Jaguars are perfectly average in NFL power rankings entering Week 10

gettyimages-2245069598.jpg

As Week 10 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

Pro Football Talk: 13 (last week: 13)

From Mike Florio:

They find ways to win even when it seems like they’re trying to lose.

USA Today: 13 (14)

From Nate Davis:

They have five more road games this season, three in domes and one in Denver. We want to see K Cam Little get a field-goal shot beyond 70 yards. Though maybe given Tuesday’s acquisition of WR Jakobi Meyers, the Jags can get Little a little closer …

CBS Sports: 14 (13)

From Pete Prisco:

Injuries are starting to be a big problem for this team, especially on offense. Somehow, if the playoffs started today, they would be in the party.

NFL.com: 15 (15)

From Eric Edholm:

The Jags needed a record-breaking 68-yard field goal to get their first points of the game 30 minutes in, needed another long field goal near the end of regulation and relied on a failed two-point try in overtime by the Raiders to survive in Vegas. In the absence of Travis Hunter and Brenton Strange , the passing game had plenty of clunky moments, including a bad end-zone interception by Trevor Lawrence . He ran for two scores, including the eventual winner in overtime, and Travis Etienne was a steady force, especially late, but this was not a performance to rally the troops behind. Ending a two-game losing streak was most important; still, the Jaguars looked a bit hiccup-y after their Week 8 bye.

The Athletic: 15 (15)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

Midseason grade: B-

The Jags don’t rank in the top half of the NFL in either offensive or defensive EPA per play. They needed a failed two-point attempt in overtime to beat a bad Raiders team. But the vibes do feel better in Jacksonville with Liam Coen in charge.

ESPN: 15 (15)

From Mike DiRocco:

Most important game remaining: Week 10 at the Texans

The Jaguars could bury the Texans in the division with a victory in Houston. That would give Jacksonville a four-game lead — including the tiebreaker — over the Texans and essentially make the AFC South a two-team race with Indianapolis. The Jaguars still have two games remaining against the Colts (7-2) and the Titans (1-8).

Bleacher Report: 16 (16)

From Maurice Moton:

In Week 9, Trevor Lawrence played with an illness, didn’t have one of his top receivers in Travis Hunter, and lost a couple of his wideouts to injuries during the game. Yet he still made an impact with two rushing scores, the second coming in overtime to give Jacksonville a 30-23 lead.

Since their 31-27 Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jaguars have found ways to grind out victories in close games. They’ve beaten the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders by five or fewer points.

Jacksonville deserves more respect in the power rankings.

Fox Sports: 17 (14)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

Considering how bad Geno Smith and the Raiders have been, I wouldn’t be bragging too much about an overtime win that only happened because the Raiders went for two (and failed) with 16 seconds left.

The Ringer: 17 (19)

From Diante Lee:

A Jaguars offense that had been struggling because of Trevor Lawrence’s inaccurate passing and numerous drops was able to march up and down the field against the Raiders on Sunday. The Jags moved the ball efficiently after a rocky start and scored on each of their possessions in the second half.

That sort of offensive performance should make us feel better about this team, but Jacksonville’s defense decided to lay an egg against one of the league’s worst offenses. Now, I’m back where I almost always am with the Jags, totally unable to trust this team from one week to the next.

Sports Illustrated: 18 (20)

From Conor Orr:

While we don’t know exactly what Trevor Lawrence was dealing with Sunday, head coach Liam Cohen called him “ghost like” in color, and Lawrence’s wife alluded to a serious illness on Instagram. We can have a lot of takes on how Jacksonville’s offense hasn’t embodied quite what we hoped. But we cannot deny this team has a grit—defensively, in the run game and via the QB position—that we weren’t as in tune with a year ago.

Yahoo Sports: 19 (16)

From Frank Schwab:

It’s hard to be impressed by the Jaguars after they held on for dear life to beat the Raiders. Will the Jaguars be trade buyers? They could talk themselves into it at 5-3, but this team is not as good as its record.

Jaguars Rookie Report: Travis Hunter placed on IR ahead of Week 9

gettyimages-2245070205.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars stole a thriller on the road in Vegas on Sunday as they narrowly came away with a 30-29 victory to bring their record to 5-3 on the season. It was a wild game full of massive swings of momentum and for the Jags to figure out a way to win that one with the amount of injuries they were dealing with, as well as the reported illness of their quarterback, it showed a lot of grit that the fan base was hoping to see after dropping two consecutive games before the bye.

While a game like that typically requires the stars and veterans to step up, the rookies had some moments as well. Let’s break down their impact in the Week 9 Jaguars Rookie Report.

Travis Hunter

The news that Travis Hunter was being placed on IR due to a non-contact knee injury during practice last Thursday left the Jacksonville fanbase holding their breath in unison. Luckily, early reports are that it is not expected to be a long term injury and the expectation is that Hunter could be back by as early as Week 13.

Travis Hunter is not expected to be out long-term for the #Jaguars, though he is out at least 3 more games. He'll be back to contribute in the pass game, as well. https://t.co/niqwp7VhGk

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 4, 2025

Hunter had just started to look more and more comfortable on both sides of the ball and there were hints that his usage was about to ramp up, so the timing of the injury is unfortunate to say the least. However, with the recent acquisition of Jakobi Meyers, the Jaguars can now afford to have some patience in terms of getting Hunter up to that expectation of a full-time role at corner and receiver.

Bhayshul Tuten

Bhayshul Tuten matched his season high in touches on Sunday with 10 as he played a key role in Jacksonville’s thrilling OT victory. Tuten carried the ball nine times for 29 yards and a TD on the day with his two best runs coming in the clutch during Jacksonville’s overtime touchdown drive. He had an eleven yard carry and a 7 yard carry on back to back plays which put the Jaguars on the Vegas 4-yard line. This would help set up Trevor Lawrence’s game-winning TD run just a couple of plays later.

A game of inches.#JAXvsLV on FOXpic.twitter.com/OpqN96JABl

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) November 3, 2025

It’s very telling of how highly the coaching staff thinks of Tuten just to even have him in the game in such a pivotal drive, let alone to give him touches. His role and impact continue to increase as the season progresses.

Jack Kiser

Linebacker Jack Kiser continues to be a core special teamer for the Jaguars as he registered two tackles on kick coverage on Sunday. Unfortunately both were after good returns from Raheem Mostert, including a 54-yarder that set up a field goal drive for Las Vegas. The unit will need to clean up the kickoff coverage issues going forward and Kiser will have to be a big part of that.

Rayuan Lane

Along the same vein as Kiser, Rayuan Lane was unable to make much of a contribution as a special teamer. However, his impact has mostly been felt on the punt unit this season but Jacksonville punted just twice in the game with one resulting in a fair catch and the other going out of bounds. Lane did register six defensive snaps as well but didn’t register a statistic on the night.

