Chicago Bulls earn more high praise for NBA jerseys

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

The Chicago Bulls have one of the best and most iconic jerseys in the entire NBA, and it’s been that way for a long time. They recently got named the best jersey in the entire sport, and a new list has just surfaced. This one disagrees, but only slightly.

The Chicago Bulls have not been a good basketball team in about a decade. They’ve been mired in mediocrity for a long time, but the one thing they do have going for them is a clean uniform selection, and that continues in 2025-26 with the newest uniforms.

“Though they might frustrate fans by chasing mediocrity on the floor, the Chicago Bulls are anything but ordinary when it comes to their attire,” Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes wrote in ranking Chicago the fourth-best in the league.

They only trailed:

  • Memphis Grizzlies
  • Portland Trail Blazers
  • Minnesota Timberwolves

Hughes went on to note that the simple white and red is, like the Boston Celtics, a masterclass in “understated excellence.” He wrote, “Chicago’s style is a testament to the idea that you don’t have to redesign uniforms and tweak color schemes every five years to sell more merch. There’s greater value in establishing an identity and sticking with it.” For years, the Bulls have looked like this, and it’s paid off beautifully.

Normally, going back to the basics for the Statement and City Edition uniforms would get them docked, but the Bulls get an exception here since they’re just that good. “Chicago will again go with the pinstriped black look that Michael Jordan wore back in the mid and late-90s as its Statement jersey, and it’ll add light blue accents with a script ‘Chicago’ on the chest in its City Edition,” Hughes noted.

The insider also added that there’s nothing really to nitpick here, except maybe the size of the font, but even that is a nice contract when compared to the other uniforms the Bulls run. There’s virtually nothing wrong with any of it, giving Chicago one of the best uniform rotations in the sport of basketball.

Insider: Now’s time to buy Chicago Bulls stock for the future

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) reacts with center Nikola Vucevic (9) during the first half against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. Sports

The Chicago Bulls have been accused, fairly so, of being aimless for the last few seasons. But at least slightly, things have changed a little bit. The future is a little brighter than it has been, and the front office seems a little more focused on it than usual. It has one insider believing this could be the shift this franchise has desperately needed.

One insider is all-in on Chicago Bulls’ growth

James Herbert of CBS Sports broke down everything that’s impacting the Chicago Bulls this season. There are reasons (Matas Buzelis, Noa Essengue, Josh Giddey) to be optimistic, but this is also the Bulls we’re talking about. They usually don’t pay off optimism.

Herbert, taking the optimist’s route, wrote, “This is by far the best I’ve felt about the Bulls since the first half of the 2021-22 season, which turned out to be nothing more than a (beautiful, memorable) blip. I loved the way they played at the end of last season, and I must have watched Josh Giddey’s full-court buzzer-beater against the Lakers 200 times.”

He admitted that it’s “cool” to hate the Bulls right now, but he envisions a world where NBA media start talking about how fun the Bulls are just a few weeks into the season. They have the pieces to be a fun, if not solid, team this year. He called them a “League Pass” team, meaning everyone will want to tune in even if they’re not amazing.

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls

“Giddey’s going to continue to push the pace and throw outrageous passes. It’s impossible not to like Matas Buzelis. All the stat nerds have been hyping up Noa Essengue, too. Now’s the time to buy Bulls stock!” he concluded.

There are absolutely reasons to be hesitant, such as the Isaac Okoro trade, Josh Giddey’s playoff performance in the past, and the front office/ownership. But there are some things that provide optimism, like Giddey’s growth, Essengue’s potential, and Buzelis’ development. Things could lean positive for the Bulls this year and finally give them something to build on and actually move into the future.

NBA insider criticizes Chicago Bulls’ worst contract

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls made a huge mistake when they drafted Patrick Williams in the 2020 draft, and then they compounded it with a bad extension. That extension is hampering them now and appears poised to hamper them well into the future, despite it not being a massive salary. It was just labeled as one of the contracts that’s going to age the absolute worst.

NBA insider believes Patrick Williams’ contract will age so poorly

The Patrick Williams $90 million deal is almost halfway over, but it’s still going to hurt even when the Chicago Bulls are about to get out from under it. There are two years and $36 million left with a player option after that, and Williams would never get $18 million a year anywhere else, so he’s going to opt in.

It’s such a bad contract that it’s listed on Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale’s list of bad contracts that will age poorly in two seasons. “Patrick Williams’ deal just keeps going and going, doesn’t it?” he wrote. He acknowledged that Williams only makes under 10% of the cap, which isn’t really that much.

But in order for that to matter, Williams actually has to be a rotation combo forward, but he’s been anything but so far. He’s almost unplayable. “While he’s young enough to keep getting better, he’s shown few signs of being a serviceable offensive weapon,” Favale wrote.

“Ultra-low volume offsets the 39.2 percent clip he’s shooting from deep. Since entering the NBA, he has never ranked higher than the 22nd percentile of BBall Index’s O-LEBRON metric. His usage rate, meanwhile, has topped out inside the 17th percentile,” Favale continued.

He estimated that it would be like Zeke Nnaji’s bad deal with the Denver Nuggets. “The price is low enough it won’t seem detrimental, but ebbing playing time and the inability to trade Williams without attaching assets will speak for itself,” he wrote in conclusion.

