The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with veteran backup quarterback Byron Leftwich.

Terms of the one-year deal were not disclosed.

Leftwich missed the entire 2011 season after breaking his left arm in the preseason. The 32-year-old Leftwich has thrown just seven passes since the Steelers signed him in 2010.

I'm glad they resigned him. I wanted them to let Charlie Batch go, and then pick up a quarterback in the draft. They signed Batch and Leftwich, and they have the starter Ben Roethlisberger of course. That's three quarterbacks. Dennis Dixon is now a free agent, after doing pretty much nothing for the Steelers since they drafted him in 2008. With three quarterbacks signed, no Dennis Dixon, and they may wait until next season to draft a backup quarterback. I really hope Byron Leftwich can stay healthy. Ben Roethlisberger always has some kind of injury during the season, so they need a good second string quarterback. Charlie Batch just isn't the guy that can fill those shoes, even with his good performances in a couple games last season.
