MIAMI -- After picking up his fourth MVP trophy Sunday, Miami Heat star LeBron James gained a new appreciation for the rivalry his team has with the New York Knicks.

James, 28, became the youngest player in NBA history to win four MVPs after receiving 120 of 121 first-place votes by league media members and analysts. The lone other first-place vote went to Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.

It was the second time a player fell one vote short of an unanimous MVP selection, with Shaquille O'Neal also receiving 120 of 121 first-place votes in 1999-2000.

"It's probably a writer out of New York that didn't give me the vote," James said during Sunday's award ceremony at AmericanAirlines Arena. "I know the history between the Heat and the Knicks. So I get it."

Well, what was assumed is now official. LeBron James has been named this year's NBA MVP! It sucks that he was one vote shy of winning unanimously though.

Carmelo Anthony got one vote meaning Lebron James did not become the leagues first ever unanimous MVP.

Lebron joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain as only the 5th player to win the Most Valuable Player award four times.

Didn't I already say that? :P

And of course, the sports writer who voted for Carmelo Anthony came out and said that he was the one who voted against LeBron James. He was just looking to get his fifteen minutes of fame. How annoying...

I agree with LBJ winning regular season MVP. However, everyone is saying he is the current playoff MVP. do you agree with THAT?

I don't really see how that's relevant, but if I were to pick someone based on what I have seen so far in the playoffs, I would probably go with Stephen Curry... Not Kevin Durant, who I am guessing you're referring to? :P

Anyways, part of that is because we haven't seen that much of LeBron James. While Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were really playing well just barely getting past the first round, LeBron got a week off after the first round series sweep over the Bucks. That's the only reason why I wouldn't consider him the playoffs MVP as of right now. :P

Stephen Curry might be the playoff MVP right now, but I'm sure once the whole playoffs are wrapped up, Lebron will be the Playoffs MVP also.

Although i dont know what you guy are talking about, but, congrats to him.

Do you atleast know who LeBron James is?! LOL!

I really can't stand LeBron personally but he's clearly the best player in the league right now and its not even close. I like watching Durant play but he simply isn't as dominate as LeBron is. Durant is not as good as him defensively and he doesn't get his teammates involved like LeBron does. I'd still take Jordan over LeBron any day of the week!

With the outstanding season he just had, and with the crucial part he played in ensuring that the Miami Heat got the #1 seed, it is no big surprise that he won this award this year. His massive defensive improvements, especially towards the end of the season, really made a difference in helping to win the 27 straight games they did. I wonder if he will win the NBA Finals MVP award as well?

By the way, I have read that it was Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe who cast the one vote against him....
