Jaguars roster analysis: Team needs on offense heading into the 2026 offseason

gettyimages-2255733465.jpg

Despite a disappointing first round exit in the playoffs, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2025 season can generally be considered a success. With a new front office and coaching staff in place and a significant overhaul of the roster, the Jags jumped from four wins to thirteen and won the AFC South. The ultimate goal of course is a Super Bowl, but Liam Coen and James Gladstone will be satisfied with the foundations they have built in year one.

With the offseason already underway for all but four franchises, attention turns to further roster reconstruction. In the first of two articles, we break down which positions the Jaguars will look to address via free agency and the NFL Draft – beginning with offense:

Running Back

"When I got drafted here I wanted to be one of the best running backs to ever put on the jersey, I wanted to be remembered like the guys like Fred Taylor."

Travis Etienne Jr. doesn't know what the future looks like but told us he "absolutely" still wants to be a Jaguar. pic.twitter.com/gOPMmL6AVF

— Rachel Phillips (@rachphillipstv) January 12, 2026

This is no slight on the performance of the ground game in Jacksonville in 2025. Lead back Travis Etienne had his best output since his first year on the field, delivering the third 1,000-yard rushing season of his career. Capably backed up by fourth-round pick Bhayshul Tuten and an added scramble element to Trevor Lawrence’s skillset, the Jaguars finished middle of the pack in total rushing yards (1,956) and fourth in the league in rushing touchdowns (22). Consistent, physical but maybe lacking an explosive element, the Jags were able to run the ball enough for Lawrence to take the next step as a passer.

A first-round pick in 2021, Etienne had his option picked up by Jacksonville and is an impending free agent this offseason. Considering his consistency and proficiency as a pass-catcher, there’s a school of thought that he could command more money elsewhere than Gladstone would be willing to offer him. If Etienne does move on, then the Jaguars will be in the market for another ball carrier.

Whether that would be a lead back as a direct replacement depends on the team’s confidence that Tuten can carry a heavier workload. LeQuint Allen Jr., another rookie, had a modest role in 2025 but has flashed as a third down back on occasion. I’m fairly confident the Jaguars won’t want to pour resources into the position, and we could be looking at more of a committee approach in 2026. Either way, it’s probably the biggest need to address.

Wide Receiver

“He’s hitting it hard… We still expect him to play on both sides of the ball.”

James Gladstone on Travis Hunter’s rehab process and the energy he brings each day. pic.twitter.com/KRguDGVynR

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) January 14, 2026

The in-season trade and subsequent extension for Jakobi Meyers, coupled with the ascension of Parker Washington, means that the need for receiver reinforcements is a lot less urgent than it could have been. Meyers, Washington and Brian Thomas Jr. look set for significant roles going into next season, with all three having created chemistry with Trevor Lawrence either this past year or the one before. Thomas will hope his regression in 2025 was nothing more than a sophomore slump – if we’re banking on raw talent, we can be confident of a BTJ renaissance this coming season.

Behind those three, the picture gets murky for two reasons. Firstly – and this will be a repetitive theme for the duration of his time in Duval County – is the team’s plans for Travis Hunter. Gladstone has always been confident in Hunter’s capability to play both sides of the ball for Jacksonville, something he doubled down on last week. The unknown is the number of snaps they anticipate for him; if Hunter is predominantly considered a receiver, then the Jags have their four major pieces in position. If they want him more on defense, they may look to use him in more selective, impactful scenarios in the passing game.

Regardless, the team has two receivers heading into free agency that need to be mitigated for. Dyami Brown’s one season on the team delivered just 227 yards, and Tim Patrick had even less production despite playing in 16 games this past year. More bodies at the receiver position will be coming in, of that there is no doubt; the level of investment, though, will give us a clue about their intentions for Hunter.

Guard

#Jaguars Total Flags by Player

9- Patrick Mekari
6- Jourdan Lewis
5- Walker Little
5- Trevor Lawrence
5- Chuma Edoga

— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) November 11, 2025

Cole Van Lanen was a nice surprise, wasn’t he! A shot in the dark when Jacksonville sent the Green Bay Packers a seventh-rounder for him in 2022, Van Lanen locked down the blindside in 2025 and parlayed that success into a three-year, $55m extension. With Anton Harrison starring at right tackle and the versatile Walker Little good enough to cover both spots, the outside of the Jaguars’ o-line looks set.

Things are a little less certain on the interior, despite some good money being poured into the position group. Ezra Cleveland is probably a lock to return due to solid performances, and a $7.4m cap hit should he be cut this offseason. Patrick Mekari was less consistent at right guard in his first year since arriving from the Baltimore Ravens, but, like Cleveland, he has a contract that is prohibitive for the Jags to get out of. That flips this time next year, so the smart move for Gladstone and co. would be to find some talent to develop behind the two veteran guards. How many come in depends on Wyatt Milum, who, as a third-round pick, missed the start of the season due to injury. 96 snaps in 2025 is not a large enough sample size to make a firm decision either way.

At center, the Jaguars were pleased with what they got in Robert Hainsey, and even happier with seventh-round rookie Jonah Monheim, who stepped in capably in Hainsey’s absence at various spots last season. Hainsey’s familiarity with Coen’s system was a big plus, and I don’t see the Jags changing things at the pivot.

Jaguars end-of-season 3-round mock draft

imagn-27923511.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ magical 2025 season has come to an end after the team fell 27-24 to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

While the loss will sting for a little while, the future in Jacksonville has never looked brighter. Head coach Liam Coen is firmly in the discussion for NFL Coach of the Year, Trevor Lawrence had the best season of his career, the defense has playmakers all over the place — and all of that while missing their star draft pick, Travis Hunter, for their entire hot streak down the stretch.

What a season from Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence:

💥 13 wins in first season as HC
💥 Won AFC South
💥 Passed for 4,000 yards & 29 TDs pic.twitter.com/90E8asQoER

— B/R Gridiron (@brgridiron) January 11, 2026

Getting Hunter back into the mix legitimately makes this Jacksonville roster one of the league’s best entering the 2026 season, but there are some areas the team could upgrade. However, the trade up for Hunter last year did cost them their first-rounder this year, so GM James Gladstone will have to (barring another trade) find contributors to a hopeful AFC contender on Day 2 in Pittsburgh.

