The outcome of this game made me very sad. I was sure San Fransisco was going to win after that power outage. They are used to power outages, remember the game against the Steelers at Candlestick Park about a year ago? I do. :P
Regardless, it was a really good game. I have to criticize the four plays San Fransisco ran when they were less than ten yards away from the end zone. They have a veteran running back in Frank Gore, who had been doing well all night long, and he has always been their reliable running back. Why was he not a participant in at least one of these plays? They ran the ball for like a two yard gain on first down with LaMichael James, and that was the only running play. Then they tried to get the ball to Michael Crabtree, and we see how that went. I don't see why the went with two young guys at the end. I for one have seen too many dropped passes by young wide receivers, and too many fumbles by young running backs. Michael Crabtree has had a history of dropped passes during the few years he has been in the NFL.
LaMichael James might be an alright running back, but you have to go with the veteran players at this point in the game. No matter how much I dislike Randy Moss, I probably would have thrown to him in the end zone. He may not be very fast anymore, but he at least knows how to catch the ball, he just needs the opportunity to be given to him. If not Randy Moss on a passing play, you have to at least go with Vernon Davis. He didn't produce much for the 49ers this season, but I think there is no doubting his abilities. When I was watching that game, I felt like the 49ers kept on forcing the ball to the athletic ability they have with Michael Crabtree. A young speedy wide receiver is great, but if you thrown to him all night long, they are going to have your number eventually.