Chicago Bulls Patrick Williams

The Williams deal is just bad enough to prevent the Bulls from doing much during its duration, and it’s bad enough that they’d have a really hard time getting anyone to trade for it. For reference, Williams makes $18 million, and he was listed with Joel Embiid ($62.5 million), Jayson Tatum ($62.8 million), DeAaron Fox ($53.6 million), and Jakob Poeltl ($27.3 million) in terms of 2027-28 salaries.

So while Williams does not make all that much, it’s bad enough to be compared to albatross contracts, which is a scathing indictment.

How the Chicago Bulls can return to contender status: roster, draft and possible trades

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls’ front office has already nudged the franchise toward a younger, more modern core, and the path back to contention is now about sequencing: develop the right players, spend picks wisely, and time a consolidation trade when value peaks. For readers who handicap across multiple leagues, cross-sport data can help frame risk; sharp bettors often scan the NFL page on FIRST.com for pricing patterns that translate to basketball markets as well.

Roster architecture: What the Chicago Bulls already have

The Chicago Bulls reshaped their identity across the last two seasons. DeMar DeRozan departed in a 2024 sign-and-trade, Zach LaVine moved at the 2025 deadline in a three-team deal, and Josh Giddey arrived (and was just extended). That activity brought back rotation pieces (Kevin Huerter, Zach Collins, Tre Jones), returned control of a 2025 first, and clarified the pecking order around Coby White, 2024 lottery pick Matas Buzelis, and 2025 lottery pick Noa Essengue. Giddey’s four-year, $100M extension signals he’s a long-term hub; LaVine’s exit netted Huerter, Collins, Jones, and that reclaimed 2025 first which became Essengue. Buzelis remains a wing-size scorer with shooting touch.

Core snapshot (2025-26)

PlayerAgeContract/controlPrimary fit
Josh Giddey22New 4-year deal through 2029Jumbo initiator; rebounding guard; improved 3-pt accuracy
Coby White25Final year of 3-yr dealLead scorer/shot-maker; off-ball spacer next to Giddey
Matas Buzelis20Rookie-scale6-10 wing scorer; secondary rim pressure and shooting
Patrick Williams24Multi-yearTwo-way forward; low-usage efficiency; switch tool
Nikola Vučević34–35Through 2026High-IQ center; post scoring, DHO hub; drop coverage
Kevin Huerter27$17.99M expiringMovement shooting; handoff threat; salary ballast
Zach Collins28On-ball screens, short-roll passingPhysical 5/4; depth at center
Tre Jones25Value guard dealLow-turnover table-setter; point-of-attack try-hard
Ayo Dosunmu25Team controlCombo defense; catch-and-shoot
Noa Essengue (R)18Rookie-scaleLong forward; motor, tools, developmental upside

Giddey’s extension is fresh; Huerter’s 2025-26 number is a tidy expiring; Vučević is in the final season of his 3-year pact. Those contract shapes matter for trade construction and future cap flexibility. White has surged from prospect to reliable scorer, and Buzelis gives the offense a tall release valve on the wing.

What that means right now: with Giddey orchestrating and White spacing/attacking, Chicago can play five-out looks featuring Buzelis and Williams on the wings. The swing items are rim protection and defensive rebounding at a playoff standard, plus sustained shooting volume. Huerter’s expiring and Collins’ mid-tier money create trade flexibility; Essengue’s growth arc can raise the team’s athletic ceiling.

Draft capital & trade pathways

Chicago’s pick chest is healthier than it appears on the surface. The LaVine deal returned the 2025 first that became Essengue; the team also holds its own firsts going forward and still has access to Portland-related draft considerations (with protections). Under the Stepien Rule, a club must control at least one first in every other future draft; in practice, the Bulls can still put together packages with two movable firsts while preserving year-to-year compliance.

Actionable paths for the next 12–18 months

  • Rim-protection upgrade via consolidation. Package Huerter’s expiring ($17.99M) with a mid-sized deal (Collins) plus a lightly protected future first to chase a switch-capable rim protector who runs, screens, and finishes. Salary matching is clean and preserves White/Buzelis/Williams minutes, while raising the defensive floor right away.
  • Big wing acquisition around Vučević’s number. Use Vučević’s contract as matching salary with a pick sweetener or swap to acquire a 6-7/6-8 two-way wing who guards 2–4 and shoots volume threes. The idea is to rebalance usage toward wings and reduce reliance on drop coverage late in games.
  • Draft-first route with surgical trades up/down. If the market doesn’t yield the right frontcourt target, keep Huerter through the deadline, re-shop in June, and use multiple picks to move on the board for a rim-runner or a movement shooter with size. RealGM’s ledger shows Chicago still controls its own firsts across the late-20s, which supports a trade-up play on draft night.
  • Bet on internal growth while protecting flexibility. Re-sign White next summer at market, let Essengue grow behind Williams/Buzelis, and use Tre Jones as a stabilizer for second units. This keeps the window open for a larger star trade if one becomes available without stripping the pipeline.

Why this sequencing works: recent moves already trimmed redundancy. LaVine’s exit reset usage balance; Giddey’s improved 3-point clip (37.8%) widened lineup options; Huerter recovered his shooting in Chicago’s system. With two or so true firsts to play with, Chicago can target one needle-mover archetype (rim protector or big wing) rather than chasing a third high-usage guard.

