Gr8 Memories: A Quick Milestone

We don’t know whether this will be Alex Ovechkin’s final season as a Washington Capital or not, but there’s never a bad time to reflect back on two decades of being treated to this amazing talent. So each game day throughout the 2025-26 season, we’re going to be picking an Ovechkin moment to remember against that day’s opponent as we look back at an incredible career. By Alex Ovechkin’s…

Capitals vs. Kings Recap: Solid Defense Backs Caps 3-1 Win

The last time the Caps were in LA, they had what was probably one of their worst performances of the 2024-25 campaign in a 3-0 loss. Returning to the scene of the crime tonight, the Caps seemed determined to put memories of that last trip out west behind them and instead put together an almost identical game to the last time these two tangled back in DC a few weeks ago. They matched a very…

Capitals @ Sharks Recap: Leonard Leads Caps to 7-1 Win In San Jose

This game had “scheduled loss” for the Washington Capitals written all over it: second half of a back-to-back with travel, on the California road trip, and in a building where they don’t always play well. They were also down Justin Sourdif (injury) up front coming into the game, and then the team announced that John Carlson would also be out with injury after Fortunately for them…

Gr8 Memories: A New Trick

We don’t know whether this will be Alex Ovechkin’s final season as a Washington Capital or not, but there’s never a bad time to reflect back on two decades of being treated to this amazing talent. Capitals @ Ducks Recap: Hard Fought Battle in 4-3 Shootout Loss

What a battle for the Caps as their four game road trip came to an end. They ended up securing seven of eight possible points, which you’ll take all day. The Caps were already missing John Carlson and were getting Justin Sourdif back after a one game absence, then they lost Ryan Leonard to a pretty dirty hit in the first period. The Caps never gave up the lead the whole game as well.

Capitals vs. Blue Jackets Recap: Capitals Win Trap Game 2-0

This one looked like a classic trap game. With just one day off, after a three-in-four-days West Coast road trip, with key guys missing and a Columbus goalie who has given the Caps fits…this seemed like a tough ask for the Caps. But they were able to grind out a win thanks to some strong goaltending, a good cycle play in the second period, and a killer penalty kill on a double-minor late in…

Capitals vs. Blue Jackets: How the Game Was Won

The Capitals didn’t have much time to rest after coming home from their West Coast road trip, as a game with the Columbus Blue Jackets awaited their return. This one looked like a scheduled loss – but with strong goaltending and team defense, the Capitals were able to grind out the win. Logan Thompson again was great in net, saving all 39 shots he faced including a deluge to begin the third…

Capitals vs. Blue Jackets Game Thread 12/7/25

After a tough but successful road trip that saw the Caps take seven out of eight possible points, the boys return home to face their Metro Division rivals from Columbus. They’ll do so a bit shorthanded, with both Ryan Leonard and Charlie Lindgren out for the foreseeable future, and they’ll be facing a Blue Jackets team that arrives in town fresh off a wild 7-6 OT loss in Florida last night.

Special Teams Turnaround: What’s Changed?

One month ago in this space, we lamented that the Caps’ lousy special teams were literally costing the team points in the standings. Since then, they’ve gone on a torrid 11-2-2 run and, unsurprisingly, their special teams have been better, posting a perfectly respectable middle-of-the-pack 20 percent efficiency on the power play and 82.1 success rate on the penalty kill over their last ten games.

Capitals vs Hurricanes Recap: Caps Can’t Hold on to Division Lead in 3-2 Shootout Loss

The Caps seemed to struggle to find their legs again tonight after a few days off, especially when faced with the speedy, obnoxiously relentless attack of the visiting Hurricanes. That they managed to grab a point is a plus, and they played better toward the end of the game, but they’re probably not going to be happy with that performance overall. Plus: Some very impressive individual…
