider (@thephinsider) December 21, 2025

The Dolphins are not afraid to have their rookie throwing the ball, but the team is going to win today if the running game can get into rhythm. That looked like it was going to find its rhythm. Well done.

Tied 7-7.

Cincinnati three-and-out ends quarter

Chase caught a screen pass for a one-yard loss to start the drive, a possession that felt completely opposite the previous Bengals drive. Perine gained three yards and a pass from Burrow to Chase added six yards. After the quarter break, the Bengals punted on a three-and-out.

Good response from the defense after the touchdown drive from Cincinnati on the last possession.

Second Quarter

Waller converts first down before Miami forced to punt

The Dolphins started with a four-yard gain from Achane before an incomplete pass set up 3rd-and-6. Ewers looked to Waller on an out route, with the tight end making a contested catch short of the sticks, but fighting his way forward and reaching out the ball to convert for the first down. Ewers looked down field, but had to check down to Waddle for a one-yard gain on the next play, then a three-yard run from Wright and an incomplete pass led to a Miami punt.

Waller is doing what he can to help out his quarterback. Two targets, two catches, 29 yards and two first downs, both on contested catches that he fought to make. The drive could not be sustained, but the Dolphins have Ewers 6-for-8 for 57 yards so far today; if they can keep that up, they could have a good day.

Bengals drive stalls as Burrow sacked again

After a false start, Burrow took charge of the offense, running for five yards before throwing two passes for a combined 30 yards. After running back Chase Brown picked up seven yards, moving past midfield, Burrow found Perine for eight yards and a first down. Two plays later, Burrow threw to former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki for an 11-yard gain. A one-yard pass to Chase, a combined sack from linebacker Chop Robinson and defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, and an incomplete pass led to a 45-yard field goal.

The Dolphins’ defense is settling in and playing a bend-don’t-break style right now. They are making the plays when they are there, and they are not making big mistakes. They just need to keep the scoring low so the offense does not feel the pressure of needing Ewers to throw on every play.

Dolphins take lead as Ewers continues hot start

After Achane only gained a yard on first down, Ewers went back to Waller, connecting with the tight end for an 11-yard gain. Achane then ran for three yards before a play-action pass to Waddle on a dagger route picked up 19 yards, with fullback Alec Ingold jumping on the ball as it was stripped from the receiver in the tackle. On the first down, Ewers looked to Waddle again, this time gaining 21 yards to move the ball to the 13-yard line. After an Achane run for three yards, Miami faked the handoff to the running back, with wide receiver Malik Washington taking a flip from Ewers on an endaround and scoring from 10-yards out.

Or, just let Ewers throw the ball. He is making good decisions and finding open receivers. The running game is clearly taking the pressure off of him, while Waller and Waddle are making plays when given the chance. Ewers is 9-for-11 for 105 yards so far today. Nice play design on the endaround, with everyone looking like they were running left, leaving Washington and center Aaron Brewer running to the right for the score.

Dolphins 14-10.

Cincinnati responds to retake lead

The Bengals regained possession, looking to respond to Miami’s scoring drive. After a 41-yard kick return, Burrow threw to Gesicki for seven yards. Two incomplete passes set up 3rd-and-10, with the Dolphins’ pass rush appearing to get to Burrow, only to have the quarterback somehow find tight end Drew Sample in a mess of player, and the tight end turn a loss into a 27-yard gain. After am facemask penalty on the Dolphins, Perine finished the drive with a two-yard run for the score.

The Bengals took exactly one minute to respond to the Dolphins’ score. Can the Miami offense use the 1:24 remaining in the half to score, then double up on the other side of the half?

Dolphins cannot get back into gear

The Dolphins opened the drive with a pass play, but Ewers was forced to run for a five-yard scramble. After Achane picked up four yards, Miami again looked to run the ball, but the running back was stuffed for a four-yard loss, leading to a three-and-out punt.

Not exactly the answering drive, or set up for a double-up around halftime, the Dolphins would have wanted, but the punt was perfect and Miami should leave the half trailing by just three points.

