Clippers, Jazz Announced Trade On Saturday

Los Angeles Clippers v Dallas Mavericks

The Los Angeles Clippers are making moves.

The Utah Jazz agreed to take one of their out-of-favor players in a salary-shedding move.

The Clippers reportedly will send P.J. Tucker, Mo Bamba, a future second-round pick and cash to the Jazz for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills, according to Shams Charania and Bobby Marks of ESPN.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 1, 2025

On paper, this shouldn’t move the needle that much for either team.

Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue will get some diverse threats in Mills and Eubanks.

Mills gives L.A. another playmaker and shooter off the bench, and with Kris Dunn struggling with injuries, the veteran could be serviceable.

He will also be reunited with former San Antonio Spurs teammate Kawhi Leonard.

As for the Jazz, they get some salary off their books and some draft compensation in the process.

Tucker has been away from the Clippers for a while now.

He grew frustrated about not getting to play and now will be a prime buyout candidate.

Though it’s been some time since he was on the court, multiple teams might be interested in his services.

His offensive performance has steadily declined over the years, but he remains a pesky and physical defender who can contend against forwards and some big men.

The Jazz are most likely looking to make more moves, so they’ll be a team to watch as the NBA trade deadline draws closer.

Kings, Jazz Are Reportedly Engaged In Trade Talks For Veteran

Sacramento Kings v Utah Jazz

The Sacramento Kings have been at the center of a lot of speculation and rumors for the last week, especially now that De’Aaron Fox is reportedly up for grabs.

What will the Kings attempt to do before next week’s NBA trade deadline?

According to Brett Siegel, per NBACentral, the Kings and Utah Jazz are engaged in “serious trade talks” around John Collins.

Collins has become an important part of Utah’s lineup, so what will the team demand in order to move him?

The Kings and Jazz are engaged in serious trade talks centered around John Collins, per @BrettSiegelNBA pic.twitter.com/aOFsMxVujj

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) January 30, 2025

Collins is averaging 18.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from the three-point line.

The 27-year-old forward is now in his second year with the Jazz and spent six seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before that.

His name has been tossed around as a potential trade target for several teams, and it sounds like the Kings are definitely pursuing him.

Although Sacramento might want Collins, it may be difficult for them to land him.

The Jazz will definitely be sellers before the deadline, but they won’t go easy during any negotiations.

They have made a habit of demanding a lot for all of their players.

Just a few years ago, they brought in a huge haul when they traded both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell away.

That means the Kings will need to get comfortable with giving up a lot if they really want Collins.

Would he be a good fit in Sacramento and provide them with the support they need as the playoffs approach?

Is Collins the only star the Kings are looking at?

The team’s front office is obviously busy, but we don’t know which direction they will take.

Insider Reveals What He’s Hearing About Walker Kessler Trade Talks

Memphis Grizzlies v Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz are a tough team to negotiate with and committing to a trade with them can be very difficult.

When they have their mind made up about one of their stars, they rarely change it.

Evan Sidery is reporting that the Jazz’s view of Walker Kessler hasn’t changed and the 23-year-old big man is “not available” for any potential trade this season.

That is what Sidery said last month.

Despite many teams wanting Kessler, Utah isn’t budging.

Over the past month, nothing has changed regarding the Jazz’s stance on potentially trading Walker Kessler.

Utah’s big man is not available, and a league source firmly reiterated that statement this week to me. https://t.co/1LGV4RGu0A

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 24, 2025

Kessler is averaging 11.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

With a strong field goal percentage (72.7 percent and 50.0 percent from the three-point line), Kessler is seen as one of the best young big men in the league.

His youth is one of his most valuable assets because he is just 23 and could grow even more in the years ahead.

Many analysts view him as a franchise player, someone a team can build around.

There have been several teams inquiring about Kessler, notably the Los Angeles Lakers.

But the Jazz are reportedly not changing their stances on the third-year star and want to hold onto him.

At least that is what they are saying.

