Over the past weekend, the NFL world was given heartbreaking news when it was revealed that former Purdue Boilermaker and NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore had passed away at just 25 years old. It was reported that Moore died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but the details of his death are still under investigation.

Moore had a special collegiate career, recording nearly 2,000 receiving yards on 178 receptions, 248 rushing yards, and 17 total touchdowns. He was named a consensus All-American in his freshman year and won the Paul Hornung award before injuries would derail his next two seasons. Moore’s abilities on and off the field proved strong enough for the Arizona Cardinals to select him in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft.

He would spend three seasons in the league with Arizona before being dealt to the Atlanta Falcons as part of the Desmond Ridder trade. Moore would join the Minnesota Vikings in March of 2025 during the free agency period. He suffered back-to-back season-ending knee injuries in 24-25.

Unfortunately, Moore’s death is the most recent of a concerning history of young athletes taking their own lives due to injury, social issues, legal battles, mental health troubles, and so much more. After news of Moore’s passing spread on social media outlets, many family members, coaches, players, and fans extended condolences and left messages and stories in hopes of preventing a similar case.

Saints named finalist for 2025 Best Draft award

The New Orleans Saints have been tabbed as one of six finalists for Inside the League’s Best Draft award, which will be given out this Wednesday ahead of this year’s scouting combine in Indianapolis. The distinction, given out annually since 2018, is awarded to the organization with the best or most productive haul of rookies from the season prior’s draft class.

New Orleans was awarded the inaugural Best Draft award following their historic draft class of 2017 that included players such as Ryan Ramczyk, Marshon Lattimore, Alvin Kamara, Marcus Williams, and Trey Hendrickson. Lattimore and Kamara would go on to win the defensive and offensive rookie of the year awards, respectively.

Following a strong showing from this year’s group of draft picks, New Orleans is once more in contention for the award and will have a good chance to become the first team to win it multiple times. This year’s draft class, led by first-round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. and Pepsi Zero-Sugar Rookie of the Year Tyler Shough, gave the Saints a foundational base to initiate a true reset. Vernon Broughton, Jonas Sanker, Danny Stutsman, Quincy Riley, Devin Neal, Moliki Matavao, and Fadil Diggs round out the rest of the 25’ class for the Saints.

The other finalists named for this year’s award are the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and New England Patriots. The Los Angeles Rams came away with the honor last season.

Even though we may not agree with every selection individually or have strong performances year in and year out, one thing we can all still see is that Mickey Loomis and Jeff Ireland know how to consistently put together dominant classes.

Should the Saints pursue Wyatt Teller in free agency?

The veteran guard could provide much-needed help along the interior of the offensive line.

One of the New Orleans Saints’ biggest weaknesses last season was the interior of the offensive line, particularly at guard.

With Wyatt Teller announcing on social media that his time with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, the two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection could be exactly what the team needs in free agency.

Wyatt Teller bids farewell to Cleveland and Browns fans pic.twitter.com/sEXWDTWJip

— ESPN Cleveland (@ESPNCleveland) February 18, 2026

Teller, 31, is one of five starting offensive linemen for the Browns entering free agency this offseason. The former fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills spent the past seven seasons in Cleveland but will be looking for a new home in 2026.

This past season, Teller appeared in 13 games for the Browns after dealing with ankle and calf injuries—his lowest game total since the 2020 campaign. He allowed three sacks and 24 total pressures on 488 pass-blocking snaps while posting a career-low 53.1 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. However, Teller remains known for his run-blocking ability, and with New Orleans’ struggling rushing attack in 2025, he could be an ideal fit.

Teller would be an upgrade over the Saints’ current options at guard, and he could potentially be signed to a team-friendly, short-term deal. Cesar Ruiz has struggled with injuries and regressed following a breakout season, making him a likely trade candidate to give both player and team a fresh start. Meanwhile, Dillon Radunz dealt with discipline issues, committing eight penalties last season.

With the interior of the offensive line still a priority for New Orleans, should the Saints pursue Wyatt Teller in free agency?

