Game 92: Reds vs. Marlins (7:10 PM ET) - Martinez vs. Perez

Cincinnati Reds v Boston Red Sox

Go Reds!

The Cincinnati Reds need a win in the worst possible way.

They’ve lost three in a row and five of seven overall, and another loss tonight would send them all the way back to a .500 record.

For all the optimism that was sported through the month of June, this club is stubbing its toe during one of the most pivotal stretches of their season, and they’re running out of time to convince the front office and ownership that they’re worth investing in at the trade deadline to keep the 2025 dreams alive.

Once again, they have the Miami Marlins on their plate in their home ball park. It’s time they started winning games against the teams they absolutely must beat this year to stand a chance at making the playoffs.

First pitch is set for 7:10 PM ET tonight with Nick Martinez on the bump throwing it.

Game 93: Just please don’t get wrecked by the Marlins again, Reds

Milwaukee Brewers v Miami Marlins

Go, Reds?

Former National League Cy Young Award winner Sanday Alcantara is on the mound for the Miami Marlins tonight in Great American Ball Park as they attempt to take their third straight game off the Cincinnati Reds.

It’s been a brutal stretch for the Reds, who have now dropped four in a row overall to fall all the way back to .500.

For all the pseudo optimism there was around this club a week and a half ago when Chase Burns made his debut, we’re now talking about a club that’s 8.5 games back of its division leader, mired in 4th place within said division, 4 games back of the final NL Wild Card spot (with at least 3 teams they’ll need to jump depending on how today goes), and a blink away from literally having a losing record.

How long have we been asked to wait for a good, legit Reds team, again?

I digress.

It’s up to All-Star Andrew Abbott to help stem the tide on the mound, while the Bats, quite simply, have to wake the f&*k up.

Reds win 6-0, salvage series split with Marlins

Miami Marlins v Cincinnati Reds

It was bad, but it could have been much, much worse.

Things weren’t bleak bleak on Tuesday night. We’ve all witnessed the Cincinnati Reds lose a hundred games, rebuild thrice, and do everything in their power to underperform for the better part of our lives, after all.

Things were not 2022 bleak, nor were they 2015 bleak. They were, however, frustratingly bleak given the expectations placed on this year’s club, what with Terry Francona trotted in and Elly De La Cruz officially ascending into superstardom.

They’d just gotten smothered by the lowly, rebuilding Miami Marlins by the tune of 12-2, and had it done to them in their home stadium, no less. They’d lost each of the first two games of the series on a homestand that featured two of the worst clubs in the game, and they’d officially fallen all the way back to level-par - a literal .500 club.

Playing .500 ball through ~90 games would have felt like a godsend in some of those aforementioned seasons. Good lord, we have seen some shit around these parts. But for a team like this, that finally had expectations, to have slumped that low just a week or two after they’d finally played well enough to make us believe?

It really does make you weight whether it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

Anyway, these Reds have picked themselves up off the mat from Tuesday’s woes. They blasted the Marlins last night 7-2 and again this afternoon 6-0, following the lead of Nick Lodolo (6.0 scoreless IP) and Spencer Steer (dinger!) to sneak back up to 48-46 and halve the series.

On top of that, they’ve got the lowly Colorado Rockies coming to town for a three-game set this weekend, precisely the club who’s going to threaten to lose more games than any team ever has in a single season this season.

It would be preferred if things never proceeded as if they were on a roller coaster, but that’s just not the way the Baseball Gods prefer it. They’re going to reel you in, give you your lungs back, and do it all over time and time again. From Tuesday’s glumness to today’s high, it’s now feasible these Reds could enter the All-Star break five games over .500 and right back in this thing.

(If, of course, they don’t botch the series against the Rockies the way they botched the one against the Marlins.)

We’ve got a weekend of baseball left before the real baseball begins. Here’s hoping the Reds haven’t already looked too far ahead and can take care of business to - yes - send us into the break (and trade season) with more hope than we’ve had around here in years.

Who will win the 2025 Home Run Derby?

Gillette Home Run Derby presented by Head & Shoulders

Photo by LG Patterson/MLB via Getty Images

We’ll find out tonight!

