[UPDATE 5:10 PM] – Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Titans are signing former Cincinnati Bengals guard Cordell Volson to a 1-year deal worth up to $4.215 million:

[UPDATE 2:19 PM] – The Titans were heavily linked to John Franklin-Myers before free agency started. They made it happen! That’s a huge boost to the pass rush.

[UPDATE 1:00 PM] – Former Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum got a massive deal from the Las Vegas Raiders. The Titans want a veteran center, but the market is quickly drying up.

The negotiating ”legal tampering” for NFL free agency opens today. As a reminder, teams can negotiate contracts for free agents starting today. Nothing can be officially signed until the new league year opens on Wednesday. There have been times since this process started when a deal has been agreed on and reported that a player has later changed his mind. It doesn’t happen often, but nothing is official until it is signed.

The Tennessee Titans are expected to be very active in free agency. They currently have just over $92 million in cap space. That number will increase when they release L’Jarius Sneed, and something will probably happen with Calvin Ridley’s contract as well. They have plenty of money and plenty of needs to spend that money on.

The Titans’ biggest needs are at EDGE, cornerback, and wide receiver. They won’t be able to fix all of their needs in free agency, but they should be able to get a good start. They will have to fill out the rest in the draft.

Ranking the Tennessee Titans’ 9 NFL free agency signings from Monday

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi was incredibly busy during Monday’s opening day of legal tampering in free agency. So much for building through the NFL Draft. Borgonzi signed nine new players in less than 12 hours, and also re-signed Morgan Cox to make it 10 total deals.

The Titans were equipped with more than $90 million in cap space. Borgonzi worked furiously to improve a 3-14 roster. We’ve ranked the Titans’ opening nine free agent signings 1-9.

John Franklin-Myers, DL​

John Franklin-Myers was long-rumored to join the Titans. He’s an excellent pass-rushing defensive tackle who will fit so nicely next to Jeffery Simmons. Franklin-Myers is a home-run deal for a Titans defensive line that needed a makeover next to Simmons.

Alontae Taylor, CB​

Alontae Taylor is a super competitive cornerback with inside-outside versatility. It’s unclear where the Titans plan to align him, but Robert Saleh will possess options. Taylor loves to tackle and is scrappy around the line of scrimmage. He’s also a Tennessee Volunteers alum!

Wan’Dale Robinson, WR​

Wan’Dale Robinson was another free agent routinely connected to the Titans. His four-year contract worth $70 million reunites him with Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Robinson should be a quarterback-friendly target for Cam Ward.

Cor’Dale Flott, CB​

The Titans needed to retool the entire cornerback room. They successfully achieved that by adding Cor’Dale Flott to their crop of free agents. Flott signs a three-year, $45 million contract to help defend the outside. He’ll be a boundary corner in Saleh’s scheme.

Mitch Trubisky, QB​

Mitch Trubisky has developed into an excellent backup quarterback. He completed more than 70 percent of his passes across 2024-25 and threw for six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s a big-time upgrade over Brandon Allen, which is notable with Ward nursing an offseason shoulder surgery.

Joshua Williams, CB​

The Titans’ third cornerback signing arrived in the evening. Borgonzi is familiar with Joshua Williams from their time together with the Kansas City Chiefs. Williams is competitive enough to possibly claim a starting role inside, if the plan is to play Alontae Taylor inside.

Austin Schlottman, IOL​

Center Austin Schlottmann is familiar with Daboll’s scheme after executing it for the New York Giants in 2025. He performed admirably in a small sample size last season. The Titans should probably aim higher than Schlottmann for the starting role, but he’s a dependable floor raiser until further notice.

Daniel Bellinger, TE​

The Titans slightly overpaid for Daniel Bellinger at three years, $24 million. He’s an expert in-line blocker who knows Daboll’s scheme. Bellinger will diversify Tennessee’s tight end room, with Gunnar Helm replacing Chig Okonkwo as the primary pass catcher.

Cordell Volson, IOL​

Cordell Volson did not play last campaign due to a season-ending injury. The Titans are taking a chance on the former North Dakota State standout as a swing backup. He isn’t the solution at right guard. Volson is most likely the Blake Hance replacement at reserve guard.

Are the Titans in on Trey Hendrickson?

In all of the news yesterday, I missed this tweet from Terry McCormick:

Trey Hendrickson and Romeo Doubs are two of the big-time free agents who have the Titans on their radar. But the issue may be how much and how many big ticket items the Titans will spend on early in free agency.

Now, that tweet is a little convoluted. Does that mean that the Tennessee Titans are in on Trey Hendrickson, or that Hendrickson is in on the Titans? The Titans have a ton of available money, so it makes perfect sense that Hendrickson would be in on the Titans.

The Titans could certainly use Hendrickson. They have a desperate need for a pass rusher, and he is the best player available on the market. He had back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons in 2023 and 2024 for a terrible Bengals’ defense. He had a down year last year after suffering a core muscle injury that forced him to have season-ending surgery.

It sounds like the reason that Hendrickson hasn’t signed yet is that he is holding out for a huge payday:

$10 million is a pretty big gap. Hendrickson will turn 32 during the 2026 season. Coming off the injury he suffered last season, he might be forced to take a deal with less money than he is expecting. If the Titans could get him on a shorter-term deal with most of the money being paid in the first couple of years, I would be on board.

Titans sign John Franklin-Myers

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with free agent defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, according to. The contract is reportedly worth $63 million over the next 3 years, with $42 guaranteed. Franklin-Myers will be a huge upgrade to the pass rush in Robert Saleh’s system. He has had 14.5 sacks in the last two seasons. He and Jeffery Simmons will be a match-up nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators.

