Quick bites: New opponent, same story

Once again, the San Jose Sharks took a lead into the third period and once again, the team lost. San Jose went from being up 2-1 over the Ottawa Senators when the puck dropped at the start of the third to down 3-2 with 17 minutes left to play. It was a less than ideal situation that this team has seen far too often this season. We won’t cannibalize his work, but as San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng…

Sharks at Maple Leafs (game 62): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks are looking to erase an eight game losing streak tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. San Jose hasn’t won a game since Jan. 27, more than a month ago. This is the final stop on the Sharks’ trip through Canada and it winds up with perhaps the most formidable of all the opponents. Luckily for the Sharks, the Leafs were taken to overtime in Pittsburgh last night while the…

Sharks at Sabres (game 63): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The road-weary San Jose Sharks are in the final stretch of the team’s longest road trip of the season, but at least the players will enter Buffalo with a spring in their step. The Sharks’ come from behind victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night should give the players a little adrenaline boost as they try to complete game two in just over 24 hours. Luckily for the Sharks…

Quick bites: Sharks finally get a W

The San Jose Sharks had been circling around a win for a few games now. The Sharks almost beat the Montreal Canadiens last Thursday. The team came close to beating the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 24. Both games were lost in overtime. But somehow, the Sharks couldn’t find that extra little help the team needed to win. Last night, the players did, roaring back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Toronto Maple…

Sharks add defenseman Vincent Desharnais

The San Jose Sharks have made another trade as the trade deadline approaches, this time bringing in a player instead of sending one out. The Sharks have acquired 28-year-old defenseman Vincent Desharnais from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2028 fifth-round pick. Desharnais is in the first year of a two-year deal that pays him $2 million per season, according to Puckpedia.

Igor Chernyshov is everything we could have hoped for postdraft

It doesn’t take a genius to see that San Jose left the first night of the 2024 draft with the best haul the team could have imagined, with a potential top-pairing defenseman in Sam Dickinson and a generational forward in Macklin Celebrini. But in snapping up the talented Russian forward Igor Chernyshov with the first pick of the second round, the Sharks may have added another potential star.

Sharks at Avalanche (game 64): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks will be without Nico Sturm and Luke Kunin today, as the team prepares for the final game of the road trip, this one against the Colorado Avalanche. Sturm was traded earlier today to the Florida Panthers, while Kunin is being kept out for “roster management” reasons, according to multiple sources. Luckily for the Sharks, it sounds like Nikolai Kovalenko will be…

Sharks trade Walman to Oilers

The San Jose Sharks continued the fire sale on Thursday night/Friday morning, selling off a player with term. The Sharks sent defenseman Jake Walman to the Edmonton Oilers because the return was simply too good to resist. The Sharks received a conditional 2026 first-round pick and forward Carl Berglund for Walman. Walman played 50 games for the Sharks this season, registering 32 points (6 G…

Sharks trade Zetterlund to the Senators

This one hurts. The San Jose Sharks have traded Fabian Zetterlund to the Ottawa Senators. The deal includes Tristen Robins and a fourth-round going to the Senators for prospect Zach Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and a 2025 second round pick. It was first reported by Bruce Garrioch of the Postmedia. Zetterlund was a piece from the trade that sent Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils.

Quick bites: Trade clouds hang over Sharks

The San Jose Sharks did its best to shine through the trade clouds looming over the worst team in the NHL, but it’s hard when rumors affect who is in the locker room next to you. While San Jose’s players worked hard in last night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche, the loss of Nico Sturm earlier in the day and the removal of Jake Walman and Luke Kunin from the lineup because of potential trades…

Islanders at Sharks (game 65): Lines, game thread and how to watch

Both the San Jose Sharks and the New York Islanders are facing the post-trade deadline blues. Both teams were sellers at the trade deadline, though the cuts to San Jose were much deeper. Sharks fans can go through the past ten posts or so to see how much was lost. It hurts a bit to talk about it here. One of the big questions today in Sharks’ Territory is how are the players doing…

Looking closer at the Fabian Zetterlund trade

Heading into the second half of the season, it was clear that the Sharks were a shopping mall, and barring a few untouchables, virtually everyone was on sale for the right price. Most fans expected leaders like Mikael Granlund and Luke Kunin to get traded, and even the Jake Walman deal was met with acceptance. But Fabian Zetterlund’s trade to Ottawa sparked bewilderment. Zetterlund simply isn’…

Sharks trade Kunin to Blue Jackets

What appears to be the San Jose Sharks’ last trade chip is now off the board. The Sharks traded Luke Kunin to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fourth-round pick, according to NHL insiders. The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported just an hour before the trade deadline that the Sharks made a deal for Kunin. According to The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline, who covers the Columbus Blue…

Sharks trade Sturm to Panthers

General Manager Mike Grier continues to clear the unrestricted free agents off the San Jose Sharks’ roster, and this time, it’s Nico Sturm heading out of town. Doing the best he can by Sturm, Grier traded the depth center and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Florida Panthers for 2026 fourth-round pick. The 29-year-old Sturm appeared in 47 games for the Sharks this season. He had 13 points (7…

Predators at Sharks (game 65): Lines, game thread and how to watch

For the San Jose Sharks, now is the time for the team to see what their young players have. Shakir Mukhamadullin and Timothy Liljegren will get more playing time down the stretch with the departure of Jake Walman. Both players are taking on top four minutes tonight against the Nashville Predators. It’s a very winnable game for the Sharks, who will take on an injury ridden and trade deadline…

How can Dustin Wolf beat Macklin Celebrini in the Calder race?

Since the turn of the century, the Calder Trophy has been won by three goaltenders, five defensemen and 16 forwards. This season, there are three top contenders for the prize as we near the final quarter of the season. One is a defender, Lane Hutson, with the Montreal Canadiens. Another is a goaltender, Dustin Wolf, with the Calgary Flames. Then there’s the San Jose Sharks’ best hope…

Quick bites: Sharks play improves despite loss

This was a tough one for the San Jose Sharks to swallow. Despite a third period rally that included two quick goals to tie the game, the Sharks fell to the Nashville Predators 3-2 in regulation. It was an unfortunate end to a game that the Sharks played well overall. Picking up where the team left off in the game against the New York Islanders on Saturday, the Sharks continued to drive the…

Blackhawks at Sharks (game 67): Lines, game thread and how to watch

For the first time this season, the 2023 first-overall pick and the 2024 first-overall pick will square off on the ice. The Chicago Blackhawks visit the San Jose Sharks tonight in a showdown that will focus on two of the NHL’s young rising stars — Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini. Bedard is in the middle of what could be called a sophomore slump of a season. The 19-year-old has 52 points in 65…

Quick Bites: Rookie Graf shines in youngster showdown

The San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks: two teams in similar positions as rebuilders, but that at times have shown stark contrasts in their spirits as the losses for both teams pile up. As the two met last night for the third and final time this season, all eyes were on the 2023 and 2024 first-overall picks, Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini, as they faced off against each other for the…

Capitals at Sharks (game 68): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The eyes of the NHL will be on San Jose today as Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals continues his chase for Wayne Gretzky’s goal scoring record. Ovechkin has 886 career goals, single digits away from Gretzky’s career 894 goals. With 18 games remaining in the season for the Capitals’ captain has a chance to break the record this season.