Jonah Monheim

Rookie center Jonah Monheim might be just a depth piece to the Jacksonville offensive line right now but he did contribute to a historic moment in NFL history on Sunday. Jags kicker Cam Little set the NFL record for distance on a field goal at 68 yards and Monheim is on that protection unit.

CAM LITTLE JUST KICKED THE LONGEST FG IN NFL HISTORY! 68 YARDS! pic.twitter.com/WGZb6O9xhX

— NFL (@NFL) November 2, 2025

Considering the distance on the kick, the line needed to prevent any gaps so that Little could drive the ball as far as he could, which means a lower trajectory than most kicks. There is a heightened risk of a block in those long distance situations so Monheim and the rest of the unit holding up the way it did was key.

LeQuint Allen

Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. continues to play a limited role in the Jacksonville offense, but his impact is still felt. Allen logged 22 offensive snaps with most of them being for pass protection purposes. He helped keep Trevor Lawrence clean as he was sacked just once in the entire game and Allen wasn’t even in the backfield on that one. Allen also had two touches on the day with his lone carry going for 10 yards as he converted a third and five. As things stand right now, the running back room might be the Jags’ best unit at the halfway point of the season and LeQuint Allen Jr. is a big part of that.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans stats, matchup preview

imagn-24912796.jpg

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to face the Houston Texans in Week 10, we sat down with Scott Barzilla of Battle Red Blog to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: C.J. Stroud’s status is up in the air after he suffered a concussion last week. Assuming he doesn’t play against Jacksonville, what’s your confidence level in Davis Mills to keep the ship afloat?

I think he can play relatively turnover-free football but I have little confidence in his ability to move the ball. He has the same problems with accuracy he has always had. Jags fans will probably remember those fondly.

Question 2: The Texans are scoring far more points than when we last saw them in Week 3. Why is that?

The Texans are probably an average offense. They play well against bad defenses and struggle against good offenses. They have been getting the rookies more involved, so that has opened the offense more. They are playing better than week three certainly.

Question 3: Houston is now 3-5 after starting the season 0-3. Obviously, Stroud’s injury clouds the near future, but are Texans fans still optimistic about a potential playoff push?

The short answer is no. I think a victory this past week would have been a huge feather in their cap. They would need to go 7-2 the rest of the way to get to 10 wins. I could see them winning the next two, but even then their last seven games will be brutal.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Sunday?

If he is healthy, Woody Marks is the most dynamic player on offense and one reason they are better than in week three. Jaylin Noel is also more active on offense. On defense, Denico Autry has blocked two field goal attempts in the last three weeks.

Question 5: Do you expect the Texans to cover as 1.5-point favorites, and do you like any bets/props for the game?

I’m answering this question early in the week. If Stroud plays the Texans win. If he doesn’t play the Jaguars win. In terms of prop bets, I’d bet the house on the under. The Texans have hit the under in six out of eight games including week three.

Thanks to Scott for taking the time to answer our questions!

Jaguars vs Texans key matchups: new receiver faces stern debut test

imagn-27148044.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to face the Houston Texans this Sunday. Here are three key battles to keep an eye on in Week 10:

Jakobi Meyers vs Jalen Pitre

TRADE: Raiders trade WR Jakobi Meyers to Jaguars in exchange for a 4th and 6th-round pick. (via @rapsheet, @tompelissero) pic.twitter.com/E6Cpmb25aQ

— NFL (@NFL) November 4, 2025

Let’s dive straight in with the newest addition to the Jaguars. With injury wiping out a chunk of the receiver room, James Gladstone made a move before the trade deadline, sending the Las Vegas Raiders a 4th and 6th round selection in next year’s draft for Jakobi Meyers. In the final season of a 3-year, $33m deal, Meyers requested a trade back in August when negotiations weren’t going anywhere. Despite the impasse, he led the Raiders in receptions through the first nine weeks of the season, even though he hasn’t scored a touchdown or accumulated the yards he was accustomed to whilst with the New England Patriots.

Meyers won’t have time to ease himself into the Jaguars playbook. With Travis Hunter on IR, Braun Thomas missing practice with an ankle injury sustained against the Raiders last week and Dyami Brown still working his way back from a concussion, he’ll need to contribute from the slot immediately. That matches him up with Jalen Pitre, one of the best slot corners in the NFL this season. On course for the best season of his career, Pitre already has three interceptions in 2025 and has been one of the leaders of a secondary up there with the best in the NFL. And, worryingly for the Jags, he’s picking up pace too, with 24 of his 46 tackles coming in the last three games.

Pitre missed Wednesday’s practice recovering from a concussion sustained in the Texans’ game against the Denver Broncos, but according to all reports he will be suiting up on Sunday. Meyers needs to hit the ground running to ensure Trevor Lawrence has options when he drops back to pass.

Davis Mills vs Josh Hines-Allen

'I'm ready, go out there and lead the guys' #Texans quarterback Davis Mills who will start against #Jaguars @KPRC2 pic.twitter.com/kBoGnQsL6A

— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) November 5, 2025

Whilst Pitre looks set to recover from his concussion, quarterback CJ Stroud will not – confirmed as out for the game this coming weekend. That means the Texans will turn to Davis Mills to lead the offense whilst their franchise QB recovers.

Mills is the epitome of a game-managing quarterback, an ideal backup that has limited capacity to win a game but won’t often be the reason why you lose one. Despite falling to a last second field goal on Sunday Mills was serviceable, going 17/30 for 137 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. His presence under center won’t strike fear into the Jaguars’ secondary, but having a guy with 6,300 passing yards under his belt on standby is far from the worst case scenario Houston could be facing right now.

I was going to match Mills up with Devin Lloyd who is set to return from injury this week and has tormented quarterbacks when dropping back into coverage. But Mills’ real weakness is his inability to escape pressure; a lack of mobility hamstrung him as a starter in the 2021 and 2022 seasons where he took a whopping SIXTY TWO sacks, costing his team 450 yards. He showed his vulnerability in the pocket again on Sunday as the Broncos got to him twice. Josh Hines-Allen should be licking his lips at the opportunity ahead of him this weekend; if he can get the better of rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery he’ll be padding his stats in this one.

Liam Coen vs DeMeco Ryans

“You can see Liam’s imprint on the offense. You can see how he’s helped Trevor.” pic.twitter.com/mF7sAfgd0A

— Shaun Bijani (@ShaunBijani) November 5, 2025

This is the first time this season I’ve gone head coach on head coach, but these two leaders will likely be facing off against each other for a long time and the battle intrigues me. On one sideline you’ve got the offensive-minded Liam Coen, who orchestrated explosive passing attacks wherever he’s been. On the other sideline DeMeco Ryans, a former standout linebacker who has built a mean defense in his own image in Houston.

I think it’s fair to say that Ryans has already proven himself to be an astute head coach in his young career to date. The Texans struggled to find a leader after moving on from Bill O’Brien, firing two HC’s both one year into their tenures. Two AFC South titles in his first two years at the helm validates the hire. Coen, meanwhile, has only just stepped foot on his own head coaching path. And whilst it’s far too early to determine if he was the right choice for the Jaguars, there are promising signs and a healthier feel around the franchise.

