PFF Grades: OL dominates 49ers as Rams get their revenge

Week 10 brought revenge served cold. The Los Angeles Rams got back at the San Francisco 49ers for stunning them at home. LA took a commanding lead early and never looked back.

The defense did enough to get the job done—forcing two turnovers. There will be tougher days at the office when the offense doesn’t put up six touchdowns and outpace the other team.

The offensive line dominated, kept Matthew Stafford clean, and opened up running lanes for Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. The Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades make this evident.

Top five grades on offense​

1 – Kevin Dotson, RG: 91.3​

It was clear during the game that Dotson was back to his normal self after battling an ankle injury in the season’s early going. Dotson was opening holes in the run game and asserting his presence down the field. PFF rewarded the veteran with a glowing 90.5 run blocking grade. Dotson was fine in pass protection at 76.4.

2 – Colby Parkinson, TE: 89.7​

Colby Parkinson was asked to stay in as a pass protector on seven plays, which is part of what facing the Rams difficult as they deploy their heavier personnel. At times you must cover all five eligibles, and on other occasions they are kept into block in order to push the ball downfield. Parkinson earned a 76.7 pass blocking grade and did not allow a pressure.

His more impressive contributions came as a receiver where he drew a mark of 92.2 and caught four of five targets for 41 yards and a touchdown. 27 of these yards came after the catch point.

Noteworthy is the fact Parkinson ran 20 routes, which was significantly more than Tyler Higbee (16), Davis Allen, and Terrance Ferguson (both at 13).

3 – Matthew Stafford, QB: 87.6​

There is not much to dislike about this performance from Stafford, who was excellent overall in two games against San Francisco. This performance is even better analytically than it looked on paper. The veteran finished with a traditional completion percentage of 66.7%; however, after accounting for two drops and three throwaways, this mark improves to 78.8%. There was a time late in the first half and into the early second half that the offense seemed disjointed, but the Rams started out red hot and re-found their spark later in the game.

PFF credited Stafford with two big-time throws and one turnover-worthy play. He found 20 first downs through the air and kept the chains moving.

TE Terrance Ferguson, among other assets, got flowers for his athletic testing and big plays on schemed plays at Oregon.

4 – Coleman Shelton, C: 87.2​

5 – Steve Avila, LG: 86.5​

Avila was the only lineman in the starting five to not allow a pressure in pass protection, though he oddly received the second-lowest pass blocking grade ahead of Alaric Jackson (three pressures).

Both Shelton and Avila earned their paychecks in the run game where they finished with near-elite grades from PFF at 90.3 and 86.9, respectively.

Other notes on offense​

At risk of sounding like a broken record, RT Rob Havenstein was the lowest graded member of the starting five offensive line. This has been the case for Havenstein for most of the season, and still true after he returned from injury. The jury is still out whether Warren McClendon would perform better as the full-time starter, though the 49ers don’t have enough talent on the EDGE to have made the Rams pay in this game.

Top five grades on defense​

1 – Jaylen McCollough, DB: 91.1​

McCollough only played 15 snaps, though he was excellent in coverage. He was targeted on four plays and allowed two receptions for 12 yards with a PBU.

2 – Quentin Lake, DB: 81.3​

One of the most active players on Sunday was Quentin Lake, who finished with nine solo tackles and three run stops. He did not miss a single tackle on 11 total opportunities.

In coverage Lake allowed five catches on as many targets for 44 yards, though he still finished with a positive grade in this facet of 75.8.

3 – Tyler Davis, DT: 81.2​

Davis drew a PFF run defense grade of 65.8 which is normally his bread and butter; however, he was on the field as a pass rusher more often in this game (16 to 10) and excelled in this role. Davis had the highest pass rushing grade on the entire Rams defense at 80.5 and pressured Mac Jones on three occasions. The second-year defensive lineman is hitting his stride.

4 – Byron Young, EDGE: 69.4​

On a day where the EDGE rushers were not as disruptive as we are used to, Young led the team with four pressures. Jones had a 2.83 second time to throw, which is not a figure that you’d expect to limit pressure. The Rams simply did not get home in this game.

Interesting enough, Young dropped into coverage 15 times and allowed three receptions for 17 yards. Josaiah Stewart was in coverage for six plays, Nick Hampton for four plays, Jared Verse on three. This was clearly part of the Rams’ plan to slow down Christian McCaffrey, and for the most part it worked.

5 – Kamren Kinchens, DB: 68.2​

Kinchens was not targeted in coverage. He missed a tackle, which lowered his overall grade. Most notable was his fumble recovery on a Nate Landman punch out, his second in as many weeks.

Kinchens played only 35 of 63 snaps. McCollough played 100% on passing plays. Lake played 13 snaps at deep safety.

Safety Kam Curl was the second-worst graded defender behind Nick Hampton (40.8) at 46.6. Curl was targeted four times in coverage, allowing four receptions for 48 yards and a long of 20. The veteran graded well in run defense, but he was seemingly playing outside of his comfort zone and the 49ers found success looking in his direction.

Nate Landman graded as the 11th player on the Rams defense at 60.0 overall. He also fared well against the run but was very porous in coverage. He allowed catches on all five targets for 71 yards, a touchdown, and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Darious Williams was credited with Mac Jones’ other passing score.

NFC playoff picture: Los Angeles Rams tied for first but lose tiebreaker to Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams are tied for the best record in the NFC, but they are still in the wild card race instead of first place thanks to a tiebreaker. The Rams will be playing to potentially vault all the way from fifth to first place in the NFC in Week 11.

By virtue of their 2-1 record in the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks are first place in the division. Los Angeles is 1-1 in the NFC West right now. The teams face each other in Week 11 in a matchup with huge implications. The Seahawks then lose a tiebreaker to the Eagles, who sit atop the perch of the NFC right now.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost in Week 10 to slip into fourth place.

After the Rams in the wild card race, the surprising Chicago Bears are sixth while the Green Bay Packers fall all the way from third to seventh with their Monday night loss.

The first team out is the San Francisco 49ers at 6-4.

The Rams and 49ers had the biggest game in the division this week with Los Angeles smoking San Francisco. The Seahawks won to stay in front of L.A. on a tiebreaker. The Arizona Cardinals were clobbered by the Seahawks.

Rams-Seahawks is matchup between two juggernauts

The Los Angeles Rams are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11 and it may be the most-anticipated game of the 2025 season up to this point. Over the past month, it feels as if these two teams were on a collision course and set to play each other in a heated NFC West battle. Both teams sit at 7-2 and winners of four straight. The winner of this game will take firm control of the division and potentially the NFC’s top seed over the back half of the season.

For as much as the rivalry between the Rams and San Francisco 49ers is talked about, the Seahawks have been right there. In 2010, the Rams and Seahawks battled in Week 17 for the NFC West crown and a spot in the playoffs. While the Rams were an average team at best under Jeff Fisher, they were 5-5 against the Seahawks, including winning four of five from 2014-2016.

The Rams beat the Seahawks in 2016 in their return to Los Angeles at the LA Memorial Coliseum. An injured Jared Goff led the Rams to a win in the NFC Wild Card round in 2020. An odd tiebreaker last season gave the Rams the NFC West title over the Seahawks.

An argument can be made that over the past 10 years, the Rams have played more important games against the Seahawks than they have the 49ers. It may not be considered the primary rivalry of the NFC West, but it is certainly a formidable one. This matchup on Sunday will only add to that.

Right now, these are arguably the two best teams in the NFL. Diante Lee from The Ringer ranked the Rams No. 1 and the Seahawks No. 2 in his power rankings. Said Lee,

“We’re past due for a high-stakes regular-season game. After slogging through some rough lineups early in the year, we’re being rewarded with Rams-Seahawks in Week 11, a game that will clarify the league’s hierarchy. Seattle’s defense has been excellent all season, physically dominating each opponent up front. If McVay finds a way to neutralize the Seahawks’ pass rush through his play calling, it will help him make the case that he’s the league’s best coach and establish his team as the NFC’s preeminent favorite.”

In NFL Network’s power rankings, this was flipped with the Seahawks No. 1 and Rams No. 2. While power rankings are meaningless in the NFL, it’s a good barometer for how good these teams are and how they are viewed. Many in the media consider these the best teams in the league.

