Could this veteran guard make sense for the Saints in free agency?

The New Orleans Saints must improve the interior of their offensive line this offseason, whether through free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft. If they turn to the free-agent market, Pittsburgh Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo could be an ideal fit in the Big Easy.

The 32-year-old has spent the past three seasons with the Steelers and just completed his 10th professional campaign. Seumalo was a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent his first seven seasons under the guidance of highly regarded offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who recently stepped away from coaching this offseason.

Seumalo finished the 2025 season allowing four sacks and 20 total pressures on 504 pass-blocking snaps, while committing zero penalties across 827 total snaps. He appeared in 14 games, missing three due to a recurring pectoral injury. His 74.8 overall grade ranked 12th among 81 qualifying guards, while his 78.5 pass-blocking grade ranked 4th and his 68.2 run-blocking grade ranked 26th at the position, according to Pro Football Focus.

The former Pro Bowler could command another multi-year deal in free agency despite his age, thanks to his recent production and versatility. He has experience at left guard, center and right guard, while being consistently serviceable in both pass protection and run blocking throughout his career.

Yaccarino: Which Saints free agents will leave, and which will re-sign?

Free agency is only days away, and for now, it seems many of the New Orleans Saints’ starters last season could be on their way out the door. Entering the free agency window, the Saints are set to lose 18 players who are out of contract.

Here is who I think the Saints bring back or let leave:

• Taysom Hill – Leave
  • The writing was on the wall this past season, and clearly, Hill’s time in the NFL is coming to an end.
• Demario Davis – Leave
  • This one is going to hurt, but it may be out of the Saints’ hands. Davis should be looking for a multi-year deal, and for the Saints, giving him one is a bit of a risk. If this were a 1-year deal, Davis would have been back yesterday, but teams will be very interested in the veteran and will probably give him the deal he wants.
• Cam Jordan – Leave
  • As I was writing this, news broke that Jordan will be testing free agency. If that never happened, I would have said that Cam was going to stay, but now, that has changed. On Wednesday, Jordan’s contract will void, and the Saints will be hit by the dead cap. If any deal does happen, it has to be before then, and it still can happen, but now it’s way less likely.
• Alontae Taylor – Leave
  • Let’s keep it going with players leaving. Alontae Taylor is going to have a massive market, and the Saints really should not bring him back. Taylor has been inconsistent with New Orleans, and although the potential is clearly there, a departure will be better for both sides.
• Foster Moreau – Return
  • For our first return, Foster Moreau coming back on a minimum deal makes sense. He is a depth TE that can come in when needed and has a good relationship with Tyler Shough. Also, I could see Moreau becoming a member of the staff at some point.
• Landon Young – Leave
  • Missed the entire 2025 season and is 28.
• Dillon Radunz – Leave
  • Radunz was a good depth piece, but with how the guard market is, some team may give him starting money.
• Luke Fortner – Leave
  • Very similar to Radunz, Fortner has a good chance of earning more than the Saints are willing to pay him.
• Jonathan Bullard – Return
  • Although the Saints’ defensive line depth was not strong, Bullard was still a bright spot and made some plays throughout the season.
• Ugo Amadi – Leave
  • Amadi seemed like a player who always felt like he was leaving, then came back, but this past season, he was less involved, and it may finally be time for him to go to another team (Bears?).
• Jack Stoll – Leave
  • Stoll was brought in for the right reasons, given his ties to the coaching staff, but he did not show enough in 2025 to warrant bringing him back.
• Michael Davis – Leave
  • a depth CB option that did not really contribute in 2025
• Jonah Williams – No clue
  • Jonah Williams is an interesting decision for the Saints. Although at times he had some impact, it was not enough to elevate the Saints’ edge depth issues. He could be cheap depth to bring back, but also, a rookie would be a better option.
• Terrell Burgess – Return
  • Burgess was another depth piece for the Saints, and although they already brought back Julian Blackmon, I think Burgess could be a nice special-teams player to keep through training camp at least.
• Dante Pettis – Leave
  • The fumble against the Titans and kick/punt return struggles are reasons the Saints would not bring back Pettis.
• Chris Rumph III – No clue
  • Similar to Williams, Rumph III had some impact, but also was not enough to feel good about the depth.
• John Ridgeway III – Leave
  • His role was reduced in 2025, dealt with injuries, and did not make a real impact when playing.