That said, Gladstone did net two additional third-round picks in a draft-day trade last season, which leaves him with four total picks to play with this go-around.

Let’s dive into a few players I believe could be in play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in this three-round 2026 mock draft.

Round 2, Pick 56: Akheem Mesidor, Edge, Miami

The Jacksonville defense had a great year under first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, but it struggled in one vital area that will need to improve in 2026. The Jaguars had just 32 sacks on the season (27th) and had just two players finish the season with at least 4 sacks (Hines-Allen: 8, Armstead: 5.5).

The Jags need to prioritize players that can consistently get after the quarterback in the 2026 draft, and one name that could be an interesting target is the Canes’ Akheem Mesidor.

Mesidor had 10.5 sacks as a senior in 2025 and totaled 33.5 sacks in his career between his stays at West Virginia and Miami. However, his career sack total is so high because this was Mesidor’s sixth year of collegiate football, and he will be 25 years of age on draft night. That is a pretty significant red flag for most teams as it really expedites the timeline on a player’s development and caps their potential extension since he will be 29 by the time that comes.

I don't care if Akheem Mesidor (#3) is eligible for AARP benefits, I want him on my team pic.twitter.com/HR7riiaxvD

— Ian Cummings (@IC_Draft) December 31, 2025

That said, a team that expects to contend over the next few years makes sense for this scenario because they can afford the potential short-term impact while in a “win now” window. Not only does Jacksonville fit that category, but GM James Gladstone has already proven he will prioritize players who raise the team’s floor over all else, and Mesidor will do that. He’s a first-round talent that could absolutely be available when the Jags are on the clock at 56.

Round 3, Pick 81: Dontay Corleone, DT, Cincinnati

On paper, the Jags’ biggest need on the roster is on the interior of the defensive line, as they got very little push from the inside this season. Quarterbacks were consistently able to step up into the pocket to avoid the talented edge duo of Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, which is a major reason the sack numbers and pass defense ranked in the bottom third of the league.

Adding Mesidor and allowing Walker to kick inside on third down is a great start, but to double up on guys that can push the pocket with someone like Cincinnati defensive tackle Dontay Corleone would be a home run for Gladstone.

The power and strong base of #Cincinnati NT Dontay Corleone (6-1, 335, rSR) showed up frequently against Nebraska. Primarily received mid-round grades from scouts. pic.twitter.com/s8KeH3so6Y

— Jordan Reid (@Jordan_Reid) August 29, 2025

Once thought of as a fringe first-round pick early in his career, Corleone dealt with injury woes the last two seasons that likely pushed his stock into this mid to late Day 2 territory, and he would be a great fit for what this Jacksonville team needs on the inside. He’s a guy who can actually create pressure from the A-gap and was featured in Bruce Feldman’s annual “Freaks List” three times due to his reputation in the weight room. That physical presence and motor would be a great get at a huge position of need this late in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Round 3, Pick 88: Daylen Everette, CB, Georgia

The Jaguars have some decisions to make when it comes to their cornerback room this offseason. Montaric Brown, Greg Newsome and Montaric Brown are all in need of new contracts, and there is a world where none of them return in 2026. That leaves just Jourdan Lewis, Jarrian Jones and Travis Hunter in that corner room going into next year. Even if they bring back Brown (which I think they will), the team needs more depth, particularly someone who can play on the boundary.

This is a really deep corner class, so there will be talent to be had on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, and Georgia’s Daylen Everette could be in play depending on how the board falls. Everette has prototype size and long arms, and he has some coverage versatility. Tackling in space could use some cleaning up but he is very willing in run support so some coaching up in the pros will go a long way. Everette played a lot of football in the SEC and has made big plays in big moments for the Bulldogs throughout his career. He would be a great rotational piece to add at this stage of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Rewatching the Bama game and I got to say Daylen Everette INT is a crazy good catch. #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/rl2n5ZLkW7

— Top Tier Georgia (@TopTierUGA) December 23, 2025

Round 3, Pick 100: Keylan Rutledge, Guard, Georgia Tech

The offensive line for Jacksonville performed well in 2025, all things considered, but the guard position could use a depth upgrade going into 2026. The team’s acquisition of Patrick Mekari last offseason resulted in mixed results from the veteran at right guard, while left guard Ezra Cleveland will be playing on the final year of his contract in 2026. The depth behind them this season was also rough, as the team used Walker Little as their emergency right guard when Mekari went down, a position he had never played before.

The Jaguars would be smart to add an experienced guard in the 2026 NFL Draft, and Georgia Tech’s Keylan Rutledge could be a great get. Rutledge was a three-year starter with the Yellowjackets and the leader of an offensive line that ranked seventh in rushing yards amongst power five teams. He was just announced as a 2025 ESPN All-American. His physical style of play would be a welcome addition to an interior in Jacksonville that is more finesse than power.

Continuity Ensues in Jacksonville as Grant Udinski Withdraws From Browns Opening

imagn-26790032.jpg

Another candidate has withdrawn his name from the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching search this offseason. However, for the first time this hiring cycle, one less name on the market represents good news for Jaguars fans. Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has reportedly become the third high-profile candidate to remove himself from consideration for Cleveland’s open head coaching role.

Jaguars OC Grant Udinski has informed the Browns that he is removing himself from consideration for their HC position, per a source.

Udinski has a new deal in place with Jacksonville that will bump his pay for next season, but the Jaguars are allowing him to continue pursuing… pic.twitter.com/6CDaggeI4a

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 26, 2026

As reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, Udinski is no longer in the running to become the Cleveland Browns’ next head coach after withdrawing his name from the pool of candidates.Udinski had recently emerged as a finalist for the role, alongside Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, and Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken before ultimately removing himself from consideration.

