Fleur-de-Links, January 23: Two potential offseason moves for the Saints

Should the Saints bring back Luke Fortner?

The Saints already made a great move last year to trade for Fortner, so why not make another one?

The former Saints in contention to win Super Bowl 60

gettyimages-2256841961.jpg

We’re in the midst of an exciting and compelling NFL playoffs, with entertaining games, highlight plays and nail-biting finishes across both conferences. On Sunday, four teams play for a ticket to Super Bowl LX on February 8th. Here’s a look at the two highest-profile names involved in the conference championship games with immensely strong links to the New Orleans Saints.

Denver Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton

gettyimages-2256797379.jpg

The most successful and longest tenured coach in Saints history is two games away from becoming the first ever NFL head coach to deliver a Super Bowl to two different NFL franchises. But his task got a lot tougher in the aftermath of their divisional triumph over the Bills, with the news that quarterback Bo Nix’s season was over after he suffered an ankle injury late in the contest.

Payton has since insisted on his belief in backup Jarrett Stidham, who is now presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. But the Broncos are nonetheless home underdogs against the Patriots. Should the head coach find a way to get Denver to the Super Bowl, nevermind should they win it, few could dispute the value of his coaching ability toward achieving such an outcome.

Payton’s roster also carries a number of former Saints, including kicker Wil Lutz, whose playoff pedigree may be called upon in a big moment this weekend.

Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed

imagn-27848847.jpg

Rashid Shaheed’s 95-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff of Seattle’s dominant win over San Francisco in the divisional round no doubt brought mixed emotions to many among the Who Dat Nation, as reminiscence over his days in the black and gold became mixed with excitement for the young receiver as he excels in new colors.

The Seahawks, like Payton and the Broncos, are the one-seed in their respective conference. They’ll host the Los Angeles Rams, coming off their thrilling overtime victory over the Bears a week ago.

Shaheed’s touchdown kick-started an authoritative display from Seattle, who will be hoping for a repeat performance against LA. What’s more, calling the plays for the Seahawks is former Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

There’s every chance that Super Bowl 60 will contain at least one prominent figure closely linked with the Saints. What are you looking out for this weekend? Are you happy to see the players and coaches who are thriving with their new teams? Let us know in the comments!

2025 Saints player review: QB Tyler Shough

gettyimages-2253852393.jpg

When the 2025 NFL season started, there was a real chance this would never be made. An extremely close QB battle between Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough lasted most of the preseason, and with it being so close, the Saints went with Rattler. At the time, the decision made sense, but it did not quell Saints fans’ criticism over “wasting” the 40th overall pick on a 25-year-old rookie QB who may not even get on the field.

As we know now, that’s not what happened.

Scrutiny transforms into praise

Once Shough was brought in to take over from Rattler, who was on a string of disappointing performances, things started to change. Shough brought a different playstyle to the offense that was needed, and finally, even with some coaching woes at the time from HC Kellen Moore, Shough was able to push the ball down the field. Flash forward two weeks after Shough was brought in for Rattler, the rookie had his breakout performance.

Against the Carolina Panthers, Shough finished 282 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, one being a beautiful pass to WR Chris Olave. Most importantly, looking past the stats, the rookie looked comfortable, calm, and confident.

After this game, Shough never looked back. The Saints lost in Weeks 12 and 13 (Week 11 was the bye week) to the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins, but those games came down to either coaching or special teams. Shough still played well in those losses, but after that, the Saints went on their 5-game win streak.

The coaching was better, the defense was improving every snap, and Shough started to put the offense on his back. Injuries were plaguing the Saints’ offense, but unlike last season, when that was an excuse for losing, Shough kept rising over every obstacle. The 2025/26 season ended with a loss, which is never how a team wants to enter the offseason. Still, the Saints have all the momentum in the world to build upon, and that can be attributed to Shough’s great rookie year.

Tyler Shough’s final statline as starting QB

  • 9 games as the starter
  • 2,256 passing yards
  • 10 passing touchdowns
  • 5 interceptions
  • 186 rushing yards
  • 3 rushing touchdowns
  • 3 fumbles

Saints QB Tyler Shough named Grand Marshal of the Krewe of Pygmalion

gettyimages-2254163363.jpg

New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is having the rookie ride of his life literally, as he has been named the Grand Marshal for the Krewe of Pygmalion parade.

