Jaguars Winners & Losers from Week 10: The Backup QB Curse Strikes Again

imagn-27547438.jpg

What is it about backup quarterbacks that they get superpowers when playing the Jacksonville Jaguars?

It’s been Chad Henne before. It was Jake Browning (twice). On Sunday, it was Davis Mills winning just his sixth NFL game as he led the Houston Texans on a furious comeback to upset the Jags.

Jacksonville led 29-10 heading into the fourth quarter. They had a punt return touchdown, and even led the turnover battle. And yet the Jags flat out didn’t win. How often does that happen?

This year’s team has been a rollercoaster under a first-year head coach and first-year coordinators. It showed badly on Sunday afternoon. There have been plenty of messes this year, but that loss was definitely the worst. As can be expected, there are far more questions than answers after a defeat of that caliber. It didn’t ruin the team’s playoff position, though it did nothing to help secure it.

WINNERS

Jarrian Jones

The only defensive player you can at least make an argument about playing well over the weekend was Jarrian Jones.

Jones recorded the defense’s lone interception on Mills by jumping right in front of a route for his second career pick. He also led the team in tackles for loss with two, part of a five-TFL day for the Jags. Midway through the third quarter, Jones broke up a pass on fourth-and-5 to create another turnover for the defense.

No, he is not a perfect corner, but Jones certainly looked like he at least deserved to be playing football on the defensive side — which is more than many others could say.

Early INT for Jaguars CB Jarrian Jones!

Parker Washington

The overall best player on the day for Jacksonville was Parker Washington.

Washington caught a touchdown and returned a punt 72 yards for a score. He became the first player in franchise history to return three punts over the course of a career and the second Jag in the past 25 years to return a punt and catch a touchdown in one game.

In the absence of basically every other receiving threat, Washington has moved to WR1. Unsurprisingly, he led the team in targets with seven. His impact was basically felt just on the one touchdown catch as the passing offense went for a measly 158 yards overall, with Washington contributing 33 yards on three catches. Washington can only do so much about the rest of his offense being injured or not playing well.

Last week, I said Travis Etienne might be the team’s best offensive player. While Etienne did play alright Sunday, that crown might now belong to Washington.

LOSERS

Liam Coen

With the few bright spots now done with, we turn our attention once again to head coach Liam Coen. The question still needs to be asked: What the hell is this team practicing? How the hell is this team preparing? Because it clearly isn’t working consistently.

I am all for giving Coen a bit of grace, even at this point, when it comes to being a first-year head coach. It doesn’t just all come together overnight. However, there are glaring problems with this team that were noticeable in Week 1 that are still happening.

The offensive line has regressed mightily. The defense is Swiss Cheese. The quarterback is growing more and more lost every day. The Jags had nine penalties for 90 yards Sunday. The list goes on.

Coen has done a commendable job taking responsibility in postgame press conferences and in filmed media put out by the team. That only goes so far. It’s time to put those words into practice. No better way than to do it against a solid team in the Chargers.

”Nobody cares at the end of the day.”

Liam Coen is ready to move on from Sunday’s tough loss and shift focus to the Chargers this weekend.

Anthony Campanile

How the mighty have fallen!

Just a few short weeks ago, there were conversations being had that the Jags should be grateful for their lone season with defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile before he became a head coach next year. Those conversations have come to a halt.

This Jaguars’ roster was never going to be a world-beater. The team’s turnover flurry at the beginning of the season was always going to regress. But, wow, has this defense fallen off.

Injuries have not helped either side of the ball. Full stop. Though there are still starters along the defensive line. Many of the free agent acquisitions are still out there. Something has to be done.

All of this is just ranting, but at some point, there has to be SOMEONE on the defensive side of the ball that can step up and beat Davis freaking Mills. There is just no way that is too tall an order.

Campanile might still be a perfectly fine defensive coordinator and maybe one day a head coach. He will first have to figure out how to generate some sacks with his defensive line and how to stop backup quarterbacks from rewriting record books against his defense.

Walker Little and Chuma Edoga

What a turnstile afternoon it was for the Jaguars’ two tackles.

The Jags gave up five total sacks, 3.5 of which came to Danielle Hunter. On what could have been the drive to set up a game-winning field goal, Chuma Edoga commits a penalty. Walker Little led the team in pressures allowed with six. It was an all-around awful day for these two dudes who looked like they had never played football before.

Anton Harrison’s absence is being felt, but he certainly wasn’t playing that much better than Edoga. No one in the tackle room seems to be doing much of anything this season and it has killed the offense.

Danielle Hunter took over the game on Sunday. Very few players with his combination of speed and power. Put Walker Little in the Walls of Jericho pic.twitter.com/ZJS3qmc7aY

— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) November 10, 2025

Sacks are not just an offensive line stat, but there have now been three games where the Jags have allowed five or more sacks. The Jags are 0-3 in those games.

I find it hard to believe that James Gladstone would have given Little the contract he received from Tr**t B***ke. Each game that Little continues to play, that contract appears worse and worse. At least Edoga is supposed to be a swing guy. But he is awful right now too.

Chuma Edoga already has more penalties against him this year than in any other previous season since 2019. pic.twitter.com/2I98YWcwBu

— Nash Henry (@NashJagsNats22) November 9, 2025

Josh Hines-Allen

It brings me no pleasure to say this, but Josh Hines-Allen is not helping this team at all right now.

Hunter had more sacks on Sunday alone than Hines-Alen has all season. We can talk at length about how many times he may get double-teamed or how many pressures he gets.

At the end of the day, the dude is getting paid $88 million guaranteed to have two sacks after nine games.

The rest of his defensive line is just as pitiful. Travon Walker’s injury has basically killed this year for him. Arik Armstead still isn’t worth his contract. DaVon Hamilton exists.

When that’s the case, someone like Hines-Allen has to step up and make something happen. That just isn’t working for Jacksonville this year.

There is no world where this is solely on the shoulders of Hines-Allen. Far from it. Football is a team sport and his teammates are also failing him. You saw Hunter step up and make plays for his side Sunday when his team needed it. Where was Hines-Allen? Or anyone for that matter?

Thru 9 games, the Jags as a team have 12 sacks. It ranks dead last in the league.

Josh Hines Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead are the 6th most expensive DL in football.

All 3 were top 10 picks.

Calais Campbell (age 40) has more sacks than Allen and Walker COMBINED!!

Jaguars drop in NFL power rankings entering Week 11

gettyimages-2245069476.jpg

Jacksonville just blew a 19-point fourth quarter lead to Davis Mills and the Texans — trips to the water cooler haven’t been a little duller this week.

Still, as head coach Liam Coen said Monday, the Jaguars have more games left to play.

“This [past] game can’t beat us again. It can’t beat us on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. because we’re kicking off against the Chargers and have a very quality opponent coming into town.”

“It’s hard to move forward, but come Wednesday, we’re preparing for another opponent. When the players get back in the building, we are preparing for another opponent. We’ve got to get this tape fixed and corrected and moved on, but I’m not worried about losing the team by any means.”

As Week 11 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

USA Today: 14 (last week: 13)

From Nate Davis:

Despite Sunday’s implosion in Houston, you knew they’d make the AFC playoff field over the Chiefs if the season ended today (it doesn’t), right?

Pro Football Talk: 17 (13)

From Mike Florio:

The wheels could come off, quickly.

ESPN: 17 (15)

From Mike DiRocco:

Non-QB MVP: RB Travis Etienne Jr .

