Oh man, where do I even start with all this? The Crosby situation has me feeling some type of way. Look, I LOVE Maxx - dude has been the heart and soul of this defense for years. But if he genuinely wants out and doesn't want to suffer through another rebuild, I can't blame him. We've put that man through HELL with some of these rosters.

Getting two firsts for him would be solid, but I'm greedy - I want MORE than what Dallas got for Parsons. Crosby has been more consistent and plays the run way better. If New England wants him that bad and Vrabel is whispering sweet nothings in his ear, make them PAY.

As for your DC question Zedster - I'm actually torn on this one. My gut says go with Schwartz. Having a first-time HC in Kubiak paired with a green DC sounds like a recipe for disaster when things get tough. Schwartz has been through the wars, knows how to handle adversity, and that Cleveland defense was legitimately good despite all the QB drama.

That said, if Kubiak has a specific guy he's worked with before and trusts completely, chemistry matters too. But given the choice between Schwartz and some up-and-comer? Give me the experience every time.

The Spillane and Drake Thomas stuff hurts to read though. We literally had these guys and let them walk for nothing while our linebacker room has been a dumpster fire. That's the kind of evaluation failure that sets franchises back. Hopefully whoever Kubiak brings in can actually identify talent and KEEP it.

Go Hawks Sunday! Let's get our future HC a ring!

Klint Kubiak can unleash Brock Bowers even more

Have you seen that Nike commercial with the late Kobe Bryant and Kanye West?

If you haven’t, no worries. That basketball commercial was a play on Bryant’s mamba mentality where he sought more from Kanye.

“But are you a different animal and the same beast?,” Bryant asks. That “more successful and more records” uttered in a humorous and serious tone in that ad is pitch perfect for the upcoming wind of change for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Enter Klint Kubiak.

The impending new head coach is set to dial up the plays as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday in a Super Bowl LX matchup against the New England Patriots. And when the 38-year-old Kubiak inks a contract with the Raiders after the big game, tight end Brock Bowers will be a major benefactor.

Kubiak has never called plays for a tight end with elite skillset that Bowers brings to the table. Add into the fact that the incoming coach is a creative and deceptive play caller, Kubiak has the ability to unleash Bowers even more.

What a nightmare that’ll be for opposing defenses. Teams already have issues covering the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Bowers in his first two seasons in the NFL, and these are years where Las Vegas ranked dead last in points scored and yards gained in 2025 and 29th and 27th in both categories in 2024. Our Tristian Kuhn broke down notable Raiders who fit Kubiak’s scheme this past weekend, do check that out if you haven’t.

What makes Brock Bowers so special?

Well, he plays pretty much everything!

Check out this play he ran for the TD against Jacksonville, he is unbelievable! https://t.co/MDjAElN5zl pic.twitter.com/2W8zgpsYTl

— Jon Gruden (@BarstoolGruden) November 6, 2025

Bringing in Kubiak to captain the ship and impart his offensive mindset onto the team portends to better firepower and production overall for Las Vegas. The team not only was the caboose of the entire NFL in points scored and yards gained, the Silver & Black ground game ranked 32nd. There was no team worse than the Raiders in running the ball and the team sports the 28th ranking in passing.

In Kubiak’s tenure as the Seahawks play caller, Seattle ranked third in points scored, eighth in yards gained while the pass attacking ranked eighth in yards gained and the ground game 10th in the same category. Granted, that was done with a meticulously crafted and talented roster assembled by Seahawks general manager John Schneider — who confirmed his offensive coordinator is Las Vegas-bound on Super Bowl 60 press row — and the difference in builds in the Great Northwest and in the desert are stark comparisons.

That said, the Raiders are not without ample resources — the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft, projected cap space of $90 million — and talent — Bowers, running back Ashton Jeanty, defensive end Maxx Crosby. General manager John Spytek and Kubiak will combine for (yet another) Raider rebuild. While it’d be nice for Kubiak to come in like gangbusters and course correct in Year 1, even slight improvement offensively would be a boon — that’s how bad things were this past season.

And as ridiculous of a notion it may seem, Bowers, the team’s premiere tight end, can ascend to a different level in Kubiak’s offense. This is due to the coach showcasing the ability to put play makers all over the field and not at their traditional spots, like wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. In the NFC Championship game, we bore witness to Kubiak putting the explosive wideout in the backfield and that allowed the Seahawks to manipulate the Los Angeles Rams defense. In Bowers, Kubiak gets an equally versatile chess piece to exploit the opposition.

“I feel like I can be used in a multitude of ways,” Bowers said shortly after being drafted by the Raiders. “At Georgia, I was moved all around. They put me in the backfield sometimes, tight end, slot, outside receiver. So, I feel like versatility is a big part of my game and I’m just excited to see what’s in store for this next year.”

The Bulldogs’ clash with the South Carolina Gamecocks below is proof of that:

Brock Bowers was a true game changer man. #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/V4z9QZsFhT

— Top Tier Georgia (@TopTierUGA) January 27, 2026

In his two seasons in Silver & Black, Bowers has lined up at the traditional tight end spots, at slot and even perimeter/boundary receiver, alongside fullback/H-back. This has created mismatches as the Raiders took advantage of the 23-year-old’s versatility.

The 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft played in 12 games this past season hauling in 64 passes for 680 yards and seven touchdowns. His rookie year, the Georgia product played in all 17 games and caught 112 passes for 1,194 yard and five touchdowns.

But more can be done — whether that’s exploiting defenses with Bowers unique blend of size, speed, route running and hands or feeding the fearsome tight end. Make all three levels of the opposing defense account for the supremely talented tight end.

And Kubiak is the right coach to see that happen.

Las Vegas Raiders should give Jeff Stoutland whatever he wants to join coaching staff

gettyimages-2190274683.jpg

The Las Vegas Raiders have their next head coach after reportedly reaching a handshake agreement with current Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. One of the Raiders’ next big orders of business when it comes to the coaching staff is hiring a quality offensive line coach, and one of the best in the business could be available. Jeff Stoutland announced that he’s stepping down with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

“Philadelphia, I’ve decided my time coaching with the Eagles has come to an end,” Stoutland posted on his X account. “When I arrived here in 2013, I did not know what I was signing up for. I quickly learned what this city demands. But more importantly, what it gives back. The past 13 years have been the great privilege of my coaching career. I didn’t just work here, I became one of you. Stout out.”

The Eagles are undergoing a few coaching changes this offseason. Despite winning the NFC East for the second year in a row, the first time the division has had a repeat champion since 2004, their offense significantly regressed in 2025. Philadelphia went from finishing the regular season seventh in points scored en route to a Super Bowl win to finishing 19th and getting eliminated from the playoffs during the Wild Card round.