Bengals run out clock

After having called a timeout hoping to be able to put together a scoring drive with about 40 seconds remaining in the half, Bailey’s punt hit at the five-yard line and immediately checked up, starting Cincinnati at their four-yard line. After a run from Brown for six yards, the Bengals elected to let the clock run out.

Perfectly done punt by Bailey. Now Miami needs to regain the lead to start the second half.

Halftime Stats

Halftime stats:

The Dolphins have played well, especially with a rookie quarterback making his first start. Ewers is throwing the ball well, and they are not trying to force anything. The running game will continue to be the key to the team’s success today.

The defense needs to continue to step up in the second half. Getting more pressure on Burrow will be critical to slowing down the Cincinnati attack in the second half.

Third Quarter

Dolphins get hosed by refs to open second half

Achane picked up six yards on two carries to open the drive, then picked up 31 yards on a screen pass, only to have the referees flag Miami wide receiver Theo Wease for offensive pass interference. The Bengals defender clearly ran into Wease, who was moving out of the way, and it should never have been flagged, but the play was negated. On a 3rd-and-14 pass, tight end Greg Dulcich caught the pass, but fumbled and Cincinnati recovered the loose ball.

What a miserable pair of plays for the Dolphins. That offensive pass interference penalty was ridiculous. Dulcich just never fully secured the ball and was hit right on it on the third-down play. Just rough start to the half.

Bengals make Miami pay for turnover

Starting at the Dolphins’ 34-yard line, Cincinnati looked to extend their lead after the turnover. Burrow threw to sample for four yards to start the possession, then Brown picked up five yards. After no gain on third down, Burrow ran a tush-push to convert on 4th-and-1, then threw to Chase for 15 yards. On the next play, a screen pass turned into a nine-yard touchdown from Brown.

Ouch. What a series of plays. This game quickly went from Miami potentially doubling up around half time to a 10-point lead for the Bengals.

Bengals 24-14.

Dolphins give ball to Bengals again

The Dolphins opened with two incomplete passes before Ewers looked deep to Wease, but the receiver could not pull in the ball, with it flying straight up and being intercepted.

This is starting to feel like last week, when Miami was in the game in the first half, only to watch it all quickly fall apart.

Bengals make Miami pay for turnover again

Two Miami possessions. Two turnovers. Two Bengals possessions. Two touchdowns. Starting at the Dolphins’ 35-yard line, Cincinnati turned to Brown, who caught a pass and turned it into a 23-yard gain before he ran for the 12-yard score.

This is quickly getting out of hand. The Dolphins need to calm down and get back to what was working. They cannot turn this into a passing-only shootout, even down 17. Take the pressure off Ewers to regain their rhythm.

Bengals 31-14.

Miami turnover on downs completes trifecta of giveaways

Wright gained a yard on the first play of the drive, then turned a screen pass into an 18-yard gain. After Eskridge picked up two yards, an incomplete pass and a seven-yard gain on a pass to Dulcich, set up a 4th-and-1. Ewers attempted to make the conversion with a quarterback sneak, but his foot slipped on the midfield paint and, after a virtual measurement, he came up 10 inches short.

Miami turned the ball over on downs, making their three possessions of the second half end with the ball in the Bengals’ hands. The Dolphins have to get back into rhythm, but time is starting to run down – and the Bengals are in position to extend the lead even more.

Bengals continue onslaught

Brown continued to dominate in the third quarter, starting with five rushing yards on the first two plays before Burrow to Chase turned into a 36-yard gain. Brown then added another five yards before catching a pass for the five-yard touchdown.

This game went from Miami hanging with the Bengals to a complete blowout. That is three touchdowns in the quarter for Cincinnati, while Miami has 44 yards in the half. The Dolphins are completely out of their depth at this point.

Bengals 38-14

Dolphins get one play

Ewers looked deep toward Waddle on the first play, only to have the pass picked off.

Fumble. Pick. Turnover on downs. Pick. What a quarter for the Miami offense.

Fourth Quarter

Gesicki gets in on the Bengals scoring

The drive started in the third quarter, but the Bengals slowed down their attack, running the 2:12 remaining int the quarter with a pass to Brown for six yards, then three runs split between Brown and Perine to move to the Miami 21-yard line. Three plays into the fourth period, Burrow found Gesicki for the 17-yard score, with the tight end clearly enjoying scoring back in Miami.

