The Toronto Blue Jays announced via their official Twitter page that Jose Bautista will have season-ending surgery on his left wrist.

Bautista left Toronto's 8-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on August 25 with discomfort in the wrist. It was just his second game back after being sidelined since July 16 when the injury initially occurred.

Sportnet's Barry Davis tweeted that the recovery time for this type of surgery typically takes six months and that the team expects Bautista to make a full recovery and be ready for spring training.

In 92 games this season Bautista hit .241 with 27 home runs and 65 RBI.

The bad news for the Blue Jays doesn't end there. On Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced that Toronto draft pick Marcus Stroman will be suspended for 50 games after testing positive for the banned substance Methylhexaneamine. Stroman was selected 22nd overall in 2012 and was playing with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League.

This probably pretty much ends any chances of the Blue Jays making some kind of miraculous comeback this September and making the playoffs.
