Browns OLine severely limits options for offense, Kevin Stefanski

gettyimages-2227123873.jpg

The Cleveland Browns dropped to 1-5 for the 2025 NFL season after another brutal loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Once again, the defense did not receive any help from the offense, but they were not perfect either. Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers was able to pick apart the vaunted Browns defense with quick throws and misdirection that kept DE Myles Garrett from having time to make an impact.

RB Jaylen Warren had some important runs, but Cleveland’s defense did hold Pittsburgh under 100 yards rushing for the game.

Injuries during the game came later and really didn’t cause the paltry performance by the offense. TE David Njoku had three receptions before going out. OT Jack Conklin’s injury had a bigger impact, but the Browns offensive line was struggling before he went out.

While fans look for who is to blame, the hope for Cleveland’s offensive roster was obviously held together by duct tape and chicken wire since the offseason:

  • IF Joe Flacco finds magic again and stops turning the ball over
  • IF Jerry Jeudy’s 2024 season wasn’t a fluke
  • IF the offensive line found themselves after a return to the wide zone scheme
  • IF Cedric Tillman developed as a #2 receiver
  • IF David Njoku could be a huge weapon in the middle of the field
  • IF three rookies (Quinshon Judkins, Harold Fannin Jr., Dylan Sampson) could carry the run game and provide a spark to help on a regular basis

So far, none of those things have happened on a regular basis (unless you consider Judkins and Fannin having met their goals).

Many want to blame GM Andrew Berry and/or HC Kevin Stefanski for the struggles on offense. While they share responsibility, the reality is that the Browns offensive line gives the offense and Stefanski almost no options.

Why?

The group is not fast/quick enough to be successful in movement-based concepts. Whether that is screen plays, wide zone runs, bootlegs or pulls, the offensive line is a step or more too slow. Age, along with wear and tear, has sapped the interior of the offensive line, Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller and Ethan Pocic, from their ability to get out and move. Similarly, Jack Conklin’s injuries, on top of Dawand Jones’ before he was lost for the season, have kept the right tackle from playing or being able to play quickly.

What happens when your offensive line can’t move quickly? Generally, you plan to play with power, strength and weight. Except that Cleveland’s offensive line was among the lower third in offensive line weight coming into the season, and that was with the massive Jones starting at left tackle. Bitonio, Teller, Pocic and Conklin have all been good because of their foot speed and use of leverage, not their ability to just bull people over with sheer power.

If your offensive line does not have quickness or power, you are significantly limited in what you can do. Even if a unit doesn’t have experience or overall talent, having one of those traits allows the offensive play caller to tailor the offense in a certain direction.

The Browns do not have either option.

Blame Berry. Blame Stefanski. Blame Dillon Gabriel and Flacco. Blame the pass catchers who struggle to get open and catch the football. Blame them all.

The reality is that it is very difficult to make an offense go when the line is both A) not good AND B) does not have either quickness or strength to build upon.

As trade rumors will continue to heat up, the focus in Cleveland is squarely on the 2026 NFL draft and beyond. The Browns most likely need a highly drafted quarterback, a talented wide receiver, and three or four new starters on their offensive line. While the first two positions are more exciting, the line is more important, especially with most of the current players set for free agency (or retirement).

Who or what do you blame most for the Browns struggles on offense? Given the personnel on the offensive line, what do you think the team could do to perform better?

Browns stadium drama ends: Owners, Cleveland officials get what they want

gettyimages-2231522455.jpg

The “Only in Cleveland” parts of the Cleveland Browns stadium drama may have finally come to an end on the Monday after Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season. There are still a few things, like having enough parking spaces, aviation approvals and getting everything built in time, to figure out, but the Browns will be playing in Brook Park without having to overcome any legal hurdles with the City of Cleveland.

We’ve seen a map of what the reimagined Brook Park area will look like once the team gets done building everything, with funding fully secured. All that was left was to figure out how Mayor Justin Bibb and the Haslam Sports Group would resolve the legal matters.