Gesicki did his version of the “griddy” and enjoyed the moment of scoring back where the was originally drafted. The Bengals have jumped out to a 45-14 lead after having a 17-14 lead at halftime. This is just flat out ugly.

Dolphins successfully punt the ball

Miami opened with a one-yard loss on a run from Wright, then Achane gained six yards. After a false start on the Dolphins, Ewers threw to Achane for five yards before the Dolphins punted.

At this point, a punt is a successful drive for Miami. This half has been ugly, and the Dolphins holding on to the ball for a three-and-out is a win.

Bengals pull starters

Cincinnati started pulling out their starters, including Joe Flacco replacing Joe Burrow at quarterback. The Bengals picked up six yards before punting on the three-and-out possession.

Not only is this game out of hand, but it is so out of hand that the Bengals will play most of the fourth quarter with their backups. Completely embarrassing.

Miami finds endzone once game out of reach

The Dolphins started at their three-yard line. Ewers was able to move the team down the field, throwing passes to Dulcich, Ingold, Waddle, and Washington while Achane and Wright worked on the ground. The nine-play drive covered all 97 yards in 5:27, ending with Wright carrying the ball the final three yards for the score.

Just like last week, when the Dolphins lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football, Miami was able to put up a late touchdown to make an embarrassing loss a little closer – but still just as embarrassing.

Bengals 45-24

Bengals work clock before punting

Cincinnati just looked to run the clock after Miami’s score. Three carries only gained six yards, but the Bengals were able to take off nearly two minutes of play time.

It is not like Miami’s defense is doing anything special now. The Bengals have clearly taken their foot off the gas and are just trying to get out of South Florida now.

Dolphins use last drive to keep Ewers throwing, gaining experience

With the game effectively over, the Dolphins continued to try to work with Ewers and keep adding to his experience. Another good punt started Miami at their four-yard line, with Ewers throwing the ball multiple times to get out near midfield, but letting the clock run to end the game.

The final seconds ticking off the clock are the best thing that Miami could see at this point.

James Daniels to miss remainder of Miami Dolphins season

gettyimages-2229950114.jpg

With just two games to go in the 2025 regular season for the Miami Dolphins, one player who hasn’t been seen in awhile has been confirmed to miss the remainder of the year for the South Florida franchise.

During Monday’s availability with local media, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel conveyed that offensive lineman James Daniels will miss the rest of the season after being placed on injured reserve due to a pectoral injury suffered during the team’s week one loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Daniels signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Dolphins ahead of the 2025 season — Miami’s largest contract handed out to a free-agent during this past signing period. However, due to the injury he suffered against the Colts, Daniels played just three offensive snaps for the Dolphins this year.

When asked if he would like Daniels back with the club if he were to remain the team’s head coach in 2026, McDaniel declined to comment, citing his policy of not discussing 2026 with games remaining for the Dolphins in 2025.

Daniels will turn 29-years-old in early September of next year, but has an extensive injury history during his 8-year NFL career. Last season, Daniels played in only four games for the Pittsburgh Steelers before tearing his Achilles and being placed on injured reserve.

Add Daniels’ status to the long list of offseason decisions that general manager Champ Kelly — or whoever is hired to replace him — will have to make before the team takes the field for meaningful football games next fall.

Miami Dolphins odds: Week 17 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers spread set

gettyimages-2253158616.jpg

The Miami Dolphins fell to 6-9 last week when they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in yet another embarrassing performance. This year has been anything but productive for Miami, who, despite a four-game win streak in the middle of the year, have struggled to look competitive for much of the year. The third quarter continues to be the bane of the team, and they have not looked like a team that can stand up and go toe-to-toe with many other clubs this year.

On Sunday, they will have another chance to put a good performance on tape – too late for it to count for anything other than pride, but at least end their home schedule for the year with a positive feeling. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-8) head down I-75 in Week 17 to visit the Dolphins, bringing with them hopes of reclaiming the lead in the NFC South division title race.

The oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook think the Buccaneers will leave Miami with a .500 record. Tampa Bay is favored by 5.5 points early this week. They are -245 on the moneyline for the straight-up win, while the Dolphins are +200 to come away with the upset. The point total is 45.5.

Miami looked completely outmatched in Week 15. They, like Cincinnati, are simply playing for pride now, but how much pride is left in the team?

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.

Phinsider Question/Discussion Of The Day: TB Buccaneers @ Miami Dolphins Game Day Predictions

gettyimages-2168133483.jpg

Well, new starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, as the announcers harped on, did not, in fact, look out of place on the field. That being said, Ewers could not do enough to pull out a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He, though, may be a good fit as a long-term backup QB, with a lot more offseason work, which in itself would be a win. At this point any win among the losses is welcome. Well, moving on to the next challenge, as the cross-state rival, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are coming to town this coming weekend. The Bucs have struggled lately, losing three consecutive divisional matchups. So with that in mind, we have our usual game predictions post of the week:

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?

Five Things I Think I Think About the Miami Dolphins – Week 16

imagn-27866091.jpg

This is the time of year where I’d rather be watching A Christmas Story on repeat than suffering through a meaningless Dolphins game.

Alas.

Those are the only types of games we have.

Ho.

Ho.

Ho.

How mighty was Quinn?

Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers got his first NFL start on Sunday, leading the 6-8 Miami Dolphins at home against the 4-10 Cincinnati Bengals.

So?

How did he do?

About as well as a rookie in his first NFL start.

Ewers finished the day 20/30 (66%) for 260 yds, 0 TDs, and 2 INTs.

Now, sure; the final score was pitiable. But, there was a drive derailed by a bad OPI call, then a fumble, an INT, and a failed 4th down conversion, all in a row, all leading to Bengals touchdowns.

None of that was really on Ewers.

The second interception immediately afterward was. But, hey. Who cares?

Ewers had a lot of college experience and success. I have to say, over a one game NFL sample size, he looks comfortable in the pocket: No happy feet and no panic around pressure. So, that’s cool.

He doesn’t share a lot of traits with Tua (in the sense that Ewers feels like more of a traditional pocket passer not inexorably tied to timing routes and quick release plays), so to see him in MM’s offense is fascinating.

One perspective is that the game plan should lean on the run and not ask too much of a rookie in his debut. The other is that it should call for plays that attempt to instill confidence in him (even if it’s halfway pretend) by letting him rip it since you literally have nothing to lose.

MM’s game plan kinda did a little bit of both. The team had 28 carries to 30 pass attempts, so they were well balanced, but let the guy just huck it downfield once in a while. At least it’d make it more fun to watch.

In the end, it didn’t matter whatsoever because the Dolphins love to completely melt down in the 3rd quarter of games, rendering any possible assessment of Ewers’ ability somewhat moot.

And boy, do the Fins love to be moot.

Defense without Minkah was heinous

It’s true: Minkah’s absence wasn’t the only reason the defense was unpalatable.

They managed to be wholly unpretty in every which way, to the tune of surrendering 309 passing yards, 4 pass TDs, 105 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, and 45 (!) points.

Despite their record, the Bengals have some elite pass catchers (even if they push off harder than anyone in the league), so it’s a tall task to defend them all. But the Dolphins’ D really failed to live up to it.

Safety is a major position of need, to me. Ashtyn Davis isn’t good, Ifeatu Melifonwu isn’t good, and Dante Trader is the worst of the young guns so far.

Speaking of young guns, I can at least try to slap some Maybelline on this Wilbur: Miami has some youth that could maybe be kind of somewhat okay in the future?

The three new rookie DTs are improving, Chop Robinson is young and seems to wake up a little as each season gets toward the end (though it’d be nice if he’d start earlier than, say, Week 10), and some depth guys like Jason Marshall, Cameron Goode, and Quinton Bell pop up from time to time.

I don’t know, man.

This game ended with Joe Flacco at quarterback in garbage time. I’m just trying to hunt for a speck of cheer around the holidays.

Maybe some young offensive players have potential

I’ll just keep this wild goose chase going.

