Trey McBride breaks NFL record vs. Bengals; Myles Garrett could do so next

gettyimages-2253838464.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals have been one of the worst teams ever in covering the tight end in 2025, so it is only fitting that a tight end would break the single-season receptions record against the Bengals.

Trey McBride came into the game with 109 catches, seven shy of the record, far from an easy amount to get in one game for a tight end. However, against the Bengals, the record is not surprising, and he actually finished with 10 catches, including a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

Now with another game and already a three-reception lead over the record, McBride has a chance to set a dominant record at the position.

That may not be the only record the Bengals have broken against them this season, though, and the other one has been running even longer. Myles Garrett is a half sack short of tying the single-season record and has one game left to try to get it in a lost season for the Browns and Bengals.

Unlike the tight end receptions record, it remains to be seen whether Garrett will be able to set the sack record against the Bengals, a mark that has stood for almost 25 years. The Bengals offensive line has really stepped up this season. Based on how well they’ve played, it’s not impossible to see them keeping Garrett from breaking the NFL sacks record.

Congrats to McBride on a great season, and here’s to hoping Garrett doesn’t get his record at the expense of the Bengals.

Browns at Bengals TV Channel, Odds and Predictions

Even though the Bengals have been officially eliminated from 2025 playoff contention, they’ve been putting up quite the performances the past couple of weeks. In Cincinnati’s dominating wins over the the Dolphins and Cardinals the past two weeks, Joe Burrow and the offense has put up a combined 82 points, while allowing only 35.

The last game of the 2025 season pits the Bengals against the Browns at Paycor Stadium. Cleveland has seen a little bit of life with Shedeur Sanders placed into the lineup at quarterback, taking the Bills to the wire a 23-20 loss in Week 16, and then grabbing an ugly, but impressive win against the Steelers on Sunday.

Cincinnati has historically had some issues with unfamiliar and/or their first time seeing a rookie quarterback (as well as with Myles Garrett), but Burrow and the offense has been a buzzsaw of late. Which team will end the season on a high note?

Predictions

Arizona Central: Bengals 24, Browns 16

Sportsnaut: Browns 14, Bengals 21

Cincy Jungle:

On paper and based on their past couple of performances against other struggling teams, Cincinnati should have a realtively-comfortable win on Sunday. Burrow and the offense, with its full complement of stars available, have provided problems for Miami and Arizona, respectively. Burrow used nine receivers against the Cardinals Sunday, so he’s seeing the field and utilizing his trademark ad-lib ability well.

However, the Browns have been a headache for Cincinnati in the Burrow era. Garrett has been basically unstoppable and any semblance of competent quarterback play by Cleveland has made some of these games tenuous. The Bengals have won the last four against the Browns, but Cleveland was 6-1 in the “Battle of Ohio” from 2020-2023.

Sanders’ spark to Cleveland should make this one more interesting than the last few matchups, as both teams are “playing for pride” in the final game of the season. Even so, Burrow and Co. appear to be having fun again, even if Garrett pours the occasional bucket of cold water on the party.

Cody Ford and Joe Burrow react to NFL history-making catch vs. Cardinals

imagn-27895076.jpg

There is something about playing the Arizona Cardinals in Cincinnati in December that brings out highlight-reel plays from the Bengals.

First, we had Jerome Simpson’s front flip for a touchdown 14 years ago.

Sunday, we had the greatest big man catch and run in the history of the NFL.

Cody Ford’s 21-yard reception was a thing of beauty. He also made some history in the process. Ford is the heaviest player in NFL history to record a reception of over 20 yards from scrimmage in a game, according to researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming.

Ford is listed at 345 pounds. The majestic catch will go down in Bengals history as an all-timer.

The fans were hoping Ford would get a handoff at the 1-yard line to try and get the touchdown, but Coach Taylor opted to give the ball to Chase Brown instead.

Cody Ford wanted to make it clear that he is an athlete in the locker room after the game. The big man’s rumble on his birthday brought enjoyment to his teammates, as well. Joe Burrow was in pure amazement at what he was seeing as Ford scampered down the sideline.

Check out their reactions below.

