Ridley’s terrible game, brutal net yardage, and other Titans bullets

imagn-27096869.jpg

I don’t have to tell you this, but the wheels fell off this franchise the night that Jon Robinson traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Tennessee Titans moved into the building that is now called Nissan Stadium in 1999. In that time, they have really only had two receivers that could even arguably be called number one receivers, Derrick Mason and A.J. They thought they were getting another one when they signed Calvin Ridley. That has proven to be untrue.

  • Ridley has had a brutal start to the season. Just how bad has it been?
Per @NextGenStats, Calvin Ridley's CROE — catch rate over expected — was negative 39.7%. #Titans

— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) September 22, 2025
  • That is really unacceptable for how much the Titans are paying Calvin Ridley. Brian Callahan said in his press conference on Monday that no one works harder than Ridley. That’s all well and good, but right now, he is actually hurting the team on the field.
  • You know the Titans have been bad. How bad have they been?
net yardage this year:

398 – Buffalo Bills
334 – Atlanta Falcons
286 – Los Angeles Rams
286 – San Francisco 49ers
257 – Cleveland Browns
257 – Los Angeles Chargers
203 – Green Bay Packers
193 – Jacksonville Jaguars
152 – Detroit Lions
88 – New England…

— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) September 22, 2025
  • In case you can’t see that whole tweet, the Titans are dead last in net yardage at -454. That is a commentary on how bad both the offense and defense have been. Special teams is the only unit on this team that has been remotely good.
  • It’s hard to say if the new regime didn’t want Derrick Henry or if Henry didn’t want to be here for a rebuild. It sure would be nice to have found a way to work that out.

Titans trade Jarvis Brownlee to Jets

imagn-25157041.jpg

Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Tennessee Titans have traded Jarvis Brownlee to the New York Jets for a 2026 “late round swap.”

TRADE! The #Titans are trading Jarvis Brownlee to the Jets in exchange for a 2026 late round swap, per sources.

— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) September 23, 2025

There are quite a few veteran players whom it would make sense for the Titans to trade before the NFL trade deadline. Brownlee is not a guy who was on that list. He is only in his second year and has played well at times for the Titans. He does have some issues with committing penalties because he uses his hands too much at the top of routes, but he seems like a guy who would be worth keeping around while he is on his rookie contract.

Brownlee was one of the Titans’ starting corners to start the season. He missed last week’s game after he suffered an ankle injury in practice leading up to the Indianapolis Colts game.

He was a fifth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. John Glennon says the Titans are sending Brownlee and a 2026 seventh to the Jets for a 2026 sixth. This move really makes no sense.

#Titans sending Brownlee and a 2026 7th-round pick to Jets in exchange for a 2026 6th round-pick.

— John Glennon (@glennonsports) September 23, 2025

This leads me to believe that Brownlee was a problem in the locker room, and they just wanted to get rid of him. I haven’t heard that, but how else does this move make any sense?

Titans Reacts Survey Week 4

imagn-27141211.jpg

Each week, we post a “confidence poll” about the direction of the organization. It’s really a silly exercise because there is no possible way that anyone could be confident in the direction the Tennessee Titans are headed. What will be interesting to see is the results of this poll if/when Brian Callahan is fired.

There are really two things over the next few weeks that could make that happen in season:

The first is getting run out of the building this week in Houston against the Texans. There is nothing Amy Adams-Strunk hates more than being embarrassed in Houston.

The second is getting run out of the building when Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots come to town on October 19th. Amy also hates it when former employers embarrass her.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Titans fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Cam Ward listed as limited in Titans Wednesday practice

imagn-27141220.jpg

Well, as if this week hasn’t been crazy enough, Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward was listed on the Wednesday injury report as limited with an ankle/calf injury. Now, it is important to keep in mind that it is only Wednesday. There is no reason to panic yet. Ward finished Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, so we can assume that whatever is going on wasn’t bad enough to keep him from playing.

As for the rest of the report, JC Latham was listed as DNP once again. Brian Callahan didn’t give an update on Latham when he talked to the media earlier today. I’d be surprised if he played this week.

Kalel Mullings and Bryce Oliver were also listed as DNP.

Kevin Winston Jr. and Kevin Zeitler were both listed as limited. Winston Jr. has yet to play this season. If he isn’t able to go this week, it’s fair to ask why they didn’t put him on injured reserve to start the season. Zeitler missed last week’s game with that bicep injury. The fact that he was limited on Wednesday gives me hope he will play on Sunday.