I mean, Achane is elite. He made the Pro Bowl, which no one who knows anything about anything cares about, other than in the hopes that it makes him feel good about himself because he deserves to feel good about himself. He’s electric every time he touches the ball. He’s the sole source of sustained success for Miami’s offense, which is, counterintuitively, something I wish they’d stop leaning on immediately.

This season is done. Don’t get him hurt, Mike. Mmmmkay?

Apart from Achane, fellow runners Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon have shown flashes of competence. Jaylen Waddle is still young and aspiring. Jonah Savaiinaea has nowhere to go but up, where he has slowly started to head. Julian Hill is growing into his role more effectively than he did as a rookie and I’ll even shout out first time NFL wide receiver Theo Wease because, though he bobbled a drop that became an interception, he served as a comfort target for Ewers due to their familiarity with one another on the practice team and he was the one called for a totally nonsensical OPI that began the Dolphins’ demise.

Again, it’s almost the New Year. So whatever teensy weensy shred of hope I can glom onto, glom I shall.

I wish Mike Gesicki was still in Miami

I don’t care that he doesn’t block. I don’t care that he isn’t a superstar. I just love the guy.

Weekly Overreaction: Miami should invest in two new quarterbacks

It’s called an overreaction for a reason.

I use the word ‘invest’ specifically because I don’t mean drafting a guy on Day 3 and signing a league minimum veteran Free Agent. I mean using one early round draft pick and then maybe another. Or orchestrating a trade of Tua (good luck; I get it) that brings in someone with a track record and at least some remaining upside. Or mortgaging the future on some outlandish Draft Day swap.

I don’t know the specifics. It’s not my job. It’s currently not anyone’s permanent job, really.

I suspect Miami will have a new GM next season that isn’t the present interim GM (not that I have enough knowledge to form an opinion on whether that’d be a good thing or not) and that GM will need to fix the quarterback situation right quick.

Ewers looked as good as I expected. He had poise in the pocket, he handled the offense with confidence, and he seemed at least likely to hang on as a backup, worst case.

That doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t take two swings at solving the issue for the long term.

People that say ‘If you have two quarterbacks, you have none’ are picturing a situation with Marcus Mariota and Carson Wentz. If you have Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, you have one superstar and one unrealized gain of a boatload of draft picks.

Sign me up right this millisecond.

That’s what I want under the Dolphins proverbial Christmas tree.

Get to it, Kringle.

What would you like Santa to bring you this year? An oil drum in which to start a jersey fire? A rock with which to smash the TV? Open box after box of sadness in the comments below.

Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Miami Dolphins Game Predictions

gettyimages-2168133957.jpg

Last night I asked our usual weekly predictions question before a game, and as I suspected, it was the slowest response I have gotten in a while. With the holiday and the way the team has played this season, it’s no surprise. We won’t have as many responses as usual, but we will highlight the ones we did get. If you missed the initial post, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?

Below is our meager selection of comments and thoughts on the PQOTD-

Jptapt is only concerned with the third. Maybe that take makes it only 1/4 as painful when the team loses.

The third quarter will suck?

Alpha6 has a comprehensive list of wishes. If there is a Santa for old dudes, maybe he’s listening.

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Achane 110yds, 2 TDs

Ewers 290yds, 1 TD, 1 interception

Waller 87yds, 1 TD

Final score?

Bucs 38, Dolphins 🐬 28

MVP of the game?

TE Waller

Other bold predictions?

Defense: 3 sacks, 1 interception, gives up 120 yds ground… 310 air

NeenerWhacker should probably stop doing that to their neener, and has the Dolphins predictably losing.

Hungry dogs run faster, Bucs are playing for the division still.

This is a typical phins late season, meaningless game. Baker, who has struggled as of late will throw for 3tds. Dolphins 13, Bucs 24

MiamiItaliano has Miami hanging in there, but dropping the game to a team that still has something to play for.

Bucs pass defense isn’t much better than the Bengals. I expect Ewers to improve and learn from last week. Bucs need this game though. I’m hoping for a high scoring game that shows Ewers really wants the QB1 job. Dolphins defense is mentally checked out and lose the game.

Dolphins 28

Bucs 35

The Miami Ute has Miami showing how much they suck at halftime adjustments.