That is certainly the case from an analytics perspective as well. FTN Fantasy has their team DVOA rankings. The Rams and Seahawks are the top two teams via DVOA. The Seahawks sit at No. 1 at 45.9 percent and are the ninth-best team in DVOA through nine games since 1978.

This will be the 13th game between the top two teams in DVOA since 2000. The Rams have been part of three of those games, losing to the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. As the No. 2 team in DVOA in 2018, the Rams beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 54-51. In the 12 games between the top two teams in DVOA since 2000, the series is evenly split 6-6.

It doesn’t just stop at DVOA. These are also the two highest-graded teams according to Pro Football Focus. The Rams are the top-graded team at 93.6 overall while the Seahawks are behind them at 92.9. The Detroit Lions are the only team with an overall grade higher than 90.

This game on Sunday feels less like a routine divisional matchup and more like a balance of power in the NFC. These are two teams playing their peak level of football at the same time with a chance to take early control over the second half of the season. A win would not just bolster the Rams’ playoff positioning, but solidify them as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Who will cover Jaxon Smith-Njigba?

This week’s game between the Rams and Seahawks will not only feature two of the leading candidates for MVP at quarterback, but also two of the leading candidates to win Offensive Player of the Year as a wide receiver. Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba has gained 1,041 yards in nine games, 210 more yards than second place Ja’Marr Chase, and Puka Nacua is third with 775 yards despite playing in one fewer contest because of an injury.

By most accounts, Puka and JSN are the two best receivers in the NFL in 2025. Nacua’s +60.8 EPA (estimated points added, per Next Gen Stats) leads all players. Smith-Njigba has a better chance to win OPOY over Jonathan Taylor than Puka largely because of playing in an additional game.

The biggest question may not be “Who is the better receiver?” but “Which team has the better chance of covering an elite receiver in Week 11?”

Who will cover Puka Nacua?​

Puka has lined up in a wide alignment on 123 of his 221 routes, followed by 74 routes from the slot and 23 routes from a tight alignment. For the most part, we can expect Puka to play outside and that means he may not face Devon Witherspoon or Seahawks rookie Nick Emmanwori as often as he could face Tariq Woolen and Josh Jobe.

Woolen has had an inconsistent career, to say the least, and last season he got “burned very badly” (to quote Will Ferrell in Austin Powers) when he faced the Rams for the first time:

Despite an interception, Woolen also gave up two touchdowns, including the game-winner in OT.

Woolen has played better as of late, but hasn’t faced the likes of Matthew Stafford, Puka, and Davante Adams.

Jobe is not as well known as Woolen but the former Alabama standout has had a better season. After missing Week 10’s 44-22 win over the Cardinals with injury, Jobe could return to the field this week. Jobe has held opposing QBs to a passer rating of 60.2 on 44 targets in his direction.

Jobe is a bit of an unknown, but to a degree so is Woolen. Some days Woolen can play like an All-Pro, others he is the one player opposing OCs and QBs will target because of his soft tackling and inconsistent coverage skills. As an elite athlete (like better than 99% of NFL players), Woolen is a threat to take anything to the house. But many QBs target him in the pass game and many OCs target him in the run game because of his inconsistency and lack of focus.

The nice thing about having two receivers like Nacua and Adams is that Stafford can choose when he wants to go after Woolen and when he doesn’t and he’ll always have a “WR1” to pick from.

But don’t sleep on Emmanwori.

The rookie second round pick out of South Carolina may be an even better athlete than Woolen and some are comparing him to Ravens safety/do-everything back Kyle Hamilton. The Seahawks traded up to get Emmanwori with the third pick of the second round and he should play a huge role in this huge game.

Emmanwori has played 167 snaps in the slot, 87 snaps as a linebacker, and 20 snaps as an edge player. He could go from covering Puka to covering Tyler Higbee one play after the next.

Witherspoon, the 5th overall pick in 2023, has split time between playing slot in base formation and outside when Seattle goes to 2 CBs. He hasn’t had a shutdown season and has missed more than half of the year with an injury, so perhaps at times Stafford will test Devon Witherspoon rather than going at Emmanwori or Woolen.

Who will cover Jaxon Smith-Njigba?​

After adding Cooper Kupp in free agency when the Rams opted to let him go, Seattle was able to move Smith-Njigba from a primary slot weapon to an outside threat. As noted earlier, the outcome has been rather insane with JSN on track to have the most productive season by a WR since…Cooper Kupp in 2021.

Smith-Njigba has lined wide on 170 routes compared to 45 in the slot. He’s averaging 18.9 yards per catch as an outside receiver, which is basically where all of his production has come from this year. That means that the Rams will be relying on Emmanuel Forbes, like Woolen, to continue his good streak and put his worst days in the past.

Forbes is exclusively an outside cornerback (2 snaps in the slot) and he has allowed 293 yards with 2 TD and 2 INT. That’s too many yards, but Forbes was near-perfect against the 49ers, allowing one catch for 14 yards on four targets and getting a pick to finish with a passer rating allowed of 2.1. The week before he had a passer rating allowed of 36.5 against the Saints. And in the two games before that: 60.4 and 39.6.

In other words, this is the cornerback who the Commanders thought they were getting in the first round in 2023.

Forbes has not faced a QB-WR duo as good as Sam Darnold and Smith-Njigba yet this season — just as Seattle hasn’t faced a QB as good as Stafford or a receiver as good as Puka — so this is the real test.

Cobie Durant could find himself on JSN too and he’s been less effective than Forbes but not “bad”. Durant has held teams to an average of 3 catches and 35 yards in the last five games with no touchdowns surrendered.

Slot defender Quentin Lake has allowed the most yards and catches on the Rams in the last five games, plus a touchdown, so this could be an area that Darnold focuses on this week. Look for the Seahawks to try attacking the middle of the field with Smith-Njigba on crossers, Kupp on the mesh route, and using their tight ends just as much as Sean McVay plans to use his own.

Who has the WR-CB advantage?​

So it could be Woolen, Jobe, and Witherspoon working on Puka and Adams, compared to Forbes, Durant, and Lake covering Smith-Njigba, Kupp, and recent addition Rashid Shaheed?

Tough to say who has the advantage there but both teams have top-5 run defenses, so we are about to find out.

Who is the Rams’ MVP at the midseason point?

The Los Angeles Rams are at the midseason point, having played the first nine games of the season. With 17 games, there isn’t necessarily a defined midseason point. However, nine games in and before the Rams enter an important stretch seems like as good as a place as any to split the season. The awards included here are all of the main NFL awards in addition to a few fun ones. Let’s jump right into it.

Midseason MVP: Matthew Stafford​

It should be no surprise that Matthew Stafford is the Rams’ MVP up to this point of the season. At 37 years old, Stafford is playing some of the best football of his career. The Rams offense ranks third in EPA per play and Stafford is a big reason for that. Through nine games, Stafford has thrown 25 touchdowns to two interceptions to go with 2400 yards passing. He led a fourth quarter comeback against the Indianapolis Colts and put the Rams in position to win both games that they’ve lost.

The Rams are 7-2 in large part because Stafford is playing the most efficient football of his career. He has the most big-time throws this season and is playing within the offense. For the first time in his career, it doesn’t feel as if Stafford is trying to do too much and force things that may not be available. There is much less hero-ball, but that doesn’t mean Stafford still isn’t doing the special things he’s capable of. He’s simply doing it within the offensive structure.

Midseason OPOY: Puka Nacua​

The last few weeks have certainly impacted the way Puka Nacua’s 2025 is viewed as well as by his injury. However, it’s important to remember that this is someone that was on pace to surpass Cooper Kupp’s receptions and yards from his triple crown season. When the Rams need a play, they go to Nacua. He is still the most important player in the offense. From Weeks 1-6, Nacua ranked second in yards per route at 3.54 while leading the NFL in receptions. Nacua was also second in first downs per route.

The level at which Matthew Stafford is playing right now for the Rams is next level. The best he's played since 2021.

It will be interesting to see how Nacua’s usage changes over the second half of the season when the Rams line up in 13 personnel. Most of the time, the wide receiver on the field has been Davante Adams or a speed guy like Xavier Smith or Konata Mumpfield. That may not be a bad thing though as the Rams look to keep Nacua fresh. Since the bye week, Nacua has only ran 44 routes and ranks 12th in receptions, but he is still efficient with over three yards per route.

