Michael Malone Reveals What Is Unique About Nikola Jokic

There is no doubt that Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is one of the most talented NBA stars in the world.

Everyone, including his head coach, believes that.

Speaking about Jokic on Monday night after an important win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Michael Malone opened up about just how special and smart Jokic is.

“I don’t think people truly understand the IQ that he has… a brilliant person, a brilliant mind,” Malone said, per NBA on X.

Malone said that Jokic is the definition of a high basketball IQ.

He can read the floor, his teammates, and his opponents in real-time and can make split-second decisions that carry the Nuggets.

Unlike other basketball players, Jokic doesn’t have to re-watch footage of games because he is so in tune with the moment.

He is also one of the most impressive passers the league has seen in years.

It’s almost as if he has eyes in the back of his head and is able to find his fellow Nuggets players with a sixth sense.

Jokic is a marvel to watch and he plays in ways that the league rarely sees.

Perhaps one of the most amazing things about him is that he is seemingly getting better.

His season average of 28.9 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 10.5 assists is actually better than last year when he won his third MVP trophy.

He may not earn that award again this year but he is still putting up a masterclass season that will be remembered for years to come.

Like just about everyone else, Malone is astonished by what he’s seen from Jokic and is eager to witness more.

Nikola Jokic Gets Honest About MVP Race

Minnesota Timberwolves v Denver Nuggets - Game Five

The Denver Nuggets got their revenge game on Monday night, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 140-127 behind yet another explosive effort from Nikola Jokic.

Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are in a fierce fight for this season’s MVP and Jokic spoke about that after the game.

Talking to Tim MacMahon, Jokic was honest about the battle for Most Valuable Player and opened up about how well he is playing.

“I will say that I think I’m playing the best basketball of my life, so if that’s enough, that’s enough… If not, [Shai] deserves it. He’s really amazing,” Jokic said, per Legion Hoops.

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) March 11, 2025

During Monday’s game, Jokic posted 35 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists, which goes in line with his season average of 28.9 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 10.5 assists on 57.7 percent from the floor.

He was once again the leading scorer for his team, but just barely.

Jamal Murray put up 34 points in the win.

For the last few months, the race between Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander has been incredibly tight but lately, people have felt the Thunder star has the advantage.

That is due to a few factors, including the success of his team, his age, and the fact that Jokic has already won the award multiple times.

But if Jokic continues to have games like this, he could sneak past Gilgeous-Alexander and claim his fourth MVP.

The bigger question is which of these players will make it to the NBA Finals.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s team is the best in the West but Jokic’s has more experience so there is a chance they could surprise everyone and make another run at a championship in a few months.

Michael Malone Is Going Viral For Actions After Lakers Game

Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets

(Photo by Tyler McFarland/Clarkson Creative/Getty Images)

The Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, but just barely.

The Nuggets walked away with a 131-126 victory over the Lakers, but LA was without Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Jaxson Hayes, Rui Hachimura, and more.

Many people thought the Nuggets would sail to a win, but they didn’t.

Because of that, head coach Michael Malone wasn’t too pleased with his team’s output and a post-game gesture showed that.

According to a video shared by Oh No He Didn’t, per Legion Hoops, Malone picked up the printed box score, crumpled it up, and tossed it aside before speaking with the press.

“This isn’t a beauty pageant. We don’t get rated on our wins. It’s a win,” Malone said.

Malone is correct when he says a win is a win but this was an alarming one for the Nuggets.

It was assumed they’d have no problems against the Lakers because the team was lacking its two superstar scorers and most defensive support.

But the Lakers came out of the gate strong and played a great game from beginning to end.

Austin Reaves was a sensational team leader and Dalton Knecht had one of his best games yet.

Meanwhile, Denver’s defense was lacking and they were able to get outplayed many times.

In fact, there was a stretch of the game when the Lakers held a lead and looked like they were going to do the seemingly impossible.

This win is a red flag for Denver because defense will be a huge part of the playoffs and if they wish to return to the Finals, they will need to figure out how to solve their problems.

The Nuggets are still the second seed in the West and have a 43-24 record.

But this game proves that anything can happen and no one will go easy on them.