Nico who, HOF nominees and other Titans bullets

imagn-25631349.jpg

The Tennessee Titans were back on the practice field yesterday. Here’s to hoping that the only thing we have to talk about coming out of this game is the play on the football field. It probably won’t be good, but I’m over talking about coaching blunders, why they traded a promising young player, and things like that.

  • The Titans have 6 players on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Nominations list:
.@ProFootballHOF Modern Era Player Nominations, initial list of 128 players includes:

Steve McNair
Eddie George
Chris Johnson
Delanie Walker
Jurrell Casey
Gary Anderson

  • It’s doubtful that any of those guys get into the Hall of Fame, but it is cool to see them on the list. This is the first year for Jurrell Casey. He was a really good player here for a long time.
  • L’Jarius Sneed was asked about covering Nico Collins this weekend against the Houston Texans:

  • Nico’s response:

Titans need to use Jarvis Brownlee trade as motivation to play young CBs

gettyimages-2186873073.jpg

The Tennessee Titans shockingly traded cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to the New York Jets in a late-round pick swap. The fanbase understandably reacted with confusion and frustration, but what’s done is done. The Titans need to use this opportunity to give snaps to the young cornerbacks they claimed off waivers.

The Titans held the No. 1 waiver wire priority after cut-down day. Mike Borgonzi used that advantage to claim two cornerbacks, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Samuel Womack. They should be the cornerbacks getting snaps in Brownlee’s absence opposite L’Jarius Sneed and Roger McCreary.

Armour-Davis was the most popular waiver wire candidate in the league, but the Titans had first dibs. He made his Titans debut against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. He split snaps with Darrell Baker Jr., and Brian Callahan made it sound like that rotation will continue in Week 4 versus the Houston Texans.

Armour-Davis earned 19 snaps against the Colts. The former Alabama standout was credited with allowing one reception on his lone target in coverage for 15 yards. Baker Jr. played double the amount of snaps, 38, allowing just one catch for six yards. Hopefully Armour-Davis evens the snap-count.

Womack has not featured for the Titans this year. He played extensively for the Colts, earning 673 snaps throughout 2024. Womack allowed 27 receptions on 44 targets, per PFF, 388 yards and four touchdowns. He logged seven pass breakups and two interceptions.

The Brownlee trade is difficult to comprehend. The Titans need more impact starters on cost-controlled contracts throughout this lengthy rebuild, not fewer. Obviously Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker, who inherited Brownlee from the previous regime, didn’t see him as a long-term fit.

Borgonzi and Brinker are rebuilding the Titans in their vision. They obviously believe they’ll receive ample opportunity to revamp the roster. They brought in Armour-Davis and Womack, so Callahan needs to play those corners.

Titans vs. Texans final injury report: JC Latham out again

imagn-24795414.jpg

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said after practice today that both JC Latham and Bryce Oliver will be OUT Sunday against the Houston Texans. This is three straight that Latham has missed. Callahan also announced that Uli Udoh will get the start at right tackle. Whoo Boy!

Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, who was signed to the active roster today, will be the backup tackle for this one with John Ojukwo likely being inactive. I’ll set the over/under for when they send BCD out there for Udoh out there at 8:00 left in the second quarter. Place your bets in the comments.

Cam Ward was a full participant in yesterday’s practice. I’d assume he won’t have an injury designation heading into the game. That’s at least one injury issue that was avoided for the Titans this season.

I will update this post with the full injury report for both teams once it is posted later today.

Titans add undrafted free agent rookie to 53-man roster

imagn-26714998.jpg

As the Tennessee Titans prepare for their third straight game without starting right tackle JC Latham, they have signed offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson to the 53-man roster. BCD was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft. He made the initial 53-man roster out of camp and was inactive for the first game. The Titans cut him before week two, but added him back to the practice squad.

The Titans have been without Latham since the second half of the week one loss to the Denver Broncos. He hasn’t practiced this week, so it appears he will miss his third straight game. If he misses next week against the Arizona Cardinals, you will have to wonder why they didn’t put him on IR after week one.

Of course, Kevin Winston, Jr. is on track to miss his fourth straight game. Has anyone checked in with the front office to see if they know how short-term IR works? It might be a question worth asking.

Will BCD get the start at right tackle on Sunday? It might be worth a shot, considering how poorly John Ojukwu and Oli Udoh have played the last few weeks.