What a contender version of the Chicago Bulls looks like

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

Picture a rotation where Giddey quarterbacks a top-7 assist rate, White punishes weak-side tags, and the frontcourt features a vertical threat who blocks shots and sprints the floor. Buzelis slots as a 6-10 shooter who can attack closeouts; Williams guards star forwards without fouling; Jones caps lineups with low-mistake minutes. If Essengue hits as a high-motor defender and the front office lands that rim protector or big wing, Chicago projects as a home-court-advantage team within two seasons—without emptying the asset cupboard.

Key benchmarks to watch (and bet against): sustained team 3PA rate in the top half, defensive rebounding percentage above 74%, and half-court offensive rating near league average or better when Giddey sits. Hit those marks while adding one frontcourt piece, and the climb from play-in noise to real playoff teeth stops feeling hypothetical.

Insider proposes blockbuster Chicago Bulls trade for Warriors stars

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) drives to the basket against the Charlotte Hornets during the second half at Spectrum Center.

The Chicago Bulls have been linked to Jonathan Kuminga a lot. There are also swirling rumors about Coby White’s future with the team. In one fell swoop, one insider proposed a blockbuster trade that answers both of those questions and arguably sets the Bulls on the right path for the future.

Proposed blockbuster sees Chicago Bulls send Coby White west

With a contract decision coming up, Coby White’s future with the Chicago Bulls is anything but set in stone. He has been included in trade rumors all offseason. On the other hand, Jonathan Kuminga, who’s in the same boat that Josh Giddey just was, has been linked to Chicago amid the standoff with the Golden State Warriors.

What if those two just switched places? That’s the idea Bleacher Report insider Zach Buckley came up with. He proposed the Bulls send Coby White and Jalen Smith to the Warriors for Kuminga (sign-and-trade), Moses Moody, and a 2028 first-round pick.

“Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green all have two years left on their contracts, so the organization should feel much more urgency than the sticky situation with Kuminga otherwise reflects,” Buckley wrote, explaining why the Warriors might want to forego the future of Kuminga and look at win-now players.

“Regardless of one’s opinion of Kuminga and his impact on winning, losing an unprotected first always carries risk, and Moody is a proven, generally reliable contributor,” the insider continued, but that should be good news for the Bulls.

He views Smith and White as crucial pieces for the Warriors to maximize the final years of Steph Curry, with White in particular being just what they could use. As for Chicago, this is a bold move, but it’s one that the front office should be interested in.

NBA: Playoffs Minnesota Timberwolves at Golden State Warriors

NBA: Playoffs Minnesota Timberwolves at Golden State Warriors

“They should be distancing themselves from their prosaic present and pushing toward a brighter future. Betting on Kuminga’s ability to thrive in a larger, more consistent role than he’s handled in Golden State would be a big part of that plan,” Buckley wrote. “Adding the unprotected first might be an even bigger piece of the puzzle. And Moody is someone who can support a winning team whenever the Bulls are able to assemble one.”

All in all, this gives the Bulls a very valuable pick, another potential cornerstone that’s younger than White and will probably be cheaper, and a vet that can help everyone in the building. Losing White would sting, but in this case, it may be for the best.

Chicago Bulls reveal pessimistic goal for upcoming season

Chicago Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas is not overly optimistic about the team this year.

Any momentum the Chicago Bulls had on their run at the end of the regular season ended with a 109-90 blowout by the Miami Heat in the Play-In Tournament at the United Center. On Monday, executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas told the media that he hoped a mostly unchanged roster from the one that lost in the Play-In Tournament would continue to develop this season.

“The last 20 games of the season gave us a glimpse of our future, and we established offensive identity, baseball movement, threes,” Karnisovas said while reading from a pre-written script. “Most importantly, we showed cohesion, and we got better. We were 14th on offense and ninth on defense. Those numbers are encouraging this year. Excited for the season with an established and young core, we are building a strong foundation that will continue to develop while learning to win together.”

Karnisovas believes Coby White and Josh Giddey can develop into stars in the NBA while Matas Buzelis shows progress in Year 2. Karnisovas was cautious not to call the Bulls a playoff contender. Chicago apparently isn’t in the championship business for the upcoming season.

The Chicago Bulls have modest goals

The Bulls have more modest goals, which feel at this point to be pessimistic for a team that hasn’t won a playoff series in a decade.

“We have to get more defensive-minded. Versatility and creativity to be essential to our defense. Focus will be on establishing encore toughness and physicality. Karnisovas said. “We are confident in this group and excited to show our fans the team that plays with consistency, toughness, and pride every night.

“Building while competing is a goal. Every decision tied to that.”

The Bulls aren’t trying to win this season. They’re going to try and develop a future winner with their core. The team expects to be about as lifeless against true competitors s Karnisovas was in stumbling over his pre-written bullet points about the questionable “key factors” the Bulls have to look forward to when the real games begin a few weeks.

Worst fear for Chicago Bulls in 2025-26 has been revealed

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Golden State Warriors

The Chicago Bulls are an interesting team this season. They should have some success with a fairly young roster, but that can also lead to problems. One such problem is turning the ball over, something the revamped Bulls did last year. This year, according to one analyst, that could be the thing that breaks the season.

NBA analyst reveals what could go wrong with Chicago Bulls in 2025-26

Chicago Bulls guard Tre Jones (30) passes the ball to center Nikola Vucevic (9) during the second half against the Detroit Pistons at the United Center.