In the end, both sides got exactly what they wanted. The Browns get to build their new fancy domed stadium and Bibb gets a boatload of cash for the City of Cleveland in what is being called a “Historic $100 million Agreement.” The details of that agreement include a cash payment of $25 million in the next month and a half and the Haslam Sports Group’s demolition of the current stadium, at an estimated cost of $30 million.

The rest of the details are as follows:

  • Beginning on January 1, 2029, pay the City of Cleveland $5 million on or before January 1 of each calendar year until January 1, 2033, totaling $25 million over five years.
  • Upon termination of the Lease, HSG to invest no less than $2 million per year over the next 10 years on a mutually agreed Community Benefit Projects totaling no less than $20 million.
  • Parties to mutually support infrastructure plans related to road and air travel with respect to both the Brook Park stadium mixed-use project, the modernization of Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, the development of the Cleveland lakefront, including the redevelopment of the Burke Lakefront Airport property.
  • City to support the continuing progress and timely completion of transformational Brook Park stadium and mixed-use development.
  • Both parties will voluntarily dismiss all lawsuits with prejudice related to Browns Huntington Bank Field move to Brook Park, OH.

A “win-win” for the two parties involved, now we wait to see if any other stadium drama pops up between now and when the new stadium is expected to open in 2029.

What stands out to you about this “historic” agreement? Are you surprised the two sides came to agreement already?

Browns roster sees 3 added, including a former Dolphin, OL down loses 2nd in 2 days

gettyimages-2231737431.jpg

The Cleveland Browns made a few roster changes on Tuesday, including, surprisingly, releasing an offensive tackle from the practice squad for the second straight day. On Monday, the Browns released OT Thayer Munford from the practice squad and followed that up with the release of OT Joshua Miles on Tuesday.

Cleveland is at a place where they need to see a few younger players get more playing time, but continue GM Andrew Berry’s history of continually churning the bottom of the roster and practice squad.

In the same post where the Browns shared WR David Bell’s retirement, for sad reasons, and the release of Miles, Cleveland announced signing CB Trey Avery to their active roster and adding LB Eugene Asante and DT Simeon Barrow Jr.

Avery was elevated to the active roster for the last three weeks.

Asante was a 2025 undrafted free agent signing of the Miami Dolphins, but was waived at the end of August. The Browns welcome the Dolphins to town this week. Simeon was also signed as an undrafted free agent this year, with the Atlanta Falcons, and spent a week on the team’s practice squad before being released.

Bill Callahan back to the Browns? Team provides an update

gettyimages-1454740209.jpg

All of Northeast Ohio has been pining for an update regarding Bill Callahan and his prospects of returning to Cleveland after he recently left Tennessee when his son, Brian, was fired.

Bill, the Browns’ offensive line coach from 2020 to 2023, was a crucial piece to Cleveland’s coaching staff during his time with the team. He was famously known for reshaping and reinvigorating the Browns’ offensive line and helping lead the team to the playoffs.

Stefanski first commented on Brian Callahan’s firing in a recent media session:

“Obviously I hate to see that news down there in Tennessee. I talked to Brian, I’ve not talked to Bill. Obviously I hate that news.”

As a coach, you always feel bad when you see your friends or fellow coaches lose their jobs, regardless of the stated reason. Despite what some think, trying to coach a team that lacks the talent and tools to succeed in a given period is quite challenging.

On the idea of the Browns reuniting with Bill Callahan at some point, Stefanski said:

“Obviously I think very highly of (Bill)”

But he declined to comment on whether or not he’d rehire Callahan in Cleveland. The way Stefanski went about handling the question kind of gave off the vibes that he’s not really interested in the idea right now.

Stefanski was really excited to bring in Mike Bloomgren this offseason and probably wants to stick with “his guy” right now, especially if the team is planning on cleaning house in the offensive line room in 2026 (which they definitely should).

