The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans are set to square off in Week 13 of the 2025 season.

“It’s definitely felt a little bit throughout being here in my short time in Jacksonville,” Liam Coen said of the rivalry on Monday. “The division means something. The divisional games, you can feel that there’s just a different level, which is what you want … you know that it’s going to be a four-quarter football game.”

“We know what this is going to be. This is going to be a dog fight.”

Sunday will be the Jaguars’ first matchup against first overall pick Cam Ward. Steven Ruiz of The Ringer wrote a good piece about him (and Trevor Lawrence) recently.

“He’s very decisive,” defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said Thursday. “He’s done a great job with his feet the last few weeks too, but he’s a tremendously accurate thrower and a very mature decision maker in my opinion at this point for a young guy.”

“He’s keeping a lot of plays alive with his feet, so he makes you work, just like all the other great players at that position. He makes you work, obviously with the plan in the pocket to defend him and then trying to mix and change your coverages because he sees it really well.”

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Can Jacksonville keep its lead in the AFC South?

imagn-27694500.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And do you expect them to remain atop the AFC South for the rest of the season?

The Jaguars moved into first place last week thanks to their win over the Titans and the Colts’ loss to the Texans.

Now, Jacksonville and Indianapolis are tied for the division lead at 8-4 (the Jags hold the tiebreaker for record against common opponents).

The Athletic’s playoff simulator gives Liam Coen’s squad a 42% chance to win the division and an 83% chance to make the playoffs. A win this weekend would raise those numbers to 65% and 96%, respectively; a loss would drop those numbers to 19% and 71%.

“One week at a time,” Coen said Sunday. “We’re giving ourselves an opportunity to play meaningful games in November and December, and ultimately that’s all you can ask for in this league.”

According to Jaguars PR, this week’s game against the Colts will be just the third occurrence of a regular season game being hosted in Jacksonville in December or January where both teams enter the matchup with a 0.666 win percentage or better. A meaningful game indeed.

Jaguars NFL power rankings entering Week 14

imagn-27716183.jpg

All of a sudden, Jacksonville is in first place in the AFC South.

The 8-4 Jaguars, winners of three straight and four of their last five, will clash for the divisional lead this weekend with the 8-4 Colts, losers of two straight and three of their last four. Liam Coen’s Jags have all the momentum entering this monumental matchup.

As Week 14 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

CBS Sports: 8 (last week: 13)

From Pete Prisco:

They lead the AFC Sorth. Who saw that coming? They have a big one this week with the Colts.

Pro Football Talk: 9 (11)

From Mike Florio:

They’re quietly surging, with the biggest game yet coming this weekend against the Colts.

USA Today: 9 (13)

From Nate Davis:

They’re 4-1 since their return from London and can take outright possession of the AFC South’s top spot by beating the Colts on Sunday. Not enough credit being funneled into Duval County.

Bleacher Report: 10 (14)

From Maurice Moton:

Last Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars finished the game without a turnover, the first time they’d done so since Week 7. To be a more consistent team, the Jaguars must protect the football while their offense racks up points.

Over the last five weeks, Jacksonville has averaged 29.2 points, winning in two blowouts and two overtime outings. Head coach Liam Coen should emphasize ball security in the team’s final five games.

Those final games are pivotal. The Jaguars still have two games with similarly 8-4 Colts and a trip to Denver in Week 16. That trio of contests will determine if the Jags can hang on to first place in the AFC South.

The Ringer: 11 (12)

From Diante Lee:

I’ve gone to every length to dismiss the Jaguars’ 2025 season as pure gobbledygook—something not worth taking seriously at all. But the Jaguars are now in first place in the AFC South, and with two games still to play against division rival Indianapolis, Jacksonville feels like the team in control of its playoff destiny.

If Jacksonville wants to be taken seriously, next week’s game against Indy is the time to do it. The Colts are vulnerable, and Jacksonville’s passing game looks functional for the first time in months. It’s time for quarterback Trevor Lawrence to take the reins here and put this team in true contention.

Fox Sports: 11 (13)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

An easy win over the lowly Titans was their third straight. And they’ve now won four of five, giving them plenty of momentum heading into a division showdown against the Colts.

Yahoo Sports: 12 (14)

From Frank Schwab:

The Jaguars don’t do anything at an elite level. They’re pretty good at stopping the run, and they’re tied for third in takeaways on defense. The rest is about average. The ups and downs of Trevor Lawrence have been well documented. But they keep winning and find themselves tied atop the AFC North. They host the Colts on Sunday, and a win would get everyone paying attention to Jacksonville as a possible division champion.

NFL.com: 12 (14)

From Eric Edholm:

The good news: The Jaguars won easily, even in a sloppy performance. The bad? Jacksonville’s health situation is a bit dicey right now. Travon Walker, Arik Armstead and Patrick Mekari were inactive against the Titans, and the Jags lost Walker Little and Parker Washington on offense and long snapper Ross Matiscik to injuries during the game. The timing couldn’t be worse, with the suddenly slumping Colts coming to town with the AFC South hanging in the balance. The Jaguars have earned the opportunity to play in meaningful December games, but how healthy will they be this week and for the final kick toward the postseason? A Jacksonville win over Indianapolis would put the team in the division driver’s seat, but Trevor Lawrence, who played well on Sunday, might need to repeat that level of performance in Week 14 for it to happen.

Sports Illustrated: 12 (18)

From Conor Orr:

Now that Ben Johnson has taken his shirt off, other first-year playcalling wunderkinds are on notice. Liam Coen wants to spend some more time in the gym first. Respect.

ESPN: 13 (14)

From Mike DiRocco:

X factor for final stretch: Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen

It took Hines-Allen 11 weeks to get his third sack, which gave him a franchise-record 56 for his career. In the past two weeks, however, he has had three sacks and a league-high 16 QB pressures — one more than Cleveland’s Myles Garret . The Jaguars need Hines-Allen to maintain that surge because of injuries to defensive end Travon Walker (knee) and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (hand). Walker hasn’t practiced in two weeks, and Armstead couldn’t play with a cast on his hand against the Titans. Hines-Allen will have to carry the pass rush, especially in Sunday’s critical game against Indianapolis with the AFC South lead on the line.

The Athletic: 14 (14)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

It’s amazing how much the Jags have riding on a Week 14 game. But after handling their business against the Titans, they have a 66 percent chance of winning the division if they beat the Colts next week, compared to a 19 percent chance if they lose.

The Jaguars’ average rank this week is 11.2 (last week: 13.9).

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts stats, matchup preview

gettyimages-2242634836.jpg

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14, we sat down with Chris Shepherd of Stampede Blue to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: The Colts began the season 7-1 with 33.8 points per game (PPG) but they’re 1-3 with 21.8 PPG over their last four contests. Beyond a tougher schedule, what led to this decline?

Better opponents have played a part but also defenses are adjusting to what Indy is doing and so far the offense has yet to develop a counter. Early on it felt like Daniel Jones was great under pressure and Shane Steichen was giving him answers for everything on every play. In the last month it seems like teams are heating Jones up and instead of there being a quick win option underneath, Jones is trying to navigate free rushers while his receivers are running slow-developing deep routes.

So teams are loading the box to stop Jonathan Taylor and blitzing Jones and it’s working. Personally I feel that the Colts have gone to 12 personnel too often, taking slot receiver Josh Downs off the field in favor of a blocking tight end. Downs is too talented to take off the field in any situation that isn’t short yardage.

The defense has actually been much better of late, which is the opposite of what the Colts were earlier in the season. If the offense gets back on track, the Colts could be a really difficult team to deal with.

Question 2: How have injuries to DeForest Buckner and Sauce Gardner impacted Lou Anarumo’s defense?

Sauce has played well but it’s pretty clear he isn’t completely comfortable. That said, his presence allowed Anarumo to call a lot of man coverage, something he wants to do.

