Clippers Coach Gets Honest About Crucial Second-Half Lineup Change On Thursday

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue had some difficult choices to make during Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.

He has a list of talented players on his roster, but not all of them can get minutes during every single game.

On Thursday, he elected to play “small ball” against the Nuggets, and it is one of the reasons why the Clippers beat them 111-105.

Following the game, he spoke with ESPN about why he chose the route and how it paid off.

“When we went small with that shooting lineup, we were able to break the game open a little bit,” Lue said. “That gave James and Kawhi more spacing and they were able to attack more.”

In the second half of the game, Lue chose to play Nicolas Batum instead of Kris Dunn.

Dunn is more focused on defense, but it was clear that the Nuggets had figured him out and weren’t too worried about him.

Lue felt that Batum would be a better fit for what the Clippers were trying to do, and he was right.

Instead of attempting to intimidate with size, Lue’s Clippers went with a more offense-focused lineup, one that was smaller but more effective.

After the game, he thanked some of the players who had to sit on the bench because of his roster choices.

This is exactly what is needed during the playoffs: coaches have to make adjustments on the fly, and they sometimes favor one player over another.

It can lead to stars missing minutes and even full games.

But it is all for the good of the team and enhances their chances of winning.

Lue obviously made the right choices on Thursday, and now he will try to do it again for Game 7.

Tyronn Lue Reveals What He Did To Prepare Clippers For Game 6

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Clippers - Game Six

The Los Angeles Clippers needed to win their Thursday night game against the Denver Nuggets, or else their season would be over.

That meant everyone, from the players to the coaches to the fans, would need to be tuned in and ready to give 100 percent.

That’s exactly what happened.

Following LA’s 111-105 win, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about getting his players in the right headspace for the game.

“I had a lot of phone calls,” Lue said. “A lot of phone calls. Just talking to the guys, being positive. Making sure they understood that we didn’t play our best [in Game 5] and our attention to detail wasn’t good.”

Instead of sending a text or an email to everyone, Lue made sure to reach out to each of his stars and get them all on the same page.

It was important for him to reiterate that they didn’t play their best in Game 5, and another performance like that would cost them the series and the season.

No one knows the specifics of what Lue said to his squad, but it obviously worked because several stars came out swinging in Game 6.

James Harden led the way with 28 points, six rebounds, and 8 assists.

Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard was right behind him with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, while Norman Powell put up 24 points.

Now the series is tied 3-3, but the final game of the series will be held in Denver.

That will be LA’s toughest match yet, and everything is on the line.

But Game 6 was proof to everyone that the Clippers can bounce back after a bad performance and find their footing again.

Will it provide motivation for a must-win Game 7?

Clippers Executive Reveals Update About James Harden’s Future

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Clippers - Game Three

James Harden and his Los Angeles Clippers didn’t get far in the playoffs, but they still enjoyed their most successful season together.

What’s next for Harden and his team?

Speaking with ESPN, president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank made it clear that he wants Harden to pick up his player option this summer.

“We have a great level of appreciation for what James did this year,” Frank said. “I’m going in with the intent that if he doesn’t pick up his option that we’re going to be able to reach an agreement that works well for James and works well for the Clippers.”

There is a possibility, of course, that Harden elects not to take his player option and try his chances with free agency.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Harden left a team, even when it was doing well.

But Harden seems to be a good fit with Los Angeles, and the team clearly wants him to stick around.

Fans shouldn’t be too frightened if they see headlines of Harden saying no to his player option.

That just means the Clippers and Harden’s management team have to hash out a new deal and see eye-to-eye about their future.

It may require some negotiating, but there is a very good chance that Harden will be back with the Clippers next season, no matter what happens with his player option.

It is important to note that the Clippers have the oldest roster in the NBA, and they need to be thinking of their future.

They want Harden to remain, but they also cannot pay too much or give up all of their future prospects and options to get him.

Both sides will have to be smart and strategic to get what they want.

Western Conference Team Named As ‘Dark Horse’ In Kevin Durant Trade Talks

Phoenix Suns v Brooklyn Nets

(Photo by Kent J. Edwards/Getty Images)

Kevin Durant has been among the most talked-about players in the NBA over the past few years.

When he’s at his best, he is one of the best athletes in the league, and some say he’s among the best players the league has ever seen.