He has been the Jaguars’ best player all season and is on pace for a career-high 1,239 yards rushing. He’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry, which would be the second highest of his career if it holds. With Travis Hunter on IR and Brian Thomas Jr. dealing with an ankle injury, the offense has pretty much run through Etienne the past two games.

Bleacher Report: 17 (16)

From Kris Knox:

The Jaguars have been beaten fairly convincingly in three of their last four games—with an overtime win over the Raiders their only victory since early October—and significant issues have emerged. Opposing defenses seem to be catching up to Liam Coen’s scheme, and Trevor Lawrence hasn’t shown the growth most expected to see under the new head coach. Jacksonville’s secondary remains a liability too. After blowing a 19-point second-half lead to the Texans, the Jags need to find answers quickly if they hope to stay in the playoff picture.

NFL.com: 18 (15)

From Eric Edholm:

No sugar-coating here: This was one of the worst regular-season losses in franchise history. The Jaguars were beating the Texans and backup QB Davis Mills soundly on Sunday, up 29-10 thanks to good special teams and defense and just enough offense. Next Gen Stats gave them a 97% chance to win at that point. Somehow, Jacksonville’s defense allowed Mills to squirrel his way out of multiple sacks and lead three touchdown drives in just over a quarter, with a defensive TD tacked on as time expired for an additional layer of torture. Jacksonville is a one-point overtime win over Las Vegas away from having lost four straight. Liam Coen is facing his first crisis as Jaguars coach, as it has gotten very dark very fast.

The Ringer: 18 (17)

From Diante Lee:

Losing a multi-score lead to the Texans offense is embarrassing enough. Now, it’s time for the Jaguars to bounce back and plant their flag as a legitimate force in the AFC playoff picture, and there’s no better opportunity than against the Chargers. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence needs to put this team on his back and force his way to a victory—or that Fraud Watch sticker will be slapped on this team in record time.

CBS Sports: 19 (14)

From Pete Prisco:

Blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead to Davis Mills has to sting for this group. The defense cost them this one, but the offense doesn’t do enough.

The Athletic: 19 (15)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

Breakout player: Travis Etienne

Things aren’t going great in Jacksonville, where the Jaguars have lost three of four after a hot start. But at least Etienne is having a nice bounce-back season. He has 656 rushing yards, which ranks 12th in the league and tops last year’s total of 558. He also scored his third rushing touchdown Sunday, which topped last year’s total of two. Parker Washington, who had a 72-yard punt return touchdown Sunday and is on the way to career highs in catches and yards, deserves a nod, too.

Fox Sports: 19 (17)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

They led 29-10 in Houston entering the fourth quarter and threw it all away in embarrassing fashion. And it wasn’t just their defense. Their offense picked up just 11 fourth-quarter yards.

Yahoo Sports: 19 (19)

From Frank Schwab:

You can’t lose a game in which you lead 29-10 and are facing Davis Mills at quarterback. But the Jaguars probably didn’t deserve to win anyway. They were outgained 412-213. The offense disappeared in the fourth quarter as Houston rallied. Jacksonville isn’t a very good team.

Sports Illustrated: 20 (18)

From Conor Orr:

Here’s an interesting question for James Gladstone: What would you do if either the Rams, Jets or Browns—three of the teams with multiple first-round picks in this or next year’s draft—offered you one or both of those picks for Trevor Lawrence? I know he’s not the central issue right now after a game in which Davis Mills mounted a comeback, but that might be food for thought sooner rather than later.

Final score:
Chargers 30 – Jaguars 31
Attendance:
70,250

Of course, it’s the Wild Card game. I’ll never forget how loud the stadium was and the rollercoaster of emotions watching the biggest comeback in Jaguars history. The Jags started chipping away at a 27-point deficit when Evan Engram caught a touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence, followed by Marvin Jones during the third. After the Chargers’ kicker Cameron Dicker made a field goal, it was all Jaguars football from there. Zay Jones and Christian Kirk scored touchdowns, and Lawrence ran in the two-point conversion. Riley Patterson’s 36-yard field goal ended the game. Jacksonville had 24 first downs and 27:21 time of possession, compared to Los Angeles’s 18 first downs and 32:39. Trevor Lawrence completed 28 out of 47 attempted passes for 288 yards and was sacked twice for a loss of 15 yards. Travis Etienne led the team with 109 rushing yards, and Evan Engram led with 93 receiving yards. Jamal Agnew averaged 33.50 yards in kickoff returns, and Logan Cooke punted three times. Foye Oluokun led the team with 13 combined tackles. Joshua Hines-Allen, Roy Robertson-Harris, Travon Walker, and Folorunso Fatukasi collectively sacked Justin Herbert three times.

Jaguars TE Brenton Strange’s 21-day practice window opened

gettyimages-2241245589.jpg

Additional help may be on the way for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the team has officially announced the opening of tight end Brenton Strange’s 21-day practice window to return from the Injured Reserve list. On Monday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen indicated that this expected move would occur, stating, “We’re obviously hopeful [Strange could play this Sunday] but have to take it day to day.” With Strange practicing this week in his return from a hip/quadriceps injury suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs in week five, the team’s recent issues of tight end depth could be nearing an end.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed TE Brenton Strange on the Injured Reserve – Designated for Return List and opened his 21-day practice period.

— JaguarsPR (@JaguarsPR) November 12, 2025

Strange can now be activated from the Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return List as early as this week versus the Los Angeles Chargers, should he respond positively to his increase in practice reps. However, if after the full 21 days have passed, the Jaguars still haven’t activated Strange, he will not be able to play the remainder of the season, including the postseason. With this move, he is now cleared to proceed with all football activities, practices, etc.

BRENTON STRANGE DECLEATER 😳#DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/t0gNqLI114

— Andrew Gibson (@1010XLAG) September 8, 2025

Strange, a second-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, has appeared in 36 total games in his first three seasons, with an expansion of his role in 2025, as the team moved on from prior starting tight end Evan Engram. Entering the week five matchup where Strange suffered his second quarter injury, the sure-handed tight end led Jacksonville pass catchers in catches (20) on just 24 targets, while landing second on the team in receiving yards (204), and a 10.2 yard per reception average.

Strange’s presence in the Jacksonville run game will be most welcomed, as he was quickly becoming known around the league as one of the best all-around tight end prospects, following league-wide attention on his physical blocking.

Jaguars vs Chargers key matchups: run game to get back on track?

imagn-27547523.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to EverBank Stadium on Sunday. Here are three battles to keep your eye on:

Travis Etienne vs Daiyan Henley

Touchdown for Etienne!

JAXvsHOU on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/SDBm25UPAx

— NFL (@NFL) November 9, 2025

There’s no easy way to say this; the Jaguars offense STUNK last week against the Houston Texans. Despite having a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, much of Jacksonville’s scoreboard dominance came from early turnovers forced by the defense, opportunities that Trevor Lawrence & co largely couldn’t convert into touchdowns and the team had to settle for field goals. And when it mattered, the Jags couldn’t move the football

The run game, fairly consistent this season, was also underwhelming on Sunday. Travis Etienne will be determined to improve on a 58-yard performance that saw him post just 3.6 yards per carry. We know that this offense typically goes how their ground game goes – in order to unlock the under-fire Lawrence his lead running back will have to deliver.

The Texans have an elite defense, and so do the Jags’ next opponents. The Chargers are coming off the back of a strong Sunday Night Football performance where they held the Pittsburgh Steelers to just 234 yards of offense. That being said, Jaylen Warren showed you can run on this defensive front with 70 yards from just 14 carries. Trying to bottle up Etienne will be third-year linebacker Daiyan Henley, who leads the Chargers this season with 67 tackles. Henley’s season is all the more impressive considering the recent death of his brother. Etienne will need to have a big day for the Jaguars to win this game.