But losing Buckner has been a far bigger blow. Buck blows up runs and is almost impossible to shut down when you block him one-on-one all day. He’s just so good and his loss is felt on almost every down. The Colts actually have solid rotational DTs behind him, but Buck is just so good it’s impossible for them to replace what he gives you with any combination of players.

Question 3: If you were gameplanning against the Colts, which areas would you look to exploit?

If I’m the Jaguars this week I’m loading the box and sending the blitz at Jones until Indy shows they can beat it. It’s still possible Jonathan Taylor takes one 80 yards to the house on a play you thought you had him stopped for a short gain on. But it’s possible to keep him around 4.0 YPC if you sell out stopping him.

On offense, I find Grover Stewart before each snap and run the ball away from him. If I’m not running the ball, I’m going to try to force mismatches against Zaire Franklin in coverage. Franklin has been a great Colt despite his often annoying social media exploits, that said if I have to beat the Colts defense, I’m working to isolate him in coverage and I let my slot/TE/RB have a big day catching the ball.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Sunday?

Colts center Tanor Bortilini has been very, very good this season and if you like offensive line play, he and Quenton Nelson make for some fun tape. He got blown up last week by Will Anderson Jr. blitzing up the A-gap but outside of being on the wrong end of a couple of highlights, Bort has had a very good second year in the NFL, his first as a full-time starter.

Question 5: Do you expect the Colts to cover as 1.5-point favorites, and do you like any props bets for the game?

I do think the Colts are the better team. I don’t think the Jaguars are bad by any stretch, but I do feel that the Colts will cover in this one. I don’t know what Jonathan Taylor’s over/under is but I’d take the over and I’d take the over each week from now until the Colts are done playing football this season.

Thanks to Chris for taking the time to answer our questions!

Jaguars vs Colts key matchups: passing game to make another leap?

gettyimages-2249357573.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars welcome the Indianapolis Colts to Everbank Stadium on Sunday. With both teams looking to separate themselves at the top of the AFC South, here are three battles to keep an eye on:

Jourdan Lewis vs Tyler Warren

TYLER WARREN TUDDY

📺 CBS | #ProBowlVote pic.twitter.com/H3tFPDUP4r

— Indianapolis Colts (@Colts) November 30, 2025

After a blistering start to the season was cruelly interrupted by injury, Jourdan Lewis returned against the Tennessee Titans last weekend. Whilst he had a quiet afternoon versus an ineffective passing game, just making it through the contest was a boost for the Jaguars. With the secondary getting healthy, Lewis looks set to man the nickel spot against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday.

If the Titans game was ‘easing back in’ to action, then the matchup against Indy is much more of a live drill; Lewis will be expected to keep rookie sensation Tyler Warren in check. Tight end Warren has been everything promised and more coming out of Penn State, with 58 catches, 684 yards and four scores already in his NFL career. The Colts will look to him and Jonathan Taylor to move the chains, and use outside targets Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman for splash plays.

The Colts will be looking to bounce back after two straight losses. If Lewis can erase Warren from the equation the likelihood of making that three defeats on the bounce goes up considerably.

Jakobi Meyers vs Charvarius Ward

How about Jakobi Meyers?

– 85.7% Catch %
– 61.3 YPG for the #Jaguars
– Led team in yards 3 of 4 games
pic.twitter.com/4XBGWMNdRw

— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) December 1, 2025

With the loss of Travis Hunter to injury, the midseason trade for Jakobi Meyers appears to have paid dividends for the 8-4 Jaguars. Sunday was Meyers’ best performance for Jacksonville to date, leading the team with 90 yards and a touchdown from six receptions. With Brian Thomas enduring something of a sophomore slump, the introduction of Meyers has kept the passing attack alive – and he’ll be hoping to have a similar impact against the Colts this weekend.

Meyers may have been facing Sauce Gardner had injury not ruled out Indy’s star corner; Gardner suffered a calf strain that will sideline him at least for Week 13 and probably longer. Fears he could be done for the season were unfounded, but it does mean Charvarius Ward becomes the CB1 in the Colts’ secondary.

Ward has only played six games this year due to a concussion, a frustrating start to life in Indianapolis after signing in free agency. His 21 tackles on the season highlight this lack of action, but the cornerback is heating up and had a strong performance against the Houston Texans last weekend. The industrious Meyers will be keen to test Ward early and often – no easy task.

Trevor Lawrence vs Daniel Jones

According to TruMedia, Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is 6th in the NFL in EPA per passing attempts over the middle of the field, jumping all the way up from 30th in from weeks 1-9. Feels like the confidence in his receivers has grown, nice dig on dagger to move the chains pic.twitter.com/kuYgnDcgpq

— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) December 3, 2025

It’s not been the smoothest of seasons for Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars’ franchise quarterback has struggled throughout the campaign to be fully on the same page as Liam Coen, with moments of frustration from both QB and head coach well documented. But could Sunday have been a turning point? Lawrence seemed to have more time in the pocket, and despite still taking three sacks was surgical from within the pocket, throwing for 229 yards and two scores. Crucially there was an absence of turnovers too, whilst his scrambling ability was also on show – a much welcome performance for a slightly concerned fanbase.

Conversely, Daniel Jones has found some form in 2025 that the rest of his career has not suggested he possessed. The former New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings quarterback has come alive in Shane Steichen’s offense, helping the Colts to be one of the in-form teams through the first half of the year.

Unfortunately for Jones his last two weeks haven’t quite hit the same standard as he battles through injury; a fractured fibula impacting his ability to plant and deliver from the pocket. He’s also been less mobile and able to move the chains with his legs. Despite the ailment, Jones has still been able to play mistake-free football – and he certainly wasn’t the reason for the Colts dropping their last two games and falling behind the Jags in the AFC South.

It’s not a sentence I’d ever thought I’d write; before this year I would have just assumed it was a given. But if Lawrence can outshine Jones on Sunday, the Jags might just widen the gap at the top of the division.

Jaguars Injury Roundup: 4 Questionable; Wingard & Walker Little Ruled Out

gettyimages-2246646805.jpg

The Jaguars roster continues the push and pull of one step forward, two steps back, as they look to receive some additional help for the coming week 14 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, while also potentially missing some key contributors. On Friday the team officially declared starting left tackle Walker Little and Safety Andrew (Dewey) Wingard inactive for Sunday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Both players were ruled out after suffering concussions against the Tennessee Titans in week 13. With Walker Little leaving Sunday’s win over the Titans with concussion symptoms, it would seem that another week is on deck for Cole Van Lanen to slide in at left tackle.

#INDvsJAX Status Report pic.twitter.com/TvFaHjSnEM

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) December 5, 2025

In related news, offensive lineman Patrick Mekari has also cleared the concussion protocol after missing week 13, entering this matchup with no injury designation. In addition to Mekari, his backup at right guard, Chuma Edoga also returns to the playing field after missing week 13 due to a calf injury.

The following players are currently questionable for Sunday:

  • DE Travon Walker (knee)
  • WR Parker Washington (hip)
  • DT Arik Armstead (hand)
  • S Eric Murray (neck)

Arik Armstead and Travon Walker returning would be a boon to the Jacksonville defense preparing to face Jonathan Taylor. Armstead practiced all week while wearing a cast over his injured hand following his week 13 absence against the Titans.

DT Sack Leaders (QB Pressure Rank) before wk 14

1) Leonard Williams: 7.0 (2nd)-SEA
2) Byron Murphy II: 7.0 (5th)-SEA
3) Jeffery Simmons: 6.5 (9th)-TEN
4) Maliek Collins: 6.5 (20th)-CLE
5) Zach Allen: 6.0 (1st)-DEN
6) Brandon Dorlus: 6.0 (53rd)-ATL
7) Arik Armstead: 5.5 (3rd)-JAX pic.twitter.com/3ZkIXCWzVZ

— 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕧𝕚𝕤 🅓. ℍ𝕠𝕝𝕞𝕖𝕤 (@TravisDHolmes) December 4, 2025

Both Walker and Washington were limited participants on Thursday and Friday after sitting out Wednesday’s practice. The team has yet to officially decide on the playing status of safety Eric Murray. While Murray has been a full participant in practice all week, he is currently still listed as questionable, as fans await a return from the injured reserve list.