Titans-Texans: 5 potential X-Factors

gettyimages-2236783049.jpg

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – SEPTEMBER 21: Calvin Ridley #0 of the Tennessee Titans looks on during the fourth quarter of the NFL 2025 game against the Indianapolis Colts at Nissan Stadium on September 21, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Johnnie Izquierdo/Getty Images)

The Tennessee Titans will play the Houston Texans on Sunday in Week 4. Both struggling teams are desperate for a victory after winless 0-3 starts. The rebuilding Titans were expected to struggle, but the Texans entered 2025 as AFC South division favorites.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan badly needs a win. Rumors of a potential coaching change have begun swirling after Callahan gave up play-calling duties to QB coach Bo Hardegree earlier this week. We’ve identified five potential Titans who could serve as x-factor performers against the Texans.

Dan Moore

The Texans have a ferocious pass-rushing duo in Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. Indications are JC Latham could be sidelined another week with his hip injury. If the Titans need to slide help John Ojukwu and/or Oli Udoh’s way, then Dan Moore needs to survive on an island against Hunter and Anderson Jr.

Jeffery Simmons

Jeffery Simmons has easily been the Titans’ best player. If the Texans have a glaring weakness, it’s the interior of their offensive line. Simmons especially has advantages over guards Laken Tomlinson and Ed Ingram. The Titans need their superstar defensive tackle to be a game wrecker.

L’Jarius Sneed

L’Jarius Sneed repeatedly asked, “who?” when asked about Texans star receiver Nico Collins. That was a bold statement for a cornerback who’s been fully healthy for two games. Sneed is finding his confidence, but any one-on-one matchup with Collins is a difficult assignment.

Jalyn Armour-Davis

The Jarvis Brownlee trade creates an opportunity for waiver wire cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis. The former Alabama standout made his debut in Week 3, earning 19 defensive snaps. Armour-Davis will probably be tasked with shouldering a much larger workload on Sunday.

Calvin Ridley

Calvin Ridley has the third-lowest catch rate in the NFL, according to Next Gen Stats (38.1%). Focus drops have been a persistent issue. The Titans’ offense needs Calvin Ridley to snap out of his funk, and the Texans will be without No. 1 cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Brian Callahan addresses the Jarvis Brownlee trade (kind of)

imagn-27152994.jpg

Well, today’s Brian Callahan press conference went about as well as I expected. He addressed the Jarvis Brownlee trade at the beginning and said he was going to leave it at that. He then, of course, was asked questions about the trade and proceeded to talk in circles. The local media in attendance is going in on him pretty hard about it:

Brian Callahan at maximum ridiculousness. Says trade wasn’t about the player specifically. How is trading Jarvis Brownlee not about Jarvis Brownlee?!?! #Titans

— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) September 24, 2025

Kuharsky is not wrong here. It’s obvious the Tennessee Titans traded Brownlee because of something they didn’t like that he was doing outside of his play on Sundays. Callahan understandably doesn’t want to throw the player under the bus, but he has to be better at handling these questions.

This word salad might have been the best one of the day:

Brian Callahan said the Jarvis Brownlee Jr. trade has short and long term interests but wouldn't get into what those are. pic.twitter.com/o53hEw6cki

— TURRON DAVENPORT (@TDavenport_NFL) September 24, 2025

Hard not to think of this scene from Billy Madison after that one:

People jumped all over Mike Vrabel because of his refusal to answer questions after he had made a statement on the issue. That can be incredibly frustrating at times, but it serves the coach better than just talking in circles like Callahan did today. We all appreciate Callahan’s candor, but sometimes he would be better served by making a statement and then just flat out refusing to answer any further questions on the subject.

Titans lose 26-0 to the Texans

gettyimages-2237901445.jpg

I am running out of things to write. I have been a fan of this team since they moved here in the late 90s, and this is the worst team they have ever had. There is nothing positive about this team. Before today, the special teams had been really good. Today, Joey Slye missed two field goals.

The Tennessee Titans’ offense didn’t even make it to the red zone today. So much for getting a bump by changing play-callers. The entire operation is bad on offense. Cam Ward was bad today. The offensive line was terrible again, and Bill Callahan has done absolutely nothing to make them any better.

The defense played pretty well in the beginning of the game; they got a couple of sacks, but they wore down as the game went on. There were also multiple busted coverages, including L’Jarius Sneed letting Nico Collins run right past him on a 2nd and 33 to pick up 37 yards. He probably shouldn’t run his mouth ever again because he is the worst acquisition in the history of the franchise.