Midseason DPOY: Nate Landman​

While it would be nice to put Jared Verse here, the answer is very clearly Nate Landman. An argument could also be made for Byron Young who leads the Rams in sacks. This isn’t to say that Verse has had a bad season, but Landman has been special. When the Rams defense has needed a play, Landman has been there to make it. It was his forced fumble that won the game for the Rams against the Houston Texans in Week 1. The Rams linebacker has three forced fumbles this season and all have seemingly come in a big moment.

The Rams are in a spot now where they historically don’t invest or pay linebackers. However, Landman has played his way into potential extension consideration through the first half of the season. Outside of the turnovers, he’s also been a major reason for the Rams improving against the run on defense this season.

Midseason Rookie of the Year: Josaiah Stewart​

The Rams haven’t necessarily had an impactful rookie class up to this point. Terrance Ferguson is starting to get involved while Jarquez Hunter is a weekly scratch. Ty Hamilton and Konata Mumpfield have been used in a light rotation. That leaves Josaiah Stewart, but that’s not necessarily only by default. Stewart has actually been pretty good this year as the third edge rusher behind Verse and Young.

Stewart has been good dropping into coverage in the role that Michael Hoecht played last year. Despite having the most coverage snaps among rookie edge rushers, Stewart has allowed just 4.5 yards per reception. It feels like it’s only a matter of time before he gets an interception or makes a big play.

Midseason Protector of the Year: Kevin Dotson​

The offensive line for the Rams has been a main talking point for much of the first half of the season. There were injuries to Steve Avila and Rob Havenstein while Coleman Shelton struggled at times at center. Alaric Jackson has been fine, but there may have been some rust after missing most of the offseason. Kevin Dotson has been the stable presence in the middle of the Rams offensive line.

Dotson will likely never get All Pro or Pro Bowl recognition. However, he ranks second among guards in run blocking and looks more comfortable in pass protection next to Rob Havenstein. An argument could be made for Steve Avila who has only allowed four pressures this year. For now, Dotson takes it.

Midseason Asst. Coach of the Year: Chris Shula​

Chris Shula deserves a lot of credit for how he has this defense playing. The Rams secondary was questioned all offseason and they lost their top cornerback, Ahkello Witherspoon, to injury. In response, Shula has schemed the Rams defense to take pressure off of the cornerbacks and put more focus on the safeties. Quentin Lake has developed into one of the better, more versatile safeties in the NFL.

At best, the Rams defense was seen as an average unit coming into the season and they currently rank inside the top-five. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Shula get serious head coaching looks this summer. Shula has the Rams defense playing very well and some of that is because of his scheme.

Midseason Best Offseason Addition: Poona Ford​

An argument could be made for Davante Adams who has been very difficult to defend in the red zone in recent weeks. However, it would be difficult to go through an exercise like this and not include Poona Ford. The focus for the Rams this offseason was done with the idea to defend better against the run. It was their downfall against the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs last season and it wasn’t going to happen again.

The Rams signed Ford to be a big body on their defensive line that could stop the run. He currently ranks fourth in run stop rate via PFF and third in run stop win rate via ESPN. The Rams as a defense rank fourth in EPA per rush and have given up the fourth-fewest yards before contact per attempt. A lot of that is because of Ford.

Midseason Surprise Player: Quentin Lake​

While Quentin Lake was an important piece of the Rams defense, it’s hard to say anybody expected this. Lake is playing at a Pro Bowl level right now and earning a big extension this offseason. The Rams have him playing all over their defense as if he’s Jalen Ramsey. Lake plays in the slot and in the box. He can also play as the deep safety as needed. The Rams safety has been one of the best slot defenders this season and is the eighth-highest graded safety via PFF.

Lake has gone from an important piece of the Rams defense to arguably the most important piece of the Rams defense. What Shula is able to do on the backend in the secondary is in large part because of Lake. He is a perfect fit in this scheme and the Rams defense is performing at a high level because of it.

Do Rams fans expect Stafford to retire if he wins it all?

Tom Brady recently told Matthew Stafford that he expects him to play for another eight seasons, matching the seven-time Super Bowl winners own absurd longevity when he retired at 45. Maybe that’s something that Stafford would consider and he’s playing as good as he ever has before, perhaps even better than he ever has before. But with Stafford openly questioning in recent years if he would retire soon, it’s not easy for any of us — or Tom Brady — to guess how much longer he will play in the NFL.

Who has coaching advantage between Sean McVay and Mike Macdonald?

Two of the best head coaches in the NFL for the 2025 season will be going head-to-head in Week 11 as the Los Angeles Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks. It will technically be the third meeting as head coaches between Sean McVay and Mike Macdonald. However, the Week 18 matchup last season certainly has an asterisk as the Rams played a majority of their backups in that game.

When it comes to great coaching matchups, McVay often gets brought up. Whether it’s McVay coaching against Kyle Shanahan or facing Vic Fangio on the opposite sideline, those are the games people tune in for and want to see. It’s a chess match between mentor and mentee or Superman against Lex Luthor.

The matchup on Sunday between McVay and Macdonald fits more into the latter category. McVay once again playing the role of Superman while Macdonald takes on the part of Brainiac.

In 2023, Macdonald’s defense was seen as the anti-McVay and anti-Shanahan. He was seen as “The Sean McVay of defense.” Macdonald’s defense with the Baltimore Ravens held the Ben Johnson-led Detroit Lions to six points. The Seahawks with a McVay disciple in Shane Waldron as the offensive play-caller were held to three points. After scoring 30 or more points four times over a six week stretch, Shanahan and the 49ers were held to 19 points in a loss. Brock Purdy threw four interceptions.

The one offensive coach in that schematic tree to find success was McVay. While the Rams lost 37-31 in overtime to the Ravens, Matthew Stafford had the quarterback performance of the year. He threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns in the rain. Kyren Williams rushed for 114 yards as Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua combined for 13 catches for 199 yards. The Rams still came up just short.

Last season, it was almost the exact opposite. As the Rams offense was starting to find its stride, they ran into Macdonald and the Seahawks. While the Rams won the game, 26-20 in overtime, the offense had seven three-and-outs. That had only happened in one previous game with McVay as the head coach.

Those are the only two times that McVay and Macdonald have really gone up against each other, as head coaches or head coach and coordinato, with best on best. Macdonald was with the Ravens from 2018-2020 which included the 45-6 blowout, but as the linebackers coach.

This will arguably be the biggest game that Mike Macdonald has been a part of as a head coach. Meanwhile, McVay has been in these games multiple times before. When the Rams were first part of a game this big, McVay lost 24-7 and was out-coached by a more experienced Mike Zimmer. The next time the two teams played in 2018, the Rams had one of their best offensive performances of the McVay era.

The game on Sunday feels a lot like that for Macdonald. That’s not to say that Macdonald has never coached in a big game. As a defensive coordinator with the Ravens he almost certainly did several times. However, it’s different as a head coach. It’s different facing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in Week 5 when both teams are 3-1 than a division rival with both teams at 7-2. While the 8-5 Seahawks played the 9-4 Green Bay Packers last season, a game against a divisional opponent with this much on the line is different.

Everything that Macdonald has done has been with the intent to stop the McVay offense. It’s done to make the offense uncomfortable and they are very good at it. This Seahawks defense has the early makings of a ‘Legion of Boom’ 2.0. In year two of the Macdonald defense, it is now a group that plays incredibly fast.

This will be a matchup between experience and adaptability. McVay has the experience which should benefit the Rams in this first meeting. At 37 and with 17 years in the NFL, there isn’t a defense that Matthew Stafford hasn’t seen. It wouldn’t be surprising to see these two teams split the series this season. In the second matchup is where Macdonald and his defense should have an advantage, especially with that game being on Thursday Night Football.

With how the Seahawks are currently playing under Macdonald, this appears to be a coaching matchup that we’re going to be seeing for at least the next five years. There’s going to be a lot of push and pull as these two great football minds challenge each other twice a year. Sunday will likely be just the first of many great matchups between the two of them.

Could Rams be without defensive star against Seahawks?

The Los Angeles Rams are heading into their biggest game of the season up to this point as they take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Both teams are 7-2 and will be looking to take control of the NFC West. With such big implications on the line, the Rams would ideally like to be as healthy as possible.

While the Rams should have most of their starters, defensive lineman Kobie Turner has popped up on the injury report this week. Turner didn’t practice on Wednesday with a back injury. Turner didn’t practice again on Thursday.