For Indianapolis, the Colts will be down multiple top talents on Sunday. The loss of defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who’s been on IR for a few weeks, will be huge for the Indianapolis defense. Additionally, cornerback Sauce Gardner, injured his calf on Sunday and has subsequently been ruled out by Indianapolis, resulting in a loss of two All Pro defenders this week.

Offensively, Quarterback Daniel Jones will continue to play through his fibula injury. While this may impact how often he runs the ball (he only had one rush last week against Houston), he looked pretty good versus the Texans, even rolling out on one of his touchdown passes Sunday. Saturday’s injury updates could have a significant impact on this one.

Jaguars vs Colts: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 14

gettyimages-2177132705.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 14’s matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Stadium.

Question 1: What should the Jaguars’ biggest focus be this week to beat the Colts and remain in first place in the division?

Dillon Appleman: The obvious answer here is to stop Jonathan Taylor, but I think a statistic that is more specific and ties into that emphasis is to win the time of possession battle. The Jaguars are 5-2 this season when they win T.O.P., and even the two losses (CIN and HOU) probably should have been wins if not for some self-sabotaging. Controlling the clock with the run game and converting on third down will go a long way in the outcome of this game.

Travis Holmes: Jacksonville’s biggest focus this week should probably be a continuation of their in-house, self-evaluation. The primary team to beat the Jaguars this season has been Jacksonville. If they can simply, for one Sunday, find a way to minimize the penalties in a game that’s expected to be raining, this would go a long way towards a Jacksonville victory.

Gus Logue: Win in the trenches. Offensive/defensive line play is paramount in any game, but especially in gritty divisional matchups — and especially those being played in rainy conditions. Pro Bowl DT DeForest Buckner is out for the season, but can the Jaguars’ IOL take care of run-stuffing DT Grover Stewart? On the other side of the ball: can Josh Hines-Allen continue his hot streak? (He leads the NFL in pressures since Week 9.) And how effective will Travon Walker and Arik Armstead be on Sunday, assuming they return from their respective injuries?

Henry Zimmer: Outside of getting healthy across the board, the Jags need to focus on continuing to do the little things correctly. Drops weren’t an issue over the weekend and the team had the right attitude. Playing at home will help the team get up for the game, but another 13-penalty day will definitely ruin that. Playing clean and playing smart are your keys to winning Sunday.

Question 2: What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon
: With Sauce Gardner out on Sunday, the matchup I’m looking forward to most is the Colts CB2 (Mekhi Blackmon or Jaylon Jones) against the Jags trio of wide receivers. CB1 Charvarius Ward is a good player, but with Gardner out, it allows Jacksonville to have a mismatch with one of Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr. or Parker Washington against depth pieces for Indy. I expect Liam Coen to attack that matchup early and often in the passing game.

Travis: The matchup between Colts’ TE Tyler Warren and Jacksonville safety Eric Murray (and the Jaguar LBs) is the one to watch for me. Warren averages about 5 catches a game and is third in the NFL for receiving yards from a TE (behind only Trey McBride and Travis Kelce). Meanwhile, Jacksonville has struggled heavily against the position in 2025. Top tight end talent against questionable tight end coverage normally means an explosive day for the offense. It will be curious to see how DC Anthony Campanile addresses Warren while looking to limit Jonathan Taylor simultaneously.

Gus: RG Patrick Mekari against DT Grover Stewart will be a battle between versatile veteran linemen. Stewart moves across the formation some — especially now that Buckner is on injured reserve — but he primarily aligns on the left side of the defense/right side of the offense. Mekari missed the past game and a half due to a concussion, and his play has dropped off since the first month of the season, but the Jaguars will need a strong outing out of their free agent pickup to neutralize Stewart in the run game.

Henry: If the Jags are still depleted along the defensive line, who will step up to stop Taylor? He’s been bottled up in the past two games for the Colts — both resulted in losses. If the Jags can keep Taylor out of the end zone, that’s a game-winning approach for Jacksonville.

Question 3: Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon
: Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars need to win the turnover battle and convert on 3rd down to win what is the most important game of the season for Jacksonville to this point. Lawrence did a good job last week of keeping the ball out of harm’s way, and he’ll need to continue that trend on Sunday if the team is going to take control of the division.

Travis: My X-factor for this one is, unfortunately, a familiar face in Duval: WR Alec Pierce. I know they have a horseshoe on their helmets, but this 2025 Colts team is built similarly to the old-school Titans. With Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor filling the Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry roles, respectively, this smashmouth run-the-ball, control-the-game offense can’t be allowed to have success opening up the vertical passing game on Sunday. Pierce, the Colts’ most explosive receiver, can’t be allowed to do what he did against this Jaguars secondary in their 2024 Week 5 matchup, when Joe Flacco connected with Pierce for 3 receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown at EverBank Stadium.

Gus: Considering the forecast, I’ll go with Bhayshul Tuten. The Jaguars will need both him and Travis Etienne to be effective on the ground so that Lawrence isn’t forced to drop back 35+ times in the rain. Tuten ranks 41st among 49 RBs with 3.6 yards per carry this season, largely because he has just 4 rushes of more than 10 yards and zero rushes of more than 15 yards. Sunday would be a great time for the fourth-round rookie to break a long one.

Henry: Taylor. He is just as liable to go for over 200 as he is to rush for only around 60 yards. Daniel Jones not being healthy could hurt Taylor’s chances of running wild if the whole stadium knows they will lean on the run game anyway.

Final score prediction?

Dillon
: Jaguars 20, Colts 17

Travis: Jaguars 29, Colts 27

Gus: Jaguars 27, Colts 24

Henry: Jaguars 27, Colts 17

Last week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans if they expect the team to remain at the top of the AFC South standings for the remainder of the season.

71% of respondents said yes.

Jacksonville_2_120325.png

That’s a lot!

Only 2% of fans expected Jacksonville to win the division after its Week 10 collapse in Houston. Shoutout to the ones who never stopped believing!

With three straight wins under their belt, the Jaguars (8-4) are in first place in the AFC South. They’ll have to win this weekend against the Colts to keep their lead.

“Where we’re at in our season, it’s a big game,” Trevor Lawrence said Wednesday. “They’re all important though. All of the games are important to get to this point to put ourselves in position, but yeah, definitely big game.”

As for the confidence survey, 91% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — up from 79% last week.

We have a much easier road than Colts or Texans. If we hold serve against Indy at home and Jets at home, we go into week 18 at worst 10-6.

I think it’s still entirely possible the Colts don’t win another game. Not likely, but possible. If they lose the next 3, which is probably more likely than not, than they are 8-7 and all-but eliminated at that point. If they beat us, they are at 9-7.

Texans can likely split their next 4 at 2-2, going into week 18 at 9-7.

So, big game this weekend, and as much as it pains us, cheer hard for Chiefs/Chargers and 49ers/Seahawks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts are set to square off in Week 14 of the 2025 season.

According to Jaguars PR, it’s just the third time ever that a regular season game is being played in Jacksonville in December or January between two teams with a 0.666 record or better.

“I fully expected our team to, hey, let’s go take care of business as we needed to this past week,” Liam Coen said Friday. “Then approach this one, hey, what it is, it’s potential playoff opportunity. So, nobody’s had to say anything, but the way that the guys have prepared throughout the week… Look, win, lose or draw, I think our guys are ready to go play this game.”

Streak Lives On: Jags Extend Home Dominance Over Colts to 11 Straight

The Jacksonville Jaguars extended their decade-long streak of home victories over the Indianapolis Colts to 11 consecutive games with a 36-19 home victory on Sunday. The weather was rainy, the stadium was packed, and the team came ready to take control of the AFC South.