They don’t want more bad nights like this, particularly during the playoffs.

Nikola Jokic Has Honest Admission About His 61-Point Performance

Minnesota Timberwolves v Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic went wild on Tuesday night during the Denver Nuggets’ double overtime showdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He scored 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the game, achieving an amazing triple-double that had to be seen to be believed.

Following the game, Jokic talked about his performance and how it’s natural for him to play basketball this way.

“We are born for this. We train since we were little. My opinion is that horses are basically like athletes and they’re really similar to us,” Jokic said, per DNVR Nuggets.

He added, “They are born to run and we are born to play.”

Jokic was a powerhouse for his team during the game and was a massive offensive threat.

Once again, he showed why he is considered perhaps the best player in the NBA.

Not only did he create a ton of points for himself, but he also made a lot of opportunities for his teammates too and helped them score.

This season, Jokic is averaging 29.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists on 57.5 percent from the field.

Any other year, that would be more than enough for him to win another MVP trophy, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is still considered the frontrunner for that prize.

Even though he might not be MVP again, Jokic is clearly one of the best men playing the game right now.

Many people have wondered how he can accomplish so much on the floor and how he can master the game so well.

Jokic feels that playing great basketball is what he is made to do, and that is why he is such a threat in the league.

Michael Malone Makes His Thoughts Clear About Russell Westbrook

Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets

(Photo by Tyler McFarland/Clarkson Creative/Getty Images)

The Denver Nuggets were barely beaten by the Minnesota Timberwolves in double overtime Tuesday night, and many people are blaming Russell Westbrook.

Because of a few late-game decisions from Westbrook, including fouling the Timberwolves in the final seconds, the Nuggets lost.

Following the game, head coach Michael Malone spoke about Westbrook, calling him “a guy that hates to lose” and a “perfectionist.”

Malone knows some people will cast blame on Westbrook, but he stood up for his star.

“Knowing Russ the way I do, he’s probably going to put a lot of this on him. But we lost tonight, the Denver Nuggets. Not one player,” Malone said, per DNVR Nuggets.
Michael Malone: "I know who Russell Westbrook is. He's a guy that hates to lose…he's a perfectionist."

— DNVR Nuggets (@DNVR_Nuggets) April 2, 2025

This is a very painful loss for the Nuggets, and it would be easy to look at Westbrook’s decisions and claim he is the sole reason they were taken down.

But Malone has a point when he says that the entire team lost, not just one player.

If the game wasn’t so close, Westbrook’s mistakes wouldn’t have mattered as much.

Malone knows it wasn’t just one decision that led to this defeat and is attempting to protect Westbrook.

The Nuggets remain the third seed in the West, but the Los Angeles Lakers are right behind them, so every game matters at this point.

For the season, Westbrook is averaging 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game on 45.3 percent.

For the most part, fans are happy with what they have seen from the nine-time All-Star, although they accept he still makes mistakes at times.

For Tuesday’s game, Westbrook put up 12 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, which are good numbers, although most people will only pay attention to his final seconds of the game.

Former Player Makes A Big Statement About Nikola Jokic

Portland Trail Blazers v Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic left NBA fans in awe the other night as he put up 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a grueling double overtime game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It was an incredible performance, but not shocking because Jokic has repeatedly shown how extraordinary he is.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Antonio Daniels talked about Jokic and said there is no one like him.

“Every time he steps on the floor, it’s historic,” Daniels said, before explaining why he doesn’t get enough credit.
"Every time he steps on the floor, it's historic."@adaniels33 on the amazing play of Nikola Jokić.

— SiriusXM NBA Radio (@SiriusXMNBA) April 3, 2025

Like everyone else, Daniels was floored by Jokic’s 61-point triple-double and said it isn’t receiving enough attention from the press.

That is partly because Jokic doesn’t do anything flashy, according to Daniels.

He agrees that the Nuggets star is a phenomenal passer, and people take note of that.

He is also great at making big-time heaves that go viral.

But, generally, Jokic doesn’t do the things that create highlight reels and that’s one of the things that makes him so amazing.

From his personality to his build to his skills, he is one-of-a-kind in many ways.

