Live Blog​

First quarter

The Jaguars won the coin toss and elected to defer. On the Chargers’ first offensive play, Travon Walker immediately pressured Justin Herbert on a bootleg rollout to force an intentional grounding penalty. Herbert threw two screens before L.A. was forced to punt.

Jacksonville picked up three first downs thanks to Austin Trammel, Jakobi Meyers, and Travis Etienne, but the drive stalled out when Trevor Lawrence sailed a 4th-and-3 pass to Meyers.

L.A. was in good field position with the Jaguars turning the ball over on the Chargers’ 41-yard line. Herbert completed a 13-yard throw to Oronde Gadsden and scrambled twice for small gains. His 3rd-and-3 pass to Gadsden was well-defended by Montaric Brown, and the Bolts settled for a 41-yard field goal.

Jacksonville marched 74 yards downfield in six plays, largely thanks to a bailout of a 31-yard DPI. That penalty put the Jaguars 15 yards from the endzone. Bhayshul Tuten took care of the rest by rushing for a first down, then a touchdown. The good guys are on the board!

Jaguars 7, Chargers 3

Second quarter

A split sack by Walker and Danny Striggow, followed by a huge TFL by Devin Lloyd, led to a three-and-out from the Chargers on their next drive.

Jacksonville promptly lost all its momentum thanks to an interception by Lawrence. It was about as ugly as usual.

The Chargers had good field position again and found themselves at 3rd-and-10 in the redzone. Herbert bought some time, but Josh Hines-Allen eventually swooped in to record his 56th career sack — the franchise’s all-time record! Congrats, 41!

The sack ended the Chargers’ touchdown hopes, but they still connected on a 46-yard field goal.

Lawrence had another brutal pass on Jacksonville’s next drive — he underthrew Quintin Morris on a well-designed leak route that should’ve been a touchdown. The good news is that, behind an uber-efficient rushing attack, the Jaguars marched downfield and scored anyway! Etienne punched in a 2-yard touchdown on a wildcat carry.

Jaguars 14, Chargers 6

Los Angeles used up pretty much all of the remaining three and a half minutes in the first half. UDFA rookie B.J. Green II had a hard-hitting sack that drew an unnecessary roughness penalty, but the Jaguars were still able to force a punt.

Third quarter

Jacksonville opened the second half with a nice 11-play, 65-yard scoring drive. It was propelled by an 11-yard throw to Parker Washington, a 21-yarder to Meyers, and a 10-yarder to Tim Patrick, and Lawrence finished it with his legs. What could go wrong over the next 20 minutes of game time?

For a second time, Travon Walker helped force a three-and-out by getting a hit on Herbert.

Fourth quarter

Jacksonville’s second drive of the second half bled into the final quarter, as the offense put together a 16-play, 76-yard drive that took over nine minutes off the clock (!) and resulted in a Tim Patrick touchdown. Liam Coen is in his bag, folks.

Herbert’s next pass attempt was INTERCEPTED by Antonio Johnson! He returned it 44 yards to the Chargers’ 13-yard line!

Jaguars 35, Chargers 6

With 11 minutes remaining, Jim Harbaugh raised the white flag by replacing Herbert with Trey Lance. Both teams weirdly exchanged 4-and-outs for consecutive turnovers on downs.

Lance evaded a sack against Dawuane Smoot and found Gadsden down the sideline for 28 yards, but their drive eventually ended with a 4th down sack by Arik Armstead. He has 5.5 sacks this season, his most since 2021.

Coen put Nick Mullens and the rest of Jacksonville’s backups in to ice the game. Thank goodness we didn’t get a repeat of last week!

Jaguars Rookie Report: Bhayshul Tuten breaks out in dominant Week 11

The Jacksonville Jaguars followed up their disastrous collapse against the Texans a week ago with a truly dominant performance on Sunday. The Jags beat the visiting LA Chargers 35 to 6 which was their largest margin of victory since the Sacksonville days in 2017. The running game lead the charge to the offensive explosion and it was rookie running back, Bhayshul Tuten, that really set the tone early as he had his best game as a pro on Sunday.

He was the story of the day but it was a solid overall showing across the board from the 2025 rookie draft class. Let’s break down each of their performances in the huge Week 11 win.

Bhayshul Tuten

Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten flashed in a major way on Sunday and the coaching staff rewarded him for it by giving him a career-high 15 carries in the game. He finished with 74 yards and a TD and would have likely had an even bigger day if not for an injury early in the fourth quarter. Before that, he had out-carried Travis Etienne 15 to 13 and seven of those carries went for first downs. One of those came on a hard-earned fourth down conversion in the second quarter which resulted in an eventual touchdown that sparked a 28-0 run the rest of the way.

His power and speed through the gaps have flashed all year but this was the first time fans got a heavy dose of what Tuten can do for this offense. His style of running is a terrific contrast to what Etienne provides, and if he keeps running like this, we could see more of a split backfield approach as the team leans into this run-heavy identity.

Wyatt Milum

Due to the game getting out of hand late, Wyatt Milum was able to get his first offensive snaps of the season on Sunday as he came in for the final eight play drive to drain the clock. He helped pave the way for an eight play drive of all running plays that gained 36 yards and converted two fourth and short opportunities. Milum just recently returned from injury after having an impressive camp.