The team welcomed back many familiar faces for Legends Weekend, as former Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson completed the first “Duuuval” for the home team.

Pregame Notes:

On Friday, Jacksonville officially declared both starting left tackle Walker Little and safety Andrew (Dewey) Wingard inactive for Sunday’s matchup due to concussions. Additionally, WR Parker Washington was later ruled out after suffering a hip injury in week 13. Multiple Jaguars returned from injury for Jacksonville, as Eric Murray was activated from IR after a five-game absence due to a neck injury. OL Patrick Mekari (concussion), Chuma Edoga (calf), and DE Travon Walker (knee) all returned to the playing field after missing Week 13 due to injury. DT Arik Armstead (hand) was also active, wearing a cast over his injured hand.

  • RB Bhayshul Tuten (concussion) – returned to the game in the second quarter

Game Recap

Following an opening drive punt by the Jaguars offense, linebacker Devin Lloyd opened the action with his fifth interception of the year, an aerobic behind-the-back catch, to give the ball back to the offense at the Jacksonville 21. Travis Etienne, smelling blood in the water, kicked off the scoring with a three-yard rush, breaking a tackle at the line to gain. (Jaguars 7, Colts 0)

The Colts immediately answered with an 11-play, 78-yard, 6:07 drive with much of the damage surprisingly done via the air. Daniel Jones wrapped up the drive with completions of 16, 17, 13, and 9, as Jonathan Taylor tied the game up with a one-yard rush. (Jaguars 7, Colts 7)

The Jacksonville offense immediately regained the lead on a 5-play, 74-yard, 2:05 drive featuring a highlight one-handed 39-yard catch by Brian Thomas Jr.

Lawrence followed the highlight grab with a perfect touchdown pass to Jakobi Meyers over the underneath coverage, with Meyers running s stutter-and-go. (Jaguars 14, Colts 7)

Colts QB Daniel Jones, who entered the matchup playing on a reported fractured fibula, left the game on the following drive after grabbing his Achilles on a non-contact play, slamming his helmet into the ground before heading to the locker room late in the first quarter. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game with an Achilles injury, which could massively impact both teams’ playoff chances.

Tim Patrick started the coming drive off rocky, with a second down false start. However, he ended strong, moving the offense into scoring territory with a 37-yard sideline catch, while wearing no gloves in the downpour. He later caught the eight-yard touchdown to extend the halftime lead to 18. (Jaguars 28, Colts 10)

Post-game notables:

1. Bye Week Wakeup

The Jaguars move to 9-4, in the sole possession of the AFC South lead, as the team now moves to 5-1 since the bye week. The one loss came at the hands of the Houston Texans, where Jacksonville was ahead by 19 points at the start of the fourth quarter. The team has scored 25-plus in each of the matchups, as both sides of the ball seem to be finding their groove.

2. Run Game Discipline

While a stat-line of 20 carries for 74 yards (3.7 YPC) may not scream “dominance on the ground” by Travis Etienne, it’s a winning performance by the veteran back on a wet EverBank day. No turnovers surrendered and two rushing touchdowns (both off turnovers by the opposing team) allowed Jacksonville to play from a position of strength.

3. Turnover Party Continues

Anthony Campanile’s unit continues to prove their early season success at getting their hands on the ball was not a fluke, exiting Sunday with three turnovers. While facing a backup quarterback for much of the final three quarters of play, Jacksonville, the NFL’s leading run defense, was dominant, limiting Jonathan Taylor to 74 rushing yards on 21 carries (3.5 YPC), 1 TD, and a fumble lost. When your defense spots the offense three turnovers, scores a safety, and the offense scores 14 points off turnovers, that’s peak complementary football.

Jaguars playoff picture: What does Week 14 vs. Colts mean for AFC standings

gettyimages-2177118744.jpg

Game result: The Jaguars handled their business at home in Week 14, beating the Colts 36-19. Jacksonville will head into Week 15 sitting in first place with a one-game lead on Indianapolis, and holding the head-to-head tiebreaker. They remain in third place overall in the conference standings. The Jaguars entered the game with an 83% chance of making the playoffs, according to The Athletic’s playoff simulator. The win improves their chances to 96%.

The Jaguars and Colts face off again in Week 17, and Sunday’s game brought a huge development for that game. Colts QB Daniel Jones was playing with a fractured fibula and he injured his Achilles in the game. He seems a decent bet not to be available for Week 17, but we’ll find out more in the next 24 hours about Jones’s status moving forward.

The Jaguars host the Jets next week, while the Colts travel to face the Seahawks. Jacksonville will be favored while Indy will be an underdog.

The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Indianapolis Colts in a huge Week 14 matchup for AFC South supremacy. The game won’t decide the division title, but it will give one of the two teams an important leg up heading into the final four weeks of the regular season.

The Colts enter the game as a 1.5-point favorite. Jacksonville has won three straight and four of their last five, while Indy have lost two straight and three of their past four.

AFC South playoff picture

Both teams are 8-4 and tied for first place heading into the first of their two regular season matchups. They are both 2-1 in the division and since they haven’t played each other yet, the tiebreaker is currently record in common games. Their common opponents include the Titans, Texans, Rams, Raiders, Cardinals, Chargers, and Chiefs. The Jaguars are 6-2 against those teams while the Colts are 5-3.

The winner of Sunday’s game will take a one-game lead in the division and also have the leg up in the head-to-head tiebreaker. The two squads face off again in Week 17. Before then, the Jaguars face the Jets at home and the Broncos on the road. In that same stretch, the Colts travel to face the Seahawks and then host the 49ers.

All that is to say, this game is important but a whole lot can happen over the next two weeks before these two teams meet again.

AFC South standings

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: 8-4
  2. Indianapolis Colts: 8-4
  3. Houston Texans: 7-5
  4. Tennessee Titans: 1-11

Overall AFC playoff picture

The Jaguars are currently the No. 3 seed in the AFC. If they win they’ll remain the three seed because they are currently two games back of the Broncos and 2.5 games back of the Patriots for the top two seeds. If they lose they could drop to anywhere from fifth through eight place. The Texans split with the Jaguars and hold the division record tiebreaker for the time-being with a 4-1 record (the Jaguars are 2-1 and would be 2-2 if they lose to the Colts). If the Jaguars lose and end up tied with the Texans and at least one other team, losing the tiebreaker to the Texans would drop them down to the back of the tiebreaker group.

AFC standings

  1. New England Patriots: 11-2
  2. Denver Broncos: 10-2
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars: 8-4
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers: 6-6
  5. Indianapolis Colts: 8-4
  6. Los Angeles Chargers: 8-4
  7. Buffalo Bills: 8-4
  8. Houston Texans: 7-5
  9. Kansas City Chiefs: 6-6
  10. Baltimore Ravens: 6-6

Winners & Losers from Week 14: Jaguars Shine in the Rain Over the Colts

imagn-27766409.jpg

I think I speak for the entire city of Jacksonville when I say each and every one of us would watch 1,000 more games in the rain if what we saw Sunday would be the result.

Looking to take sole control of the AFC South and the team’s playoff destiny, the Jacksonville Jaguars decimated the visiting Colts 36-19. The score is not indicative of how lopsided the game was, but regardless, the win moved the Jags to 9-4 on the year and to 11-0 in their past meetings at home with the division rival Colts. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams was the #1 song the last time the Colts won in Duval County.

Since the bye week, the Jags have gone 5-1 with their lone loss inexplicably coming against the surging Texans. With at least three winnable games left on the schedule, the Jags have done a tremendous job since the bye – and since the two lifeless losses to Seattle and L.A. – to right the ship and set themselves up for future playoff success.

Over the weekend, we saw that process take full effect on the first play on defense.

WINNERS
Devin Lloyd

Two players raised their future contract price based on their play on Sunday. The first of those was Devin Lloyd.

On Indy’s first offensive possession, Lloyd snagged a pick off of Daniel Jones, which set up a four-play, 21-yard scoring drive for Jacksonville to go up 7-0. It was a classic Lloyd interception, one Jags fans have seen plenty of times this year. In fact, Lloyd’s five picks this season are tied for second overall across the entire NFL.

