Ravens Team Notes

Rashod Bateman made eye-brow raising remarks about the Chiefs

Prior to the Philadelphia Eagles’ demolition of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman made some controversial remarks about the reigning AFC champions.

Bateman expressed his desire for the Eagles to win, and there is certainly nothing eyebrow-raising about that, but some of the reasons he gave as to why are a bit provocative, to say the least.

The former Golden Gopher is being very careful with what he does not say, but what’s being implied is quite noteworthy.

“I want the Eagles to win. But we all know how that goes. … I just don’t have respect for them anymore.”

— Ravens WR Rashod Bateman Is NOT rooting for the Chiefs in #SuperBowlLIX.

“I want the Eagles to win,” Bateman said on the SiriusXM program MB Fantasy Life.

“But we all know how that goes… I just don’t have respect for them (KC) anymore.”

Bateman continued:

“I just don’t have respect for them anymore. I think we all see why…Some stuff just go to far, and it affects other people, it affects other people’s lives and affects people’s outcomes. I don’t really like that”

Let’s focus on a few phrases there, the first one being “but we all know how that goes.”

How what goes? Well, we’re not here to put words in Bateman’s mouth, but you can probably read in between the lines on that one.

The next phrases to pay special attention to are “we all see why…Some stuff just go too far.”

Now only Bateman knows for sure what he specifically means by these words, as he’s obviously keeping it a bit close to the vest. But what do you think he’s implying? That’s up to you the reader.

However, when you put the phrases that we highlighted all together, and pair that with the widely held belief that the Chiefs receive favoritism from the NFL, and well, you can draw a straight line here.

Of course, Chiefs fans would deny all of that, and simply claim the old “they hate us, cuz they ain’t us” routine.

Chiefs supporters will read/hear Bateman’s remarks and just say that he’s bitter about how the Ravens can’t beat them.

People who dislike the Chiefs will say that Bateman is all but saying it- the league wants Kansas City, more than any other team, to succeed.

Ravens AFC rival to hire Zach Orr's brother Chris to their coaching staff

The Ravens and Kansas City are among the best in the AFC, and the 2025 matchup against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium is now even more significant.

Matt Zenith reports that Chris Orr, brother of Baltimore defensive coordinator Zach Orr, has landed a job on the Kansas City coaching staff.

The #Chiefs are expected to hire Jackson State linebackers coach Chris Orr, a source tells @CBSSports/@247Sports.

Rams star WR shares recruiting pitch to Ravens' Kyle Hamilton

The Baltimore Ravens selected Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The selection couldn’t have panned out better for Baltimore, as they’ve seen Hamilton flourish into one of the premier defensive talents in the league while anchoring the team’s secondary as their versatile leader.

In an interview with Mina Kimes, Hamilton and Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua discussed many different topics in detail. When discussing each other’s games, Nacua threw in a recruiting pitch to Hamilton at the end of his answer.

It is doubtful that Hamilton will depart the Ravens, with the team holding his fifth-year option and having the opportunity to extend him shortly. However, given the extreme off-chance that he does leave, maybe Nacua’s pitch convinces him to head west to Los Angeles.

Report: Ravens to hire Chiefs safeties coach Donald D’Alesio

The Ravens are continuing to retool the coaching staff, and according to Matt Zenith, the team is expected to hire Donald D’Alesio.

D’Alesio just finished his fourth season with Kansas City and his third as the team’s safeties coach in 2024. D’Alesio served as a defensive assistant in his first season with the Chiefs in 2021.

The #Ravens are expected to hire #Chiefs safeties coach Donald D’Alesio, sources tell @CBSSports/@247Sports.

D’Alesio helped develop Justin Reid, the team’s leading tackler in 2023, with 95 tackles (74 solo). Reid also logged 3.0 sacks (-16.0 yards), seven passes defensed, five quarterback pressures, and five tackles for loss.

D’Alesio spent the 2020 season as a defensive analyst at Louisiana State University after spending five seasons on the Youngstown State football coaching staff (2015-19). Ravens QB Lamar Jackson retweets message on possible Myles Garrett trade

The Baltimore Ravens saw their 2024 season fall short against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round in a disappointing fashion. Despite turning their year around following a slow start, Baltimore couldn’t get the job done in the postseason again, sparking questions about what comes next and how they need to build their roster moving forward.

One area where the Ravens could look to add a game-changing talent is as an edge rusher. Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett recently told his team he wants to be traded. When an account posted a picture of Garrett in a Baltimore uniform, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson endorsed it with a repost.