Could this be the end of the road for Kevin Stefanski? Browns Reacts Survey Week 7

gettyimages-2240677987.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Browns fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

This week, we saw the Tennessee Titans act pretty swiftly in firing head coach Brian Callahan after less than two years with the team. Could the same fate be on the horizon for head coach Kevin Stefanski? That is the theme for this week’s Reacts questions, starting with our confidence meter on if the Browns are headed in the right direction. With the team being 1-5 and showing no sign of life offensively, how can you be confident in what’s to come? Even the defense is already losing their mojo.

We’re asking two other questions this week. The first is a flat out Yes or No on whether you think the Browns will beat the Dolphins this Sunday. This is the first game this season in which Cleveland is favored, but Vegas odds aren’t going to dictate whether the Browns can actually put points on the board.

Our other question sets the ultimatum: if the Browns lose to the also-dysfunctional Dolphins, is it the final straw for Stefanski? Let us know if you would fire him or keep him, if Cleveland loses.

Browns vs. Dolphins Week 7 predictions: Being a favorite doesn’t mean squat

gettyimages-2239419029.jpg

The Cleveland Browns are finally favored to win a football game, but that doesn’t mean squat in terms of the recent performance of the Browns. They have lost three straight games, their defense has been more stagnant over the past two games, and the offense had one of its worst games of the season last week. Just because the 1-5 Miami Dolphins are coming to down does not mean the Browns are going to suddenly perform. Take a look back at when the Browns lost to the Ravens — people looked at it like, “Baltimore is back on track, to a degree,” but it ended up being their only win of the season to date. Nonetheless, playing a 1-5 team should improve your odds of getting something going, even if it means the other team is going to mess up more.

Here is what the national media is saying about the Week 7 game between the Browns and Dolphins:

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco) – Browns 26, Dolphins 23

This is the dog game of the day between two bottom feeders. The Browns haven’t done much on offense with Dillon Gabriel playing, but the Dolphins defense will be the perfect tonic. They can’t stop anybody. The Browns defense can. That’s the difference.

CBS Sports (John Breech) – Browns 20, Dolphins 17

Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer) – Browns 20, Dolphins 17

The Browns’ offense isn’t scoring enough to win most games, leaning plenty on dominant total defense led by Myles Garrett. The Dolphins’ defense is leaky and might help them break out of a slump. Meanwhile, Miami’s offense also has been a mess of late, not helping at all vs. an angry Garrett.

Sporting News (Bill Bender) – Dolphins 20, Browns 17

A pair of 1-5 teams meet, and Tua Tagovailoa is on the spot here after calling out teammates following a 29-27 loss to the Chargers. Cleveland has not scored more than 17 points in a game this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Dillon Gabriel is 9 of 27 (33%) on passes of 10 yards or more. Will Cleveland turn him loose against the Dolphins? Miami beat Cleveland 20-3 last season.

Browns, Dolphins Week 7: Betting totals dropping, weather to play big role

gettyimages-455620726.jpg

The Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins face off in what many believe will be an ugly game on the shores of Lake Erie in Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season. The 1-5 Browns vs the 1-5 Dolphins could be a loser-leaves-town matchup between HC Kevin Stefanski and HC Mike McDaniel.

Miami going on the road, and QB Tua Tagovailoa calling his team out, has Cleveland sitting as a 2.5 point favorite for this week’s game. To open the week, the game had a total of just under 40 points (39.5). With the Dolphins scoring 21 or more points in five of their six games, that line was a strong indicator of what is expected of the Browns offense (and a little their defense) in Week 7.

Now, that total has dropped a full three points (a significant number with such a low total). No other game this week is below 40.5.

The reason for the drop? Likely, weather, specifically wind gusts:

Weather.png

There is obviously a large difference between the 36 mph forecast and the potential for 60 mph winds, but with two quarterbacks that lack strong arms, those are big numbers.

We will continue to monitor the forecast to see if updates are warranted heading into Sunday’s matchup between two 1-5 teams.

