The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third consecutive year after finishing with a record of 81-81 and coming in third place in the American League East.
After winning the World Series in 2018, the Red Sox have only made the postseason one time, which resulted in a loss in the American League Championship Series.
The Red Sox appear to be trying to get back into their winning ways as they have made some key acquisitions this offseason to improve their pitching staff.
One big starting pitcher acquisition includes Garrett Crochet via trade from the Chicago White Sox.
MLB Analyst Jim Bowden revealed his thoughts on the Red Sox attempting to sign Crochet long-term now instead of waiting.
“I think Boston is doing the right thing, if you’re going to extend him, you got to do it now,” Bowden said via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM."Boston is doing the right thing."@JimBowdenGM on the #RedSox best chance to sign Garrett Crochet long-term:

Bowden mentions that if the Red Sox were to wait to attempt to extend Crochet, he could end up getting more than starting pitcher Max Fried did this offseason when he signed with the New York Yankees.
Fried signed with the Yankees for eight years worth $218 million, and Bowden thinks that if Crochet lives up to what people think he will, he could get even more than that.
Crochet came into the league with the White Sox in 2020 and has played all four seasons of his MLB career with the team.
In 2024 with the White Sox, Crochet started 32 games and held a record of 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts in 146.0 innings pitched.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season after finishing with a record of 81-81 and third in the American League East.
After winning four World Series titles in a 15-season span, the Red Sox appear to have fallen off a bit as they have made the playoffs once since their last title in 2018.
The Red Sox won three straight AL East titles from 2016-18 but haven’t won the division since then, with their best finish being second in 2021.
While the Red Sox have hit a rough patch, they made some major acquisitions this offseason as they try to get back to their winning ways.
In addition, the Red Sox were voted to have the best farm system in the game by MLB executives.
According to MLB Pipeline, the Red Sox received 32 percent of the votes, finishing ahead of the AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays.

The Red Sox have one of the younger teams in MLB already, and their farm system gives fans even more hope that they will turn things around shortly.
Boston will have to beat out the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays if it wants to win another division title, but things appear to be trending in the right direction.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox call up some of their talented young prospects during the 2025 season.

The Boston Red Sox have fallen off over the past few seasons after winning the World Series in 2018.
Since then, they have made the postseason once and have missed the playoffs the past three seasons.
This offseason, the Red Sox have made some major moves to improve their pitching, adding starters Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler, and reliever Aroldis Chapman.
With rumors swirling about the Red Sox adding a bat, MLB insider Jon Morosi revealed what he’s hearing regarding a possible trade.
“Boston is not the only team right now that [Nolan] Arenado is willing to waive that no-trade clause,” Morisi said, via MLB Network.Nolan Arenado has reportedly been more "open minded" to waiving his no-trade clause to more teams in the last 24 hours, per @jonmorosi.#MLBNHotStove pic.twitter.com/AibevANjLl
— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) January 9, 2025
It was previously reported that Arenado would only be willing to be traded to the Red Sox, but Morosi revealed that there could be more teams he’s willing to go to.
The veteran third baseman played eight seasons for the Colorado Rockies before going to the St. Louis Cardinals for the past four seasons.
The 33-year-old could be just what the Red Sox are looking for, but he reportedly could be willing to be traded to the Seattle Mariners or Detroit Tigers as well.
In 2024 with the Cardinals, Arenado played 152 games and batted .272 with 16 home runs, 71 RBIs and a .719 OPS.
Arenado proved that he still has the tools to perform and will be a name to watch to see if he gets moved before the 2025 season.