Coen got the better of Ryans when these two teams met back in Week 3, a third loss in a row to start the season for Houston. But the Texans have improved since then, winning three of their next five games. Conversely, the Jaguars started off hot before dropping a couple of games before last week’s nail biting win in Las Vegas. With both teams battling to keep pace with the Indianapolis Colts at the top of the division, this game could prove crucial come the playoffs.

Jaguars vs Texans: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 10

gettyimages-1245925614.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 10’s matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.

We also have a new Jaguar to discuss.

For those unfamiliar this is Jakobi Meyers ⬇️

pic.twitter.com/Iwce2yLw7o

— Jamal St. Cyr (@JStCyrTV) November 4, 2025

Question 1: What are your initial thoughts on the Jakobi Meyers trade, and what are your rest-of-season expectations for him?

Dillon Appleman: My initial thoughts were that he’s an immediate floor raiser for the offense. It’s no secret that Jacksonville receivers have had trouble with drops this season and Meyers just doesn’t drop balls. His reliability on the intermediate, middle of the field stuff is only going to be a breath of fresh air, and his presence might even unclog some of the windows for Brian Thomas Jr., who is still trying to overcome a tough start to his sophomore season.

Travis Holmes: I thought the acquisition of Meyers was a good fit of need, lower cost, and fit for a guy who does many of the things that the current group of Jacksonville receivers struggle with (contested catches, drops, accepting contact on routes into the middle of the field, and being a dominant blocker). While he will likely need a few weeks to immerse himself in the playbook and the offense, I expect something to the tune of 400 yards and 3+ touchdowns over the final six games of the season.

Gus Logue: I think the trade was not great value, yet a necessary move. The Jaguars’ pass-catching core is riddled with injuries and cursed with drops. There’s a decent chance of Meyers becoming the most trusted target of Trevor Lawrence’s pro career, and I expect to see an instant connection on Sunday. Meyers and Parker Washington will have to do some heavy lifting against Houston’s formidable secondary.

Question 2: What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon
: Greg Newsome Jr. vs. Nico Collins. Collins has killed the Jacksonville secondary the last couple of years as he has gone for over 100 yards in four straight matchups. For perspective, Collins has just six 100-yard games against every other team combined in his career. His primary matchup on Sunday will likely be newly acquired cornerback Greg Newsome Jr., who seems to be finally settling into the defense. If Newsome can keep Collins from going off, it could go a long way in the Jaguars sweeping the Texans for the first time since 2017.

Travis: My matchup to watch will be a (reasonably) healthy Travon Walker versus Texans backup right tackle Blake Fisher. I’m assuming starting right tackle Tytus Howard will be unable to clear the concussion protocol by Sunday, giving Jacksonville a prime opportunity to make Davis Mills feel the heat.

Gus: Liam Coen vs DeMeco Ryans. Coen was lowkey on a heater last week, as Cam Little’s 68-yard field goal was the first of six consecutive scoring drives by the Jaguars. I’m eager to see what Coen’s game plan looks like this week without both Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) and Travis Hunter (knee), although with Meyers.

Question 3: Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon
: Trevor Lawrence. With CJ Stroud out on Sunday, the Texans will lean on their defense to try and create short fields for their offense. That puts a lot of pressure on Trevor to mitigate mistakes against a D that will be looking to put him in conflict all day. The Jags’ QB1 will have to be decisive and accurate if the team’s going to complete the sweep of Houston.

Travis: Jacksonville starting slot receiver Parker Washington is my X-factor this week. He will spend much of the day matched up against Texans’ safety Jalen Pitre (or possibly a backup, if Pitre is unable to clear the concussion protocol). In a game where points may be at a premium, I expect Washington to score on Sunday.

Gus: I’ll pick Cole Van Lanen, with the assumption that Ezra Cleveland (knee/ankle) won’t suit up on Sunday after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Blindside tackle Walker Little had his worst game of the season against Houston’s Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter in Week 3 (8 pressures allowed). Whether it’s Van Lanen or a less-than-100% Cleveland, the starter at left guard needs to play well to prevent the entire left side of the line from collapsing.

Final score prediction?

Dillon
: Jaguars 20, Texans 15

Travis: Jaguars 16, Texans 17

Gus: Jaguars 20, Texans 22

Jaguars 2026 NFL Draft Picks After the Jakobi Meyers Trade

gettyimages-2236817184.jpg

A few hours before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, Jaguars general manager James Gladstone executed his sixth deal this year to acquire Jakobi Meyers.

Jacksonville sent a 2026 fourth-rounder and a 2026 sixth-rounder to Las Vegas in the process. Meyers turns 29 on Sunday and is playing on an expiring contract; his value was probably worth closer to a single fourth- or fifth-round pick.

Yet it was a necessary overpay. The offense, which leads the NFL with 25 drops this season, needed a trustable target — and quickly. Four of their top five pass-catchers (Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Brenton Strange) are in jeapordy of missing this week’s game.

The fact that Jacksonville already had 13 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft shouldn’t be a factor in analyzing this specific transaction. Throwing away trade value just because you can would be bad process. That said, it does make the overpay easier to swallow.

Here’s a list of the Jaguars’ remaining 11 draft picks in 2026.

  • Round 2
  • Round 3
  • Round 3 — via DET
  • Round 3 — via DET (compensatory)
  • Round 4*
  • Round 5
  • Round 5 — via PHI (Tank Bigby)
  • Round 6 — via PHI (Tank Bigby)
  • Round 7
  • Round 7 — via DET (Riley Patterson)
  • Round 7 — via HOU (Christian Kirk)

*Las Vegas will receive the more favorable of Jacksonville’s two 4th-rounders (their own or Minnesota’s)

Meyers played with the Raiders for the past two and a half seasons, but he has quite a reputation inside the Miller Electric Center from his days with the Patriots (2019-22).

“I have followed his career closely,” head coach Liam Coen said earlier this week. “Being in the northeast myself. The Patriots, watching those guys over the years. [He’s a] former quarterback, always appreciate that really in any skill player. But the ability—tough, strong hands, has been physical as a separator in iso situations. I’ve only heard great things about the pro. [Jaguars WRs coach] Edgar [Bennett] worked with him in the past as well. So, definitely excited to have him.”

“I don’t know him super well, but Mac Jones actually texted me when we got him,” quarterback Trevor Lawrence revealed. “He texted me and said, ‘You’re going to love him. One of my favorite guys I’ve played with.’ So, he said great things about him, and I talked to Jakobi about that today; they played together for I think three years in New England. So just hearing Mac say that, and I’ve heard a lot of really positive things about him as a person, and I’ve watched him play a good bit, and I’ve always really liked his game and the way he plays, and he’s a great player.”