That led to Kevin Patullo being a one-and-done offensive coordinator, and the organization recently hired former Green Bay Packers’ quarterbacks coach and nine-year (2015-2023) backup quarterback Sean Mannion as Patullo’s replacement. Mannion got the job about a week before Stoutland’s announcement, and Mannion is expected to bring in his own staff, making the timeline of events interesting.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the “initial plan” is for the legendary offensive line coach to remain involved with the organization—likely in a front office type of role. However, another insider for the network, Mike Garafolo, reported that other teams are interested in bringing in Stoutland (h/t NFL.com’s Grant Gordon). The Raiders should undoubtedly be one of those “other teams” and give him whatever he’s looking for to join the staff.

The offensive line was undoubtedly one of Las Vegas’ biggest weaknesses this past season. According to Pro Football Focus, the unit was responsible for 47 sacks this season—12 more than any other team—and the Raiders had the third-worst collective run blocking grade (53.0) as rookie running back Ashton Jeanty infamously had little to no breathing room.

Ashton Jeanty

However, a big reason for that was then head coach Pete Carroll bringing on his son, Brennan, as the offensive line coach. At the beginning of January, ESPN published an article that detailed the dysfunction that led to the club’s disappointing 3-14 campaign, naming Brennan as one of the biggest issues.

Between Jackson Powers-Johnson, Caleb Rogers, Charles Grant and DJ Glaze, the Silver and Black have plenty of young talent in the trenches. Dylan Parham and Jordan Meredith could be included in that group, too, but those two will be free agents in March. Kolton Miller is also excluded, but the 30-year-old, eight-year NFL veteran is already a well-established starter in the league.

In other words, the position group has promise and just needs a competent coach to develop and maximize each individual’s talent. And the Raiders would be hard-pressed to find someone with a better resume than Stoutland’s.

During his 13 years in Philadelphia, the Eagles’ offensive line accounted for 26 Pro Bowl selections and 15 All-Pro bids (h/t SumerBrain), an average of two Pro Bowlers and a little more than one All-Pro per season. What speaks to the coach’s ability to develop talent is that eight players make up those honors and only one, Lane Johnson, was a first-round pick.

Under Stoutland, Jason Kelce went from being a sixth-rounder to a seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time First-Team All-Pro, Evan Mathis was a third-rounder who made two Pro Bowls and one First-Team All-Pro, and Landon Dickerson was taken in the second and made three Pro Bowls, to give a few examples.

But Stout’s biggest accomplishment is taking Jordan Mailata from a rugby player who had never played football before entering the NFL and turning him into one of the best left tackles in the league.

Ahead of the Raiders’ Week 15 matchup against the Eagles, Silver and Black Pride asked Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation about Mailata’s development, and Gowton credited Stoutland with the 2018 seventh-round pick’s ascension.

Jordan Mailata, Jeff Stoutland

Meanwhile, the Raiders have a similar lineman on their roster in Laki Tasi, who is part of the International Player Pathway Program. Like Mailata, Tasi’s background is on the rugby pitch, and his first football game came during the preseason this past August. If the organization wants to get the most out of the former rugby player, bringing in the coach who developed someone with the same background into an All-Pro would be a smart move.

Long story short, Stoutland is Las Vegas’ best option when it comes to getting the most out of its offensive line. While general manager John Spytek said he’ll let the team’s next head coach pick the rest of the coaching staff and Kubiak likely has an offensive line coach in mind, Spytek, Kubiak and the rest of the Raiders’ brass should do whatever they can to bring in the Eagles’ former offensive line coach.

If he wants to be the offensive coordinator, no problem. Kubiak is likely going to call the plays anyway, and Stoutland was Philadelphia’s run game coordinator from 2018 to 2025 to be qualified for a promotion. If he’s looking for a lot of money, hand him a blank check. After Jeanty repeatedly faced defenders in the backfield as a rookie and with a new quarterback on the way in projected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza, it’d be a wise investment to have the highest-paid offensive line coach.

Sure, maybe the soon-to-be 64-year-old isn’t interested in the grind of being an NFL coach anymore, but the only way for Las Vegas to find that out is to pick up the phone and see what it would take to lure him to Sin City. And the organization better act quickly because Stoutland will have no shortage of suitors.

Las Vegas Raiders fans are full of hope in 2026

The Las Vegas Raiders are starting over — again.

Maybe, this time, they will get it right as they re poised to hire Klint Kubiak as head coach and draft quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall draft pick.

We wanted to know how Raiders’ fans are feeling as the calendar has turned to February and there is some clarity looking ahead.

As expected, the Raider Nation is understandably hopeful. Here are some of your responses:

Desair.711
Disillusionment is a bigger threat to this team than a bad record. We cannot let Jeanty get hit behind the LoS in ‘26. Our QB cannot immediately have rushers in his face. This OL has to at least give the appearance of competency and ability. This team has to be able to convert a 3rd down once in a while.
YuccaBrevifolia
I’m against starting Mendoza until the OL has jelled. Why risk him too early? We’re not looking at the playoffs this next season, so our early record means nothing.
chibberaider1
I didn’t expect miracles from Pete last year, but did not expect the disaster it was either. The prospect of a new, offensive minded coach and the Raiders choice at QB this year should turn things around. Should. I’ll have a reason to watch again at least. Fingers crossed.
YuccaBrevifolia
It’s a beautiful sunrise and the horizon looks bright. The future is ours to enjoy at last.

Las Vegas Raiders part ways with numerous coaches

On Friday, January 6th, the Las Vegas Raiders officially parted ways with over a dozen coaches on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The Raiders current coaching staff still does have a few holdovers from the 2025 season with a good chance to continue their coaching role in 2026 under new head coach Klint Kubiak. The Las Vegas Raiders officially parted ways with the following coaches:

Greg Olson, QB Coach

Olson spent the season as the Raiders interim OC and QB coach after rejoining the Raiders this off-season. Olson’s unit ranked 30th in points and 28th in yards along with the 32nd ranked rushing offense and 28th passing offense while he served as the interim offensive coordinator. Olson saw quarterback’s Geno Smith, Kenny Pickett, and Aidan O’Connell log a 66% completion rate, 2851 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions with Geno Smith throwing an NFL leading 17 interceptions. Olson has been tabbed as a leading candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles QB coach position.

Name to watch for #Eagles QB coach (the team hasn’t commented on Scot Loeffler’s status): Greg Olson, who finished the season as #Raiders interim OC. Sean Mannion played under Olson with the #Seahawks and sources say he’d be interested in bringing him to Philly. pic.twitter.com/erCinKm6JW

Nate Carroll, Asst. QB & Game Management Coach

Carroll, the youngest son of former Raiders head coach previously worked under the Seahawks as an assistant WR coach, WR coach, and assistant before heading to the Panthers in 2024 as their pass game coordinator. The Raiders ranked 24th in game management EPA per NefloSports.