— Kevin Oestreicher (@koestreicher34) February 3, 2025

It’s implausible that Garrett will end up in Baltimore if Cleveland trades him for multiple reasons, including that the Browns are in the Ravens’ division. However, that doesn’t change that Baltimore should look into a game-wrecker at the position, especially with the state of their edge room.

Where did Lamar Jackson land in Sportico's 100 highest-paid athletes list?

It was only 22 months ago that Lamar Jackson signed a five-year contract worth $260 million, which consisted of $185 million guaranteed and a $72.5 million signing bonus.

That averaged an annual salary of $52 million, making the Baltimore Ravens franchise quarterback the highest-paid NFL player of all time. That status was very short-lived, though, as Jackson’s average annual wages have been surpassed a few times since.

However, it was still surprising that Jackson didn’t make it to Sportico’s list of the 100 highest-paid athletes.

It lists the 100 top-earning athletes in all sports by salary plus endorsement income. No Ravens member made the cut, but that’s due to how Jackson’s contract is structured. It’s heavily backloaded, and the two-time NFL MVP is set to make $51,250,000 in 2026 and 2027, according to Spotrac.

That number would place him 46th on this year’s list- between James Harden of the L.A. Clippers and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was the highest NFL earner, coming in 12th at $100.4 million.

Soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the top overall spot, with his take-home pay of $260 million ($215m in salary, $45m in endorsements)

Should Ravens release Justin Tucker after more accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior?

Ravens star kicker Justin Tucker is facing more allegations that could force the NFL and the organization to sideline the future Hall of Fame kicker.

Baltimore labels itself an organization with zero tolerance for off-field issues. GM Eric DeCosta has a significant decision to make regarding Tucker’s future.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Tucker faces seven more allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior and misconduct, the newspaper reported Saturday.

In total, 16 massage therapists at eight different spas in the Baltimore area have accused Tucker of inappropriate behavior that allegedly occurred during the 2012 to 2016 time period.

In response to the previous allegations, Tucker’s attorney told the Baltimore Banner to refer to Tucker’s social media post when the legendary kicker called the allegations “unequivocally false.”

For the Ravens, the question now becomes, how many accusations are too many? Following a season in which Tucker had his most inconsistent year since joining the franchise, should Baltimore part ways and retool at the kicker position?

This season, Tucker missed a career-high eight field goals, and it comes after a 2023 season when he only made one of five field goals from beyond 50 yards. Tucker finished the 2024 season by making his final 28 kicks (five field goals and 23 extra points).

Tucker has three years left on a four-year, $24 million contract extension, but there is no guaranteed money in 2025, 2026, or 2027.

Tucker, 35, is a seven-time Pro Bowl player and the most accurate kicker in NFL history. He is the longest-tenured player on the Ravens and the last remaining player from their 2012 Super Bowl championship team.

Michigan DL Kenneth Grant makes sense for Ravens in Round 1 of NFL draft

Three days ago, the NFL released its full list of Scouting Combine invites, so you know what that means? It’s officially NFL Draft Talking Season. With the event commencing on Feb. 24th, it’s time to look ahead to potential prospects that the Baltimore Ravens could nab with the 27th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

One of the more intriguing names on the combine list for the Ravens to consider is Michigan Wolverines DL Kenneth Grant. And, of course, whenever you analyze a prospect who’s a Michigan man, you must consider the Harbaugh factor first and foremost.

Given that Jim Harbaugh, brother of Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, led the Wolverines program from 2015-2023, you know that he could potentially give his opinion on whether or not Grant would be a culture fit in Baltimore.

Grant was one of the many blue (or “maize and blue”) chip NFL Draft prospects on the 2023 Michigan national title team roster. The pipeline from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the NFL is strong, and according to a report in RG, the program is hoping to move one of its road games next season to an NFL venue. We could see up to four Wolverines go in the first round of this April’s draft.

Grant is in the top five, sometimes even top three, defensive tackles on most draft boards. Mason Graham, who lined up right next to him at U-M, typically tops this grouping. Additionally, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson and tight end Colston Loveland will likely join Graham and Grant as first-round selections.

While the defensive line isn’t the Ravens’ top priority in this draft, sometimes you might want to do the best player available over team needs. Especially so when you’re picking in the late 20s.

So, this could be a tremendous value-based pick in the short term and a needs-based decision in the longer term, as the Ravens’ defensive line is aging a bit. Michael Pierce is 32, and Brent Urban is 33.

The biggest upside to Grant, who had 32 tackles and three sacks this past season, is his speed and quickness. It seems almost unreal for a human being pushing 340 pounds to have both the closing speed and first step that Grant does.