The Uptown parade, who is celebrating their 25th year, will roll on Saturday, February 7th beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Magazine Street, and ten wrap up at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with “Pygmalion Fest” featuring by global superstar DJ and producer Marshmello. This year’s theme, “The Princess and the Pyg,” reimagines the magic of Mardi Gras through a modern fairytale lens, where timeless tradition meets royal revelry and every guest steps into a story of grandeur, glamour, and celebration.

Shough joins former Saints QB Drew Brees, who served as Mardi Gras royalty in 2007 as the Grand Marshal of Bacchus. Brees was also the King of Bacchus in 2010.

This is just another honor for the Saints 2025 2nd round draft pick who finished the season passing for 2,384 yards and 11 touchdowns through 9 starts. As a result of his incredible on-the-field performance, Shough was selected to the PFWA All-Rookie team and is a finalist for the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and the fan-voted NFL Rookie of the Year.

Will the Saints be chosen for Hard Knocks this year?

gettyimages-2254175292.jpg

Every offseason, one thing scares every team in the league. No, it’s not losing your best player to injury or an important player not wanting to return in free agency; it’s Hard Knocks. This year, 16 teams are eligible for the show, and the New Orleans Saints are among them.

The sixteen teams that are eligible for Hard Knocks in August 2026 pic.twitter.com/25yIFkCimT

— NFL Nerd (@NerdingonNFL) January 26, 2026

Teams dread this outcome because it’s a distraction. No franchise or staff wants their “personal space” (AKA anything that happens behind closed doors) exposed to other teams. Look at what happened to the New York Giants in the 2024 offseason. This was the offseason that RB Saquon Barkley left, and that entire process was recorded. Also, GM Joe Schoen was heavily scrutinized after the episodes were released. Running that risk is scary for teams.

Looking at the list, the Kansas City Chiefs are the ones that make the most sense for the NFL to capitalize on, so the Saints may escape Hard Knocks once again.

Saints present $484K in proceeds from 50/50 Raffle to 2025 beneficiaries

On Friday, January 23, 2026, New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson presented several Louisiana charitable organizations with their portion of the team’s 50/50 raffle sales that were held during their 2025 home games.

This season’s 50/50 Raffle generated a total of $972,575 in support of community initiatives, which included a $25,000 contribution from Rouses Markets to Feeding Louisiana and $484,000 to help fund several nonprofit organizations across the state.

The Saints 50/50 Raffle has helped to provide financial support to charitable organizations throughout the region for over a decade. Each home game puts a spotlight a different beneficiary, with a portion of raffle proceeds given directly to the organization to help fund their cause.

This year’s beneficiaries included: Preseason Week 2 – LHSAA, Preseason Week 3 – Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR), Week 1 – Feeding Louisiana Chapters sponsored by Rouses Markets, Week 2 – NAMI Louisiana Chapters, Week 5 – Ochsner Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, Week 6: Louisiana Children’s Museum, Week 8 – NextOp, Week 12 – Saints My Cause My Cleats, Week 15 – Goodwill of Southeastern Louisiana and Week 16 – The Arc of Louisiana

Saints owner Mrs. Gayle Benson said, “Our fans once again showed remarkable generosity throughout this year’s 50/50 Raffle, and we are sincerely thankful for everyone who took part. The organizations we support are doing meaningful, transformative work across our state, and it is an honor to partner with them. These contributions will uplift families and strengthen communities throughout Louisiana, which is at the heart of everything we strive to do.

The 2025 50/50 raffle had an average regular‑season jackpot of $105,231.25 and surpassed one million numbers sold with 9 winners from Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi and Texas.

One-year out: Did the Saints overpay for Juwan Johnson?

gettyimages-2254644269.jpg

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson wrapped up his first season under a 3-year, $30.75 million contract. The sixth-year tight end finished the season as the Saints’ second-leading receiver with 77 receptions for 889 yards and 3 touchdowns.

gettyimages-2245869972.jpg

Head coach Kellen Moore was eager to bring Johnson back for 2025, holding a meeting with the tight end that went on for hours, with Moore selling Johnson his vision for him in the offense. New Orleans’ decision to bring Johnson back on a hefty contract was quite a surprise. While the former undrafted free agent has been serviceable for the Saints since entering the league, a lack of consistency and a failure to breakout made his significant contract turn heads. However, Johnson’s contract made him the 13th highest-paid tight end in the league, and he exceeded his contract and finished as TE3.