The Chicago Bulls have young pieces now. They don’t boast an elite young core, but they’re not trotting out a bunch of mediocre veterans anymore. Josh Giddey, Coby White, and Matas Buzelis are all 25 and under. That should help them build, but growing pains are all but inevitable.

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley wrote, “While the best version of the young (though not young enough) Bulls should play fast and loose, they too often veer into reckless territory. Without established veterans like DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, they tumbled from third to 15th in turnover percentage last season, and early indications from this preseason suggest more turnover trouble is coming.”

Even coach Billy Donovan admitted this. He said turnovers have been a problem “every single day” during training camp. The team committed 26 turnovers in its preseason opener. “Every day it’s been a problem, and we show up, we talk about it, but we’ve got to get it cleared up because to me they’re putting forth a really good effort, but you can’t overcome that,” he added after the first preseason game.

The Bulls don’t have a ton of “proven scorers” in Buckley’s eyes. Valuing every possession and getting as many of them as possible is crucial. “Keep giving the ball away at this rate, and the Bulls won’t even reach their typical level of mediocrity,” the analyst concluded. Fortunately, the Bulls do have a young player who’s been in the league a while. He should be able to cut down on turnovers in Josh Giddey. He’s only 22, but he’s already onto his second NBA contract. He also has a lot of experience with a team that’s pretty smart: the Oklahoma City Thunder. But if Chicago can’t take care of the ball, things could go horribly wrong.

Insider’s Chicago Bulls rookie prediction is great news

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have a couple of younger pieces to build around. Clearly, Josh Giddey is the future, as he’s now signed through his age-26 season. Coby White is 25, and Matas Buzelis is freshly 21. That doesn’t exactly make up a young core, but that’s where Noa Essengue could come into play. The young, raw prospect could end up being a key piece soon. In fact, one insider predicts that he’ll not only be a key piece for Chicago this season, but that it will push a maligned player out of town expeditiously.

NBA insider has exciting prediction for Chicago Bulls

Things have not gone well for Patrick Williams and the Chicago Bulls since he was drafted. Not only has he been a pretty big bust, the team has struggled to move forward in that time. An answer to the problem might be on the roster now, though. Noa Essengue projects to one day be a vital forward on the roster, thereby decreasing the need for Williams any longer.

This is Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz’s bold prediction for the 2025 rookie class in Chicago: that Essengue will immediately force Williams out. “Patrick Williams has long been a disappointment for the Chicago Bulls despite being selected No. 4 overall in 2020. The Bulls selection of forward Noa Essengue will finally end the Williams experiment in Chicago,” Swartz wrote.

“The team has become more forward-heavy this offseason, especially with the selection of the 6’9″ Essengue at No. 12 overall and the Lonzo Ball-Isaac Okoro swap. Matas Buzelis is already locked in as one starting forward in Chicago,” he continued. The spots for Williams on the active roster are dwindling. If Essengue can develop quickly, he’ll likely end up as the final straw for Williams’ Chicago tenure.

“Expect Williams to hit the trade market, with Essengue’s timeline of success correlating to the Bulls’ motivation to move on from their former lottery pick,” Swartz concluded. Of course, Essengue is young and unpolished. He was not a plug-and-play type of rookie, so it may take time. If that’s the case, and he needs development in the G League, then it’s possible that Williams survives to another offseason. Nevertheless, his time is running out. Essengue can put an end to it.

Chicago Bulls have three top 100 NBA players

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers with guard Josh Giddey (3) during the second half at United Center.

The Chicago Bulls don’t seem like a great team. They’ve gone exactly 164-164 over the last four years, the picture of mediocrity. They also seem to lack a lot of firepower, as they don’t really have any superstar players. However, according to one insider, they do have a pretty good depth of talent. Bleacher Report’s annual Top 100 ranking just came out, and the Bulls have three players on it.

Chicago Bulls get three top 100 players from B/R insider

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls may not be an elite team, but they do have three star players worthy of praise. Nikola Vucevic, who may end up being traded sooner rather than later, is on the list with Josh Giddey and Coby White. It’s plausible, too, that this time next year will see Matas Buzelis on the list.

Vucevic was first up at 85 overall. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley wrote, “Chicago’s endless cycle of mediocrity has somewhat distorted perceptions of Vucevic as a player. That’s not to say he’s blameless in the team’s inability to climb the Eastern Conference ladder, but these perpetual pushes for play-in participation have furthered the notion that he doesn’t positively impact winning.”

If the trade does eventually happen, the perception of Vucevic would likely change. He’s very limited on defense, but he is “absurdly skilled” on the other end of the floor. “He was basically chasing nightly 20-point double-doubles last season while shooting 53 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three,” Buckley noted.

Up next is Coby White, the star guard who ranked 78th. Buckley wrote, “He is now two years deep into a full-fledged breakout, shining as a featured scorer in Chicago and one who is potent both on and off the ball. His handles are slippery, his burst is special, and his splash rate stays above-average every time he adds to the frequency of those looks.”

If White can have another strong season, he could be in line for a really big payday. That may not be in Chicago, but he’s good enough to warrant a lot of money. The Bulls would likely be wise to continue with him alongside other young talent.