“When I was at Miami, we played him like twice a year when he was in New England,” defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said. “I’m like, ‘This guy is a total pain in the ass.’ He just catches everything, and he blocks everybody … he’d go in there like a damn fullback. So, I always had a lot of respect for him as a player and coached against him in college too, actually. But he’s really—when you look at receivers, you value guys like that so much. They go make contested catches and he’s tough.”

My question to you, Jaguars fans:

Do you appreciate how much the team has invested in receivers to surround Lawrence with the best possible arsenal, or should resources be spent elsewhere with the expectation that Lawrence will elevate the players around him?

I don’t think I’ll ever be opposed to a roster-building approach that leads to more points on the scoreboard. Still, I can see the other side of the argument. I sure bet Campanile would’ve appreciated a little more attention to the pass rush.

Reacts Survey Results: Jaguars fans weigh in on Jakobi Meyers trade

This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans if they liked how the team handled the trade deadline.

83% of fans said yes.

Jacksonville_2_110625.png

Jacksonville traded a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick to Las Vegas on Tuesday to acquire Jakobi Meyers.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how his skill set fits within the system,” Jaguars general manager James Gladstone said via ESPN. “I think from afar it does. You think about where we’re at in terms of volume of drops, what’s his superpower? It’s not dropping the football, right? So you just take it from the surface level, it seems fitting.”

The Jaguars have indeed dropped a league-high 25 passes this season. Hopefully, Meyers can find an instant connection with Trevor Lawrence on Sunday, especially with top receivers Travis Hunter (knee) and Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) unavailable for Week 10.

“It hurts,” head coach Liam Coen said of not having Thomas in Houston. “B.T., he can roll, and he rises to playing against these guys he has in the past and had a huge moment for us in that game last time to seal that victory. So, not having him is a big deal for us and those guys are going to continue to have to step up again this week and go make some dirty, grimy, contested plays and that’s the kind of game it’s going to have to be.”

As for the confidence survey, 90% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — up from 83% last week.

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Was the NFL trade deadline a success?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And do you like how Jacksonville handled the trade deadline?

To me, the Jaguars’ acquisition of Jakobi Meyers was all about getting a reliable weapon for Trevor Lawrence and Liam Coen. It cost a 4th and a 6th round pick — which, for a 29-year-old on an expiring contract, was probably an overpay on paper — but the offense could truly use a 29-year-old. Their only skill position players with more seasons of experience than Lawrence are Tim Patrick, Hunter Long, and Johnny Mundt.

The Jags got a trustworthy target. Nice. What they didn’t do was address the pass rush, which still ranks last in the league in sack rate (3.3%). I can’t blame James Gladstone and company too much for not being active in the market for a defensive player, though. Did you see how much the Jets got for Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams??

Jaguars collapse in historic fashion in road loss to the Texans

gettyimages-2245893655.jpg

The Jaguars scored first in Sunday’s game against the Texans. They went up 3-0, then 10-0, then 17-0, and held a 19-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

That’s when we got hit with a case of Same Old Jags.

Subbing in for C.J. Stroud, who was inactive with a concussion, Davis Mills led three straight touchdown trips, including a 14-play, 93-yard drive to take the lead and complete the comeback. On that final possession, a defensive pass interference gave Houston a chunk gain and the backup quarterback finished the job himself by rushing for the score. It’s pretty much exactly what we saw in Jacksonville’s Week 2 loss.

More worrisome, the Jaguars lost in the same way we’ve seen for years and years: by beating themselves. Cam Little almost had a field goal opportunity at the end of the game… but a 12-yard catch that would’ve put the ball at Houston’s 33-yard line was negated by an ‘illegal use of hands’ penalty. The offense had plenty of scoring chances throughout the day… but crossed the pylon on just two of four redzone trips and went three-and-out on two fourth quarter possessions. The defense was playing with a sizable lead all day… but they couldn’t get a late stop or get home with a four-man pass rush. Mills was hit on just 9% of his dropbacks (4 of 45); Lawrence was hit on 26% (6 of 23).

The game wasn’t even as bad as previous embarrassments — it was worse. Jacksonville’s 19-point blown lead in today’s debacle was the biggest in franchise history.

Here’s everything you need to know from Jacksonville’s 36-29 loss at NRG Stadium.

Game balls

Parker Washington

Washington caught a dime from Trevor Lawrence in the corner of the endzone for the first touchdown of the day. According to Next Gen Stats, the pass only had a 28.3% chance of being completed.

The third-year receiver hit paydirt again on a shifty 73-yard punt return to give Jacksonville a 17-0 lead.

Jarrian Jones

Despite an encouraging rookie season, Jones was replaced in the starting lineup when the Jaguars signed Jourdan Lewis during the offseason to defend the slot.

With Lewis inactive today (neck), Jones stepped up and played his tail off. He stepped in front of former Jaguar Christian Kirk for an interception on the first possession of the game and later broke up a third down pass to force a punt. Jones added 2 TFLs and another 2 solo tackles to his stat sheet as well.

Cam Little

It’s a shame that we never saw Little get a chance to win the game. He’s rediscovered his confidence. The second-year kicker has made all 3 of his field goal attempts in consecutive games since Jacksonville’s Week 8 bye.

Injury roundup

  • RB Bhayshul Tuten was injured during a second quarter kickoff return but returned in time for the next one.
  • RG Patrick Mekari exited the game in the fourth quarter but returned after two plays.

Lingering questions

When will the self-inflicted mistakes get cleaned up? It’s a question that’s already been asked but yet to be answered. The Jaguars entered the game with the most penalties in the league (74), and they were penalized 9 times for 90 yards today. Perhaps the coaching staff’s youth/relative lack of experience is showing.

How will general manager James Gladstone address the pass rush in the offseason? Like the topic above, this is a team weakness that just isn’t going away. The Jaguars entered the game with a league-low 3.3% sack rate, and they mustered just 2 sacks on 45 dropbacks today (4.4%). Maybe Josh Hines-Allen isn’t an elite pass rusher, but he could certainly use some assistance!

How close are we to having a difficult conversation about Trevor Lawrence? This was another game in which it was hard to put too much weight on the quarterback’s errors, considering how many were made around him. Lawrence was somewhat set up for failure with a depleted pass-catching unit going against the top-ranked Texans defense. I don’t think he’s dragging the team down. That said, he isn’t exactly lifting them up. At what point will the organization lose interest in what he* could* be with a good roster? For the first time ever, I think Lawrence playing in a non-Jaguars uniform is an actual possibility. The case for him to be Jacksonville’s starter in 2026 and beyond has far too many excuses baked into it. He has the next eight games to convince Gladstone, Coen, and Tony Boselli that he’s their guy.

AFC Playoff Picture: Jacksonville Jaguars keep playoff spot despite loss

imagn-27546442.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars just couldn’t find a way to pull out the victory against the Houston Texans on Sunday, but they remain in playoff position thanks to their earlier win over the Kansas City Chiefs. They are tied at 5-4, but the head-to-head victory is the difference.