Jack Kiser

Linebacker Jack Kiser continues to be a core special teamer for the Jaguars but he had a quiet day on Sunday. He didn’t register a tackle, however, he did fill his gaps for a kick coverage unit that allowed less than 25 yards a return against the Chargers which had been a bit of an issue over the last few weeks.

Rayuan Lane

Safety Rayuan Lane played 14 special teams stats and seven defensive snaps against the Chargers on Sunday. Although he didn’t record anything in the stat column, Lane is always in the mix when he’s on the field and continues to showcase a high energy and effort whenever he’s called upon. Lane is proving to be an important depth piece at safety and has been awesome on special teams all season long.

Jonah Monheim

Like Milum, Jonah Monehim was on the field for that final clock-draining drive to end the game on Sunday and he did a nice job to seal his man on each of the eight runs. This marks the fourth game in the last six in which Monheim has gotten some play with the offense which will go a long way in his development. he continues to be a quality developmental depth piece on the interior for the Jaguars.

LeQuint Allen

On that eight play 36 yard drive mentioned, LeQuint Allen Jr. was the benefactor of each of those carries as he nearly doubled his season total in rushes (5) on the day. On top of that, Allen continues to be called upon for blitz pickup duty on passing downs and has answered the bell and more. He’s got an old school mentality at the running back position as he doesn’t mind doing the dirty work out of the backfield. This has earned him a lot of praise over the course of the season as Allen has become a favorite of fans, coaches and players alike.

Jaguars’ BJ Green Avoids Fine for Justin Herbert Hit

In an interesting series of events, the Jacksonville Jaguars received a bit of unexpected news on Saturday when the league released its weekly Accountability Report, which lists all fines levied each week for all NFL matchups. Only one fine was listed from the Los Angeles Chargers matchup to the Jaguars, and it wasn’t applied to a Jacksonville player. Chargers Linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips was fined $11,160 for his fourth-quarter facemask on Jacksonville running back LeQuint Allen, during the Jaguars’ fourth-and-one conversion with under three minutes remaining in the game.

On a more surprising note, Jaguars rookie undrafted free agent defensive end BJ Green II avoided a fine by the NFL for his hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. Many around the league expected Green to be fined the league standard for roughing the quarterback penalty of $17,389 for the hard second-quarter hit, which resulted in a flag for Unnecessary Roughness, putting the Chargers’ quarterback in the blue medical tent temporarily before halftime.

Green bowled over Los Angeles right tackle Trey Pipkins, sacked Herbert, while seemingly keeping his body weight to the side, attempting to avoid driving the quarterback into the ground. Nevertheless, the controversial play was penalized, negating Green’s first career sack, to the ire of Jacksonville fans and even former NFL Defensive Player of the Year (and Houston Texan) defensive end J.J. Watt.

Looks like he might actually brace the fall with his right arm.

While Chargers fans will undoubtedly be furious that the league didn’t fine Green, they made the right call here in refusing any additional punishment. Unfortunately, Green will still not receive credit for the negated sack. However, with Travon Walker ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, BJ will likely have additional opportunities to make up for this lost opportunity.

Jaguars vs Cardinals: How to Watch Week 12

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals are set to square off in Week 12 of the 2025 season.

“Ultimately in a season, there’s highs and lows,” head coach Liam Coen said Wednesday. “But when you play as we played on Sunday, there’s a new standard now in terms of, okay, well that’s what it looks like when we prepare the way we did and got ourselves in the mindset, mentality to go play that way. And performed obviously, cleaner. The physicality and all that I really appreciated and we want every week, but it was just cleaner in a lot of ways and in all three phases. And so, that is the standard and we all kind of owe it to each other in that room to uphold that standard moving forward in terms of the way that we go about our business, prepare and ultimately play.”

OT Thriller: Jaguars Win in Arizona despite 4 Turnover Day by Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars left the deserts of Arizona with a wild 27-24 win over the 3-8 Arizona Cardinals added to their record. A tough day at the office by quarterback Trevor Lawrence was salvaged by his clutch performance when it mattered most. The Jacksonville defense swarmed Cardinal’s quarterback in Jacoby Brissett, with 6 sacks on the day. Additionally, the win moves Jacksonville up to the sixth seed in the AFC playoff standings. While not the win most expected, there are no style points for victories in the NFL.

Pregame Notes:

The following Arizona players did not play in this one: WR Marvin Harrison Jr (appendix surgery), RB Emari Demercado (ankle), RB Trey Benson (meniscus), RT Jonah Williams (shoulder), and multiple others. Across the Cardinals’ roster, 15 players were listed on IR including QB Kyler Murray and Benson.

For Jacksonville, RT Anton Harrison (knee/ankle), WR Brian Thomas Jr (ankle), TE Hunter Long (hip/knee), DE Travon Walker (knee), and LB Yasir Abdullah (finger) were all inactive due to injuries throughout the week. Additionally WR/CB Travis Hunter, S Eric Murray, and S Caleb Ransaw are all on injured reserve, while TE Brenton Strange made his return from IR after a six week absence due to a hip injury.