To say he is historic really is not an understatement because there has never been a star like him.

For the season, Jokic is averaging 29.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists on 57.5 percent from the floor.

He remains the most important player in Denver and, to many, the best star in the league.

His latest game against the Timberwolves wasn’t a win but it was another chance for Jokic to shine and remind the world how unique he is.

You can use the word “historic” or any other to describe him, but one thing is clear: Jokic is someone special.

Steve Kerr Names The Best Center He’s Ever Seen

Golden State Warriors v Los Angeles Lakers

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Denver Nuggets on Friday night, beating them 118-104.

This was a chance for NBA fans to witness two of the biggest stars on earth battle it out.

Following the game, head coach Steve Kerr was incredibly supportive of Nikola Jokic, who he said is a talent unlike any other.

“He’s the best center I’ve ever seen. I played against Kareem…Kareem couldn’t do all this stuff,” Kerr said, per Legion Hoops.

On Friday, Jokic posted 33 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists against the Warriors.

His team may not have won, but he put on another masterclass and showed he is the definition of versatility.

Kerr said that no one, not even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, could do what Jokic does nightly.

He is likely referring to the fact that Jokic is a threat for so many reasons.

He is not just a powerful presence in the paint, he can also be a problem from the perimeter.

Additionally, one of the things that sets him apart from other centers in the league is his ability to pass.

His assist game is second-to-none, and some people consider him the best passer since Magic Johnson.

He creates dazzling passes and also produces his own fantastic buckets night after night.

Jokic has a season average of 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists, which is even more evidence of what a special player he is.

Kerr has witnessed and played with some of the greatest NBA stars of all time.

Therefore, when he makes this statement about Jokic, it should be taken seriously because he knows what he is talking about.

Analyst Believes Nuggets Star Approved Of Michael Malone’s Firing

Denver Nuggets Media Day

As playoff positioning solidifies and most teams focus on postseason preparation, the Denver Nuggets organization made the stunning decision to overhaul their leadership—despite sitting fourth in the competitive Western Conference with a respectable 47-32 record.

Behind this unexpected move, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins sees more than meets the eye.

He believes the invisible hand of Denver’s franchise cornerstone may have guided this seismic shift in the organization’s direction.

“This firing doesn’t happen without the okay from Nikola Jokic,” Perkins stated on NBA Today.
Do star players have a say in coaching decisions?
🤔

pic.twitter.com/I0RBF5sj0P

— NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) April 8, 2025

The timing makes the decision particularly puzzling—parting ways with both head coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth with just three regular-season games remaining.

While many observers expressed shock, Perkins viewed this development as somewhat inevitable.

He pointed to the team’s inconsistent effort throughout the season as the clearest indication that Malone had lost grip on the locker room.

Throughout this campaign, signs of disconnect became increasingly apparent.

Denver’s defensive inconsistencies stood in stark contrast to their championship form last season, and Nikola Jokic’s visible frustration during games didn’t go unnoticed by league observers.

For Perkins, these signs suggested trouble brewing beneath the surface of the defending champions.

The Denver Nuggets now face the immediate challenge of regrouping under interim leadership while trying to snap their current four-game skid.

They’ll have their first opportunity to right the ship when they face the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, with playoff positioning and team chemistry hanging in the balance.

Stats Show How Nikola Jokic Has Dominated This Season

Portland Trail Blazers v Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets has had an NBA season that is downright stunning by any measure.

He may not win MVP again, but no one can debate just how terrific Jokic has been.

As pointed out by StatMuse, Jokic has been third in points per game, third in rebounds, second in assists, and second in steals in 2024-25.

He is the definition of a one-man team and has been thriving since the very first game.

Unreal. pic.twitter.com/nWRrtLuKX6

— StatMuse (@statmuse) April 8, 2025

Jokic’s season average currently sits at 30.0 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from the three-point line.

It doesn’t matter which team he is playing against or who is defending him, Jokic creates shots or finds others who can.

He has been sensational and would be the clear frontrunner for MVP in any other year.

However, this year that honor will likely go to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

But that isn’t slowing Jokic down, and he is playing lights-out basketball, even as his team struggles.