Curious case of DT Mike Hall gets clarity: Multiple injuries, surgeries

gettyimages-2231649064.jpg

Last week, we asked the question “What the heck is going on with Mike Hall Jr.?” The Cleveland Browns did not put Hall on the injured reserve or physically unable to perform lists at the start of the 2025 NFL season, but the second-round pick from 2024 has missed six games and the Browns roster could have used another player in that role until Hall got healthy.

Heading into Week 7 of the season against the Miami Dolphins, Hall is one of five Cleveland players who will be listed as questionable for the game. With a new injury to DT Mason Graham, Hall’s availability could be needed.

Following practice, Hall informed the media, the first time communicated from any source, that he had multiple surgeries due to multiple injuries:

#Browns Mike Hall Jr. said he suffered a torn MCL and a dislocated knee and had two separate surgeries, including the last one in April.

— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) October 17, 2025

The timing of the surgeries, as well as the severity of his injuries, explains the length of time it has taken the second-year pro to get back on the field. It does not, however, explain the team’s decision to keep him active to start the season.

Hall noted that he is close to being able to play this week, but did not say whether he’s had setbacks during training camp or during the season that would have delayed his progress.

Browns vs. Dolphins: Week 7 Need to Know

gettyimages-2194705251.jpg

The Cleveland Browns are back home on Sunday to face the Miami Dolphins.

In what was arguably the worst road trip since the Griswold family decided to visit Wally World, the Browns spent the past month visiting Detroit (where they have only won once in franchise history), London (where they have never won a regular-season game), and Pittsburgh (where they have now lost 22 consecutive regular-season games).

The resulting three-game losing streak has the mob thirsting for blood at the first sign of trouble come Sunday. Coming to the rescue, theoretically, is a Miami team that has only beaten the hapless New York Jets, but has seen its starting quarterback publicly question his teammates and has a head coach with one-and-a-half feet out the door.

It is the one-win Browns vs. the one-win Dolphins in Week 7 – can you feel the excitement? — and here is everything to know about the game.

In Case You Missed It

A Final Quote

Cleveland safety Grant Delpit on the difficulties of being 1-5, from reporter Cleveland 19 Ashly Holder:

“I don’t even know what that winning feeling feels like anymore. I forgot that feeling. We’re chasing that feeling, man, and doing everything we can to do to get it back and not turn on each other.”

Browns, Dolphins practice squad elevation decisions for Week 7

imagn-16082532.jpg

The Cleveland Browns face what could be a must-win game for HC Kevin Stefanski while still realistically in the AFC North picture after the Cincinnati Bengals upended the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. The Browns roster faces a lot of questions this week, with TE David Njoku ruled out for Sunday and five other players listed as questionable.

Last week, many wondered if QB Bailey Zappe would be elevated from the practice squad to backup QB Dillon Gabriel. Instead, QB Shedeur Sanders took that role with just the two rookies active for Week 6. With the number of injury concerns in Week 7, Cleveland’s practice squad decisions could be telling.

As of 2 PM Saturday, the Browns have not elevated anyone from the practice squad. The deadline is in a couple of hours, but the team has regularly announced those decisions by this point. The Miami Dolphins elevated LB Quinton Bell and CB Kendal Sheffield for the game on Sunday.

We will update the post if Cleveland makes any elevations, but for now, no elevations would be a good sign that a few of the Browns questionable players will see the field on Sunday.

When Myles Garrett talks, the Browns coaches listen

gettyimages-2242062581.jpg

Back in the 1970s, the brokerage firm EF Hutton launched a successful ad campaign centered on the premise that “When EF Hutton talks, people listen.”

Fifty-plus years later, it may be time to add “When Myles Garrett talks, the coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns listens.”

With the Browns struggling to find a rhythm on offense and a consistent effort on defense in the midst of a three-game losing streak, Garrett expressed his frustrations in the lead-up to today’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Garrett called for more runs from the offense, specifically from rookie running back Quinshon Judkins; a more aggressive approach from the defense; and, if it was not too much of a bother, perhaps giving the defense a double-digit lead to protect.

