It took 112 minutes and 8 seconds, but the Chicago Blackhawks are one step closer to the Stanley Cup.

The Blackhawks rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits on Wednesday night before beating the Boston Bruins 4-3 in triple overtime to capture Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at United Center. Chicago got third-period goals by Dave Bolland and Johnny Oduya, and no one scored again until Andrew Shaw's deflection went past Tuukka Rask 12:08 into the third extra period.

It was the fifth-longest in the history of the Stanley Cup Final. Here are some of the key numbers from a game for the ages.

1 -- Career playoff goals for Chicago rookie Brandon Saad, who didn't score through three rounds this spring but fired home a shot 3:08 into the second for his first postseason goal.

2 -- Penalties for having too many men on the ice called against Chicago in overtime. Chicago took only one other penalty in the game.

3
-- Goals this spring by Chicago defenseman Johnny Oduya, who tied the game with 7:46 left in regulation. Oduya managed three goals during the regular season.

4 -- Victories by the Blackhawks in their four Game 1s this spring. Boston was 3-0 in series openers before losing Wednesday night.

5 -- Rank of Chicago's Game 1 victory on the list of longest games in the history of the Stanley Cup Final. It was 3:05 short of the record set by the Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the 1990 Final.

FULL SERIES COVERAGE AND SCHEDULE ›

6 -- Consecutive home victories for the Blackhawks this spring. Chicago improved to 10-1 at the United Center.

7 -- Losses by the Bruins in their seven overtime road games in the Stanley Cup Final.

8 -- Games in the history of the Stanley Cup Final that have gone past two overtimes. The Blackhawks are the first home team in NHL history to win a playoff game in three overtimes.

9 -- Years between Stanley Cup Final assignments for linesman Brian Murphy, who worked Game 1 with Shane Heyer. Murphy had not worked in the Final since Game 7 in 2004, when the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Calgary Flames 2-1 to win the Cup.

10 -- Shots on goal by Chicago's Marian Hossa, the most by any player on either team. Every Blackhawk had at least one shot on goal except forward Marcus Kruger and defenseman Michal Rozsival -- and it was Rozsival's blast from the point that wound up deflecting off Andrew Shaw and into the net for the winning goal.

15 -- Series this spring that have had at least one overtime game -- the first time that's happened since the Stanley Cup Playoffs went to an all best-of-7 format in 1987. Wednesday's game was the 25th this spring that has gone past regulation -- and the 19th won by the home team.

22 -- Plus rating this spring for Boston forward Nathan Horton, who was plus-1 in Game 1. Horton, who left in the first overtime with an injury, leads all players this spring in plus-minus rating. No player has had a better plus-minus figure in a full playoff season since 1985, when Wayne Gretzky was plus-28, Paul Coffey was plus-26 and Jari Kurri went plus-24 as the Edmonton Oilers won the Cup.

23 -- Points this spring for Boston center David Krejci after he set up the Bruins' first two goals. Krejci leads all scorers this spring, already has more points than any player in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs and is on target to finish first in postseason scoring for the second time in the last three postseasons.

32 -- Years since a home team had won Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in overtime. Chicago's victory was the first since the New York Islanders beat the Vancouver Canucks in the series opener on a goal by Mike Bossy at 19:58 of OT.

70 -- Consecutive saves by Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask before Chicago's Brandon Saad scored 3:08 into the second period. Rask had not allowed a goal since Chris Kunitz of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored 8:51 into the second period in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final.

78 -- Years since the Stanley Cup Final started with back-to-back overtime games in Game 1. The Final opened with OT in Game 1 in 1934 and again in '35; this year's game followed a series-opening overtime victory on the road by the Los Angeles Kings against the New Jersey Devils.

132 -- Shots attempted by the Blackhawks. They scored on four, saw Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask stop 59 more, missed the net on 23 and had 40 blocked by the Bruins' defense. Boston attempted 85 shots, 54 of which were on net.

I'm so gkad I'm neither a Bruins nor Blackhawks fan. This gane was almost heart attack inducing.

Blackhawks were lucky to win this game though, because for the most part they only really played better in the 3rd period of regulation. Bruins were the better team 2/3. OT was a different story.

Both teams have brutal PP's too lol

This game was so intense! Greatest game I ever watched, and so happy the Hawks won. 3 more to go!

Two awesome games so far. The series is tied 1-1, but the series could easily be 2-0 in favor of one team or the other.

Bruins come ahead with a 2-0 win. Missed the game but in the SCF a 2-0 win really speaks for itself.

How many underdogs are ever as talented as the Bruins are?

Bruins were great last night. They just manhandled Chicago at the dot. 40 wins, compared to 16. Says a lot.

I'd say that Boston's the underdog here... But it would be coming from someone who thought the ECF would go to seven.

Going into game4 the teams had 11goals total...

Chicago wins 6-5 in OT to tie series at 2

game5 is saturday in chicago

Game 4 was a thriller! 11 total goals. Both goalies were off there games, but Blackhawks pull through to even the series 2-2.

The Chicago Blackhawks are your 2012/13 Stanley Cup Champions after scoring two goals in the final minute of Game 6.

Very tough loss for the Bruins to swallow, losing a do-or-die game in that fashion at home. They must feel terrible. Good to see the Bruins fans starting a let's go Bruins chant after the game to show their support. The B's still had one hell of a playoff run.

The Hawks did a fantastic job translating their regular season success into the playoffs and it really paid off. They did it. Again. Kane got the ConnSmythe award for playoff MVP though I feel Crawford definitely deserved it himself Kane was great in the playoffs.

Congratulations to the Blackhawks on a huge win tonight.

At the Bruits expense that was one of the most exciting finishes to a hockey game I've watched.

Funny how it took the Hawks 5 periods to beat the Bruins in Game 1 but only 17 seconds in Game 6.