Cincinnati Bengals 2026 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Oregon vs. Texas Tech playoff game

gettyimages-2250363277.jpg

The second game of the college football quarterfinal round will kick off at Noon on New Year’s Day. Let’s take a look at some of the best prospects that the Bengals should be checking out during the game.

The Bengals signed TJ Slaton to a two-year contract last offseason. He hasn’t been overly impactful, but also not a liability by any means as a run defender. Could the Bengals look to upgrade the position via the draft? If so, they might be interested in A’Mauri Washington from Oregon.

Washington was a member of the Feldman Freak List. The 6’3”, 338-pound defensive tackle has been clocked at 20.89 miles per hour on the GPS, has a 36” vertical, and bench pressed 475 pounds. He is a high-upside prospect who is just scratching the surface of his potential.

— Bengals & Brews (@BengalsBrews) October 2, 2025

Texas Tech has a talented defensive tackle prospect of their own. Lee Hunter is 6’4” and 320 pounds. He has a highly impressive 19.8% win rate on true pass sets this year. His 10.1% stop rate as a run defender is among the highest in college football. The UCF transfer has been an integral part of a loaded Red Raiders defensive line.

Lee Hunter is a top 50 player for me. 330-lb NT with heavy hands and a very quick first step for his size. Comfortably the most detailed and instinctive pass rusher in the '26 NT class pic.twitter.com/NC3o1WNdu9

— James Foster (@NoFlagsFilm) December 10, 2025

Sticking with the Red Raiders defensive line, they have two of the best pass rushers in the country at edge. David Bailey is the more highly regarded prospect, with an insane 41.8% win rate on true pass sets. The explosive pass rusher has 12.5 sacks on the season.

#TexasTech EDGE David Bailey has a lot of quick wins with the ability to blow up a play in an instant.

Leads the Power 4 in Sacks currently with 13.5, super intriguing prospect for the 2026 draft. pic.twitter.com/rBS3YqNstL

— Andy (@AndyyNFL) December 26, 2025

Playing opposite of Bailey, is edge Romello Height. An undersized player, he has elite quickness off the snap. He has 49 pressures on the season, with 9 sacks of his own. Height’s measurables will be a big part of how highly he ends up getting drafted.

David Bailey gets most of the attention on Texas Tech’s defense, but Romello Height isn’t far behind him imo.

— James Foster (@NoFlagsFilm) October 13, 2025

Oregon edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei fits the typical size profile Cincinnati has drafted. He is listed at 6’5” and 270 pounds. Originally a tight end recruit, Uiagalelei has 5 sacks on the year. Last year, he recorded 10.5 sacks, but that was on just 31 total pressures. He needs to be more consistent against the run. He might end up going on day two, due to inconsistency setting the edge, and the need for further development as a pass rusher.

I’m tweeting about one prospect every day before the 2026 NFL Draft. If I miss a day, I shake ass for the TL

Jacob Rodriguez is a Butkus Award-winning linebacker for Texas Tech. Rodriguez put over 100 tackles, 4 interceptions, and an NCAA-leading 7 forced fumbles during the 2025 season. He is a leader and downhill thumper, and he had a 95.3 run-defense grade.

With the return of Erick All from injury, Mike Gesicki returning, and blocking tight end Drew Sample back, it is unlikely the Bengals will want to draft a tight end. I will mention Kenyon Sadiq. The clear-cut tight end one in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Sadiq is a rugged blocker, an athletic playmaker, and is still just 20 years old

The last prospect for this game I will highlight is Dillon Thieneman. Thieneman is a talented safety prospect who could be the successor to Geno Stone. He has an excellent range, reported 4.3 40-yard dash speed, and is a physical finisher against the run.

Bengals Rookie Report vs. Cardinals

gettyimages-2253082844.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals have finally found life, too late in the season, and so has first-round pick Shemar Stewart.

Stewart, who recently returned from injured reserve, recorded his first career sack this weekend. It was a good play, where Stewart made an inside move that left the offensive tackle looking foolish. Defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery has done a great job of developing Myles Murphy and Kris Jenkins as the season goes on. Now, he and defensive coordinator Al Golden are making sure that Stewart gets a high volume of reps week in and week out, giving him a chance to develop his skills despite missing substantial time to injury this season.