Blowout in the Bucs’ favor. Like always, the game will remain close in the first half but then the Bucs will make the necessary adjustments and run away in the second half.

Molly Polly II has Miami getting blown out while hoping that Ross is paying attention to how many of us are already over this season.

Bucs 41, Finz 17.

MVP: any fan who attends the game (hey Ross, you might take a good look at how many empty seats during the game). 🫣

Bold prediction: NonMagic Mike continues to display many reasons why he should start packing up his office!

Well, that’s our short list for this evening. Thank you to each of you who took the time to answer our PQOTD. Please join us tomorrow for our live game thread. Merry Christmas to everyone!

What is Tua Tagovailoa’s future – The Splash Zone 12/26/25

gettyimages-2252111211.jpg

new_splash_zone.jpg

Quinn Ewers is the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, while Tua Tagovailoa sits on the bench. Many expected the benching, but it was shocking to see since the Dolphins have committed so much money towards Tua. This offseason is going to be all about change, starting at general manager. The team needs a new one and search will begin right after the Dolphins week 18 game against the New England Patriots. From there, whoever is in charge will make the decision on what to do with Tua. Does the team just release him and take a huge salary cap hit, do they try to trade him for the bare minimum, or maybe he’ll just be back next season and ride the bench with a bag full of money.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

NFL execs on Tua Tagovailoa’s future, Dolphins’ next moves
The afternoon of Friday, July 26, 2024, came alive with a big splash: the latest NFL quarterback megadeal. For the Miami Dolphins, the news held a deeper meaning that money couldn’t quantify.

Could Dolphins make draft day trade to secure new franchise quarterback?

gettyimages-2250443397.jpg

The Miami Dolphins seem poised to move on from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this offseason, and if those ever-growing rumblings come to fruition, the once-storied South Florida franchise will need a new signal-caller in short order.

Recently, talks of Miami potentially acquiring Baltimore Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson, have surfaced thanks to a speculative article from Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun. Jackson, a Pompano Beach native, “would love to play in Miami,” according to Preston. However, with the Dolphins as cash strapped as they will be once the team parts with Tagovailoa, a cheaper option at the position may afford the team more success in future years.

Successful rookie quarterbacks can often help a team retool quickly, allowing bigger money to be spent on surrounding the youngster with talented teammates in order to expedite the growth process. There just so happens to be one quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft who could be the right option for the Dolphins — and if things play out the way one recent mock draft predicts they will, that passer could be wearing aqua and orange very soon.

Fernando Mendoza — the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback for the Indiana Hoosiers — will be the first quarterback taken in the upcoming draft, and earlier this week, Pro Football Focus released a mock in which the Dolphins made a trade with the New York Giants to acquire the first overall pick in 2026 in order to select him.

The best part?

Miami didn’t have to pay too steep of a price to make the deal happen.

In the fictitious scenario, Miami sends New York the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the 44th pick in 2026, plus a 2027 first round pick and a 2027 second round pick to acquire the first pick in the upcoming draft. That pick is then used to bring Mendoza’s talent to Miami Gardens.

Here was PFF’s reasoning for the deal:

With Tua Tagovailoa benched ahead of the Dolphins’ Week 16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, it’s obvious that Miami is in the market for a new quarterback. In this mock draft, they get aggressive to move up for one.

Mendoza recorded a 6.2% big-time throw rate and a 2.3% turnover-worthy play rate this season, which compares well with recent No. 1 overall picks Cam Ward (6.3%, 3.3%) and Caleb Williams (6.2%, 3.6%).

Mendoza has been compared to Matt Ryan as a quarterback — which is interesting, because Ryan took the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl with Mike McDaniel as an offensive assistant with the club at the conclusion of the 2016 NFL season. Of course, if the two were to be paired up in Miami, McDaniel would have to keep his job after a disastrous 2025 season as head coach of the Dolphins.

___

So, what do you think? Should the Dolphins pull the trigger on this hypothetical trade and send two first round picks, plus two second round picks in order to acquire the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft? Should Fernando Mendoza be pegged as the next potential savior of the franchise? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter at @MBrave13! Fins up!