The Boston Red Sox have won four World Series titles since 2004 but have fallen off by missing the postseason the past three seasons.
After finishing with a record of 81-81 and third in the American League East, the Red Sox are making moves this offseason to get back to their winning ways.
They have acquired multiple notable starting pitchers including Garrett Crochet in a trade with the Chicago White Sox and Walker Buehler as a free agent from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Buehler’s 2024 numbers don’t jump off the page, but one MLB analyst said he believes Red Sox fans should be optimistic about the signing.
“Three reasons why Red Sox fans should be optimistic about Walker Buehler: 1. Renovated pitch mix; 2. Prove-it contracts work; 3. Postseason pedigree,” Paul Hembekides wrote on X.3 reasons why Red Sox fans should be optimistic about Walker Buehler:

— Paul Hembekides (Hembo) (@PaulHembo) January 8, 2025
The Red Sox gave Buehler a one-year deal worth $21 million for the 2025 season.
The veteran has begun throwing his off-speed pitches at a much higher rate while also performing well in the postseason.
In seven playoff starts in 2019 and 2020, he gave up six runs in 37.2 innings.
Buehler missed the 2023 season due to injury and got off to a rocky start in 2024 before figuring things out in the postseason.
In 2024 with the Dodgers, Buehler started 16 regular season games and was 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. In their run to the World Series title, he was 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 15 innings.
The Red Sox could have found a gem with Buehler, and it will be intriguing to see how he performs in 2025.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for a third straight season after finishing third in the American League East with a record of 81-81.
Although the Red Sox have had a few rough seasons in a row, they are making some significant moves this offseason in an attempt to get back to a competitive level.
The Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Garrett Crochet in a trade with the Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Walker Buehler as a free agent from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With some new and improved pieces in their rotation, the Red Sox could now be looking to add some offense, and one player is reportedly interested in joining them.

In 2024, Arenado played 152 games and batted .272 with 16 home runs, 71 RBIs and a .719 OPS.
The Red Sox are known for the Green Monster in left field at Fenway Park, and adding a right-handed bat with some pop could be among their top priorities as the offseason progresses.
Although Arenado had 16 home runs last season, he has hit at least 34 home runs in six seasons.
The Red Sox will continue to be a team to keep an eye on as the offseason continues.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season after finishing with a record of 81-81 and coming in third place in the American League East.
Although the Red Sox have had a few tough years, they are making moves this offseason in an attempt to get the team back to its winning ways.
The Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Garrett Crochet from the White Sox, signed relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman from the Pittsburgh Pirates, and signed starting pitcher Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ the Red Sox dropped a hype video for the Buehler signing.

The Red Sox appear to have had the plan to focus on upgrading their pitching this offseason as they have added multiple starting pitchers and relief pitchers.
Buehler was the most recent starting pitcher added to the roster, and the team released a hype video on social media to celebrate the right-handed pitcher coming to the team.
After coming into the league in 2017 with the Dodgers and playing all seven seasons of his MLB career with the team, Buehler will start fresh with the Red Sox in 2025.
In 2024 with the Dodgers, Buehler started 16 games and held a record of 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched.
Buehler was coming off of an injury that kept him out the entire 2023 season, and although the regular season was rough, he appeared to find something in the postseason last year.
The Red Sox will hope to get a fully healthy Buehler for the 2025 season as they try to get back into the postseason for the first time since 2021.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for a third straight year after finishing with a record of 81-81, which landed them in third place in the American League East.
With the AL East one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball, the Red Sox need to remain aggressive in the offseason to keep up with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
The Red Sox have added talent to their pitching staff with the acquisitions of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox and Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Former MLB GM Jim Duquette recently revealed one more move that the Red Sox should make, and that is signing third baseman Alex Bregman from the Houston Astros.
“The one big issue that they haven’t addressed yet is their infield defense, and they also need a right-handed bat. So those two things can be accomplished with one signing, I think, and that’s get Bregman and you move [Rafael] Devers to first,” Duquette said, via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM."Boston needs infield defense and a right-handed bat. Those two things can be accomplished with one signing."

Bregman is arguably the top bat still available via free agency, and he had another great year with the Astros in 2024.
He played in 145 games and batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and a .768 OPS.
Not only would Bregman provide a solid right-handed bat, but he also won a Gold Glove Award at third base for the first time last season.
The Red Sox have made some impactful moves in their rotation, but Duquette said adding Bregman will complete their offseason to-do list.
Although the Red Sox haven’t won the division since 2018, they have won four World Series titles since 2004 and appear like they will be more competitive in 2025.