The Rams do have solid depth on the defensive line, but being without Turner would still be a big loss. When it comes to the interior defensive line, Turner is the more well-rounded player and more consistent pass rusher than Braden Fiske. Turner is a player that the Rams are able to play on all three downs. Turner ranks 13th in pressures this season and is one of the more experienced players in that group. While he hasn’t been as strong against the run in year three, he is a versatile piece that the Rams are able to move around the formation.

Also on the injury report for the Rams was Davante Adams is expected to play. Adams practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday. Jordan Whittington and Darious Williams were both limited. On the Seahawks’ side, Ernest Jones was limited for a second consecutive practice as was Grey Zabel. Cornerback Josh JObe appears t be on track to return to action.

This is certainly something to monitor into Friday as the Rams prepare for the Seahawks. Not practicing on Wednesday typically isn’t a good sign. However, if Turner is on the practice field on Friday even in a limited capacity, that would be seen as a positive.

Rams-Seahawks: What are your final score predictions?

The Los Angeles Rams (7-2) host the Seattle Seahawks (7-2) for the biggest NFC West matchup of the year in Week 11, and as both teams have looked phenomenal lately, only one team will be leaving victorious on Sunday. That team will be the Rams by a score of 28-20.

The Seahawks dismantled the Washington Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals in back-to-back weeks, so can they dismantle L.A.? Yes.

Am I picking the Rams because I think Sean McVay is a better overall coach than Mike Macdonald? Yes.

Am I taking into account that Sam Darnold is 0-2 in his last two games vs. the Rams? Yes.

How Seattle can win:​

Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He’s playing the best ball of his career and is arguably the best wide receiver in the league. If he and Sam Darnold are getting enough time to get after L.A.‘s secondary, they will be able to keep themselves in the contest. If they can stay in the game, they can win the game.

Fun yet meaningless narrative:​

Cooper Kupp may know some tricks about the Rams, and that could be said about Ernest Jones who played for both the Rams and Seattle as well, but the idea of a Kupp revenge game has to be scary for Rams’ fans, and should be fun for Seahawks’ fans.

Final Score Prediction:​

Rams 28, Seahawks 20

Winning factor(s):​

The Rams have the better coaching, the more prepared roster on offense and defense, Harrison Mevis continues to be a revelation on special teams, and the Rams do enough to win as Matthew Stafford continues to bolster his MVP talk.

Will this be Chase Blackburn’s last year with the Rams?

Another week, another Rams React! We’ve got three hot topics for you today, starting with Los Angeles Rams’ fans expecting Chase Blackburn to be fired by the end of the season, fans expecting Matthew Stafford to go for another year if he keeps up his hot pace, and closing with a majority of fans thinking the Rams are headed in the right direction.

First, do you expect Blackburn to be fired at the end of season? According to our information below, 79% of fans expect this to be Blackburn’s last year as the Rams’ special team’s coach.

Can Harrison Mevis lay down some thick kicks and save Blackburn’s job? Food for thought, what are the chances that Sean McVay tries to keep Blackburn, but moves him to another spot?

A big question, will Stafford retire at the end of this year? Only 29% of our surveyed fans expect that to be the case.

We truly don’t even know if Stafford has that answer. It’s a fair question though, and it’s fair to wonder that if Stafford keeps playing some of the best football of his career, and he feels up to it, why wouldn’t the gunslinger want to go for another round?

5 Keys to Victory: Can Rams take control of NFC West?

There is the saying that styles make fights and this Week 11 matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks is the ultimate clash of styles. These are two teams that were built to beat each other. When you look at the offensive side of the ball, many of the Rams’ strengths line up with what the Seahawks also do well. Some of the same can be said for when the Seahawks are going up against the Rams’ defense. Whoever wins this game is going to take early control of the NFC West.

In recent years, these are the games that the Rams have gotten up for. Matthew Stafford is 5-0 against the Seahawks since joining the Rams. Over the last two years, the Rams are 5-0 in NFC West games after October taking away a Week 18 loss in which they played backups. In the Sean McVay era outside of 2022, they are 17-1 after the month of November against NFC West opponents not named the 49ers. Last season, the Rams got back into the NFC West with a win against the 4-4 Seahawks. This is the biggest game of the NFL season up to this point. Here are five keys to victory.

1. Find Success in Run Game​

It’s going to be key on both sides of the ball for the Rams to have success on early downs. The Rams need to be able to get into a positive game script and avoid third-and-long. On the defensive side of the ball, winning on early downs will allow the Rams to get into the dime packages that they want to live in more than other teams. However, from an offensive perspective, that starts by finding success in the run game.

One of the more interesting matchups in this game is how the Seahawks will match the Rams in heavier tight end looks. The Seahawks match 12 and 13 personnel with their base defense at the lowest rate in the NFL. In fact, when facing sets that feature multiple tight ends, the Seahawks defense has matched with five or more defensive backs 75.3% of the time this season. A big reason they are able to do this is because of Nick Emmanwori’s skillset and Demarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams, and Jarran Reed are all fantastic against the run. Lawrence and Nwosu do a nice job setting the edge and forcing things inside where Reed and Lawrence eat space and get up-field.

When the Rams are in 12 or 13 personnel and they run against nickel, they have just a 52 percent success rate which ranks 16th. Against base, that improves to fourth at 54.7 percent. The Rams have to be able to find success in the run game against the Seahawks in nickel to get them into base. It’s a small sample size of just 12 plays, but the Seahawks rank 32nd in EPA per rush when defending 13 personnel. When the Seahawks are in base, they rank just 18th in EPA per rush.

The Rams need to have success running against the Seahawks in nickel to earn the right to get them in base. It’s what the Rams did last year. In Week 9 of last year, the Rams moved to more 12 personnel. The Seahawks initially matched in nickel, but then moved to base. On the touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson that won the game, the Rams were in 12 personnel and the Seahawks were in base. The Rams rank seventh in rushing success rate this season with Kyren Williams ranking first. Williams needs to take over this game on the ground.

2. Limit Explosives on Defense​

The Seahawks aren’t necessarily a boom or bust team, but a lot of their success comes from their ability to run play action and hit the deep shots off of that. On play-action passes, Sam Darnold’s average depth of target of 14.4 is first in the NFL by a wide margin. Ironically, Matthew Stafford is second at 10.1 yards. The gap between Darnold at one and Stafford at two is the same as Stafford at two and Tua Tagovailoa at 25. Darnold is going to hit the in-breakers and underneath stuff on early downs to set up play action passes down the field.

This season, the Seahawks offense leads the NFL in explosive pass rate at 22 percent. Meanwhile, the Rams defense is built to limit explosives. On the season, they rank sixth in explosive pass rate allowed. The Seahawks offense is operating at a historical rate and are going to have success. However, it’s more about what the Rams can do to limit the explosives and the damage off of them. This is a game that can be 14-0 very quickly and that is a game-script that the Rams can’t get into. They can’t allow this game to snowball. The cornerbacks are going to be tested on the outside and need to make plays on the ball.

3. Make Sam Darnold Uncomfortable​

This one should seem obvious, but the Rams have to be able to get pressure on Sam Darnold. That may be easier said than done as two of the Rams’ worst games when it comes to getting pressure have come against the San Francisco 49ers. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak comes from Shanahan’s coaching system.

A big reason why the Rams had success against Sam Darnold and the Vikings was because of their ability to get pressure. The Rams sacked Darnold nine times in the playoffs. In the Week 8 matchup, Darnold was sacked three times. A lot of that was from interior pressure. Olusegun Oluwatimi is a quality player to have as depth, but it’s rarely a good thing to be changing centers against a good pass rush. The Rams have to be able to get interior pressure on Darnold.

Darnold has been one of the least pressured quarterbacks this season. However, when he’s been under pressure, he averaged -0.45 EPA per dropback which ranks 22nd. That’s worse than Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix. Darnold has been pressured at the fourth-lowest rate. With that said, Darnold has been pressured at over a 30 percent rate in three games. The Seahawks have lost two of those.

This goes beyond just making Darnold uncomfortable inside the pocket. The Seahawks have not trailed since being down 6-0 to the Jacksonville Jaguars a month ago. This Seahawks offensive line as well as Darnold were not built to become a dropback passing team. If the Rams can flip the game-script and keep this game close or have a lead going into the fourth quarter, it’s another kind of pressure that Darnold hasn’t dealt with this season.