Chris Beatty, WR Coach

Beatty joined the Raiders after most recently spending 2024 as the Chicago Bears WR coach. The longtime college wide receiver coach, saw Raiders third year receiver Tre Tucker log a career high in yards (696), receptions (57), and touchdowns (5). Additionally, Tucker ranked 12th in the NFL in separation, at 2.03 yards, which was also a career high. The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t see much development from 2nd rounder Jack Bech (20 receptions, 224 yards, 0 TD) and 4th rounder Dont’e Thornton (10 receptions, 135 yards, 0 TD). The Raiders need to see development from Bech and Thornton heading into their second seasons, especially with the premium draft capital invested and Raiders severe lack of talent at the position.

Brennan Carroll, OL Coach

Carroll joined his father in Las Vegas for the 2025 season where his unit ranked 22nd in pass block win rate, 24th in run block win rate, 31st in sack rate, 32nd in missed block rate, 30th in pressure rate, and 32nd in yards before contact. The Raiders also saw a severe issue in the run game with poor concepts, consistent missed blocks, and very little creativity in their blocking assignments. Las Vegas also saw very limited development from Jackson Powers-Johnson, who moved from C to G, DJ Glaze, and Dylan Parham while Caleb Rogers and Charles Grant saw severe limits in playtime. Additionally, the Raiders offensive line would meet on their own with the quarterbacks, runningbacks, and tight ends, while self teaching blocking. Additionally, Carroll has been noted as rushing players through drills and not teaching foundations and fundamentals.

People in the Raiders building were puzzled by the Brennan Carroll hire and said he wasn’t a “detail orientated guy”

One of Pete’s biggest mistakes

— Ted Nguyen (@FB_FilmAnalysis) January 5, 2026

Andy Dickerson, Asst. OL Coach

Kyle Fuller, Offensive Quality Control Coach

Joe Philbin, Senior Offensive Assistant

John Glenn, ILB Coach

Glenn, not the astronaut, joined the raiders after spending 2024 as the Commanders assistant ST Coordinator. Glenn was with the Seahawks from 2012 till 2023 serving as an assistant, quality control coach, and linebackers coach. Glenn saw a tremendous amount of development from young linebackers in Seattle from 2018 and on, and while Las Vegas did struggle at the linebacker position in 2025, the unit wasn’t a total liability. The Raiders released Germaine Pratt in week 5, who was consistently their best linebacker, and shifted focus to Elandon Roberts and Devin White. White posted 174 tackles, 11 TFL, and an interception but was 2nd in the NFL in missed tackles, 3rd in missed tackle rate, and finished bottom 10 in yards, QBR, and receptions allowed. Roberts did as expected as a run defender, but saw another notable dip in his coverage while also being tasked with heavy man coverage assignments. Jamal Adams was serviceable as a rotational linebacker, but Tommy Eichenberg and Cody Lindenberg did not develop as expected.

Tyrone McKenzie, Asst. ILB Coach

Marcus Robertson, SAF Coach & Asst. DB

Robertson rejoined the Raiders in 2025 after spending 2024 as the Saints defensive back coach. Robertson has rotated his time between cornerbacks, safeties, and the full secondary his entire career seeing a large amount of development from young defensive backs through his time with the Raiders, Cardinals, Broncos, and Saints. The Raiders pushed Robertson to the full safeties coach in 2025, and Las Vegas struggled with their backend coverage. Jeremy Chinn exceed expectations, but struggled early on in the season after being asked to be a fulltime strong safety after previously spending majority of his career as a nickel linebacker. Isaiah Pola-Mao logged 2 interceptions but also allowed 582 yards, 6 touchdowns, and a 120.7 QBR while ranking 7th in the NFL in missed tackles. Beyond those two, Las Vegas didn’t see much playtime from veterans Lonnie Johnson and Tristin McCollum, while 2022 5th rounder Chris Smith was released 9 games into the season.

Beyah Rasool, Asst. DB Coach

Derius Swinton, Asst. ST Coordinator

Swinton is listed on the Raiders current website, but is expected to take a role with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As the Raiders interim special teams coordinator, his unit ranked 25th in EPA and 28th in DVOA though cut their missed tackles to an average of 2.7/game ranking 11th.

The Steelers are expected to hire Derius Swinton II as a senior special teams assistant coach, source tells @NFLonCBS. Swinton heads to Pittsburgh after 3 seasons in Las Vegas with 3 different coaches. pic.twitter.com/vO0fGe2XOq

— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) February 5, 2026

Kade Rannings, Asst. ST Coordinator

The Raiders do have some current coaches still listed as under contract for 2026, and while future head coach Klint Kubiak will get a chance to put together his full coaching staff, as indicated by GM John Spytek, the Raiders are likely to retain some or all of these coaches:

Deland McCullough, RB Coach

McCullough is a finalist for the Kansas City Chiefs RB coach position, where he originally began his career, and could have the chance to coach Notre Dame runningback Jeremiyah Love again.

Luke Steckel, TE Coach

Connor McQueen, Quality Control Coach

Rob Leonard, DL Coach

Kenyon Jackson, Asst. DL Coach

Rip Rowan, Quality Control Coach

Joe Woods, CB Coach

Woods worked with new head coach Klint Kubiak in New Orleans, and could have a role with the 2026 Raiders as their defensive coordinator and/or a DB coach role.

Maxx Crosby rumors continue to heat up during Super Bowl week.

With the Las Vegas Raiders securing the head coach, the next hot topic of conversation has become Maxx Crosby. After Crosby became upset that he was forced to sit out the rest of the season, trade rumors have been circulating around the league and heating up during Super Bowl Week.

It started this week with Jay Glazer dropping a bombshell report with Yahoo Sports. While Crosby said that Glazer didn’t speak for him, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler hinted that it is the talk of the town.

What has been made clear to me: Crosby wants to be a part of a winner. That’s the priority. Whether and how that’s conveyed is still unclear. He has been fiercely loyal to Las Vegas. That loyalty will be tested more than ever in the coming weeks. The reality is the Raiders are still far away from significant winning, and the trade interest in Crosby is incredibly robust. In fact, I believe more than a dozen teams, possibly up to 20, will at least inquire with levels of serious intent. And there are some natural would-be contenders, including the Bills, Lions, 49ers, Cowboys and Ravens. One team that typically doesn’t jump in these high-stakes waters but would be perfect to try: the Buccaneers. This is the type of move that would put Tampa Bay over the top.

Usually, where there is smoke is fire, and these rumors will continue as the combine approaches. Hopefully, with Klint Kubiak coming into the building, they can sit down and come to an agreement.

Maxx Crosby reportedly told Tom Brady he won’t play for Raiders again

Maxx Crosby

Another day, another Maxx Crosby trade rumor.