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel previously withdrew from consideration for the Browns’ (and Buffalo Bills’) head coaching searches, as did newly hired Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter.Despite a reported pay raise and a new contract to remain in Jacksonville through the 2026 season, the Jaguars are not yet out of the woods in their efforts to retain the 30-year-old coordinator. The Buffalo Bills completed their first interview with Udinski on Sunday for their open head coaching position.

It’s undoubtedly a smart (and savy) move for the young offensive mind to be deliberate about where he accepts his first head coaching opportunity. Given the Browns’ salary cap situation, front office makeup, and questionable roster outlook, it makes sense that Udinski would pass on the role until a more favorable landing spot becomes available. Additionally, removing himself does nothing but make him more valuable in future hiring cycles, indicating to future hiring organizations (such as the Bills) that they are also being interviewed for ideal fit. Only time will tell how the Buffalo opportunity unfolds, but for now, the development is good news for Udinski, and excellent news for Jacksonville across the board.

What say you, BigCatCountry? Will Udinski get the Bills role or will we see him donning the Duval Til We Die gear on the Jacksonville sidelines in 2026? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

2025 Jaguars Awards: Vote on Comeback Player & Rookie of the Year

gettyimages-2239009846.jpg

To put a bow on the 2025-26 NFL season, we’re asking Jacksonville Jaguars fans for their picks on typical season-long awards — MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, etc.

The league’s official awards will be announced at the 15th annual NFL Honors event on Feb. 5.

  • Look to see who won Jaguars 2025 MVP HERE
  • Look to see who won Jaguars 2025 OPOY & DPOY HERE

Next up: Jaguars 2025 Rookie of the Year (ROY)…

… and Jaguars 2025 Comeback Player of the Year (CPOY).

For ROY, I voted for LeQuint Allen Jr., who was drafted by Jacksonville with the 236th overall pick last April. The former Syracuse star immediately became a glue guy for the Jaguars, as his competitive toughness stood out from Week 1 on, both on special teams and on third downs as a pass protector. It’s impressive for any seventh-round rookie to capture a sizeable role before the start of the regular season. Truthfully, Travis Hunter probably made the largest impact of any Jaguars rookie this season despite his missed time due to injury, but I want to credit Allen for the mark he made in 2025.

For CPOY, I voted for Trevor Lawrence, who finished each of the previous two seasons on injured reserve. He was recently named one of five finalists for the 2025 NFL MVP award.

What are your thoughts, Jaguars fans? Let us know in the comments below!

Jaguars roster analysis: Team needs on defense heading into the 2026 offseason

gettyimages-2256490363.jpg

Despite a disappointing first round exit in the playoffs, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2025 season can generally be considered a success. With a new front office and coaching staff in place and a significant overhaul of the roster, the Jags jumped from four wins to thirteen and won the AFC South. The ultimate goal of course is a Super Bowl, but Liam Coen and James Gladstone will be satisfied with the foundations they have built in year one.

With the offseason already underway for all but four franchises, attention turns to further roster reconstruction. In the second of two articles we break down which positions the Jaguars will look to address via free agency and the NFL Draft – this time looking at the defense:

Cornerback

Correction **Greg Newsome** can't be serious. WYD man?!?! https://t.co/ho2datCSM5 pic.twitter.com/KMTDzzZBlE

— 🜲 🜲 🜲 (@fsh733) January 11, 2026

The Jaguars defense was a nice surprise in 2025. Under first year coordinator Anthony Campanile, the Jags saw improvement almost across the board, including shooting up from nine turnovers the year before to 31 last campaign – second in the NFL. The unit also dropped from 25.5 points per game allowed to 19.8 – a large reason why Jacksonville earned an AFC South title and a playoff appearance.

One position that still has question marks surrounding it is cornerback. The midseason trade of Tyson Campbell to the Browns for Greg Newsome seems to be a straight swap that, if anything, saw a regression in the secondary. Perhaps Newsome grows into the role (if the Jaguars retain him – Newsome is an impending free agent), and James Gladstone has more than earned the benefit of the doubt based on his body of work. But regardless, the team will still consider this position as a high priority this offseason.

Jourdan Lewis was an excellent offseason addition and has thrived in the nickel. Jarrian Jones’ versatility is valuable, Montaric Brown should be considered a depth piece, and there’s Caleb Ransaw, who we never saw as a rookie too. Add Travis Hunter to the mix even on a part-time basis, and the Jaguars have the numbers. But they’ll be in the market for a true outside starter to push this group into the elite tier in 2026.

Interior Defensive Line

Gimme my hat ! #StayHungry pic.twitter.com/X3WldX9lYC

— Arik Armstead (@arikarmstead) January 5, 2026

The Jags boasted the NFL’s best run defense last year, allowing an average of just 85.6 yards per game – a franchise record. In fact, they were only the third team since 2000 not to allow a running back to get 75 yards on the ground all season, showing the work that Campanile and his staff have done on this side of the ball.

A collective effort from the front seven, hopes will be high for a similar output this coming year. But there are questions to address on the interior of the defensive line; Arik Armstead is a potential post-June 1st cut, a move that would save the Jags approximately $15m and only incur a cap penalty of less than $5m.

Armstead and DaVon Hamilton did most of the heavy lifting in the defensive tackle spots last year, and it’s probably one of the thinnest groups top to bottom on the Jags’ roster. Further complicating issues is the dropoff from Armstead following his hand injury; was he playing banged up, or is it the beginning of a modest decline for a star name who will be 33 before the end of next season? It’s a difficult question for the front office to answer – and it should also be noted that Armstead was amongst the best in the league in terms of interior pass rush last year. But whether it’s a starter or more depth, the defensive tackle spot will be added to this offseason.

Safety

What a play by Andrew Wingard to win it pic.twitter.com/vJ2zTwoMbM

— NFL (@NFL) November 24, 2025

Considering how good the Jags’ defense was in 2025, it feels like we’re picking holes when trying to find areas needed for improvement. But there’s no denying that the team was far more susceptible against the pass than they were the run last year. The turnovers masked a lot of troubles on the back end; no team’s defense was challenged as much aerially as Jacksonville’s was (635 passing attempts), and a unit that was elite against the run was 19th against the pass.

