Insider Reveals ‘Several Obstacles’ For Potential Warriors, Kings Trade

The clock is ticking louder than ever for the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.

If they are going to create a sign-and-trade deal that sends Jonathan Kuminga to Sacramento, they will have to do it quickly.

However, Sam Amick is reporting that several “obstacles” remain in the way of any potential trade.

“Several obstacles to a deal remain, most notably the fact that the Warriors’ interest in Monk appears to be quite muted. His contract is the primary issue, as he has a player option for the 2027-28 season worth $21.5 million that does not fit with the Warriors’ future flexibility plans. There are concerns about his fit on the team as well. If they did take him on, team sources said it’s likely Golden State would look to trade him elsewhere. The problem with that path, however, is that there’s no clarity as to whether that would be possible anytime soon,” Amick said.
The Warriors and Kings have restarted trade talks centered on Jonathan Kuminga, but Malik Monk’s contract remains a holdup, as the Warriors have zero interest in Monk and would prefer to trade him elsewhere, per @sam_amick

This reporting makes it clear that a Kuminga-to-Kings package seems very unlikely.

Add in the fact that Kuminga will have to agree to something within the next few days, and it casts even more doubt on the situation.

In all likelihood, it seems that Kuminga will accept an offering from the Warriors.

We don’t know what he will sign up for, but he will probably be with Golden State, at least when the season begins.

If the Warriors wanted Monk or saw a way to trade him, things could look different.

But they don’t currently want what he has to offer, and they can’t foresee another team wanting to take him on.

In many ways, a trade with the Kings is just too much work for the Warriors, so they’d rather hold on to Kuminga and see what their options are in the future.

This is a wildly unpredictable situation that seems to be changing often, so there is a chance it could look different in just a number of hours.

Details Emerge About Warriors’ 3 Offers To Jonathan Kuminga

Phoenix Suns v Golden State Warriors

Many people thought the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga would have signed a deal by now, but with training camp just a couple of days away, Kuminga is still not with the team.

And there is no clarity about what will happen next.

According to Shams Charania, there are three offers on the table for Kuminga.

The first is a two-year, $45 million deal with a team option on the final season.

The second is a three-year, $75.2 million deal that also has a team option.

Finally, there is a three-year, $54 million deal with no team option.

No one knows which Kuminga will agree to, or if he’ll accept any of them.

Here are the three offers the Warriors have on the table to Jonathan Kuminga:

• 2 years, $45 million – includes a team option on the final season

• 3 years, $75.2 million – includes a team option on the final season

• 3 years, $54 million – no team option

Kuminga probably likes the numbers that he sees, but he isn’t wild about the team option.

Reports have said that he wants a player option, which would give him more flexibility and control over his future.

These offerings might not give Kuminga everything he desires, but they are still pretty generous.

However, it may not be enough to get him on board.

Other teams, such as the Sacramento Kings, have shown interest in him, but they may be out of time.

There may be no other choices for Kuming, and he may be forced to pick from one of these options from the Warriors.

If he does come back, Kuminga will want more minutes and more opportunities.

Not just because he would want to help the Warriors win, but because he would hope to raise his value on the market for the next offseason.

Stephen Curry Reaches New Physical Levels Ahead Of This Season

Houston Rockets v Golden State Warriors - Game Six

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been in the league for 16 years, but according to someone very close to him, he’s never been better.

His trainer, Brandon Payne, recently spoke about Curry and the level he’s playing at.

Simply put, he believes the rest of the NBA should be very afraid.

“His first-step quickness and explosiveness is the fastest that it’s ever been, if not faster. But as players age, the one thing they can do is continue to work on processing information fast and make faster decisions to offset any gap that is created with losing a step. That hasn’t happened with him yet. So when you combine the fact that physically he’s still at a peak and now he’s making decisions faster, we have a very quick player out there,” Payne said.

Curry is 37 years old, so it would be understandable if he slowed down a little bit.

But Payne doesn’t think that’s happening.

He claims that his explosiveness and speed are only getting better, which is remarkable for someone his age.

Meanwhile, his decision-making is top-notch, which makes him one of the best point guards, ball handlers, and floor generals in basketball.

This is great news for Warriors fans who are hoping to witness Curry win at least one more championship before he retires.

Some people are writing the team off because of the age of Curry and his fellow Warriors players.

But this report from his trainer says that Curry will be in perfect shape when 2025-26 kicks off in a few weeks.

The West has never been tougher, so it may not be enough, but Curry is going to give it all he’s got.

Stephen Curry Gets Honest About New-Look Warriors

Golden State Warriors Media Day

Now that Jonathan Kuminga has signed a new deal, the Golden State Warriors‘ long offseason is almost complete.

The team is settled and ready to get started, and Stephen Curry likes their chances.

Speaking to NBC Sports, he talked about why he’s “happy” with the current look of the team.