Adding to the onslaught of speculation involving the Las Vegas Raiders’ star defensive end’s future that dominated the rumor mill during the Super Bowl week, the NFL offseason kicked off Monday morning with a report from longtime NFL reporter Jason LaCanfora of SportsBoom.com that Crosby has told Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady he will never play for the Raiders again. An unnamed NFL general manager relayed that news to LaCanfora. The report states Crosby’s representatives have begun informing other teams that he has no intentions of playing for the Raiders again.

Last week, noted and highly respected NFL insider Jay Glazer, who has said he talks to Crosby, told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday that he expected Crosby to be traded before the draft. Glazer said the reason will be because Crosby wants out because he doesn’t want to go through another rebuild, which the Raiders will be embarking on under new coach Klint Kubiak.

Crosby’s future became in question in late December when the team shut him down for the final two games because of a knee injury that he ended up having surgery for. Crosby said he wants to play and briefly left the team because of his anger. He has often said he was tiring of losing and he wants to win now.

Crosby, who turns 29 in August, is one of the NFL’s best overall defensive ends. he excels against the pass and the run. Last week, in multiple interviews, Crosby took the high road and said he is focused on getting ready for the season. In the end, he dins’t say with clarity what he wants, though.

Sunday, NFL Media reported that a Crosby trade could take time as he recovers from knee surgery.

What should we make of all of this? Really, it’s a wait-and-see situation, but one thing is clear, the Crosby trade chatter isn’t going to stop any time soon.

Teams that could make a run at a Maxx Crosby trade

Maxx Crosby

Speculation persists that the Las Vegas Raiders may end up trading star defensive end Maxx Crosby this offseason.

If the Raiders do make Crosby available, there will be a ton of teams interested. Expect well over half the league to make a call to the Raiders about trading for the star. Let’s look at some teams that could make a run at Crosby.

The top contenders for Crosby:

Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens

These are serious contenders who have shown a willingness to go for it in the past. Watch out for Dallas here. They have resources and Jerry Jones is a known massive fan of Crosby’s.

Keep an eye on:

Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Crosby has Michigan ties, so the Lions could be a nice fit and whenever there is trade talk, Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman is lurking nearby. The Rams have picks and Crosby be a good fit there as well.

Don’t discount:

Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders

The Bengals could be a fit if they let Trey Hendrickson walk in free agency and Patrick Graham will surely vouch for Crosby with his new bosses in Pittsburgh.

Conclusion:

The heavy interest in Crosby will only help the Raiders get a big package in return. There could be a bidding war which could make the tough decision to part ways with Crosby easier to justify.

The future of Las Vegas Raiders’ star defensive end Maxx Crosby will be one of the major storylines of the NFL offseason.

Tuesday, though, new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak didn’t waste any time letting his feelings about Crosby be known — he wants him to be a Raider moving forward.

— Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) February 10, 2026

“We want him to be part of our success moving forward,” Kubiak said during his press conference, announcing his hiring. “There’s no doubt about that.”

Kubiak said he had coffee with Crosby at the team’s facility on Tuesday morning. Kubiak said he was “fired up” that Crosby was the first person in the building Tuesday as he rehabs from a knee surgery. Kubiak said he is looking forward to having more conversations with Crosby in the future. Crosby was reported to be among the players who attended Kubiak’s press conference.

Raiders owner Mark Davis also said he wants Crosby to return.

Mark Davis on if he wants Maxx Crosby to remain in Las Vegas: "Yeah!"

"Maxx has been a great, great Raider. He is a great Raider. He's gone through a lifetime of development here for seven or eight years, and he still is a Raider. So it's all good."

There have been reports that Crosby wants to be traded and has told Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady he has no intentions of playing for the team again.

ESPN reported this week the Raiders would rather keep Crosby, but could get to the point where they listen to trade offers. Tuesday, Kubiak and Davis made it clear they want to keep their superstar.

Time will tell if Crosby has the same interest.

Highlights from Klint Kubiak’s press conference: ‘This is the Raiders’

Klint Kubiak

(Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images) | Getty Images

The Las Vegas Raiders introduced new head coach Klint Kubiak in a press conference on Tuesday. Here are some highlights from the session:

John Spytek said the team conducted 22 interviews for the job. Spytek said Kubiak stood out with his and leadership and they are proud that he helped win the Super Bowl as the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator. Spytek said Kubiak will attend the Seahawks’ Super Bowl parade on Wednesday and jumped in his new job on Thursday.

Kubiak thanked Mark Davis, Tom Brady and other in the ownership group. Kubiak said Davis takes care of former players better than anyone in the league.

He was extremely complimentary of the history of the Raiders’ history and he was reminded of it. There were some Raiders’ alumni were in attendance on the stage, including Jim Plunkett, Charles Woodson, Marcus Allen, Howie Long, Mike Haynes and Rich Gannon.

“This is no ordinary job, this is the Silver and Black, this is the Raiders. It’s a historic franchise,” Kubiak said. “It was a no brainer.”

Kubiak said the brass didn’t have to say much to sell him — “this is the Raiders.”

Kubiak is excited to be on the same team as Brady. He joked that Brady made a mistake of giving him his cell-phone number because he’s going to use it a lot. Kubiak said Brady was a big draw in his taking the job.

Kubiak praised Spytek and noted how important their communication will be in their roles. He said they will work closely on all aspects of the team, including building the coaching staff. Davis said Kubiak will report directly to both Spytek and Brady. Davis told reporters it’s clear that Spytek and Brady are running the football side of the team. Davis was asked if Brady will have a bigger presence around the building and he said they will have to wait and see.

As expected, Kubiak will call the plays on offense. Why not? He’s excellent at it.

Kubiak shouted out, Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker, who, but the way, is a free agent.

Kubiak said the fact that the Raiders have the No. 1 pick and the salary-cap space and the team’s Henderson, Nevada facility all played a role for him taking the job. “The resources are here, we just have to put it all together,” he said.

Kubiak was asked about taking expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. Predictably, he said he must watched tape before making any decisions with the top pick.

Kubiak didn’t look at the recent turnover of coaching stats as a negative, but as “a challenge.”

“We’re going to be about the work,” said Kubiak, a noted grinder. He wants to be a gritty team like the Raiders’ of the “old days.”

He said he is identifying assistant coaching candidates now. He is looking for a physical, aggressive approach that focuses on effort. He looking for “a great staff of teachers.”

Kubiak was asked about Ashton Jeanty, who was in attendance with several teammates, and he said he’s excited to start working with second-year running back.

As good as it gets. #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/0iFfZ4BCmM

— Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) February 10, 2026

Kubiak said tight end Brock Bowers can be one of the best “receivers” not just tight ends in the NFL.

Kubiak said he has to “earn” the trust of fans with their actions.