Middle of the pack isn’t awful, but there’s room for improvement. Then you also have to factor in the contract status of Andew Wingard, who shortly becomes a free agent. Dewey is a fan favorite, beloved in the locker room, and will probably be happy to agree to new terms if the price is right. If not, it leaves the team with Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, and 2025 sixth round pick Rayuan Lane to man two positions.

Gladstone loves Lane, a special teams standout who will be given every opportunity to climb the depth chart. But I would argue this is one position that would benefit from some veteran experience, particularly if Wingard departs.

Honorable Mention: Linebacker

Sign me up for Devin Lloyd in process blue 👁️

“…88.4 PFF grade that ranked third among linebackers. A complete linebacker, he ranked inside the top 10 at the position in PFF run-defense, coverage and pass-rush grades.”pic.twitter.com/LFK0IfbLl6

— Justin Dolloff (@JustinDolloff) January 27, 2026

As a group, the Jaguars are well stocked at the linebacker position. But it is worth noting that Devin Lloyd hits the market. The jury was out on Lloyd before this season, and he silenced any doubters with a career year in Duval County. Strong against the run and elite in pass pro, Lloyd exiting would leave a hole in this defense that I’m not sure Ventrell Miller, Dennis Gardeck, Yasir Abdullah or Jack Kiser are ready to fill.

To recap, QB1 took home MVP, Comeback Player, and Most Improved Player, and he was the runner-up for three other accolades. PDub was voted as OPOY and Clutch Player; Agent Zero earned DPOY and Best Highlight. You could certainly say that Lawrence, Washington, and Lloyd are three players who defined the season for Jacksonville.

It’s still crazy to think that the Jags won 13 games largely without Travis Hunter, but the No. 2 overall pick left with something by taking home BCC’s Good Guy Award thanks to his infectious energy and beaming smile.

In hindsight, I should’ve created a poll for “Jaguar of the Year” to be awarded to any one individual. Who best represented the team and the city over the course of the calendar year? I think we can assume Coen would’ve earned the honor for 2025, so it’ll be something to look forward to next time.

Defensively, the Jaguars’ secondary underwent significant in-season shakeups due to the losses of Hunter, Jourdan Lewis, Eric Murray, and the absence of Caleb Ransaw. Additional injuries not reflected on IR, including Devin Lloyd, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead (both of whom dealt with hand and wrist injuries) also affected on-field performance. Walker and Armstead, in particular, had their snaps and overall impact limited midseason as they worked back to full strength.

When the Titans hired Brian Callahan, the only coach on the staff who had been a head coach before was his daddy. Now, they have offensive and defensive coordinators who have been head coaches. Why the Jaguars Picked Perfect Draft to Trade Away 1st-Round Pick (Jaguars on SI)

Simply put, the 2026 NFL Draft looks incredibly weak at the top. Each May after the draft, the though amongst many is that the next class will be even better. That narrative is normally shredded by the time January and February roll around, and this year is no different. … As one AFC Scout recently told Jaguars On SI, in this year’s class a team could “draft the same kind of player in the 50s that they could at 25”.

The Kwesi Konundrum: Why Did It Play Out Like This? (Wide Left)

We tend to think of leverage in terms of total dollars or in guaranteed money. But it is very much the case that Flores could demand different items or more concessions. Seifert reported that Flores earned a contract paying him over $6 million a year, likely the highest-paid coordinator in the league, so it’s clear he used the leverage to get paid. But he may have done more with it, too.

The Healthy Season That Wasn’t: The Truth About Jacksonville’s 2025 Injury Luck

Success for an NFL franchise often comes down to surviving longer than its opponents. With the 2025-26 Super Bowl set to kick off in just over a week, the team at RotoWire examined how injuries shaped the past NFL season.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars dealt with significant injuries in 2025, they also ranked among both the healthiest and the most injured teams in the league.

As RotoWire outlined:

We combined injury-related data from Spotrac and Pro Football Reference (PFR) to calculate team injury burden across the 2025 regular season. Using PFR injury-report information, we calculated man-games missed at the team level (player-games lost due to injury designations). From Spotrac, we pulled each team’s season injury player count to provide context for how broadly injuries impacted the roster. Finally, we calculated man-games per player to highlight which teams dealt with longer absences per injured player versus teams that absorbed injuries across more players.
Screenshot_20260129_194854.jpg

Based on raw injured reserve data, the Jaguars ranked as the NFL’s third-healthiest team in 2025, with only nine players missing games due to IR designations, according to RotoWire. For total games missed, the three healthiest rosters were the Las Vegas Raiders (83 games missed), the Los Angeles Rams (88), and the Jaguars (117).

However, when viewed through the lens of games missed per injured player, Jacksonville ranked fourth-worst in the league, with an average of 13 games lost per IR designation. Despite that, the salary impact of those missed games represented a relatively minimal hit to the Jaguars’ roster.

Financial Impact on IR

Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-5.59.16%E2%80%AFPM.png

While few would argue that Jacksonville experienced an injury epidemic in 2025, many would acknowledge that the team dealt with multiple stretches of injuries at key positions and at inopportune moments. The Jaguars were fortunate to avoid significant injuries at the league’s more high-profile and costly offensive positions. However, the loss of wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter for more than half the season had a clear impact, particularly after the team traded up to select him in the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, the early-season injury to Brenton Strange came at a challenging time for the offense and further complicated the search for passing game consistency.

In many ways, Jacksonville was remarkably healthy in 2025 when measured by season-ending injuries resulting in IR stints. The financial impact of their IR losses was minimal, as most involved players were still on rookie contracts. However, many of these injuries led to extended time on IR. Fortunately for the Jaguars, none of the week-by-week or IR injuries involved quarterback Trevor Lawrence or starting running back Travis Etienne. This stability allowed the offense to remain relatively consistent, even as the core of pass catchers, offensive line, and defense absorbed the brunt of the impact. From a salary cap perspective, it’s worth noting that the losses of these “cheap labor” rookies forced Jacksonville, a team already tight on cap space (thanks, Baalke), to add or retain veteran depth to replace Hunter, Ransaw, Strange, and others. This included players such as TE Quintin Morris, WR Austin Trammell, WR Jakobi Meyers, CB Keith Taylor, and S Kahlef Hailassie.