While his on-court play is spectacular for the most part, Durant hasn’t been the happiest with his teams throughout the years.

His discontent with the Phoenix Suns is evident, and both sides have been trying to mend the situation for several months.

Ideally, Durant would join a contender, a team that he feels he could win a ring with, and the Suns could get a haul of picks and players in a potential deal.

Who that trade partner might be remains to be seen, and to this point, several candidates have popped up.

One interesting team that he could land with is the Los Angeles Clippers, as John Gambadoro noted via NBA Central on X.

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) June 5, 2025

The Clippers showed some promise during the regular season and playoffs, but they fell short of their goal of making it to the NBA Finals.

A player like Durant could certainly help them get to the next level, adding a veteran player with plenty of experience.

It will be difficult for any new team to break through in the 2025-2026 season, with plenty of Western Conference teams having strong rosters.

Durant is certainly on a short list of players who could help take a team from good to great in a hurry, instantly making his next team one to watch moving forward.

LaVar Ball Reveals How Clippers Can Win A Title

(Photo by Sean M. Haffey/BIG3/Getty Images)

The Charlotte Hornets continue to stand by their franchise cornerstone despite mounting pressure to trade LaMelo Ball to a playoff contender.

While trade speculation swirls around the talented point guard, the organization shows no signs of wavering in its commitment to building around him.

LaVar Ball has inserted himself back into the conversation surrounding his son’s future.

He recently took to Instagram with a message that started as indifference but quickly shifted into a direct appeal to one specific franchise.

“All you fans who want a championship back in L.A…YES! Whole new arena with the Ball boys? You’re going to want to come and watch that show. But if you want a championship, (Steve) Ballmer, I’m talking to you…go get them Ball boys and let’s ball!” LaVar Ball said.
LaVar Ball continues to push for the LA Clippers to “quit playing” and trade for LaMelo Ball:

“The Clippers! Bring those god damn Ball boys home and let’s go get this championship and quit messing around. All you fans who want a championship back in LA. Yes! Whole new arena with… pic.twitter.com/LHOWyts6G2

— APHoops (@APH00PS) June 16, 2025

The elder Ball’s pitch to the Los Angeles Clippers isn’t his first public campaign for reuniting his sons in Los Angeles.

His vision of all three Ball brothers playing together remains a persistent theme in his media appearances.

However, the logistics present significant challenges.

While Lonzo Ball could serve as a valuable backup point guard for the Clippers, fitting LaMelo alongside James Harden creates obvious complications. Both players need the ball in their hands to maximize their effectiveness.

The injury concerns surrounding both Ball brothers add another layer of risk to any potential move.

LaMelo’s availability has been his greatest obstacle throughout five NBA seasons.

Each missed game reinforces questions about his long-term durability.

Charlotte faces a delicate timing situation with their star player.

LaMelo’s trade value remains high, but continued injury problems could erode his market value.

Many believe the Hornets should capitalize on his current value rather than risk further depreciation.

Odds Show Betting Favorite To Land Ben Simmons

When Ben Simmons came into the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers rejoiced.

He was supposed to be the answer to many of their problems, a player some heralded as a can’t-miss prospect.

After missing the entirety of his first season with an injury, Simmons came back with a vengeance, winning Rookie of the Year and silencing the doubters who spoke ill of him while he was injured.

Fans believed this was the start of something great for the 76ers, but it only took a few seasons for things to unravel.

Simmons’ time in the spotlight faded rather quickly, and after just four seasons, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Things didn’t pick up for him there, and after a few years, he made his way to the Los Angeles Clippers this season, where he wasn’t necessarily a strong scoring contributor, but he did add value to the roster.

With that in mind, odds seem to indicate that Simmons will re-sign with the Clippers, as Bovada Sportsbook has him at +375 to return, via NBA Central on X.

Odds on Ben Simmons’ next chapter:

Los Angeles Clippers (+375)
Cleveland Cavaliers (+475)
Sports media / broadcasting (+550)

Houston Rockets (+700)

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) June 18, 2025

The Cleveland Cavaliers have the next best odds at +475, but things get interesting after that.

Three of the next four destinations for Simmons aren’t NBA teams, but rather alternate careers that would seemingly end his basketball career.

Simmons hasn’t publicly said he’s looking to get away from the game, but betting odds can sometimes dictate what’s happening behind the scenes.

This will be a situation to monitor moving forward, especially for NBA fans who are interested to see where he’ll end up.