Overall, I was really impressed by Kubiak. He is not a rah-rah type. He seems genuine and and honest. He wasn’t blowing smoke and that is refreshing after what we’ve seen from recent coaches. He is about the work and is focused on making it work in Las Vegas. Time will tell if it does.

What I liked most about Kubiak in the presser was he didn't seem like he's full of crap. There's been way too much of that in the building for the past decade. Bullshit doesn't work in the NFL. #Raiders

— Bill Williamson (@BWilliamsonNFL) February 10, 2026

But Tuesday was a nice start to the Kubiak era.

NOTE:
Will be working on a Maxx Crosby update shortly with Kubiak making it known the team wants to keep him in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Raiders ranks among Top 250 Free Agents

Recently, PFF released their current top 250 players set to hit free agency this off-season, and numerous Raiders made the list. The Raiders currently have 25 players set to be free agents which incudes 4 exclusive rights free agents and two restricted free agents making 19 players unrestricted free agents. The following players made the cuts for PFF:

G Dylan Parham – 92nd

Market Value: 3 years, 21 million

Parham, just 26 years old has spent time bouncing around between left guard, center, and right guard in his career and he’s logged 3803 career snaps. In his time, Parham has allowed 18 sacks and 145 pressures including 6 sacks and 28 pressures in 2025 in a regression season though majority of the Raiders offensive line saw regression in 2025 under OL coach Brennan Carroll. Parham’s had his best play at right guard in his career and the Raiders or his new team should look to move him back there instead of sticking him at left guard where he’s been very up and down in his career. Additionally, Parham has seen some struggles with injuries as well in his career missing time in 2023, 2024, and 2025 with minor injuries.

EDGE Malcolm Koonce – 112th

Market Value: 1 year, 5.8 million

Koonce flashed in 2023 with 43 tackles, 8 TFL, 17 QB Hits, 8 sacks, 3 FF, 52 pressures, a 15.7% pass rush win rate, and 27 run stops. After missing all of 2024 with a torn ACL, Koonce signed a one year deal in 2025 and struggled at times but did finish the year strong and posted 30 tackles, 7 TFL, 13 QB hits, a forced fumble, 4.5 sacks, 35 pressures, 18 stops, and a 15.9% pass rush win rate. Koonce overall did struggle but also saw success at the back end of the year and showed the flashes of his 2023 self in weeks 16-18 along with parts of the beginning of the season. A year removed from a torn ACL should go a long way for him to get back to his form in 2023 and the flashes and talent hasn’t gone anywhere. Koonce will be an interesting option for the Raiders to bring back as a depth pass rusher or if he walks another team taking a swing on the potential.

HB Raheem Mostert – 137th

Market Value: 1 year, 2.4 million

Mostert signed with the Raiders as a veteran runningback option and he’s likely towards the back end of his career, if not played his final season in 2025. Mostert logged 22 attempts for 104 yards and 12 receptions for 70 yards. Overall, Mostert did his job as a depth runningback but Las Vegas will need more from the room behind Jeanty to help compliment his playstyle. The Raiders should go a different direction and add more depth and youth to the room.

QB Kenny Pickett – 152nd

Market Value: 2 years, 8.5 million

The former first round pick, Pickett will be an interesting option for teams as a depth quarterback or in a rare circumstance a possible starter (though very unlikely). Pickett has started a career 27 games and has tossed 4953 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in his career. The veteran quarterback is nearly 28 and does have the experience to help a room as a cheap solid veteran backup. The Raiders will be bringing in rookie Fernando Mendoza with the first overall selection and likely need to pair him with a backup quarterback option, and ideally someone with more experience then Mendoza. The Raiders could retain Pickett, but it will fully depend on what the staff’s looking for in their veteran backup/mentor option to Mendoza.

CB Eric Stokes – 156th

Market Value: 3 years, 33 million

The most interesting ranking for a Raiders free agent, Stokes was a standout in 2025 ranking top 25 in EPA/target, separation allowed, yards allowed, and QBR allowed. The former first rounder is just 26 years old and will turn 27 in March. At 6’1, 195 Stokes started all 16 games he appeared in this season totaling 53 tackles, 3 TFL, and 5 pass breakups. Additionally, Stokes allowed just 28 receptions for 261 yards, a touchdown, and a 77.2 QBR this season. The Raiders saw development from rookie Darien Porter and could look to keep their CB duo in tact while adding to it as well through the draft and free agency. Stokes has struggled with injuries in his career logging just 477 snaps in 2022 and 110 in 2023 but has back to back seasons at essentially full health. The Raiders should look to retain Stokes, but if they can upgrade they shouldn’t pass on that opportunity.

— Pro Football Hall of Fame Ambassador (@PFHOFAmbassador) January 28, 2026

ILB Jamal Adams – 217th

Market Value: 1 year, 1.8 million

Adams in his return season shifted down to linebacker full time playing 304 snaps at linebacker and 125 at a nickel linebacker role. Adams was successful logging 45 tackles, 5 TFL, a sack, a forced fumble, 7 pressures, 23 stops, and performing below average in coverage. Adams also missed 12 tackles for a 21.4 missed tackle rate but that has been his massive issue since he entered the NFL. In coverage Adams allowed 36 receptions for 211 yards, a touchdown, and a 98.6 QBR on 38 targets. Adams at 30 years old does still have a career path as a depth linebacker in the NFL but the Raiders should look to move off him towards an alternative option or retain Adams just for a minor linebacker position and special teams player.

  • ILB Elandon Roberts

Many Las Vegas Raiders fans are fired up about Klint Kubiak hire

The Las Vegas Raiders hired Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to become their next head coach.

Raiders’ fans are fired up about it.

Shortly after the news broke that the Raiders are planning to hire Kubiak, we asked our community members how they feel about

The results were overwhelming as more than 80 percent of the voters believe Kubiak is a great hire,

I get it. Time will tell if he can become a good head coach, but, as we sit here in February, there is really not much it dislike about this hire.

Here are some of your responses:

silvernblak
I love the hire of Kubiak. He has a great resource for help if he needs it, his father a SB winning Dad to lean on. Because theirs always a learning curve for a first time HC but a lot can be avoided because of his father to coach him up and help him succeed. He already is a great Offensive mind but also understands the defensive side of the ball too.

I believe the stars have finally aligned for Davis who has put all he has into this team since 2011 to turn it into a juggernaut again. Davis needs to get some credit for how hes built up this organization and putting the right people in place for success and that starts with Kubiak.

Im thoroughly impressed with Spytek and Brady for approaching this hire with patience and intelligence. I believe Spytek is going to be a stellar GM and he will get this team turned around and going in the right direction. It takes time to build a SB contender every year and it finally looks like that’s happening. Ive Ben waiting for direction on this team really since SB XVIII when I was in High School. 50 years I’ve been a fan and never wavered.

