After a lost weekend, Padres’ hitting woes continue

Shout out to the Friar Faithful, as we have come to the point of the 2025 Major League Baseball season that we need to scoreboard watch on our televisions, laptops, and smartphones. The San Diego Padres are in a competitive wildcard race with three other good teams (the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Cincinnati Reds). Despite the lost weekend in Los Angeles, the Padres still hold a comfortable lead among their competitors. But that grip is slowly slipping away.

This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Friar Faithful. When the Padres are playing well, they’re one of the best teams in baseball. But if things turn for the worse, the Friars are having trouble making consistent contact at the plate. The frustration level among the Friar Faithful is at an all-time high.

The Padres’ bats silent once again

Let’s not mince words: the Padres’ bats have been quiet for far too long. The silence rang loudly through Petco Park in a 4-3 series-opening loss to the San Francisco Giants. Once again, the batting lineup failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position. The offense scored all its runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a pinch-hit two-run home run by Ryan O’Hearn.

The lineup repeated the same issues that plagued them in Los Angeles last weekend. It was another uninspired night at the plate, compounded by the failure to pick up a game on the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers in the standings.

What lies ahead for the Friars?

The Friars must play through this rough stretch, given the magnitude of the homestand. It might be time for the players to take a step back and hit the reset button. Everyone is frustrated because the at-bats have not been productive. Nothing is clicking at the moment. Someone better come up with a solution before the Padres find themselves out of the playoff chase.

One of the best aspects of baseball is that the sport is played daily. Not a lot of downtime to dwell on your struggles. The good thing is that momentum could be waiting at the next turn of the season. Hitting is contagious, and a couple of breakout games could be a stabilizing force that puts the Friars back on track for the final six weeks of the regular season.

The NL West is still up for grabs, but the Padres must first secure a wildcard berth. Every player in the locker room cannot lose faith that the offense will get going again. Reversing their recent struggles could be the headline of this homestand.