The Nuggets have now lost four games in a row and sit as the fourth seed in the West.

They have faced some tough losses and at times appear tired and out of energy.

They will need to work hard to get back on track before the playoffs begin.

If the postseason kicked off today, the Nuggets would face off against the Los Angeles Clippers, a formidable opponent.

Everyone knows that Jokic would play well during that series, but would it be enough?

NBA fans have seen Jokic leave it all on the court and do unprecedented things only to watch the Nuggets lose.

Is that a trend that will continue in the playoffs?

Analyst Believes Nikola Jokic Could Make Surprise Move This Offseason

Portland Trail Blazers v Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic said goodbye to his head coach on Tuesday, but could he be saying goodbye to his team soon?

Ryen Russillo spoke about the chance of Jokic leaving the Nuggets this offseason in the wake of Michael Malone’s firing, via a video shared by Jokicism on X.

Russillo doesn’t have any inside reporting suggesting this will happen this summer, but he did pose a scenario where a new head coach is hired but Jokic starts to question his position with the Nuggets.

Is there a chance that this could be the beginning of the end for Jokic’s time in Denver?

— Jokicism
🃏
(@jokicgoatic15) April 9, 2025

Obviously, that is the last thing the team’s front office wants, and they surely considered Jokic’s opinion when they let go of Malone.

No one knows how much Jokic was aware of, but he will be deeply involved in the process moving forward.

The Nuggets will select someone who can help lead the team and also get along well with Jokic.

It’s no shock that Denver’s general manager was also fired, because the roster around Jokic needs to be improved and the front office will get to work at making that happen.

The Nuggets want to keep Jokic happy, and will do everything within their power to make it happen.

How quickly can they move?

This offseason could be a massively consequential one for the Nuggets as they set out on their quest to get a new head coach and general manager while also pleasing their biggest star.

Denver probably isn’t at risk of losing Jokic right now, but if they don’t handle these next steps well, they could be laying the groundwork for his eventual departure.

Nikola Jokic Reportedly Addressed The Team After Michael Malone’s Firing

Denver Nuggets v New York Knicks

The NBA world was stunned when Michael Malone was fired as the Denver Nuggets head coach on Tuesday, but did Nikola Jokic see it coming?

There is still a lot of speculation about that but, according to NBA insider Adam Mares, Jokic addressed the team in a meeting after the firing.

Mares said that Jokic told the Nuggets that this firing was beyond their control and certainly surprising, but they need to “not treat this as an end” to the season, according to a video shared by Grace on X.

Jokic clearly doesn’t want Malone’s departure to derail the squad with the playoffs right around the corner, but what does this really mean for Denver’s future?

Jokic reportedly addressed the team tonight at a get-together….

So will the team respond and play well vs. Sacramento, or will they play hungover from Dario's (presumed) birthday bash… only time will tell
👀

— Grace (@ErinBurr27) April 9, 2025

Right after the firing, some people said the season was over for the Nuggets.

They claimed that the front office knew they’d have no luck in the postseason, so they fired Malone and threw in the towel early.

But the Nuggets can never throw in the towel while Jokic is on the roster.

He has had such an incredible and consistent season that this team still has a chance of making noise in the playoffs even without Malone.

This will be a chance to prove a lot of things, and anyone who thinks the Nuggets are completely neutralized might have another thing coming.

The Nuggets are currently fifth in the West, but the standings are very tight.

Regardless of where they land, they still have the same roster and there is a lot of talent on it, including arguably the best player in the league.

Jokic doesn’t want his team to get discouraged or sidetracked by this firing because he still believes in them.

Now it’s time for the Nuggets to give fans something to believe in during this very chaotic and unpredictable time.

Tyronn Lue Reveals His Thoughts On Michael Malone’s Firing

Chicago Bulls v Los Angeles Clippers

The firing of Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone sent a message to the rest of the league: it doesn’t matter if you won a championship, and it doesn’t matter how close the playoffs are – everyone is expendable.

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about that recently, touching upon the sudden firing of Malone and the state of coaching in the NBA.

“The criteria for getting hired, fired, I don’t know what it is anymore,” Lue said, per RG on X.

