Josh Allen sent Bills Mafia love after winning 2024 NFL MVP (video)

Bills quarterback Josh Allen won the 2024 NFL MVP Award and he thanked many in his acceptance speech.

Allen was motivated by teammates and loved ones, but he thanks the fans too. After the speech, Allen went on to thank Bills Mafia personally in a video the team posted to social media.

National reactions: Bills' 'Slick Rick' goes viral across NFL thanks to Josh Allen

The legend of “Rick Slick” took off in western New York… and now well beyond it.

Ironically enough, his name is not even Rick.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen took home the top individual honor at the NFL Honors ceremony, the 2024 NFL MVP. As is tradition at award shows, Allen gave a speech after winning.

Tossed into it was a mention of “Slick Rick.” The QB was thanking those around him in Buffalo for helping along the way and beyond teammates, the staffer for the Bills was mentioned.

After Allen’s speech, Roderick Morrow–his real name–was interviewed.

Morrow had a really touching conversation, mentioning how he wanted to cry when he heard his nickname.

Allen’s down-to-earth personality shined by mentioning him. The interview Morrow had ended up going viral and the entire NFL world from media to former players loved it.

That was shown by the national reactions to Allen and “Slick Rick,” and a roundup of that can be found below:

Bills player surprisingly earned one vote for 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

The Buffalo Bills defense did not have the best of seasons in 2024.

Even so, one player stood out for many in western New York: Cornerback Christian Benford.

And Benford’s efforts caught the eyes of at least one voter for the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II ended up winning the honor. But as revealed, Benford did earn one fifth-place vote for the honor.

In 15 games played, Benford notched 64 tackles, including three for loss, with one sack, two interceptions, and 10 passes defended. Pro Football Focus graded Benford a 79.3 overall in 2024, good for their sixth-best cornerback mark in the NFL.

The final voting for the DPOTY, Benford included, can be found below:

AP Defensive Player of the Year voting:

PFF: Spencer Brown was Bills' most-improved player in 2024

Pro Football Focus named Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Spencer Brown as the team’s most improved player for the 2024 NFL season.

Brown rebounded to aid the Bills in remaining an offensive juggernaut in the league. In particular, Buffalo improved its running attack to supplement its dynamic passing attack.

Following an inconsistent 2023 season in which Brown battled multiple injuries, the veteran tackle had a healthy and productive 2024. Brown started every game for Buffalo this past season.

Brown continued his upward trajectory last season.

PFF highlights:

Spencer Brown has evolved into one of the better tackles in the NFL over the last two seasons, and Brown’s evolution in 2024 has coincided with the Bills finally fixing, and leaning into, a potent rushing game. The Bills’ 92.7 team rushing grade was third in the regular season, and though a lot of that can be credited to Josh Allen and James Cook, they needed the offensive line to improve, and Brown highlighted that improvement with a career-high 78.5 grade, 14th among tackles.

Brown showed tremendous improvement with his pass blocking in 2024. His metrics in the passing game contributed to Josh Allen being one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the league. PFF adds:

Brown’s pass-blocking improved as a whole, too. In 2023, he allowed 42 pressures and five sacks, but in 2024, those numbers dropped to just 17 pressures and a single sack, earning Brown a 76.2 pass-blocking grade. The only thing holding Brown back was the 16 penalties he was called for, aside from that, he’s one of the best in the NFL now.

Brown signed a four-year, $72 million contract to keep him in Buffalo through the 2028 season. Brown and Dion Dawkins will bookend the Bills offensive line for the foreseeable future.

Personally, Brown was graded a 77.9 overall mark for his efforts last season. That was the best mark handed out to anyone on Buffalo’s offensive line.

In addition, as a group, the Bills offensive line fared well via PFF’s metrics. When it was all said and done, the unit was ranked the fifth-best O-line in the NFL in 2024 via the football analytic outlet’s metrics.

Spencer Brown on Bills re-signing OL Alec Anderson: 'Straight up football player'

The Buffalo Bills announced that the team re-signed offensive lineman Alec Anderson to a one-year contract.

