It started moving into the Spring Training thread, so I made an entirely new thread. So, what are everybody's opinions on the WBC?

I don't really pay attention to the WBC. Joey Votto is on team Canada so I'll be rooting for them if anyone asks. :P

Yeah, Justin Morneau is on team Canada again this year, so I wouldn't mind seeing them win. I don't really pay much attention to the WBC though...

I guess I am cheering for Team USA, but the World Baseball Classic doesn't really interest me. :P

Woo Team Canada! I don't watch the WBC, but then again, I don't watch baseball at all. :P Would be nice if Canada did well.

WBC news. Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer is going to be the replacement for Mark Teixeira, who was injured on Tuesday.

I'm going for Team U.S.A. kind of by default. I don't think their pitching's good enough to have a shot at winning it though. Gio and Dickey (ehh, I wish I was more sold on him after that year, but it was just one year) are solid, but I'm not sure Vogelsong can give us what we need at the 3rd spot.

As long as Japan doesn't win again, I'll be good :)

The Reds beat Team Canada (Joey Votto playing on Team Canada) in an exhibition game yesterday. I know that probably doesn't mean much, but that's just a little bit surprising.

They took our best player and we still won. :P

I support both Team USA and Team Canada.

I think it's pitiful that American and Canadian players mostly shun the WBC though. I hope they remember that the next time someone wants to complain about MLB teams drafting outside North America. The WBC provides a theatre for North American born players to go out and beat the rest of the world- the player should take that opportunity. How do they think Canadian-born players still flesh out the NHL?

I can MAYBE understand if the player is struggling and wants to work on something specific during ST, but otherwise why not?

Did anyone else see the brawl between Team Canada and Team Mexico? Supposedly, the third baseman for Team Mexico told the pitcher to bean the Team Canada batter.

I was just about to post that... I'm really shocked, since I didn't think Canadians were able to be hostile towards other human beings. :o

So you've never met Apeman? Just Kidding :P

Dominican Republic and USA face each other for the first time in WBC history tonight. RA Dickey gets the start for the Americans and Samuel Deduno (starting pitcher for the Twins) will start for Dominican Republic.

Should be a pretty good game.

We have an All-Star and the Dominican has some no-name pitcher.

Somehow the Dominican will find a way to win.

I've been really surprised at how many great, young players have come out of the Dominican Republic. Johnny Cueto is one of them, and would surely be playing on their team for the WBC if the Reds had allowed him.

So I wouldn't exactly be shocked if the Dominican Republic beat us. I'm definitely not gonna count them out.
