So can a pitcher win MVP this year? Well the one player in consideration is Justin Verlander and he is for sure having a spectacular year. It seems like every time he goes to the mound, he can throw a no hitter. And he has already thrown one no-hitter, and taken a few into the 8th inning. So is he MVP caliber?

I would say yes. I heard on ESPN, that The Tigers are 12 games over .500 in games Justin Verlander pitches. And right now the Tigers are only 13 games over .500. So he is definitely valuable to the Tigers. But there are a lot of other players who are valuable as well in the American League. Curtis Granderson, Jose Bautista, and Adrian Gonzalez are in consideration.

So should pitchers be considered for MVP? A lot of people think pitchers only pitch every 5 games, so they don't have a big enough impact on the team. But that is not really all true. I also heard on ESPN, that an average hitter gets around 600 plate appearances a year. But pitchers can take part in almost 1000 plate appearances in the season.

So is Justin Verlander going to win MVP?

Well it's rare to even think of a pitcher getting MVP, because the Cy Young award is pretty much the Most Valuable Pitcher award, and pitchers have a completely different purpose in baseball. As good as he's played, I don't think that he'll get MVP.

I'd hate to see him win MVP and Cy Young....there's a good chance it'll happen though.
