Major League Baseball has suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Braun will not contest the suspension, which was meted out for "violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," according to a statement released by MLB.

"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect," Braun said in the statement. "I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization.

"I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country. Finally, I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed -- all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates. I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love."

The suspension includes the final 65 games of the Brewers' season and any potential postseason games this year.

If he did use PEDs, the rest of the year isn't nearly enough of a suspension. If a player knowingly uses PEDs to enhance their abilities, I think even an entire season suspension is being generous.

Also, just to include this argument wherever I can, since I know it's your favorite, Cmt : Cheat and get MVP, half-year suspension. Bet on your team, banned from baseball for your entire life.

Makes sense. :P

Baseball has been on the decline over the past years, and this is the reason. Players cheat to become good, and are ruining the game. I always thought Braun was a good player and didn't cheat, but now I don't know what to believe. Anybody out there could be using steroids, no matter how respected or good they are.

Yeah, this is definitely tough to hear. Braun was always one of my favorite non-Reds players... I always had a ton of respect for him. If he used PEDs, though, that's definitely not gonna be the case anymore.

Personally, I don't have a lot to say about this. It's a shame. He played the innocent game when they caught him last year and he managed to get his suspension reversed with his appeal. This time, he was unable to do that. Similar to when Alex Rodriguez told the public he didn't do steroids and then he went back and admitted to it later, Ryan Braun lied to us. It is ridiculous, and like HRSox said, it is horrible for this sport.

It's a shame because I thought we were past the steroid era, but once again is another player that has tarnished his legacy. This has destroyed any chances of him making the Hall of Fame which were unlikely to begin with.

I'm glad he got suspended. I hope he has learned his lesson this time for it! It's funny how all the players were hating on him for this incident. Braun probably doesn't care though..he already is a high millionare rich guy.