An exclusive rights free agent, Anderson couldn’t negotiate with other teams once offered a contract from Buffalo. He will now be back for 2025 and has a full offseason with the Bills ahead of him:

He’s back!

We’ve re-signed OL Alec Anderson to a one-year contract: https://t.co/RZrz1dAaMB pic.twitter.com/5Lf3slIBPi

— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) February 12, 2025

Anderson served as the team’s sixth offensive lineman, which proved to be an important role, in 2024. The Bills ran the most plays in the NFL with six offensive linemen. And, it was a big reason why the Bills’ rushing game was effective this past year.

Not only does Anderson have a role as the sixth offensive lineman, but he can also back up multiple spots on the offensive line should someone have to miss time.

Anderson was signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL draft and has spent the next couple of seasons on the practice squad. The former UCLA Bruin’s number was finally called upon in 2024, and he was ready to make his mark in the offense.

His teammates have taken notice of his play and the energy he brings to the offense. Fellow offensive lineman Spencer Brown praised Anderson this week in an interview with WKBW-TV.

“Couldn’t be happier to have Alec back,” Brown said. “What he does for us as an offense… able to bring another guy in there to run and pass block… and outside of that he can also back up all the interior spots. He’s definitely a key piece in the Swiss army knife here in Buffalo.

“He’s just a straight-up football player, he learns the technique, but outside of technique, he’s just a true offensive lineman and nasty… but it’s also controlled. He’s an example of the guys we have in the building… we’re not flashy, we don’t expect any shoutouts in the media… we just come and do our job. If you have ten guys that can do that and you have the MVP at quarterback you can be pretty successful.”

In 2024, the Bills averaged the second-most points per game in the NFL (30.9) while ranking in the top ten in both passing yards per game and rushing yards per game. A big reason they were able to be balanced on offense was because of the offensive line. Luckily for the Bills, they will return their entire starting offensive line in 2025 as they try to build on a season that ended with their QB, Josh Allen, receiving the NFL’s MVP award.

Bills Wire will continue to provide all updates on the team throughout the 2025 offseason.

Bills add to defense in Draft Wire post-Super Bowl 2025 mock

USA Today’s Draft Wire sees the Bills adding to their secondary in the organization’s post-Super Bowl mock draft.

The latest mock draft has Buffalo selecting South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori with the 30th overall pick.

Emmanwori has earned a slew of honors in the 2024 season. Emmanwori was named an All-American by several outlets, including the Associated Press and the Sporting News. In addition, the junior was a unanimous All-SEC selection.

Emmanwori was a finalist for the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, an award for the best player from South Carolina. The defensive back earned semifinalist status for the Jim Thorpe Award and a quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Award.

The South Carolina product recorded 88 total tackles and four interceptions in his junior season. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Curt Popejoy of Draft Wire highlights how Emmanwori will fit in with the Bills, writing:

The Bills love active, physical safeties and Emmanwori is a hybrid player who can do a little of everything.

Buffalo may need some reinforcements in the secondary. Demar Hamlin is a free agent this offseason. Currently, the Bills have Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop as the only safeties under contract for next year.

Bills head athletic trainer Denny Kellington leaves for promotion with Panthers

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Buffalo Bills associate athletic trainer Denny Kellington has moved on from the team. He was hired by the Carolina Panthers this week to serve as the team’s vice president of player health and performance.

A promotion was well deserved for Kellington, who was credited with saving the life of safety Damar Hamlin by performing CPR after the Bills safety collapsed on the field in January of 2023.

Kellington was on the Bills’ athletic training staff from 2017, starting as an assistant trainer and moving up to associate head trainer in 2023. Before that, he was on Syracuse University’s athletic training staff for almost 12 years, serving as head athletic trainer of football for the final six years.

Kellington graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2000, where he returned in 2023 to make a commencement speech just four months after saving the life of Hamlin on national TV for the world to see.