Don’t be too quick to label Stewart as a bust. This staff has a plan for him.

Rookie linebackers Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter were really thrown into the fire this season. Linebacker is arguably the hardest position on the defense to adjust from the college to the pro game. Most of the time, a rookie linebacker would have another linebacker on the field with some experience to take the heat off of them, but the Bengals went all in on developing this duo.

Though not linear, make no mistake, their week-in, week-out improvement is much more substantial than what PFF would have you think. This pair stepped up in recent weeks and has been a big part of why this team can suddenly stop the run. Knight had one tackle and four assists this week. Carter had one tackle and two assists while also getting his hand on a pass and getting a shot in on Jacoby Brissett.

Dylan Fairchild’s development is unquestionable. The rookie guard has been phenomenal as a pass protector and made some nice run blocks this week as the team continues to win between the tackles. Jalen Rivers came in late and did an admirable job blocking for Joe Flacco and Tahj Brooks.

Brooks had a couple more runs, but what stood out to me was the check-down that nearly turned into a first down, as he picked up nine yards. We haven’t seen enough of Brooks to make any real judgment on his abilities, but we didn’t get much out of Chase Brown as a rookie either, so be patient.

Of course, I would be remiss not to mention long snapper William Wagner, who continues to make the kick game function.

UDFA Bralyn Lux finally saw some action this week. He has one rough blocking rep on the punt return team, but looked good when he got in on defense at the end of the game. They put him in the slot, where he did not allow a catch and made a tackle on the only run that came his way.

Howard Cross also saw most of his action on the last defensive drive. For the most part, he did his job. He is pretty quick, but needs to put together better pass protection progression in order to become a serious contributor to this defense.

Cincinnati Bengals 2026 NFL Draft prospects to watch in the Alabama vs. Indiana playoff game

gettyimages-2247150800.jpg

The third of the four quarterfinal playoff games will feature Alabama taking on top-ranked Indiana in the Rose Bowl at 4:00 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day.

The Cincinnati Bengals have worked hard to field a competent offensive line for Joe Burrow. Not that the bar was high, but this has felt like the best offensive line of his career. However, Orlando Brown Jr. will be entering the final season of his contract.

One player that could fit the mold of the size the Bengals like is Kadyn Proctor of the Crimson Tide. Proctor is listed at 6’7” and 360 pounds. I have some concerns about his foot speed if it sticks at offensive tackle. With that said, he is a three-year starter, a mauler in the run game, and has a 79.8 pass blocking grade in 2025.

Kadyn Proctor (#74) Alabama

Absolutely monstrous Offensive Tackle at 6’7 360 with great length, mauling mentality as a run blocker, and plus athleticism overall that can get out and block in space. However, I do have concerns about his durability and conditioning at his size and… pic.twitter.com/RMBh067iGq

— Bengals & Brews (@BengalsBrews) July 25, 2025

Indiana also features a talented player at left tackle, in Carter Smith. Smith doesn’t have anywhere close to the size of Proctor, with many projecting him to kick inside to guard at the next level. Regardless of which spot he ends up at, Smith gave up just five pressures during the regular season, has impressive grip strength, and is a good blocker getting up at the second level of the defense.

#Indiana LT Carter Smith has excellent grip strength and does a nice job with his initial strike in stopping defenders in their tracks. Consistently works to replace his hands and has shown the ability to anchor against power.

— Devin Jackson (@RealD_Jackson) December 4, 2025

The Bengals will be looking to find a replacement at safety for Geno Stone. Both teams have starters at safety who should be playing in the NFL within the next two seasons. For Alabama, they have Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb. Sabb is the more likely of the two to be in this draft class. Sabb is a really good cover corner with range.

Keon Sabb is a versatile athlete, reliable tackler in the open field, and posted an 83.1 coverage grade for Alabama in 2025. pic.twitter.com/zN0iMo0KbV

— Bengals & Brews (@BengalsBrews) December 24, 2025

Louis Moore and Amare Ferrell are talented safety prospects for the Hoosiers. Moore is turning 25 years old in January, so he will definitely be in this draft class. He has some of the best ball production for any defensive back in the country, with six interceptions on the year.

louis moore is one of the best safeties in college football.