2026 NFL Mock Draft: Zierlein has Saints falling in Love

With just a little over one month remaining until the start of the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, mock season is in full swing with fans, analysts, coaches, and owners trying to narrow down the next additions to their respective teams. Another highly followed and respected NFL media member, Lance Zierlein, has released his next forecast following the completion of the recent scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Much like several like-minded mock drafters, Zierlein has tabbed the New Orleans Saints as the next home for Notre Dame Irish product HB Jeremiyah Love. The tailback has become a consensus top-ten pick within most mock drafts, and his performance at the NFL Combine probably all but solidified that case.

Love ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, finishing as the second-fastest runningback in the event. He also ran a 1.49 10-yard split. The combination of speed and strength, paired with his versatility, drew comparisons to current star NFL backs Saquon Barkley and Jahmyr Gibbs. Zierlein notes that the addition of Love “instantly reduces the workload from Tyler Shough’s shoulders as a three-down home run hitter.”

Picking just before the Saints at eighth overall, the Washington Commanders are predicted to select Miami Edge Rueben Bain Jr. After Love, Zierlein has Ohio State’s Caleb Downs going to the New York Jets at number nine, following their projected trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Could the Saints sign a familiar face in free agency?

After New Orleans worked their way to go under the $301.2 million cap with several contract restructures, it opened the door to add veteran talent on defense from free agency.

This off-season, the former Lions linebacker, Alex Anzalone, has entered free agency, while the Saints are seeking additional veteran help for the secondary.

Anzalone could be a tremendous asset to the defense, since the beloved Saints linebacker Demario Davis is set to hit free agency, he would become a key player to lead the defense.

Although it’s hard to replace the leadership Davis had, Anzalone is a nine-year veteran who spent his first four seasons with the Saints and has proven himself in Detroit, recording 395 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two interceptions in his tenure with the Lions.

He looks to be one of the best players New Orleans could utilize, along with another familiar name, some sources believe the Saints should consider, Trey Hendrickson, who also began his career in New Orleans with Anzalone.

Following his departure from Cincinnati, Hendrickson is a defensive player who appears in many conversations about picking up from free agency, but is his performance from the past few seasons worth the price?

Hendrickson spent his first four seasons with the Saints, similar to Alex Anzalone in the Sean Payton era, but his talent really shone through with the Bengals after he finished five seasons with them, racking up 115 solo tackles and 61 sacks.

However, Cincinnati had trouble keeping him due to his lingering core muscle injury and long contract negotiations, which led to his weak performance in the 2025-26 season and being placed on injured reserve in December after appearing in seven games — something that makes some teams hesitant to sign him.

Some other players that were considered for New Orleans to look back into who played for the Saints were Marshawn Lattimore and CJ Gardner-Johnson, but the chances of them coming back to New Orleans are lower than those of Trey Hendrickson.

The team looks to be reshaping in the best way possible, and the answer is yet to be determined. Is there a former Saints player in free agency you would like to see come back?

Saints to sign former Jaguars RB Travis Etienne

The New Orleans Saints have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars star RB Travis Etienne to a lucrative four-year, $52 million deal, bringing the Jennings, LA native closer to home—a priority for the veteran during free agency. In the process, New Orleans adds desperately needed juice to its backfield while continuing to build around franchise quarterback Tyler Shough.

In his final season with the Jags, the 27-year-old posted his third 1,000-yard rushing campaign in four years with the franchise. Since 2022, his 256 combined touchdowns and first downs rank eighth among running backs, according to Pro Football Focus.