“All the attention I’ve received for simply doing my job has been overwhelming,” Kellington said in his speech. “I’ve said repeatedly that I am not a hero, but I will tell you what I was that day, I was ready.”

Because Kellington was ready on that particular night, Hamlin not only survived but he put together the best season of his career in 2024, starting 14 games and recording his first two career interceptions.

The remarkable story of Hamlin doesn’t exist without Kellington. In 2023 Kellington received a vote for NFL MVP from the Associated Press, and he was among a crew of Bills training staff who were presented the Pat Tillman Award at the 2023 ESPYs from an emotional Hamlin.

The Panthers hired not only a well-experienced professional in his field, but also a life-saver who proved his worth on the world’s biggest stage under the most possible pressure.

“When unexpected doors open, or life changes course, trust that your experiences have led you there and you will be ready,” Kellington said in his commencement speech at OSU. “Understand this: small things done with passion and intention have the potential to make a lasting impact with ripple effects that you may never understand.”

Former Bills coach Ken Dorsey lands job with a new NFL team

The Buffalo Bills and Ken Dorsey have been apart since the 2023 NFL season.

In November of that year, Dorsey was fired as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator. Joe Brady took over as the interim and still holds the full-time job today.

Dorsey eventually landed another OC role with the Cleveland Browns… but that only last one season as he was then fired again in January.

It was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that another team was interested in adding Dorsey as offensive coordinator once again, post-Browns.

The Dallas Cowboys looked into Dorsey for that role:

#Cowboys are considering former #Browns OC Ken Dorsey for their offensive coordinator position, per source. Interview to be determined but logistics being discussed.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) January 30, 2025

In the end, that did and did not happen.

Dorsey, 43, was hired in Dallas. However, he is not the offensive coordinator.

Cowboys Wire has revealed the full coaching staff hired by their new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer. Dorsey’s name was on it but he holds the title of passing game specialist.

Instead of Dorsey getting coordinator duties, Klayon Adams did in Dallas.

Regardless, Dorsey is now a member of the Cowboys for those curious.

Where the Bills finished in PFF's final 2024 offensive line rankings

The Buffalo Bills had a historically good offense in 2024, in large part because of the continued evolution of quarterback Josh Allen, but they also fielded the best offensive line Allen has ever played behind.

Pro Football Focus ranked every offensive line in the NFL following the season, and the Bills came in ranked number five.

The offensive line largely overachieved this year. Aside from left tackle Dion Dawkins, the offensive line has seen a lot of change under head coach Sean McDermott. But, O’Cyrus Torrence and Spencer Brown came into their own throughout the 2023 season, solidifying the right side ahead of this season.

The remaining questions heading into the season were how would the departure of starting center and captain Mitch Morse affect the team, and how will the position change of Connor McGovern from guard to center play out.

The offensive line jelled quickly in the season. They led an offense that finished in the top ten in both passing yards per game and rushing yards per game, showing their versatility as a unit. They also allowed the least amount of sacks in the NFL.

Here is how the Bills offensive line was graded by PFF this year:

  • LT Dion Dawkins: 72.4.
  • LG David Edwards: 66.1.
  • C Connor McGovern: 69.5.
  • RG O’Cyrus Torrence: 55.5.
  • RT Spencer Brown: 77.9.
  • Sixth OL Alec Anderson: 70.4.

PFF’s full breakdown of the 2024 Bills offensive line can be found below:

Buffalo’s offensive line continued to have very good injury luck; Bills starting offensive linemen have missed a combined one game due to injury over the past two seasons. That came this season when right tackle Spencer Brown did not play in Week 11 against the Chiefs. The Bills capitalized on that continuity to become one of the best offensive lines in football in 2024.

The unit ranked fourth in the league in PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating (88.1), allowing 134 pressures on 581 pass plays. The Bills‘ line surrendered only four sacks, which was, by far, the fewest in the NFL. No other team allowed fewer than eight.

Bills OL Tommy Doyle forced to medically retire from NFL

Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Tommy Doyle’s career has come to an end.

A fifth-round pick in 2021, Doyle was forced to hang up his cleats and retire well before he had probably imagined.