The Indianapolis Colts won on Sunday morning to stick in first place in the AFC South and the AFC. The Denver Broncos opened Week 10 with a win on Thursday night and the New England Patriots won Sunday and all three teams are 8-2.

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night in a huge AFC game. So L.A. moves further up the wild card standings and the Steelers fall away from the top three in the conference.

The Buffalo Bills also lost in the wild card race, and are just one game ahead of the Jaguars.

AFC playoff standings after Week 10

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a bye. The Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals are both on a bye this week, too, but far down the list.

1. Indianapolis Colts (8-2, 6-1 AFC)
2. Denver Broncos (8-2, 5-2 AFC)
3. New England Patriots (8-2, 4-2 AFC)
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4)
5. Los Angeles Chargers (7-3)
6. Buffalo Bills (6-3, 4-2 AFC)
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4, win over KC)
8. Kansas City Chiefs (5-4, loss to JAX)
9. Houston Texans (4-5, win over BAL)
10. Baltimore Ravens (4-5, loss to HOU)
11. Cincinnati Bengals (3-6)
12. Miami Dolphins (3-7)
13. New York Jets (2-7)
14. Las Vegas Raiders (2-7)
15. Cleveland Browns (2-7)
16. Tennessee Titans (1-8)

AFC South standings heading into Week 11

The Colts won on Sunday morning to stay in first place. The Titans are on a bye and will stay in last place.

1. Indianapolis Colts (8-2)
2. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4)
3. Houston Texans (4-5)
4. Tennessee Titans (1-8)

Jaguars vs Chargers: Week 11 opening odds

The Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4) will host the Los Angeles Chargers (7-3) at 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 16, at EverBank Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 2.5-point underdogs and the total is set at 44.5 points.

“The reality is we gave up a 19-point lead to lose the game,” head coach Liam Coen said of his team’s historically bad loss on Sunday.

“This one is going to sting, and it should, but we’ve got to move on. We have a big home game this week that we’ve got to get back up for. We had great energy and juice at practice this week. It showed with the way we started the game. We weren’t able to sustain that for whatever reason in the second half, and we’ll definitely have to challenge each other this week to get back on track.”

At the very least, Josh Hines-Allen should have a decent chance to break the franchise sack record. He’s currently tied with Tony Brackens with 55.0 career sacks, and Chargers starting tackles Rashawn Slater (foot) and Joe Alt (ankle) are out for the season.

Jaguars Winners & Losers from Week 10: The Backup QB Curse Strikes Again

imagn-27547438.jpg

What is it about backup quarterbacks that they get superpowers when playing the Jacksonville Jaguars?

It’s been Chad Henne before. It was Jake Browning (twice). On Sunday, it was Davis Mills winning just his sixth NFL game as he led the Houston Texans on a furious comeback to upset the Jags.

Jacksonville led 29-10 heading into the fourth quarter. They had a punt return touchdown, and even led the turnover battle. And yet the Jags flat out didn’t win. How often does that happen?

This year’s team has been a rollercoaster under a first-year head coach and first-year coordinators. It showed badly on Sunday afternoon. There have been plenty of messes this year, but that loss was definitely the worst. As can be expected, there are far more questions than answers after a defeat of that caliber. It didn’t ruin the team’s playoff position, though it did nothing to help secure it.

WINNERS

Jarrian Jones

The only defensive player you can at least make an argument about playing well over the weekend was Jarrian Jones.

Jones recorded the defense’s lone interception on Mills by jumping right in front of a route for his second career pick. He also led the team in tackles for loss with two, part of a five-TFL day for the Jags. Midway through the third quarter, Jones broke up a pass on fourth-and-5 to create another turnover for the defense.

No, he is not a perfect corner, but Jones certainly looked like he at least deserved to be playing football on the defensive side — which is more than many others could say.

Early INT for Jaguars CB Jarrian Jones!

Parker Washington

The overall best player on the day for Jacksonville was Parker Washington.

Washington caught a touchdown and returned a punt 72 yards for a score. He became the first player in franchise history to return three punts over the course of a career and the second Jag in the past 25 years to return a punt and catch a touchdown in one game.

In the absence of basically every other receiving threat, Washington has moved to WR1. Unsurprisingly, he led the team in targets with seven. His impact was basically felt just on the one touchdown catch as the passing offense went for a measly 158 yards overall, with Washington contributing 33 yards on three catches. Washington can only do so much about the rest of his offense being injured or not playing well.

Last week, I said Travis Etienne might be the team’s best offensive player. While Etienne did play alright Sunday, that crown might now belong to Washington.

LOSERS

Liam Coen

With the few bright spots now done with, we turn our attention once again to head coach Liam Coen. The question still needs to be asked: What the hell is this team practicing? How the hell is this team preparing? Because it clearly isn’t working consistently.

I am all for giving Coen a bit of grace, even at this point, when it comes to being a first-year head coach. It doesn’t just all come together overnight. However, there are glaring problems with this team that were noticeable in Week 1 that are still happening.

The offensive line has regressed mightily. The defense is Swiss Cheese. The quarterback is growing more and more lost every day. The Jags had nine penalties for 90 yards Sunday. The list goes on.

Coen has done a commendable job taking responsibility in postgame press conferences and in filmed media put out by the team. That only goes so far. It’s time to put those words into practice. No better way than to do it against a solid team in the Chargers.

”Nobody cares at the end of the day.”

Liam Coen is ready to move on from Sunday’s tough loss and shift focus to the Chargers this weekend.

Anthony Campanile

How the mighty have fallen!

Just a few short weeks ago, there were conversations being had that the Jags should be grateful for their lone season with defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile before he became a head coach next year. Those conversations have come to a halt.

This Jaguars’ roster was never going to be a world-beater. The team’s turnover flurry at the beginning of the season was always going to regress. But, wow, has this defense fallen off.

Injuries have not helped either side of the ball. Full stop. Though there are still starters along the defensive line. Many of the free agent acquisitions are still out there. Something has to be done.

All of this is just ranting, but at some point, there has to be SOMEONE on the defensive side of the ball that can step up and beat Davis freaking Mills. There is just no way that is too tall an order.

Campanile might still be a perfectly fine defensive coordinator and maybe one day a head coach. He will first have to figure out how to generate some sacks with his defensive line and how to stop backup quarterbacks from rewriting record books against his defense.

Walker Little and Chuma Edoga

What a turnstile afternoon it was for the Jaguars’ two tackles.

The Jags gave up five total sacks, 3.5 of which came to Danielle Hunter. On what could have been the drive to set up a game-winning field goal, Chuma Edoga commits a penalty. Walker Little led the team in pressures allowed with six. It was an all-around awful day for these two dudes who looked like they had never played football before.

Anton Harrison’s absence is being felt, but he certainly wasn’t playing that much better than Edoga. No one in the tackle room seems to be doing much of anything this season and it has killed the offense.