One thing Al said was right, “The greatness in the Raiders organization is in its future” and it seems it’s finally coming together. “JUST WIN BABY”

seayuh
Kubiak is not an old retread.
He will need time to put his stamp on the team.
I’m just as concerned about how Spytek does in the draft and free agency and how the rest of the coaching staff fills out. Who will be pulling the strings, making the big decisions?
I for one, am not expecting an instant turn around with a whole bunch of new people on the coaching staff and a bunch of new players.
OakTownRayda
Can’t say that I’ve been more excited for my team’s HC hire, ever. I became a fan in 72 when Madden was the HC. When the other young OC Gruden took over it was more of an unknown as he didn’t have the success or lineage, like Kubiak, when he was Eagles OC. Kubiak working with Mendoza should get the fan base fired up!

2026 Las Vegas Raiders extension candidates

Three Raiders headline extension talks

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - OCTOBER 19: Jeremy Chinn #11 of the Las Vegas Raiders looks on during an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on October 19, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images) | Getty Images

The Raiders have over 25 pending free agents this off-season, but the Raiders do have some key free agents set to hit the market in 2027 that the team should explore extensions with prior to next season. While Las Vegas needs to focus majority of their efforts to this off-season, general manager John Spytek has stated how pivotal it is for him to adjust to keeping talent in house after last off-season.

WR Tre Tucker:

Tucker, 25, is coming off a career season with 57 receptions, 696 yards, and five touchdowns while also ranking top 20 in separation (top 10), EPA/target, YAC/reception, and average depth of target. The 5’9, 190 pound receiver has done well working on the boundary majority of his career and shows to be a top option in 2026 as a deep threat option who also works well in the intermediate sections as well. Head coach Klint Kubiak’s offense fits Tucker’s skillset extremely well and Tucker should thrive in the offense on path to likely another career season. Las Vegas needs to retain their young talent and Tucker is a strong complimentary weapon to Brock Bowers and likely another free agent receiver. The Raiders would be smart to get ahead of the market for Tucker, especially given the market for Giants WR Wan’Dale Robinson this off-season.

Projected Contract: 3 years, 21 million (7M AAV)

— Sanjit T. (@Sanjit__T) February 1, 2026

TE Michael Mayer:

Mayer will no doubt be the center of trade talk conversations this off-season, yet again, especially with the Raiders having Brock Bowers heading into year 3. Klint Kubiak has consistently ranked inside the top 10 for multiple TE packages over his career as a playcaller, and that won’t change in Las Vegas. Mayer, just 24 years old is coming off his best season after posting 35 receptions, 328 yards, and a touchdown largely in place for the injured Bowers this off-season. Mayer has been an extremely consistent blocker, ranking inside the top 15 over the last three seasons for average ypc as a lead blocker and he’s been consistent after the catch as well with a career 5.1 yards/reception (97th percentile at TE). The Raiders are going to have trade options for Mayer, the former 2nd round selection, but Mayer is likely to see a large share of snaps and a big role for the Raiders in 2026. Mayer, likely would wait a season to lock down his contract, but the Raiders would be smart to push to lock up their compliment to Brock Bowers for likely cheap and well below market value.

Projected Contract: 2 years, 12 million (6M AAV)

SAF Jeremy Chinn:

Chinn, 28, is coming off a career season in 2025 despite a ton of various factors including his lack of usage as a true nickel linebacker/cornerback till a third of the season was completed. The 6’3, 220 pound safety turned in 114 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, a sack, and 31 stops. Additionally, Chinn allowed 38 receptions, 339 yards, and 4 TD along with a 110.7 QBR. While his coverage statistics aren’t a highlight, Chinn was a consistent defender for the Raiders till the final two weeks playing through injuries where he allowed nearly 100 yards, 7 receptions, and 2 touchdowns. The Raiders have struggled to find secondary talent, and Chinn was a consistent playmaker in 2025, which should translate again into 2026 with a similar role. While Las Vegas will need to add two over the top, traditional safeties, Chinn has seen success working near the line of scrimmage and has been an impact run defender with good flat and mid drop assignments. As for Chinn, he’s spoke highly of Las Vegas and his love for the Raiders, and likely would be looking for a long term extension in addition to his 2026 salary.

Projected Contract: 2 years, 18 million (9M AAV) – total of 3 years, 25 million (8.33M AAV)

The Raiders were prepared for the Pats. Looks like C6, but you can see Chinn stay on the curl and then on the bottom, Stokes switching with Adams on the route combination. Nobody Open leads to Polo-Mao almost getting a pick. pic.twitter.com/CHwMwN2oDI

Klint Kubiak starts filling out Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff with 1 hire, multiple interviews

Mike McCoy

After winning Super Bowl 60 with the Seattle Seahawks, new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is getting a late start to filling out the rest of his coaching staff. However, Kubiak is wasting no time after officially getting hired earlier this week, making one hire and interviewing a couple of candidates for the two coordinator spots.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders are hiring Mike McCoy as assistant head coach. McCoy and Kubiak worked together in 2017, when the former was the Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator and the latter was one of the team’s offensive assistants.

McCoy also brings head coaching experience to the first-year head coach’s staff, serving in that role from 2013 to 2016 for the then San Diego Chargers and as the Tennessee Titans’ interim head coach this past season after Brian Callahan was fired in Week 7.

The Raiders are hiring Mike McCoy as assistant head coach, per sources.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 12, 2026

Meanwhile, the Raiders will have a new defensive coordinator for the first time in four years after Patrick Graham left for the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers. One of Graham’s understudies could end up being his replacement.

Per The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov, current defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator Rob Leonard will interview for the defensive coordinator job in Las Vegas. Meirov also notes that Maxx Crosby, who has been the subject of recent trade rumors, thinks very highly of Leonard. The coach has been in Las Vegas since 2023 and added the run game coordinator to his title ahead of this past season.

At offensive coordinator, Kubiak is already leaning on his network. Pelissero also reported that the Raiders are interviewing current Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson for the job. The two coaches have only spent this past season working together, though. Jackson has nine seasons of experience as an NFL coach, all as a wide receivers coach, and was in the college ranks from 2008 to 2016. He also had a five-year career as a wideout for the Cleveland Browns.

Submit your offseason mailbag questions!

Klint Kubiak

HENDERSON, NEVADA - FEBRUARY 10: Klint Kubiak speaks as he is introduced as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders during a news conference at the Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters/Intermountain Health Performance Center on February 10, 2026 in Henderson, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images) | Getty Images

I’m deeming this week the “official” week for the Las Vegas Raiders. With Super Bowl 60 officially wrapping up the 2025 NFL season, the Raiders are officially in the offseason and started it by making the hiring of Klint Kubiak as head coach official. So, any concerns about Murphy’s law coming into play where Kubiak backs out of the job are officially nullified, and we can shift gears to filling out the rest of the coaching staff, the 2026 NFL draft and free agency for this week’s mailbag, officially.

