Kings Emerge As ‘Likely Favorites’ To Land Veteran Guard

Since the start of the offseason, reports have said the Sacramento Kings are very interested in adding more support for their point guard position.
New reporting from Carmichael Dave, via Evan Sidery, proves that it continues to be true.
There is apparently “strong mutual interest” between Russell Westbrook and the Kings.
Is Sacramento the next stop for Westbrook, and how long will he last with the Kings?
Since the 2020-21 season, Westbrook has played for four teams: the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets.
His output has been mixed at all of those locations, but he seemed to be finding his footing with the Nuggets.
He averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists on 44.9 percent from the field.
However, his work in the playoffs was met with lukewarm reviews, and Westbrook wouldn’t commit to sticking with the team.
As has been the case for years, he was ready to move on and see what he could do with a different franchise.
The Kings could receive some help from Westbrook, and they wouldn’t have to pay him as much as he used to be worth.
This could be a cost-effective and smart move for them, as long as they don’t over-commit.
Between Westbrook and Schroder, the Kings will have a couple of time-tested vets running their backcourt, but will that be enough to get them to the playoffs?
If not, can we expect to hear about Westbrook moving again at this time next year?