Danielle Hunter took over the game on Sunday. Very few players with his combination of speed and power. Put Walker Little in the Walls of Jericho pic.twitter.com/ZJS3qmc7aY

— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) November 10, 2025

Sacks are not just an offensive line stat, but there have now been three games where the Jags have allowed five or more sacks. The Jags are 0-3 in those games.

I find it hard to believe that James Gladstone would have given Little the contract he received from Tr**t B***ke. Each game that Little continues to play, that contract appears worse and worse. At least Edoga is supposed to be a swing guy. But he is awful right now too.

Chuma Edoga already has more penalties against him this year than in any other previous season since 2019. pic.twitter.com/2I98YWcwBu

— Nash Henry (@NashJagsNats22) November 9, 2025

Josh Hines-Allen

It brings me no pleasure to say this, but Josh Hines-Allen is not helping this team at all right now.

Hunter had more sacks on Sunday alone than Hines-Alen has all season. We can talk at length about how many times he may get double-teamed or how many pressures he gets.

At the end of the day, the dude is getting paid $88 million guaranteed to have two sacks after nine games.

The rest of his defensive line is just as pitiful. Travon Walker’s injury has basically killed this year for him. Arik Armstead still isn’t worth his contract. DaVon Hamilton exists.

When that’s the case, someone like Hines-Allen has to step up and make something happen. That just isn’t working for Jacksonville this year.

There is no world where this is solely on the shoulders of Hines-Allen. Far from it. Football is a team sport and his teammates are also failing him. You saw Hunter step up and make plays for his side Sunday when his team needed it. Where was Hines-Allen? Or anyone for that matter?

Thru 9 games, the Jags as a team have 12 sacks. It ranks dead last in the league.

Josh Hines Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead are the 6th most expensive DL in football.

All 3 were top 10 picks.

Calais Campbell (age 40) has more sacks than Allen and Walker COMBINED!!

Jaguars drop in NFL power rankings entering Week 11

gettyimages-2245069476.jpg

Jacksonville just blew a 19-point fourth quarter lead to Davis Mills and the Texans — trips to the water cooler haven’t been a little duller this week.

Still, as head coach Liam Coen said Monday, the Jaguars have more games left to play.

“This [past] game can’t beat us again. It can’t beat us on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. because we’re kicking off against the Chargers and have a very quality opponent coming into town.”

“It’s hard to move forward, but come Wednesday, we’re preparing for another opponent. When the players get back in the building, we are preparing for another opponent. We’ve got to get this tape fixed and corrected and moved on, but I’m not worried about losing the team by any means.”

As Week 11 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

USA Today: 14 (last week: 13)

From Nate Davis:

Despite Sunday’s implosion in Houston, you knew they’d make the AFC playoff field over the Chiefs if the season ended today (it doesn’t), right?

Pro Football Talk: 17 (13)

From Mike Florio:

The wheels could come off, quickly.

ESPN: 17 (15)

From Mike DiRocco:

Non-QB MVP: RB Travis Etienne Jr .

He has been the Jaguars’ best player all season and is on pace for a career-high 1,239 yards rushing. He’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry, which would be the second highest of his career if it holds. With Travis Hunter on IR and Brian Thomas Jr. dealing with an ankle injury, the offense has pretty much run through Etienne the past two games.

Bleacher Report: 17 (16)

From Kris Knox:

The Jaguars have been beaten fairly convincingly in three of their last four games—with an overtime win over the Raiders their only victory since early October—and significant issues have emerged. Opposing defenses seem to be catching up to Liam Coen’s scheme, and Trevor Lawrence hasn’t shown the growth most expected to see under the new head coach. Jacksonville’s secondary remains a liability too. After blowing a 19-point second-half lead to the Texans, the Jags need to find answers quickly if they hope to stay in the playoff picture.

NFL.com: 18 (15)

From Eric Edholm:

No sugar-coating here: This was one of the worst regular-season losses in franchise history. The Jaguars were beating the Texans and backup QB Davis Mills soundly on Sunday, up 29-10 thanks to good special teams and defense and just enough offense. Next Gen Stats gave them a 97% chance to win at that point. Somehow, Jacksonville’s defense allowed Mills to squirrel his way out of multiple sacks and lead three touchdown drives in just over a quarter, with a defensive TD tacked on as time expired for an additional layer of torture. Jacksonville is a one-point overtime win over Las Vegas away from having lost four straight. Liam Coen is facing his first crisis as Jaguars coach, as it has gotten very dark very fast.

The Ringer: 18 (17)

From Diante Lee:

Losing a multi-score lead to the Texans offense is embarrassing enough. Now, it’s time for the Jaguars to bounce back and plant their flag as a legitimate force in the AFC playoff picture, and there’s no better opportunity than against the Chargers. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence needs to put this team on his back and force his way to a victory—or that Fraud Watch sticker will be slapped on this team in record time.

CBS Sports: 19 (14)

From Pete Prisco:

Blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead to Davis Mills has to sting for this group. The defense cost them this one, but the offense doesn’t do enough.

The Athletic: 19 (15)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

Breakout player: Travis Etienne

Things aren’t going great in Jacksonville, where the Jaguars have lost three of four after a hot start. But at least Etienne is having a nice bounce-back season. He has 656 rushing yards, which ranks 12th in the league and tops last year’s total of 558. He also scored his third rushing touchdown Sunday, which topped last year’s total of two. Parker Washington, who had a 72-yard punt return touchdown Sunday and is on the way to career highs in catches and yards, deserves a nod, too.

Fox Sports: 19 (17)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

They led 29-10 in Houston entering the fourth quarter and threw it all away in embarrassing fashion. And it wasn’t just their defense. Their offense picked up just 11 fourth-quarter yards.

Yahoo Sports: 19 (19)

From Frank Schwab:

You can’t lose a game in which you lead 29-10 and are facing Davis Mills at quarterback. But the Jaguars probably didn’t deserve to win anyway. They were outgained 412-213. The offense disappeared in the fourth quarter as Houston rallied. Jacksonville isn’t a very good team.

Sports Illustrated: 20 (18)

From Conor Orr:

Here’s an interesting question for James Gladstone: What would you do if either the Rams, Jets or Browns—three of the teams with multiple first-round picks in this or next year’s draft—offered you one or both of those picks for Trevor Lawrence? I know he’s not the central issue right now after a game in which Davis Mills mounted a comeback, but that might be food for thought sooner rather than later.