4. Play Opportunistic​

Playing opportunistic doesn’t mean playing reckless. At the same time, the Rams need to be ready to make a big play-call, make a play on the ball, and simply take the opportunity when it happens. The Seahawks lead the NFL in fumbles this season with nine. Nate Landman and the Rams defense leads the NFL with eight turnovers via fumble. Landman has become an expert of the ‘peanut punch’ and he may get his chance in this game for another one.

The Rams have been one of the best fourth-down teams in the NFL with a 73.3 percent conversion rate. This isn’t to say that Sean McVay should be reckless in this area, but given the Rams’ kicking game, if the offense faces fourth-and-short, that should be considered a ‘go’ situation. It is worth noting that the Seahawks rank second in the NFL in special teams DVOA and have been one of the better punt return teams as well.

Offensively, the Rams can’t live in empty, but on 32 dropbacks out of empty this season, they rank second in success rate and first in explosive plays. The Seahawks are 11th in success rate defending empty and 14th in explosives allowed. On defense, the Rams shouldn’t be too aggressive, but on 3rd-and-long, Darnold is just 9-for-15 against the blitz this season. Four of his six interceptions have come while being blitzed. Chris Shula will need to pick his spots.

5. Use ‘Eye-Candy’ with the tight ends​

This is a game in which the Rams should be able to continue utilizing the tight ends in the passing game. The Seahawks have allowed the sixth-most yards to tight ends this season and the second-most receptions. Below is how tight ends have performed against the Seahawks in 2025:

• Week 1 – George Kittle, 4 receptions, 25 yards, 1 touchdown
• Week 3 – Juwan Johnson, 6 receptions, 51 yards
• Week 4 – Trey McBride, 7 receptions, 52 yards
• Week 5 – Cade Otton, 4 receptions, 81 yards
• Week 7 – Dalton Schultz, 9 receptions, 98 yards
• Week 9 – Zach Ertz, 4 receptions, 46 yards
• Week 10 – Trey McBride, 9 receptions, 127 yards, 1 touchdown

While many of McBride’s yards last week came in garbage time, this is still a team that has given up a lot with the tight ends. As mentioned previously, the Rams should be able to get a step on Emmanwori with ‘eye-candy’. Emmanwori is extremely athletic, but is still processing what he’s seeing on the field. This could end up being a big Terrance Ferguson game. The Rams should also be able to get Davis Allen, Colby Parkinson, and Tyler Higbee involved in the passing game as well. This Seahawks defense plays very fast and using motion and forcing them to think more can slow them down just enough.

Counting down to the end of the college regular season and there are still 25+ teams with a chance to make the 12- seat college football championship bracket. How many Cinderella’s will get the invite? Or will it be just the one outsider amongst a bevy of SEC and Big10 teams?

#10 Notre Dame (7-2) @ #24 Pitt (7-2)​

9 a.m. PST on ABC

Eyes on: Both Notre Dame losses were of the last minute variety, so they’re still pressing for a Top 4 bid. The Irish use a deep rotation on defense, many are underclassmen, and all have draft grades. Senior ILB Drayk Bowen leads the youth, ILB Jaiden Ausberry (SO), S Adon Shuler (SO), E’s Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (SO) and Boubacar Traore (SO), and S Tae Johnson (FR). Pitt closes with three tough games, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Miami, but a sweep would give them an argument for Week 1 bye in the playoffs. Lose today and the Panthers are likely out of the playoffs.

South Florida (7-2) @ Navy (7-2)​

9 a.m. PST on ESPN2

Eyes on: South Florida is currently in the actual playoff bracket at #12, but must win. QB Byrum Brown (SR) is a sneaky good NFL prospect. On defense, ILB Mac Harris (SR) and CB Jarvis Lee (JR) are physical ballhawks and on the fringe of being drafted. Navy can replace the Bulls with the victory, QB Blake Horvath helms the option offense with over 2000 of total offense. Eli Heidenreich is the run/catch option.

#4 Alabama (8-1) @ #12 Oklahoma (7-2)​

12:30 p.m. PST on ABC

Eyes on: How ‘Bama’s offensive line holds up against Oklahoma’s ferocious defense. LT Kaydn Proctor (JR), LG Kam Dewberry (SR) and C Parker Brailsford (JR) all have draftable grades and it appears RG Jaeden Roberts (SR) has won back his spot. He was a pre-season early/mid prospect that struggled. Oklahoma is currently in at #11 of the playoff poll, but a third loss (even in the SEC) should kill their chances. One time top prospect QB John Mateer (JR) has struggled since a mid-season hand injury.

Iowa (6-3) @ #17 USC (7-2)​

12:30 p.m. PST on BIG10 Network

Eyes on: Iowa retains an outside shot at the playoffs (currently ranked #21), but needs to run the table vs. USC, Michigan State, and Nebraska to have a chance. They have four offensive linemen who have draftable grades, C Logan Wilson (SR), G’s Beau Stephens (SR) and Kade Pieper (SO), and T Gennings Dunker (SR). USC (currently ranked #17) is in the same boat, needing to run the table vs. Iowa, Oregon, and UCLA. The Trojans have four prospects that have early/mid draft grades, WR’s Makai Lemon (JR) and Ja’kobi Lane (JR) and S’s Kamari Ramsey (JR) and Bishop Fitzgerald (SR).

#5 Georgia (8-1) @ #10 Texas (7-2)​

4:30 p.m. PST on ABC

Eyes on: First-year starter, QB Gunner Stockton (JR) has put together a stellar season and is draft eligible, although he has garnered little draft buzz. The Bulldog defense has top prospects at every level, DT Christen Miller (JR), LB’s CJ Allen (JR) and Raylen Wilson (JR), and CB Daylan Everette (SR). Texas loses and they are out of playoff contention. A big effort by QB Arch Manning (SO) could re-kindle draft prospects, not only his, but all of UT’s offensive possibilities.

Other games with interesting prospects​

Arizona (6-3) @ Cincinnati (7-2) 9 a.m. PST on FS1

Eyes on: Under-sized Wildcat QB Noah Fifita (JR) is a threat running or throwing with 2200+ yards of total offense. Arizona boasts three draftable secondary players, S’s Dalton Johnson (SR) and Genesis Smith (JR), and CB Treydan Stukes (SR), Cincy must win to stay in the Big12 race.

#14 Virginia (8-2) @ Duke (5-4) 12:30 PST on ESPN2

Eyes on: Virginia is in the thick of ACC championship race. RB J’Mari Taylor (SR) is a run/catch threat. QB Chandler Morris (SR) throws to leading receiver Trell Harris (SR), with Cam Ross and Jahmal Endrine (SR) right behind. Duke can score with anybody behind QB Darian Mensah, RB Nate Sheppard (FR), and WR Cooper Barkate (SR). On defense, E Vincent Anthony (SR) and CB Chandler Rivers (SR) get draftable grades.

#15 Utah (7-2) @ Baylor (5-4) 4 p.m. on ESPN2

Eyes on: Utah hangs onto hopes of a Big12 Championship and berth in college playoffs, where they are currently ranked #13. The Utes have three offensive lineman prospects. mid/late C Jaren Kump (SR) joins two underclassmen, T’s Caleb Lomu (SO) and Spencer Fano (JR). Both are Top 10 pick possibilities. Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson is one of the leading NCAA passer’s and will be drafted. He throws to mid/late picks TE Micael Trigg (SR) and WR Josh Cameron (SR).

#12 BYU (8-1) @ TCU (6-3) 7:15 PST on ESPN

Eyes on: BYU must take care of business with three straight road games to close out the regular season and get into the Big12 Championship game and then onto the college football playoffs (currently in at #12). Of TCU’s three losses, two have come by late field goals. The ‘Toads have a handful of prospects led by QB Josh Hoover (JR) and S Bud Clark (SR).

Rams-Seahawks: Second half game thread

The Los Angeles Rams lead the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 14-9 after the first half of play. This has been a hard-fought game between two top teams in the NFC.

The game started with some excitement with the Rams driving down the field, but being stopped by Seattle on fourth down.

A few plays later and L.A.’s defense was picking off Sam Darnold, which led to the Rams capping off their second drive of the game with a Kyren Williams rushing score on fourth and goal. L.A. took a 7-0 after the successful extra point.