Saints get an offensive weapon in Kiper’s newest mock draft

gettyimages-2246552034.jpg

As college players prepare to stand out during the NFL Combine, the media around the Saints are curious who will be picked in the first round.

Many predictions so far have indicated the player picked would most likely be Jeremiyah Love, who would be useful on the ground up the middle since he’s hard to tackle with his height, size and acceleration.

However, it seems opinions have shifted towards drafting a wide receiver in the first round and ESPN analyst Mel Kiper changed his mock draft to suggest the wide receiver from USC, Makai Lemon, would be a better fit in the long run over Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.

In Kiper’s latest Mock-up, he changed his mind to Lemon since he could be a serious deep threat against defenses for Tyler Shough to use in long-drive situations over Tyson’s impactful red-zone presence.

Lemon had an average of 14.6 yards per reception during the 2025 season, with a total of 79 receptions, 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Whether the Saints draft him or not, it’s a safer pick than drafting Tyson, who will miss the combine workouts due to a lingering hamstring injury that pushed him back from having a breakout season in 2025.

The news isn’t shocking for him wanting to focus on recovery, but one big takeaway is that the combine isn’t just to evaluate skill but to determine a player’s durability.

After his injury last season, Jordyn Tyson has been cautious not to make the situation worse and missed three games, finishing the season with 61 receptions for 711 yards, averaging 11.7 yards per catch and had eight touchdowns in 2025.

Although his talent is impressive, his limitations are the main factor. It’s not certain it will dampen his career, but it’s a bullet the Saints need to dodge since hamstrings are known to linger, so it’s something to keep in mind for any team.

Saints offensive lineman Will Clapp announces retirement

imagn-15032328.jpg

After signing back with the New Orleans Saints last offseason, center Will Clapp was set to be a great depth option, especially with Erik McCoy’s recent injury streak. Sadly, in preseason, Clapp suffered a season-ending foot injury. Although this did not affect the season, especially with the addition of Luke Fortner, Clapp was depth the Saints could have still used. Now, Clapp was set to become a free agent, but instead, the former LSU Tiger has decided to retire.

Will Clapp announces he is retiring from the NFL. pic.twitter.com/wGldPsLrb9

— Nick Underhill (@nick_underhill) February 26, 2026

Clapp played seven years in the NFL. He started his career with the Saints in 2018, then left for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. In 2024, after two years, Clapp went to the Buffalo Bills, and after one season, he returned to New Orleans.

While injured, Clapp slowly became a valued member of the sideline, almost acting as an unofficial coach.

With the last month’s departure of Jahri Evans to the Steelers, who served as an assistant coach with the Saints the past 3 seasons, could we see Clapp return to the Saints in a more official capacity?

Should the Saints bring back Ugo Amadi?

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have a decision to make regarding defensive back Ugo Amadi, an impending unrestricted free agent who has been with the team for the past three seasons.

New Orleans Saints v Los Angeles Rams

The 28-year-old played just one defensive snap and 96 special teams snaps in 2025, despite signing a one-year deal with New Orleans in the offseason. Amadi recorded 65 total tackles (52 solo), seven passes broken up, four tackles for loss and two sacks in 2024, along with 12 total tackles (six solo) and two passes deflected in 2023.

At five-foot-nine, 201 pounds, Amadi has served primarily as a depth piece for the Saints. His versatility—able to play the star role, outside corner, safety, and contribute on special teams—has helped him remain on the roster. However, with his reduced role this past season, it’s unclear where he fits in the current lineup.

Bringing him back for training camp or even adding him to the practice squad after roster cutdowns would make sense, but beyond that, there doesn’t appear to be a long-term future for Amadi in New Orleans.

So, the question remains—should the Saints re-sign Ugo Amadi?

