The odds are out for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets — who is favored?

The Cleveland Browns opened as 1.5-point underdogs against the New York Jets ahead of their Week 10 match-up, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under on the game is 36.5.

The Browns (2-6) are coming off of their bye week, but before that, they were dismantled by the New England Patriots. Cleveland has been having the same story for much of the season: a feared defense, but an unbearable offense that is so bad that eventually, the defense lets up. Even in Cleveland’s two wins, the offense hardly seemed to contribute. Kevin Stefanski has made one big change on offense during the bye week, hoping that it delivers a spark.

The Jets (1-7) were winless and looked like they would be 0-8 heading into their bye, until they pulled off an unexpected, last second victory over the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago. What had been an even more inept offense than Cleveland, ended up being a 500+ yard explosion under QB Justin Fields, who was criticized by the Jets team owner the week before. But will Myles Garrett, who had five sacks in his last outing, be able to create havoc on Fields again?

Browns roster, salary cap: Team does right by veteran and saves money

For anything related to the Cleveland Browns, the word “guaranteed” holds a special place in the depths of the hell that has been the team’s fortunes since “The Return.“ QB Deshaun Watson’s deal was so bad that NFL owners, reportedly, tried to collude to keep others from getting all of their money for sure.

The concept of guaranteed contracts came up again this offseason with second-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft.

With the 2025 NFL trade deadline just around the corner, the Browns made two moves on Monday, with WR Cedric Tillman designated for return and S Damontae Kazee being released.

A new detail of Kazee’s release adds an interesting dynamic with Cleveland saving $200,000 of money that was guaranteed to the safety to facilitate his release:

Playing in his ninth season, the Browns signed Kazee in free agency late in the process. The team also added veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins, who is reportedly available in a trade before Tuesday’s deadline.

While Jenkins has played over 200 total snaps in eight games this season for Cleveland, Kazee has only played in 48 snaps (11 on defense) in his four contests.

The Browns “did right” by the veteran safety and saved some money in the process for a player who wasn’t getting on the field. A win-win situation.

NFL trade deadline: 3 trades already that will impact the Browns in 4 ways

The Cleveland Browns have made one small move so far at the NFL trade deadline, but the whole NFL world is talking about the New York Jets. The Browns won’t miss Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, so moving up a round in next year’s NFL draft is a helpful piece of business.

With under two hours to go until the trade deadline passes, rumors have been swirling all day that the Jets were open to making big moves, which could lead to WR Garrett Wilson being in play for the Browns. So far on deadline day, three trades have happened that could directly impact Cleveland in four different ways.

The Browns were on the bye last week, but football is back for Cleveland fans this week as they get ready to take on the New York Jets. Even though the confidence meter hit single digits last week, perhaps fans will build up one last steam of optimism heading into the second half of the season, especially since a win might be coming this week against a Jets team that was selling at the trade deadline. You also have the fact that Kevin Stefanski gave up playcalling duties again, which perhaps could lead to some more structured playcalling.

We’re asking two other questions this week, the first of which asks if you approve of how the Browns handled the trade deadline. It’s either a “Yes” or “No” answer, but there could be several different feelings you have about it. Maybe you agree that the team shouldn’t have traded away any key players like David Njoku or Myles Garrett, and that makes you happy. Or, maybe you think the team is not going anywhere and was dumb for not being sellers. You may also be upset or content that the team didn’t really add a difference maker on offense. For the purposes of this poll, you should also try to favor in the trades for Tyson Campbell and Cam Robinson.

Our other question asks what your expectations are for this week’s Browns vs. Jets game. With the Jets only having one win and being sellers on defense at the trade deadline, should Cleveland be ready to feast for another dominant win like they had against Miami?

David Njoku excited to still be with the Browns

The NFL trade deadline is a stressful time for teams and players.

On the team side, the question of whether to be a “buyer or a seller” is an important one as general managers keep one eye on the standings and the other on the upcoming schedule.

For players, there can be daily reports that you are a trade candidate, which, if it happens, means uprooting in the middle of a season and then working to quickly fit in with a new team. Plus, there is the emotional side of having to quickly process that your current team no longer wants your services.

There are also times when the move comes as a surprise, and a player is forced to leave a team and a community that they called home. That was the case with current Cleveland defensive tackle Shelby Harris, who was part of the trade the Denver Broncos made with the Seattle Seahawks for quarterback Russell Wilson in 2022.

Harris had signed an extension with the Broncos, had a child in high school, and had family living close by. But heading to Seattle sent Harris into a bit of a downward spiral, as he told The Athletic:

“I was in a full-on depressed state because if I’m going to be honest, there were so many real emotions that went through my head when I got traded. Like, one, ‘I’m going to this team, they’re about to suck.’ They’re trading Russell Wilson and I’m about to go to the depths of hell pretty much to play for this crappy team in Seattle. And after all the work I put in all these years, now Denver is going to be this good team.

“It was so frustrating and sad, and honestly, I can even say my time in Seattle was stained by that trade because I didn’t want to be there. I was miserable the whole year. I let it affect my relationship with coaches, players. I was not the same person that I pride myself on. That year in Seattle, I became a different person. That trade really changed a lot for me.”

One player who fell into the speculation category this year was Cleveland tight end David Njoku, who is in the final year of his contract. With Cleveland’s season going nowhere, Njoku’s name was tied to trade rumors, especially after the Green Bay Packers lost tight end Tucker Kraft to a torn ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers.