What once was a sort of hapless player, seemingly lost across the defensive space, has turned into a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Lloyd tied the team lead in tackles with eight and was the fifth-highest rated player on the Jags, according to PFF, with a 77.1 grade.

Suffice to say, Lloyd should be in the Pro Bowl. Vote for him.

Jakobi Meyers

The second player the Jags are going to have to grapple with paying this offseason is Jakobi Meyers, who also raised his stock after yet another solid showing.

Since joining the Jags, Meyers has completely changed the look of the Jaguar offense for the better. By the recent standard set by Meyers’ production, he had a bit of a “slow” day, hauling in just four passes for 39 yards and a score. He did have 10 targets and one rain-impacted drop, but it was still a solid game nonetheless. He was also key on a couple of wide receiver handoffs that the Jags love calling to pick up short yardage downs.

Since joining the Jags, Meyers has 2 catches, over 260 yards, and three scores. His connection with Trevor Lawrence is undeniable and he has given the offense a boost that is almost hard to describe. His simple presence has elevated this team and has surely been a catalyst for setting up the playoff run.

He will be an unrestricted free agent after this year. It would be hard to imagine this front office allows him to not wear a Jags jersey for years to come after this.

Tim Patrick

Have a day, Tim Patrick.

While certainly not high up the pecking order of WRs in Jacksonville, Patrick found his connection with Lawrence on Sunday. He was second on the team in receiving with 78 yards on five catches. He was also the recipient of maybe Lawrence’s best throw as a Jaguar. Patrick even caught a touchdown right before halftime, much to his sister’s delight, I’m sure.

Patrick was solid against the Colts and yet another piece that worked on offense to just crush the Indy defense. Is he in the future plans for Jacksonville’s offense? Maybe not. But he clearly has the trust of the coaches and Lawrence.

Trevor to Tim Patrick! Jags up 28-10.

Travis Etienne

Courtesy of a strong day by the offensive line, running back Travis Etienne stacked another good performance. Etienne scored twice and finished with 74 yards on 20 carries.

Etienne, much like Lloyd, has had quite the career resurgence since this new staff took over. He is well over 1,000 all-purpose yards this season and less than 100 yards from 1,000 yards rushing. He also has nine total touchdowns.

I suppose with the above guys set up to get paid big bucks, maybe someone like Etienne is the odd man out. I hope that will not be the case. Etienne has been a large part of this offense this year and the Jags are certainly not worse when he is out there.

Brian Thomas Jr.

The official “BTJ is back” party is here. Let us rejoice.

Thomas led the Jags in receiving with 87 yards on three catches. His one-handed catch was a thing of beauty.

Anything bad that has ever been said about Thomas has officially been wiped clean with that performance. And he was doing it all in the rain, no less! Whatever voodoo magic happened over that bye week will go down in Jaguar lore for decades to come. It did a lot of things, one of which seems to be fixing up Thomas for the better.

BTJ ONE-HANDER WOW.

Josh Hines-Allen

Speaking of wiping clean any ill comments towards players, it’s now time to talk about Josh Hines-Allen. This guy is on a heater.

Hines-Allen had yet another sack on Sunday, resulting in a safety. He now has seven total sacks and at least one sack in all five wins over the past six games.

I was critical of Hines-Allen before this streak, saying his production, or lack thereof, directly correlated to the Jags winning. The team needs him to be great. With Travon Walker back, along with Arik Armstead, Hines-Allen is free to wreak havoc again like the good ol’ days. Again, that bye week voodoo magic worked. I, for one, am far happier talking about JHA in a positive light than a negative one. He certainly is talking positively nowadays.

The Offensive Line

Hats off to the offensive line for the Jags yet again! Who would’ve thought we’d be saying that multiple times this year?

Sunday was the second straight week with zero sacks allowed and I don’t really recall a time where Lawrence was ever in too much danger at all of being sacked, or even hit.

With Cole Van Lanen stepping up to start at left tackle in the place of Walker Little, the line didn’t miss a beat. Remember those PFF grades mentioned earlier? Van Lanen was the third-highest-ranked player on the team with a 79.5 PFF grade.

The line allowed Etienne to get a decent run game going and kept Lawrence upright. Not much more you can ask, especially with the injuries and the guys coming back. At best, you could have hoped for an average offensive line before the year started. I think this unit is hitting that benchmark consistently in recent weeks.

I’ll post the pressures when they are released but kudos to the #Jaguars OL vs #Colts.

Without their starting Left Tackle, the #Jaguars allowed ZERO QB hits and ZERO sacks. pic.twitter.com/S6EAV95quc

— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) December 8, 2025

The Coaching Staff

Head coach Liam Coen and staff deserve a lot of credit.

Postgame, Coen talked about the chip this team has on its shoulders due to a perceived (correctly) lack of national respect. Coen has been able to use that chip and propel this team to heights that, frankly, they maybe shouldn’t be reaching– see the offensive line.

Etienne said postgame that Coen embraces the challenge and it trickles down to the entire team. I’ve been critical of Coen for a perceived lack of preparedness on the field, but at least emotionally, this team is ready to fight anyone (looking at you, Logan Cooke).

There is a bit of a trap game coming up against the Jets, which the Jags should dominate, before a huge test at Denver. All signs are pointing to Coen and the boys having the team ready.

Trevor Lawrence

Was that Lawrence’s most complete game we witnessed?

What a hell of a showing for Lawrence against a pretty solid defense, albeit missing two key starters in Sauce Gardner and DeForrest Buckner. Players missing or not, Lawrence was dealing against the Colts. He would’ve had an even better stat line if it were sunny outside.

His box score of 17-30 for 244 yards passing, two scores, and no sacks is an efficient and effective day in the office. He added 16 yards on the ground as well, zipping around for a few big pickups.

I will say it again: that pass to Patrick might be his best throw as a Jag.

Lawrence has benefited HUGELY from the Meyers trade and is now second in the NFL in success percentage since Week 10.

Keep that damn play sheet on Lawrence’s arm and we are set. He trusts his receivers despite the drop problems early in the season. You can see that pay off with games like Sunday’s.

Who knows what type of Lawrence we may see in the future? That’s always the question. But this streak he has been on the past four weeks has been one hell of a ride.

Jaguars vs Jets: Week 15 opening odds

The Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4) will host the New York Jets (3-10) at 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 14, at EverBank Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 11.5-point favorites and the total is set at 41.5 points.

Let me say that again.

The Jaguars are 11.5-point favorites.

As bad as the Jets might be, that’s a rare thing for the Jags. According to Covers.com, the last time Jacksonville was favored by 11.5+ points was Week 16 of the 2007 season. Two thousand and seven!

Liam Coen’s Jaguars are on an absolute roll right now, having won four straight games to take sole possession of first place in the AFC South.

“I think our guys took control of the moment,” he said after the Week 14 dub. “Our guys have responded in so many ways in these big games, right? You look at Kansas City, San Francisco, some of those moments where I think they ultimately always kind of feel disrespected, and that’s something that continues to feed our team.”

The betting markets are certainly giving Coen’s team their respect this week, but don’t tell them that.

NFL playoff picture: Jacksonville Jaguars take control of AFC South lead

gettyimages-2250602573.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars handled critical business in Week 14, beating the Indianapolis Colts 36-19 on Sunday to take control of the AFC South. The Jaguars improved to 9-4 with the win while the Colts dropped to 8-5. Trevor Lawrence threw for two touchdowns while Travis Etienne added two rushing touchdowns in the victory.

The most significant piece of news to come out of this game was the Daniel Jones injury. The Colts QB tore his Achilles and is done for the year. Riley Leonard replaced him and will get a shot at finishing the season as the Colts starting quarterback.