This could be public posturing that forces other front offices to put up more in a potential trade.

Instead of second-round picks, the Jazz might be signaling that they want first-rounders and win-now talent as well.

This isn’t the first time the Jazz have fiercely held onto their stars.

They might be the worst team in the West right now, but they know that won’t be the case in a few years, especially if they have Kessler still on the roster.

The trade deadline is sneaking up so will the Jazz re-evaluate their Kessler contract before February 6?

Odds Show The Betting Favorite To Land Collin Sexton In Trade

The Utah Jazz have been a horrible team this season and have a 10-28 record, but they only have the fifth-worst record in the NBA, and they obviously would love to be able to draft Duke University star Cooper Flagg this summer.

They’re expected to be sellers ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, and one player who has been rumored to be on the move soon is guard Collin Sexton.

The Orlando Magic are the betting favorites to land Sexton via trade, per NBACentral.

Sexton, 26, is a quick speedster guard who is putting up 18.2 points a game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 42.0 percent from 3-point range this season.

He may not be a starter on a good or great team, but at worst, he is a sixth-man type of player who can be a spark plug for a number of clubs across the NBA.

The Magic have unexpectedly jumped out to the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference, and they have done so with one of the NBA’s best defenses, despite injuries to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

But if they are to take the next step and become contenders, they will need an injection of offense, and perhaps Sexton is the man to do just that for them.

They currently rank just 27th in offensive rating and last in points per game, and other than Jalen Suggs, their backcourt is seriously challenged offensively.

The NBA’s trade deadline will be at 3 p.m. New York time on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Insider Says Jazz Veteran Is Likely To Be Traded At Deadline

Brooklyn Nets v Utah Jazz

After more than five seasons with the Utah Jazz, Jordan Clarkson might be leaving the team.

The former Sixth Man of the Year could be nearing his departure from Utah, according to new reporting from Evan Sidery.

Writing on X, Sidery said Clarkson has been “boosting his trade value” over the last two weeks with an average of 18.6 points and 4.6 assists on a 60.5 true shooting percentage and 48.5 percent from the three-point line.

Sidery added:

“Clarkson is very likely to be traded from Utah by the deadline with active interest coming from multiple contending teams.”

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) December 31, 2024

Clarkson has averaged 17.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists during his years with the Jazz.

Before that, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

For a few seasons, it seemed like Clarkson would never leave the Jazz.

He has been with the team through thick and thin and was a member of the roster when they sat at the top of the Western Conference standings and continues to play hard even now as they are 14th in their conference.

As noted by Sidery, Clarkson will receive interest from multiple teams, although it’s not clear which one will be lucky enough to acquire him.

This is a sign that the Jazz are contemplating big moves with their roster before the upcoming NBA trade deadline.

They have typically been unwilling to shake things up and have been sitting on the same roster.

But even though they are willing to move Clarkson doesn’t mean they will do it for cheap.

You can expect the front office to demand a lot in return for Clarkson and his skills.

2 Teams Are Emerging As Top Trade Partners For Jordan Clarkson

Utah Jazz v Los Angeles Clippers

Former Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson has done great things for the Utah Jazz since joining the team in 2020.

For a while, it seemed like he was considered untouchable by Utah’s front office, but it sounds like that view has changed.

According to The Athletic, via Courtside Buzz, Clarkson has become “an attractive trade target for multiple teams” and the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as “the top of the list of potential suitors.”

REPORT: Jordan Clarkson has become an attractive trade target for multiple contending teams, with the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers emerging at the top of the list of potential suitors.

How would Clarkson fit in LA or Denver?
🤔

Via. The Athletic pic.twitter.com/sc3MlKjZPB

— Courtside Buzz (@CourtsideBuzzX) December 19, 2024

The Lakers and Nuggets want Clarkson and they can’t be blamed for that.

He has posted 15.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during his 15 games, mostly off the bench, in 2024-25.

The fact that the Jazz are willing to part ways with him shows they are taking the concept of a rebuild seriously.