“I think with this last little piece that needs to settle, I think I’m extremely happy with a different look,” Curry said. “We’re just trying to carry the momentum that we had from last year, understanding getting through an 82-game season is the challenge for every team, but especially a veteran team. But the way that we finished [2024-25] and the record that we had, and obviously before I got hurt during the [2025 NBA playoffs] second round, we were a relevant threat, and I think we’ve gotten better.”

Curry believes that his team is going to build upon the success they found last year, as long as he can stay healthy.

After many people counted them out toward the start of 2024-25, the Warriors were able to compete at a high level last season and made a powerful push into the playoffs.

Sadly, Curry got hurt, and when he went down, Golden State’s chances of reaching the Finals evaporated.

Curry feels his team had a lot of momentum last year, and he wants to carry that over into the new season.

For weeks, fans have grown increasingly nervous about this team because they couldn’t figure things out with Kuminga.

That is now out of the way, and the Warriors can get to work at making plans for the season ahead.

They have a roster, they have goals, and, most importantly, they have Curry at the center of it all.

Steve Kerr Has Honest Admission About Expiring Contract

Golden State Warriors v Houston Rockets - Game Seven

Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors is entering the final year of his head coaching contract.

Usually, there would be a lot of conversations about an extension with the front office, but that’s not what Kerr is interested in.

Speaking with ESPN, he didn’t sound a bit worried about his future with the team.

“I’m very comfortable going into the season with a year left,” Kerr said. “I’m so aligned with [general manager] Mike [Dunleavy] and [owner] Joe [Lacob]. We talked about this — there’s no reason for discussion or concern. This is kind of a point in our relationship where let’s just see how it is at the end of the year.”

Kerr is concentrated on one thing and one thing only: helping the Warriors win as much as possible in 2025-26.

He doesn’t know what the future holds, but he isn’t going to put much energy into thinking about it.

Just like Steph Curry and Draymond Green, Kerr has become one of the faces of the Warriors over the last decade, and their historic success wouldn’t be possible without him.

However, no NBA coaching job is ever 100 percent safe, and Kerr knows that he could be let go if the new season is a complete disaster for Golden State.

He is entering his 12th year as the team’s head coach and has the loyalty and love of all his players.

It would be a massive shock if the Warriors decide to cut ties with Kerr, but nothing is impossible in this league.

Kerr isn’t letting his mind wander and is remaining laser-focused on the campaign ahead.

De’Anthony Melton Speaks Out About Warriors Trading Him Last Season

Golden State Warriors Media Day

De’Anthony Melton didn’t play much for the Golden State Warriors last season, but he will be back in the new year.

He was a part of the team for just six games in 2024-25 before a season-ending injury pushed him to the sidelines.

After that, the team traded him to the Brooklyn Nets as a way to free up cash to acquire Dennis Schroder, although he never played another game in the season.

Now, he’s returning to Golden State and says there are no hard feelings about last year’s trade.

“I would’ve traded myself,” Melton said.

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) October 2, 2025

Melton knows that he wasn’t a huge asset to the team last year, but he is looking to change that in 2025-26.

During his six games with the Warriors, Melton averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 40.7 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from beyond the arc.

He wasn’t there for long, but he clearly left an impression on the rest of the team because the players and the front office wanted him back.

When the Warriors finally figured out the Jonathan Kuminga situation, they got to work on signing Melton and others.

Sadly, he is still in the late stages of his ACL rehab and might not be ready to start with the team on Opening Night.

He will probably miss a portion of the early season, but Melton will be back.

And when he is healthy and ready, he will try to make up for last season and finally prove what he is capable of bringing to the court for the Warriors.

Like the rest of the team, Melton will be on a mission this year.

Jonathan Kuminga Makes Jersey Number Change

Golden State Warriors v Phoenix Suns

After months of stories, speculation, and rumors, Jonathan Kuminga is now officially back with the Golden State Warriors.

He signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal and is ready to get back to work with the team.

After signing his new contract, Kuminga made a change: he selected a different jersey number.

According to Etienne Catalan, Kuminga is switching from No. 00 to No. 1.

That number was last worn by Kyle Anderson in 2025.

— Etienne Catalan (@EtienneCatalan) October 2, 2025

It’s time for a new number and maybe a new beginning for Kuminga.

Throughout this long process, he has said that he wants to play for a team that treats him better and has more confidence and belief in him.

It’s not clear if he will get that with the Warriors.

There is still a chance that he spends most of his time on the bench.

And there is also a strong possibility that he will be traded to another squad midway through the season.

He may have signed on the dotted line, but nothing is certain about Kuminga’s future with the team.

Regardless, Kuminga will play hard when he is given the opportunity.

He is going to perform the best he can, so he can help his team but also improve his trade value.

He knows that this new contact isn’t a long-term commitment, but rather a temporary solution.

