The New York Yankees lived up to their history of winning in 2024 as they made their first World Series appearance since 2009 after finishing with a record of 94-68 and capturing the American League East.
Although the Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, it was a good sight for fans to see their team back in the Fall Classic.
This offseason, the Yankees lost superstar outfielder Juan Soto as a free agent, but they were able to make a few notable acquisitions.
Some players added to the roster include starting pitcher Max Fried, relief pitcher Devin Williams and outfielder Cody Bellinger.
Their latest deal brings back relief pitcher Tim Hill, and MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed the details of the contract.
“Hill Yanks deal: $2.85M. $2.5M salary, 350K buyout on 2026 club option,” Heyman wrote on X.Hill Yanks deal: $2.85M. $2.5M salary, 350K buyout on 2026 club option https://t.co/Kap4Ic3UZ4
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) February 4, 2025
Hill is a 34-year-old relief pitcher who debuted in 2018 with the Kansas City Royals and has played for four teams in his MLB career.
In 2024 with the Chicago White Sox and the Yankees, Hill appeared in 62 games and was 4-0 with a 3.36 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 67.0 innings pitched.
The Yankees hope they can get the same production from Hill in 2025 as he gave them in 2024.
After joining the Yankees, Hill appeared in 35 games and held a 2.05 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 44.0 innings pitched.

The New York Yankees got back into the postseason in 2024 after finishing with a record of 94-68 and winning the American League East.
Not only did the Yankees return after missing the playoffs in 2023, they appeared in their first World Series since 2009, although they ended up losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This offseason, the Yankees lost star outfielder Juan Soto as a free agent, but the team has made some notable acquisitions to make up for that.
Some of those include starting pitcher Max Fried, relief pitcher Devin Williams and outfielder Cody Bellinger.
The Yankees reportedly also have re-signed a veteran reliever.

Hill debuted in 2018 with the Kansas City Royals and has played for four teams in his seven-year MLB career.
In 2024 with the Chicago White Sox and the Yankees, Hill appeared in 62 games and was 4-0 with a 3.36 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 67.0 innings pitched.
The Yankees roster will look a lot different than it did in 2024 as Soto moved on to play for the New York Mets, but they hope their new players can make up for his production.
Hill was solid with the Yankees in 2024 as he had a 2.05 ERA in 35 games after joining the team.
The Yankees will look for Hill to continue his solid production as they try to win back-to-back AL East titles.

The New York Yankees made a postseason run to appear in their first World Series since winning the title in 2009.
After finishing the regular season with a record of 94-68 and winning the American League East, the Yankees made a postseason run before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The offseason saw the Yankees lose outfielder Juan Soto, who signed a 15-year deal with the New York Mets worth $765 million.
Although the Yankees could not re-sign Soto, they made some notable acquisitions, including starting pitcher Max Fried, relief pitcher Devin Williams and outfielder Cody Bellinger.
The Yankees made another recent acquisition as it was reported they signed a starting pitcher.
“Yankees, RHP Carlos Carrasco are reportedly in agreement on a minor league deal,” MLB Network wrote on X.Yankees, RHP Carlos Carrasco are reportedly in agreement on a Minor League deal. pic.twitter.com/yBfcA4x5di
— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) February 3, 2025
After playing 12 seasons with Cleveland, Carrasco went to the Mets for three seasons before going back to the Guardians in 2024.
He started 21 games and was 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 103.2 innings pitched.
The Yankees get a veteran to join their organization, which could benefit the clubhouse culture if he makes it to the big leagues in 2025.
Carrasco’s best season came in 2017 when he recorded 18 wins and a 3.29 ERA in 32 starts.
The Yankees will try to win back-to-back AL East titles in 2025 and now have Carrasco to help that cause.

The New York Yankees got back into the postseason in 2024 after finishing with a record of 94-68 and winning the American League East.
After a postseason run to their first World Series appearance since winning the title in 2009, the Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Although the Yankees could not finish the job, they have added some key pieces this offseason to try and make another run at a title in 2025.
Along with their acquisitions this offseason, the Yankees will have the reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge to lead the way next season.
Judge had a message for Yankees fans after winning the AL MVP award.
“To the fans, your energy and passion fuel me every day. Your support drives me to be the best version of myself, and it’s a privilege to be representing the greatest city in the world,” Judge said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’“I’m truly grateful and will cherish this moment forever.”