When reviewing the team’s week-by-week injury reports, a larger picture of the season’s impact emerges, with 26 players missing games due to injury. Many of those affected were expected to play key roles for Jacksonville in 2025, including rookie safety Caleb Ransaw, who was projected to start opposite Eric Murray. Despite the injuries to Travis Hunter and Ransaw, the Jaguars were relatively healthy in terms of long-term absences. With former Buffalo Bills head strength and conditioning coach Eric Ciano brought in last offseason, Jacksonville will look to continue rehabilitating this rookie class back to full health. Notably, four of James Gladstone’s first six draft picks spent time on IR this season, including offensive lineman Wyatt Milum (five games) and running back Bhayshul Tuten (two games), both of whom are still missing time.

Daily Prowl: Jaguars legend Fred Taylor gives opinion on Trevor Lawrence

Good evening!

Here is today’s roundup of the latest news, rumors, and analysis on your Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jaguars Question of the Day: What is the roster’s No. 1 need? (Big Cat Country)

In this writer’s opinion, protecting Trevor Lawrence should be the team’s top priority until a championship-caliber offensive line has been assembled. It’s never a bad idea to invest in players who can help put points on the scoreboard. Plus, since offensive production is far more stable than defensive production from season to season, that side of the ball should probably be the focus. Never mind the fact that Jacksonville already has a franchise quarterback and a leading offensive mind at head coach. Maybe build around those guys?

Jaguars Legend Loved What He Saw From Trevor Lawrence in 2025 (Jaguars on SI)

“I was excited for Trevor. I was excited for the organization, but more importantly, I was excited for the city of Jacksonville to have a winning product on the field. They’ve given that team so much support over the years and to finally get that feeling of what it’s like to win again, that got me excited the most. But Trevor is the man, and I was happy he was able to show that this season. Going forward, I think he’ll be able to continue putting on great displays for everyone.”

Jaguars’ 2025 positional review: Defensive tackle (Action Sports Jax)

Someone to monitor is newcomer Matt Dickerson. He didn’t make too much noise on the scoresheet, but the staff seems to like him enough to make him a starter down the stretch. That said, he only recorded four pressures, but his Pass-Rush Win % was nearly twice as high as Hamilton’s (6.0%).

Re-signing unsung Jaguars pending free agent should be a no-brainer (Black & Teal)

The bottom line is that Quintin Morris isn’t the kind of player who will routinely get the spotlight. However, he became a valuable contributor in Jacksonville last year. That’s why re-signing him should be a priority this offseason.

Redrafting first two rounds of 2025 NFL class: 64 new picks (ESPN)

The Jaguars weren’t planning on re-signing Devin Lloyd, and his big season likely hasn’t changed that since he’ll garner interest in free agency. Plus, the team wants to move on eventually from Foyesade Oluokun. [Jihaad] Campbell — who had 80 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as a rookie — could be part of the succession plan at the second level.

Top 2026 NFL free agents available at each position (CBS Sports)

Lloyd’s 25 quarterback pressures in 2025 are more than double the next closest single-season total in his career (12 as a rookie in 2022). His five interceptions were tied for the second-most in the league in 2025, one of which was a 99-yard pick-six of Patrick Mahomes in a Week 5 victory on “Monday Night Football.”

Ranking All 50 Super Bowl Quarterback Performances of the 21st Century (The Ringer)

The Super Bowl is the ultimate small-sample-size theater in sports. Especially for quarterbacks, whose careers can be made by memorable showings or forever tarnished by poor play—or even just one regrettable moment. Eli Manning could be headed for Canton based almost entirely on what he did in two games. Cam Newton didn’t jump on that fumble, which went down as the defining play of his career. For better or worse, quarterbacks are judged on what they do in the biggest games, and there’s no bigger game than the Super Bowl.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — who do ya got winning the big game?

The Patriots have an NFL MVP finalist in Drake Maye and arguably the league’s best game-managing head coach in Mike Vrabel, plus an experienced staff and a hungry roster. New England is deserving of its Super Bowl berth… but Seattle is a different beast. They’ve fielded the best defense in the sport under second-year coach Mike Macdonald, and journeyman quarterback Sam Darnold has proven that he has what it takes to deliver in big moments. The Seahawks are loaded and have looked like the eventual champions for some time now. They’re favored by 4.5 points over the Patriots.

My final score prediction for Super Bowl LX: Patriots 13, Seahawks 23.

My favorite longshot bet for Super Bowl LX MVP: Seahawks backup running back George Holani (+22500 odds on FanDuel). He could get carries over Kenneth Walker III at the goal line and end up with a surprising box score.

Devin Lloyd heading into free agency after career year; LB prefers Jaguars return, but ‘no talks’ yet (NFL.com)

“I want to be where God wants me to be,” he said. “For me, being back in Jacksonville, my mom lives out there. You know, obviously, my lady is out there. You know, there are a lot of pros to being out there. And so, for me, it’s just about being in the right spot. Ultimately, that’s the No. 1 most important thing, being in the right spot.”

One roster move each AFC team should make during the 2026 NFL offseason (NFL.com)

JAX: Re-sign or replace LB Devin Lloyd. … He fit perfectly in Anthony Campanile’s defense. The Jags seem unlikely to use the franchise tag on Lloyd ( projected at $28.2 million, per Over The Cap). If he prices himself out of Jacksonville, there will be a gaping hole in the middle of Campanile’s D that needs to be filled.

Jaguars’ 2025 positional review: Edge rusher (Action Sports Jax)

Many will look to Josh Hines-Allen’s 8.5 sacks as a knock on his play this season, but he was as good as ever, posting a career-high 95 pressures in 2025. Hines-Allen’s 95 pressures ranked second at his position, while also ranking seventh in Pass-Rush Win % (19.2%).