Which player are you most interested in watching at the NFL scouting combine? (If other comment below)

— Canal St. Chronicles (@SaintsCSC) February 25, 2026

With 65.5% of the votes, we had a clear winner in Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. The New Orleans Saints have a big need at running back, with Alvin Kamara turning 31 in July and suffering injuries each of the last two years, and none of the other Saints running backs have shown much in relief of Kamara the last two years. Love has been one of the best running backs in college football over the last two years, rushing for a total of 2,497 yards and 35 touchdowns since 2024. He is just 20 years old and has carried the ball 433 times in his three years at Notre Dame (for comparison Mark Ingram had 572 carries in college, Saquon Barkley had 671, and Bijan Robinson had 539).

Love would be a huge boost to the offense and a big help to quarterback Tyler Shough as he enters his second season. The Saints ranked 28th in the NFL in rushing last year, so if Love can produce like Robinson or Barkley the Saints may find themselves with an above average offense next year to go with their defense which ranked 9th in the NFL last year.

All eyes will be on Love when he does his on-field workouts at the combine as he is by far the most highly touted running back prospect. If the Saints were to draft him at #8 they could be set up to make a run at the playoffs in a weak NFC South.

Saints held a formal interview with Oklahoma’s pass-rusher R Mason Thomas at Combine

This week, the New Orleans Saints held a formal interview with Oklahoma’s pass rusher R Mason Thomas. For a team with a clear need to rejuvenate its aging pass rush, the meeting is more than just due diligence; it’s a potential signal of a philosophical shift in the Big Easy.

At 6’2″ and 250 pounds, Thomas is the definition of an “outlier.” In a league that prizes long arms and heavy frames, he is frequently slapped with the “undersized” label. But at the Combine podium, Thomas offered a masterclass in self-awareness, citing the fundamental law of motion to explain his game.

“I tell [teams] the force equation: mass times acceleration equals force. I’m not a 280-pound guy, I’m a 250 guy, but all I need to do is generate more speed to generate more force.”

By formally interviewing Thomas, one of only 45 private slots available to them, the Saints are acknowledging that the “prototypical” mold might not be the only way to get to the quarterback.

The timing of this interest couldn’t be more poignant. The Saints are facing a transition period:

  • The Legend: Cam Jordan is entering the twilight of a Hall of Fame career.
  • The Bridge: Chase Young has provided a spark, but the depth behind him remains a question mark.
  • The Need: New Orleans finished the 2025 season needing more consistent “home run” hitters on third down.

Thomas, 21, emphasized how much he would take away from playing alongside Jordan (potentially) and Young if he were drafted to New Orleans.

“It’d be crazy,” Thomas said with a smile. “I’ll probably bug them so much. Cam Jordan… he has a lot of information.”

The Saints have a history of being bold and sometimes stubborn with their defensive line evaluations. If they pull the trigger on R Mason Thomas in April, it will be a bet on modernity over tradition.

Besson’s mock draft 2.0: a pair of Miami defenders

gettyimages-2254867517.jpg

GLENDALE, AZ - JANUARY 08: DL Rueben Bain Jr. #4 of the Miami Hurricanes looks on during the Miami Hurricanes versus Ole Miss Rebels College Football Playoff Semifinal at the VRBO Fiesta Bowl on January 8, 2026 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. A new week means a new Saints three-round mock draft. In my last mock, I went offense-heavy. I mean, anytime Jeremiyah Love is available at eighth overall I say take him. But for the sake of variety, I have Love going early in the draft, leaving an opening for a big-name defender.

1.8: LB Reuben Bain, Miami

gettyimages-2257145817.jpg

Rueben Bain Jr. has been the talk of the draft since the college football season started. He absolutely dominates offensive linemen and has all the tools to make an immediate impact. While there are some whispers (very quiet whispers) about concerns of his length, Bain dominated in college against good talent.

At 6-foot-3, Bain has the power of a defensive tackle but the ability to rush the passer like a defensive end. Bain, at the very least, has a high floor in the NFL. His play strength is too good to overlook, and if you want to continue to build on your defense, and Bain is there, you take him.