1st Quarter

Jacksonville kicked the matchup off on defense, missing DE Travon Walker. Nevertheless, the pressure on the quarterback remained, as Dennis Gardeck brought the Cardinals’ opening drive to a close with a Brissett sack on third-and-six.

The Jaguars offense proceeded to quickly drive 97-yards on just four plays in their opening drive. Brenton Strange immediately announced his presence, bringing in a 30-yard reception on Lawrence’s first pass, Travis Etienne then burst through the line for an explosive 45-yard run on the next snap, which he then followed up with a touchdown catch. Jacksonville’s defense again gave Brissett trouble on the next series, with the only Cardinals glimpses of life occuring when blitzing. The defense regularly produced when rushing only four, as Davon Hamilton secured a the sack on this drive to force third down, where Jacksonville eventually forced the punt on the following play. The celebration was short-lived, however, as the Jacksonville offense instead surrendered points just three plays later, as Brenton Strange chipped the blitzing Jalen Thompson, who Lawrence did not see. 2nd Quarter

On the following drive, Lawrence pulled his own number, on consecutive third downs, rushing for 19 and 9-yard conversions. Yet, the Cardinals’ Nick Rallis defense continued to give the Jacksonville offense trouble identifying the blitz, with Lawrence being sacked on back to back drives – this one via Budda Baker on third down. Cam Little completed the 52-yard field goal to retake the lead. (Jaguars 10, Cardinals 7)

The Cardinals’ offense then put together their best drive of the day to take their first lead of the game. The Arizona offense seemed to began to find their grove in the quick passing game, a season-long struggle for the Jacksonville defense. The 9 play, 65-yard, 5:24 drive was helped courtesy of a 5-yard (automatic first down) Greg Newsome Illegal Contact penalty and a Devin Lloyd Roughing the Passer call. Arizona wrapped up the scoring drive with a Bam Knight one-yard touchdown rush to take the lead. (Jaguars 10, Cardinals 14)

The Jacksonville offense went three-and-out on the next drive, continuing to have no answer for the Cardinals’ third down pressure packages. While Lawrence wasn’t sacked on the down, barely getting rid of the pass, the damage was done with the drive ended. As a note, LT Walker Little left the game with a knee injury on the drive, with rookie Wyatt Milum entering the matchup in his absence.

After seemingly stopping the Cardinals on third down, forcing a fourth-and-one at the Arizona 34, Jonathan Gannon decided to line up to attempt to pick up the conversion or try to force Jacksonville to jump offsides. Jacksonville obliged, as Maason Smith jumped into the neutral zone to grant them the free first down. However, the Jaguars were bailed out, as the Cardinals’ Kicker Chad Ryland missed the 33-yard chip shot field goal. Arizona then took the four point lead into the half, after a Tim Patrick reception was reviewed and determined to be incomplete, followed by a third Lawrence sack as the halftime clock expired.

At the half, Trevor Lawrence was 3/8 for 51-yards, one touchdown, one fumble for an Arizona touchdown, and 3 carries for 26-yards (8.7 YPC). Brissett was 20/25 for 161-yards, no touchdowns or turnovers at the half.

3rd Quarter

Jacksonville’s game to forget continued after the half, after an explosive Bhayshul Tuten 39-yard return set the offense up to quickly drive into the Arizona redzone, before disaster stroke via the former ‘Mayor of Jacksonville”, Calais Campbell.

With Meyers immediately beating the coverage off the line, what looked to be a sure touchdown turned into an endzone turnover. The defense stood strong forcing a three-and-out to give the ball back to the offense following an explosive 43-yard Parker Washington punt return. Meyers and Lawrence refused to be denied on this drive, as Lawrence hit Jakobi in the endzone, while under pressure. Jacksonville regained the lead with 8:10 remaining in the third. After giving up an early, contested Trey McBride first down (Montaric Brown in coverage) the defensive pressure ensured as Dennis Gardecks’ revenge game continued as he picked up his second sack of the matchup (1.5 sacks). For the second time in this matchup the Jaguars’ offense then gave the ball to the opposing team following what seemed to be a tide-turning defensive series, with a Trevor Lawrence turnover as his pass intended for Meyers was intercepted by Cardinals LB Akeem Davis-Gaither at the Jacksonville 39-yard line – Lawrence’s third turnover of the game.

However, the defense again bailed the offense out, this time via a Devin Lloyd first down sack which temporarily injured Brissett, followed by a five yard loss on a tight end rush on the following snap, with an eventual three-and-out punt.

4th Quarter

Following punts by both teams, the Jacksonville offense then began their first fourth quarter series in the shadow of their own endzone, from their own one-yard line. After riding the legs of Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten to get out of the redzone, Trevor Lawrence surrendered his fourth turnover of the game with a lead, this one a Budda Baker diving interception.