Jarrian Jones vs Ladd McConkey

Davis Mills INT. Zero blitz. Mills makes correct decision. Just an awesome play by Jarrian Jones who filled in for Jourdan Lewis. Christian Kirk myabe could work back some, tough ask, really just a great play. pic.twitter.com/uVhqPWu26D

— Houston Stressans (@TexansCommenter) November 11, 2025

Since joining the team in free agency, Jourdan Lewis has been one of the standout performers on a spicy Jaguars defense. A neck injury sustained against the Las Vegas Raiders meant the nickel corner was absent for last week’s game against the Texans. In his absence Jarrian Jones stepped in and did well; the versatile defensive back making four tackles, two pass breakups and recording an interception on the first drive of the game. With Lewis’ outlook no clearer as of Wednesday, expect Jones to deputise in the slot once again.

Jones will have his hands full in Week 11. Ladd McConkey might only be in his second year, but he’s immediately become one of the most devastating slot receivers in the NFL. After racking up 1,149 yards as a rookie he’s continued to terrorize defenses this season – and posted his best stat line of 2025 last Sunday, turning four catches into 107 yards and a touchdown. Justin Herbert is an elite quarterback in his own right, but having a weapon like McConkey at his disposal makes his job a hell of a lot easier.

The Jags will be hoping that Jones can make a similar impact this weekend as they try to control this explosive Chargers passing game.

Travon Walker vs Trey Pipkins

Pat McAfee doing the Lord's work pic.twitter.com/TUf71kD40H

— pinkpanther (@pinkpanther4056) November 10, 2025

If there’s one weakness to this Chargers team, it’s the right side of their offensive line. Devastating injuries to Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt have seen Los Angeles move pieces around in order to try and keep Justin Herbert upright. The results have been, as you might imagine, inconsistent at best. According to PFF, right tackle Trey Pipkins, right guard Mekhi Becton and center Bradley Bozeman rank near to or right at the bottom of their respective positions when it comes to grades. The Chargers appear to have survived thus far despite this vulnerability, but the Jaguars have the tools to attack them on Sunday.

There were doubts as to whether Travon Walker was worthy of the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. But since his rookie season Walker has elevated his game on an almost weekly basis, and now affects offenses every Sunday. Two back to back 10-sack seasons justify Trent Baalke’s selection (remember him?), and he’ll be chomping at the bit to get after Herbert this weekend.

If Walker can put the right side of that line on skates, the Jaguars have a chance to upset the odds and earn their sixth win of the season.

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Will Jacksonville make the playoffs?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And how do you expect this season to end?

Jacksonville certainly didn’t look like a playoff-caliber team in its most recent game. With a 5-4 record and a tiebreaker over Kansas City, though, Liam Coen’s team is still projected to make the postseason.

“It’s definitely a test,” Trevor Lawrence said of this week’s matchup against the Chargers. “Every week is a test of your team and your locker room and your culture.”

“That’s the thing about the NFL is it doesn’t let up. You can’t stay in the rear-view mirror thinking about the last one because this one is just as important.”

Jacksonville has some weak opponents left on its schedule between the 3-7 Cardinals, the 2-7 Jets, and the 1-8 Titans. The playoffs are very much in reach. Can Coen and company get the job done?

First quarter

The Texans began the game with the ball. Davis Mills found Nico Collins for a 12-yard gain on the first play, but then Montaric Brown helped cause an incompletion along the sideline before Jarrian Jones came up with an interception!

Cam Little kicked a 55-yard field goal for the first points of the game, but a penalty on Houston gave Jacksonville a fresh set of downs. Little later nailed a 32-yarder when the drive stalled out in the red zone.

Jaguars 3, Texans 0

Jacksonville forced ANOTHER turnover on the ensuing kickoff! Ventrell Miller knocked the ball out, and Danny Striggow made the recovery.

Trevor Lawrence and company were able to maximize the opportunity this time. After Travis Etienne picked up a first down on the ground, Lawrence connected with the birthday boy, new addition Jakobi Meyers, for a score. The bad news is that the touchdown was wiped off the board by a questionable false start penalty; the good news is that the next touchdown stood.

Lawrence found Parker Washington in the corner of the endzone for six!

Jaguars 10, Texans 0

Houston picked up a pair of first downs, but its drive quickly fell apart thanks to consecutive penalties and an aborted snap.

A 17-yard punt return by Washington gave the Jaguars decent field position, but a 12-yard sack by Danielle Hunter and 2nd-and-5 led to a punt.

Second quarter

An Arik Amstead sack resulted in a three-and-out for the Texans, and on the ensuing punt, Washington was not touched…

Jaguars 17, Texans 0

Houston got some help from its rookies: a 27-yard catch by Jaylin Noel and a 21-yard run by Woody Marks set up a 23-yard field goal by our old friend Matthew Wright. He’s subbing in for Ka’imi Fairbairn (quad) today.

Jaguars 17, Texans 3

Jacksonville got across midfield, thanks to 16 yards via Etienne runs and 19 yards via Texans penalties. The drive stalled after Walker Little and Anton Harrison each committed a false start, but Little connected on a 53-yard field goal to extend the lead.

Jaguars 20, Texans 3

Mills completed an 11-yard pass to rookie Jayden Higgins, then threw passes of 19 and 16 yards to Collins. Marks finished the job by scoring on a 1-yard run.

Jaguars 20, Texans 10

The Jaguars had a chance to score with under two minutes remaining. Bhayshul Tuten scooted 33 yards on the kickoff return, then Washington caught a 17-yard pass. But the drive ended abruptly when Derek Stingley Jr. made a wildly impressive one-handed interception. Lawrence’s throw was a little behind his targeted receiver but it was really just a great play by Stingley.

Third quarter

Lawrence found Meyers for a 23-yard gain, then Etienne for 15 yards to move the ball past midfield. The drive stalled out when a Lawrence throw on 3rd-and-4 was batted down at the line of scrimmage. Still, the Jaguars left with points thanks to a 33-yard field goal by Little.

Jaguars 23, Texans 10

Houston turned the ball over on downs when Jones forced a pass breakup on 4th-and-5, then Jacksonville put together an 11-play drive that was capped by a 6-yard touchdown from Etienne.

The two-point try was no good, but the Jaguars are still up by three scores.

Jaguars 29, Texans 10

Fourth quarter

Houston scored on its next drive via a 12-yard touchdown by Higgins. Collins converted the two-point attempt.

12 minutes to go.

Jaguars 29, Texans 18

Looks like we’re gonna have to sweat this one out.

The Jaguars went three-and-out after going run-run-sack on their next possession. Mills and the Texans quickly responded, and in the blink of an eye, Dalton Schultz caught a 7-yard score to make it a one-point game. Fortunately, Brown intercepted the two-point try.

Jaguars 29, Texans 24

Once again, Jacksonville went three-and-out and Houston drove right down the field. Davis freakin’ Mills scored the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds to go. What is happening?!

Jaguars 29, Texans 30

Houston scored on a strip sack fumble return as the clock clicked down to 0. Jacksonville had gotten across midfield, but a huge 12-yard catch by Washington was, of course, negated by an offensive penalty.

That’s the biggest blown lead in franchise history. What a horrible L.

Jaguars vs Chargers: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 11

gettyimages-1246245078.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 11’s matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers at EverBank Stadium.

Question 1: Jacksonville blew the biggest lead in franchise history (19 points) in last week’s loss to Houston. How did that game affect your rest-of-season expectations?