The annual Home Run Derby commences this evening at 8 PM ET in Atlanta as part of this year’s All-Star Game festivities.

While there have been a few notable scratches and even more high-profile players decline to participate altogether, there will still be a solid eight-pack of sluggers who’ll be out there crushing dingers into the humid Georgia air tonight.

That includes Matt Olson, Atlanta’s All-Star 1B who - like Todd Frazier in 2015 - will be trying to win the derby in his home park. He’ll be joined by a cadre of National League and American League mashers (not all of whom are actual ‘All-Stars’ this year).

Here’s the full list of participants:

Matt Olson, 1B (Atlanta Braves)

Junior Caminero, 3B (Tampa Bay Rays)

Oneil Cruz, CF (Pittsburgh Pirates)

Byron Buxton, CF (Minnesota Twins)

Jazz Chisholm, Jr., 2B/3B (New York Yankees)

Cal Raleigh, C (Seattle Mariners)

James Wood, OF (Washington Nationals)

Brent Rooker, DH (Las Oaklamentgas A’s)

You can watch the entire festivities on ESPN beginning at 8 PM ET.

Who ya got winning this one?

How to watch the 2025 MLB All-Star Game

2025 MLB All-Star Game

Elly De La Cruz is there!

The 2025 edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game takes place tonight in Atlanta, with coverage set to begin at 8 PM ET on FOX. Joe Davis, John Smoltz, Ken Rosenthal, and Tom Verducci will spearhead the televised coverage, though we’ll surely have multiple players mic’d up (and interviewed mid-game), too.

They’ll be using the automated ball-strike challenge system in this exhibition, a quirk that will surely infuriate at least one or six people along the way. They’ll also each be wearing their own team’s regular season uniforms instead of the usual horribly designed ASG-specific ones we’ve seen in the past.

Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates will toe the rubber for the National League, meaning he’ll throw the first pitch seeing as the NL will act as the home team in the Braves home park. Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal will start for the AL on the other side.

Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz isn’t in the starting lineup at short for the NL as Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets earned that nod in the voting. Elly will surely feature at some point, however, while lefty Andrew Abbott - who’s on almost a full week’s rest - has a chance to toss some pitches for the NL squad at some point, too.

Go All-Stars!

NL team is stacked, AL team is, well, Cal Raleigh is fun!

Should the Reds call up Sal Stewart in this season’s second half?

Rocket City Trash Pandas v. Chattanooga Lookouts

Photo by Maddalena LoRae/Minor League Baseball

You tell us!

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Cincinnati Reds fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Cincinnati Reds prospect Sal Stewart was drafted out of Westminster Christian School (FL) with a reputation as a pure hitter. That’s the tool that earned him an offer to play ball at powerhouse Vanderbilt University, an offer he eschewed when the Reds used the #32 overall pick on him back in 2022.

Since turning pro, Sal has done nothing to dispel the notion that he’s one of the better young hitters on the planet.

He’s the owner of a career .389 OBP across over 1200 PA in the minors, including a brilliant .306/.377/.473 overall line so far in 2025. All that production has come for AA Chattanooga, to date, though Sal just earned a promotion to AAA Louisville while also repping the Reds in this past weekend’s All-Star Futures Game.

Still just 21 years old, it’s pretty clear Sal’s trajectory has him on the Cincinnati Reds in short order. The question, though, is just how short.

So far in 2025, the collective output from Cincinnati’s 3B corps has produced a miserable 64 wRC+, a mark that’s good for third worst in all Major League Baseball. Sal, of course, plays 3B.

So far in 2025, the collective output from Cincinnati’s DH corps has produced a mediocre 94 wRC+, a mark that’s good for 21st. Sal, of course, can hit designatedly.

He’s clearly a long-term piece. Is he a short-term answer, too?

Should the Reds give Sal a call-up in 2025? Is he the kind of piece that could help push this team into playoff position?

Tell us in the survey below!

Defense again in the spotlight as Reds drop another to Dodgers

gettyimages-2232301449.jpg

One of the few things cooler than going an entire season without being swept is simply not losing the first two games of a series to thereby beg the question.