How Liam Coen Kept His Word to the Jaguars (Jaguars on SI)

“I think that Liam Coen’ come in and completely transformed the culture. He’s been so fantastic for the team. … Team is the most important thing,” Tony Khan said. “But if I were to pull one player as a particular example, he said he would get the best from Trevor Lawrence, and he absolutely has. And I think that’s embodied in seeing Trevor Lawrence nominated for the Comeback Player of the Year and nominated for MVP.”

Super Bowl LX: Key one-on-one matchups for Seahawks-Patriots (ESPN)

To undress the Patriots’ defensive approach against their star receiver, expect to see Smith-Njigba sent in motion often in this game — doubly so on the first few series. If Gonzalez is shadowing him, the Seahawks will motion JSN into the slot to force nickel corner Marcus Jones to endure the one-on-one matchup. Jones is a great slot corner, but the Pats will need to dial up true double-teams to handle Smith-Njigba if he suddenly becomes a true slot receiver in this game.

Former Jaguars playing in Super Bowl LX

The Jacksonville Jaguars join the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Houston Texans as the only active NFL franchises that have never appeared in the Super Bowl.

Reaching the big game a near-impossible accomplishment, so we should be happy for any former Jags who make it to the big dance at all — even if it’s for a different team. Unless their name starts with a “J” and ends with “alen Ramsey,” of course.

Here is this year’s list of former Jaguars competing for a Super Bowl ring.

K’Lavon Chaisson

Chaisson is best known in Jacksonville as the player the local team drafted ahead of Justin Jefferson in 2020. He’s also known as the guy who literally trained like crazy. But in New England, Chaisson is known as a havoc-creator off the edge and an integral part of the Patriots’ defense.

Like just about everyone on the @Patriots' defense, K'Lavon Chaisson has gone from very good to thermonuclear in the postseason. pic.twitter.com/LUoGr2LWiJ

— Doug Farrar ✍ (@NFL_DougFarrar) January 22, 2026

Chaisson was never productive in Jacksonville (his year-to-year sack totals: 1, 1, 1, 2), but he tallied 5 sacks on a one-year deal with Las Vegas in 2024 before proving himself again with 7.5 sacks this season. It’s been quite a breakout campaign for the former first-round pick. When including his playoff production from this season, Chaisson has near-identical totals in sacks (10.5 to 10), quarterback hits (27 to 31), and tackles for loss (13 to 18) when comparing his 2025-26 campaign to the first five years of his career.

Jason Myers

Old Man Myers is still holding it down! It feels like forever ago that Myers was kicking for the Jaguars (it was 2015-17). The now-34-year-old spent one season with the Jets in 2018 but has spent the past seven seasons with the Hawks. Myers tied for the league lead in field goal attempts (48) and ranked second in makes (41) during the 2025-26 regular season.

Chad Muma

Jacksonville’s former 70th overall pick was waived during final roster cuts and claimed by the Colts in late August. Muma suited up for five games but bounced between the active roster and the practice squad until the Patriots signed him to their own active roster in December. We probably won’t see him at linebacker unless a New England starter gets hurt, but keep an eye out for #49 on special teams.

D’Ernest Johnson

After playing for the Browns for the first four seasons of his career, Johnson spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Jaguars as a backup running back and special teams contributor. The USF product ultimately averaged 3.4 yards per carry during his stint in Jacksonville. Johnson jumped from the practice squad in Baltimore to Arizona to New England during the 2025-26 season, and he remains on the Patriots’ practice squad today — but practice squad players *do* get a ring if their team wins the final game.

Joshua Dobbs

I can’t be the only one who completely forgot about (or subconsciously blocked out) the Jaguars’ 2019 trade for Dobbs. It made some sense at the time — Nick Foles had just broken his clavicle, and Mason Rudolph had just won the Steelers’ starting quarterback job. Ultimately, however, Jacksonville traded away a fifth-round pick just for Dobbs to back up Gardner Minshew for a season before being waived the following year. Since then, Dobbs has signed contracts with the Steelers, the Browns, the Lions, the Titans, the Browns again, the Cardinals, the Vikings, the 49ers, and the Patriots. He currently serves as Drake Maye’s backup.

Shaquill Griffin

Another practice squad member, Griffin hopped back and forth between coasts during his playing career. After playing college ball at UCF, Griffin was drafted by Seattle and spent four seasons there. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2019 and signed with the Jaguars in 2020, starting all 19 of the games he appeared in over a two-year span. Griffin then spent time with the Texans, the Panthers, and the Vikings before returning to the Seahawks at the start of this season.

Doug Marrone

Marrone, the sixth full-time head coach in Jaguars history, has a chance to win his first championship since helping the London Monarchs win the World Bowl in 1991. The Bronx-raised former offensive lineman currently serves as the offensive line coach for his good friend Mike Vrabel. Git’r done, Doug!

OH MAN where do I even start with this Jags stuff...

First off, gotta say it's HILARIOUS watching K'Lavon Chaisson finally figure it out in New England after being a complete bust for Jacksonville. You draft a guy 9th overall and he gives you 5 sacks in FOUR YEARS, then suddenly he's a monster for the Patriots?? Classic Jags luck right there. At least we can say we drafted him ahead of Justin Jefferson... wait no that makes it worse LOL

The Devin Lloyd situation is interesting though. Dude had a CAREER year - 5 picks, 25 QB pressures, a 99-yard pick six against Mahomes?? And they're just gonna let him walk?? I get it, the projected franchise tag is like $28 mil which is insane for a linebacker, but come on. You finally get a guy producing at an elite level and you're worried about the price tag?

Also love how the article tries to spin their injury situation as "relatively healthy" when they had FOUR of their first six draft picks on IR. That's not healthy, that's just the expensive guys staying upright while your depth gets destroyed.

Trevor Lawrence finally having a legit season is great for him though. Fred Taylor's comments were nice - that city deserves a winner after all the garbage they've sat through over the years.