As always, anything Raiders-related is on the table and fire away with anything that’s on your mind. Send your questions my way by either dropping a comment in the comments section below, tweeting at me (@MHolder95) or via email at [email protected]. I’ll follow up with another column in the coming days.

If you don’t have a commenting account already, you’ll need to create one but the steps are pretty easy and it’s a seamless process. Also, we have full-time moderators to enforce the Community Guidelines.

Mailbag: How will Las Vegas Raiders’ approach to free agency be different than last offseason?

John Spytek

HENDERSON, NEVADA - FEBRUARY 10: General manager John Spytek of the Las Vegas Raiders attends a news conference introducing Klint Kubiak as the team's head coach at the Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters/Intermountain Health Performance Center on February 10, 2026 in Henderson, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images) | Getty Images

It’s a short celebration for Klint Kubiak as he goes from winning the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks to filling out his coaching staff with the Las Vegas Raiders. That will be one of our big topics of discussion for this week’s mailbag, as well as free agency and the 2026 NFL draft. So, let’s get to it!

Q: What differences in the Raiders’ approach to free agency/draft do you see them making this year, as opposed to last year? Do you see them still looking for short-term deals, or will they go after more proven players in free agency?

A: I touched on this a little last week, so apologies if I’m repeating myself a bit here.

I think the Raiders will be willing to add older players on short-term contracts at offensive line and wide receiver to help give Fernando Mendoza the best chance at having success early in his career. Plus, the organization wants to make sure its investment in the future of the franchise is well-protected by bringing in veterans to at least provide some competition for young guys like Caleb Rogers, Charles Grant, etc.

But outside of those two position groups, I get the feeling John Spytek is going to target younger free agents who can be part of the long-term plan. Spytek has talked a lot about developing guys and building for the future, rather than finding quick fixes. Having a younger head coach who is on a five-year contract versus a 74-year-old who doesn’t have time for a rebuild makes it easier for everyone in the building to be on the same page.

We might see a few short-term deals to fill out the roster, but I think the primary goal of this offseason in Las Vegas is to add young talent and have a collection of players who will grow together.

TOWNBIZZ25
How many Olineman would you sign in free agency?

A: At least two who can come in and compete for a starting spot, one right tackle and an interior guy. I’d look for another guard to make three, but that might be getting a little greedy. I don’t think the Raiders should be taking chances when it comes to protecting Mendoza, meaning they need to add and probably overspend a bit for proven offensive linemen in free agency.

If Rogers, Grant and/or DJ Glaze end up winning starting spots over the offseason additions, then so be it. Having too many good linemen is a good problem to have. Maybe Spytek can make a trade to recoup some of the losses, but in this situation, at least he used every asset possible to reinforce the trenches and made sure the future of the franchise is well-protected.

Q: What is the appeal of Jim Schwartz? He is still under contract with the Browns, and his scheme seems very talent-dependent. It could be an ugly couple of years until they assemble the talent to run his man-heavy scheme.

gettyimages-2247152303.jpg

A: The appeal is that Schwartz has an impressive resume with 12 defenses that have finished in the top half of the league for yards allowed, including five top-five finishes, and has been coaching in the NFL for about 30 years. I think the experience is especially appealing since he’s been a head coach before and Kubiak hasn’t. So, the Raiders’ brass likes the idea of giving Kubiak a sounding board on the staff, and it’s a bonus that Schwartz has a good track record as a defensive coordinator.

That being said, I’m with you that Schwartz has benefited from working with a lot of talent in Cleveland, especially with the combination of Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward. Schwartz’s man coverage-heavy scheme is pretty simple and works well when the defense has a cornerback who can take away an offense’s No. 1 receiver and the best pass-rusher in the league (maybe in NFL history) to get pressure by the time the quarterback gets to his second read. However, things can get pretty ugly when the talent isn’t there.

Especially if it means Las Vegas has to give up draft picks to get Schwartz since the Cleveland Browns control his rights, then I’m out on him. But it sounds like this is going to be a moot point anyway. Reports are that the Browns aren’t willing to let the defensive coordinator out of his contract, so he’s expected to sit out this season.

Breer discusses who The potential #Raiders DC candidates could be ⬇️

Mr_Blockbuster
Any favorites for DC?
Leonard to help appease Maxx?
Someone from Seattle?
Perhaps poach from another team?

A: I touched on a few defensive coordinator candidates in the related post below. I was hoping Kubiak would be able to bring Karl Scott with him from Seattle, but Ian Rapoport crushed my dreams by reporting that Scott is going to stay with the Seahawks.

One option that seems to be flying under the radar is current Philadelphia Eagles cornerbacks coach Roy Anderson. Anderson and Kubiak worked together with the Minnesota Vikings, and the former stems from the Vic Fangio coaching tree. Fangio has a great scheme, so I’d be very intrigued by giving Anderson a shot to call the defense if he can bring over that system.

I’m in the camp of people who wouldn’t mind giving Rob Leonard a promotion. I think he’s done a good job with the defensive line over the last three years, and the Raiders were able to scheme up a bunch of tackles for loss against the run last season. My concern with Leaonard is that I don’t know what types of coverages he’d run, and that it’d be pretty similar to Patrick Graham’s scheme. Those two were pretty connected, working together with the New York Giants (2016-2017) and Miami Dolphins (2019) before reuniting in Vegas.

10silver
We know that Kubiak is good at designing and calling offensive plays, but can he improve the Raiders defense to be great like the Seahawks defense? I think that’s equally important.

A: This is why the DC hire is important for Kubiak. He wasn’t even in Seattle long enough to have a firm grasp on Mike Macdonald’s scheme. That’s where being able to land someone like Scott would have been nice. However, the Raiders are interviewing the Seahawks’ safeties coach Jeff Howard for their defensive coordinator opening, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. That’s an option to poach someone from Macdonald’s defensive staff. Howard and Kubiak also worked together in Minnesota, so there might be some legs here.

Q: Do coordinators usually choose their position coaches or does the head coach decide? I’m surprised Kubiak hasn’t hired his staff at a faster rate, especially knowing how important the OL and QB coach will be.

A: The head coach gets final say on the entire staff, including all position coaches. Kubiak might lean on his coordinators to bring in candidates for the position coaches, especially defensively, and their recommendations will have weight. But it’s ultimately Kubiak’s call on who gets hired and falls on him.

As far as the lack of hires, let’s remember that he wasn’t officially hired until Tuesday. Give him more than three days (at the time this was written) to make some hires, LOL!

Bug68
What would the criteria be for a “successful” off-season?