Alas, here we find the Cincinnati Reds, losers of the first two games of their series in Dodger Stadium, and on the brink of being doused completely in a series for the first time in 2025. And, in the process, the Reds are watching their faint postseason hopes drift ever further from their boat.

The Reds 6-3 loss late Tuesday to the Dodgers featured a recipe quite similar to their series opening loss to them in that a big defensive miscue effectively slammed the door. Whereas it was the 5-hole grounder missed completely by Elly De La Cruz on Monday, it was a 2-run, 2-out double off the wall in CF by Miguel Rojas that broke the game wide open on Tuesday.

It sounds innocuous enough – a double off the wall in CF. However, it came via a bit of a misread by CF Noelvi Marte, and the ball went right over his head despite being otherwise catchable.

CF Noelvi Marte. That’s what’s not innocuous.

Despite having all the athletic talent in the world and at least a half-month or so of experience in RF, the idea that the Reds could simply use Noelvi in CF for his first career professional start there on Tuesday night seemed perilous, at best, when lineups were announced. Putting a guy out there in such a vital spot just seemed to ensure the Baseball Gods were going to point the spotlight on him, and sure enough that’s exactly what happened.

Frankly, I think Noelvi can play a good CF out there eventually. I think with practice, experience with foreign ball parks, etc. he’ll end up being just fine out there. But to simply ask for it to manifest itself before any of that was far too much from manager Terry Francona, Nick Krall, and the front office, and it burned them in a big, big way on Tuesday.

That the Reds offense was once again subdued shouldn’t be misunderstood here, however. Clayton Kershaw shut them down completely after the Reds scored a run in the Top of the 1st, though a colossally poor bunt attempt that turned into a backbreaking double-play in the Top of the 6th was a similarly devastating attempt at trying to manufacture something when you know you can’t simply, y’know, hit the goddamn ball.

The Reds now find themselves 3.5 games back of the New York Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot, and now they’ll face Shohei Ohtani in the series finale. They’ll welcome back lefty Nick Lodolo from his blister issues to make the start, but they’ve once again found themselves behind the 8-ball by their own doing and now look like they’ll need a miracle to turn this entire thing back around.

Reds salvage series against Diamondbacks with 6-1 win on Sunday

gettyimages-2231887267.jpg

Spencer Steer doubled and blasted a crucial 3-run homer on Sunday afternoon in the blistering heat of the Phoenix area to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a vital 6-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Steer’s offense backed yet another excellent start by righty Brady Singer, who entered play on Sunday having allowed just 6 ER in 29.0 IP across his previous 5 starts. Singer provided more of the same against the Snakes, limiting them to just a lone earned run – scored in the opening frame – while pitching around another 3-error game from his own defense.

Singer’s final line: 6.0 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, 9 K on 95 pitches.

gettyimages-2231889923.jpg

The win moved the Reds back to 5 games over .500 at 68-63, precisely where they were when they began their current West Coast road trip. They’re 3-3 through their first two series of said trip – first having taken on the Los Angeles Angels before Arizona – and next up they face a Los Angeles Dodgers club whose bats woke up late in an 8-2 victory over their bitter rivals the San Diego Padres that left those two clubs tied atop the National League West at day’s end.

While Steer’s big blast was the signature swing of this victory, props are due to Austin Hays (3 for 5 with a ribbie and run scored) and Noelvi Marte (2 for 5 with a pair of runs scored and a triple that he turned into yet another Little League dinger). Meanwhile, Will Banfield made his big league debut with the start behind the plate, and he obviously was well on the same page with Singer while calling the game.

Monday will see Hunter Greene take the mound in Dodger Stadium against the Reds old NL West rivals, with Emmet Sheehan starting for the Dodgers from the other dugout. First pitch there is set for 10:10 PM ET, so get your evening coffee pots set and ready.