With the game on the line, the Jacksonville defense again came up big with an Antonio Johnson second down sack and an offensive pass interference setting up an eventual fourth and long. The last down last gasp fell incomplete. However, Jacksonville was unable to convert a first down, opting to pass on a short field goal attempt to go up 6 points with under two minutes to go. The fourth down play, an endzone pass to Tim Patrick, fell incomplete, giving Arizona the ball at their 20 with 1:40 remaining and no time outs, and down by three. Arizona used all but three of those seconds to move down the field with receptions of 16 and 31-yards, as Brissett found Dortch and Wilson to enter the redzone. Arizona attacked CB Christian Braswell on a double move with the game in the balance. However, with no timeouts remaining, they went the conservative router, converting the tying field goal from the 11-yard line with six second remaining. (Jaguars 24, Cardinals 24)

Overtime

The Jacksonville offense swiftly moved down the field to open the extra period, as Parker Washington climbed the latter on first down for a 25-yard sideline gain.

OT Thriller: Jaguars Win in Arizona despite 4 Turnover Day by Lawrence

However, on third and four, Tim Patrick ran uncovered for what likely would have gone for the first down conversion, if not a touchdown. Patrick failed to notice that he was running wide open while running the clearout route.

After a first down Josh Hines-Allen sack and an Arizona conversion, the Cardinals were unable to convert the final fourth-and-four attempt from the 42-yard line, opting to go for it than attempt the 60-yard attempt. The pass fell incomplete with Jacksonville standing at 7-4.

My candidate for the best highlight is Trevor Lawrence and Parker Washington connecting for the back of the endzone throw while under pressure to take the lead. After giving up an untimely fourth turnover of the game, Lawrence made up for it never missing on the following drive to regain it.

Post-game notables:

1. Pass Rush Showed up

With the Jaguars entering the game missing defensive end Travon Walker, there were questions on if Jacksonville would be able to pressure Brissett following his 57 pass attempts in week 11. Well, Arizona allowed 42 pressures, six sacks, and seven QB hits in this one with both Dennis Gardeck and Devin Lloyd walking away with 1.5 sacks. And while this multi-sack game may have been expected, it’s a welcome sight to see this Jacksonville front outkick the coverage when matched up against the offensive lines they should dominate.

2. A Game to Forget For Lawrence

In a season of inconsistent quarterback play, Lawrence’s performance on Sunday left more questions than answers. A four turnover day highlighted by a defensive turnover surrendered soiled what would and should have been a multi-touchdown victory for Jacksonville. In an even more difficult to understand performance, 3 of the 4 turnovers occurred with the Jaguars in control of the game and leading. Liam Coen has his work cut out for him in attempting to figure out how to get the best out of ‘gunslinger’, “Let it Rip” Trevor, while reigning him in to be a game manager who doesn’t give the matchup away whenever they have a lead.

3. Playoffs on deck?

However frustrating the performance may have been, at the end of the day your Jacksonville Jaguars are 7 and 4, one game back in the AFC South race, and the sixth seed in the AFC following a four win campaign and the offseason firing of Trent Baalke. There’s not much else that can reframe the current scenario better than those facts. Enjoy your Victory Monday, Duval. Winning feels good.

Jaguars vs. Cardinals winners and losers: Defense steps up in chaotic OT win

The Jacksonville Jaguars have won yet another rollercoaster, chaos-filled football game with the team’s 27-24 overtime win over the Arizona Cardinals.

It’s getting hard to describe this Jaguars team as they couldn’t be more up and down. While they may be heart attack inducing every weekend, they are still gutting out one-score games. So far this year the Jags have won five games decided by a single score. That is one of the big signs of a solid team, especially when it comes to getting late in the season and in the playoffs.

Despite how frustrating this team may be to watch, the Jags are still 7-4 and firmly in the playoff hunt within the AFC. Had one flag gone Jacksonville’s way at Cincinnati and had the team not completely collapsed against the Texans, they’d be 9-2.

The defense stepped up Sunday on the west coast as the offense sputtered. Next week it could be the opposite. So buckle up, keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times and be ready for anything.

WINNERS

Defense

The Jags had six sacks today. They had two last week. They had eight total sacks in the previous seven games combined.

There’s been a lot of talk this season, and in this weekly segment, about the lack of sacks from the Jags. Travon Walker being hurt has not helped, but there still is plenty of talent to go around. The team captured that holistically Sunday after a strong outing last week. In terms of sacks, Dennis Gardeck and Devin Lloyd each had 1.5. Josh Hines-Allen, DaVon Hamilton and Antonio Johnson each added a solo sack of their own.

The best part about that list is the guys actually getting those sacks.

In a revenge outing against the Cardinals, Gardeck was all over the place. He hadn’t had a sack all year but came alive against his former team. Lloyd was back to banging heads from the linebacker position. Don’t look now but JHA has sacks in consecutive games for the first time this season. Even a guy like Johnson got in the backfield after a strong game last week.

It was a whole defensive effort and a true back to form performance by the defense overall.

Trevor Lawrence threw three picks and the defense gave up just one touchdown off of those turnovers. Lawrence’s fumble was returned for a score so this defensive unit should only be on the hook for 17 total points. That’s 23 combined points in the last two weeks. That’s a winning strategy.

Injuries have not helped this unit – see Christian Braswell having to play a ton and biting on the double move in the fourth – but the defense responds. This group bottomed out against the Texans three weeks ago but have responded in a humongous way in the past two weeks.