— jamie (@JordanJamie) December 19, 2025

Amare Ferrell is probably the better draft prospect of the two, but he does have another year of eligibility if he chooses to use it. If he does declare, his well-rounded skillset should see him drafted on day two this year.

Amare Ferrell is a safety prospect from Indiana. He has an 84.6 coverage grade and a 77.3 run defense grade on the season. Ferrell is instinctive, quick to diagnose and react, and possesses great ball skills. He has recorded four interceptions in each of the last two seasons. pic.twitter.com/bFBV3gcXQf

— Bengals & Brews (@BengalsBrews) December 21, 2025

Sticking with the Indiana defensive backfield, D’Angelo Ponds is an undersized cornerback who plays much bigger than his listed size. He is a competitive player, which was evident in how many times he was one-on-one with Jeremiah Smith in the Big 10 Championship game.

D'Angelo Ponds is one of the most technically sound CBs in this class.
– Excellent mirror skills & route ID in man coverage
– 0 penalties & 3.8% missed tackle rate in 2025
– Hasn't allowed a 20+ yard completion to anyone besides Jeremiah Smith this year pic.twitter.com/7wJ6CL4TDR

— James Foster (@NoFlagsFilm) December 27, 2025

At corner for Alabama, they will need a big game from Domani Jackson. Jackson is a speedy outside cornerback with good length who adds extra value on special teams. He could be an intriguing option for Cincinnati on day three.

-Shows scheme flexibility and is capable in both man and zone coverage

— Owen Denny (@OwenDennyNFL) December 4, 2025

On the defensive line, Alabama’s LT Overton is a versatile player with good bull-rush power, relentless pursuit, and a 22.7% win rate on true pass sets in 2025.

LT Overton (6’5 285) EDGE/DL

There is a similarly built player on the defensive line for Indiana, in Mikail Kamara. Kamara has only one sack this year, after recording 10 of them in 2024. However, he is still generating pressure at an elite rate for the Hoosiers. He has 46 pressures on the season.

The last player that I will feature that might interest the Cincinnati Bengals is Deontae Lawson. Lawson is an experienced linebacker and team leader with sideline-to-sideline range as a run defender.

Joe Burrow continues his plea for changes from the Cincinnati Bengals

imagn-27895053.jpg

Joe Burrow is one of the most calculated people when he speaks. Everything he says carries weight.

So, when he says something needs to change following a third straight season where the Bengals aren’t in the NFL Playoffs, it’s significant.

“We want to be competing for championships every year,” Burrow told reporters on Wednesday. “We don’t want to be in the spot that we’re in now, so something’s got to change, whether it’s players that we have continuing to improve and get better at playing championship caliber football, or bringing guys in that will, or whatever it may be.

“Obviously, something has to (change).”

Remember, this is a guy who said three years ago that the window to win a Super Bowl “is my whole career.” Burrow believes he’s good enough to lead the Bengals to a Super Bowl title. But he also knows he can’t do it alone.

The Bengals’ defense has been a significant hindrance for a second straight year, but Burrow isn’t singling them out.

“I want to be a quarterback. I don’t want to work in the front office. I don’t want any scouting guys in the offseason. I want to do what I do, and I want to do it at a high level,” he said. “And I have, and I’m going to continue to find more and more ways that I can help myself get better, help the team get better, and put ourselves in good positions.”

Fair views from a player who continues to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Burrow has been having fun during the Bengals’ two-game winning streak. But he knows the standard is higher. The Bengals’ front office has given the impression over the last two offseasons that they are closer to winning a Super Bowl than maybe they really were.

After this season, though, it’s clear the Bengals need a revamping, especially considering Burrow missed nine games with a toe injury.

“I think my job is, number one, to play as well as I can. Number two, continue to improve, and number three, be the conduit between the coaching staff, front office, and the locker room, relay feelings that players have, relay sentiments in the locker room, because coaches in front office are not down there every day, and they don’t understand a lot of the things that go on in the locker room.

“And so I think as a quarterback, your job is to relay some of those things.”

The Franchise has spoken. Mike Brown, Zac Taylor, and Duke Tobin, you are now on the clock.