James Harden Reportedly Played ‘Key Role’ In Recruiting New Wing

Los Angeles Clippers v Golden State Warriors

The Los Angeles Clippers will start 2025-26 with more support, thanks to the addition of Bradley Beal.

Beal’s last few seasons have been rough, but he is still a valued player and was wanted by one particular Clippers star.

According to Shams Charania, per Evan Sidery, James Harden “played a key role” in the recruitment of Beal.

“Harden spoke directly to Beal emphasizing their fit, which helped sway his decision to become their starting shooting guard,” Sidery wrote.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) July 16, 2025

Beal is leaving one Western Conference team for another, but he is hoping that the Clippers do much better than the Phoenix Suns ever did.

Harden might be happy to have Beal on board, but some fans have concerns about how he will fit in the lineup.

After all, Beal just played with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, and that big three wasn’t able to even make the playoffs last season.

Will working with Harden and Kawhi Leonard lead to better results?

Because of his lackluster time with the Suns, some people forget that Beal is a supremely talented player.

Perhaps now that he is leaving a bad environment in Phoenix, he will produce better results.

When Harden came to the Clippers, there were a ton of worries that he wouldn’t be happy and would eventually demand a trade, just like he did with the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers.

But he seems completely at home in Los Angeles and is obviously attempting to make the team better.

He believes in Beal and, more importantly, wants to see his Clippers succeed.

Insider Reveals Major Concern About Clippers In 2027

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Clippers - Game Three

Like every other team in the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers want to win a championship as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, they could run into roster problems in the next few years that might get in the way of their goal.

According to Evan Sidery, the Clippers are currently projected to have only three players under contract in 2027.

Those players are Ivica Zubac, Yanic Konan Niederhauser, and Cam Christie.

That means they could be losing most of their stars within the next two years, which could dash any hopes of becoming champions.

The Clippers are currently projected to have only three players under contract in 2027:

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) July 16, 2025

Although this isn’t good news, it ignores the fact that many of the stars playing for the Clippers could sign new deals before 2027.

There is a very good chance that James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal, and others are back in a few years.

But how much will the Clippers have to spend?

With tax luxury and apron rules, is it even possible to retain all of those stars?

Plus, they are all growing older, which means they may not be as productive in a couple of seasons.

The bottom line is that the Clippers are on a ticking clock, and they need to make the most of the present because they do not know what the future holds.

They are not the only team in this position, of course, but the pressure is even more intense on this group.

They have a strong squad now, but the Western Conference is incredibly difficult, injuries are always an issue, and time is of the essence.

How will the Clippers look in 2027, and what will their championship chances be like?

Bill Simmons Sounds Off About Bradley Beal’s Role With Clippers

Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets

(Photo by Tyler McFarland/Clarkson Creative/Getty Images)

Bradley Beal is now a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, and fans are hoping he finds more success with them than he did with the Phoenix Suns.

Although some people are optimistic about this signing, others aren’t sure how it’ll work out.

Writing on social media, Bill Simmons questioned how things will go for Beal in Los Angeles after his troubled tenure with the Suns.

“So things went south with Beal in Phoenix because he resented being a role player/supporting guy to KD/Book and not having the ball enough… but now he’s happy being a role player/supporting guy to Harden/Kawhi and not having the ball enough? Sorry just trying to keep up.” Simmons posted on X.
So things went south with Beal in Phoenix because he resented being a role player/supporting guy to KD/Book and not having the ball enough… but now he’s happy being a role player/supporting guy to Harden/Kawhi and not having the ball enough? Sorry just trying to keep up.

— Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) July 16, 2025

Simmons raises a fair point: Beal was reportedly unhappy being a supporting player for Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in Phoenix, so why will he be okay with the same sort of position with James Harden and Kawhi Leonard?

It’s a valid question and one that Beal will have to address in the months ahead.

There is a lot of potential upside to signing Beal because he’s a talented and experienced star when he can stay healthy.

But he had a tough time adjusting to not being his team’s first option.

After years of running his own squad, he had to settle for being the third option behind Durant and Booker, and that didn’t go very well.

Now he will be tasked with that again, this time with two stars who arguably handle the ball even more than Booker and Durant.

Just because he’s an impressive player doesn’t mean Beal will be a great fit in Los Angeles.