Dillon Appleman: Early in the season, the struggles felt improvable with penalties and general miscues being the main complaint. However, as the season has progressed, we have seen more flaws from a personnel perspective that aren’t really fixable in-season. Sunday’s disastrous collapse just cemented the thought that this roster is just too flawed.

Travis Holmes: The Houston game honestly did nothing to move my season projection for the team, as I initially had them winning nine to 10 games with any injury luck. They’ve been excruciatingly unfortunate in that area over the past four weeks, moving me closer to that nine-win range – just missing the playoffs. I still see four wins remaining on this schedule, though none are guaranteed. If that’s the outcome that materializes, fans may not have appreciated the journey to get there. It would show clear progress while also raising questions regarding the future of this rebuild.

Gus Logue: I previously expected Jacksonville to make the postseason, whether as a divisional winner or a Wild Card team, but now I’m not so sure. The offense may be ‘good enough’ once Brenton Strange returns but the defense doesn’t look capable of stopping anyone. Jacksonville might have the league’s worst depth at DE, DT, and Safety. As Dillon alluded to, the Jaguars just don’t have the horses, and the young coaching staff could use more experience. I think the team will barely miss the playoffs.

Henry Zimmer: Sunday’s loss showed me that this team really isn’t good enough to compete with the top-level teams. The Jags continue to lose against backup quarterbacks and teams that they should easily beat. If you can’t be the bad teams, why would anyone think you can consistently beat the good ones?

Question 2: What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon
: Justin Herbert vs. Devin Lloyd. Herbert has already more than doubled his interception total (8) from a season ago (3) and there are still seven games left in his season. A handful of those have been when he’s targeting shallow routes in the middle of the field, where Devin Lloyd has made QBs pay all season long. His play recognition in that area could be key for a defense that desperately needs a spark after an abysmal performance a week ago.

Travis: Weirdly, the matchup I’m most looking forward to on Sunday isn’t between the Jaguars versus an opponent. It’s between Justin Herbert and his natural tendency to extend plays. Herbert LOVES to hold onto the ball, looking to create an explosive play in the passing game. But missing left tackle Joe Alt last week, he was sacked 5 times against Pittsburgh despite a career low 2.21-second time to throw (his only week under 2.6 seconds this year). Throughout much of the season, he has hovered around 3 seconds per throw, allowing defenses more opportunities to bring down the athletic quarterback. With recently acquired Trevor Penning likely to start this week, does Herbert revert to his normal pace, thus allowing this Jacksonville front a rare opportunity for a multi-sack game?

Gus: Josh Hines-Allen against whoever the Chargers start at LT, whether it’s Penning or Austin Deculus. JHA only needs a half sack to break the franchise’s all-time record. This would be a pretty ideal spot to do it. He is at EverBank Stadium, playing a premier quarterback, with a strong matchup advantage, in a borderline must-win game. Get it done, 41!

Henry: I will be watching to see which quarterback outduels the other. Trevor Lawrence played awfully in the playoffs but got it back and won that game. Outside of that, Herbert has been the better quarterback since they both were drafted. Hopefully Lawrence can win the day and silence some haters (like myself) after recent weeks.

Question 3: Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon
: I’m going to answer Trevor Lawrence for this question until he finally becomes the X-factor for a win. In the last four weeks, Lawrence completed 58% of his passes for just 4 passing touchdowns. On the season, Trevor is second to last in both of those categories among QBs with 9+ games this year. Only rookie Cam Ward has worse numbers. The excuses are aplenty, and understandable to an extent, but the team needs Lawrence to start overcoming the negatives of others and figure out a way to get a win this week against the Chargers at home.

Travis: For me, it has to be right tackle Anton Harrison. At best, Harrison may play on Sunday, hobbled with knee and ankle injuries. At worst, he’s at risk of missing the matchup after not practicing on Wednesday and Thursday. With Walker Little likely to need additional running back or tight end help to slow down the rush on the opposite side, a hobbled or absent right tackle creates a disastrous matchup when facing a Chargers defense ranked seventh in the league with 29 sacks.

Gus: Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II. The dynamic rookie tight end has effectively replaced Keenan Allen as Herbert’s underneath safety valve, and he’s been a more efficient target than the likes of Tyler Warren, Harold Fannin Jr., and Colston Loveland. Gadsden is the real deal. That’s bad news for Jacksonville, which ranks in the bottom five in catches, yards, and TDs allowed to tight ends this season.

Henry: This week’s X-Factor for me has to be the Jacksonville coaches. Can Liam Coen and crew regroup from the failure that was Sunday — and the handful of poor performances outside of that — and win a game at home against a good team? Going against a Jim Harbaugh-coached squad will be a good litmus test for the Jacksonville coaches.

Final score prediction?

Dillon
: Jaguars 17, Chargers 27

Travis: Jaguars 17, Chargers 27

Gus: Jaguars 23, Chargers 24

Henry: Jaguars 21, Chargers 35

This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans how they expect the 2025 season to end.

79% of respondents do not think the 5-4 Jags will make the postseason.

Jacksonville_2_111325.png

Jacksonville is above average by its record, but below average by just about any other measure.

Hopefully, the Jaguars will clean up self-inflicted mistakes and get healthier to make a playoff push. This week’s injury report was not a pretty sight. Brian Thomas Jr. returning this week would be a huge boost, especially with Anton Harrison, Brenton Strange, and Hunter Long all ruled out.

As for the confidence survey, 59% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — WAY down from 90% last week.

I think it will come down to:

  • Timing of Strange/BTJ coming back, and whether they find a good rhythm.
  • DBs clamping playing a little tighter so our pass rush can get home
  • Trevor stepping up and being more consistent
We absolutely have the talent…and the schedule…to win enough games for a wildcard spot.
mnkman322
When looking at our outcomes versus teams and their current win totals compared to the win totals of our remaining schedule the 2025 Jaguars might be on pace to win 8.33 games this year which would likely have them missing the playoffs.

Now a win against the Chargers could greatly shift those numbers as we have 4 7+ win teams remaining to play and our current record is .000 against those caliber of teams.
justincredubil02
I think this team might be good enough to beat anyone on the schedule, and bad enough to lose to anyone on the schedule. Given that they were once 4-1 and are now 5-4, and seemingly getting worse each week, I’m leaning more towards the latter happening more often and missing the playoffs.
JaxSouthsider
I think the collapse last week keeps us out.

We need 10 wins, I think. Titans 2x and Jets would get you to 8. The Colts have their Duval Hex, but they also have their best team since Luck hung them up. Chargers and Broncos are likely losses, too. Cardinals, I give us a slight edge.

I predict we end up 9-8, thanks to an easy schedule, but the AFC seven seed will have 10 wins
not_james_bond
They have no business in playoffs. Still to many issues with this team.
WestCoastJagwar
That’s the beauty of having an inconsistent team. They can be inconsistently bad and good. Guessing that this team will make the playoffs is about the same as predicting whether the coin will land heads or tails.
tagureit
Too many players have already checked out for the season. No way they make the playoffs without other AFC teams out Jagging the Jags.
Jaguardian
Answer: Affirmative.
archwithtal
The Jags will do just good enough to be one win away from making the playoffs, or they will make the wildcard and lose the first game. That seems to be the way we are trending. Mediocrity.
Yo Daddycrapper
Jim “The ICON” Mora comes alive once again and answers this very question …
BrevardJag321
Had a chance to sweep Houston. Would be much more confident had they held on last week. I say narrowly miss the playoffs because of that. They’re gonna lose a few more but go on a run to end the season, but it won’t be enough.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Chargers stats, matchup preview

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11, we sat down with Michael Peterson of Bolts From The Blue to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: Is Justin Herbert leading the NFL in pass attempts a good or bad thing for LA?