Seattle responded on their next drive with a field goal to get the game to 7-3.

On the Rams’ third drive, Williams rumbled for a long gain on another fourth and short, and the drive ended with Stafford finding Davante Adams for L.A.‘s second touchdown of the day and a 14-3 lead after the extra point.

Seattle would later add another field goal to their total to make the score 14-6 with about 9-minutes to go in the opening half.

Seattle later tacked on their third field goal of the day as the half came to an end with the Rams still leading, but with a score of 14-9.

Rams-Seahawks: 5 plays that decided the outcome

What a game. The Los Angeles Rams needed every bit of their defense to prevail in an NFC West clash against the Seattle Seahawks. Chris Shula’s defense forced four Sam Darnold interceptions and limited Seattle to field goals in key spots to grab the No. 1 seed in the NFC Conference going into Sunday Night Football. After the first quarter, LA looked poised to pour it on but Seattle’s defense kept them in the game. What allowed the Rams to win? Here are the 5 game changing plays in LA’s Week 11 win.

1a. Kam Kinchens first interception, (Rams 0 – Seahawks 0), 10:59 left in 1st Quarter

After taking the opening kickoff and driving all the way down to the SEA 8 yard line, the Rams offense stalled out. Seattle’s defense forced the turnover on downs after a Matthew Stafford incomplete pass. But three plays later, on 1st & 10 from the SEA 21, Sam Darnold threw off his back foot while fading to his left. Kam Kinchens came crashing down from his safety spot to snare the errant throw.

After Kinchens ran the ball back to the 3 yard line, the Rams were in prime position to score. However, Seattle’s defense proved stout against the run when the Rams lined up in 13 personnel at the goal line. Sean McVay elected to keep his foot on the gas; electing to go for it on 4th & 1. This time he lined up in 11 personnel in shotgun formation only to handoff one more time to Kyren Williams. Williams was able to hit paydirt behind his center and guards for the first touchdown of the game.

2. Kyren Williams breaks huge run on 4th & 1, (Rams 7 – Seahawks 0), 1:41 left in the 1st Quarter

After a Jason Myers field goal chipped into the Rams lead. LA marched down field again. After failing to convert on 3rd & 1 to Davante Adams, McVay dialed up another 4th down play call. Not only did Kyren Williams pick up the first down but he put the Rams offense inside the Seattle 5 yard line.

The Rams offense began to sputter after the first quarter and they couldn’t find their footing in the 2nd half. The LA defense came up clutch yet again intercepting Sam Darnold on 1st & 20 while targeting Arroyo over the middle.

4. Colby Parkinson scores against former team, (Rams 21 – Seahawks 12), 14:15 left in 4th Quarter

On the play before, Kyren Williams converted a crucial 3rd & 1 to keep the drive alive. Then, on play action, Stafford found Parkinson to give Los Angeles its third touchdown in four red zone trips.

5. Ethan Evans booms 50 yard punt down to the SEA 1, (Rams 21 – Seahawks 19), 1:50 left in 4th Quarter

Ethan Evans punt might have been the play of the game despite the Rams four interceptions on defense. Matthew Stafford and the offense could not run out the clock and were forced to punt the ball back to Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offense. Evans delivered the biggest punt of his career; dropping a beauty at the 1 yard line. The special teams play was significant in helping the defense preserve field position and run out the game clock. Had the Seahawks been able to start the drive at the 20 yard line, SEA could have been able to have an easier field goal opportunity had it been a touchback.

Rams Rookie QB Watch: Theme of inconsistency continues

If there is one consistent theme about this quarterback class, it is that it’s been inconsistent. It’s why it’s important to look at the full picture and no just one game or one play samples. Is there a player available with the desired skill sets who can be coached up and develop into a team’s offensive system? It’s also worth noting how competitive this season in college football has been. The SEC is extremely competitive at the top with six teams having two or fewer losses. Additionally, the Big Ten has two undefeated teams in Indiana and Ohio State. It’s not as easy for quarterbacks and teams to dominate every single week. It’s more important than ever to be able to separate the good from the bad and understand which of the bad can be improved.

As it stands, the Los Angeles Rams would have the seventh overall pick. With the injuries to Michael Penix and Drake London, it is a realistic possibility that the Rams end up with a top-five pick. If that is the case and given how difficult it is to find quality quarterbacks outside of the top-five, the quarterback discussion becomes very interesting.

1. Dante Moore, Oregon​

Following a game in difficult conditions last week, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore bounced back in a big way against Minnesota. It may have only been Minnesota, but Moore was nearly flawless and showed off his ability to layer throws to different levels of the field. Moore finished 27-for-30 for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Moore isn’t mobile, but he is mobile enough to extend plays and athletic enough to throw off-platform.

While playing at Iowa is never easy, we haven’t seen Moore against a quality opponent since taking on Penn State almost two months ago. Oregon will play USC on Saturday in what should be a good game. After that, it will come down to how Moore plays in the College Football Playoff if Oregon makes it. Moore would be a strong fit in a McVay-style offense. Additionally, he is only 20 and turns 21 in May after the draft. Even if he were to sit for 2-3 years, he’d only be 23 when his time comes to start.

2. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana​

After last week, Fernando Mendoza very likely ended the QB1 discussion. He will be the consensus top-rated quarterback on most big boards in the spring. At this rate, Mendoza may be the favorite for the number one overall pick. There’s no doubt that Mendoza struggled last week before leading a game-winning touchdown drive. At home against Wisconsin, he went 22-for-24 for 299 yards and four touchdowns.

Mendoza has risen to the occasion at every step this season. He has been the most consistent of the quarterbacks and shown continued growth. Indiana has a bye week before finishing the season against Purdue. After that, it will be a highly anticipated Big Ten title game against Ohio State.

3. Jayden Maiava, USC​

The most underrated quarterback in the country right now might be Jayden Maiava from USC. Maiava has 25 starts and leads the nation in yards, QBR, and total touchdowns. He’ll finish the year with at least 27 starts and more if USC makes the College Football Playoff. Maiava has size at 6’4, 230-pounds. While he has the athleticism to use his legs, he plays well from the pocket.

This is the Dak Prescott of this quarterback class and he will hit many of the Bill Parcells quarterback rules. USC trailed by double digits in this game and Maiava led a comeback, leading the go-ahead touchdown drive early in the fourth quarter. He finished 23-for-32 for 254 yards and a touchdown. With Lincoln Riley as USC’s head coach and his relationship with McVay, it wouldn’t be surprising if this is someone that the Rams are watching closely.

4. Ty Simpson, Alabama​

Simpson didn’t play as well as some would have liked him to on Saturday against Oklahoma. That still doesn’t take away from what Simpson did in the two months prior. Simpson was on a heater, playing seven weeks of really good football against rosters filled with NFL talent. His game against a good Oklahoma defense was his first bad game of the season. He also still had some strong moments in the loss.

There are some things that Simpson needs to clean up. He had another fumble which makes it five games straight. Those mistakes will drive coaches crazy. Following a pick six, Simpson led a scoring drive and responded well. Where I would have liked to see more from Simpson is at the end of the game. It would have been a long drive, starting at his own six. However, needing just three points, it would have been nice to see him lead a game-winning drive. Unlike last week when Mendoza got sacked, Simpson was unable to recover.

5. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina​

A lot will be made about how South Carolina blew a 30-3 lead to Texas A&M. With that said, it’s important to contextualize Sellers’ situation. While he was inconsistent in this game, Sellers also showed why he’s one of the more talented quarterbacks in the nation and has the traits worth betting on. That’s not to say he’s a perfect prospect, but this is also a quarterback that’s dealt with offensive line issues, wide receivers dropping passes, and his offensive coordinator and head coach getting fired. Not many quarterbacks would look playable in that situation.

Sellers has developed some bad habits and too often tries to play hero-ball. That doesn’t mean he still isn’t a first-round talent who can be developed with an NFL coaching staff. It’s been said in recent weeks, but Sellers would probably be best serverd transferring and going back to school for one more year.

LaNorris Sellers’ ability to generate big plays is his calling card as a prospect right now. Dynamic runner, capable touch thrower in the deep third. Nice step-up here.