Johnson’s breakout season didn’t come without its flaws. Despite a 75.49 catch percentage, which is the second-best among the top-10 tight ends in receiving yards, Johnson had a problem with drops. From turning his head too early before making the reception to simple drops, mistakes plagued the wide receiver-turned-tight end throughout the season. Johnson also fumbled twice in 2025.

Johnson often made up for his mistakes. It felt as if when he made a mistake, Johnson would respond with an impressive reception or big play.

WHAT A CATCH BY JUWAN JOHNSON pic.twitter.com/7qvv9OQ1TP

— Saints Film Room (@SaintsFilmRoom) January 4, 2026

Despite a solid first three weeks of the season, Johnson’s best play came when rookie quarterback Tyler Shough took over at quarterback. Shough relied on his former college teammate as a safety net and looked for him whenever a play broke down. Johnson averaged 57.8 yards per game with Shough under center compared to just 46 yards per game with Spencer Rattler at quarterback.

Johnson looks to be a crucial part of Shough’s development down the line, and he performed more than his contract asked of him. With a full offseason to work with Kellen Moore and Shough, Juwan Johnson could be heading towards a better season in 2026, and with improvements on his mistakes from the season, the Saints could have gotten a steal on Johnson’s annual $10 million contract.

Will Taysom Hill return to the Saints?

imagn-27864008.jpg

It was arguably the most emotional press conference of Taysom Hill’s nine-year Saints tenure when he took to the podium following the final home game of the season in December.

The 35-year-old Swiss army knife, who has had one of the more unique and fascinating careers in the history of the NFL, showed all the signs of a player who’d just played his final game in New Orleans.

But Hill did note on that day that he was still uncertain what the future would hold. And as of today, the former undrafted quarterback out of BYU is yet to make an official decision on what’s next; whether it’s retirement, a contract extension with the black and gold, or even a new team is still unknown.

Taysom Hill addresses the media post game pic.twitter.com/kdZBNDpVWi

— Tina Howell (@TinaM_Howell) December 21, 2025

Hill, the only player in the Super Bowl era with 1,000 passing, receiving, and rushing yards, played 13 times for the Saints in 2025. He posted a season-high 116 total yards with a passing touchdown in the aforementioned game against the Jets.

While Hill’s level of involvement in the offense isn’t what it once was, he’s as respected a figure as any inside the Saints locker room. And he’s yet to officially rule out a return to the team.

Would you resign Taysom Hill? Do you think he’ll decide to hang them up this summer or even go elsewhere in the NFL? Let us know in the comments!

Saints QB Tyler Shough draws high praise from Panthers legend

gettyimages-2246187761.jpg

When the New Orleans Saints selected Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick, the doubters were loud. Many viewed the move as a reach with prospects like Shedeur Sanders and Jalen Milroe still on the board. But the 26-year-old rookie never let the noise get to him.

Once he was given the reins as the starter, Shough quickly flipped the narrative and put the football world on notice, emerging as one of the league’s most exciting young signal callers. Now an AP Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist, Shough continues to turn heads—most recently earning high praise from former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, who led the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance during the 2003 NFL season.

Delhomme joined Arizona Cardinals insider Kyle Odegard for an exclusive interview with CasinoBeats, and here’s what he had to say about Shough’s rookie campaign.

gettyimages-2906320.jpg

After watching Shough play live twice, Delhomme said he was “very impressed” with the rookie and called the selection a “brilliant move” by head coach Kellen Moore and the Saints front office. He added that Shough “probably could have started” from the jump, but understood why Moore and the staff chose to let him develop with the scout team to open the season.

Delhomme said the Saints handled Shough’s rookie season perfectly:

He played the preseason, and then let him sit and watch. Let him digest the season and how things go. Preseason is one thing. The regular season is very different. Preseason, you’re installing a playbook. So each day you’re building, building, building. Then once the season starts, it’s game-plan week. It’s game-plan specific. What is Kellen Moore like during the course of the season? And I think for a young kid to truly understand, this is not college, where you have some penciled-in wins along the way. That just doesn’t exist in the NFL. And so I thought they were brilliant in the way they handled him. They let him sit.

