Ravens LB Terrell Suggs, who was named the Defensive Player of the Year last season, has torn his Achilles tendon either playing basketball or conditioning (sources have said both) and will likely miss all of the 2012 season.

The Ravens haven't seen the MRI yet, so they don't yet know if it's a full tear or just a partial tear. His surgery is scheduled for next week.

Suggs told a source that he thinks he will be back by as early as October.

This is gonna be a big loss to the Ravens D.

This reminds me of the time when Steve Smith broke his forearm playing flag football. This is a big loss for the Ravens. The Ravens defense sounds far less dominant with Terrell Suggs on the sidelines.

Very big loss for the Ravens. I don't know if they will be able to recover from this. He is the best player on their defense and now they have to play a whole season without him. They still have Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Haloti Ngata, but it's going to be hard to make up for the loss of Terrell Suggs.

Apparently, Suggs has "vowed" he will return sometime this coming season, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

I am sure that he will be physically capable to play football by October, the only problem is the risk of reinjury. If I was Suggs, I would listen to the doctors and take the full season off.

That stinks for the Ravens. I'm not complaining, though. That means we have to play him 2 less times. :P