The retirement comes after Doyle experienced nerve damage in his left leg following a severe injury in the 2023 preseason. Before that, Doyle missed the majority of the 2022 season with an ACL injury to his right knee.

Doyle, once viewed as a promising late-round depth piece on the offensive line, ends his career at 26 years old with just 12 games played, 11 of them in his rookie year.

He can, however, say that he scored an NFL touchdown, which not many offensive linemen can say. He was on the receiving end of a goal line pass from Josh Allen against the New England Patriots in the 47-17 blowout win in the 2021 wildcard round.

Doyle has come to grips with his new reality and says he has learned a lot from the pain he’s endured over the last couple of years.

“I’m just unable to play football at a high level, and it’s time. When you know you know,” Doyle told Bills media. “I was really battling and competing and working to come back from that (ACL) injury, only to be kind of struck with an even more disastrous injury. But at the end of the day, there was a lot of negative emotions and anger. [I’ve done] a lot of reflecting lately and looking back on it, I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons from it.”

As the Bills enter the 2025 season without Doyle on the roster, you may find him outside the stadium tailgating at one of your favorite spots. He said on X last week that he “can’t wait to tailgate with Bills Mafia finally”.

Bills fire interesting training staff member following 2024 NFL season

The Buffalo Bills shook things up on their staff following the 2024 season.

The team fired strength and conditioning coach Eric Ciano, as reported by Ryan O’Halloran of The Buffalo News.

Ciano held the position with the Bills since 2013, well before head coach Sean McDermott (2017) and general manager Brandon Beane (2018) were around.

It was an interesting move, considering the Bills had their healthiest season in recent memory. Down the stretch of the 2024 regular season and into the postseason, the Bills were exactly where they wanted to be in terms of their players being active for gameday.

In the playoffs (three games), only one total game was missed by a Bills starter, and that was safety Taylor Rapp in the AFC championship.

And, for the season as a whole, the Bills were one of the healthiest in the league. According to a study from the Buffalo News, the Bills had the eighth healthiest roster in the NFL this past year (according to the number of games lost by starters to injury).

Although the Bills had good overall health in terms of their gameday injury reports, players were struggling through injuries and struggling to return to a high level of play after injury.

Specifically, the returns from injury by rookie receiver Keon Coleman and second-year tight end Dalton Kincaid were brought up by Beane in his end-of-season press conference.

While it’s not known the specifics of why Ciano was let go by the Bills, it is worth noting that Beane was concerned about the durability of his top draft selections over the last two years.

On Coleman, Beane said, “I was a little disappointed in the return from the injury. I did not see the same player down the stretch.”

And on Kincaid, Beane said, “Dalton didn’t have the year he expected or we expected, not for any particular reason other than some durability things. He got nicked up… he’s going to continue to work on his play strength. He’s not as built and muscular as, let’s just say, Dawson [Knox] is.

“In college you don’t play 17 games plus playoffs, so building your body up to withstand what it takes…,” Beane continued. “Unfortunately, I think it was the Colts game… banged his knee, he had the PCL… I think that set him back.”

It remains to be seen what the Bills’ plan is for replacing Ciano as the head of strength and conditioning.

Colin Cowherd: 'No problem' with Bills' Josh Allen winning MVP Award (video)

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was not universally welcomed but count Colin Cowherd among those who agreed with the decision.

Allen was named one of five finalists but most considered it a two-horse race between him and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

In the end, Allen edged Jackson out 383 to 362 in the final voting.

While some had their questions, the FOX Sports analyst said he had “no problem” with Allen winning it. He went on to compare those around the two QBs as a reason why.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wants to see Bills trade for Myles Garrett

Big names at the defensive end position have been labeled as potential trade candidates this NFL offseason, such as Maxx Crosby, Micah Parsons, Trey Hendrickson, and Myles Garrett.

And, Buffalo Bills fans on social media have been clamoring for a trade for a star edge rusher since the season’s end.