It was only one week, but consider it “message received” after the Browns spent a rainy Sunday afternoon dominating the Dolphins at Huntington Bank Field in a 31-6 victory.

Quinshon Judkins 46-yard TD!

MIAvsCLE on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/tEkT7aMNZx

— NFL (@NFL) October 19, 2025

Judkins did his part by scoring Cleveland’s first touchdown of the game on a 46-yard run in the second quarter. That was the first of three rushing touchdowns for Judkins on the day, as he rushed 25 times for 84 yards to help the Browns total 104 rushing yards against the league’s worst rushing defense.

The defense dialed up the pressure on Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and came through with three interceptions, including a pick-6 by cornerback Tyson Campbell to open the second half. Safeties Ronnie Hickman and Rayshawn Jenkins added interceptions on consecutive drives in the fourth quarter.

Early payoff for the CB trade with the #Jaguars, as Tyson Campbell has a pick-6 for the #Browns. pic.twitter.com/YbpxODCsXR

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 19, 2025

As for building a double-digit lead, the offense accomplished that in the first half thanks to a 30-yard field goal from Andre Szmyt and a pair of touchdown runs from Judkins. Campbell’s interception return for a touchdown quickly extended the lead in the third quarter to 18 points, and the Browns never looked back.

It was only one game, and it came against a Miami team that is even worse shape than the Browns. Still, for the third consecutive game, quarterback Dillon Gabriel did not commit a turnover, the ground game did its part, and the defense held the Dolphins to their lowest point total of the season and just 219 yards of total offense.

Can’t wait to see what Garrett tells the coaches to do next week against the New England Patriots!

Browns defense brings the blitz from the secondary in Week 7 vs Dolphins

gettyimages-2242066715.jpg

The Cleveland Browns’ defense lit up the Dolphins in Week 7. Unlike the past few weeks, when quarterbacks got the ball out quick, you could tell that Tua was lost and out of his element, and the Browns smelled blood in the water. The best statistic of all was that Miami was just 1-of-11 (7.7%) on third down, and also 2-of-4 (50%) on fourth down. Cleveland forced three turnovers on the defensive side of the ball, all interceptions, and held Tua to 100 yards passing.

Below, we analyze the snap counts and stats on defense for the Cleveland Browns’ Week 7 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Defensive Line

PosPlayerPlays% SnapsStats
DLMason Graham4374%3 tackles (3 combined). 1 TFL, 1 pass defended.
DLMyles Garrett4069%2 tackles (2 combined). 1 sack, 2 TFL, 2 QH.
DLMaliek Collins3560%1 tackle (1 combined).
DLAlex Wright3255%4 tackles, 1 assist (5 combined). 2 TFL.
DLIsaiah McGuire3052%1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). 1 TFL.
DLShelby Harris2950%1 tackle, 2 assists (3 combined). 1 QH.
DLCameron Thomas1933%1 assist (1 combined).
DLAdin Huntington47%1 assist (1 combined).
  • It was great to see Myles Garrett back on the sack sheet, and he also had a run stop for a loss. He was the Browns’ third-highest graded player on defense by PFF, grading out to an 85.5.
  • The Browns also had standout performances up front from Mason Graham (79.0), Alex Wright (84.3), Shelby Harris (73.2), Maliek Collins (71.9), and Isaiah McGuire (71.7). It’s a great day when you have that many defensive linemen graded in the 70s.
  • Adin Huntington exited early with a concussion.