Foye Oluokun

Getting his own special defensive shoutout is Foye Oluokun, who surpassed 1,000 career tackles in the win. He was tied with Andrew Wingard for a team-high 10 tackles. He also added a tackle for loss.

Lloyd was certainly the flashier linebacker of the two, but Oluokun plays with such consistency that it shouldn’t be overshadowed. Having a savvy veteran like Oluokun to flank Lloyd is an awesome combo. Add in Gardeck playing well and the Jags have a hell of a linebacker unit.

And a special shoutout to Yale football for winning the Ivy League and clinching a spot in the FCS playoffs. Big weekend for Oluokun.

Cam Little

Simple and effective game for good ol’ Cam Little. Whoever said he was washed and the team should add another kicking leg should be ashamed!

Little went 2/2 from the field and 3/3 on extra points. He connected on a pair of 52-yarders including the game winner in overtime. In a game that was in part decided by a missed field goal, it was actually settling to know we had Little coming out to win a ball game.

Parker Washington

The best day by a wide receiver was had by Parker Washington, leading the wide receiver room with five catches for 71 yards and a score.

It has been up to Washington and Jakobi Meyers to hold up the offense in the absence of Travis Hunter, Brenton Strange and Brian Thomas Jr. The pair have done a pretty good job of locking it down.

No one play by Washington was bigger than his fourth quarter touchdown to give his team the lead, 24-21. Lawrence trusted his guy and they had the connection on what should have been the gamewinner.

Something that might get a little forgotten by way of how the game ended was Washington having a strong day as a returner. While he only returned two punts, he did take one for 43 yards. That return set up a six play, 27 yard touchdown drive. We will not be discussing the safety that wasn’t a safety, thank you.

Brenton Strange

Good golly this team needed Brenton Strange back badly.

In his first game in about a month and a half, all Strange did was set his career high in receiving with 93 yards. He caught all five of his targets and led the team overall in catches and yards.

What a welcome back party for Strange. This game showed just how much a solid tight end can not only help this offense but just help Lawrence in all kinds of situations. Evan Engram was the safety blanket for a few years for Lawrence, now that guy is Strange. Either way, if it helps us win, keep on slinging the ball to the tight ends Trevor.

LOSERS

Offensive Linemen

Ok, there isn’t a healthy linemen left on this team. That’s probably not great. And it showed a bit Sunday.

Lawrence was sacked three times with one of those resulting in a scoop and score fumble. Not every sack was on the offensive line, it never is, but with how many guys that are banged up on this squad it feels like the dam could break at any second.

Anton Harrison was already not playing. Then Chuma Edoga got hurt. And Walker Little got briefly banged up. It isn’t like there is a ton of depth just sitting around on the bench. With Cole Van Lanen playing right tackle, the depth was almost depleted. This group was a twisted ankle away from having a serious issue in Arizona.

They got out relatively alright in the end and the fumble didn’t ruin the game. But I grow weary watching this group, even when the Jags win.

Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence isn’t a loser today because his stat line sucks. His stat line does suck, but let’s look at it from a broader view.

The interception in the end zone was tipped. That’s hard to put all on Lawrence. The fumble came from a bad block about three seconds after the snap. That’s just unfortunate.

Lawrence’s pick across the middle in the third quarter was bad but Budda Baker made a solid play on the final pick. It’s so hard to judge this dude playing quarterback sometimes. Here is some more in-depth reading on the matter courtesy of Sports Illustrated.

He made some solid throws like the touchdown to Washington and he made some throws that really shock you like the touchdown to Meyers. And then he goes and tosses more picks.

The national conversation is all over the place about Lawrence but he is an all over the place quarterback. Maybe he is the perfect embodiment of what this team is: a rollercoaster. For as many awesome plays as he has, he has his usual handful of boneheaded, awful mistakes. Rollercoasters go up and around and all around and it feels like maybe that is simply what Lawrence is going to be moving forward.

Jaguars vs Titans: Week 13 opening odds

The Jacksonville Jaguars (7-4) will travel to face the Tennessee Titans (1-10) at 4:05 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Nissan Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 6.5-point favorites and the total is set at 41.5 points.

“We’re not going to apologize for winning around here,” head coach Liam Coen said after Jacksonville’s Week 12 dub in Arizona. “That’s not anything we’re going to do, being 3-0 on the west coast.”

“Guys stepped up. Nobody flinched, nobody was walking around, head down, disappointed or frustrated. You’ve got to keep playing and that’s been the message for the last few weeks is to just keep playing. These guys closed it out when we needed to.”

AFC Playoff Picture: Jacksonville Jaguars move up in wild card

The Jacksonville Jaguars won on Sunday and coupled with the Buffalo Bills loss on Thursday night, Jacksonville has moved up from seventh to sixth in the AFC. The Jaguars’ biggest helpers in Week 12 was none other than the Houston Texans, who knocked off the Bills.

The Indianapolis Colts lost, too, so the Jags have an even better shot at the division crown here in 2025.

The Baltimore Ravens moved into the top slot in their division with a win and a loss by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers stayed idle on their bye.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Colts, but they are still on the outside looking in with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Texans all at 6-5.