When asked what he saw from Shough against the Panthers and down the stretch of the season, this is what Delhomme had to say:

I thought the kid played well. He played well in Charlotte against us. We had him for a couple of sacks. He broke through those sacks and stepped up in the pocket, made big plays to Juwan Johnson. And then to Chris Olave. They got a win. And you saw them give him more and more as the season went on. Very big. Big kid, strong kid, strong arm. Ball comes out of his hand... Give them credit. I liked what I saw from them, and I think everyone in New Orleans is pretty excited. It’s funny, he’s going into year two, and he’s two years older than Bryce Young, who’s going into year four.”

Lastly, Delhomme credits some of Shough’s early maturity not only to his age and experience, but also to his college head coach, Jeff Brohm, a former NFL quarterback. Delhomme believes Shough’s development is far from finished and thinks the Who Dat Nation has every reason to be excited about the future:

So big, strong, mature kid, coached very well in college. Especially his last year, playing for Jeff Brohm at Louisville. I love Jeff. Jeff’s maybe a little older than me, played in the NFL, but they develop quarterbacks. Footwork-wise. And so there’s a pretty good understanding when those kids get to the league playing for him. So, yeah, I think the ceiling’s pretty darn high for Shough. And I know people in New Orleans are pretty excited about it.”

Georgia Tech OG Keylan Rutledge meets with the Saints at Senior Bowl

gettyimages-2253354915.jpg

The Senior Bowl is here, and as many of you know, the New Orleans Saints love the prospects from this event. Just last year, the Saints selected 5 out of their 9 rookies from the Senior Bowl. I would expect this to continue, and it seems the team has set their sights on one offensive line prospect.

According to NOF’s Adam Guttuso, the Saints have met with Georgia Tech OG Kelyan Rutledge at the Senior Bowl, and the player said it was a good meeting.

Rutledge says he had a good meeting with the #Saints and would love to stay in the south. https://t.co/iBOru4gRvk

— Adam Guttuso (@adam_guttuso) January 28, 2026

Throughout the draft season, the Saints will have meetings with many prospects, but in this case, there’s a good chance we look back on this one after draft season. Rutledge is a very powerful interior offensive lineman who has a nasty streak. He is

If the Saints do select Rutledge, he would be a potential starter at RG right away.

2025 Saints player review: RB Alvin Kamara

gettyimages-2241050043.jpg

Prior to the start of the NFL’s regular season, the New Orleans Saints’ starting running back, Alvin Kamara, turned 30 years old, a seemingly pivotal age at which the futures of ballcarriers begin to come into question. Kamara just wrapped his ninth year in the league, all in the Crescent City. The good news? The former Tennessee Volunteer seemed as nimble as ever when he was on the field. Now, the bad? Some injuries led to the tailback playing in a career low 11 games in 2025, missing the team’s final six contests. Kamara was also limited to career-worsts in yards across the board and managed just a single touchdown in the first year under new head coach Kellen Moore, which begs the question: Should the Saints be worried about the state of their run game?

Historically, there have been a bevy of top-talent halfbacks in the NFL that seemingly just lost their way after making “the big 3-0.” Players like Marshall Faulk, Earl Campbell, Shaun Alexander, etc., all in their own ways made an impact on the league in their early playing days, but fell off drastically, some less than a decade into their careers.

Luckily, for Kamara and New Orleans, playing in today’s game means better access to treatment options, faster injury diagnosis, and specialized training regimes to keep players at the top of their game for longer periods of time. Since entering the league in 2017 as a third-round pick, Alvin has notoriously been one of the most elusive backs in football. His ability to absorb contact and just bounce off of defenders, changing direction, just changes the way his body endures the constant grind of playing within the numbers.

Although he never had a 1,000-yard season either rushing or receiving to this point in his career, Kamara had managed to eclipse 1,000+ scrimmage yards in his first eight seasons before that streak was unfortunately snapped this year. The starter actually went over 100+ scrimmage yards in a game just twice this season, once in week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers and again in week 10 versus the Carolina Panthers.

As stats decrease and many experts and analysts continue to link Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love to New Orleans in mock drafts, is there a real worry that Kamara’s days in the Big Easy could be numbered, or did he just have a fluke season? Personally, there should be absolutely no doubt that Kamara cannot have a bounce-back year with a full offseason under Moore. Add a clean bill of health to an improved offensive line, and I think you have a winning recipe for both the player and fans.