Linebacker

PosPlayerPlays% SnapsStats
LBCarson Schwesinger4984%3 tackles, 3 assists (6 combined). 1 TFL.
LBDevin Bush4171%3 tackles, 3 assists (6 combined).
LBJerome Baker1628%1 tackle, 2 assists (3 combined). 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 FF.
LBMohamoud Diabate1221%No stats registered.
LBEaston Mascarenas-Arnold12%1 tackle (1 combined).
  • Even though there was at least one play where we saw Carson Schwesinger darting through to get a tackle for a loss, for the third week in a row, he was one of the Browns’ lowest-graded defenders. In fact, he was graded the worst this week with a 54.9, per PFF. I think we’re seeing teams break open some plays that Schwesinger is committing to too early, and then he’s chasing from behind before you know it.
  • Devin Bush continues his solid season, as he graded out to a 78.0. Jerome Baker also graded highly with an 86.6, despite having just 16 snaps.

Cornerback

PosPlayerPlays% SnapsStats
CBTyson Campbell4984%1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). 1 INT, 2 passes defended, 1 TD.
CBDenzel Ward4679%3 tackles (3 combined).
CBMyles Harden2950%2 tackles, 1 assist (3 combined). 1 TFL, 1 pass defended.
CBTre Avery1221%1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined).
CBDom Jones1221%1 tackle (1 combined).
  • Everyone is singing the praises of Tyson Campbell. I often talk about the negative point swings that a guy on offense like Jerry Jeudy has had this season, but Campbell had quite a few positive point swings this week. He used his speed to chase down RB De’Von Achane and prevent a touchdown, and then began the second half with a pick six. Meanwhile, Greg Newsome is helping the Browns cause by allowing touchdowns in Jacksonville. Campbell graded out to a 74.2 by PFF, with his run defense being dinged.
  • According to PFF, Denzel Ward had 2 pass rushing snaps, as Cleveland seemed to bring blitzes from more unique spots this week, as opposed to just linebackers coming.
  • Myles Harden nearly had an interception, but couldn’t hang on to it.
  • When the Browns were up big, they put the backups in on defense, which is why you see reps for guys like Tre Avery and Dom Jones.

Safety

PosPlayerPlays% SnapsStats
SRonnie Hickman4984%1 tackle, 1 assist (2 combined). 1 INT, 1 pass defended.
SGrant Delpit4984%2 tackles (2 combined). 1 sack, 1 TFL, 2 QH, 1 FF.
SRayshawn Jenkins2340%1 tackle (1 combined). 1 INT, 1 pass defended, 1 FR.
SDonovan McMillon916%1 tackle (1 combined). 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 QH.
SDamontae Kazee916%No stats registered.
  • What a game for the Browns’ safeties this week. They combined for two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Although, I should note that the fumble was on special teams, so it technically doesn’t count toward defensive snaps and grades (even though I included the fumble stats above).
  • Grant Delpit was brought on 7 pass rushes this week, and I thought a couple of them had Tua rattled, including the interception he threw to Rayshawn Jenkins. Jenkins came in on 3 pass rushes and played his highest volume of snaps (40%) all season.
  • Ronnie Hickman received an elite grade of 92.3 from PFF, excelling in coverage and tackling.

The Browns accomplished something on Sunday that hasn’t been done in decade

gettyimages-2242082775.jpg

The Cleveland Browns defeated the Miami Dolphins at home on Sunday by a score of 31 to 6, and it was undoubtedly an excellent performance by everybody on the team. It’s also no secret that the Browns’ rookie class has been outstanding so far in 2025, and it was this group that was able to accomplish something pretty cool in week 7.

QB Dillon Gabriel, RB Quinshon Judkins, TE Harold Fannin Jr., and LB Carson Schwesinger each led the team in passing, rushing, receiving, and tackling on Sunday. This marked the first time that a group of rookies led a team in all major stat categories in any game this decade.

The @Browns are the first team this decade to have a game where a rookie led them in:

Each one of these players, especially Judkins, Fannin Jr., and Schwesinger, should be cornerstones of the organization going forward, and it’s going to be incredibly exciting and intruiging to see where they lead Cleveland in the future.

Browns Nation is also incredibly interested to see what Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders can do over the course of the 2025 season now that the schedule has become a little easier.