Who y'all got in the Super Bowl? I'm taking Seattle 23-13. That defense is NASTY and Darnold has been clutch when it matters. Vrabel's a great coach but the Seahawks are just built different this year.

What to Know and Where to Watch NFL Honors: Coen, Lawrence Finalists (Jaguars.com)

Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence are finalists for three of the NFL’s most-prestigious honors – honors that will be announced Thursday night in San Francisco, capping a Super Bowl/Pro Bowl week in which the Jaguars were heavily involved in multiple postseason honors.

5 Jaguars who didn’t live up to expectations in the 2025 season (Black & Teal)

Little was the Week 1 starter at left tackle in 2025. Early on, it was clear that he was outmatched. The Houston, Texas native struggled so badly that he was eventually benched in favor of Cole Van Lanen. He got a chance to prove himself at right guard late in the season, but he was once again unremarkable.

Common Trend Seems to Be Emerging for Jaguars in Early Mock Drafts (Jaguars on SI)

A common selection for the Jaguars in mock drafts thus far has been, above all else, one name: Texas Tech defensive tackle Lee Hunter. With the Jaguars not having a selection until No. 56, they are not included in many mock drafts. But for those that do dive into the second round, the Jaguars have seen Hunter’s name pop up quite a few times.

Jaguars’ 2025 Positional Review: Linebacker (Action Sports Jax)

This season, he was a little overshadowed by Lloyd’s production, but Oluokun still finished sixth in Run-Stop % (9.7%) and third in PBUs (6) among linebackers, according to Pro Football Focus. His two forced fumbles ranked Top-5 as well. Oluokun is the very definition of a three-down linebacker, making plays in coverage and against the run.

Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl: What Jaguars can learn from matchup (Florida Times-Union)

The Seahawks drafted Walker at No. 41 in 2022 and Zach Charbonnet (injured) No. 52 in 2023 and the Patriots selected TreVeyon Henderson No. 38 last year. Something to keep in mind if the Jaguars lose Etienne.

2026 NFL Free Agency: Top landing spots for the five best running backs (PFF)

New [Cardinals] head coach Mike LaFleur brings with him the experience of working under Sean McVay, and the diverse offensive philosophy that comes with it. Last season, the Rams ran the eighth-most outside runs in the NFL during the regular season, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Etienne would flourish in a scheme that systematically attacks the outside, evidenced by his 90.5 PFF rushing grade on outside runs since entering the league.

2026 NFL Free Agency: Predicting the highest-paid free agent at every position (PFF)

As offenses have become more creative with how they manipulate defenses with personnel and disguise, the necessity to have an all-around talent at linebacker, capable of being effective on an every-down basis, has become vital. Devin Lloyd is just that.

2026 NFL free agency: Players each team should prioritize this offseason (CBS Sports)

Jacksonville’s biggest need is on the back end of the defense, even if Travis Hunter is going to play more cornerback in Year 2 than he did before getting hurt as a rookie. The Jags are pretty set at corner, so safety seems like the way to go. [Jalen] Thompson is a really nice player who could be a good fit for Anthony Campanile’s unit.

The 12 X Factors That Could Decide Super Bowl LX (The Ringer)

Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis III is one of the better defensive backs in the league, with the physicality and ball skills to disrupt any receiver. But if Darnold sees him matched up with Smith-Njigba or Shaheed without any help over the top, I expect we’ll see Darnold take some deep chances against him. Davis leads the playoffs in defensive pass interference calls, with three, and has cost his defense 63 yards on those calls. A double move is almost certainly coming against Davis, and he’ll have to be his most disciplined to avoid being called for another backbreaking penalty.

Jaguars QOTD: What’s your go-to Super Bowl food?

Super Bowl LX is just a few days away. At this point, we’re all just twiddling our fingers waiting around until kickoff.

The top question on my mind is, “What to eat?”

I’m content with wings, burgers, sliders, dogs, bratwursts, pigs in a blanket, pizza, dip, chips, you name it. I have no idea what my preference would be, though, or what I should bring to the potluck I was invited to. What say you?

What is the best food to eat on Super Bowl Sunday?

My answer: I spent entirely too much time debating between burgers vs wings (it’s like debating between MJ vs Bron; why can’t I just appreciate both?). Ultimately, I think wings are the top Super Bowl food because they’re the best food for watching the sport in general. I don’t know how else to explain it, but “wings + beer + football = a great time” makes just as much sense in my head as “1 + 1 + 1 = 3.” It just works. Should I just show up to the potluck with Wingstop?

13 Wins, Zero Awards: Jaguars Snubbed at 2025 NFL Honors (Big Cat Country)

Lawrence receiving zero first-place votes, while Justin Herbert receives one, is simply weird. It’s understandable that Trevor may have been passed over for Herbert for the Pro Bowl vote based on the timing of when that vote takes place, the fan voting aspect with the size of each team’s market, and Lawrence’s uneven play heading into the Jaguars’ week 8 bye week. But with an entire season of tape and data available to us, for someone to grant Herbert a first-place vote while Lawrence receives none is simply odd.

The Year of the Coach: Why this NFL season was different from the rest (The Athletic)

MVP Matthew Stafford was never an MVP candidate until he was coached by McVay. He threw more touchdown passes in 2026 than in any of his previous 16 seasons, and this was the second time in three seasons that he received MVP votes. And Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence entered the MVP conversation for the first time after scoring the third-most total touchdowns in the NFL, with Coen’s guidance.

Seven NFL teams positioned to get hit hardest by free agency in 2026 (NFL.com)

The Jaguars had an exciting season, winning the AFC South under new head coach Liam Coen and with a late-year surge from Trevor Lawrence . And there’s good news for the front office heading into 2026: Jacksonville only has 18 impending free agents, tied for the second-fewest. The trouble, however, comes with its wallet — $11.4 million over the cap — and with the names on their free agent list.