The main knock on him, though, is his consistency. Grant’s scouting profile on 24/7 Sports points out that there is a vast disparity in how he produces overall, from play to play.

Ravens' Ben Cleveland was arrested for DUI

The Ravens are already dealing with the accusations surrounding Justin Tucker, and now free-agent offensive guard Ben Cleveland is in the news.

TMZ Sports reports that Cleveland was arrested last week on suspicions of a DUI.

According to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office documents we obtained, Cleveland was suspected of drunk driving in Milledgeville, Ga. on Feb. 12.

The docs state the 26-year-old — a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of the Univ. of Georgia — was pulled over at around 10:25 PM … after he had been swerving in a roadway. Cops wrote Cleveland was actually driving so erratically, he nearly steered his black Ford F-250 into a ditch.

According to the report Cleveland admitted to drinking “approximately 3-4 beers” at a nearby country club before getting behind the wheel. Cleveland failed at least one field sobriety test and his.178 on the test was more than double the legal limit of .08.

Cleveland reportedly was given two separate citations — one for DUI – alcohol and the other for failure to maintain lane.

2025 NFL draft: Ravens reload the trenches, add playmakers in new seven round mock

After a heartbreaking loss to the Bills, the Ravens’ 2025 NFL Draft spot is determined and set following their divisional playoff loss.

Baltimore will have the 27th overall pick in the first round, one spot ahead of the Detroit Lions and just behind the Los Angeles Rams. The Ravens have picked at No. 27 twice in franchise history, selecting wide receiver Rashod Bateman in 2021 and cornerback Jimmy Smith in 2011.

Baltimore’s offseason needs could include replacing Ronnie Stanley at left tackle, a cornerback to potentially replace Brandon Stephens, an offensive guard, and another wide receiver.

The Ravens and 31 other teams across the NFL are focused on 2025, and we’re less than a month away from the start of a new league year. For Baltimore, a team with Super Bowl aspirations still has star power at key positions but will look different after free agency and the 2025 NFL draft.

NFL free agency: Looking at the Ravens history with the franchise tag

The moment the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade was completed, the NFL world started to focus entirely on 2025 and the critical offseason that awaits.

As teams around the league prepare for the NFL scouting combine, the franchise tag window opened up on Tuesday and closes on March 4.

Any unrestricted free agent not tagged in that period can sign with any suitor when the new league year and free agency opens on March 12. (The negotiating period, when teams can reach out to agents of potential free agents to start talks, begins March 10).

Eight players were tagged last year, with all but Tee Higgins landing long-term extensions.

Brian Burns was traded to the Giants, and L’Jarius Sneed was traded to the Titans before both players signed massive deals.

With the salary cap soaring to $265-$275 million in 2025, teams will have plenty of money, but Baltimore will have to make key decisions about a handful of critical contributors.

Ronnie Stanley is the only free agent for the Ravens that fits such criteria.

How the NFL's new massive projected salary cap increase affects the Ravens

The Ravens have a ballpark number on a potential salary cap after teams were notified on Wednesday the expected salary cap range for the 2025 season would be $277 million to $281 million per team, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

With an official announcement looming, here’s how the salary cap number will impact the Baltimore Ravens.

NFL Draft: Could the Ravens trade up for an offensive tackle, edge rusher in Round 1?

The Ravens have the 27th pick in April’s NFL draft and could be looking to land an elite offensive tackle. Baltimore has pressing needs at the edge rusher and offensive tackle positions and must decide on Ronnie Stanley in free agency. Daniel Jeremiah is holding his first NFL draft-related conference call one week before the start of the Scouting Combine, and he was asked about Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta potentially trading up for an edge rusher.

Jeremiah stated that there’s a lot of depth at pass rusher and defensive tackle, and Baltimore can be patient and potentially look toward Round 2 for that need. Jeremiah thinks if the Ravens trade up, it’ll be for an elite offensive tackle.

Ravens promote Matt Robinson to outside linebackers coach

The NFL off-season is underway, and with the scouting combine just days away, the Ravens have announced the addition of several coaches to Head Coach John Harbaugh’s staff.

Matt Robinson was also promoted and moved up to coach the outside linebackers. Robinson will work alongside Pass Rush Coach Chuck Smith.

Robinson just completed his fourth season with the Ravens and first as assistant defensive line/outside linebackers coach. Robinson most recently served as a defensive quality control coach in 2023, working primarily with the defensive front after focusing on the defensive backs in 2022. He originally joined the Ravens in 2021 as a defensive coaching fellow. Before he arrived in Baltimore, Robinson coached for four seasons (2017-20) at the collegiate level, with Maryland (2019-20) and Connecticut (2017-18).