AFC standings after Week 12​

The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers were on the bye this week along with the Miami Dolphins.

In the three-way tie at 6-5, the Chiefs are eliminated first because of a worse AFC record than Pittsburgh and Houston. The Steelers wins have come against teams with 30 total wins while the Texans’ wins have come against teams with a combined 29 wins. That can change very quickly.

Our party’s postgame exit from the nosebleeds was surprisingly lethargic. Winning is great, especially when you’re at the stadium with your closest friends, but escaping an overtime game with a -4 turnover margin felt pretty grimy. Or maybe the stench was just a combo of too many beers and not enough showers.

Admittedly, this was not the Jaguars’ biggest numerical win against the Titans, but I chose this one because it is on my list of favorite games that I’ve attended and my first season with Big Cat Country. The Jaguars had 13 first downs, 222 total yards, and 23:48 time of possession, compared to Tennessee’s 19 first downs, 312 total yards, and 36:12 time of possession. A pass from Trevor Lawrence to Christian Kirk, and a strip sack caused by Rayshawn Jenkins picked up by Josh Hines-Allen recovering the fumble resulted in touchdowns. Trevor Lawrence completed 20 out of 32 attempted passes for 212 yards and was sacked once for a loss of nine yards. Travis Etienne led the team with 17 rushing yards, and Christian Kirk led the team with 99 receiving yards. Riley Patterson made both field goal attempts. Tyson Campbell had an interception. Foyesade Oluokun, Rayshawn Jenkins, Roy Robertson-Harris, Adam Gotsis, and Corey Peters sacked Josh Dobbs. Oluokun led the team with 13 combined tackles.

The bad

Attendance: 66,641

Jacksonville recorded 16 first downs, 237 total yards, and 21:30 time of possession, compared to Tennessee’s 26 first downs, 476 total yards, and 38:30 time of possession. Fred Taylor and Alvis Whitted scored touchdowns. Mark Brunell completed four out of 11 attempted passes for 95 yards before leaving the game with a knee sprain. Backup Jay Fiedler completed eight of his 22 attempted passes for 101 yards and was sacked three times for a loss of 18 yards. Fred Taylor led the team with 44 rushing yards, and Jimmy Smith led with 104 receiving yards.

The ugly

Another reason to dislike the Urban Meyer experiment, the only time the franchise was shut out by the Titans. The Jags had nine first downs, 192 total yards, and 23:03 time of possession, in comparison to the Titans’ 22 first downs, 263 total yards, and 36:57 time of possession. Trevor Lawrence completed 24 out of 40 attempted passes for 221 yards and was sacked three times for a loss of 37 yards. James Robinson led the team with four rushing yards, and Marvin Jones led with 70 receiving yards. Damien Wilson, Roy Robertson-Harris, Dawuane Smoot, and Jihad Ward sacked Ryan Tannehill.

Jaguars TE Brenton Strange a welcome relief in uncertain passing game

Throughout the 2025 NFL season, SB Nation’s Doug Farrar writes about the game’s Secret Superstars — those players whose performances might slip under the radar for whatever reasons. In this installment, we focus on Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange, whose return from injured reserve gave a passing game with all kinds of questions at least one definitive answer.

Five seasons into the Trevor Lawrence Experience, it’s tough to tell exactly what the Jacksonville Jaguars’ passing game is. It exists in a conventional sense, of course, but it’s not always easy to determine… well, to what end? In Jacksonville’s 27-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, a victory that pushed the team to 7-4 on the season, Lawrence completed 18 of 30 passes for 256 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 81.4. That high volatility rate is one of the things that has been a Lawrence issue all along — he’ll make some amazing throws, then some real head-scratchers, and a whole lot of “meh” in the middle.

First-year head coach Liam Coen, fresh off his work with Baker Mayfield in Tampa, and with a pretty decent history with Sean McVay before that, was supposed to be the fixer, but Lawrence seems to be in a lot of the same places he was before. Not that it can’t work over time, but we are where we are with this.

One player who has seen an uptick in productivity in the passing game is tight end Brenton Strange. The 2023 second-round pick from Penn State saw limited productivity in his rookie season, caught 40 passes on 54 targets for 411 yards and two touchdowns in 2024, and has worked through a quadriceps injury he suffered in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs. That put him on injured reserve, and he wasn’t able to return to play until last Sunday’s Cardinals game.

But what a return it was. Strange caught five passes on five targets for 93 yards, and he was beating up Arizona’s defense on corner routes to either side of the field, as well as simple sit and drag routes from which he could manufacture yards after the catch. Given the number of receivers who have struggled for whatever reasons in Coen’s offense this season, Strange’s breakout performance was a welcome relief.

Strange may not seem like a force multiplier if you’re not familiar with his game, but this season, the difference with and without him has been fairly obvious. Without him, the Jaguars’ EPA per play drops from +0.006 to -0.024, yards per play drops from 5.41 to 4.83, and as much as Strange can be effective when he’s running routes, he’s just as effective (if not even more so) as a blocker.