Of course, it’s the Wild Card game. I’ll never forget how loud the stadium was and the rollercoaster of emotions watching the biggest comeback in Jaguars history. The Jags started chipping away at a 27-point deficit when Evan Engram caught a touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence, followed by Marvin Jones during the third. After the Chargers’ kicker Cameron Dicker made a field goal, it was all Jaguars football from there. Zay Jones and Christian Kirk scored touchdowns, and Lawrence ran in the two-point conversion. Riley Patterson’s 36-yard field goal ended the game. Jacksonville had 24 first downs and 27:21 time of possession, compared to Los Angeles’s 18 first downs and 32:39. Trevor Lawrence completed 28 out of 47 attempted passes for 288 yards and was sacked twice for a loss of 15 yards. Travis Etienne led the team with 109 rushing yards, and Evan Engram led with 93 receiving yards. Jamal Agnew averaged 33.50 yards in kickoff returns, and Logan Cooke punted three times. Foye Oluokun led the team with 13 combined tackles. Joshua Hines-Allen, Roy Robertson-Harris, Travon Walker, and Folorunso Fatukasi collectively sacked Justin Herbert three times.

Jaguars TE Brenton Strange’s 21-day practice window opened

gettyimages-2241245589.jpg

Additional help may be on the way for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the team has officially announced the opening of tight end Brenton Strange’s 21-day practice window to return from the Injured Reserve list. On Monday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen indicated that this expected move would occur, stating, “We’re obviously hopeful [Strange could play this Sunday] but have to take it day to day.” With Strange practicing this week in his return from a hip/quadriceps injury suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs in week five, the team’s recent issues of tight end depth could be nearing an end.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed TE Brenton Strange on the Injured Reserve – Designated for Return List and opened his 21-day practice period.

— JaguarsPR (@JaguarsPR) November 12, 2025

Strange can now be activated from the Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return List as early as this week versus the Los Angeles Chargers, should he respond positively to his increase in practice reps. However, if after the full 21 days have passed, the Jaguars still haven’t activated Strange, he will not be able to play the remainder of the season, including the postseason. With this move, he is now cleared to proceed with all football activities, practices, etc.

— Andrew Gibson (@1010XLAG) September 8, 2025

Strange, a second-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, has appeared in 36 total games in his first three seasons, with an expansion of his role in 2025, as the team moved on from prior starting tight end Evan Engram. Entering the week five matchup where Strange suffered his second quarter injury, the sure-handed tight end led Jacksonville pass catchers in catches (20) on just 24 targets, while landing second on the team in receiving yards (204), and a 10.2 yard per reception average.

Strange’s presence in the Jacksonville run game will be most welcomed, as he was quickly becoming known around the league as one of the best all-around tight end prospects, following league-wide attention on his physical blocking.

Jaguars vs Chargers key matchups: run game to get back on track?

imagn-27547523.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to EverBank Stadium on Sunday. Here are three battles to keep your eye on:

Travis Etienne vs Daiyan Henley

Touchdown for Etienne!

JAXvsHOU on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/SDBm25UPAx

— NFL (@NFL) November 9, 2025

There’s no easy way to say this; the Jaguars offense STUNK last week against the Houston Texans. Despite having a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, much of Jacksonville’s scoreboard dominance came from early turnovers forced by the defense, opportunities that Trevor Lawrence & co largely couldn’t convert into touchdowns and the team had to settle for field goals. And when it mattered, the Jags couldn’t move the football

The run game, fairly consistent this season, was also underwhelming on Sunday. Travis Etienne will be determined to improve on a 58-yard performance that saw him post just 3.6 yards per carry. We know that this offense typically goes how their ground game goes – in order to unlock the under-fire Lawrence his lead running back will have to deliver.

The Texans have an elite defense, and so do the Jags’ next opponents. The Chargers are coming off the back of a strong Sunday Night Football performance where they held the Pittsburgh Steelers to just 234 yards of offense. That being said, Jaylen Warren showed you can run on this defensive front with 70 yards from just 14 carries. Trying to bottle up Etienne will be third-year linebacker Daiyan Henley, who leads the Chargers this season with 67 tackles. Henley’s season is all the more impressive considering the recent death of his brother. Etienne will need to have a big day for the Jaguars to win this game.

Jarrian Jones vs Ladd McConkey

Davis Mills INT. Zero blitz. Mills makes correct decision. Just an awesome play by Jarrian Jones who filled in for Jourdan Lewis. Christian Kirk myabe could work back some, tough ask, really just a great play. pic.twitter.com/uVhqPWu26D

— Houston Stressans (@TexansCommenter) November 11, 2025

Since joining the team in free agency, Jourdan Lewis has been one of the standout performers on a spicy Jaguars defense. A neck injury sustained against the Las Vegas Raiders meant the nickel corner was absent for last week’s game against the Texans. In his absence Jarrian Jones stepped in and did well; the versatile defensive back making four tackles, two pass breakups and recording an interception on the first drive of the game. With Lewis’ outlook no clearer as of Wednesday, expect Jones to deputise in the slot once again.

Jones will have his hands full in Week 11. Ladd McConkey might only be in his second year, but he’s immediately become one of the most devastating slot receivers in the NFL. After racking up 1,149 yards as a rookie he’s continued to terrorize defenses this season – and posted his best stat line of 2025 last Sunday, turning four catches into 107 yards and a touchdown. Justin Herbert is an elite quarterback in his own right, but having a weapon like McConkey at his disposal makes his job a hell of a lot easier.

The Jags will be hoping that Jones can make a similar impact this weekend as they try to control this explosive Chargers passing game.

Travon Walker vs Trey Pipkins

— pinkpanther (@pinkpanther4056) November 10, 2025

If there’s one weakness to this Chargers team, it’s the right side of their offensive line. Devastating injuries to Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt have seen Los Angeles move pieces around in order to try and keep Justin Herbert upright. The results have been, as you might imagine, inconsistent at best. According to PFF, right tackle Trey Pipkins, right guard Mekhi Becton and center Bradley Bozeman rank near to or right at the bottom of their respective positions when it comes to grades. The Chargers appear to have survived thus far despite this vulnerability, but the Jaguars have the tools to attack them on Sunday.

There were doubts as to whether Travon Walker was worthy of the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. But since his rookie season Walker has elevated his game on an almost weekly basis, and now affects offenses every Sunday. Two back to back 10-sack seasons justify Trent Baalke’s selection (remember him?), and he’ll be chomping at the bit to get after Herbert this weekend.

If Walker can put the right side of that line on skates, the Jaguars have a chance to upset the odds and earn their sixth win of the season.

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Will Jacksonville make the playoffs?

gettyimages-2241245530.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And how do you expect this season to end?

Jacksonville certainly didn’t look like a playoff-caliber team in its most recent game. With a 5-4 record and a tiebreaker over Kansas City, though, Liam Coen’s team is still projected to make the postseason.

“It’s definitely a test,” Trevor Lawrence said of this week’s matchup against the Chargers. “Every week is a test of your team and your locker room and your culture.”

“That’s the thing about the NFL is it doesn’t let up. You can’t stay in the rear-view mirror thinking about the last one because this one is just as important.”

Jacksonville has some weak opponents left on its schedule between the 3-7 Cardinals, the 2-7 Jets, and the 1-8 Titans. The playoffs are very much in reach. Can Coen and company get the job done?