It’s the Reds vs. the Dodgers with significant marbles on the line

gettyimages-452540791.jpg

For the baseball lifers who were lucky enough to witness the greatness that was the Big Red Machine during the 1970s, there’s not a team on the Cincinnati Reds schedule that draws a scowl like that of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The two clubs were heaped into the same National League West when Major League Baseball underwent a massive realignment in 1969, precise timing that coincided with the rise of the Reds dynasty. Those Dodgers clubs were nothing to scoff at, either – thrice they lost in the World Series in the 1970s before finally breaking through to win it in 1981, the likes of Ron Cey, Dusty Baker, Steve Garvey, and Hall of Famer Don Sutton forming the backbone of those clubs.

The two clubs were the best in the National League for much of that time, fierce division rivals who left it all on the field each and every time they played each other. That included the disastrous decision in 1981 to leave the Reds out of the playoffs altogether despite them owning the best overall record in baseball as the lockout had moved the format to two separate halves, neither of which the Reds technically ‘lead.’

(As I mentioned, the Dodgers won the World Series that year, a year in which the Reds were literally the best team in baseball and missed the postseason.)

The youngest few generations of Reds/Dodgers fans don’t have those same connotations. The Reds were shipped off to the NL Central in 1994 as MLB expanded once again, and the two clubs haven’t occupied the same division since. On top of that, the Dodgers have emerged as Evil Empire West, spending money on superstars and playing in the limelight year after year after year as the Reds struggle to get out of their own way most of the time.

That’s a little bit different in 2025, however.

gettyimages-95482493.jpg

The Reds sit 5 games over the .500 mark as they open Monday’s series in Dodger Stadium, while a second-half slide by LA has them tied with San Diego Padres atop the NL West standings. Both clubs have eyes on postseason dreams this year, yet neither is in a comfortable enough position to take this series lightly. Cincinnati sits 1.5 games back of the New York Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot, and does so as the Mets head into an equally spot-lit series against their fierce rivals in Philadelphia this week.

It’s the way late-August baseball should be for these storied franchises, and it’s finally back on that stage.

First pitch on Monday in Dodger Stadium will be chucked by Emmet Sheehan of Los Angeles, while Cincinnati will send their ace – and southern California native – Hunter Greene to the mound. First pitch is set for 10:10 PM ET and will be carried on MLB Network as well as the FanDuel Sports Network, so find your way to a TV for some #LateNightReds again this evening.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the start of another era of the Reds/Dodgers rivalry.

Are the Cincinnati Reds ‘fixing’ Ke’Bryan Hayes at the plate?

gettyimages-2231385825.jpg

That the Cincinnati Reds swung a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes at the July 31st trade deadline this summer was not a huge surprise. The defensive issues at the hot corner by Noelvi Marte were well known, and the once robust cast of options the Reds had at the hot corner had dwindled through attrition and moving players to other positions.

Marte, it should be noted, ended up on the move as part of the deal – not to Pittsburgh, obviously, but to the corner outfield, where his athleticism and an arm that was more strong than accurate could potentially thrive.

Hayes’ acquisition wasn’t the biggest thing that made me squint, though. That honor goes to the Reds being willing to take on the entirety of his long-term contract extension signed back in 2022, a deal that will ultimately pay him a minimum of $36 million through 2030 – and potentially more.

Taking on that kind of deal is an obvious admission that they’re fond of the player. It’s not back-breaking by any team’s financial standards, but it’s a commitment to a one-position player for a length of time that suggests that they see upside within him still, something that had been hard to see when he languished in Pittsburgh as a glove-only, no-bat defender whose entire value was tied up in one skill.

That’s no exaggeration. Among the 191 players who’ve logged at least 700 PA since the start of the 2024 season, Hayes’ .264 is the second worst. His 64 wRC+ in that time is also second worst. His .305 slugging percentage in that time is dead last.

Those numbers now include a minuscule 77 PA sample from his time with the Reds, a time in which he’s already beginning to show a bit of a different profile at the plate than in his last bit of time as a Pirate. The questions that come with that are twofold.

Is there something the Reds are doing tangibly different with Hayes than the Pirates did?

If so, is there any evidence that it’s actually changing him for the better?

A quick dive into the numbers – courtesy of FanGraphs – reveals at least a few promising developments.