“Strange is a huge part of our offense and you see probably, unfortunately, it took his absence a little bit to really see how much he impacts opening things up, not just in the pass game,” offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said on November 13. “He’s a great target for Trevor, and I think they seem to have a connection when things break down. Trevor seems to find him, he’s an explosive athlete, so even when he’s looking to him first in the progression, you get matchup issues with Brenton Strange matched up on linebackers or even safeties at times, because he can run away from guys. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s physical, he wins running routes on corners sometimes, which is super impressive. But in the run game it’s a huge deal, all the different things he can do.

“So, when you say open it up, he quite literally can open up defenses sometimes by coming across, splitting defenses, inserting gaps, pulling around, and then at the point of attack, he can block defensive ends, bigger guys at times. So, it really creates a lot of opportunities. When he’s taking a defensive end, now you got another offensive lineman on a linebacker. So, it creates mismatches for us; having him is a huge part of our offense.”

As for Strange, he was just happy to be back on the field.

“Of course,” Strange said Monday, when asked whether it was his preference to get involved early in the Arizona game, as opposed to being worked back in gradually. “I feel like when I can get my hands on the ball early, it sets the tone for the game, and it kind of just gets me in the right mindset to play the rest of the game, and just be aggressive. So, I’m happy that the coaches got me involved early. It felt good to be back out there and back moving around. I’m blessed and I’m thankful, man.”

The Jaguars are the ones who should be thankful for Strange’s return, and they seem to be. With all the uncertainty spinning around that passing game right now, any port in a storm is a very big deal.

Jaguars vs Titans key matchups: Battle of the tight ends?

The Jacksonville Jaguars head to Nissan Stadium to take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Here are three key matchups to keep an eye on:

Brenton Strange vs Gunnar Helm​

Brenton Strange is 1 of 7 TE’s averaging 1.95+ YPRR on 100+ routes this season.

Let’s start with a cheeky little tight end matchup. In a game that wasn’t safe for those with any kind of heart condition, Brenton Strange was a welcome return to the Jaguars offense against the Arizona Cardinals. This passing game was equal parts explosive, equal parts frustrating on Sunday. But Strange proved to be a chain mover for Trevor Lawrence, with 93 yards on five catches. Ultimately, his timely return from injury was probably the difference, allowing the Jags to be in the AFC playoff hunt and keep pace with the Indianapolis Colts in the division.

Similarly for the Titans, Gunnar Helm has proven to be a reliable outlet for Cam Ward as both rookies find their feet in the league. It’s been a tough season in Tennessee, which most of us saw coming. But if Ward can hurt the Jaguars then it’s highly likely he leans on his tight ends to do so – Helm had 51 yards from six catches against the Seattle Seahawks, whilst his running mate Chig Okonkwo chipped in with another forty yards.

For offenses struggling for consistency, tight ends are a lifeline. Whichever team gets the most out of the position on Sunday will be in a good position to take home the win.

Travis Etienne had a reduced workload last weekend, with just 15 carries and three receptions. And whilst his supporting catch didn’t particularly help in terms of yards (Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen combined for 19 yards in total), it was quite clear that keeping him fresh worked. Etienne piled up 116 total yards and a score against the Cardinals, and looked as fresh as he had done in some time. It’s become somewhat obvious that Trevor Lawrence and Liam Coen are still fumbling a little when it comes to working out the chemistry for the passing game, and it’s only natural to lean on the run in such situations. If Etienne can carry the offense without being run into the ground, then the Jaguars should challenge a Titans run defense that is one of the worst in the league.

Cedric Gray will have other ideas. The second year pro has exploded in output in 2025, with more than 100 tackles already this season. He’s heating up too, with the linebacker racking up 34 of them in the last three games. No doubt he’ll be there to meet Etienne as he comes through the line of scrimmage – despite the Titan’s dire campaign thus far, this won’t be an easy assignment for the Jaguars running back.

This Titans team has been leaning on rookies heavily on offense this year. And they might have found another gem in slot receiver Chimere Dike, a 4th round pick out of Florida. Dike hasn’t been the most consistent weapon for Cam Ward – hardly a surprise considering the ineptitude of the unit as a whole. But he’s flashed playmaking ability – and when he goes off, HE GOES OFF. 93 yards against the Colts, 70 against the Patriots, and another 40 against the Seahawks on Sunday; it seems that Dike reserves his best performances for the tougher opponents.

Andrew Wingard had the best game of his career in Arizona on Sunday. 10 tackles, eight of which were solo takedowns; he pretty much shut down the Cards’ passing game when they attacked the seam. If Wingard can keep Dike quiet this weekend, then Ward will really have just Van Jefferson to target on the outside – giving the Jags a great chance to grab their eighth win of the season.

Not to spoil it for you…but you literally wrote the answer in your article:

Hines-Allen is the most accomplished pass rusher in franchise history. His sack against Justin Herbert on Sunday was the 56th of his career, passing Tony Bracken’s total of 55 for the most by a Jaguar.

And

The New Jersey native also ranks first in tackles for loss (69), first in quarterback hits (137), third in forced fumbles (10), and 17th in combined tackles (323) in franchise history. Sunday was his 100th regular season game, making him just the 30th Jaguar to reach that mark.

Since he was drafted seventh overall in 2019, Hines-Allen ranks sixth among all EDGE defenders in quarterback hits (138) and 10th in sacks (57.0).