HM: John Mateer, Oklahoma​

The winning quarterback from the Alabama-Oklahoma game was John Mateer. Against another quality opponent, he struggled throwing the ball. Mateer was just 15-for-23 for 138 yards. Mateer did have a rushing touchdown in this game, but Mateer certainly benefitted from having a strong defense. The Oklahoma quarterback hasn’t been the same since suffering the hand injury, but his limitations as a passer have crept up recently. That doesn’t mean that Mateer can’t be a good quarterback. However, right now, he may be more of a third-round player. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Mateer return to school for another season at this point.

NFC playoff picture: Los Angeles Rams take control of NFC West with win

The Los Angeles Rams took control of the NFC West with a huge win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The two teams swapped spots in the playoff race, with the Rams moving up to second and the Seahawks dropping to fifth.

The Rams held the top spot in the NFC for a few hours on Sunday afternoon until the Philadelphia Eagles won on Sunday night. Philly and L.A. are tied in overall record, but the Eagles beat the Rams so Philadelphia holds the top spot right now.

The Chicago Bears won and the Detroit Lions lost, so the Bears are now the NFC North leader at 7-3, one game back of the Rams.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost in Week 11 but remain in fourth place.

The Green Bay packers are 6-3-1 and followed closely by the 7-4 San Francisco 49ers.

The first team out is the aforementioned Lions, who are 6-4 knocking on the door. The Carolina Panthers are one game out of the playoffs right now.

The New Orleans Saints are on the bye this week.

The Dallas Cowboys play on Monday night, but their outcome won’t impact the NFC playoff picture.

Rams Film Review: Chris Shula puts on masterclass

The Los Angeles Rams did the thing that very few expected in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks. With their cornerback group, they held one of the best offenses in the NFL to fewer than 20 points for the first time since Week 1 and held them to one touchdown after going 1-for-4 in the red zone. It was a masterclass from defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

While turnovers can certainly be fluky with a high level of variance and luck involved, there was nothing lucky about what happened on Sunday. Shula took aspects of what worked against quarterback Sam Darnold in the NFC Wild Card game from last season and applied them to Sunday’s game.

A majority of the nine sacks that the Rams had in that game came as a result of interior pressure. Darnold simply didn’t handle the interior pressure well and the Rams defense was able to create negative plays. That game seemed to be in Darnold’s head as he did everything he could to avoid taking a sack against the Rams on Sunday when that may have been the better decision.

It may not have seemed like it during the game, but the Rams defensive line created impact pressures, resulting in negative plays in different ways. It’s easy to look at the stat sheet and see a zero in the stats column. However, instead of sacks, the Rams were getting interceptions. As a defense, you take the turnover 10 out of 10 times.

On the first interception, Tyler Davis walks backup center Olusegun Oluwatimi into Darnold’s lap. The pressure forces Darnold to hold on to the ball for a tick longer than he should. Darnold then throws late over the middle off of his back foot and Kam Kinchens gets the interception.

A lot has been made about how the Rams defensive line has disappeared in recent weeks. Against the Seahawks, many of the impact plays were a result of the defensive line impacting the play. They got to Darnold 13 times on Sunday which was tied for the second-most in a game this season. Seven of those pressures came from Jared Verse who was tied with Myles Garrett for the most pressures in Week 11.

This isn’t to say that sacks aren’t important, but there is also a high level of variance and some luck involved. We need to look at this Rams defense in a different way. How they create pressure on the quarterback can be just as impactful as a sack. On Darnold’s fourth interception, Poona Ford loops around Kobie Turner on a stunt. This could have been a sack for Kinchens, but Darnold tries to do too much with a jump pass and the result is a turnover.

That doesn’t even mention the second interception by Cobie Durant which was very similar to his interception on Darnold last season in the playoffs. Kinchens’ second interception is a high IQ play in which the Rams safety baits Darnold by turning his hips towards the sideline as if he’s going to help over the top. Omar Speights also does well carrying Elijah Arroyo vertically and Kinchens gets his second interception.

The pressures didn’t just create turnovers. They were also aƒ major reason that the Seahawks went 1-for-4 in the red zone and had to settle for field goals. On two of the three failed third down conversions, the Rams defense generated pressure.

It’s easy to say that Darnold blew this game for the Seahawks with his four interceptions. However, that also completely dismisses the Rams defense and the part that they played in that. Darnold wasn’t throwing bad interceptions in a clean pocket. When pressured, Darnold was 5-for-12 for 34 yards and three interceptions. Back in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he was 9-for-13 for 123 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Shula put on a masterclass schematically on Sunday against the Seahawks and knew exactly how to go after Darnold. It’s a testament to his ability to put together a one-off game plan when needed. He also showed good awareness and situational football. On the final play with five seconds remaining, Shula understands that the Seahawks can’t run the ball and it has to be a quick pass. Instead of rushing three and dropping eight, Shula drops all 11 players into coverage.

The defensive linemen dropping took away the immediate throws. Darnold’s first read is to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Braden Fiske took away the throwing lane. The players over the top also created a shell to limit an explosive play. The only throw available was the one that the Seahawks hit. It was a game-winning call. While Jason Myers’ kick went wide right, it was also short.

This is why Rams DC Chris Shula is going to be a HC…Just good situational football.

On a day in which the Rams offense didn’t perform and missed opportunities, it was Shula and the defense that stepped up. Shula’s ability to get the most out of this group and play good situational football is a reason why he’ll get head coach consideration this offseason.

Rob Havenstein…it’s time​

Prior to Rob Havenstein returning to the lineup following the bye week, I wrote that the Rams needed to make the tough decision and stick with Warren McClendon. While it wasn’t a surprise, the Rams went back to Havenstein who has played the last three games. Now, it’s difficult to make a switch as the Rams offensive line has chemistry even though the better player may be on the bench.

It’s true that the Seahawks have one of the better pass rushes in the NFL this season, but it was a rough outing for Havenstein. He allowed three pressures and had a pass-blocking grade of 19.9 via PFF. The Rams’ motto this season has been to take the higher floor. However, it’s fair to question how high Havenstein’s floor is currently. Since returning, Havenstein ranks 53rd out of 55 tackles in pass protection. He’s still fine in the run game, ranking inside the top-25. But is that enough to warrant playing over McClendon? It’s hard to make a switch now, but it may be better in the long run.

Can we believe in Emmanuel Forbes yet?​

Over the last month, Emmanuel Forbes has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. With that said, there was some context to that as the Rams had played Cooper Rush, Trevor Lawrence, Tyler Shough, and Mac Jones. Sunday was Forbes’ first big test since early in the season and he delivered. According to NextGen Stats, Forbes matched up against Smith-Njigba 20 times. Against Forbes, Smith-Njigba caught 3 of 5 targets for 30 yards for 1.5 yards per matchup. That was a season-low for the Seahawks wide receiver against a single player this season.

Forbes was targeted in the end zone twice in this game. On the first, he played tight against Smith-Njigba and the ball sailed out of bounds. Later in the game, Forbes lined up across from Rashid Shaheed and had the best pass breakup of the afternoon, saving a touchdown. Over the last four games, Forbes’ 35.1 passer rating allowed is the best in the NFL.

This was such a big play from Rams CB Emmanuel Forbes. Tight coverage. No safety help. Forbes uses his length to get the PBU and saves a TD.

Take a bow Ethan Evans​

It’s not often that we talk about special teams, let alone a single punt. With that said, it’s not often that a team wins because of a punt. The last time this may have been the case was Johnny Hekker sending a bomb of a punt for the Rams to beat the Jets, 9-6, in 2016.

However, the Rams do not win this game on Sunday without this punt from Ethan Evans. If this lands at the 15-yard line or goes into the end zone, the Rams probably lose. Pinning the Seahawks inside their own one-yard line made the task extremely difficult even with as much time as they had on the clock. Evans has six punts pinned inside the 20 this season which is tied for the fourth-most. He’s also PFF’s fourth-highest graded punter. For as much as the Rams have struggled on special teams, Evans has been a standout.

This might be the single greatest punt of all time.

How will Rams replace Quentin Lake?

The Los Angeles Rams will be without one of the best players on their defense as safety Quentin Lake is set to miss at least a few weeks in a best-case scenario. There hasn’t been an official diagnosis on Lake, but Rams head coach Sean McVay noted on Monday that he thought, “it might be a little bit of time for him.”

