Jack Eichel, Vegas Agree on Huge Extension (Report)

Remember when Connor McDavid signed a short-term extension with the Oilers and there were thoughts that might start a trend around the NHL? That does not appear to be the case.

On Wednesday, two massive extensions got done — taking two big fish out off the 2026 free agent market.

First, the Jets and Kyle Connor agreed to an eight-year, $96M deal ($12M AAV).

Now, it appears Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights are getting a long-term deal done as well.

Eichel is reportedly signing an eight-year extension with Vegas that carries a $13.5M cap hit.

It’s noteworthy that both of those numbers are well below the $17M AAV that Kirill Kaprizov got from the Minnesota Wild on his long-term extension. But that’s two more guys making big money — and two fewer options for teams with a lot of cap space looking to sign an impactful veteran.