Indy is still in the playoff picture, and only sits a game back of the Jaguars, but Jonathan Taylor might not be enough to overcome the loss of the previously surging Jones. Even with some of his recent struggles, it was injuries that really slowed down Jones. And now, with him out, the Jaguars are in the driver’s seat in the AFC South.

All of the Week 15 results have boosted the Jaguars playoff chances to 97%, per The Athletic’s playoff simulator. If they beat the Jets next week, for which they enter the week an 11.5-point favorite at FanDuel, their chances will improve to 99%.

AFC South standings

The Jaguars hold a one-game lead over the Texans and Colts. They split the season series with the Texans and won the first game against the Colts. Jacksonville travels to face Indianapolis in Week 17, but with Daniel Jones done for the year, expectations are high for the Jaguars in that game. They are tied with the Texans in divisional record, so if they end up tied and it doesn’t involve another divisional loss, it would move to the common games tiebreaker.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: 9-4
  2. Houston Texans: 8-5
  3. Indianapolis Colts: 8-5
  4. Tennessee Titans: 2-11

AFC playoff standings

The Jaguars remain in third place in the overall AFC standings. They are two games back of the Broncos and Patriots, and two games up on the Steelers. The Jaguars travel to face the Broncos in Week 16, which opens up a huge opportunity. Jacksonville would still need another Denver loss in Week 15, 17, or 18, but it’s not out of the realm of the possible. The Jaguars and Patriots did not face off this season, so it would come down to one of the various tiebreakers. They have the same conference record, and if the Patriots were to lose two of their remaining games to create a tie with the Jaguars, Jacksonville would likely finish with a better conference record.

  1. Denver Broncos: 11-2
  2. New England Patriots: 11-2
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars: 9-4
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers: 7-6
  5. Buffalo Bills: 9-4
  6. Los Angeles Chargers: 8-4
  7. Houston Texans: 8-5
  8. Indianapolis Colts: 8-5

First quarter

Indianapolis won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Jacksonville began the game on the right foot, as Trevor Lawrence connected with Jakobi Meyers for an 11-yard gain over the middle, but a stuffed run followed by an incomplete pass led to a quick punt.

The Colts’ offense also began its day with a pass attempt, and it was picked off by Devin Lloyd to give the Jaguars the ball back!

Lawrence connected with Brian Thomas Jr. down the seam for an 18-yard pickup before Travis Etienne finished the drive with a 3-yard touchdown plunge. The good guys have the lead!

Indianapolis responded with an efficient 11-play drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run from Jonathan Taylor. The only third down they faced was a 3rd-and-1 that Tyler Warren picked up with his legs.

Jaguars 7, Colts 7

Talk about a response to the response! Lawrence marched Jacksonville right back down the field by throwing this gorgeous dot on 3rd-and-5 to Thomas, who hauled it in with one glove…

…Then Lawrence found Meyers in the endzone on a pretty touch pass. T-Law has completed 7 of 9 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown through the first quarter.

On the second-to-last play of the quarter, Daniel Jones sustained a non-contact injury. It was tough to watch him try to walk off the field, then sit down and bang his helmet on the ground in frustration. You never want to assume anything when it comes to injuries, but it feels safe to say that Jones is done for the day.

Second quarter

Both offenses exchanged punts, so the Colts have the ball again. Riley Leonard is in at quarterback.

Taylor was stripped on a 2nd-and-4 run by Eric Murray (who just returned from injured reserve) and the ball was scooped up by Jarrian Jones!

Leonard put together a 16-play, 64-yard drive with a couple of 3rd down conversions to set up a 28-yard chip shot field goal for Indy.

Etienne had rushes of 11 and 9 yards to start Jacksonville’s next drive, then Bhayshul Tuten was subbed in and picked up 6 yards himself, but he fumbled on the next play thanks to a run stuff by Grover Stewart. The Jaguars’ defense punched back by stopping Taylor on 4th-and-1 for its third forced turnover of the day!

Third quarter

The Colts got in position for a 36-yard field goal on the first drive of the second half thanks to a 24-yard catch by Michael Pittman Jr. and an iffy 16-yard pass interference penalty on Montaric Brown.

Jaguars 28, Colts 13

After the teams exchanged three-and-outs, Jacksonville’s offense was able to milk the last seven minutes of the quarter off the clock. Lawrence converted a 4th-and-1 near midfield with a QB sneak and connected with Thomas for 30 yards on another beautiful pitch and catch down the sideline.

Fourth quarter

Jacksonville’s drive ended with a 4th-and-4 at the 17-yard line, and Liam Coen opted to send out Cam Little for the 35-yard field goal attempt. He nailed it — making him 10/10 on FG attempts since the Week 8 bye!

On the very next play, Josh Hines-Allen wrapped up Leonard in the endzone to score a safety! The Jaguars are scoring every which way today!

Jaguars 33, Colts 13

Little banged a 48-yard field goal through the uprights to give the Jags a 23-point lead with under 5 minutes to go.

Jaguars 36, Colts 13

Leonard led the Colts on a 12-play touchdown drive, but it’s too little too late. The Jaguars will kneel it out and move to 9-4 on the season with sole possession of first place in the AFC South!

Has Cole Van Lanen Earned the Left Tackle Role in Duval?

imagn-27694049.jpg

For the past few weeks, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line has been playing at a near-dominant level, culminating on Sunday with zero sacks or quarterback hits surrendered to the Indianapolis Colts.

Many within both the fanbase and local media have been clamoring for a new starting left tackle based on recent play by swing tackle Cole Van Lanen. He finally stepped in for starting left tackle Walker Little during the team’s week 13 matchup against the Tennessee Titans after Little exited the game in the second quarter with concussion symptoms that would also keep him out of the team’s week 14 victory.

Van Lanen played well in Little’s absence. He played so well that head coach Liam Coen, when asked if he had done enough to earn a starting role, stated:

“I think so. I think there’s definitely—he’s played enough really good football for us. We’ve got a great situation right now where you’ve got depth at multiple positions of people that have had to play for us a lot. This shows up in multiple positions all throughout the team. You can point to the defensive side of that for things, receiver position, a lot of different positions that guys have been fortunate enough to step up, play well, help lead us to get to where we are right now. And the message in the locker room is, ‘Hey guys, there’s a lot of guys that are coming back right now, and for us to continue to go where we want to go, we’ve got to use that as an edge,’ and that depth and experience that we’ve gotten has to be collective and having a team first mindset about everything we do.”

While Coen stopped short of declaring any depth chart changes in his praise for CVL and others, the inquiry remains: has Cole Van Lanen done enough to hold off Walker Little at left tackle in his limited stint there?

Little has struggled in pass protection in multiple high-leverage junctures against some of the top competition the Jaguars have faced this season. However, every time a depth player has performed well, the fanbase has been vocal that the incumbent should be benched. This has happened on numerous occasions in 2025 with even smaller sample sizes than Van Lanen’s one-and-a-half-game audition (for example: Patrick Mekari and Cole Van Lanen/Wyatt Milum, Andrew Wingard and Antonio Johnson, Matt Dickerson and Maason Smith, and even earlier in the year with Brian Thomas Jr and Parker Washington).

Fanbases and media can be fickle; I mean, you can’t be a fan without being fanatic, right?

Recency bias can often result in incomplete or flawed evaluations. Little has arguably played pretty comparably to Van Lanen, considering the opposition faced, since the Jaguars’ bye week.

Week 11 (LAC)29th

Van Lanen, however, graded out as Pro Football Focus’ fourth-highest rated player on the Jaguars’ offense on Sunday (77.5) and the second-best offensive lineman behind only Ezra Cleveland (78.6). This followed his week 13 performance, where he was PFF’s third-highest rated offensive player against the Tennessee Titans while playing both right guard and left tackle.

Notably, since the bye week, Little has consistently been rated as the offense’s sixth to ninth best player for weeks 9, 11, 12, and 13 before exiting with concussion symptoms. Week 10 was the Houston Texans matchup where both Van Lanen and Little struggled heavily at right guard and left tackle, respectively, landing each at the 14th and 18th ratings for the Jacksonville offense for that week. Little has consistently been regarded as a dominant run blocker, while struggling in the pass protection arena against top competition.