In past years, I’d say it’d be a bad thing because it more than likely means the Chargers have been playing from behind in just about every game. However, I think this year’s numbers are honestly due to offensive coordinator Greg Roman realizing he’s our best player and that his arm is how we maximize the chance of winning games. The run game hasn’t been bad by any means. They’re a top 10 group in the NFL. However, it’s been inconsistent enough behind the patchwork offensive that the coaching staff has decided the team will create leads via Herbert’s arm, then utilize the ground game to milk clocks and secure victories. It should also be noted that the Chargers’ quick game should be viewed as an extension of the ground game. Players like Keenan Allen and Ladd McConkey allow the team to gain six to eight yards nearly at will thanks to their shiftiness in tight quarters.

Question 2: Just how much does the offense miss bookend tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt?

There are not truly enough words to describe how important those two tackles are to the health and protection of Justin Herbert. He’s on pace to be the most pressured and hit quarterback this season, and he’s been on pace to be hit more than Andrew Luck was within their first six seasons of their career. That’s not good!
Slater’s loss was somewhat mitigated by Joe Alt switching over to the left side while swing tackle Trey Pipkins took over the right side, and it helps that the latter has a decent amount of starting experience there already. Now that both are gone, you have some of the worst-performing tackles in the league protecting Herbert’s blindside. Austin Deculus is the worst-graded tackle out of 38 qualifying players by PFF and Pipkins isn’t much better.

Question 3: Jacksonville is also in a bad spot at OT — can the Chargers defense take advantage?

Yes, I believe they can if Jesse Minter can call as good a game as he did against the Steelers this past Sunday night. The Chargers sacked Aaron Rodgers three times and truly made him uncomfortable all game long. The trio of Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu, and Odafe Oweh has been riding a beat of hot streak in recent games, and seeing someone like Walker Little at left tackle (36 pressures, eight sacks allowed) has got to be a tantalizing sight for them.
While the interior pass rush hasn’t been the greatest for the Chargers, guys like Teair Tart or Jamaree Caldwell could also have a day against right guard Patrick Mekari who has also been a bit leaky with pressures this season, although he’s let up just one sack, per PFF.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Sunday?

Rookie defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell is a name to watch alongside rookie safety R.J. Mickens. Both players have done well this year when given an increase in workload. With veteran safeties Tony Jefferson and Elijah Molden recently dealing with injuries, Mickens has come in and picked off two passes. Caldwell can be a bit hot-and-cold, but his splashes as both a run stopper and pass rusher have given the Chargers some juice when he shows up. These guys aren’t world-beaters just yet, but they have managed to come through enough times that I believe you do have to think twice before attacking either one with a matchup you like.

Question 5: Do you expect the Chargers to cover as 3-point favorites, and do you like any bets/props?

I do like the Chargers to win this game by at least three points. I have them winning 24-20 in my personal prediction. As far as prop bets go, I think you should hammer Justin Herbert’s passing props. Whatever the yardage is, bet the over. I think his passing TDs is also set at 1.5 and I believe he gets over that. The Jaguars have a better run defense than pass defense and I think this will be a game where we see a lot of passes from LA.

Thanks to Michael for taking the time to answer our questions!

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers are set to square off in Week 11 of the 2025 season.

With the Jags coming off a historically bad loss in Week 10, it’s a great op to respond to adversity.

“I’m sure there’s still some ticked off [feelings],” head coach Liam Coen said Friday. “It’s okay to be ticked off. But as long as the way that we approach practice and the way that we approach this game is rooted in, man, we can’t let that —never again … We can use it as motivation, a learning moment.”

AFC Playoff Picture: Jacksonville Jaguars’ win over Chargers is huge in wild card race

imagn-27606020.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars blew out the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, and while the AFC playoff picture remains pretty similar, it is going to have implications down the line. The Chargers entered the day as the five seed with the Jaguars seventh, and that is still the case, but the Jags are a half-game behind the Chargers. Now Jacksonville has wins over two different wild card contenders in the Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Thursday, the New England Patriots won to take over the top spot in the conference from the Indianapolis Colts who are on a bye. Then the Denver Broncos took the top spot from New England with their Sunday afternoon win over the Chiefs. The Pittsburgh Steelers on to maintain ownership of the AFC North for now.

The Buffalo Bills won to move past the Chargers into fifth place in the conference as the top wild card team.

A chunk of 5-5 teams are knocking on the door with the Houston Texans, kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens all on the outside looking in.

AFC playoff standings after Week 11

The Indianapolis Colts were on the bye and lost the top spot in the conference.

The Las Vegas Raiders play on Monday night but it won’t impact the standings.

1. Denver Broncos (9-2, 6-2 AFC)
2. New England Patriots (9-2, 5-2 AFC)
3. Indianapolis Colts (8-2, win over DEN)
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4)
5. Buffalo Bills (7-3)
6. Los Angeles Chargers (7-4)
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
8. Houston Texans (5-5, 4-2 AFC)
9. Kansas City Chiefs (5-5, 2-4 AFC, win over BAL)
10. Baltimore Ravens (5-5, 3-3 AFC, loss to KC)
11. Miami Dolphins (4-7)
12. Cincinnati Bengals (3-7)
13. Las Vegas Raiders (2-7)
14. New York Jets (2-8)
15. Cleveland Browns (2-8)
16. Tennessee Titans (1-9)

AFC South standings after Week 11

The Colts are on the bye this week and couldn’t be caught, but the Jaguars still control their own destiny. The Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars to stay within striking distance of the Jaguars.

1. Indianapolis Colts (8-2)
2. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
3. Houston Texans (5-5)
4. Tennessee Titans (1-9)

Jaguars Winners & Losers from Week 11: Everybody Wins As Jaguars Obliterate Chargers

gettyimages-2246492442.jpg

I officially give up on trying to figure this team out. In a good way.

Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars hit the ultimate rock bottom by giving up the franchise’s biggest blown lead to a bad division rival. How do they respond? By dogwalking the Los Angeles Chargers to the tune of a 35-6 blowout win, moving the Jags to 6-4 on the season.

The Jags are inconsistent, but Sunday showed just how good they can be when they play to their strengths. Both Liam Coen and Anthony Campanile looked like they heard my weekly gripes about how the team looks unprepared and prepared the ever-living hell out of the Jags for Sunday’s beatdown. Basically, from the first Jaguar drive, the Chargers had no answers.

There quite literally was no better way to respond from a devastating loss than thumping a team you were previously looking up at in the Wild Card standings. Victory Monday feels oh so good, especially when it comes to handing the Chargers another devastating loss at EverBank Stadium.

WINNERS

Liam Coen

For the first time all season, the Jaguars scored offensive touchdowns in all four quarters. Talk about a way to respond by a rookie head coach.

If you read this series weekly, I have bemoaned the lack of preparation and the overall dysfunction of the Jags in the first year under Coen. On Sunday, the team was as prepared as ever.

The Jags committed just one penalty all day, resulting in just five yards for the Chargers. For a team that averages about 8.5 penalties per game, this was such a refreshing outing by both sides of the ball, especially considering there were backups playing all over the field.

Outside of the one bad pick by Trevor Lawrence and whatever that drive after the pick was, Coen called a masterful game and took advantage of the team’s strengths. Jacksonville can deploy a stable of running backs and did so against the Chargers, running the ball to the tune of a noisy 192 yards. Even Lawrence got in on the running action, notching a rushing score which put him third in the NFL in total quarterback rushing touchdowns.

