Capitals vs. Predators Recap: Flat Notes in 3-2 Loss

What is momentum, anyway? The Caps don’t seem to know, as they left Chicago on a high (from a game they definitely should have won, but that’s beside the point) and even dominated stretches of this one but ultimately left the Music City sans points. That’s not what you want to see when, once again, the race in the standings is oh so tight. Plus: Alex Ovechkin stays hot. We love to see it…

Capitals vs. Canadiens Recap: Shorthanded Caps Claw Out of Early Deficit in 3-2 Win

Plus: Down Wilson, Sourdif and Chychrun, the Capitals were able to dig deep and give one of their most spirited efforts of the season in the third to pull off a game that looked D.O.A from the outset. Minus: The power play woes continued and looked like it was going to be the biggest reason why they would have lost this game…until it wasn’t. Caps Player of the Game: Ethen Frank has made…

Capitals vs. Canadiens: How the Game Was Won

Nobody would’ve blamed you if you turned off last night’s game off after the second period (at least, I wouldn’t have). The Washington Capitals, already sans their top center Pierre-Luc Dubois, entered Tuesday night’s tilt with the Montreal Canadiens with a more extensive inactive list. They were without Tom Wilson and Jakob Chychrun, arguably the two most productive players on this year’s…

Capitals vs. Sharks Recap: Sharks Sink Caps in 3-2 Loss

The Washington Capitals came into tonight’s game looking to string together their first consecutive wins since their six-game winning streak back in November-December. Coincidentally, the final game in that run was their 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks during their annual California road swing. Plus: Ryan Leonard scored an absolute beauty of a goal in the third period to bring the Caps back…

Capitals vs. Sharks Game Thread 1/15/26

Fresh off a big comeback win in overtime over the Canadiens, the Caps now turn their attention to another young, fast team in the San Jose Sharks. Led by Macklin Celebrini and his 24-goal, 70-point powerhouse season thus far, the Sharks are not a team to take lightly (despite the Caps’ dominant 7-1 win over them back in early December). The home team should have Jakob Chychrun back tonight…

Capitals vs. Panthers Recap: Caps End Homestand on Low Note in 5-2 Loss

This team is just not where they need to be right now, and it’s showing every night they let games slip away that they should have. Injuries are a factor, for sure – they’re simply not the same team without Tom Wilson and Justin Sourdif out, to say nothing of Pierre-Luc Dubois – but they’ve looked sluggish and ineffective for a while now, and this was another example of that. Plus: Jakob…

Capitals vs. Panthers: How the Game Was Lost

After a sluggish start to the game last night against the Panthers that saw them head to the locker room down 1-0 after one, the Caps started the second period with a lot more energy. After two goals from Jakob Chychrun in the first half of the frame, it seemed like they’d shaken off that early malaise and put themselves in a position to hold off what should have been a tired Panthers team.

Montreal Victoire vs. New York Sirens PWHL Game Thread

The gentlemen had their chance yesterday, and it went very badly – so today, it’s time for the ladies to take over! The PWHL Takeover Tour rides into DC today, with Capital One Arena playing host to the Montreal Victoire and the New York Sirens. The two teams have faced off twice already this season, with the Victoire shutting out the Sirens 4-0 in Montreal back in late November…

Capitals vs Avalanche Recap: Caps Can’t Keep Up in 5-2 Loss

For two periods this afternoon, the Capitals actually hung with the league-leading Avalanche – largely thanks to a stand-up performance by Charlie Lindgren. That was the case really until Artturi Lehkonen’s goal late in the third, when it became clear that the Caps just didn’t have the firepower to match Colorado punch for punch. Plus: They won a goalie interference challenge for the first…

Capitals vs Avalanche: How the Game Was Lost

Monday afternoon’s game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals looked every bit like a contest between a team ripping through the league at a historic rate versus one whose chances of making the playoffs are a coin flip. Colorado, as they have to everyone they’ve played this year, dominated possession. Washington had several stretches where they found themselves hemmed in the…

Oh man, the Caps are really going through it right now huh? Look, I'm a Sabres fan so I know ALL about watching your team get absolutely worked by better squads, but at least we're used to the pain at this point lmao

That Avalanche game though - losing 5-2 to a team that's basically steamrolling the entire league isn't exactly shocking. Colorado is playing on another level right now. The fact that Lindgren kept them in it for two periods is honestly impressive. But let's be real, when you're facing a team ripping through the league at a "historic rate" you better bring your A-game and the Caps clearly didn't have the offensive firepower to match.

And the Panthers loss? Classic case of getting the lead and then just... letting it slip away. Chychrun does his job, gets you up, and then what? That's gotta be frustrating as hell for Caps fans.

The playoff chances being described as a "coin flip" is rough. At least you guys have had success in the past decade though - we're over here in Buffalo still waiting for our team to even SNIFF the postseason again!

The PWHL game is cool though - nice to see Capital One Arena getting some women's hockey action. How was the turnout for that?

Capitals @ Canucks Recap: Washington’s Woes Continue in 4-3 Loss

Coming into tonight, the Washington Capitals and Vancouver Canucks were two desperate teams looking for a win. The Canucks had lost 11 games in a row, while the Caps were 4-6-1 in their last 11 and riding a three-game skid into Vancouver. A positive for the Caps: after missing eight games, Tom Wilson was finally back in the lineup. A negative for the Caps: they were playing a team on an 11-game…