A: The Raiders are off to a good start by getting Kubiak and eventually landing Mendoza. After that, I’d say getting two starting-caliber offensive linemen and a go-to wide receiver in free agency, and then loading up on defensive players from the second round on during the draft. Landing a quality defensive coordinator is a factor, too, but it seems like Las Vegas is probably going to get someone who hasn’t called plays in the past. So that’s going to be hard to judge until the season rolls around.

RaiderFaninElPaso
Is the issue with Christian Wilkins contract/money going to be resolved before the start of the free agency period?

A: It doesn’t seem like it. There’s no public information on when the hearing for Christian Wilkins’ grievance is, and we haven’t heard any updates since the situation reached its tipping point this summer. As of today, Wilkins accounts for nearly a $30 million dead cap hit, according to Over The Cap. Even with that, the Raiders still have the second-most cap space in the NFL at $91.5 million.

Q: While I truly hope that the Raiders draft Mendoza, there is one scenario I’d like to get your opinion on. Would you consider trading the #1 pick to the New York Jets for the following: their two number ones this year (picks 2 and 16) PLUS one of their 3 number ones in 2027 (even their “lowest” one) PLUS Armand Membou?

A: Since the Jets took Membou seventh overall last year, this is essentially four first-round picks for them to move up one spot in the draft. I don’t think that’s realistic, but I’d certainly consider it if it’s on the table. My concern is that the Raiders would be back to square one when it comes to having a clear path to finding a quarterback.

I’m going to continue to say this when it comes to trade scenarios with the No. 1 overall pick: If another team is willing to mortgage their future and give up a haul to draft Mendoza, that says a lot about how the NFL views him as a prospect versus what’s been discussed in the media. In all of these scenarios, it feels like the smartest move the Raiders can make is just to draft their quarterback and go from there.

Q: If you (and the Jets!) say yes to the above, would you then like to see Klint Kubiak bring back Derek Carr to be a “bridge” QB this year and then draft one in 2027, which is supposed to be a deeper QB class? The Raiders could even put their #1 and the one they get from the Jets to move up the board.

A: I think the Carr ship has sailed. I’d rather see the Raiders sign someone like Mitchell Trubisky to be a bridge gap or take a flier on Malik Willis in free agency than give up a draft pick or picks to bring Carr back.

Hi Matt,
Aside from Cole, last year’s kicking game was not good. I suspect, they will bring in ‘competition’ for Carlson, but what do you notice as the problem last year? Was it the holder, has Carlson fallen that far off.. or what?

A: Daniel Carlson is a free agent this offseason, and it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a new kicker in Las Vegas next fall. His field goal percentage has been declining every year since 2020, bottoming out at 81.5 percent this past season, which ranked 27th among kickers with at least nine attempts, per Pro Football Focus. So, I think Carlson has fallen off, and it’s time to move on.

That’ll do it for this week’s mailbag. Thank you all for submitting questions and, as your weekly reminder, if you’d like to have your questions answered in a future column, tweet them at me, @MHolder95, email them to [email protected] or look for our weekly call for questions on the site. The latter will continue to publish on Thursdays.

As a side note, I had a brain fart this week and scheduled my call for questions on Friday instead of Thursday. So, apologies if I didn’t get to you this week. But I’ll circle back on this week’s questions for my next mailbag (which will most likely be next week) and touch on the ones that are still relevant.

Early thoughts on Las Vegas Raiders making Rob Leonard defensive coordinator

Rob Leonard

The Las Vegas Raiders promoted defensive line coach Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator on Saturday. Here are some thoughts on the move:

He deserves chance:

Leonard, who has been with the Raiders for three seasons, is a well-respected coach around the NFL and he has had success. He has been an NFL coach for 13 years. He deserves the opportunity. The Raiders reportedly have blocked Leonard, their defensive line coach/run-game coordinator, from going elsewhere in recent years and he they think he will be a coaching star. This is his chance.

Kubiak’s most important hire:

New Raiders’ head coach Klint Kubiak will call the plays on offense. So, the defensive coordinator hire is is most important hire. Kubiak and Leonard will either succeed or fail together.

Need some experience:

Like Kubiak, Leonard has no experience in his new role. I’d expect the Raiders to hire a senior defensive coach (someone with big experience) to hel0p guide Leonard similar to Kubiak brining n former NFL head-coach Mike McCoy as assistant head coach.

Maxx factor:

Leonard, of course, was Maxx Crosby’s direct coach for the past three seasons and they have a good relationship. There is speculation Crosby may asked to be traded. promoting Leonard to defensive coordinator can’t hurt the Raiders’ relationship with Crosby. Still, it would be shortsighted to assume this is the reason why Leonard was promoted. He earned it.

No Schwartz?

There’s been rumors for weeks Kubiak was trying to hire former Cleveland Browns’ defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. But the Browns own his rights and it would be difficult, so the Raiders turned to other candidates. I guess there is still hope he could be added to the staff at some point, but don’t count on it.

Other candidates:

Leonard was one of four known candidates for the job. The others were Aubrey Pleasant of the Rams, Jeff Howard of the Seahawks and DeMarcus Covington of the Green Bay Packers. It wouldn’t be shocking if Kubiak hired Howard, Seattle’s safeties coach, as defensive backs coach or linebackers coach. He has held both of those roles in the NFL. Kubiak and Howard coached together in both Minnesota and Seattle.

Looking at Jacksonville:

The Jaguars had instant success with head coach Liam Coen and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile in 2025. Both were in their first years in their roles and both excelled. It’s a good model for the Raiders to follow.

Some good mentors:

Leonard has worked under star defensive coaches Brian Flores, Mike MacDonald and Patrick Graham. He has had some strong mentorship to prepare him for this opportunity.

Free-agents targets?

Leonard has coached free-agent pass-rushers Jaelan Phillips and Odafe Oweh. Both could be Las Vegas targets this offseason regardless if Crosby stays or not.

Retaining staff:

The Raiders are also keeping defensive passing-game coordinator Joe Woods. The chances are solid that they also keep tight ends coach Les Steckel and running backs coach Deland McCullough

New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is starting to fill out his coaching staff, promoting Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator and keeping Joe Woods as defensive pass game coordinator, according to NFL Network.

Leonard has been with the Raiders since 2023, serving as the defensive line coach under former defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who recently joined Mike McCarthy’s staff with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ahead of last season, Las Vegas added defensive run game coordinator to Leonard’s title. The Silver and Black’s defense ranked 17th in total rushing yards allowed but fourth in average yards per carry allowed.

Meanwhile, last year was Woods’ first with the Raiders. Previously, he was the Cleveland Browns (2020-2022) and New Orleans Saints (2023-2024) defensive coordinator, working on the same staff as Kubiak for one year in New Orleans. Las Vegas ranked 14th in passing yards allowed in 2025.

These are the second and third additions to Kubiak’s first coaching staff with the Raiders. Earlier this week, former San Diego Chargers and interim Tennessee Titans head coach Mike McCoy was named assistant head coach.