Sunday’s game was the first such game since 2009, and the eighth in team history, where the Jags had four rushing scores. Coen saw his matchup and took advantage. With how well the Jags ran the ball and played offense overall, it should be noted that the team didn’t punt a single time.

I’ve said the Jags have bottomed out multiple times this season. Maybe it took really, truly bottoming out last week to get back to the basics and reinvigorate this team and its coaches.

Coen had maybe his best game as a head coach on Sunday. Good for him.

“We play better pissed off.”

Anthony Campanile

Another coach who rose to the challenge mightily was first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.

This defense sucked in recent weeks. The turnovers weren’t coming and the sacks were coming even less. That all changed Sunday.

Jacksonville’s defense recorded three sacks – more on that below – and grabbed a pick. The team’s six total quarterback hits, and B.J. Green’s bodybagging of Justin Herbert, knocked the Chargers’ franchise quarterback out of the game. All day long this defense dominated a potent Chargers offense to the point where, outside of Keenan Allen, it looked like the Chargers weren’t even rolling out a full 11 players.

The Chargers had just 135 yards and six points. The six total points LA scored was its lowest output thus far and the fewest points allowed by the Jaguar defense all season.

As I said about Coen, coach Camp also found a way to get back to the basics and regroup his unit. He did so against a solid team at that. Hats off.

Jaguars held the Chargers to 135 yards, the second-fewest they have allowed in the last 15 years (Panthers, 124 in 2023) and the fifth-fewest in franchise history.

— Michael DiRocco (@ESPNdirocco) November 16, 2025

Defensive Line Play

I have had some critical words for Josh Hines-Allen and crew this season. Much of it was maybe deserved. Maybe some of it wasn’t. All that was out the window Sunday when the Jaguars returned to their Sacksonville roots and dominated along the defensive front.

The Chargers have a bottom-tier offensive line as it is, and Jacksonville actually took advantage of it. The Chargers were forced to swap left tackles late, but at that point, it didn’t even come close to mattering.

Travon Wallker had half a sack. Danny Striggow of all people had half a sack. Arik Armstead had two TFLs and made an impact all day. Most importantly, the pressure-getter himself, Hines-Allen, recorded a full sack to break the team’s all-time sack record. What a return to greatness moment for the Jacksonville defensive line.

Outside of just sacks, the Chargers were only able to run the ball for 42 yards. Also, much of the inability for LA to throw the ball was due to pressure being in Herbert’s face all afternoon.

Someone must have lit a serious fire under the butts of the guys along the defensive front and boy did it work. I have been critical of this group greatly. But for one week, I can only give much due praise.

— Nash Henry (@NashJagsNats22) November 16, 2025

The Secondary

Playing a decent bit of backups, the Jaguar secondary was excellent all game.

Despite playing without Travis Hunter, Jourdan Lewis and Eric Murray, plus Greg Newsome going down with an injury, it didn’t ever feel like the Jags were struggling to protect against the pass. The secondary got some help from the defensive front, but I think you can accurately say the backend held its own regardless.

Buster Brown played well. Andrew Wingard didn’t blow any major assignments. Antonio Johnson even got a pick. Christian Braswell played big minutes. Only four Chargers recorded catches, with the leading receiver, future Hall of Famer Keenan Allen, recording 53 yards. What Jaguar fan or coach wouldn’t take that?

The defensive coaches came to the table with an excellent gameplan and the players executed. Shoutout a solid day from a secondary that many probably didn’t expect much at all from.

Bhayshul Tuten

Tank who?

Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten has been a revelation for Jacksonville, running about as hard as any rook has ever run. Against the Chargers, it looked like Tuten was going against high schoolers as he rumbled and romped for a career-high 74 yards.

He almost broke a couple for big gains but did score his third touchdown of the year before going down with a late injury. No need to speculate, but the hope is he was held out because the game was already out of hand.

Tuten’s 74 yards were part of a 192-yard day that saw Jacksonville run through the heart of the Chargers’ defense at every turn. He and Travis Etienne make a formidable 1-2 punch, one the Chargers had zero answer for.

The Connection Between Jakobi Meyers and Trevor Lawrence

There is no need to get into the “Did Trevor Lawrence Play Well Today” debate. We do that too often.

One aspect Lawrence certainly did well was finding Jakobi Meyers. The newly acquired receiver led the team led the Jags for the second straight week with five catches for 64 yards. Meyers has eight catches on nine for 105 yards in his two games in a Jacksonville uniform.

The skill players on offense have been decimated with injuries, thus the need to get a sure-handed receiver like Meyers. So far, so good in that department. Meyers had an even better day when considering Lawrence went 3-7 when targeting usual No. 1 option Parker Washington.

The Offensive Line

There wouldn’t have been the big day for the running backs if it weren’t for the day the offensive line had.

The offensive line, which got Ezra Cleveland back, pushed the Chargers all over the field and was the catalyst for the huge running game. Look at how they moved the defensive line for Lawrence’s rushing score.

Speaking of Lawrence, the offensive line kept his jersey clean. That unit didn’t allow a sack and gave up just two quarterback hits. They did so without Anton Harrison.

Last week, the unit blew chunks. This week, the unit rose to the occasion and got the job done.

LOSERS
There Is No Telling What Happens Next Week

Keen observers of this article have noticed I keep referencing last week. Because it is just that: One week ago, the Jags played their worst half of football maybe ever. Against Davis Mills, no less.

Then one week later, the team goes around and gets Herbert benched. There is just no telling what this team might do next week.

That type of rollercoaster ride is frustrating as all hell, but it might just be what the team is going to be in Year One under Coen. Maybe consistency is going to come with time but it sure would be nice to come right about now.

The team started the year with a lopsided win, then a loss to a backup quarterback. They rattled off three straight solid victories before two lopsided losses, an overtime win against a bad team and then the Texans loss. All to then beat the Chargers by 29. All you can really do is just laugh and move along.

The Jags have two easily winnable next on the schedule. How nice would it be if they… Now bear with me… Just went out and won them convincingly?

The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) will travel west to face the Arizona Cardinals (3-7) at 4:05 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 23, at State Farm Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 2.5-point favorites and the total is set at 47.5 points.

Arizona is coming off its seventh loss in eight games, while Jacksonville is fresh off a convincing bounce-back win. Josh Hines-Allen finally broke the franchise’s all-time sack record on Sunday.

“I don’t think it was ever a chase thing,” said the 56-sack man postgame. “It was just for me, just playing football and doing what I needed to do. I’m ready to go out, watch this film. Who are we playing next week? Arizona. Good, young team, I think. Go out there and play as fast as I can as hard as I can and play the same game plan we did today.”

The Jaguars registered a season-high 50% pressure rate against the Chargers in Week 11, per Next Gen Stats. UDFA rookies B.J. Green II and Danny Striggow were a big part of that. Hopefully, the pass rush and the rest of the team can keep their momentum.

Jaguars Destroy Chargers at Home, Move to 6-4 on the Season

gettyimages-2247008955.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars quieted the noise in a big way on Sunday, moving to 6-4 on the year with a 35-6, four-quarter destruction of the Los Angeles Chargers at Everbank Stadium. In LA’s first visit back to Jacksonville since the 2022 Wild Card comeback matchup, the ghosts of years’ past continue to haunt the Bolts. With Sunday’s win, the Jaguars still control their own playoff destiny, currently holding the seventh (Wild Card) playoff spot, were the postseason to begin today.