Patriots Drake Maye the next Tom Brady? Opposing defenses have played big role

imagn-27379280.jpg

Getting it out of the way quickly, nothing about this article is an attempt to minimize the opposing quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. For the New England Patriots, QB Drake Maye is one of the big reasons HC Mike Vrabel wanted to go back to the team he played for, despite being passed over for the same position the previous year.

For those unaware, Maye is having a great start to his second season in the NFL. The third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, behind Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. After an okay rookie season, Maye has completed 75% of his passes this year for 1,744 yards with 12 passing TDs and two interceptions. As an added bonus, Maye has carried the ball 44 times for 200 yards and two touchdowns as well.

Maye’s performance in Week 7 had him toppling Patriots great Tom Brady as he set a franchise record by completing 91.3% of his passes. Maye has been historically good:

Drake Maye is the first player in the history of the NFL with 200+ pass attempts and 50 or fewer incompletions in any 7-game span

— Dante Koplowitz-Fleming (@DanteKopFlem) October 21, 2025

He is also, by a decent margin, the most efficent quarterback in the NFL so far this season:

After slight dropoffs from Jared Goff and Sam Darnold last night, there's a new leader in EPA+CPOE — Drake Maye. pic.twitter.com/jqet23RODK

— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) October 21, 2025

Forget the Brady comparisons, Maye now has people talking about Patrick Mahomes’ performances at a young age as the more apt comparison:

Don’t know if there’s ever been film this good from a 22-23 year old QB. 2018 Mahomes is the only one that comes to mind. Please watch the entire 2:43 of this pic.twitter.com/gkglCqfH5N

— Brady Penn (@bradypenn21) October 20, 2025

Now, all of that positivity doesn’t mean Maye is infallible and the Browns are doomed in Week 8 against New England. In fact, Maye will face the best defense he’s seen all year, by far, when he faces off with Myles Garrett and the rest of Jim Schwartz’s defense:

Drake Maye is awesome. Zero doubt in my mind. It’s also comical the level of defenses he has gotten to face this season. EPA ranks of every defense NE has faced this season:
31, 28, 25 (PIT without Highsmith and Porter), 23, 22, 21, 17 (Carolina). Clearly the Browns will be by…

— Clevta (@Clevta) October 21, 2025

Good versus good is one of the best parts of professional sports. For Browns fans, after watching the slop that was the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, it might be shocking to watch Maye orchestrate the Patriots offense this week. Cleveland’s defense must show up on the road if they want to quiet all the praise being heaped on Maye’s start to the season. For now, Maye’s first seven games have been very good, but the quality of opponent gives a slight pause to crowning the youngster just yet.

Do you think Maye’s start is for real or partially due to the less-than-stellar defenses he’s faced? Do you think the Browns defense will bring him back to earth in Week 8?

Browns roster: Mason Graham’s dominance is impossible to ignore in 2025

gettyimages-2241953506.jpg

The Cleveland Browns absolutely crushed it in the 2025 NFL Draft, with almost every one of their rookies contributing at a fairly high level this year.

Despite it taking a little bit of time for some members of the fanbase to recognize the talent level of the team’s 1st-round pick, DT Mason Graham, it seems as though he’s getting more and more publicity every week.

Graham has been absolutely dominating on the interior defensive line alongside Maliek Collins for Cleveland this season, and he’s getting better and better each week. He moves incredibly well for being 6’4”, 315 lbs., and has shown the ability to fight through double-teams with ease against the run in 2025. Something that hasn’t been discussed as often, though, is how he’s able to shed blocks so easily.

The answer is that his technique is top-notch at the point of attack. He always gets full extension with his arms after the snap, which allows him to have the upper hand against blockers almost immediately. Though his “short” 32” arms aren’t ideal, the fact that he knows how to use them to throw offensive linemen around makes up for it.

.@MiamiDolphins @Browns @MasonGraham_55 is a building block..isn't worried ab out much except trying to dominate the next play….You win lots a games when you get this mentality. #dawgpound #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/GqwFGdzpuY

— Brian Baldinger (@BaldyNFL) October 22, 2025

He also has an incredibly high football IQ and knows exactly what’s going on around him at all times. There have been multiple plays like the one above where Graham sees something developing, and he reacts to help stop the play.