Simmons and others have every reason to question how this is going to work out, given Beal’s recent history.

Latest Odds Show Encouraging Trend For Clippers After New Signing

Los Angeles Clippers v Phoenix Suns

The Los Angeles Clippers made their biggest move of the offseason on Wednesday when they acquired Bradley Beal.

Beal is an accomplished and talented basketball player, but how much does he improve the team’s chance of winning a championship?

According to Bovada, the Clippers’ odds to win the Western Conference bumped up a bit on Wednesday, although they are still a long way from being favorites.

When it comes to winning a championship, their odds went from +2800 to +2400.

Their odds to win the conference improved from +1600 to +1400, and their chances of winning the division went from +225 to +170.

— Bovada (@BovadaOfficial) July 16, 2025

There is no doubt that Beal could improve the team’s chances if he remains healthy.

But there is also no doubt that the Western Conference hasn’t been this stacked in years.

The competition to make it out of the West has never been harder, so the Clippers have their work cut out for them, no matter how healthy and proactive Beal is.

Beal is moving the needle, but not by a lot.

No one doubts that the Clippers have several talented stars, but they will still be held back by the level of competition around them and their troubling history with injuries.

Yes, they stayed healthy last season, but that doesn’t mean the same will be true in 2025-26.

Beal himself has had bad luck getting hurt over the last few seasons, and some fans are worried that could happen again in Los Angeles.

He looks like a smart pick-up who will give the Clippers more depth and experience, but Beal probably isn’t the key to a title.

Rachel Nichols Believes Clippers Made A ‘Promising Move’

Atlanta Hawks v Los Angeles Clippers

Did the Los Angeles Clippers just make a move that turns them into favorites in the Western Conference?

The team acquired Bradley Beal on Wednesday after weeks of speculation about the three-time All-Star.

Writing on X, Rachel Nichols praised LA’s move and thinks that Beal might shine if he’s in the “right environment.”

“Love this for Bradley Beal, whose oversized salary and no-trade clause have overshadowed the fact that he is still a very good basketball player who could really shine in the right environment with the right role. And I love this for the Clippers, who are building one of the more interesting win-now teams in the West. Obviously their future *always* depends on Kawhi’s health (and now Beal’s too), but it’s as promising a move as they could have made,” Nichols posted on X.
Love this for Bradley Beal, whose oversized salary and no-trade clause have overshadowed the fact that he is still a very good basketball player who could really shine in the right environment with the right role. And I love this for the Clippers, who are building one of the more…

— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) July 16, 2025

Nichols is correct: many of the headlines about Beal lately have centered around his hefty contract and his unique no-trade clause.

People also point out his injuries over the last few years and how little success the Phoenix Suns found with him on board.

But people seem to forget that only a few seasons ago, he was scoring more than 20 points a night for the Washington Wizards.

Beal can still be a huge threat in the right environment, with the right team.

Are the Clippers the team that will help him turn back into the superstar that he was?

There are a lot of concerns about this team, of course, with injuries being front and center.

Beal has indeed gotten hurt more often lately, and the team has really bad luck with Kawhi Leonard.

But if they can both stay healthy and play well with one another, this team could be truly troublesome for the rest of the West.

Iman Shumpert Weighs In On Big Clippers Signing

Los-Angeles-Clippers-scaled.jpg

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Clippers announced that Bradley Beal would be joining the team.

This gives the Clippers more depth and firepower on offense, but does it solve all their problems?

Speaking on ESPN, Iman Shumpert weighed in on the Beal signing.

While he is happy to see Beal playing basketball, he has his concerns about how he can contribute to the Clippers.

“I like the move just because I enjoy watching Bradley Beal play basketball. But I’m at the point now where I’m looking at it how you would look at a James Harden, how you would look at a Paul George where we’re saying: Where do you take your team? What do you add to your team at this point? Especially with you getting older,” Shumpert said.

✍
pic.twitter.com/4M0qBI7Cmb

— NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) July 16, 2025

Shumpert made a very good point: Beal just came from a team with two legitimate superstars, and they weren’t even able to make the NBA playoffs.

If the Phoenix Suns fell short with Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant, why would anyone think he can make a huge difference for the Clippers?

At this point in his career, Beal has a lot to prove.

He needs to show how he can contribute to the lineup and what he brings that isn’t provided by anyone else.

He has been in the league for 13 seasons now and has an average of 21.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 46.4 percent from the floor.