One of the biggest needs the Titans have this offseason is upgrading the pass rush. Franklin-Myers is a good start. They will still need to add some guys in free agency and the draft to raise the overall floor of the group.

Once the dust settles on the first couple of waves of free agency, we will reset the Titans’ needs as they head into the 2026 NFL Draft, but it is hard to see a scenario where EDGE isn’t still a big need when the draft rolls around at the end of April.

Titans trade for Cowboys DL Solomon Thomas

The Tennessee Titans are still busy trying to make their roster better. Today, they completed a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for defensive lineman Solomon Thomas. Thomas was the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played for Robert Saleh with the New York Jets. The Titans and Cowboys swapped 7th-round picks in the deal.

Mike Borgonzi has done a nice job of adding depth to the defensive line over the last couple of days. They still need to get some help at EDGE, but at this point, it is looking like that will have to come in the draft. There aren’t many quality options left on the free agent market.

Borgonzi and Saleh have been big on bringing in guys that they are familiar with. That makes sense because they will know the system and can help teach it to the younger guys.

Titans sign WR Wan’Dale Robinson

You could see this one coming from a mile away. The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver. Wan’Dale Robinson. As a reminder, these deals cannot become official until the new league year opens on Wednesday. Robinson’s contract is worth $78 million over 4 years with $38 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport.

Robinson found a lot of success in Brian Daboll’s offense the last couple of years. Last season, he had 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns. The Titans will still need to add a number one receiver in the draft, but Robinson is a big upgrade to the receivers they have on the roster.

Robinson and the Titans had been paired together in rumors since Daboll became the offensive coordinator here. The Titans were also linked to Alec Pierce, but he struck a big deal to stay with the Indianapolis Colts right before the legal tampering period kicked off.

Titans announce seven free agent signings and T’Vondre Sweat trade

Some of the free agent deals that have been reported over the last few days have been officially announced by the Tennessee Titans this morning. The team confirmed the signing of defensive lineman Jordan Elliott, center Austin Scholttman, cornerback Alontae Taylor, guard Cordell Volson, cornerback Co’Dale Flott, defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, and WR Wan’Dale Robinson.

Elliott spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He was a third-round pick out of Missouri in 2020. He was obviously with Robert Saleh last season, so he will bring with him familiarity with the system.

Speaking of familiarity with the system, Schlottman spent the last two seasons with Brian Daboll in New York. He went undrafted in 2017 but caught on with the Denver Broncos. He is expected to compete with Jackson Slater for the starting center position.

Taylor spent the first four years of his career with the New Orleans Saints after being a second-round pick out of the University of Tennessee. He is one of the few guys in this free agency class who doesn’t have familiarity with the coaching staff. Taylor immediately moves to the top of the cornerback depth chart.

Volson was a fourth-round pick in 2022. He started pretty much every game with the Cincinnati Bengals in his first three years before missing last season with a shoulder injury.

Flott had a fantastic year for the Giants last season. He was a third-round pick out of LSU in 2022. He and Taylor really upgrade what the Titans have at corner.

Franklin-Myers also has familiarity with Saleh from their time together with the New York Jets. It is going to be fun to watch him and Jeffery Simmons wreak havoc on opposing interior offensive linemen.

Robinson is a really solid WR2. He’s not a #1, but again, he raises the floor of the wide receiver group. Now, they need to find the guy who can be their #1 in the draft.

The team has also confirmed the trade with the Jets that sends former second-round pick T’Vondre Sweat to New York for EDGE Jermaine Johnson.

New Titans cornerback room will give them terrific flexibility

The Tennessee Titans have been incredibly active in free agency, acquiring more than a dozen players thus far. They’ve been busiest at cornerback, where they signed Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, and Joshua Williams. Collectively, the Titans committed $113 million to them, with Taylor ($58 million) and Flott ($45m) claiming the majority of that money.

The expectation is that L’Jarius Sneed will be released in the coming days. Darrell Baker Jr. already signed elsewhere. The Titans aren’t expected to bring Jalyn Armour-Davis or Kaiir Elam back, either. No, this is a totally different Titans cornerback room, with the three additions joining sophomore Marcus Harris as the top four players at the position.

When it comes to aligning these cornerbacks in the defensive backfield, the Titans will have options. The question starts with where Taylor will line up. The former Tennessee Volunteers standout played 566 snaps as a slot corner last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Taylor earned 295 reps as a boundary cornerback, and definitely has inside-outside flexibility. In 2024, he actually played way more snaps outside (605) compared to inside (358).

Our evaluation indicates Taylor has been most effective when playing the nickel. That role allows Taylor to help dictate action around the line of scrimmage. He’s a strong tackler in run support and can utilize his high football IQ to dissect offenses.

If Taylor plays the slot, the Titans would probably align Flott and Williams as the outside corners. Flott is 6-1 and Williams is 6-3 with near 33-inch arms. They are boundary corners, exclusively.

Is Williams good enough to be considered a full-time starter, though? He was a backup rotational corner for the Chiefs. Asking him to be a full-time starter may be a stretch of his abilities.

If Taylor plays outside with Flott, the Titans would have Harris at nickel. The sophomore inside corner performed very admirably during his rookie campaign, albeit through a small sample size.

The decision may come down to who the Titans prefer to field between Harris and Williams. That should be a legitimate battle throughout training camp. Perhaps Taylor and Flott play outside in base defense with Taylor moving to slot corner in nickel sets, with Williams replacing him outside. The Titans will have options.