Judge won his second AL MVP award in the last three seasons in 2024 including career highs in RBIs, walks, and OPS.
In 2024, Judge played in 158 games where he held a .322 batting average, 10.8 WAR, 58 home runs, 144 RBIs, and a 1.159 OPS.
Judge continued to dominate the regular season, but again he appeared to fall apart in the postseason.
In 14 games played in the playoffs, Judge batted .184 with three home runs, nine RBIs, and a .752 OPS.
With star outfielder Juan Soto leaving to join the New York Mets, Judge will have to perform in the postseason if the Yankees want to win a World Series title in 2025.

The New York Yankees are the winningest team in Major League Baseball history, and they have had countless household names play for them over the years.
From Hall of Famers to current superstars, the Yankees have it all when it comes to talented players over the years.
Some iconic Yankees players include Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Mariano Rivera.
One well-known Yankees starting pitcher has the opportunity to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
CC Sabathia is on this year’s Hall of Fame ballot, and he had an honest admission about his career.
“I threw until I couldn’t anymore,” Sabathia said via MLB on ‘X.’CC Sabathia gave it his all![]()

Sabathia came into the league in 2001 with the Cleveland Guardians where he played until briefly going to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008 and then going to the Yankees from 2009-2019.
The 19-season career for Sabathia was remarkable, and his numbers will back up that statement.
His career numbers include a record of 251-161 with a 3.74 ERA, 12 shutouts, and 3,093 strikeouts in 3,577.1 innings pitched.
Sabathia was a six-time all-star selection and he won the Cy-Young Award in 2007.
His 2007 Cy Young year included starting 34 games where he held a record of 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA and 209 strikeouts in 241.0 innings pitched.
Sabathia stated that he pitched until he physically couldn’t pitch anymore, which shows how much he loved the game of baseball.
While his time with the Yankees is the most well-known, Sabathia won his Cy Young Award with the then-Cleveland Indians.
It will be interesting to see if Sabathia gets into the Hall of Fame this year.

The New York Yankees had a rough couple of months to end 2024 as they lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, then lost superstar outfielder to the New York Mets.
Soto signed a contract with the Mets for 15 years worth $765 million, even after the Yankees offered him a similar deal to stay with the team.
Although the Yankees later made some key acquisitions this offseason, there is likely a sour taste in their mouths with Soto joining the rival New York team.
Former Yankees and Mets pitcher Dellin Betances recently revealed his thoughts on the Soto situation and which team owns New York.
“It’s always gonna be a Yankees town,” Betances said, via Foul Territory."It's always gonna be a Yankees town"@DBetances68 has some words for Juan Soto
pic.twitter.com/qGADyzZ8KP![]()
— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) January 10, 2025
Betances is referring to the comments by Soto that New York is now a Mets town.
While Betances stated that New York will always be a Yankees town, he is one of the few players who has played for both the Mets and the Yankees.
Betances debuted in 2011 with the Yankees and played eight seasons before going to the Mets in 2020 for the final two seasons of his career.
One of the reasons Betances believes Soto went to the Mets is because there, Soto is “the guy,” and on the Yankees, Aaron Judge is “the guy.”
While the Yankees own the World Series competition between these two teams, the Mets could make a run at the title in 2025.
The Subway Series will be even more interesting than usual as Soto will face his former team with some likely sour feelings on the other side.

The New York Yankees got back to the postseason in 2024 after missing the playoffs in 2023.
After winning the American League East with a record of 94-68, the Yankees made a run to the World Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While that loss was tough, the offseason didn’t get any easier for the Yankees as they lost superstar outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Mets as a free agent.
The Yankees did make some key acquisitions after losing out on Soto, and one of those was a trade for Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently revealed his plans for Bellinger in 2025.
“Kind of sorting out do I want to keep him in left full time, do I want to keep him in center?” Boone said, via MLB Network. The @Yankees have had a busy winter!

Bellinger is an outfielder and a first baseman, but Boone said after the Yankees signed Paul Goldschmidt from the St. Louis Cardinals, the plan for Bellinger shifted to left field or center field.
The former Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player had another productive season in 2024 with the Cubs.
He played in 130 games and batted .266 with 18 home runs, 78 RBIs and a .751 OPS.
Boone also mentioned that Bellinger reached out to him after the trade and said he is willing to play anywhere the team needs him to.
The versatility of Bellinger will be an asset for the Yankees as they try to repeat as AL East champions and make another run to the World Series.

The New York Yankees have had a busy offseason thus far after losing the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After watching outfielder Juan Soto leave to sign with the New York Mets, the Yankees have acquired several other key players to improve their roster for the 2025 season.
These players include starting pitcher Max Fried, outfielder Cody Bellinger and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
Along with these players, the Yankees also acquired their likely closer for the upcoming season, Devin Williams, and manager Aaron Boone recently revealed how long he’s wanted Williams on his team.
“I’ve been beatin’ that drum for a couple years tryin’ to get him over here to help us close out games,” Boone said, via MLB Network. The @Yankees have had a busy winter!