Is he truly a difference-maker or someone who contributes a little, but not a lot?

His move to Los Angeles is getting a lot of attention, but it’ll turn negative in a few months if he doesn’t push the team to its next level.

James Harden Made Major Contract Decision For Clippers

Houston Rockets v Los Angeles Clippers

For years, NBA fans have complained that James Harden doesn’t remain committed to his teams, but a recent move proves that he is definitely all-in on the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to Farbod Esnaashari, per Legion Hoops, the Clippers’ Lawrence Frank talked about Harden and some contract choices he made to help the team.

He said that Harden accepted a pay cut that allowed Los Angeles to sign both Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez.

Harden is putting his money where his mouth is and showing that he wants this team to succeed.

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) July 19, 2025

During his time with the Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers, some people said that Harden’s heart wasn’t fully in the game.

They claimed that he didn’t push himself hard enough and wasn’t driven to help his squads win in every way possible.

That doesn’t seem to be the case with the Clippers.

He’s in the right place at the right time and seems to be in the right mindset too.

He wouldn’t be willing to take a big pay cut and help the roster unless he wanted to stay with this team for the long-term future.

The additions of Beal and Lopez are sure to help the Clippers.

On top of that, the team just signed Chris Paul, which means Harden will be reunited with his iconic former teammate.

The Clippers are obviously pointed in the right direction, no matter what happens next.

This wouldn’t be possible without Harden, who is stepping up and doing a lot for his team.

Clippers Sign Longtime Veteran Guard

Oklahoma City Thunder v Los Angeles Clippers

After months of rumors and speculation, Chris Paul has made his decision and is heading back to Los Angeles.

The future Hall of Famer and 12-time All-Star has selected to play with the Los Angeles Clippers for his 21st, and possibly last, season.

The news was reported on Monday by Shams Charania and quickly celebrated by Clippers fans all over.

Although Paul and the team have a shared and rich history, the Clippers didn’t pursue Paul simply because of his previous stint with the team.

They truly believe he could help the squad in 2025-26.

Twelve-time All-Star Chris Paul has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, CAA's Steven Heumann, Ty Sullivan and Jessica Holtz told ESPN. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 21, 2025

All NBA fans remember Paul’s years with the Clippers.

During those six seasons, he put up an average of 18.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 9.8 assists, helping bring the team into the modern era and co-creating the “Lob City” craze that captivated the NBA.

He was an All-Star for almost every year in Los Angeles and was in the running for MVP multiple times.

A lot of time has passed since then, and Paul has moved all over the league, but he’s still a hugely significant and impactful player, even at 40 years old.

Last year, he averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.

Those numbers may not be as big as previous seasons, but he participated in all 82 games.

That shows that even at his age, Paul can do a lot, and the Clippers expect big things from him.

Is this going to be Paul’s last season?

He is definitely nearing the end of his career, even if it doesn’t come at the conclusion of 2025-26.

He is coming back to Los Angeles, and the team and its fans are very ready to welcome him.

Clippers Executive Hints At Chris Paul’s Role Next Season

San Antonio Spurs v Toronto Raptors

Chris Paul is coming back home to the Los Angeles Clippers.

After years away playing for various teams, he is returning to LA with high hopes.

The team has high hopes for him, too.

President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank talked about Paul’s role with the squad next year and made it clear that he will be playing an important reserve role.

“Chris is one of the most impactful players ever to wear a Clippers uniform and it’s appropriate that he returns to the team for this chapter of his career,” said Frank, via NBA.com. “Chris will help fortify our backcourt with his exceptional ballhandling, playmaking and shooting. He is joining us as a reserve point guard and is excited to fill whatever role T Lue asks him to play. He wants to be part of the group and we’re fortunate to have him back.”

A lot of people wondered how much Paul would play with the Clippers in the season ahead.

This statement from Frank proves that he will be on the floor a lot, but he might not be the starting guard every night.

That will likely be more than enough for Paul, who is now 40 years old and surely entering the final phase of his career.

He knew that when he came back to Los Angeles, he probably wouldn’t get as many minutes as younger stars, but he is okay with that.

With that being said, Paul participated in all 82 games last season, which means that he is able to stay on the court quite a bit.

The Clippers will try to rest him often and won’t need him all the time, but Paul will be ready to do all he can for Los Angeles.