At the very least, Lake could miss an important stretch of the Rams’ season. However, being out for the year also isn’t out of the question. Per Adam Grosbard of the LA Daily News, Lake and the Rams have been consulting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache who is an LA-based surgeon, specializing in knee, shoulder, and elbow injuries. Lake may be able to avoid surgery, but it’s something that is seemingly being discussed.

Lake’s absence isn’t something that can just be dismissed. The NFL is all about ‘next man up’, but every player is not easily replaceable. Prior to the injury, Lake had played in all 634 of the Rams’ defensive snaps. He was the only defensive player to have played every single snap this season. As McVay said,

“You don’t replace a Quentin Lake. He’s so valuable for so many reasons with what he can do, with who he is as a human, with the way that he elevates and leads. He is a glue guy for us. I think it would be insincere to think that you’re going to ask somebody to do the things that he’s capable of. It’s what makes him so special.”

While Lake is going to be difficult to replace, it’s also not impossible. Ironically, the move that the Rams made at the trade deadline may end up being one that saves their season. When the Rams traded for Roger McCreary at the trade deadline, it was thought that they might use him to expand Lake’s role rather than use him exclusively in the slot.

Since being traded to the Rams, McCreary has played exclusively on special teams and has yet to take a defensive snap. With Lake hurt, that could change. When McCreary was brought in, the move was somewhat confusing as he was primarily a slot defender which was where Lake thrived. However, with Lake injured, McCreary could step into that role.

Still, it’s very possible that the Rams stick with familiarity as McCreary continues to get accustomed to the defense. With Lake out, Cobie Durant played his most snaps from the slot this season. It was only 10 snaps, but he had played two snaps from the slot in the previous nine games combined.

Additionally, the Rams may look to insert Josh Wallace into that role. The former undrafted free agent cornerback from Michigan has transitioned more to safety this year. Wallace played 19 snaps as a free safety in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s also where he primarily played in the preseason. With Lake out, Wallace played 20 snaps, which included 20 from the slot.

Durant may be the better player, but his size limits the physicality required to play the STAR role in the defense consistently. With how Durant is playing this season, it also may not make sense to significantly change what he’s doing. The Rams have specifically trained Wallace in the star role and may be a better fit there in the short term.

While it’s disappointing that Lake is going to miss time given the season that he’s had, the Rams will have options. The Rams traded for McCreary with the idea that he could play this role. Durant and Wallace bring experience and familiarity with the defense. Hopefully the Rams can get Lake back for the stretch run at the end of the season. However, until then, they should have the depth to get by.

Rams rule three starters out for at the least next four games

The Los Angeles Rams have placed three starters on injured reserve, guaranteeing they will miss the next four games: DB Quentin Lake, TE Tyler Higbee, and RT Rob Havenstein.

The Rams have put RT Rob Havenstein, TE Tyler Higbee and S Quentin Lake on IR. Sean McVay said that hope is they will be able to return at some point.

Havenstein has struggled this season and previously missed a stint of three games. Warren McClendon filled in for the veteran and performed at or above the level we are accustomed to seeing from Havenstein this year. Could the Rams upgrade at right tackle with Havenstein out, and did the injury make a difficult decision for the Rams easier?

Higbee’s injury likely creates challenges for the Rams’ usage of heavier personnel, as they’ve often deployed packages that utilize two and three tight ends with increased frequency this season. Terrance Ferguson, Davis Allen, and Colby Parkinson are currently on the roster, though the Rams could elevate Mark Redman or Nick Muse from the practice squad to add to the room.

While all three injuries are notable, perhaps the greatest loss is Lake. He played every defensive snap in the team’s first nine games before injuring his elbow last week versus the Seattle Seahawks. Lake is a defensive captain and is capable of handling defensive signal calling. In terms of options for replacement, the Rams recently acquired CB Roger McCreary from the Tennessee Titans—who has inside/outside versatility—and CB Josh Wallace primarily filled in for Lake in Week 11 against Seattle.

These are three sizeable losses for the Rams. Even if Higbee and Havenstein were not playing at career high levels, they are still starters and veteran leaders within the locker room.

Week 12 NFL picks: Will Rams take over No. 1 seed in NFC?

Each week, ten correct picks seems to be my cap. I’m hoping to go on a run here as we enter the colder portion of the NFL season. The NFC standings will be interesting watch as we enter the last month and a half. The Los Angeles Rams have seized sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Now, their eyes are set on grabbing the No. 1 seed from the Philadelphia Eagles. Will the Rams get a win in primetime versus the Buccaneers? Will Philadelphia lose in Dallas? Here are my Week 12 game picks.

(Thursday) Buffalo Bills @ Houston Texans, 8:15 PM EST

The Bills offense compiled 414 yards of offense against the Buccaneers and a significant portion of that came off the arm of Josh Allen. Houston’s defense is going to be stingier but Stroud has already been ruled out.

Pick: Bills 24-12

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Chicago Bears, 1:00 PM EST

Aaron Rodgers left Week 11 with a wrist injury which was later diagnosed as a fracture that will not require surgery. Mason Rudolph served as the replacement. I figure that Pittsburgh will give Aaron Rodgers an extra week before reinserting him in the lineup. Give me da Bears…

I doubt the Bengals bring back Joe Burrow if Ja’Marr Chase is serving a one game suspension. Mike Vrabel’s balanced team: Drake Maye, Tre’Veyon Henderson, and a top 15 defense.

New York Giants @ Detroit Lions, 1:00 PM EST

After getting suffocated by the Eagles defense on Sunday Night Football, the Lions get a cupcake matchup with the Giants coming to Detroit. The Giants pass rush might rattle Goff early but I think the Lions will rely on the ground game.

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers, 1:00 PM EST

The Green Bay Packers offense is tough to watch. Their wide receivers drop passes. Jordan Love tries to create too much and throws off his backfoot; leading to dangerous throws. With Minnesota falling out of the playoff picture, I’m going to trust Green Bay one more time at home.

Seattle Seahawks @ Tennessee Titans, 1:00 PM EST

After coming down to the wire in Los Angeles, Seattle will get a bounce back win against Tennessee with the ‘Hawks define suffocating Cam Ward and a weak offensive line.

Indianapolis Colts @ Kansas City Chiefs, 1:00 PM EST

The Colts have an opportunity to deliver a knockout punch to Chiefs who are currently in 9th place in the AFC standings. The Chiefs are not closing out games like they use to when they were back-to-back Super Bowl Champions. I’m factoring the Colts not looking themselves when they played at Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. The cold of Kansas City could be a factor here.

New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens, 1:00 PM EST

The Ravens did not play great against a 2-8 Cleveland Browns team as Lamar Jackson was sacked five times. The New York Jets don’t have Myles Garrett and Sauce Gardner so Lamar will get back on track.

Pick: Ravens win 27-17

Cleveland Browns @ Las Vegas Raiders, 4:05 PM EST

The Raiders are really bad. Which is awesome because Tom Brady is associated with the franchise. Browns get a win on the road and Myles Garrett gets two more sacks nearing the record.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Arizona Cardinals, 4:05 PM EST

Which Jacksonville Jaguars team is going to show up this week? The one that blows out the Chargers or plays down to their opponent.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 PM EST

I am very tempted to pick the Cowboys this week with their defense, maybe finding more stability with Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson. Lane Johnson might be out for this game too. The Cowboys offense has the ability to test the Eagles defense with Dak Prescott, George Pickens, and Cee Dee Lamb.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints, 4:25 PM EST

The Falcons are in free-fall mode and the Saints may take advantage. Michael Pennix Jr. is headed to Injured Reserve and Drake London is week-to-week with a knee injury.

Wild: The 8-2 Rams currently own the #8 pick in the 2026 draft thanks to their trade with the Falcons this offseason.

The Falcons are now without Michael Penix for the rest of the season, which could cause the pick to continue rising.

The NFC South leading Bucs head to SoFi Stadium for a Week 12 primetime game against the Rams. This will be Baker’s first time facing the Rams since he suited up for the team in 2022.

The Rams are just so lethal with the ability to win with the offense or defense. Last week, the defense took the baton and provided a huge divisional win. This week, I envision the offense getting back on track after encountering some resistance with Seattle’s stout defense.

(Monday Night Football) Carolina Panthers @ San Francisco 49ers, 8:15 PM

The Christian McCaffrey game. I have to believe Kyle Shanahan will ensure that McCaffrey sees a large volume of touches in a Monday Night game against McCaffrey’s former team.