Sixty bets for Super Bowl 60 to get you ready for Seahawks-Patriots (ESPN)

AJ Barner anytime TD scorer, Barner UNDER 25.5 receiving yards (+800): I think Barner will be kept in to protect quite a bit, as the Patriots have been ramping up their blitz rates over the last several weeks. But Barner is still a great red zone threat with his huge frame, and he takes the Seahawks’ tush push carries, so he could score even if held without a catch in this game. This is a cheeky negatively correlated look that relies only on one player, but it still pays out 8-1. — Solak

13 Wins, Zero Awards: Jaguars Snubbed at 2025 NFL Honors

gettyimages-2256490241.jpg

Jacksonville entered Thursday’s NFL Honors ceremony with growing national recognition, following their rebound 13-win 2025 AFC South Championship season. But ultimately, the organization left without the respect we all knew would continue to elude them. Head coach Liam Coen was named a finalist for the 2025–26 Associated Press Coach of the Year after guiding one of the NFL’s most impressive turnarounds, turning a four-win 2024 Jaguars team into a four-loss unit just one year later. Franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence entered the night a finalist for both Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year following a resurgent season, following offseason AC joint sprain surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. Special teams standout Logan Cooke, Jacksonville’s nominee for Walter Payton Man of the Year, was also recognized for his impact on and off the field.

Yet, despite having four finalists across the NFL’s most prestigious awards, the Jaguars came away empty-handed, finishing 0-for-4 at the ceremony. A frustrating, yet expected outcome for an organization that spent the season proving it belonged on the league’s biggest stages with little recognition. In the end, the honors went elsewhere: Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was named league MVP, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was titled Comeback Player of the Year, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel claimed Coach of the Year, and Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner was named NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year.

AP NFL Most Valuable Player Votes (MVP)

  1. Matthew Stafford 366 points (24 first-place votes)
  2. Drake Maye 361 (233)
  3. Josh Allen 91 (24)
  4. Christian McCaffrey 71 (5)
  5. Trevor Lawrence 49 (0)
  6. Justin Herbert received the remaining first-place vote

Now it should be clear that Matthew Stafford deserved the MVP award this year. The 2025 first-team All-Pro ended the regular season with 46 passing touchdowns on the year, becoming the fourth quarterback in NFL history to have at least 45 passing touchdowns and under 10 interceptions in a season. He also joined 2007 Tom Brady as the only players to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns, passing yards, and TD-INT ratio over the last 50 seasons. There was truly not much to argue with that selection. The top placements for Drake Maye and Josh Allen also hold merit in my book. Yet, Lawrence receiving zero first-place votes, while Justin Herbert receives one, is simply weird.

AP Comeback Player of the Year Votes (CPOTY)

  1. Christian McCaffrey 395 points (31 first-place votes)
  2. Aidan Hutchinson 221 (9)
  3. Dak Prescott 167 (6)
  4. Trevor Lawrence 130 (2)
  5. Stefon Diggs 40
  6. Philip Rivers and Chris Olave each received one first-place vote

McCaffrey, a first-team All-Pro, ended the 2025 campaign with 311 rushes for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also leading the NFL in receiving yards by a running back with 924 on 102 catches, plus seven receiving touchdowns. 2,126 yards from scrimmage with 17 touchdowns from a running back, while essentially being a 1k receiver and 1k rusher simultaneously, makes total sense as a shoo-in for this award. DT Aidan Hutchinson returned to the field this year after suffering a broken leg in October 2024, recording his career-best 14.5 sacks. He also led all NFL players in pressures (100). Based on performance and name value, those top two placements seem to be justified.

However, Dak Prescott receiving triple the number of first-place votes as Lawrence is a tough evaluation, though understandably a close call to make when only glancing at the stat sheet.

CPOTY.jpg

Lawrence’s 4,007 passing yards were 545 fewer than Prescott’s, while Dak had a better completion percentage, passer rating, and fewer interceptions. However, Lawrence ended the season leading a 13-win team, while Dak’s Dallas Cowboys fell to 7 wins, 9 losses, and a tie. Dak’s 32 total touchdowns were also 6 fewer than Lawrence’s 38. Prescott also had the league’s eighth-ranked run offense supporting him, while the Jaguars lived on Lawrence’s shoulders for much of the second half of the year (18th-ranked run game). As an aside, what media member gave first-place votes to Philip Rivers and Chris Olave? I won’t address Rivers’ vote as it’s wholly unserious, but Olave ended the year eighth in the NFL for both receiving touchdowns (9) and receiving yards (1,163) on a pass-happy 6-11 team.

Coach of the Year Votes (COTY)

  1. Mike Vrabel: 19
  2. Liam Coen: 16
  3. Mike Macdonald: 8
  4. Kyle Shanahan: 6
  5. Ben Johnson: 1

The Jaguars’ historic turnaround season, unfortunately, came at a time when the New England Patriots, led by Mike Vrabel, also underwent a significant turnaround. Vrabel claimed this award for the second time in his coaching career, taking a 2024 four-win Patriots team to 14 wins in 2025. However, something must be said for the path taken to get to those 14-wins, with New England clearly having one of the league’s easiest schedules, then beating Justin Herbert, Jared Stittamm, and CJ Stroud to reach the Super Bowl. That’s not to say that New England faced no adversity in 2025. Losing DT Milton Williams to injury for a month and a half, LT Will Campbell for a month, LG Jared Wilson for 2 weeks, and LB Robert Spillane being injured for a month are notable. However, all NFL teams go through injuries similar to this while not having the league’s easiest strength of schedule.

Comparatively, Jacksonville lost their top draft pick, WR/CB Travis Hunter for two-and-a-half months, their next addition S Caleb Ransaw for the entire season, and S Eric Murray, CB Jourdan Lewis, and TE Brenton Strange for a month-plus each. They also lost DE Travon Walker and WR Brian Thomas Jr. for three weeks each and C Robert Hainsey, RT Anton Harrison, OL Walker Little, LB Devin Lloyd, and CB Montaric Brown for two games each while facing the ninth-hardest schedule in the NFL.

With Coen’s close loss, Jacksonville’s night ended without the top trophies, like the 2025 NFL season. However, it didn’t end without validation. The respect didn’t come in 2025, but the league is finally paying attention.