That 2024-2025 sample I mentioned above features an overall 50.2% groundball rate, a mark that checks in as the 10th highest in the game in that span. That dovetails with his career 49.1% mark, and his launch-angles (2.6 degrees at its worst in 2021, 7.4 degrees for his career) suggest that’s no outlying pattern. For most of his career outside an extremely different 2023 season (where he posted a 13.2 degree launch angle, socked a career-best 15 homers, slugged a career-best .453, and posted a career-low 41.8% groundball rate), he’s just been a guy who smacks the ball on the ground a lot with a swing that’s designed to do so.

His brief time as a Red has seen that groundball rate dip 8.5% already down to 41.0%. His fly-ball rate has jumped up 8.3% in that short time, too, while his launch angle is rising steadily from 9.1 before the trade in 2025 up to 9.6 degrees. He’s being more patient in the early returns, too – his chase rate on pitches outside the zone has dropped from 28.2% down to what would be a career-best 22.1%, his swing% is down to what would be a career-low 41.0%, and he’s making more contact (85.3%) than he ever has.

gettyimages-2231691642.jpg

As Cincinnati’s offense continues to sputter overall – their collective 83 wRC+ over the last 30 calendar days is tied for the second-worst in baseball – Hayes has been a steady, steadily improving force. He owns a 123 wRC+ in that time, and that’s helped buoy the club while the likes of Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, and Austin Hays have struggled terribly.

It’s all a horrendously small sample, obviously. It’s still hard to ignore that there’s been at least a bit of a tangible change in how his approach and results are dovetailing, especially when his K-rate has been sliced almost entirely in half, too (20.7% with Pittsburgh this year, just 10.4% with the Reds). Even his .288 BABIP with the Reds doesn’t make this scream like it’s all an outlier, and rather something that maybe, just maybe is a minor transformation that’s taking place on the fly.

If so, that’s a tremendous boon to the Reds, who know already that Hayes’ Platinum Glove caliber defense was going to provide them with at least a steady ~1.5 WAR per season floor. If they can manage to get his offense even anywhere close to league average (up from quite possibly the worst regular bat in the big leagues), well, they’ve acquired a guy who can be a routine 3.5-4 WAR player for the forseeable future, a bargain at the rate they’ve taken on in that trade.

Dodgers blank Reds 7-0, homer twice off Hunter Greene

gettyimages-2232109030.jpg

A grounder off the bat of Andy Pages in the Bottom of the 6th inning is going to get a lot of focus from those who follow the Cincinnati Reds religiously, and that’s fine.

Said grounder went five-hole on Elly De La Cruz, and did so with 2-outs and the bases loaded. It was the kind of back-breaking error in a big moment on a big stage that makes you wonder how long its memory will bounce around the All-Star shortstop’s head, one that once again draws attention to his list of defensive miscues at the most important position on the field.

The Cincinnati Reds lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 7-0, however. Ace Hunter Greene served up a pair of dingers to Pages on the very same hanging breaking ball. Greene walked the bases loaded to set up De La Cruz’s misplay, and Austin Hays airmailed the catcher for an error of his own on the very same play.

The Reds ace wasn’t as sharp as he can be. Defenders all over the field had their issues. And the Cincinnati offense, whose collective 76 wRC+ in the month of August ranks second worst in all of Major League Baseball, was once again putrid – this time being absolutely dominated by Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan.

Yeah, Elly’s error burned. It was not, however, the lone reason they lost the series opener while in the midst of a legitimate playoff chase in the powerful National League. They didn’t pitch well enough or hit well enough while also not fielding well enough.

The error was Elly’s 20th of the 2025 season, which is the most in all of baseball. That’s on the heels of his 29 errors last year also being the most in all of baseball. While his range at short is perhaps the best in all of baseball, the total number of extra runners his defensive lapses are allowing is beginning to become something serious worth discussing.

The offense simply cratering, though, is much more a tale worth investigating. Elly’s a part of that too – he’s sporting a miserable 41 wRC+in August – but the team’s overall offensive failings are becoming something that is simply impossible to overcome. Despite playing their home games in the most dinger-friendly park in baseball, their 14 total homers in the month of August are the fewest of any team in the sport.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, now have 36 dingers this month – tied for fourth most in the big leagues. They also now sit atop the National League West standings once again.

