New Laptop Recommendations

It's not often that I ask for help from you guys, but here it goes:

I'm kind of in the hunt for a new laptop. My netbook screen cracked in multiple places a couple weeks ago, so I think I'll need a new computer soon.

I feel like I've "outgrown" my netbook; it's a pretty cheap Eee PC 1005HAB that doesn't have a CD drive or anything special like that.

I want to get a laptop that's relatively cheap (probably ~$500 range), has a CD drive and all your other standard features, is fast, and is just a good laptop for its price. I'm not into computer gaming or anything like that, so a fast processor would be nice, but doesn't have to be ridiculously amazing.

Could anyone give me some recommendations? Wingnut? 209? I know you guys are good with this kind of stuff. Thanks.

i don't have time today, but I'll pull a list together tomorrow morning. A cracked screen usually means a new one, the screens are almost a $100 by themselves.

Yeah, and I've had my laptop for like three years, so warranty is not going to help me.

Dell is the Apple of PCs, you pay for the name. They are of no higher quality than any other computer. You get more in a computer for your money if you buy something other than a Dell.

It all depends on what you want so I found several laptops at bestbuy for under $500 before tax. Everything I found has at least an i3 processor in it and 4GB of memory. The memory is the new standard and the i3 is apart of the current series for intel. It is the low end of the series, but if you want nothing more than basics it is good. If you want to use it for gaming you will need to invest one with an i5 at least. Nothing with AMD processors since they are not as good as intel, cheaper but the performance lacks.

An Apple Would be the best bet since its high quality however you would be paying a hefty price. if that is out of your price range then maybe a dell or a acer would be better for you.

np mdolszak. if anything its the top3 below the top one since all have i5 processors in them. The one I am seriously looking at is the Lenovo Yoga, which is a laptop and tablet in one. It will have windows8 so its release is not expected until later in the fall.