Head coach Sean McDermott agrees with the folks wishing a trade for a star. He hinted at landing a difference-maker this offseason during his end-of-season press conference.

“The AFC is just loaded with really good quarterbacks, really good coaches,” McDermott said. “So the short answer is they are hard to find, like Brandon (Beane) said. You do need difference-makers. Again, in my experience, you need two or three on each side of the ball that are difference makers like that.”

With Garrett’s trade request from the Cleveland Browns following the season, Western New Yorkers began to put two and two together quickly, especially after Garrett mentioned that he wanted to be traded to a Super Bowl contender.

“I have a lot of love for Northeast Ohio and the community that brought me into the league,” Garrett said on NFL Countdown on Super Bowl Sunday. “I wanna get to contending and winning playoff games and having a chance to be in games like today.”

It’s not just Bills fans who are hoping to see the potential match between Buffalo and Garrett. ESPN national NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler claimed it as the one move he wants to see this offseason, saying “Buffalo’s lack of pass-rush prowess showed in key moments of the playoffs, especially against the Chiefs. Time to rectify that in a big way.”

It’s been said a million times that the Bills are close to “getting over the hump”, but Garrett is the type of player who could take them where they are trying to go. The Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the past five years but they haven’t had the star power, especially on the defensive side of the ball, to make impact plays in the playoffs.

Garrett, a 29-year-old veteran with eight seasons under his belt, has most likely entered the back-nine of his playing career. He’s ready to win now, and so are the Bills.

Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins sees the vision, as well. He has been doing his best to recruit the six-time All-Pro this offseason, nationally stating multiple times his desire to land Garrett.

If Garrett is traded, he will come with a hefty price tag, so general manager Brandon Beane will most likely have to perform some cap gymnastics. His current cap hit with Cleveland is just north of $20 million, which is expensive for a non-quarterback, but it’s more than reasonable for a player of his caliber.

As for which team Garrett will be on to start 2025, the Bills (+550) have the fourth-best odds in the NFL, according to DraftKings. They trail the Washington Commanders (+300), Philadelphia Eagles (+450), and Browns (+500).

Bills get 2025 salary cap boost as NFL increases allowance considerably

The Buffalo Bills got some good news in terms of their spending limit allowed by the NFL during the upcoming offseason.

The league has announced on Wednesday that this upcoming season’s salary cap has jumped a pretty considerable margin. The final number is not yet set, but according to reports, the 2025 NFL salary cap will fall somewhere between $277.5 and $281.5 million.

That’s an increase from $255.4M in 2024:

The NFL today informed teams that the 2025 per-team salary cap will fall in the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million, way up from last year’s $255.4 million. Cap will have increased by more than $53 million over the last two years.

— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) February 19, 2025

The memo also states: The large Jump is due to the fact that the 2024 Player Cost and Salary Cap amount was reduced by
$10 million per club, due to a $9 million smoothing adjustment and an incremental
$1 million being added to Performance Based Pay
So last year the cap should’ve… https://t.co/SuJniV705x

— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) February 19, 2025

The cap typically does go up each NFL offseason, but the total is larger than most expected. Over the Cap had projected the salary cap to be $272.5M while Spotrac had it at $275M.

Last week, OTC had the Bills approximately $14.1M over next year’s cap in their projections. With the increased space, it will be easier for Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane to mend that gap and also create extra space for more transactions this spring.

At some point before the start of free agency in March, the NFL will announce the official salary cap total.

Bills Wire will provide updates throughout the 2025 offseason.

Where Bills QB Josh Allen ranks among NFL touchdown scorers over the past five seasons

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a pretty good 2025 NFL season, didn’t he?

Winning the MVP Award shows that.

Those in Buffalo know that was nothing new and not a flash in the pan. Since bursting onto the NFL scene as a top-tier quarterback, Allen has produced some of the best stats among all QBs.

Allen’s duel-threat nature makes him a headache for opposing defenses. What stat might show that the most is his total touchdowns scored.

Over the past fives seasons, Allen far-and-away leads that category in the NFL.