— RG (@TheRGMedia) April 9, 2025

Malone was definitely receiving negative reviews this year, but most people didn’t think he’d be fired at this point.

The Nuggets aren’t in the place they want to be, especially because Nikola Jokic is playing so well this year.

There have been complaints about the rotation and other choices Malone made.

A lot of people believed that he faced firing in the summer if the Nuggets didn’t turn things around and make a playoff push.

Instead, he was let go just days before the postseason.

Obviously, the firing might have major implications for the Nuggets.

It may have doomed their chances in the playoffs, but it could also put them in a better position.

This shows how much the Nuggets wanted a change and how much they didn’t like Malone’s performance.

Lue is probably safe with his job, especially because he has such a cozy and comfortable relationship with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.

But the league moves quickly, the NBA is a business, and things can change in the blink of an eye.

Lue isn’t going to think about that and will instead stay focused on leading his team into the postseason.

He doesn’t understand why the league works like it does, but he is paying attention to more important things.

The Denver Nuggets may have faced their fair share of challenges, but there is no doubt that Nikola Jokic has been playing fantastic basketball lately.

Legion Hoops summed up his recent run of games and reminded fans just how great he has been during the last seven games.

It all started with a 40-point, 13-rebound, 9-assist game, and then Jokic was off to the races with a slew of outstanding games.

The best moment came when Jokic posted 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

On Wednesday, Jokic produced 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, yet another triple-double and a sign of how dominant he is.

Jokic has been a walking triple-double this year and has a season average of 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game.

He may not be the frontrunner for MVP this year, but he is still easily one of the most impactful players in the NBA.

Jokic rarely has an off night, but he has been looking in fine form lately, which is exactly what the Nuggets need.

They are fighting hard to reach the playoffs and currently sit as the fourth seed in the West with a 48-32 record.

Nuggets fans recognize the team has had an up-and-down season, but they believe that if the Nuggets reach the postseason, Jokic will be able to lead them.

He has done it before, and he can do it again.

The West has never been so competitive, and the Nuggets haven’t looked this inconsistent in a long time.

But if Jokic is playing like this, everyone should fear Denver and what they can achieve.

The team only has a few regular-season games left before the playoffs.

How many more amazing numbers can Jokic produce between now and the start of the postseason?

After all they have been through this week, the Denver Nuggets really wanted a win on Wednesday night.

They got one when they took down the Sacramento Kings 124-116.

Following the game, Nikola Jokic talked about his team and gave a grave warning to the rest of the league who have counted the Nuggets out.

“People say that we were vulnerable, but the beast is always the most dangerous when they’re vulnerable. So, maybe he woke up the beast,” Jokic said, per DNVR Nuggets.

This is the last thing you want to hear if you’re an opponent of the Nuggets.

When they are at their best, Denver is a team that can defeat just about anyone.

Led by Jokic’s brilliant basketball IQ and skills, they can do anything and are a threat for many reasons.

The problem is that the team hasn’t looked like its regular self for much of the season.

Jokic has continued to play incredible, MVP-worthy basketball, but a lot of other problems have plagued the squad.

Was the firing of head coach Michael Malone the turning of a page and start of a new chapter?

Whatever happens next, Jokic has to be at the center of it all.

He will dictate how his team plays and the mindset his teammates have in the final games of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.

This quote from him proves that he hasn’t given up his belief in the Nuggets and is ready to fight hard.

Jokic is the heart and soul of this team, and they will follow if he leads.

It sounds like he is ready to do just that, and fans are cautiously optimistic to see what comes next.

Details Emerge About Nikola Jokic’s Frustration With Nuggets

Days after the firing of Michael Malone from the Denver Nuggets, more insight is coming out from inside the team and it’s painting a troubled picture of dysfunction and frustration.

A report from The Athletic said that many people, including Nikola Jokic, were upset about Malone and his “fiery ways.”

“The Nuggets’ locker room was a mess, with team and league sources indicating that the franchise’s most important players, including three-time league MVP Nikola Jokić, had grown frustrated and fatigued by Malone’s fiery ways,” the report said, per NBACentral.

There is no doubt that Jokic’s frustration played a huge part in Malone’s firing.