Finally, Josh Giddey was ranked 71. “Giddey should feel as comfortable as ever entering the new season. He feels as close to an established centerpiece as the Bulls have, an organizational standing solidified by the four-year, $100 million pact he inked this summer,” Buckley said. But to maintain that, he will need to evolve a little bit. Filling out the stat sheet isn’t enough. Can Giddey shoot better or score more in general? What about using his plus size at the guard spot for some better defense?

“He’s been a solid starter to this point, but the Bulls just placed a nine-figure bet on his ability to climb closer to stardom,” Buckley concluded. This is a fine ranking for the guard now, but the Bulls will hope he can continue to rise.

Insider reveals why Chicago Bulls cannot win NBA Finals

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets Coby White

The Chicago Bulls probably aren’t going to win the NBA Finals this year. There have been only 16 teams that have ever even made the NBA Finals after not making the playoffs the year before. Most of those had star power or won the offseason. That’s not really true on either count for the Bulls. Still, anything is theoretically possible, but one insider made the case for why a Bulls Finals win isn’t.

Why the Chicago Bulls won’t be a champion this season

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Orlando Magic

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Orlando Magic

The Chicago Bulls have gone 164-164 over their last four seasons, and very little about the 2025 offseason suggests a sudden title run is in the cards. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale made the case against every single team winning the title. Chicago’s wasn’t that difficult to argue. “Treating the Chicago Bulls as a playoff hopeful undermines everything they’ve built. They can’t have the play-in tournament named after them if their season too often extends past it,” Favale wrote jokingly.

He admitted that those jokes would be tiresome if they weren’t also very accurate. He even likened the Bulls to the Josh Giddey $100 million contract. It’s slightly above average, but it’s not necessary. That is, in a nutshell, what the Bulls represent.

“Credit head coach Billy Donovan for implementing an aesthetically pleasing offense, and to the front office for drafting Matas Buzelis in 2024,” Favale continued. “I’m excited to see how the organization ruins both this season, presumably by mandating Nikola Vučević lead the league in touches at the nail until February in order to inflate his value enough for executive vice president Artūras Karnišovas to extend him.”

Favale believes the Bulls are positioned to be active at the deadline since they have “expiring contracts galore” to move off of. But can they do that well, or will they inexplicably buy and ruin their future? Either way, the team is not remotely set up for immediate success. “There is something to be said for continuity. The Bulls are nothing if not consistent. Their quest to stay in the bottom-of-the-middle, much like the Patrick Williams contract, transcends time and space,” the analyst concluded.

The Bulls are seemingly beginning to start truly building for the future. But that means nothing for 2025-26. They’re still good enough not to finish in the basement, but even a career year from every single player wouldn’t get the Bulls a Finals trophy.

The Chicago Bulls haven’t had a nationally relevant player in a while. They’ve had and still have good players, but they haven’t had someone like LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, or Donovan Mitchell who will be in the headlines all the time. That’s not necessarily a good or bad thing, but it does hurt the current team’s visibility a little bit. And while it may not help a ton on the basketball court, someone quite relevant to the wider NBA has just signed a deal with the Bulls.

3x Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung signs with Chicago Bulls

Most casual basketball fans know who Mac McClung is, but not because he’s particularly good at basketball. In fact, he’s struggled to make it to the NBA level and stay there throughout his NBA career. His supreme athleticism hasn’t made a nice NBA career, but he’s not without his accolades. He’s won the Dunk Contest an impressive three times, and he’s a former G League MVP. Now, he’s the newest member of the Chicago Bulls.

According to Mike Scotto, McClung is signing a deal with Chicago, but we don’t know how long or for how much. We can safely assume it’s a very inexpensive short-term contract given McClung’s talent level. And since the signing is happening just days before the season officially begins next week, the guard won’t have much time to really make an impact. It’s highly likely that he’ll end up with the Windy City Bulls first.

However, given how good he’s been in the G League, McClung may eventually crack the rotation. If nothing else, he’s probable for the Dunk Contest again. He’s won it three times in a row. He’s the only NBA player to ever do that. In fact, only Nate Robinson has won three, and no one has won four. McClung would be going for history this year if he participates, and the Bulls will get to be a part of it. The last Bulls Dunk Contest winner? Michael Jordan in 1987 and 1988.

His arrival may not help the Bulls get out of the play-in range this year. However, McClung will certainly bring a level of attention to the team that wasn’t there before. And when he inevitably goes dunking, he’ll be doing it in a Bulls jersey. That’s substantial for a team that hasn’t had much during All-Star Weekend in a while.

Cris Collinsworth hints at Michael Jordan’s role with NBA on NBC

Michael Jordan

The 2025-26 NBA season is set to tip off next week and when it does, NBC will be a prominent source once again for the league. The NBA on NBC is officially back this year and with that comes the return of Michael Jordan.

The NBA legend is set to be an analyst for the upcoming season, a shocking announcement that had fans excited for what’s to come. But since that announcement, the details have been limited.

Until now.

Sunday Night Football announcer Cris Collinsworth hinted at Jordan’s role during a recent media appearance.

Michael Jordan’s role on NBC partially revealed

During an appearance on FanDuel TV’s Up & Adams, Collinsworth teased Jordan’s role as a special contributor for the broadcast. And it sounds awesome.

“It will be a deep dive into the brain of Michael Jordan. Is that enough of a tease without giving away anything?… The things you would really want to know from Michael Jordan… It’s like details way inside the brain of the best basketball player that ever lived.”