Final 2025 statline:

  • 11 games played
  • 131 carries
  • 471 rushing yards
  • 33 receptions
  • 186 receiving yards
  • 1 touchdown
  • 2 fumbles

Saints’ Loomis speaks with media ahead of 2026 Senior Bowl

The 2026 Senior Bowl is set to kick off on Saturday, January 31, from Hancock Whitney Stadium, home of the South Alabama Jaguars. Here, some of the top talents in the upcoming NFL Draft have an opportunity to meet and mingle with a group of scouts, coaches, staff members, and executives hoping to see skill sets on display as they seek the right players to fill voids on their respective rosters.

As for the New Orleans Saints, they will get an up-close, in-depth view of the invited players, with a total of seven members of the organization in a coaching capacity. In addition to those staffers, a number of New Orleans’ management team are in Mobile for the event, keeping a close watch on players and meeting with local media, not limited to but including General Manager Mickey Loomis. Here is a summary of what he discussed with reporters:

Loomis was asked about the advantages of the team having a full offseason with everyone in the building while ramping up processes, starting with those at the game.

Yeah. Well, look, it you know, the league asked you to submit names of guys that you know would like to you know, coach, in these all-star games, and you know, we submitted a list. You expect one or two to get picked and we had nine picked total between uh the Senior Bowl and and um and the East West game. And it is a good advantage for us because we get some, you know, we get alot of good information on the players that are here that they coach and it’s a good experience for our staff and and good for our personnel department.

Then, the GM was asked his opinion on last year’s draft class and their early success, but Loomis made sure to give a seemingly modest response.

Well, look, that’s a credit to Jeff Ireland and our college scouting staff, all of our personnel department. Look, it’s not our first rodeo. We’ve had plenty of good drafts over the years and um hopefully this last year was a good one. It was a good first year, but let’s wait a few more years before we judge that.

One player participating in this year’s Senior Bowl, LSU product and son of current Saints’ offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, puts New Orleans in a situation Mickey could not recall happening before in his time with the team.

Um but look, you know, Garrett’s a really good player and thought of really well and obviously we think a lot of Doug, so um yeah, that’ll be interesting. I don’t think we’ve ever had that circumstance before in my 40 years in the league. I don’t recall where we’ve ever had a coach with a player in the draft. Maybe we have, but I can’t remember it… So, um, but again, that’s unique. It’s going to be a little different than, uh, we’ve had to deal with before.

The media asked Loomis if there were any specific positional needs that the team would be pinpointing players from the Senior Bowl to potentially fill.

We haven’t finished that process yet and actually all the coaches being here have kind of delayed that process for us um by a week or so. So I can’t really answer that. Not that I would anyway.

Loomis was questioned about his thoughts on the upcoming draft class.

Yeah, look, I think that there’s a really talented group here, just like last year. I think the last couple years in particular, uh, it feels like I don’t know this for a fact, but it feels like, we’re getting a lot more really good players and you know, that’s a good thing. Just it’s more information for us and, you know, we get to do interviews and get to talk to these guys and and, it’s been a really good thing.

Eventually, members at the interview began to hit Loomis with questions regarding the current roster, in particular, linebacker Demario Davis and gadget player Taysom Hill.

Um, yeah, would love Demario, you know, wanting to be back and hope he’s back, but, yeah, we’ll get to that… you know, I’ve given him [Hill] some space, so we’ll touch base with him soon. But, um, you know it’s hard to have these conversations right after the end of the season. You know, you want that emotion to go out of it and give guys some time and space and not feel like they’re pressured to make decisions. Um, and we’ve got time.

Lastly, Loomis responded to those with opinions that the Saints may be lacking explosiveness or a certain “juice.” The GM touched on how to progress with the state of New Orleans football.

Yeah, I just, you know, I think we got a young quarterback and and you want to have a good defense. You want to have great protection up front. Um and you want to, you know, give him playmakers to get the ball to. I mean that you’d want to do that for any quarterback. So, yeah, I don’t think that. Yes, that’s the goal. Absolutely is a goal, but it’s a goal for every team with every quarterback.

If you want to hear Loomis’ full comments and see more content following those in attendance at the 2026 Senior Bowl, you can watch that video here.

Jahri Evans has officially accepted an offer to become the new assistant offensive line coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the same role he filled for the New Orleans Saints under Kellen Moore in 2025. Evans began his coaching career in 2022 with New Orleans as a training camp intern before being brought on full-time a year later.