2.42 CB Keionte Scott, Miami

gettyimages-2256740848.jpg

Back-to-back Miami defenders. That defense made it to a National Championship for a reason. Keionte Scott is your insurance if Alontae Taylor were to leave in free agency. Scott is physical like a linebacker, but the coverage of an elite defensive back. But most of all, he brings a “dawg” mentality and leadership to whichever team he joins.

While only 6-foot, 195 lbs., Scott can fight off bigger blockers and sniff out running plays early. In 2025, the Miami defensive back recorded 13 tackles for loss at cornerback, 13! Scott is a steal of a second-round pick and an immediate starter.

3.73 WR Ted Hurst, Georgia State

gettyimages-2169481571.jpg

Alright, we’ll give Miami a break. Our next selection is finally addressing the wide receiver room. While I’d like the receiver to be addressed earlier, that doesn’t take away from the talent of Ted Hurst. At 6-foot-3, the Georgia State wide receiver has the size of an ideal NFL wideout, but combines it with rare speed that defensive backs can’t match.

Hurst recorded 1,004 receiving yards in 2025, but we must address the elephant in the room. His best games came against lower competition, and he was nowhere to be seen in their Week 1 loss to Ole Miss. But his talent is undeniable. He has the size and speed of an NFL wideout. There are knocks against his abilities to bring in tough catches, but they said the same thing about Brian Thomas Jr, and he’s doing pretty well for himself.

Kellen Moore talks Tyler Shough from the NFL Combine

gettyimages-2248450152.jpg

The story of the season for the New Orleans Saints was rookie quarterback Tyler Shough’s emergence as the starting quarterback throughout the latter half of the year.

Excitement abounds in the Crescent City about the potential long-term head coach-quarterback partnership that the fanbase has long sought after since the departures of Drew Brees and Sean Payton, and which it may have found in Kellen Moore and Shough.

Moore, who drafted Shough a year ago in the second round of his first draft as Saints head coach, was asked by Rich Eisen of NFL Network recently about what stood out about the 26-year-old as the team went through the pre-draft process.

“His willingness to do everything through this whole process,” said Moore from the NFL Combine. “He did everything at the combine, we had coaches go work him out, he came down to New Orleans… through the whole process, we just kept having these interactions with him, and he’s real, he’s authentic, a phenomenal person, phenomenal player.”

The head coach has been full of praise for Shough, who started the final nine games of the campaign for the black and gold.

The rookie posted a 5-4 record, including a 4-0 month of December with multiple 300-yard games while working with a depleted roster.

Reuniting Shough and Bell: A Draft Gamble Worth Taking?

gettyimages-2243568590.jpg

Over the weekend, some interest has been shown in drafting the wide receiver from Louisville, Chris Bell, a former teammate of Tyler Shough. The connection between Shough and Bell could be electric, but the dilemma is whether he is worth an early draft pick.

Right now, Bell is recovering from a torn ACL, which has prevented him from participating in the NFL Combine. However, during an interview with the press, Bell explained rehab has been going well and stated that he will be able to start running next.

He is projected to be in healthy condition for training camp and said he’s been in contact with Shough through the offseason, telling reporters he hopes they will play together once again.

As he looks to have another chance to play on the field, Bell might go under the radar during draft night based on the chance of teams wanting to put trust in an injured player.

If his explosiveness is the same as it was in college after his recovery, Bell could be a hidden gem the Saints are looking for in having weapons for Shough’s disposal.

Before his injury, Bell’s most impressive performance last season with the Cardinals was during the upset against Miami after he finished the game on the road with nine receptions, 136 yards and two touchdowns.

He finished his final year at Louisville with 72 receptions, right under a thousand-yard season with 917 receiving yards and six touchdowns, while averaging 12 yards a catch.

Before he suffered his injury versus SMU, the 2025 season was his best performance throughout his college career. During Tyler Shough’s final season at Louisville, Chris Bell had his second-best performance with 43 receptions for 717 receiving yards, averaging 17.1 yards per catch and 4 touchdowns.

Bell draft stock might be low, but it’s safe to say he would be a good addition in the second or third round based on his college statistics and connection with Shough.