Brian Callahan should be fired this week. That doesn’t solve anything, but something has to give here. He’s clearly not going to turn this thing around.

Titans vs. Texans open game thread

imagn-27141061.jpg

Today starts the Bo Hardegree era of play-calling. It will be interesting to see if there is any significant difference in the offense today versus the first three weeks. Hardegree has reportedly elected to call plays from the sideline instead of in the booth. That probably makes the most sense considering he has been on the sideline with Cam Ward thus far this season.

Brian Callahan is now officially coaching for his job. They don’t want to fire him in-season, but they might not be able to stop Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams-Strunk from flying off the handle if he does something stupid or the Titans get blown out by the Houston Texans.

Lost if all of the mess with the Titans this week has been the fact that the Texans are also 0-3, and apparently have some drama going on in their locker room with C.J. Stroud. It sure would be nice to go down there and send them into a full-on tailspin after they were the heavy favorites to win the AFC South this year.

Use this thread to discuss the game.

Titans vs. Cardinals opening odds: Tennessee opens as a 9.5-point underdog

imagn-27194057.jpg

For the fifth straight week to open the season, the Tennessee Titans are an underdog. This week, they are a 9.5-point underdog on the road against the Arizona Cardinals over at FanDuel Sportsbook. My first thought when I saw that was, man, that’s a really big number. To put it in perspective, there are 10 games listed at FanDuel for Sunday, and only three of them have a spread of seven or bigger. The Titans are currently the biggest underdog for week five.

That’s not really a surprise, of course. Through four weeks, the Titans are pretty clearly the worst team in the NFL. We will look at power rankings tomorrow, and it is hard for me to believe that anyone will have the Titans not ranked 32nd. It’s been that bad so far.

The X-factor for this team has to be Cam Ward. He has to find a way to put this team on his back for a game and get them their first win. That’s the only way I can see them winning a game this season. That’s a lot to ask of a rookie quarterback, but that’s what happens when you are the number one overall pick.

Titans to open Tyjae Spears window to return from IR

gettyimages-2191772885.jpg

Tyjae Spears started the season on injured reserve due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the preseason. Ian Rapoport reported this morning that the Tennessee Titans are expected to open his practice window this week. That gives the Titans three weeks to either activate him or place him on season-ending IR.

Getting Spears back should give the offense at least a slight bump. That gives them another option outside of Tony Pollard in the run game, and Spears is a good receiver out of the backfield. I cannot wait to see them try a screen to him that goes for zero yards.

Spears has been with the Titans since they drafted him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 765 yards rushing and six touchdowns in his career.

The Titans made a couple more moves today on the practice squad:

Practice squad moves for the @Titans:

RB Blake Watson
DB Alex Johnson

Waived:
RB Raheem Blackshear
OT Andrew Rupcich

It’s a little bit surprising to see them waive Rupcich. If I were the Titans, I would be keeping every single offensive tackle I could get my hands on.

NFL power rankings week five and the Tennessee Titans

imagn-27194064.jpg

Well, this should be fun. I am typing this intro before I have looked at any power rankings. I will be shocked if anyone has the Tennessee Titans not ranked 32nd. There are other 0-4 teams, but no one, and I mean absolutely no one, has looked as inept as the Titans. The only reason someone doing these rankings wouldn’t have the Titans ranked last would be if they haven’t actually watched them play. I’ll be honest, I’m kind of jealous of that person.

Here we go:

CBS: 31

How much longer does Brian Callahan have as the coach? Getting shutout by the Texans is not a good look.

Sports Illustrated: 31

I wrote about what I see as the Brian Callahan era possibly coming to an end. This is going to be a fascinating test of new leadership in Tennessee and the bad habits of existing ownership. Can new general manager Mike Borgonzi, who, by all accounts, has fared well in his first draft class, translate his skill set to reading the room?

NBC Sports: 32

They’re lucky relegation isn’t a thing.

