NFL suspends Chiefs’ Rashee Rice for 6 games to open 2025 season

According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (and many others), the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Rashee Rice will serve a six-game suspension to begin the NFL season.

The suspension is for a personal conduct violation stemming from a street racing crash in Dallas during March of 2024.

The league made it official with a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

There had been a great deal of speculation about the length of Rice’s potential suspension. Some reports indicated the league wanted it to be 10 games or more. Others said the league initially wanted an eight-game suspension.

The last hard information was that there would be a hearing on September 30 to determine its length. But then it became clear that the league and the NFL Players’ Association (NFLPA) were negotiating — and if an agreement could be reached, no hearing would take place.

Rice recently pleaded guilty to two charges in exchange for a five-year probation and a 30-day jail sentence. Now the league has its punishment in place. Rice will be eligible to play in the Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