The Browns resisted the urge to trade their starting tight end, and on Wednesday, Njoku expressed his enthusiasm for staying in town:

“It is always a possibility in the NFL (to be traded). But I’m in Cleveland, baby, and I’m not going anywhere. I am not leaving ever. I am so happy for real, and I am not leaving.”

It is refreshing to hear Njoku say he wants to stay with the Browns, the only team he has played for in his nine-year career. Things have not always gone well during his tenure, Njoku was a rookie on the infamous 0-16 team of 2017, but the fact that he does not have one foot out the door is a good sign.

Whether or not the Browns feel the same way will be revealed in the next few months as general manager Andrew Berry needs to determine if Njoku is worthy of a contract extension, or if the club is comfortable with moving Harold Fannin Jr. into the top tight end role and letting Njoku continue his career elsewhere.

If Njoku and the Browns do agree on a contract extension, Njoku will have the opportunity to continue his climb up the franchise’s all-time list, where he is currently No. 3 in receptions (378), No. 12 in receiving yards (4,029), and tied for No. 7 in touchdown receptions (32).

Browns vs Jets: Injuries lingering despite bye weeks

While the Cleveland Browns roster looks mostly unchanged since they last took the field, for a variety of reasons, the New York Jets have had a makeover courtesy of the NFL trade deadline heading into the Week 10 matchup between the AFC foes.

Both teams are coming off their bye weeks with a couple of changes, beyond the Jets trades. The Browns have a new offensive play caller, while New York has benched LB Quincy Williams on the day after trading his younger brother away. Despite coming off their byes, both teams had a number of players limited or not participating in practice on Wednesday

The Cleveland Browns take on the New York Jets this Sunday. With both teams coming off the bye, Cleveland fans have been circling this game as one they surely have to win, right? It became even more obvious after the Jets traded away their top two defenders this week. The experts agree, taking a clean sweep of predictions in favor of the Browns. With that said, all of the margins are razor thin, with them seeing both teams having a struggle to get to 20 points.

This is one of the dog games of the week, featuring two teams coming off a bye. Both needed it. Both teams have quarterback issues, but at least the Browns have the better defense. The Jets traded away captains Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams this week. That won’t play well. I think the Browns win it behind their defense.

Browns vs. Jets: Week 10 Need to Know

The Cleveland Browns open the second half of their 2025 NFL Season on Sunday when they take on the New York Jets.

Both teams are coming off their bye week and are in a close race with the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, and Las Vegas Raiders to see who has what it takes to claim the No. 1 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The game marks the debut of offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as the play caller on offense for the Browns. Rees will attempt to inject some life into quarterback Dillon Gabriel and a moribund offense in the hopes that the team does not have to pull the circus tent out of mothballs to accommodate another quarterback change.

As for the Jets, head coach Aaron Glenn has his own quarterback issues, as he continues to ponder the choice between Justin Fields, statistically one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, and Tyrod Taylor, who simply can’t stay healthy. They also traded away their two best defensive players, cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, and benched former All-Pro linebacker Quincy Williams.

Browns, Jets injury report for Week 10: 1 out, 8 questionable

Two teams that have combined to win three games have three times that many players listed on their final injury report for Week 10. The Cleveland Browns hope to bounce back after their bye week with a new offensive play caller and some positive injury news on Friday. The New York Jets are also coming off their bye week, but spent the NFL trade deadline dealing away two of their best players.

Given the number of teams that are struggling this season, including 14 of them with three or fewer wins, the loser of Week 10’s matchup between the Browns and the Jets might just be the winner for the 2026 NFL draft.

Friday afternoon has arrived and both teams have sent out their injury reports with game day designations for when Cleveland travels to New York.

Cleveland Browns fans sound off on the team’s trade deadline moves, and if they can beat the Jets

During the season, Cleveland Browns fans vote in SB Nation Reacts to express their confidence level in the team or their thoughts on other topics.

The Browns are coming off the bye, and saw fan confidence tick up by 9 percentage points up to 18%. It’s nothing drastic, but it’s the type of small bump I expected because Cleveland fans didn’t have to suffer through the stigma of a loss last week. I think some of the bump has to do with the expectations that they’ll beat the Jets this week too. Speaking of the Jets, their confidence sits pretty high at 56% for a 1-7 team. At first, I thought maybe it was that high because fans loved the haul of first-round picks the organization acquired during the trade deadline. However, it was actually the win over the Bengals (before their bye) that propelled the fan confidence up to the 50s.

We asked two other questions to fans this week, the first of which asked if fans approved of how the Browns handled the trade deadline. Only 28% of fans gave that approval, which I think was a bit harsh. The team was not going to drastically upgrade the offense, and would rather grow through the upcoming draft. The Cam Robinson trade hasn’t quite done anything positive yet, but it was a decent effort. Tyson Campbell also looks like he could be a nice fit for the defense.

Our other question asked who fans expect to win this weekend’s Browns vs. Jets game. 64% of Browns fans think Cleveland will get the win, while 36% see the Jets coming out on top.

The Cleveland Browns are back in action today as they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Both teams should be rested and ready for some football after enjoying their bye weeks.

Both teams will look a bit different as Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski has turned over the offensive playcalling to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, and the Jets decided to embrace a lost season by trading away cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