His sack numbers could start to catch up with Jacksonville now aligning him across the formation.

Liam Coen was asked about Hines-Allen’s Week 12 deployment on Monday.

“I think we obviously affected the quarterback more. We had 6 sacks, the most since 2023, 15 QB hits. Five guys had sacks. So, I do think that continuing to try to be creative about getting our guys matchups, it’s no different than what you’re trying to do on offense or in special teams when it comes to trying to put your best players in positions to be successful in matchups that you think are favorable in your way. And we’ve got to continue to do that.”

As for the confidence survey, 79% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — down from 88% last week.

They keep winning in spite of Trevor. If he can,at the absolute minimum, clean up his game,there’s no end to the season in sight.

The Jags need three more victories to get into double digits…two games against the Twit-ans and the woeful Just End The Season (Jets) SHOULD do the trick. Anything else is gravy, just in time for Thanksgiving! Get it done, gentlemen!

We all wonder what the Jags’ brass is going to do about Trevor, but we should have lots of confidence in the young GM and Head Coach. Six sacks without Travon? Undrafted free agents making an impact on the defensive line? Depleted secondary and different guys stepping up every week? Jacobi Meyers pick up? And on it goes. We’re in good hands.

Hard to say. We have seen before, teams become hot and in sync late in the season…and make it to the SB. Maybe Trevor will click into place and become clutch in the playoffs.
Regardless, if that does happen…it will be a fleeting moment. I don’t expect Trevor to be much improved in 2026.

BTJ is back, we will get to see a combo with Meyers. Brenton Strange will have a huge impact in his return as we saw last week. Titans Defense has been notoriously bad with their secondary. I know it’s a division game and things get weird but if ever there was a time to get right and get into a groove with this offense, it’s this week. This is truly an if not when game in my opinion.

With a 7-4 record — and just one game behind the Colts in division standings — the Jacksonville Jaguars have over a 70% chance to make the playoffs, according to projection models by ESPN and The Athletic. But how good are they really?

As Week 13 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

As we approach the winter holidays, I want to speak directly to the Jaguars fans out there: choose happiness, not this. Since Jacksonville upset the Chiefs in early October (in what might be the most consequential game of the year), we’ve been waiting for quarterback Trevor Lawrence to turn the corner. Even in wins, the results of the passing game are inconclusive at best and disappointing at worst.

Winning was supposed to improve my optimism about this team, but instead it’s done absolutely nothing for me.

The Jags look a lot better in a lot of areas with Liam Coen — just not at quarterback. Lawrence ranks 30th in the league in completion percentage, 25th in yards per attempt and 29th in EPA per dropback.

The Jaguars have won three of their last four contests, and they’re now nipping at the Indianapolis Colts’ AFC South-leading heels. It’s how Jacksonville won those contests that’s so fascinating.

At the start of this stretch, the Jaguars needed a tipped two-point conversion pass attempt to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders. Jacksonville then experienced a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Houston Texans for its last loss. The Jags responded by blowing out the Los Angeles Chargers, then sneaking past the Arizona Cardinals in overtime.

The final score is all that matters, and Jacksonville is finding a way. Is this approach sustainable? Probably not. But the Jaguars have created an opportunity to snatch the AFC South from the Colts’ clutches if they continue to find a way.

The Trevor Lawrence experience is exhausting. He threw three touchdowns and three (bad) interceptions in Week 12, which sums it up. Liam Coen has to be beside himself at all the mistakes that a fifth-year QB shouldn’t make. Jacksonville is 7-4 in spite of it.

Glass half full: The Jaguars have won three of four since their Week 8 bye — including two overtime victories on the road — and the Colts’ lead in the AFC South has shrunk dramatically. If the Jags can take care of business against the 1-10 Titans this week, it will set up an epic showdown with Indy for divisional supremacy in Week 14 at Jacksonville — where the Colts haven’t won in more than a decade, strangely. However, there’s a glass-half-empty view, too. Beating the Raiders (now 2-9) and Cardinals (3-8) in OT only earns you so many flowers, and the shocking loss to the Texans in Week 10 still looms large. Sunday was hardly a thing of beauty, with Trevor Lawrence throwing three picks, although he rallied multiple times to lead important scoring drives. There’s a pluckiness to this group that can’t be denied, even as the Jaguars resemble flawed contenders.

There was some thought that this streak could end in 2024 because the Jaguars were playing in Detroit and it seemed like a natural fit. Jacksonville was coming off back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2004-05. Their 2021 No. 1 pick, Trevor Lawrence, was a recognizable figure, and the team was led by a Super Bowl-winning coach in Doug Pederson. However, the NFL put that matchup in Week 11, a wise decision that saved the national audience a collective bout of indigestion. The Lions won 52-6, marking the worst loss in Jaguars history. The streak buster could happen in 2026, when the Jaguars are scheduled to play in Dallas.

I am starting to agree with Bill Simmons in that Trevor Lawrence is inching into the Jameis Winston camp. While the outlier moments are not quite as severe and Liam Coen seems to have realized this, the Jaguars are the closest entity we have to a Winstonian week in and week out performance. And that is worth tuning in for.