ESPN: 32

The Titans have struggled mightily to score points, leading to their first 0-4 start since 2009. They’re averaging 1.8 red zone visits per game, which ranks 31st in the NFL. They failed to reach the red zone at all against the Texans. And the rare occasions when the Titans reached the red zone in the first three weeks weren’t fruitful, either. Their 48.6% red zone touchdown conversion rate is sixth worst in the league. — Turron Davenport

The Athletic: 32

The first-round quarterback has shown flashes on the field and takes the Week 4 candor award for saying about his team after Sunday’s loss: “We ass.” Fourth-round wide receiver Elic Ayomanor has been a bright spot and was targeted seven times Sunday. He only caught two of those passes, but he still led the team with 44 receiving yards. He has 12 catches for 151 yards on the season.

Titans head coaching candidates: Hot-Shot 1st-Timers

gettyimages-2192093613.jpg

ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK – DECEMBER 29: Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady of the Buffalo Bills looks on prior to a game against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium on December 29, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by Bryan Bennett/Getty Images

Yesterday morning, we published an article on potential Tennessee Titans head coaching candidates. That article featured retread candidates such as Brian Flores and Mike McCarthy. Brian Callahan hasn’t been fired yet, but it feels inevitable, so we’re continuing to look at potential successors.

Today’s exercise focuses on the alternative candidates, the hot-shot first-timers. Callahan was of this variety, rising up the coaching ranks after an impressive stint as the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator (though he didn’t call plays). NFL fans are most excited when their team hires a coordinator, as the retread is often categorized as “boring.”

If the Titans go the first-timer route again, these candidates will be among the popular league-wide options.

Joe Brady, Buffalo Bills OC

Joe Brady projects as the hottest candidate in the league come January. The Buffalo Bills are 4-0 and Josh Allen is the reigning MVP. Before the Titans seriously consider Brady, they need to ask why he’s thrived with Joe Burrow and Allen, but struggled in Carolina. Unfortunately, the Callahan mistake means the Titans need to approach this process with caution.

Jesse Minter, Los Angeles Chargers DC

The 42-year-old Jesse Minter won a National Championship at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh and now he’s thriving alongside him at the NFL level with the Los Angeles Chargers. Minter also worked under John Harbaugh in Baltimore, a path that’s proved fruitful for Mike Macdonald and the success he’s having in Seattle. He’s worked at other programs such as Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, and his father was the former head coach at Cincinnati.

Todd Monken, Baltimore Ravens OC

Why has the 59-year-old Todd Monken never been an NFL head coach? That’s a legitimate question. The former Knox College quarterback has done outstanding work with the Ravens and Lamar Jackson as one of the most flexible coordinators in the league. He has head coaching experience, leading Southern Miss from 2013-15. Monken would be terrific for Cam Ward’s development.

Jeff Hafley, Green Bay Packers DC

Jeff Hafley was Boston College’s head coach for four seasons (2020-23). Titans GM Mike Borgonzi is from Massachusetts and worked at BC in 2007-08. They’re surely familiar with one another. Hafley is advancing his resume as the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator this season.

Chris Shula, Los Angeles Rams DC

How many Sean McVay assistants get head coaching jobs? Chris Shula could be next. The legendary Shula family has produced another prodigy as the fast-rising 39-year-old is excelling as McVay’s defensive coordinator this year. He’ll get interviews.

Others who could garner consideration; Mike Kafka (Giants OC), Adam Stenavich (Packers OC), Kevin Patullo (Eagles OC), Drew Petzing (Cardinals OC), Bobby Babich (Bills DC), Klint Kubiak (Seahawks OC).

Kafka worked with Borgonzi in KC and has received interviews in the past. Stenavich is working under Matt LaFleur and spent multiple seasons with Chad Brinker in GB. Patullo nearly crossed paths with Borgonzi in KC and also crossed paths with Dennard Wilson in Philadelphia (probably not notable).

Titans missing two starters at Wednesday practice

gettyimages-2236608215.jpg

Well, we are officially on week four of JC Latham’s injury. The Tennessee Titans chose not to put Latham on injured reserve after he was injured in the week one loss to the Denver Broncos. That decision will look foolish if Latham isn’t able to go this week. Of course, Latham would not have healed any quicker had he been on IR, but the Titans could have had an extra roster spot to play with for the last month.

Calvin Ridley also missed practice on Wednesday. He didn’t play much, if at all, in the loss to the Houston Texans last week. There was some buzz about the reason for that, but Brian Callahan said on Monday that it was because of an injury. He did come up limping at one point in the second half, but he did play at least a few more plays after that happened.

As always, there is the disclaimer that today is just Wednesday. Guys, especially veterans like Ridley, can miss Wednesday at times without it being a big deal. It is something to keep an eye on as the week progresses.