Check out the clip below:

What EXACTLY is Michael Jordan's special contributor role with NBA on NBC?

That sounds pretty awesome.

We don’t know how often the studio broadcasts will feature Jordan. NBC has really been able to take advantage of getting the broadcasting rights and adding talent along the way. That’s great news for NBA fans.

The NBA on NBC officially makes its return for opening night with a double header featuring the Houston Rockets at the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the Golden State Warriors at the Los Angeles Lakers at 10 p.m. ET.

You can find the full schedule for the NBA on NBC here.

Analyst: Chicago Bulls wouldn’t pick Noa Essengue in draft redo

USATSI_27334682_168402676_lowres-1200x600.jpg

The Chicago Bulls selected Noa Essengue with the 12th overall pick in the NBA Draft. If they knew then what they know now about him and the other prospects, would they? After the preseason and Summer League have both essentially come and gone, there’s a lot more info on how these players will translate to the NBA. Does that change how Chicago operates? One insider believes it does.

NBA analyst thinks Chicago Bulls take different prospect in draft do-over

The Chicago Bulls needed a big man badly in the NBA Draft. Only Nikola Vucevic and Zack Collins can play center on the current roster, which is why the Bulls were linked to Derik Queen and others for so long. They ultimately went with a toolsy forward in Noa Essengue, but if the draft were done over again, would they? According to Bleacher Report writer Greg Swartz, they would not.

Instead, they pick Duke center Khaman Maluach, a player who went 10th to the Phoenix Suns initially. “Originally off the board already, the Chicago Bulls should be thrilled to get Khaman Maluach here,” the analyst wrote. This gives the Bulls a franchise center to build around, but it doesn’t impact the timeline. Maluach is very young and raw, similar to Essengue.

Nikola Vucevic is about a week shy of his 35th birthday and will be a free agent next offseason. The Bulls need to find their next franchise center to pair with Josh Giddey, Mastas Buzelis, Coby White, and others, an area they didn’t fill by selecting forward Noa Essengue,” Swartz continued.

Chicago Bulls

There’s no world where Maluach ever develops into the offensive standout that Vucevic is, but Swartz believes he will be a “far better rim protector who will legitimately be able to anchor an NBA defense.” That is massive for a team that’s been in need of a player like that for a while. Having a lockdown rim protector changes the identity of a team’s defense.

As for Essengue, he didn’t slide too far. His upside still made him a first-round pick, with the Utah Jazz taking him 18th overall to pair with Tre Johnson (since Ace Bailey was off the board).

Chicago Bulls reveal devastating injury news on Coby White for start of season

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers with guard Josh Giddey (3) during the second half at United Center.

The Chicago Bulls are set to run it back this season with Coby White and Josh Giddey leading a team that made to the Play-In Tournament in April.

More News: Bears HC Ben Johnson hints at trying out defender on offense

The Bulls are hoping their young core of White and Giddey will continue to develop as Matas Buzelis develops in his second year in the NBA.

Unfortunately for Chicago, the team had a devastating injury announcement that will affect at least the team’s first six games of the regular season.

Per the Bulls, White will be out for at least two weeks while he recovers from a right calf strain he suffered in August that caused him to miss the preseason.

Per Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, Bulls head coach Billy Donocan said last week that White needed to show he could handle contract to return in time for the season opener on the road against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

“The only box for him to check right now is contact, and we just haven’t been able to do that,” Donovan said. “Saturday will be a day we’ll get back to practice or contact, so I think that would be the monitoring of him once we get back to practice.

“So that’s the only hurdle he hasn’t gotten over that the medical staff wants to see how he responds.”

White apparently didn’t respond that well, and the Bulls will be down one of their best players for a significant stretch of the regular season.

White made great strides on the Bulls last season. The 2019 first-round pick averaged 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

NBA insider reveals reason for optimism for Chicago Bulls in 2025-26

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) drives to the basket against the Charlotte Hornets during the second half at Spectrum Center.

The Chicago Bulls are a long shot to make the NBA playoffs this year. They’re more likely to once again make but fall out of the Play-In Tournament in the East, which has routinely been their fate over the last few years. They have had a hard time really getting a direction for the future and deciding what they want to be, but there are signs of life. One insider believes there’s a pretty big sign that fans can be optimistic about this year.

Why the Chicago Bulls have some hope this season

More News: Chicago Bulls reveal devastating injury news on Coby White for start of season

At first glance, there’s nothing exciting at all about bringing back the same team as last year. The Chicago Bulls went 39-43 and only swapped out Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro (potential downgrade). Otherwise, it’s the same team plus Noa Essengue, who might start and spend a lot of time in the G League.

But looking further provides reason for optimism. This is the team that finished well last year, and it’s with an older, better version of Matas Buzelis. Though he ranked them 22nd, Bleacher Report insider Andy Bailey revealed why there should be a little bit of hope in the Windy City.

“Another young team that closed 2024-25 well, the Chicago Bulls are bringing back all the most important members of the core. Last season, when all four of Coby White, Josh Giddey, Kevin Huerter, and Matas Buzelis were on the floor, Chicago was plus-11.7 points per 100 possessions. The sample is small but encouraging. And that feeling can only swell after a preseason in which Buzelis averaged 17.6 points in just 23.3 minutes,” he wrote.