Etienne’s 2025 season stats: 1,107 rushing yards (with a long of 71 and 28 runs of over 10 yards) on 260 attempts, along with seven rushing touchdowns. He also added 36 receptions on 52 targets for 292 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

The former Clemson Tiger and first-round pick adds the burst the Saints have lacked at the running back position in recent seasons and now gives Kellen Moore a dynamic offensive playmaker.

The New Orleans Saints just wrapped up an exciting day of free agency. Adding Travis Etienne, David Edwards, and Noah Fant boosts the Saints’ offense significantly.

While there’s still much more free agency to go, and New Orleans is far from done, it’s time for another mock draft.

1.8: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State​

Maybe controversial, but I didn’t pass on Jeremiyah Love for this pick. If Love is there, he’s the pick for me, even with the Etienne signing. Love’s stock has been on the rise, and he’s now a pick for the Tennessee Titans with the fourth overall pick.

But Love going early opens up Carnell Tate as an option at eighth overall. Tate is a Z receiver and fits the Saints’ offense perfectly. Adding the 6-foot-3 wideout allows New Orleans to put Chris Olave in the slot and keep Devaughn Vele at the X.

Tate has a great frame for an NFL receiver and is surprisingly fast. His 4.53 40-yard dash at the combine doesn’t showcase his game speed. He remains the top wideout in the NFL draft, and falls to the Saints at 8, continuing to boost the offense.

2.42 CB Keionte Scott, Miami​

Here is your Alontae Taylor replacement. Like Taylor, Miami cornerback Keionte Scott can rush the quarterback, play in the slot, and play in the box.

Scott possesses a rare tackling ability from the slot and will shine in Brandon Staley’s defense. There’s room to grow for the Miami cornerback, but he’s a great fit for the Saints and appears in my mock for the second time.

3.73 OL Parker Brailsford, Alabama​

While I would’ve liked to attack defense in this draft, there weren’t any defensive options that I liked left on the board that I could justify taking over Alabama center Parker Brailsford.

Brailsford wouldn’t initially play center for the Saints, but could be a potential Cesar Ruiz replacement if New Orleans goes in that direction. He could also be insurance at center if Erik McCoy continues to struggle to stay on the field.

Brailsford is undersized, but has the production and athleticism to be a desirable pick in the third round. With strong showings against SEC competition, Brailsford should have no problems developing into a strong NFL interior offensive lineman.

It has only been 2 days since the unofficial start of free agency and the New Orleans Saints have taken off running with the signings of RB Travis Etienne, OG David Edwards, P Ryan Wright and TE Noah Fant, re-signing of John Ridgeway III as well as restructuring several player’s contracts. Unfortunately, they will be saying goodbye to LB Demario Davis and CB Alontae Taylor, with the fate of several other veteran’s futures in New Orleans still TBD.

What Travis Etienne Jr. brings to the Saints

The New Orleans Saints signed running back Travis Etienne Jr. to a 4-year $52 million contract on Monday. Etienne comes to New Orleans after spending the first five years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Etienne was drafted in the first round and was again paired with college teammate Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville after setting nearly every career rushing record in the ACC at Clemson. He suffered a Lisfranc injury (ironically in the Superdome) in the 2021 preseason which caused him to miss his entire rookie season, but since then rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of the next four seasons in Jacksonville. During his career, the Jags went as Etienne went, as they posted winning records in each of the years he rushed for 1,000 yards and went 4-13 in the only year he did not.

Etienne is an explosive runner who hits the hole quickly and can make plays in space against defensive backs. He is a very good pass catcher as he has gone for over 250 yards receiving each year, but he is not as much of a dual threat as someone like Alvin Kamara was in his prime. He isn’t a liability in the pass game at all, but he is definitely a run-first kind of back as opposed to a guy who needs to catch five balls a game to have a real impact. Etienne is very good at hitting the hole when it is there, as he has a vast amount of experience stretching all the way back to his four year career as a starter at Clemson. He accelerates quickly and will get to the second level almost every time the offensive line opens a hole for him as he also has a great initial jump cut. Once he is in space he has the agility to easily avoid defensive backs, but doesn’t always have the power to break tackles or gain extra yards in a pile. That being said, he still usually gains the yards that are needed in short yardage situations due his great initial burst of speed and vision.