Bryce Oliver and Blake Hance also missed Wednesday’s practice.

Titans LB Cedric Gray had a career-best day in Week 4

gettyimages-2233573051.jpg

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – AUGUST 22: Cedric Gray #51 of the Tennessee Titans in coverage during an NFL Preseason 2025 game against the Minnesota Vikings at Nissan Stadium on August 22, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Logan Bowles/Getty Images)

There weren’t really any positive takeaways from the Tennessee Titans’ embarrassing shutout loss to the Houston Texans. If there’s one player whose performance was worthwhile, it was sophomore linebacker Cedric Gray. Gray enjoyed a career-best day, making a personal-high 17 tackles on defense.

Pro Football Focus also saw Gray’s performance in a positive light. His 90.2 overall defensive grade and 90.0 run-defense grade were both career highs. Gray was PFF’s second-highest graded overall linebacker in Week 4, trailing just superstar ‘backer Fred Warner (90.9).

What’s perhaps most impressive is Gray wasn’t credited with a single missed tackle. PFF had him with an 18-tackle day (12 solo tackles, six assists). Gray was credited with six run stops, a positive result for the defense that constitutes a “failure” for the offense, per their definition. It was the most single-game tackles by a Titans LB since Akeem Ayers in Week 3, 2012 (vs. DET), per James Foster.

Cedric Gray had 17 tackles yesterday, most for a Titans LB in a single game since Akeem Ayers in Week 3, 2012 (vs. DET) pic.twitter.com/JCR7tiBFK9

— James Foster (@NoFlagsFilm) September 29, 2025

Gray’s performance was particularly notable. After playing a significant amount of snaps in Weeks 1 and 2, the sophomore fourth-rounder saw his playing-time cut by a large margin in Week 3, with practice squad call-up Kyzir White getting a rotational opportunity. Gray was back to a full workload versus the Texans, and the coaching staff will think twice about benching him again.

If Gray struggled in one area in Houston, it was as a coverage defender. PFF credited him with allowing six receptions on six targets. Those catches only gained 54 yards, less than a first-down conversion (9.0) per completion. Coverage continues to be a weak-point of Gray’s game, however.

The winless Titans are searching for answers. Gray isn’t a surefire long-term solution yet, but the sophomore linebacker is enjoying a much better season after watching his rookie campaign be totally derailed by injury. The Titans were totally embarrassed in Houston, but Gray’s arrow continues to trend upwards.

Checking in on how Bo Hardegree did in his first game calling plays for the Titans

The Tennessee Titans got shut out and didn’t even get into the red zone in their loss to the Houston Texans. That really tells you all you need to know about Bo Hardegree’s first game calling plays. We know it was bad, but just how bad was it? Let me show you a couple of charts:

Bo Hardegree broke the chart in his first week of play calling with the Titans after taking over for Brian Callahan.

As the tweet says, Hardegree broke the chart in the wrong direction. Maybe he shouldn’t have tried all of those trick plays in the first half? After reading about the success that Hardegree had when he took over calling plays for the Raiders, I actually had some hope that we would get a bump in offensive production. We did not.

For the season, both the offensive playcallers and Dennard Wilson, the defensive playcaller, have been really bad:

I’m not sure exactly what those numbers mean, but when the gap between number 1 and number 31 is almost as big as the gap between number 31 and the Titans at number 32, you know it’s really bad.

The only positive here is that the Titans will have new playcallers on both sides of the ball next year.

Calvin Ridley and JC Latham miss second straight day of Titans practice

imagn-24994314.jpg

Both Calvin Ridley and JC Latham were listed as “did not practice” for the second straight day. Jim Wyatt did say that Ridley was seen doing some work on a side field. That does give some hope that he will be able to go on Sunday when the Tennessee Titans face the Arizona Cardinals. He probably needs to at least get a limited practice in tomorrow to have a chance.

JC Latham also missed his second straight day of practice. I will save you the dialogue on them not putting Latham on injured reserve after the week one loss to the Denver Broncos. Latham seems like a lock to miss his fourth straight game.

Tyjae Spears, who has been on injured reserve, was listed as limited once again today. The Titans opened his return window this week, so there is a chance he can go on Sunday. He looks pretty healthy from the videos posted on Twitter:

Spears would give the Titans a little boost on offense. At the very least, he could take some of the work off of Tony Pollard. Pollard has been great, but he wasn’t signed to be a bellcow.