It’s clear that Buzelis is on the upswing, and we know now how good a lineup with Coby White and Josh Giddey can be. White is going to miss some time at he beginning of the season, but once they’re all on the floor together, there is a pretty solid lineup that the Bulls can turn to for success. That doesn’t include Nikola Vucevic, who, while still on the team, provides elite offense and spacing from the center spot. This could be a sneakily good lineup this season.

Michael Jordan reveals the last time he picked up a basketball

Michael Jordan

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan last stepped on the court for a game back in 2003 before he retired for the third and final time. Since then, Jordan has made public appearances but has kept busy with family, golf and being a co-owner of a NASCAR team.

But when it comes to basketball, Jordan has mainly stayed away besides a few appearances here and there.

Now, Michael Jordan is part of the NBA’s return to NBC as he will have a special segment at halftime of the national game each week. The segment is called “MJ: Insights to Excellence” where he will give his insight into the game of basketball. And during Tuesday’s appearance, Jordan revealed when he last picked up a basketball.

Michael Jordan’s debut and the last time he picked up a basketball

At first, Jordan admitted it’s been a long time since he picked up a basketball and shot it. But as Mike Tirico kept asking, Jordan revealed it actually wasn’t that long ago.

Jordan told Tirico that it was just last month when he rented out a house for the Ryder Cup in New York.

“I was at the Ryder Cup,” Jordan explained. “And I rented a house from the owner. He came over to do pictures. He had grandkids. And I was meet and greet, thanked him for allowing me to stay in the house. And he had a basketball court. He said, ‘I want you to shoot one free throw.’ I said, ‘Really?’”

“So, when I stepped up to shoot the free throw, that’s the most nervous I’ve been in years,” Jordan said. “The reason being is those kids heard the stories from the parents about what I did 30 years ago. So, the expectation is 30 years prior, and I haven’t touched a basketball.”

Tirico then asked if Jordan swished the shot. The response was typical MJ.

“Absolutely,” Jordan said.

With the NBA officially returning to NBC tonight, the network had the perfect intro for the return. They interviewed current stars of the NBA about their memories of the 90’s.

While none of them knew much about it, the cameos from Jordan, Reggie Miller and Patrick Ewing brought back that nostalgia as did the opening theme. Check out the video below:

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan earns disappointing NBA rank

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan reacts to a call during the fourth quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center.

The Chicago Bulls feel like they have a really good head coach. Billy Donovan has done a solid job since taking over, keeping the Bulls from being awful. They haven’t been great, but the coach just earned a significant contract extension, so Chicago believes it has its leader. Unfortunately, one insider isn’t so sure of that, ranking him closer to the bottom of the league when compared to all NBA coaches.

More News: Chicago Bulls reveal devastating injury news on Coby White for start of season

While the Chicago Bulls have not been great under Billy Donovan, many would agree that front office decisions and a lackluster roster have been more at fault for that. Still, in Bleacher Report analyst Lee Escobedo’s rankings, Donovan was placed 21st in the league. That’s lower than a few interesting names:

  • David Adelman
  • Charles Lee
  • Chauncey Billups

“The Florida years still ring bells. Back-to-back NCAA championships will do that. But since coaching in the NBA, Billy Donovan’s been the face of NBA mediocrity,” Escobedo wrote. “In Chicago, he’s managed just one playoff appearance in five seasons, two straight under .500 finishes, and a play-in flameout last season that felt inevitable. Statistically, his Bulls teams have hovered around league average across the board.”

The success hasn’t been there in the NBA for Donovan, but it’s hard to pin down whether or not that’s entirely his fault. Could another coach have made the DeMar DeRozan Zach LaVine core work? That was always a hard sell, and the current roster isn’t rife with star power, either.

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Golden State Warriors

“His Oklahoma City tenure told a similar story. Donovan inherited Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, reached the 2016 Western Conference Finals and then watched a 3-1 lead disappear to Golden State. That remains the high-water mark of his NBA career,” Escobedo continued. “So yes, the Bulls’ decision to extend Donovan makes sense from a stability standpoint. He’s steady, if not pedestrian. Even respected by his peers. But under his stewardship, Chicago has remained a treadmill.”

In Escobedo’s eyes, the Bulls could do a lot better. They could also do a lot worse, so it’s not all that surprising that the front office has thrown its lot fully in with Donovan for the foreseeable future.

Chicago Bulls’ Matas Buzelis puts NBA on notice after win over Pistons

Chicago Bulls' Matas Buzelis

The Chicago Bulls had a 20-point lead in the third quarter, but a furious run by the Detroit Pistons in the fourth quarter saw three total ties in the game’s final three minutes. The hosting Bulls persevered to pull off a 115-111 win in front of 21,381 fans at the United Center on Wednesday night.

Chicago was led by an impressive performance by Nikola Vucevic. The 34-year-old big man recorded 28 points, 14 rebounds and two assists.

Forward Matas Buzelis could be scary in his second year in the association. He scored 21 points and added six rebounds and an assist in 34 minutes as a starter on Wednesday night.

Following the win, Buzelis gave a warning to the rest of the NBA that the physical way they played against the Pistons is going to be how they play the rest of the season.

“It’s extremely important because this is going to build the foundation of how we’re going to play the rest of the season,” Buzelis said, via Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Buzelis believes he can be a go-to-guy for the Bulls this season.