Last season, Kuminga played in 47 games and was on the court for an average of 24.3 minutes per game.

He is hoping to receive more than that in the new season, but nothing is set in stone.

He’s coming back, but his role may not be very different during 2025-26.

Steve Kerr Reveals Jonathan Kuminga’s Role This Season

Memphis Grizzlies v Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga have finally come to terms on a new deal after months of negotiations and speculation.

Now that he is officially back with the team, everyone is wondering how much time he’ll spend on the court.

Speaking to the press, head coach Steve Kerr gave an update on what he expects for Kuminga in 2025-26.

“We’re going to run our offense through Steph and Jimmy … With JK, the more he can defend with activity, rebound, run the floor, and then there’s a better chance he has to play. You know, everybody progresses at a different rate,” Kerr said.
Kerr on Kuminga's role: "We're going to run our offense through Steph and Jimmy … With JK, the more he can defend with activity, rebound, run the floor, and then there's a better chance he has to play. You know, everybody progresses at a different rate."

— Joseph Dycus (@joseph_dycus) October 1, 2025

Kuminga is surely happy to hear that he could play more, because that is what he has wanted all along.

Last season, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 45.4 percent from the floor, only playing in 47 games and spending 24.3 minutes on the court.

The season before, he was a part of 74 games.

Kuminga has publicly stated that he wants to do more for his team, and that was at the crux of his contract dispute.

It sounds like Kerr is open to giving Kuminga more responsibilities, but he will have to earn it.

A lot of reporting has said that Kuminga won’t be with the team for very long.

Even though his new contract is for multiple years, it is assumed that the Warriors will shop him around in a few months before the trade deadline.

But even if that is the plan, Kuminga could still play more in the months ahead, which might help the Warriors.

If he does well, it could raise his trade value, which would ultimately assist Golden State if they try to move him in the future.

Kuminga is back with the team, at least for now, and it seems like he’ll get a decent amount of minutes at the start of the season.

Jonathan Kuminga Is Drawing Interest From 3 NBA Teams

Golden State Warriors v Phoenix Suns

Jonathan Kuminga is now officially back with the Golden State Warriors, but he may not be there for long.

Even though he just inked a new deal, many reports state that he could be leaving the team by the trade deadline in February.

According to Jake Fischer, he is already receiving interest from three other teams: the Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns.

The Bulls, Kings, and Suns are teams that still have interest in acquiring Jonathan Kuminga, per @JakeLFischer pic.twitter.com/796PFaM2hf

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) October 3, 2025

Seeing these teams pop up in this list isn’t surprising.

That’s especially true for the Kings, who have allegedly had an eye on Kuminga for some time.

In fact, a lot of people thought the Warriors would create a sign-and-trade deal that sent Kuminga to Sacramento, but that never happened.

They would obviously be one of the most-watched teams here, because they want Kuminga and will spend the next few months figuring out how to get him.

The Bulls and Suns would also be smart to try for him as well, because he is the sort of young player who can instantly fit into most rotations and could be built around.

It seems that the Warriors are serious about moving him later in the season.

As the trade deadline gets closer, there will be rumors of other teams contemplating a run at Kuminga.

Until then, he will try to earn as many minutes as possible with the Warriors.

This will not only help his current team, but it’ll make him more attractive to potential future squads as well.

Fans can expect to see Kuminga playing hard this year, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.

Seth Curry Has Decided On His Jersey Number With Warriors

Charlotte Hornets v Brooklyn Nets

For most of his NBA career, Seth Curry has worn No. 30 on his jerseys.

But that obviously won’t work now that he’s playing for the Golden State Warriors.

Thankfully, Curry has a backup number ready, and according to Etienne Catalan, he will wear No. 31 for the Warriors in 2025-26.

That number was last used by Kevin Knox II in 2025.

— Etienne Catalan (@EtienneCatalan) October 1, 2025

Curry just signed a one-year deal with the Warriors, which will provide Golden State with more support on the backcourt at an inexpensive rate.

It’ll also provide NBA fans with their first chance to see Curry play alongside his brother, Steph.

As everyone knows, Steph wears No. 30, so there was no way that Seth could use it too.

But he was happy to oblige and change his number, and he has worn No. 31 before during his career.

That career has seen him play for a number of teams, such as the Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, and more.

He was last with the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 6.8 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Unlike his brother, Seth probably won’t receive a ton of minutes in the new season, but he could provide helpful backup assistance when the Warriors need it.

It’ll be a special moment for the team and the Curry brothers.

Up until recently, the Warriors have been very quiet during the offseason.

This signing of Seth happened after weeks of rumors and speculation, with negotiations held up as the Warriors attempted to work out a deal with Jonathan Kuminga.

Now Seth is signed, his number is selected, and he’s preparing to show some brotherly love on the court.