How should the Reds fit Sal Stewart into their lineup?

gettyimages-2228080080.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Reds fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

The Cincinnati Reds have a verfiable slugger waiting in the wings in young Sal Stewart.

The 21 year old former 1st round draftee blasted his way through AA with the Chattanooga Lookouts only to be promoted at the All-Star break to AAA. With the Louisville Bats, he’s only mashed harder, posting a 1.052 OPS with 9 homers in just 33 games since his promotion.

Given just how poor the overall Cincinnati offense has been of late – their team wRC+ is the second worst of any ball club in the month of August – it’s enough to wonder why Sal hasn’t gotten the call to the big leagues yet. That said, with the roster expansion that’s coming on September 1st, there’s a good chance we’ll see him up then if the Reds are too shy to call him up beforehand.

The question is, though, where he’ll play.

You tell us! If the Reds get the guts to promote their best hitting prospect for this playoff chase, where exactly should he play?

Vote in the poll below, and stay tuned for the results later in the week!

Game 133: Reds at Dodgers (10:10 PM ET) – Martinez vs. Kershaw)

gettyimages-175891997.jpg

The Cincinnati Reds are looking to level their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Dodger Stadium tonight, and will try to do so against future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw.

That’s right – a lefty on the mound!

We’re going to see Noelvi Marte play CF, which is interesting. We’re also going to see slap-hitting infielder Santiago Espinal play RF, which is certainly something. Meanwhile, Sal Stewart homered at AAA again already this evening.

First pitch is set for 10:10 PM ET, with Nick Martinez the slated starter for the Reds.

Reds activate Nick Lodolo, place Graham Ashcraft on injured list

gettyimages-2227617978.jpg

The Cincinnati Reds added back one of their best arms ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, officially activating lefty Nick Lodolo after he missed the last three weeks with blister issues.

While that’s incredibly good news, it came at the expense of one of their best relievers. Graham Ashcraft, who’d moved to the bullpen at the start of this year after spending most of his career as a starter, was placed on the injured list with the always-ominous forearm strain with no concrete diagnosis yet shared.

The Reds announced the move on Twitter.

The #Reds today activated from the 15-day injured list LHP Nick Lodolo and placed on the 15-day injured list, retro to 8/25, RHP Graham Ashcraft (right forearm strain) pic.twitter.com/cQZ6uEF39E

— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) August 27, 2025

Prior to exiting his August 4th start against the Chicago Cubs with the blister, Lodolo had been on an incredible roll. His month of July was particularly spectacular, as he logged 33.1 IP across 5 GS and allowed just 7 ER in that time (1.89 ERA) – work that included an absurd 38/4 K/BB. His 27.6% K-BB% in that month ranked 3rd among all qualified MLB starters behind only Zack Wheeler and Paul Skenes.

To date, Baseball Reference lists Lodolo as the 2nd most valuable Red so far this season with 4.4 bWAR (behind only Andrew Abbott’s 4.7).

With Ashcraft out, the Reds will likely slide Nick Martinez into his fireman/bulk-relief role once again, though since Martinez started just last night he’s surely unavailable for at least a day or two. Fortunately for the Reds, Thursday is a day off as they travel back to Cincinnati from their 3-team road trip out west, so the hope is that he’ll be ready in some capacity when they open their 9-game homestand Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

For now, though, it’s on Lodolo to hit the ground running. The Reds are at risk of being swept for the first time all season should they drop Wednesday’s series finale in Dodger Stadium, and he’ll be sharing the mound with one Shohei Ohtani while leading Cincinnati’s charge.

Game 134: Reds at Dodgers (8:40 PM ET) – Lodolo vs. Ohtani

Nick Lodolo is back, Graham Ashcraft is shelved, and the Cincinnati Reds will try to salvage a game in this series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and stay within long-range drone distance of the NL Wild Card race.

The only thing standing in their way? Shohei Ohtani the pitcher.

(And Shohei Ohtani the hitter, but you already knew that.)

First pitch is set for 8:40 PM ET, and with an off-day tomorrow Terry Francona should have his entire bullpen available, in theory.