When the front office caught wind of Jokic’s feelings, they probably moved quickly to resolve them.

It is one thing to lose a head coach, but losing Jokic would be something else entirely.

He is one of the greatest basketball players of all time and arguably the best star in the league right now.

If he is unhappy and even contemplating leaving the Nuggets, something will have to be done.

Moving forward, the Nuggets will be sure to hire a new head coach who gets along with Jokic and makes him happy.

Nothing is more important than pleasing Jokic and keeping him in Denver as long as possible.

This report is worrisome for Nuggets fans because it proves that Jokic wasn’t happy with the team.

If his frustrations continue after Malone’s departure, could he think about packing his bags and heading to another team?

That would be downright devastating for the Nuggets, and they will fight hard to avoid it.

All eyes will be on the Nuggets for the playoffs and offseason to see how they make amends and keep Jokic pleased.

Details Emerge About Why Michael Malone Was Fired

What led to Michael Malone’s firing from the Denver Nuggets?

Everyone has been asking that question over the last few days and a clear answer hasn’t come to light, although people are discovering more reasons why the team and front office were upset with him.

A new report from The Athletic says that Malone’s “special treatment” of Russell Westbrook may have had a part in his firing.

“…All the while, Malone’s choice to continue supporting Westbrook — despite the frustration he was causing on and off the floor — ultimately led to a loss of credibility among the team’s key players. It was one thing when Malone handled Jokić and Murray with more leniency than the rest of their group, but affording Westbrook that sort of treatment, even with his Hall of Fame resume, wasn’t received well by some,” the report said, per NBACentral.

It sounds like not everyone agreed that Westbrook should be such a key part of the team’s lineup.

This is his first year in Denver, and he has bounced all over the rotation, sometimes starting and sometimes coming off the bench.

There is no doubt that he’s a talented player, but some felt that he didn’t deserve as much time and attention as he was getting from Malone.

While this may have been a contributing factor, there must have been something else at work here.

Other reports said the team was thinking of firing Malone earlier in the season, but held off because the Nuggets had an impressive winning streak.

Even before the season began, there were rumors of Malone and the front office not seeing eye to eye on roster choices.

In all likelihood, it was probably several things that led to Malone’s firing.

But now he is gone and the team is attempting to move on, hold onto their spot in the playoffs, and plot a future without him.

Russell Westbrook’s Future with Nuggets Is Reportedly ‘Uncertain’

The Denver Nuggets gave fans a first look at life without Michael Malone on Wednesday evening, and things seemed pretty good.

They took down the Sacramento Kings, which was a good sign and indication that the future might be okay.

But something telling happened with Russell Westbrook, and it’s a sign that he may not be with the team much longer.

Writing for The Athletic, Sam Amick and Tony Jones noted that Westbrook didn’t play in the closing moments of the game.

“In Wednesday night’s 124-116 win over the Sacramento Kings, Adelman benched Westbrook down the stretch of the fourth quarter, choosing instead to close with Pickett. Westbrook has a player option worth $3.4 million to return to the Nuggets next season, but league sources say his future with the organization is uncertain nonetheless,” Amick and Jones wrote, per NBACentral.

Westbrook put up five points, four rebounds, and four assists in the game against the Kings.

For the season, he is averaging 13.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.1 assists on 44.8 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from the three-point line.

This is his first season with the Nuggets, but could it be his last?

Over the last several years, Westbrook has had a tough time staying in one place.

After leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder, he moved to the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and now he is in Denver.

If he decides to part ways with the team, where will he head next?

Westbrook has a reputation as a hard-working player who is comfortable starting or coming off the bench.

He still gets criticized for some of his choices on the court, but he could be a key piece of a rotation, especially one with a lot of young stars looking for experience.

Was Wednesday’s benching a sign of things to come, or will Westbrook remain with the Nuggets next season?

Nikola Jokic Speaks Out About Michael Malone’s Firing

Denver Nuggets Media Day

Ever since Michael Malone was fired as head coach of the Denver Nuggets, everyone has wondered how much Nikola Jokic knew.

Was he aware that Malone’s firing was coming, or was he just as shocked as everyone else?