Going to either the Lakers or Nuggets makes sense for Clarkson because he could add a lot to either roster.

Fans remember that the Lakers were the first team he played for after being drafted in 2014.

During his four years with the Lakers, Clarkson shot 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Is it time for a reunion with him and his first team or would it be smarter to go to Denver?

Whether it be the Lakers or Nuggets that get Clarkson, they will need to be prepared to play ball with the Jazz.

Utah has seemingly taken pride in driving a hard bargain during trade negotiations, so they will not go easy on either team vying for Clarkson.

Will any trade featuring Clarkson end up being beneficial for all teams involved?

Jazz Have Reportedly Made A Decision About Walker Kessler’s Future

Utah Jazz v New Orleans Pelicans

The Utah Jazz have been unwilling to make any trades over the last few seasons, even as they have struggled to climb out of the bottom of the Western Conference.

The team is currently the 14th seed in the West and has little chance of reaching the playoffs this year.

Because of that, people thought they’d finally commit to some changes at the trade deadline.

They might, but one player will remain in Utah.

According to Evan Sidery, Walker Kessler will not be available on the trade market.

On Tuesday morning, Sidery wrote:

“The Jazz view Kessler as a key young piece for their future.”

The Jazz star is posting 10.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game.

One name who will not be available on the trade market after league-wide exploratory interest: Walker Kessler.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) December 10, 2024

This is Kessler’s third season with the Jazz, and it’s been his best yet.

But that didn’t guarantee he would remain with the team.

In fact, some people felt his spectacular season meant Kessler would be leaving Utah because he would be more attractive on the trade market.

The Jazz have been very hesitant to do anything beyond acquiring draft picks and young players who they can trade away in the future.

But the future hasn’t come yet, and Kessler will still be in Jazz for the time being.

Still, that doesn’t mean the Jazz won’t hear offers for other players.

When they do, they likely won’t move quickly because they have become notorious for being difficult during trade talks and unwilling to budge on their demands.

Kessler isn’t leaving, but other players might.

However, they won’t be leaving without other teams offering a lot in return.

Insider Details Jazz Asking Price For Walker Kessler

San Antonio Spurs v Utah Jazz - Emirates NBA Cup

For the last couple of seasons, it’s felt like the Utah Jazz have always been on the verge of making some big deals that will shake up their team and change their trajectory.

One player who has been talked about a lot is big man Walker Kessler, who is now in his third season with the Jazz.

According to Evan Sidery, the Jazz are contemplating sending Kessler away, but it won’t be cheap.

Sidery said Utah will “hold a high asking price for Walker Kessler in potential trade talks.”

He wrote:

“Utah previously desired multiple first-round picks or a top prospect alongside draft capital.”

Kessler is a hot commodity with an average of 10.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

There are plenty of teams who would jump at the chance to sign him, especially since he is only 23 years old and has plenty of seasons left in him.

It’s not surprising that the Jazz would ask for a lot in exchange for Kessler because they have always been a team that drives a hard bargain.

They are sitting on tons of great, young talent and draft picks and aren’t willing to part ways with them for a low price point.

The team is currently the last in the West, and they know they don’t have to rush into any trades.

They are lucky enough to just sit back and only commit to packages that are perfect for them.

Kessler might not be the only Jazz player packing his bags this season.

We don’t know who will leave Utah but we do know this: the Jazz will demand a lot for each and every one of their players.

Jazz Veteran Is Expected To Generate A Strong Trade Market

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - MAY 06: A fan has the logo of the Utah Jazz painted on her face watching Game Four of Round Two of the 2018 NBA Playoffs as the Houston Rockets played the Utah Jazz at Vivint Smart Home Arena on May 6, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. With 21 games in the books for the Utah Jazz during this 2024-25 NBA regular season, Lauri Markkanen and company are sporting an ugly record of 4-17, with little chance of this team turning things around in order to make a push for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Jazz don’t have much incentive to win games for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign, as Utah is in the running to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, where Cooper Flagg of Duke University is the top prize to be had, with many believing he could be the next young star on the professional level.