Here’s everything you need to know from Jacksonville’s Week 11 home victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

  • WR Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle)
  • OL Anton Harrison (knee/ankle)
  • TE Hunter Long (hip/knee)
  • DL Emmanuel Ogbah (healthy scratch)
  • RB Cody Schrader (healthy scratch)

Lewis and Thomas Jr were inactive for a second consecutive game. DL Emmanuel Ogbah was labeled as a healthy scratch for the first time in 2025. Notably, Ogbah has a half sack and 12 tackles in nine games, and ranks 120th among 124 EDGE players with a 4.3% Pass-Rush Win rate via Pro Football Focus (PFF). Additionally, TE Brenton Strange was not activated from IR prior to Sunday’s matchup, after the team opened his 21-Day Practice Window on Wednesday.

For the Chargers, S Tony Jefferson, OLB Kyle Kennard, OT Bobby Hart, OL Foster Sarell, WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, TE Will Dissly, and DT Naquan Jones were all inactive. This is in addition to running backs Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton, who are both on Injured Reserve, among others.

The following Jacksonville players left Sunday’s game due to injury:

  • CB Greg Newsome (ankle)
  • DE Travon Walker (knee) – returned in the third quarter
  • RB Bhayshul Tuten (ankle)

1st Quarter

The Jacksonville defense began the day with a quick three-and-out, courtesy of a Travon Walker forced intentional grounding on first down. However, after the punt, the Jacksonville offense put together a promising 10-play, 47-yard drive before turning the ball over on downs. Instead of attempting the 58-yard field goal attempt – well inside Cam Little’s range, the offense attempted to convert the fourth and three in the air. The ball fell incomplete, with Lawrence hitching at his first read, Parker Washington, who seemed open on the play.

Taking over near midfield, the Jacksonville defense held, forcing a 41-yard field goal after giving up two early first downs. (Jaguars 0, Chargers 3)

The Jacksonville offense picked up on the following drive, answering with a 6-play, 74-yard Bhayshul Tuten touchdown drive, buoyed by a 31-yard defensive pass interference penalty on the Chargers to move Jacksonville into the redzone. Tuten took the final three rushes of the drive for 21 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown to take the early lead. (Jaguars 7, Chargers 3)

2nd Quarter

The Jacksonville defense continued their early dominance with another three-and-out, featuring a Travon Walker, Danny Striggow shared sack on first down to force the punt. However, Lawrence surrendered his first turnover of the matchup on the following play, throwing an interception late and inside, intended for WR Tim Patrick.

The defense, again held to a field goal, following a third down Josh Hines-Allen sack, securing his franchise record 56th career sack, passing DE Tony Brakens (55.0 sacks). (Jaguars 7, Chargers 6)

Following the field goal, Jacksonville continued to dominate via the ground game, opening the drive with a 15-yard Tuten rush, followed by a 16-yard, beautifully-designed delayed tight end leak out by Johnny Mundt. Travis Etienne wrapped up the drive with a Wildcat direct snap touchdown rush from the two-yard line. (Jaguars 14, Chargers 6)

After driving into Jacksonville territory, Chargers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh decided to go for it on fourth-and-seven, with 34 seconds remaining in the half. However, a terrible penalty on BJ Green for Roughing the Passer resulted in offsetting penalties, allowing Harbaugh to change his mind with his franchise quarterback on the sideline being checked on by the trainers.

Jacksonville then ran out the remainder of the 5:56 in the third quarter, working their run game body punches, at one point rushing on five straight snaps to end the quarter.

4th Quarter

As the offensive line and tight end group continued to move the LA front at will, Jacksonville wrapped up a 16-play, 76-yard, 9:18 drive featuring 10 rushes and capped by a play action Tim Patrick pop pass touchdown. (Jaguars 28, Chargers 6)

Post-game notables:

1. The team emphatically answered this week’s questions

A dominant home win took place on Sunday, following a week of significant questions being asked about this Jacksonville team, after surrendering a 19-point fourth quarter lead to the Houston Texans. Liam Coen and Anthony Campanile’s units showed up like a team aware of what was at stake. Despite WR Brian Thomas Jr, TE Brenton Strange and Hunter Long, CB Jourdan Lewis, and RT Anton Harrison all being held out with injuries this week, the team looked up to the challenge early in this one. Not only was the team mentally locked in, but they were disciplined. In their cleanest game of the season, Jacksonville had just one accepted penalty for five yards on Sunday.

2. Offensive line came to play

The Jaguars, while facing the NFL’s No. 5 sacking defense without RT Anton Harrison, surrendered a total of zero sacks to the Chargers. Additionally, they were simply dominant on the ground, rushing for 192 yards on 47 carries (4.1 yards per rush) for four touchdowns. You will win most games in the NFL with a performance like that, keeping that pass rush off balance.

3. Defense Dominant

Even after losing CB Greg Newsome and DE Travon Walker (temporarily), the defense continued their full game dominance with three three-and-outs, two turnovers on downs, an interception, and three sacks on the day. Justin Herbert had one of the worst games of his career, going 10-18 for 81 yards (4.5 YPA) and an interception with two sacks for -18 yards and a 44.0 passer rating. Additionally, Herbert was the Chargers’ leading rusher with just 21 yards on the ground, as Campanile’s defense held LA to 2.6 yards per rush (42 yards on 16 carries).

Sacks, Hits, and Havoc: Is Another Big Pass Rush Week on the Way?

gettyimages-2245874707.jpg

In week 12, the Jacksonville Jaguars will again face one of their most fearsome opponents of the 2025 season: the savvy veteran, backup quarterback.

Following a week five injury to starting quarterback Kyler Murray, which eventually landed him on IR, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over the starting role to the tune of a 66.7% completion rate, 11 touchdowns and just three turnovers in a five-game stretch. Meanwhile, the Jaguars are coming off a dominant showing up front, sacking Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert three times while pressuring him on half of his 25 dropbacks.

With Herbert’s propensity to hold the ball for longer periods, in search of a downfield explosive play, the Jaguars’ front seven capitalized on those opportunities, with 14 of their 21 week 11 pressures coming more than 3 seconds from the snap.

Throughout the year, the defense has leaned into sending extra blitzers on a more frequent basis due to their recent struggles to get the quarterback down.

Campanile is sending extra rushers more and more as the season progresses. makes sense since the four man rush isn't getting home

chart via @fball_insights pic.twitter.com/P4yPFe36uc

— Gus Logue (@gus_logue) November 14, 2025

The blitz has been fruitful for the Jaguars in generating pressure on opposing quarterbacks, as they currently rank fourth in the NFL in average time to pressure when blitzing (2.28 seconds). However, they’re 11th in the league when rushing just the four players (2.75 seconds).

When facing veteran quarterbacks who consistently get the ball out quickly (2.3-2.7 seconds), the team has regularly struggled. Liam Coen touched on this before the team’s week 10 matchup.

“Yeah, the flat-out bottom line is we’ve got to go affect the quarterback better. And whether that’s with scheme or with people, we’ve got to affect. Now look, I’ll say this out of all the attempts the other day, I think there was like 88 percent—I don’t know what crazy percentage of the time the ball was coming out at about two point something [seconds]. They were running a ton of quick option routes, zone coverage, just kind of pick and dink, dink, dink, dink, dink. So, it does become hard to ultimately get to the quarterback when it’s like almost quick game, but it’s not. It’s that in-between of drop back pass that I think Vegas did a pretty good job of attacking us that way.

