Capitals vs Wild: How the Game Was Lost

The Caps followed up a lackluster loss to the Winnipeg Jets over the weekend, where they were almost shutout 5-0, with a lackluster game in Minnesota last night where they did get shutout 5-0. There’s a lot of places you could pick where the Caps lost the game but might as well start with the first goal by the Wild…because it was all downhill from there.. Just a little over two minutes into…

Capitals vs. Wild Game Thread 12/16/25

The Caps’ mini road trip got off to a rocky start to say the least, with the team stumbling to a 5-1 finish in Winnipeg. They have a chance to redeem themselves tonight in Minnesota…of course, they’ll now be facing a Wild team with 100% more Quinn Hughes, aka one of the best if not the best defensemen in the league right now. One player does not a team make, however, and the Caps have been playing…

Capitals vs. Maple Leafs Game Thread 12/18/25

The Caps have been stumbling a bit of late, having dropped three in a row including two-straight in which they were outscored by a combined 10-1 margin. So…not really what we’re looking for, especially considering how tight the standings are. They return home tonight to face a Maple Leafs team going through some similar issues, having dropped three of their last five (although they are fresh off a…

Capitals vs. Maple Leafs: How the Game Was Won

After two straight games where the Caps gave up the first goal – and proceeded to lose by a large margin – it seemed important for them to get off to a stronger start last night against the visiting Leafs. Thanks to Justin Sourdif and Aliaksei Protas, they did just that, getting the Caps on the board with the eventual game-winning goal just a little over 14 minutes into the first period.

Capitals vs. Leafs Recap: Defense Leads Offense in 4-0 Win

The Caps have not looked like themselves since gleefully taking two days off last week, and returning home after a two-game road trip, they needed a big effort to get back on track. They sure got it, getting on the board first and never really looking back. Plus: In a penalty-filled game, the Caps’ special teams came to play. The penalty killers took care of business on all five Toronto power…

Capitals vs. Red Wings Recap: Sleepy Game Burns Caps in 5-2 Loss

An afternoon game at home and the Red Wings on their mom trip? Yeah you could guess how the game went. The Caps showed little life through the first 40 minutes while the Red Wings hustled to every puck and won the battles. The Caps eventually started to play hard in the third but any time you don’t show up for 40 minutes you’re probably going to lose the game. Plus: There wasn’t much to like…

Capitals @ Red Wings Recap: Detroit Out-Motors Washington in 3-2 OT Win

The Washington Capitals and the Detroit Red Wings hit the ice at Little Caesar’s Arena this afternoon to complete the second half of a back-to-back home-and-home. Yesterday decidedly did not go Washington’s way, but today featured a Caps team that looked like they were fully present and aware. That earned them the opportunity to take at least one point back home, but Detroit snagged the second…

Capitals @ Red Wings: How the Game Was Lost

The Washington Capitals were very much looking for a bounceback performance yesterday after a sleepy outing against the Detroit Red Wings on the first half of their back-to-back. They started much stronger than they did on Saturday, dominating play in the first period and getting on the board first courtesy of Ethen Frank. The second period belonged to the Red Wings, who took a 2-1 lead into…

Capitals vs. Rangers Recap: Pre-Holiday Game Gets Away in 7-3 Loss

The Caps have been struggling to find their game of late, their recent slide coinciding (and not coincidentally) with the loss of Ryan Leonard a few weeks ago. The 20-year-old drew back into the lineup sooner than expected, and his return did seem to provide a spark to the team…until it didn’t, as the Caps let a one-goal lead slip away to lose to the hapless Rangers. Plus: For most of the…

Capitals vs. Rangers Game Thread 12/23/25

One more game before the holiday break, and one more chance for the Caps to get back on track. They’ll face a Rangers squad that has been up and down all season, much like the Caps – and have struggled a bit lately, also like the Caps, with just two wins in their last five (both past regulation). The Caps were much better in Sunday’s overtime loss than the previous game, so here’s hoping they can…

Capitals vs. Red Wings Game Thread 12/21/25

Okay, so yesterday’s home leg of the back-to-back, home-and-home set against the Red Wings…could’ve gone better. They get a chance to quickly put that loss behind them today, as they’re right back at it against the Wings up in Detroit. Here’s hoping they can find a little spark and avoid falling in too deep a hole for a second-consecutive game. First, some admin stuff: Time for a…

Capitals vs. Red Wings: How the Game Was Lost

It’s possible that no one told the Caps that yesterday’s game started at 12:30 p.m., as it took half the game until the Caps finally started to looking like their usual selves. At that point, however, they were already down four goals and no matter how good you are that’s hard to come back from that. They did make an attempt, scoring two goals late in the game (three if you include the goal taken…