— Jonathan Feliciano (@MongoFeliciano) February 20, 2025

Feliciano was most recently with the San Francisco 49ers.

In 2024, Feliciano did not suit up for the Niners as he missed the season with a knee injury. The year prior, Feliciano appeared in 16 games for San Francisco and made seven starts. He was in contention for playing time again in 2025 but has decided to hang ’em up.

But Feliciano did keep the door open for himself, saying he will “ready for a playoff run” next season. Feliciano added he just didn’t think he has a full season in him at the current time but did name the Bills and Niners as teams he would join late in the year.

Post Buffalo, Feliciano appeared to have mixed feelings toward the team. He had positives to say about the area, but did think he deserved more playing time and said the Bills coaching staff treated the offensive line like a “thorn in the heel.”

That feeling for a competitor and athlete are completely understandable, though.

Feliciano was in Buffalo from 2019 to 2021. He was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2015 draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Feliciano has appeared in 113 games with 61 starts in his career.

ESPN: Bills happy with Amari Cooper as 2025 NFL free agency approaches

Amari Cooper was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills at the 2024 NFL trade deadline and it remains to be seen what his future holds.

Cooper, 31 next season, is a pending free agent. Could he be one-and-done in Buffalo?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Bills would not mind Cooper sticking around despite some low production in 2024.

ESPN ranked the top-50 pending free agents this offseason and Cooper landed at No. 18 overall.

In the breakdown on the receiver, Fowler notes that the Bills are happy with Cooper making it sound like there is interest from the team.

While Cooper’s numbers weren’t great in Buffalo, he did play through injury which required surgery. He opted to tough it out which was likely appreciated in the locker room.

Fowler’s full free agency profile on Cooper can be found below:

Cooper’s tape is beginning to show signs of decline, but he is still a detailed route runner who can uncover at multiple levels of the field. In 14 games with both the Browns and Bills this season, Cooper caught 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns. In nine full seasons, Cooper has topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark seven times and has 64 career touchdown catches.

Fowler’s latest: The Bills have been happy with Cooper, despite low production compared with past seasons. He has been a good team player in Buffalo, and the Bills are intrigued by getting him into a full offseason program with quarterback Josh Allen. Though his free agency future is uncertain, a return to Buffalo does not appear off the table.

PFF: Bills' Spencer Brown named among top-101 NFL players in 2024

Spencer Brown’s breakout season with the Buffalo Bills has gained him national attention.

The Bills showed their faith in Brown even before the start of the year by handing him a four-year extension.

Pro Football Focus thinks he repaid that trust.

The football analytics outlet named the top-101 players from the 2024 NFL season. Brown made his first appearance on the rankings, clocking in at No. 97 overall.

After injuries held him back in prior seasons, Brown made 15 starts last season.

Not only did PFF give him this recognition, he was named Buffalo’s breakout player of the year and his 77.9 overall grade in their metrics was the best of anyone on the Bills offensive line. In terms of league-wide, his final grade was good for the 20th best offensive tackle grade in the NFL out of 81 qualifying players.

PFF’s full breakdown on Brown can be found below:

Just prior to the Bills kicking off their 2024 season, Buffalo locked up Brown to a four-year, $72 million extension, and the Bills were certainly glad they did. While Brown had shown promise across his first three seasons, 2024 put him on the map. In the playoffs, the Bills tackle emerged as a true impact blocker, as he earned an 83.5 PFF overall grade — fourth highest among all offensive linemen this postseason.

Josh Allen's fiancé, Hailee Steinfeld, roasts the AFC East (video)

Hailee Steinfeld is fully on board with Bills Mafia.

During an interview for the February cover of “WhoWhatWear,” the Hollywood star was asked a series of questions which involved some football ones.

She knows her stuff… and knows how to burn the Bills’ rivals.

Asked to name the four teams in the AFC East, Steinfeld got all of them right… at least Bills Mafia will think so.

The actress named the Bills and then referred to the Dolphins, Jets and Patriots as “the Bills’ three sons.”

Shots fired.