— J-Villains Podcast (@JVillainsPod) November 7, 2025

It would seem that Little’s early pass protection issues have so damaged fan and media confidence in him to a point where they’re willing to, understandably, attempt a switch due to the potential promise of upside. It’s a difficult decision, with not a lot to go on. Desperation can breed innovation, but it can also breed gullibility, and locating the truth can be tough.

From my conversations with many in the fanbase, two camps of opinions exist:

Group one includes those who believe that Walker Little isn’t elite, but he’s objectively the best option the Jaguars have in 2025.

Group two is made up of those with the thought process, “Why not give Cole Van Lanen a shot to see if he’s a better long-term option than Walker Little?” Many players on this roster, in 2025, with new coaching and a new scheme, have shown new sides of themselves that fans hadn’t previously seen (Devin Lloyd, Antonio Johnson, Montaric Brown, Dennis Gardeck, etc). Van Lanen could be another in that growing list of developing players.

I don’t really have a strong personal opinion to date with such a small sample size, as this one feels impossible to grade when you also consider that Van Lanen was injured throughout most of training camp, when any real competition for the role would have taken place.

Which camp do you fall into, Big Cat Country? Should the team stick with the known product that has been playing better since the bye week, or stay with the lesser-known product that could possess a potentially high ceiling? Van Lanen has performed well, albeit against lesser competition than what Walker faced at left tackle. Tough choices, Duval…

Jaguars Rookie Report: Jags dominant despite quiet Week 14 for rookies

imagn-27767744.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated their division rival Indianapolis Colts 36-19 on Sunday to take full game lead on the AFC South. It was a complete team effort as all three phases had big moments in the victory. The stars were the focal point of the win as the rookies took a back seat a bit this week, but there were certainly some flashes from several young players. Let’s break down each of their performances in the huge Week 14 win.

Bhayshul Tuten

Bhayshul Tuten has had an impactful rookie year for the Jaguars as he has amassed 340 yards from scrimmage with four touchdowns on the ground while also being Jacksonville’s best return man on kickoffs as well (27.9 return average).

Unfortunately, Sunday was a tough day for the speedster as he was injured on his first touch of the game during a kickoff in the first quarter (evaluated for a concussion). He wouldn’t return until late in the second and not long after that he fumbled a carry which led to him being solely used on a kick returns the rest of the game. He finished with two carries for five yards and a lost fumble on the day.

The Tuten fumble was such a nice play by Grover Stewart. Some nice quickness and agility for a 300+ pound man pic.twitter.com/S9BSmuRo7N

Lequint Allen Jr.

It feels like Lequint Allen Jr. has the same game every single week and I mean that as a compliment because it’s a blast watching him. His offensive stat line is never going to impress — he finished with two receptions for eight yards on the day — but his eagerness for physicality in pass protection and his total disregard of his own body on special teams is always a treat.

Allen is the type of player that turns into that classic glue guy for a team that won’t ever be a feature piece but his impact is invaluable due to the little things he does week in and week out. There may not be a player on the team more Duval than Lequint Allen Jr.

Travis Etienne said LeQuint Allen has "a little more crazy than everybody else." (In a good way) pic.twitter.com/FfW5FyYy7t

— Jamal St. Cyr (@JStCyrTV) December 4, 2025

Danny Striggow /BJ Green II

A couple of new additions to this weekly series are undrafted rookies Danny Striggow and BJ Green II.

These two have gotten more and more opportunities to make an impact the last few weeks and have each flashed when on the field. They play with non-stop motors and a brand of physicality that had been missing amongst other depth edge pieces this season.

-Gonna have to go watch some Elijah Ponder because wow

-Danny Striggow and BJ Green👀👀 pic.twitter.com/F626bRQyuZ

— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) December 9, 2025

On Sunday, Green had himself two pressures and finished with two tackles while Striggow finished the game with four tackles and had a really nice sack taken away due to a penalty. Striggow also logged a 49% snap share amongst Jags defensive linemen, which was fourth on the team. That is a pretty strong sign that this defensive staff trusts the rookie out of Minnesota as his involvement has been a welcomed surprise for a Jacksonville front that seems to be just hitting their stride at the perfect time.

Every time I watch the Jags on tape I come away impressed with UDFA rookie EDGE Danny Striggow (#92). Rugged and mean as hell in the run game, provides some pop as a looper on pass rush games, had a sack wiped off in this game due to penalty. Great find by the Jags scouting dept. pic.twitter.com/fL45FdmaVI

— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) December 9, 2025

Jack Kiser/Rayuan Lane/Wyatt Milum /Jonah Monheim

This group had similar days at the office on Sunday as they started off playing their typical special teams roles but were able to get some play on their respective positional units as the Jaguars continued to build a lead late in the fourth quarter.

Kiser and Lane both finished with a couple of tackles on the day with Kiser finishing with a season-high 13 snaps. The offensive line duo of Milum and Monheim also got some play during clean up duty as they came in for Nick Mullens’ six offensive snaps – three being victory formation kneel downs.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets Week 15 stats, matchup preview

gettyimages-2239087633.jpg

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to face the New York Jets in Week 15, we sat down with MacGregor Wells of Gang Green Nation to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: Brady Cook was thrown into action last week due to injuries to Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields. Who do you expect to be the starter at QB this week — and is it safe to assume the Jets’ 2026 starter is not on the current roster?

It’s not clear who will start for the Jets on Sunday. The Jets just added Asrian Gonzalez to the practice squad this week, which may indicate Taylor and Fields won’t be available. My guess is Cook will start with Gonzalez as the backup, but I don’t have a high level of confidence in that.

As for who will be the starter at quarterback for the Jets in 2026, I would be shocked if he is on the current Jets roster. Fields will almost certainly be cut, or, in the unlikely event the Jets can find a taker, traded. Taylor will be a free agent. I doubt the Jets will bring him back, but if they do, it is highly unlikely he will be the starter. Cook is an undrafted rookie who looks nothing like an NFL starting quarterback at the moment. He can’t be the plan for 2026. The Jets starter at quarterback in 2026 will likely be somebody they sign as a free agent, somebody they trade for, or somebody they draft.

Question 2: Are Jets fans content with the start of Aaron Glenn’s tenure? Where could he improve?

Some Jets fans like what they see in Aaron Glenn, some don’t. I think it’s too early to pass judgment. The Jets roster is a joke, particularly after they traded Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, their two best players, at the trade deadline. The Jets have no credible quarterbacks on the roster. They have no credible receivers other than Garret Wilson, who has been injured much of the season. The Jets have no credible tight ends beyond rookie Mason Taylor. They have no credible safeties besides rookie Malachi Moore. They have one of the worst groups of pass rushers in the NFL. They have a bunch of middling cornerbacks. The only real area of strength for the Jets is the offensive line. Nobody could be expected to make this work as a head coach.

However, there are areas of concern for Glenn. He has yet to unlock Breece Hall’s pass-catching prowess. With Wilson out, one would assume getting Hall the ball in space would be a priority, but that hasn’t been the case. In addition, the way they handled Fields was puzzling. If you want him to run your offense, you need a ton of RPOs and designed runs to exploit Fields’ best weapon, his running prowess. Instead, the Jets tried to make him a traditional dropback passer, with predictably miserable results. There is also the matter of tackling. Glenn emphasized tackling throughout training camp, but the Jets are still terrible at tackling.

So yes, there are areas where Glenn has fallen short. But it is still very early in the game. For me, I need to see how he does with a legitimate NFL roster rather than the practice squad level team he is currently fielding. We should know a lot more about Glenn’s coaching abilities by the end of 2026.

Question 3: If you were gameplanning against the Jets, which areas would you look to exploit on each side of the ball?