Despite the injury early in his career and the high amount of usage Etienne had in college and the NFL, he has remained relatively healthy over his career, as he missed just two games for the Jaguars after missing his whole rookie year. Another great thing about Etienne is that he does not turn the ball over, as he has just four fumbles in his four seasons playing with the Jags, three of which came during his first year in 2022.

Etienne brings a consistent fix to the Saints backfield that has suffered the last two years due to injuries to Alvin Kamara and the other running backs on the roster failing to replace Kamara’s production. Etienne can provide that production and then some, and also take some of the burden off Kamara’s shoulders which hopefully should keep him healthy down the stretch.

Etienne is the third leading rusher in Jaguars history, and is tied for the second most 1,000 yard seasons in team history after just four years in Duval. Now after helping the Jags return to the playoffs for the first time in five years the 27-year old returns to his home state of Louisiana to try and help the Saints get back to the postseason for the first time since 2020. The Saints were the 28th ranked rushing offense last year, but should instantly improve thanks to Etienne’s presence, as he has quietly been one of the better and most consistent backs in the NFL since he was drafted.

Saints trade P Kai Kroeger to Texans

After New Orleans recently signed former Minnesota Vikings punter and Tulane alum Ryan Wright to a lucrative four-year $14 million deal with $8 million guaranteed, the team has now traded former undrafted free agent punter Kai Kroeger to the Houston Texans, with the teams swapping 2028 sixth and seventh-round draft picks.

Now that the Saints have finally invested in special teams, this will mark the fourth consecutive season New Orleans is entering with a new punter. It also ends a three-year streak of undrafted free agent rookies, as the team has gone from Lou Hedley, Matthew Hayball and Kroeger over the past three seasons.

Punting was a major issue for the Saints in 2025. Kroeger’s 63.9 punting grade ranked 25th out of 32 qualifying punters, according to Pro Football Focus. On 56 punts, his 38.64-yard net average ranked 28th at the position, while his long of 61 yards also ranked 28th, and his 18 punts inside the 20-yard line ranked 29th.

For the Saints, getting any compensation for Kroeger is a win. They originally signed him as an undrafted free agent during training camp, and now they’ve ended up receiving a draft pick in return.

Miguez: How adding Travis Etienne will improve the Saints offense

The New Orleans Saints have had a good run of signing players from the Bayou State to return and play for their childhood team.

On Monday, Mickey Loomis made a similar move that they are hoping will pay off when they signed Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The deal has been reported to be for 4 years/$52 million, which is near market value for a top running back in the league.

Etienne, the Jennings native, has had quite the start to his young NFL career as he has eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in three of his first four seasons. In total, he has rushed for 3,798 and 25 touchdowns for an average of 4.2 yards per attempt.

So, what are the Saints adding to their offense?

Young, Dynamic Playmaker

Etienne has been known for his shifty ability out of the backfield, something Saints fans have come accustomed to with Alvin Kamara leading the charge since 2018. However, Kamara is over the age of 30 and most would argue past his prime, so New Orleans is looking for a youthful bout of energy in their run game. With this move, I think the Saints could easily hang on to AK if the money makes sense and play him as a gadget back/slot receiver while Etienne leads the backfield in terms of carries. Don’t forget, Devin Neal, Kendre Miller, and Audric Estime are also still in that room. Etienne is also a great receiving back in the backfield, as he’s racked up nearly 1500 yards in the passing game.

Great Leader

Etienne may be a young player still, but he’s very vocal in the way he handles his business. He’s never been in trouble while in the NFL, the Jaguars locker room had a ton of respect for him, and he’s also been well-respected throughout the league. It will be exciting to see how the leadership dynamic shifts in the locker room with Demario Davis and Alontae Taylor both on their way out and Cam Jordan’s departure could still be on the horizon.

Let’s welcome Travis Etienne back home to Louisiana as the Saints look to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