Jacksonville’s defensive average time to throw of 2.56 seconds (sixth) feels dominant in comparison to Brissett’s average time to throw (which has slowly improved over the past two weeks):

  • Week 6 (at Colts): 3.29 seconds
  • Week 7 (vs Packers): 2.91 seconds
  • Week 9 (at Cowboys): 3.13 seconds
  • Week 10 (at Seahawks): 2.83 seconds
  • Week 11 (vs 49ers): 2.73 seconds

In week 11, Brissett notably had his best average time to throw of the 2025 season, at 2.73 seconds. Despite a whopping 57 dropbacks, Arizona tied for a season-low with four quarterback hits and no sacks surrendered in the matchup. They might think it wise to continue this trend of getting the ball out quickly when facing a Jacksonville defense that has shown significant struggles in defending the quick game.

#Jaguars are getting killed in the quick game.

– 21.6 Pass Att/ Game (2nd Most)
– 135.9 Pass Yards/ Game (2nd Most)

— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) November 12, 2025

Brissett has a 90.4 passer rating, 63.7 completion rate, -5.2 EPA, 11 sacks surrendered, and a 3.00-second time to throw when facing four rushers. However, against the blitz, his play rises to a 126.8 passer rating, 77.8 completion rate, +10.5 EPA, 7 sacks surrendered, and a 2.86-second time to throw.

Like last week, this game may be shaping up to favor another multi-sack game for Jacksonville if they can find a way to get home with four in less than three seconds. Unless Arizona comes in with a much faster passing operation for the week, this may likely determine the game. Can Jacksonville get home with just four? Will defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile trust them early on to win without throwing extra guys into the mix? Can the back end hold on long enough to force Brissett to become uncomfortable in the pocket? We will find out on Sunday.

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Where does Josh Hines-Allen rank among all-time Jaguars?

gettyimages-2244692671.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And where does Josh Hines-Allen rank among the team’s all-time greats?

Hines-Allen is the most accomplished pass rusher in franchise history. His sack against Justin Herbert on Sunday was the 56th of his career, passing Tony Bracken’s total of 55 for the most by a Jaguar.

“I don’t think it was ever a chase thing,” he said after the game. “It was just, for me, just playing football and doing what I needed to do. I’m ready to go out, watch this film. Who are we playing next week?”

The New Jersey native also ranks first in tackles for loss (69), first in quarterback hits (137), third in forced fumbles (10), and 17th in combined tackles (323) in franchise history. Sunday was his 100th regular season game, making him just the 30th Jaguar to reach that mark.

Jacksonville’s ring of honor, The Pride of the Jaguars, only has four players in it: Tony Boselli, Mark Brunell, Fred Taylor, and Jimmy Smith. Is Hines-Allen worthy of joining that group?

Jaguars shoot back up NFL power rankings entering Week 12

gettyimages-2247009306.jpg

As we’ve seen firsthand over the past 10 days, the NFL is a week-to-week league.

The Jaguars experienced the lowest of lows in Week 10 when Davis Mills and the rival Texans scored 26 fourth quarter points to complete a historic comeback. Then the script was flipped on Sunday when Jacksonville won by 29 points in a game where Josh Hines-Allen became the franchise sack leader.

“Ultimately, we now owe it to each other to play that way for the rest of the year as much as possible,” head coach Liam Coen said after the Week 11 drubbing. “That’s got to be our mindset as a team, is like, we owe it to each other now, to put that on tape as much as possible for the remainder of the season and let the results be what they may.”

As Week 12 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

Pro Football Talk: 11 (last week: 17)

From Mike Florio:

Will their latest signature win have staying power?

The Ringer: 13 (18)

From Diante Lee:

The only thing Jacksonville’s been able to bank on this season is its run game, and sure enough, that’s what led the way in Sunday’s dominant win over the Chargers. Travis Etienne Jr. and Bhayshul Tuten (lightning … and more lightning) combined to rush for 147 yards and three scores. When that duo is playing well, you can see how the Jaguars might be a team that could win a playoff game.

I don’t have the same optimism about much else. There’s no telling if the passing game or defense will support the run game each week, and that makes it hard to trust the Jags. I’ll just watch from a safe distance.

CBS Sports: 13 (19)

From Pete Prisco:

Coach Liam Coen deserves a lot of credit for leading his team to a blowout of the Chargers after the devastating loss to the Texans. This team would be in the playoffs if they started right now.

USA Today: 14 (14)

From Nate Davis:

As he muddles threw his worst passing season since he was a rookie, it’s interesting to note the Jags are using QB Trevor Lawrence as a runner − nearly five rushes per game − more than at any point in his five-year career. Maybe he and DE Josh Hines-Allen can really catch fire while facing three sub-.500 opponents over the next four weeks.

The Athletic: 14 (19)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

A suggestion: Feed Bhayshul Tuten

The rookie had a career-high 15 carries Sunday and turned them into a career-best 74 yards. He suffered an ankle injury that’s worth monitoring because he gave the Jaguars run game some pop, powering what turned into a season-high 35 points for Jacksonville.

Fox Sports: 14 (19)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

Two weeks ago, they needed OT to beat the Raiders. Last week, they blew a 19-point, fourth-quarter lead to the Texans. This week … they thoroughly beat down the Chargers? Where did that come from?

Bleacher Report: 15 (17)

From Gary Davenport:

Will someone please explain the Jacksonville Jaguars to me.

They destroyed a good Chargers team. They outgained the Bolts by 300 yards, allowed just 135 yards of offense and held Justin Herbert under 100 passing yards. Considering the quality of the opponent, it was one of the best single-game efforts we have seen from an NFL team in 2025.

However, this is also a Jaguars team that got stomped by the Rams not that long ago and needed overtime (and a Geno Smith vapor-lock) to get past a poor Raiders team in Las Vegas.

Jacksonville’s next two games are on the road and look easier. If Trevor Lawrence and Co. want to be taken seriously in the AFC, they have to win the games they should—and be 8-4 when they welcome the Colts on December 7.

Yahoo Sports: 15 (19)

From Frank Schwab:

Blowing that game to the Texans in Week 10 could be damaging. Imagine if the Jaguars were just a game behind the Colts now. As is, the emphatic win over the Chargers puts the Jaguars right back in the race. And the tiebreaker over the Chiefs might loom large by the end of the season.

NFL.com: 16 (18)

From Eric Edholm:

After blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead at Houston, the Jaguars couldn’t afford a loss Sunday, and they delivered one of their best all-around showings of the season. That it came with several key players missing — including their top three cornerbacks and three key pass catchers — made it all the more impressive. Trevor Lawrence wasn’t perfect, but he was effective outside of a poor throw on his lone interception. The Jags will take more performances like this from Lawrence, especially when the run game is cooking like it was Sunday (192 yards). They should be receiving reinforcements from injured players returning, with two games to prepare before the first of two big showdowns against the Colts in Week 14.

Sports Illustrated: 16 (20)

From Conor Orr:

Being a Jaguars punter can be a yeoman-like grind. But finally, for the first time in his professional life, Logan Cooke wasn’t used a single time. You should still donate to his charity anyway.

ESPN: 17 (17)

From Mike DiRocco:

Who’s under the most pressure: Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr .

His early-season struggles (five drops, several instances of avoiding contact) lost him the WR1 role to Travis Hunter. Now that Hunter is out for the season after right knee surgery, the Jaguars need Thomas to be the playmaker he was as a rookie, when he finished third in the NFL with 1,282 receiving yards. Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington can work the middle of the field and intermediate routes, but Thomas has to be a downfield threat again.

The Jaguars’ average rank this week is 14.7, up from 18.0 last week.