The Pennsylvania native will now return home with an opportunity to rejuvenate the Steelers’ offensive line group under the leadership of newly hired Mike McCarthy. Evans finished out his playing time in the league with McCarthy as his head coach while they were both employed by the Green Bay Packers.

Before playing home games at Lambeau Field in the 2017 regular season, the six-time Pro Bowl guard spent a decade in New Orleans, where he would win Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints. Evans was a crucial piece of the Saints’ success and offensive production. He was named to the AP All-Pro First Team four consecutive years from 2009-12. Evans earned second-team honors in 2013.

Jahri served as the epitome of an “Iron Man” athlete. Over the course of his 12-year career, Evans missed just nine games while starting in every game of his 193 total appearances, including playoffs. His prowess on and off the field has earned Evans the honor of being a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, for the past three years, although he has yet to be enshrined.

Pittsburgh will be getting a talented former player and coach on their staff ahead of the 2026 season.

New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien is interviewing for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator job, per Jeremy Fowler.

The Steelers have notified the Saints that they plan to interview assistant Scott Tolzien for offensive coordinator, per sources.

Tolzien was a Mike McCarthy quarterback in Green Bay and assistant in Dallas. He coached Saints quarterbacks Tyler Shough this year. pic.twitter.com/Yq46lNquAW

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) January 29, 2026

Tolzien joined the Saints coaching staff in 2025 as part of Kellen Moore’s team. The former NFL quarterback was a player for the Steelers’ new head coach, Mike McCarthy, during his time with the Green Bay Packers, and coached under McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys as quarterbacks coach before joining Kellen Moore in New Orleans under the same position after McCarthy was fired in 2024.

Tolzien has been a vital part of the development of starting quarterback Tyler Shough, who showed tremendous development after earning the starting job halfway through the season. Part of the Saints’ feeling comfortable without a veteran quarterback on the roster was their experience on the coaching staff, with Tolzien, Moore, and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier all being former passers in the NFL. While Nussmeier and Moore will obviously both remain on the roster, the potential loss of Tolzien could be significant.

Tolzien is only 38 years old and has been coaching since 2019, when he joined the Wisconsin Badgers as an analyst. After joining the Cowboys in 2023, Tolzien’s acceleration up the coaching ladder has been impressive, and a move to offensive coordinator may be the final step before he gets a chance at being a head coach.

Stade de France

There have been rumors swirling for a while now, but today, the NFL has officially confirmed the news that the New Orleans Saints will play the first regular season NFL game in Paris, France. The opponent, date and kickoff time will be announced at a later date.

The game will be played at the Stade de France, which is located in the Saint-Denis commune and is roughly 32 miles north of the Eiffel Tower. The stadium has a seating capacity of just over 80,000, which makes it the largest in France.

In 2023, the Saints established their marketing rights in Paris, France and last summer, Saints owner Gayle Benson, LB Demario Davis, Paris Musketeers head coach Jack Del Rio, and several other Saints staff members traveled to Paris to enhance the Saints’ brand visibility and strengthen the connection between the team and fans abroad by participating in and sponsoring a series of community events. Since then, there has been much speculation that they would be host a game in the city during the 2026 NFL season.

“We are excited to be selected to play in the first regular season game to take place in France,” said Saints Owner Gayle Benson. “This moment is special not only because of the strong cultural connection between Louisiana and France, but also because we will compete before a growing Saints fan base in Paris. I am grateful to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Charles Kushner, Ambassador of the United States to France, and the French Government, especially Laurent Bili, Ambassador of France to the United States, and Samuel Ducroquet, Ambassador of France to Sport, for helping make this historic event possible.”

This will be Saints’ first international game since facing the Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on October 2, 2022.

Haener was drafted by the Saints in the 4th round (127th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. he was suspended the first 6 weeks of his rookie season due to testing positive for a performance enhancing substance that is banned by the NFL.

Haener began the 2024 season as the backup to newly signed veteran QB Derek Carr. After Carr suffered a hand injury in Week 14, Haener was named the starter for the next game against the Washington Commanders.

The Saints waived Haener in August 2025 however, he was then signed to the practice squad the next day. After being re-signed and waived from the active roster again, Haener remained on the Saints practice squad for the rest of the 2025 season.

Through 8 games and 1 start in New Orleans, Haener threw for 18/39, 226 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT.

The 26-year-old will now get a fresh start playing alongside Patrick Mahomes under Andy Reid with Chiefs.