The Major League Baseball offseason has not slowed down in excitement even after the top free agent Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets.
More and more moves are being made seemingly each day, with the Boston Red Sox making some splash moves in their starting rotation.
The Red Sox traded for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox earlier this offseason, and they made another starting pitcher acquisition on Monday.
Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers signed a reported one-year deal with the Red Sox.
MLB Analyst Chris Cotillo revealed why he likes the move by Buehler to sign a one-year deal.
“This is about hitting the market next year and maybe getting a mega-deal done,” Cotillo said via Foul Territory on ‘X.’"This is about hitting the market next year and maybe getting a mega-deal."@ChrisCotillo explains why he likes Walker Buehler on a one-year deal with the Red Sox.pic.twitter.com/zlq8T4RYWb![]()
— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) December 23, 2024
Buehler signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox and will be getting $21.05 million in the 2025 season.
Cotillo likes that Buehler signed only a one-year deal because if he can perform well, he could potentially get a substantially larger deal the following offseason.
Buehler will remain on a big market team after going to the Red Sox from the Dodgers, and Cotillo believes some pressure will be taken off due to the presence of Crochet as the ace of the staff.
In 2024 with the Dodgers, Buehler started 16 games where he held a record of 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched.
If Buehler can replicate his 2021 season where he started 33 games and had a 2.47 ERA, then he could possibly sign a huge contract come next offseason.

The Boston Red Sox reside in one of Major League Baseball’s toughest divisions the American League East.
In a division that includes the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox have their work cut out for them if they want to win a division title in 2025.
After finishing in third place in the AL East in 2024, the Red Sox have made some big moves this offseason to load up on starting pitching.
The Red Sox traded for Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox earlier this offseason, but they reportedly made another signing on Monday.
According to FOX Sports: MLB on ‘X,’ a first look at the potential starting rotation was revealed after the signing of Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fans took to social media to express their reactions about the first look at the starting rotation for the Red Sox.
Most fans agree that the rotation looks good on paper, but not everybody is sold on the rotation until they see them in action next season.
Buehler is 30 years old and came into the league in 2017 with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he has played all seven seasons of his MLB career.
In 2024 with the Dodgers, Buehler started 16 games where he held a record of 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched.
Although Buehler had a rocky 2024, he showed his potential back in 2021 when he started 33 games and had a 2.47 ERA with 212 strikeouts in 207.2 innings pitched.
The Red Sox will try to dethrone the Yankees and take back the AL East by winning their first division title since winning the World Series in 2018.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season in 2024 after finishing with a record of 81-81.
With their third-place finish in the American League East, the Red Sox broke their two-year streak of finishing dead last in one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Red Sox will likely need to make some moves this offseason if they want to contend for a division title.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora sent a clear message about the Red Sox in 2025.
I do believe if we make the right moves, we add the right pieces, and we put a good plan together in spring training, we’re gonna be in the hunt,” Cora said via MLB Network on ‘X.’"I do believe if we make the right moves, we add the right pieces and we put a good plan together in Spring Training, we're gonna be in the hunt."@RedSox manager Alex Cora discusses the bright future for his team.#MLBNHotStove | @SageUSAmerica pic.twitter.com/32n3fdWPop

The Red Sox have had some success in recent years as shown by their four World Series titles since 2004.
With a young and talented roster, Cora believes the team can contend for an AL East title in 2025 if they make the right moves this offseason.
In a division that includes the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox likely have to add some more talent if they want to contend.
The Red Sox were one of the teams in talks with the top free agent Juan Soto, but they did not end up signing him as Soto signed with the New York Mets.
Now that Soto is off the table, the Red Sox will have to look elsewhere to add offensive weapons to their lineup.
The Red Sox will be a team to watch as the offseason progresses to see how aggressive they will be.