That said, the Jazz will be highly motivated to move some of their star players ahead of the NBA trade deadline on February 6, meaning that notable players like Walker Kessler, Jordan Clarkson, John Collins and Colin Sexton could be on the move.

According to Evan Sidery of Forbes, Sexton will get a lot of trade interest around the league in the coming months, as he’s playing at a high level on a very tradeable and attractive contract.

Collin Sexton will generate a very strong market from contending teams as a starter or score-first sixth man.

Sexton is averaging 16.9 points while shooting 42.7% on threes for the Jazz.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) December 5, 2024

It’ll be interesting to see if the Jazz end up becoming one of the biggest sellers in the NBA ahead of February’s trade deadline and what players on the roster may be headed elsewhere.

With so many teams in the league needing help in the frontcourt and backcourt, Utah will likely be working the phones over the next few weeks, and plenty of intriguing opportunities will be presented to them.

Jazz Have Reportedly Begun Shopping 3 Players On Trade Market

Golden State Warriors v Utah Jazz

For the last couple of seasons, the Utah Jazz have been quietly making deals behind the scenes.

But this season, they might do something much larger and more ground-shaking than that.

Evan Sidery said that the Jazz have begun shopping Collin Sexton, John Collins, and Jordan Clarkson on the trade market.

According to Sidery, “Utah will be one of the NBA’s top sellers as they hope to bottom out to pair a young star in the draft alongside Lauri Markkanen.”

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) December 5, 2024

All three of these stars have been with the Jazz for at least a few years.

They have all had various levels of success in Utah, with Sexton starting an important second chapter of his career there, Clarkson becoming a vital roleplayer, and Collins coming into his own, especially on defense.

While not as big as Lauri Markkanen, these are three significant players in Utah, so it shows how serious the team is about getting better.

They have been very hesitant to commit to any trades over the last several seasons, and some fans have protested that move.

The fans think Utah should be making massive changes so they can get more support around Markkanen while he is in his prime.

It sounds like the front office is finally heading in that direction.

While the Jazz might part ways with Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins, that may not be enough to turn this season around.

Utah is currently the 14th team in the West with a 4-17 record, and the chances of them reaching the playoffs this season have almost completely slipped away, no matter what trades they make.

Jazz GM Doesn’t Hold Back His Thoughts About Luka Doncic Trade

Los Angeles Lakers Introduce Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber & Markieff Morris

The Dallas Mavericks shook up the NBA world a couple of weeks ago prior to the trade deadline by sending 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie in a trade nobody saw coming and everybody is still trying to make sense of.

Fans around the world have an opinion on this move, which includes those within the league itself as the Utah Jazz general manager recently shared his thoughts about the move during his team’s game against the Lakers earlier in the week.

During the Jazz broadcast on Wednesday, team general manager Justin Zanik said he didn’t want to speak for the rest of his colleagues around the league, but he thinks they all agree with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka in seeing the Doncic trade to the Lakers as a “gift.”

Utah Jazz GM Justin Zanik discussed the Luka Dončić trade, saying that while he didn't want to speak for his front office colleagues, they agreed with Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka that it was a "gift." pic.twitter.com/uc9POqqKQG

— Grant Afseth (@GrantAfseth) February 13, 2025

As good as Anthony Davis is, there is zero precedent for a player of Luka’s caliber being traded at his age, especially coming fresh off his first NBA Finals appearance.

Doncic has been eased into the team after missing over a month with a calf injury and has averaged 15 points per game in 23.5 minutes per game of playing time over his two games in LA so far.

Dallas’ front office and ownership team have dogged Doncic on the way out to attempt to save face and get the fans back on their side, which has only made matters worse.

Two weeks isn’t nearly enough time to come to terms with this deal, and fans might never be able to make sense of it unless the Mavericks shock the world and achieve an incredible amount of success over the next year or two.