The Yankees acquired Williams in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he played all six seasons of his MLB career.
The shutdown relief pitcher has had a sub-2.00 ERA four times, including last season.
In 2024, Williams appeared in 22 games and was 1-0 with 14 saves, a 1.25 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched.
Boone hopes that Williams will come in and have similar success for the Yankees.
Although Williams has been dominant in the regular season, he did struggle in the postseason for the Brewers.
Williams threw 1.2 innings in the 2024 playoffs and allowed three hits, four earned runs, one home run and one walk, which gave him an ERA of 21.60.

The New York Yankees made their first World Series appearance since 2009 after finishing with a record of 94-68 and winning the American League East.
After the heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees experienced another heartbreak as superstar outfielder Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets via free agency.
Although the Yankees lost Soto, they made some key additions including trading for outfielder Cody Bellinger and signing first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to join superstar Aaron Judge next season.
Judge had another great season in 2024 and was recognized for a historic offensive achievement.
According to MLB Network on ‘X,’ Judge was the first qualified player in 20 years to slug over .700 on the season.

Judge has been a monster for the Yankees during the regular season in recent years, but his performance has fallen off once the postseason comes around.
In 2024, Judge played 158 games where he batted .322 with 58 home runs, 144 RBIs, a 10.8 WAR, 1.159 OPS, and a .701 slugging percentage.
The numbers were off the charts for Judge again in 2024 as he had a career-high in RBIs, OPS, walks, WAR, and slugging percentage.
With the addition of veteran sluggers Bellinger and Goldschmidt, the Yankees could be a favorite to win the American League again next season.
The loss of Soto was a big one, but the Yankees seem to have made up for it with their other acquisitions this offseason.
With 27 World Series championships in franchise history, the Yankees are the winningest team in MLB history, and they will seek their 28th title in 2025.

The New York Yankees made their first World Series appearance since 2009 after winning the American League East.
Although the Yankees lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and then ended up losing superstar outfielder Juan Soto as a free agent, they appear to be doing just fine heading into the 2025 season.
The Yankees have added other key players such as starting pitcher Max Fried, relief pitcher Devin Williams, outfielder Cody Bellinger, and, most recently, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
“To me, this is the right move at the right time for not only the Yankees, but ‘Goldy,'” analyst Chris Gimenez said, via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.Will it be a bounce back season for Paul Goldschmidt in the Bronx?#Yankees | @Yankees

— MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (@MLBNetworkRadio) January 3, 2025
Gimenez talks about the Yankees’ failure to keep Soto being a blessing that gave them the ability to bring in other key veterans.
Goldschmidt is a 14-year veteran who played eight seasons for the Arizona Diamondbacks before going to the St. Louis Cardinals.
He struggled a bit in 2024, batting .245 with 22 home runs, 65 RBIs and a .716 OPS in 154 games.
Gimenez said he believes that joining the Yankees gives Goldschmidt time to figure things out without the offense relying on only him to produce.
The Yankees appear to have somewhat made up for the loss of Soto and will likely be a World Series contender again in 2025.

The New York Yankees moved swiftly this offseason to retool their roster and compensate for the loss of Juan Soto in free agency.
They hope to make another run to the World Series in 2025, but this time, they will hope to come out on top.
Despite all the wheeling and dealing the front office has done this winter, Giancarlo Stanton is still slated to be a major part of this lineup, though injury concerns are already popping up and making fans worried about his ability to be the same guy who dominated throughout last October.
MLB’s Bryan Hoch shared on X that Stanton said he is dealing with a “very high” level of pain in both of his elbows and has not swung a bat for 3-4 weeks while also stating that he is unsure if he’ll be ready for Opening Day.

The Yankees need Stanton to be ready for the playoffs more than they need him for Opening Day, but Stanton is now 35 years old with a long injury history on his resume, which makes a situation like this even more concerning.
There hasn’t been any follow-up about what specifically is wrong with Stanton’s elbows or any potential timeline for when he might be ready to play, but Yankees fans are sure to find out more about this in the coming days and weeks.
It’s an alarming report to read just days into Spring Training, as one can only wonder what even caused this type of pain in both elbows.
Hopefully, Stanton gets some answers and can get back to swinging a bat as soon as possible ahead of a long, healthy, productive season.