Heh. That shouldn’t be too challenging. On defense, shut down the run and the Jets will be rendered helpless on offense. Without a credible quarterback or credible receivers, just stopping Breece Hall should do the trick. On offense, target the safeties. The Jets’ safeties can’t cover anybody. The linebackers aren’t much better. A steady diet of passes to slot receivers, tight ends and running backs should be very successful.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Sunday?

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell might present some problems if he can hold onto the ball. He gets open, but his hands are less than optimal. On defense, rookie cornerback Azareye’h Thomas has been coming on of late, though he is nursing a shoulder injury and may not suit up. On special teams, returners Kene Nwangwu and Isaiah Williams are dangerous. They have combined for three return touchdowns this season. Rookie punter Austin McNamara has put together a quietly excellent season.

Question 5: Do you expect the Jets to cover as 13.5-point underdogs, and do you like any props bets for the game?

I’m not sure about the spread. Very large spreads like this are difficult to figure out. I am confident the Jaguars will win. I am confident the Jets won’t be particularly effective. But oftentimes you see a favorite get up big, then let up and let the opponent make the score respectable with meaningless garbage time scores. If I had to bet, I’d bet the Jaguars cover. The Jets are a very bad team.

As for prop bets, I’m not a betting man. If there’s a prop bet for Jets defensive turnovers, bet the under. The Jets have zero interceptions this year, and they have generated just two turnovers all season.

Thanks to MacGregor for taking the time to answer our questions!

Jaguars vs Jets: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 15

gettyimages-2190624905.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 15’s matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets at EverBank Stadium.

Question 1: Vibes are through the roof in Duval County right now. What has you most excited about the 9-4 Jaguars?

Dillon Appleman: I’m most excited about the idea that this is just the start of the offense clicking as we near a potential playoff run. It has been a work in progress to find consistency on offense all season, but over the last two weeks, it has been terrific. That things have finally started to slow down for Trevor Lawrence in Liam Coen’s detailed offense should be exciting for fans and a little scary for potential playoff opponents.

Travis Holmes: The constant player development that can easily be seen across the roster. The team record is obviously a positive; however, I never envisioned this roster as one that was truly ready for a deep playoff run in Year 1 of a new regime. Seeing them face both the toughest and easiest parts of their schedule, while still winning 70 percent of their games, confirms to me that Liam Coen was, without question, the right hire. Downstream development can be seen in nearly every position group through Coen and Anthony Campanile’s influence – RB Travis Etienne, LB Devin Lloyd, DT Arik Armstead, and QB Trevor Lawrence. This becomes even more pronounced for depth players such as S Antonio Johnson, CB Jarrian Jones, LB Dennis Gardeck, WR Parker Washington, UDFA DL Danny Striggow, and the list goes on. Player development has rarely been in the past few decades of Jaguar football. It’s a refreshing change-up.

Gus Logue: Dillon mentioned that the offense is starting to click, and I think you could say the same about the entire team. Since Jacksonville’s Week 8 bye, Trevor Lawrence leads the NFL in passing success rate, Josh Hines-Allen leads all defenders in pressures, the defense has allowed the league’s fewest rushing yards per game (73.3) and rushing touchdowns (11), and Cam Little has made all 10 of his field goal attempts. The Jaguars have scored an AFC-high 182 points in that span with 25+ points in each game. And they’re now as healthy as they’ve been since the first month of the season. This entire team is rounding into form at the perfect time in the NFL season.

Henry Zimmer: The part of this Jags team that has me most excited is that the team has direction. There is a clear plan in place by the front office, coaching staff, and players that is visible on the field. There is connectivity between what the coaches want from their players and what the players do on the field, and the front office is noticeably working to make the team better. Been a long time since that could be said.

Question 2: What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon
: The Jets don’t have much star power on their roster after some huge trades they made this season but they quietly have one of the best young tackle duos in the league in Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou. They’ll face off against Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, which should be a fun matchup between proven vets vs. a couple of young and ascending players for New York.

Travis: On a normal, week-by-week basis, I don’t believe that this Jets offense can consistently keep up with the Jaguars’ offense. However, the NFL is nothing but inconsistent, often featuring big week-by-week swings based on matchups. My biggest matchup on Sunday comes down to Jacksonville’s biggest consistent nemesis to date – game planning for a backup quarterback. UDFA QB Brady Cook is truly an enigma with just three quarters of NFL game tape. I wouldn’t blame fans for having pregame thoughts of Bengals’ backup quarterback Jake Browning or Texans clipboard holder Davis Mills, who combined to go 2-0 versus Jacksonville.

Gus: New York’s rushing offense against Jacksonville’s rushing defense. It seems that RB Breece Hall is the Jets’ only hope with WR Garrett Wilson and QBs Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor expected to miss Sunday’s game. New York is already the NFL’s run-heaviest offense in terms of pass rate over expected (-7.1%), but by the same metric, opposing offenses throw at Jacksonville (avoid running at them) at the highest clip in the league (+3.9%). The Jets need Hall to be Superman on Sunday, but the Jaguars have enough kryptonite to stop him.

Henry: This is a game the Jags should win easily, so I am excited to see this defense dominate. The quarterbacks the Jets could throw out are awful, which gives some hope that the defense can get a big sack afternoon and get a few turnovers. Run the numbers up on Sunday.

Question 3: Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon
: Travis Etienne. The Jets’ defense has allowed over 150 rushing yards to opposing offenses SEVEN times this season, and the Jaguars run the ball at the fifth-highest clip in the league (29 attempts per game). I think controlling the clock with the run game and ensuring the Jacksonville offense stays on the field as much as possible is the key to a win, and that goal will largely run through Etienne.

Travis: A special teams faceoff could be the difference maker in this matchup. The Jets lead the league in kick return average (29.8 yards), while Jacksonville is 10th (26.4). New York RB Kene Nwangwu leads the NFL in kick return average (35.1 on 13 returns and a return touchdown), while his teammate, WR Isaiah Williams, is also seventh among returners with 10+ returns (29.7 on 22 returns). Williams has also returned two punts for touchdowns, landing fifth in the league in punt return average (14.9). With the Jets likely in need of a spark, a special teams big play could be the thing that gives them life.

Gus: Jets WR Adonai Mitchell, who was traded from Indianapolis to New York as part of the Sauce Gardner trade. The 2024 second-round pick doesn’t seem to have the focus or drive to match his unworldly skill, which is why he’s already on his second team, but Mitchell is one of the few Jets players who can make a game-changing play. New York might not score on Sunday if Jacksonville can lock down Hall and Mitchell.

Henry: Hopefully, Josh Hines-Allen is a big X-factor. Can we get a 2-sack day early from JHA? Maybe a pick on a bad throw? I want to see, in what should be limited snaps, a huge day from Hines-Allen to help pad those late season stats he has been accumulating.

Final score prediction?

Dillon
: Jaguars 27, Jets 16

Travis: Jaguars 33, Jets 17

Gus: Jaguars 27, Jets 10

Henry: Jaguars 45, Jets 14

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And who should start at left tackle going forward?

Little has had an underwhelming season after signing a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension last December. He’s allowed the second-most sacks (9, per PFF) and blown the third-most blocks (40, per SIS) among all offensive linemen this year.

After he exited Week 13’s game with concussion symptoms, Van Lanen stepped up to replace him at left tackle. He allowed 2 pressures (no sacks) on 32 dropbacks in Week 13, then 1 pressure (no sacks) on 33 dropbacks in Week 14.

Van Lanen has been invaluable to the Jaguars this season for his ability to play any position on the line.

“Cole stepping in multiple different roles, being the Swiss Army knife that he’s been for us, has been really helpful,” said Liam Coen last week.

“He’s a great player, honestly,“ said DaVon Hamilton. ”He obviously hasn’t started a lot of games and whatnot, but I think he’s been a great player since college, honestly. I go against him all the time; he makes me better, so he’s a good player to me.”

Should the Jaguars continue to start Van Lanen at left tackle, or should they give Little another shot?