“I think I can be a go-to guy, but it comes down to whatever the team needs me to do to win games,” he said. “The NBA now is positionless, so whoever has a heater, whoever has it going, that’s who we’re going to go to. If it’s my night, it’s my night.

“If it’s not, I’m going to have to do the dirty work, defend as hard as possible, do the little things to impact the game.”

Chicago looked resilient and impressive on Wednesday night, playing without point guard Coby White, who will miss at least the first six games with a calf issue.

The Bulls will next travel to play the 1-0 Orlando Magic on Saturday.

Chicago Bulls predicted to have All-Star after surprising upset win

The Chicago Bulls had an unenviable opening matchup: the Detroit Pistons without Coby White. Yet, Chicago pulled out a win and surprised everyone. They looked pretty great in doing so. In fact, the team looked so good that one insider is ready to say that this team will have an All-Star this year, and it’s not even clear which player that will be.

Chicago Bulls could have multiple All-Star-level players this season

More News: Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan earns disappointing NBA rank

The natural All-Star candidate is second-year forward Matas Buzelis. He has limitless potential and started to really look good in preseason. That, plus the unknown factor of Buzelis, meant that he was a likely All-Star candidate, and through one game, that’s been the case. However, according to Bleacher Report insider Andy Bailey, he’s not the only one who could make it to that level.

“Even without Coby White, the Bulls opened their season with a 115-111 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. And three different players were a big part of the upset,” Bailey wrote. “Buzelis had 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting and blocked three shots for good measure. Two-time All-Star Nikola Vučević had 28 points and 14 boards.”

Everyone looked pretty great, but the combination of a hot finish to 2024-25 and a really solid opening night suggests that one player is the most likely to get an All-Star nod. “But the likeliest All-Star might be Josh Giddey, who closed his 2024-25 averaging 20.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 9.6 assists over his last 18 games and had 19 points and 11 assists on Wednesday,” Bailey continued. “If he keeps stacking up lines like that, and the Bulls are around .500 when All-Star picks are made, he could sneak in.”

Regardless, the fact that Chicago won without White, who could also generate All-Star buzz himself, is impressive. Doing it in such a manner that it’s not clear who the best player on the team will be this season is an even bigger win, and it suggests that all the talk of another mediocre season in the windy city may be totally overblown. For at least one night, things are really looking up for the Bulls, which has been a long time coming.

One final hurdle remains for Coby White’s Chicago Bulls return

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) drives to the basket against the Charlotte Hornets during the second half at Spectrum Center.

The preseason of the Bulls ended with a 126-120 victory over Minnesota. The outcome was promising on paper, but one of the most important missing links was obvious: Coby White. He has been out all preseason with a calf strain and has not yet recorded a minute of play. The organization is slowly reintroducing him. He has not been cleared by the front office and the medical staff. He is near, yes, but there is one last obstacle between fans and seeing him back in the Bulls rotation.

Impact of Coby White’s Potential Bulls Return

Progress in the Bulls camp has been steady on White’s physical rehab. He has significantly progressed in conditioning, controlled activity, shooting, all the elements you would anticipate in the recovery of a player of his caliber.

He is being observed by the medical staff every day, but contact is the final significant obstacle. In a recent interview, the head coach stated that White needs to demonstrate that he can withstand full-court play without failures. It implies additional scrimmages, live drills, and even partial contact in practices. It is the last test before he can be returned to game action.

It is interesting to mention that both fans and punters are also following his recovery program very closely, as this will have a significant impact on the betting markets. It’s no surprise that offshore sports betting sites that are tested and reviewed by experts might start reviewing their odds. With the Bulls +7.5 at odds of about 1.91 to spread and the Cavaliers -7.5 on upcoming games, there’s no doubt that White’s potential return will have an impact on them.

That change highlights the extent to which a single player can influence, not only on the field, but also in the perception of markets of a game balance, but more importantly this will also be a morale booster to the team.

Recovery Has Been Careful and Not Rushed

The conditioning of White has been positive. He is now doing light scrimmages, dribbling in tight areas, faking pivot moves, and straining in lateral cuts. All of that is important. Since contact is a different story, as it may cause residual pain or swelling, the Bulls can’t rush that test. The team knows that trying to rush the process is a dangerous thing to do, to White’s physical form right now and his momentum in the future.

Context of a Contract Year Adds Weight

Chicago Bulls Coby White

This is further pressured by the fact that it is a contract year. White is going into the season with high expectations. He averaged 20.4 points per game last year, with modest rebounds and assists, a career high.

That production brought him more notice throughout the league, and in a weakened Eastern Conference, his robust and productive presence is all the more precious. With Boston and Indiana already having injury issues this year, a good performance by White would change the tide in Chicago’s direction.

All Eyes on Contact Drills This Week

The coaching personnel have shown patience as White prepares to return. As Donovan has pointed out, White’s process will require some time, particularly considering the nature of lower-leg injuries. He commented that regardless of how hard a player practices, it is difficult to match the physical condition of a person who has played full games.

The big question now is how White will react to an increase in contact, how his muscles, tendons, nerves will resist impact, stress, changes of direction.

Monitoring Practice Will Be Key

Although White is not guaranteed to come back, it does seem like it is about to happen. The build-up has inspired hope among teammates, staff, media, and the fan base. Everyone sees what he brings. What only remains is the last physical test, which will determine whether he is really ready to pick up where he left off.