Speaking to the press on Wednesday night, Jokic opened up about what he knew and when he knew it.

“I knew a little bit before everybody. (Josh Kroenke) told me we made a decision. It was not a discussion, it was a decision,” Jokic said, per DNVR Nuggets.

It sounds like Jokic was told slightly before the general public, but he had no say in the matter.

Instead, Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke just told Jokic what was going to happen but made it clear that it was not a discussion, but a decision.

Malone was gone, and there was nothing anybody could do about it.

By all accounts, it seems that Jokic had a good working relationship with Malone, but now it is time to move on.

The first post-Malone game went well for the Nuggets on Wednesday.

They beat the Sacramento Kings 124-116 and remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.

During Wednesday’s game, Jokic posted 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, earning yet another triple-double.

The future of the team looks very murky, and some people are even questioning what will happen with Jokic.

Will he stick around with all the inner turmoil affecting the team?

If Wednesday night is any indication, Jokic is still fired up and ready to play for his team, no matter who the head coach is.

He didn’t know that Malone was leaving, but he is obviously making his peace with that and moving on.

Brian Windhorst Names Most Intriguing First-Round NBA Playoff Series

The NBA’s regular season is in the books, and now the marathon playoff season is set to begin with the Play-In Tournament on Tuesday.

There are a handful of very intriguing first-round matchups that were locked in on Sunday, and ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst named what he believes is the most intriguing series of the entire first round of the postseason.

During a Monday appearance on NBA Today, Windhorst claimed that the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers matchup as the No. 4 Vs No. 5 seeds in the Western Conference is the most intriguing first-round series.

“This is the best he (Kawhi Leonard) has looked to me, guys, since the 2019 season when he led the Raptors to the title.”

The Clippers won a hard-fought battle at the Golden State Warriors in overtime on Sunday to solidify the No. 5 seed while the Nuggets took down the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets to lock in the No. 4 spot, setting the stage for a new and exciting first-round battle in what should be a great matchup on the Western Conference postseason slate.

These two teams haven’t met in the playoffs since the Nuggets erased a 3-1 deficit in the bubble in 2020 to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

The Nuggets have been through a brutal stretch since the All-Star Break that culminated with them firing head coach Michael Malone after a decade at the helm, and despite leading the franchise to its first championship two years ago.

Leonard has been absent for multiple Clippers playoff runs in recent years due to injury, but Windhorst is right in pointing out that this could be the best he has looked since the 2019 title run with the Toronto Raptors.

It’s impossible to predict what will happen in the West, but every first-round matchup looks exhilarating.

Analyst Believes Nikola Jokic ‘Shouldn’t Win’ MVP This Season

Denver Nuggets v Houston Rockets

Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is one of the biggest basketball stars in the world and continues to dominate in games, even when his team has an off-night.

But is he the right choice for MVP this season?

According to Jason Timpf, Jokic should not be in the running for Most Valuable Player.

Writing on X, Timpf took Jokic to task for his defensive work in the second half of the season.

“Jokic completely mailed in the 2nd half of the season on defense. The worst work I’ve ever seen from him on the end of the floor,” Timpf wrote.

“Yes, he’s still the best player in the world. Yes, I know he’s capable of being a plus defender. No, he shouldn’t win MVP this year,” he added.

Yes, I know he’s capable of being a plus defender.

No, he shouldn’t win MVP this year.

— Jason Timpf (@_JasonLT) April 15, 2025

Jokic averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists on 57.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the three-point line this season.

He has one of the strongest stat lines in the league and is definitely one of the best of the best.

But there are still complaints about Jokic, even from loyal Nuggets fans.

To Timpf’s point, many people feel he doesn’t try hard when it comes to defense and essentially lets others get past him.

That is surprising because he is such a big player, and at 6-foot-11, he could bully just about anyone.

Perhaps it’s because he is tired of carrying his team, or he just doesn’t have the energy to always be terrific on defense, but Timpf isn’t the only one asking Jokic to change.

The MVP race has come down to Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with most people assuming the Oklahoma City Thunder will win in the end.

Jokic will have a presence in the postseason, and he might push his team far again, but there are areas of his game that can be improved.