As mentioned earlier, it’s also incredible to see him play the run as well. Very few teams have been able to block him 1-on-1, and he’s athletic enough to chase down plays from behind. Going forward, it wouldn’t be surprising to see opposing offenses trying to trap him more often or consistently try to double him in the power game.

Mason Graham has been an absolute stud for Cleveland since day one, and it’s nice to finally see the rest of the NFL world starting to recognize that as well.

NFL trade deadline: OLine among least traded in last 2 decades plus

gettyimages-2242039888.jpg

Call it hope, call it foolish, call it faith, call it homerism, call it optimism, call it whatever you would like, but the Cleveland Browns have a chance to make their season matter again with a win in Week 8. The AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers face a tough test against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. A Browns win against the New England Patriots and a Steelers loss would put Cleveland just one game behind the division leaders.

It would also change the dynamics of the NFL trade deadline.

The Browns roster has been the focus of a lot of trade deadline discussions. If Cleveland pulls out a victory, GM Andrew Berry could be on the phone throughout the team’s bye week, but, unlike if they lose, the calls could be about acquiring players. As we’ve discussed in The Feed, WR Garrett Wilson is an interesting name to watch out for at the trade deadline.

Receiver is a position of need for the Browns, but the offensive line might be a much bigger one, especially for 2026 and beyond. Any Cleveland fan hoping to see the team add a linemen will likely be disappointed, as only seven total have been traded since 2002:

From @sambruchhaus: Here are the positions that get traded the most in October & November.

Which teams can use a WR or EDGE? https://t.co/Kkph84ayAt pic.twitter.com/BJrVMRN2Tz

— SūmerSports (@SumerSports) October 22, 2025

No team, whether competitive or not, has enough good offensive linemen that they can just give them away, no matter what the price, midseason. It is tough enough to acquire decent players up front, much less good ones, that trading quality talent at the position is a rarity. Those numbers also indicate that trading away Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller and/or Ethan Pocic is unlikely for the orange and brown.

The Browns acquired OT Cam Robinson in late September. The veteran fell out of favor quickly after signing with the Houston Texans this offseason. So far, Robinson has been up and down for Cleveland and has not solidified the line as the team may have hoped.

The Browns may be active at the 2025 NFL trade deadline, but don’t expect a starting-level offensive lineman to be on his way to Cleveland.

Browns vs. Patriots Week 8 predictions: Is Cleveland ready to show something on offense?

gettyimages-2242429407.jpg

The Cleveland Browns had a decisive victory last week, but their offense still needs to show vast improvement to be considered a contender. That makes for a clean sweep in predictions of people picking the Patriots this week, coupled with the fact that the Browns are also winless on the road.

Here is what the national media is saying about the Week 8 game between the Browns and Patriots:

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco) – Patriots 24, Browns 14

The Patriots have won three straight on the road to take over first place in the AFC East. They now get a Cleveland team that doesn’t do a ton on offense. The Cleveland defense is a challenge, but Drake Maye will do enough to win this one for the Patriots.

CBS Sports (John Breech) – Patriots 20, Browns 17

Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer) – Patriots 24, Browns 19

The Browns can cause a few defensive problems for Drake Maye but they just don’t play as well overall away from Cleveland. The Patriots are feeling their offense rolling and their defense started to make more big plays last week on the road at Tennessee. This is a little bit more of an offensive grind, but the job gets done.

Sporting News (Bill Bender) – Patriots 22, Browns 16

The Browns are 0-3 S/U on the road this season, and they have lost those games by an average of 20.7 points per game. New England is 3-1 S/U and 3-1 ATS as a home favorite. Drake Maye has a 78.1 completion percentage through a four-game winning streak. The Browns have a total of three sacks in those losses. Will that change here?