First quarter

The Texans began the game with the ball. Davis Mills found Nico Collins for a 12-yard gain on the first play, but then Montaric Brown helped cause an incompletion along the sideline before Jarrian Jones came up with an interception!

Cam Little kicked a 55-yard field goal for the first points of the game, but a penalty on Houston gave Jacksonville a fresh set of downs. Little later nailed a 32-yarder when the drive stalled out in the red zone.

Jaguars 3, Texans 0

Jacksonville forced ANOTHER turnover on the ensuing kickoff! Ventrell Miller knocked the ball out, and Danny Striggow made the recovery.

Trevor Lawrence and company were able to maximize the opportunity this time. After Travis Etienne picked up a first down on the ground, Lawrence connected with the birthday boy, new addition Jakobi Meyers, for a score. The bad news is that the touchdown was wiped off the board by a questionable false start penalty; the good news is that the next touchdown stood.

Lawrence found Parker Washington in the corner of the endzone for six!

Jaguars 10, Texans 0

Houston picked up a pair of first downs, but its drive quickly fell apart thanks to consecutive penalties and an aborted snap.

A 17-yard punt return by Washington gave the Jaguars decent field position, but a 12-yard sack by Danielle Hunter and 2nd-and-5 led to a punt.

Second quarter

An Arik Amstead sack resulted in a three-and-out for the Texans, and on the ensuing punt, Washington was not touched…

PDub has hit paydirt twice today!

Jaguars 17, Texans 0

Houston got some help from its rookies: a 27-yard catch by Jaylin Noel and a 21-yard run by Woody Marks set up a 23-yard field goal by our old friend Matthew Wright. He’s subbing in for Ka’imi Fairbairn (quad) today.

Jaguars 17, Texans 3

Jacksonville got across midfield, thanks to 16 yards via Etienne runs and 19 yards via Texans penalties. The drive stalled after Walker Little and Anton Harrison each committed a false start, but Little connected on a 53-yard field goal to extend the lead.

Jaguars 20, Texans 3

Mills completed an 11-yard pass to rookie Jayden Higgins, then threw passes of 19 and 16 yards to Collins. Marks finished the job by scoring on a 1-yard run.

Jaguars 20, Texans 10

The Jaguars had a chance to score with under two minutes remaining. Bhayshul Tuten scooted 33 yards on the kickoff return, then Washington caught a 17-yard pass. But the drive ended abruptly when Derek Stingley Jr. made a wildly impressive one-handed interception. Lawrence’s throw was a little behind his targeted receiver but it was really just a great play by Stingley.

Third quarter

Lawrence found Meyers for a 23-yard gain, then Etienne for 15 yards to move the ball past midfield. The drive stalled out when a Lawrence throw on 3rd-and-4 was batted down at the line of scrimmage. Still, the Jaguars left with points thanks to a 33-yard field goal by Little.

Jaguars 23, Texans 10

Houston turned the ball over on downs when Jones forced a pass breakup on 4th-and-5, then Jacksonville put together an 11-play drive that was capped by a 6-yard touchdown from Etienne.

Touchdown for Etienne!

— NFL (@NFL) November 9, 2025

The two-point try was no good, but the Jaguars are still up by three scores.

Jaguars 29, Texans 10

Fourth quarter

Houston scored on its next drive via a 12-yard touchdown by Higgins. Collins converted the two-point attempt.

12 minutes to go.

Jaguars 29, Texans 18

Looks like we’re gonna have to sweat this one out.

The Jaguars went three-and-out after going run-run-sack on their next possession. Mills and the Texans quickly responded, and in the blink of an eye, Dalton Schultz caught a 7-yard score to make it a one-point game. Fortunately, Brown intercepted the two-point try.

Jaguars 29, Texans 24

Once again, Jacksonville went three-and-out and Houston drove right down the field. Davis freakin’ Mills scored the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds to go. What is happening?!

DAVIS MILLS RUNS IT IN TO GIVE HOUSTON THE LEAD!

JAXvsHOU on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/bXTSUOH7ZJ

— NFL (@NFL) November 9, 2025

Jaguars 29, Texans 30

Houston scored on a strip sack fumble return as the clock clicked down to 0. Jacksonville had gotten across midfield, but a huge 12-yard catch by Washington was, of course, negated by an offensive penalty.

That’s the biggest blown lead in franchise history. What a horrible L.

Jaguars vs Chargers: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 11

gettyimages-1246245078.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 11’s matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers at EverBank Stadium.

Question 1: Jacksonville blew the biggest lead in franchise history (19 points) in last week’s loss to Houston. How did that game affect your rest-of-season expectations?

Dillon Appleman: Early in the season, the struggles felt improvable with penalties and general miscues being the main complaint. However, as the season has progressed, we have seen more flaws from a personnel perspective that aren’t really fixable in-season. Sunday’s disastrous collapse just cemented the thought that this roster is just too flawed.

Travis Holmes: The Houston game honestly did nothing to move my season projection for the team, as I initially had them winning nine to 10 games with any injury luck. They’ve been excruciatingly unfortunate in that area over the past four weeks, moving me closer to that nine-win range – just missing the playoffs. I still see four wins remaining on this schedule, though none are guaranteed. If that’s the outcome that materializes, fans may not have appreciated the journey to get there. It would show clear progress while also raising questions regarding the future of this rebuild.

Gus Logue: I previously expected Jacksonville to make the postseason, whether as a divisional winner or a Wild Card team, but now I’m not so sure. The offense may be ‘good enough’ once Brenton Strange returns but the defense doesn’t look capable of stopping anyone. Jacksonville might have the league’s worst depth at DE, DT, and Safety. As Dillon alluded to, the Jaguars just don’t have the horses, and the young coaching staff could use more experience. I think the team will barely miss the playoffs.

Henry Zimmer: Sunday’s loss showed me that this team really isn’t good enough to compete with the top-level teams. The Jags continue to lose against backup quarterbacks and teams that they should easily beat. If you can’t be the bad teams, why would anyone think you can consistently beat the good ones?

Question 2: What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon
: Justin Herbert vs. Devin Lloyd. Herbert has already more than doubled his interception total (8) from a season ago (3) and there are still seven games left in his season. A handful of those have been when he’s targeting shallow routes in the middle of the field, where Devin Lloyd has made QBs pay all season long. His play recognition in that area could be key for a defense that desperately needs a spark after an abysmal performance a week ago.

Travis: Weirdly, the matchup I’m most looking forward to on Sunday isn’t between the Jaguars versus an opponent. It’s between Justin Herbert and his natural tendency to extend plays. Herbert LOVES to hold onto the ball, looking to create an explosive play in the passing game. But missing left tackle Joe Alt last week, he was sacked 5 times against Pittsburgh despite a career low 2.21-second time to throw (his only week under 2.6 seconds this year). Throughout much of the season, he has hovered around 3 seconds per throw, allowing defenses more opportunities to bring down the athletic quarterback. With recently acquired Trevor Penning likely to start this week, does Herbert revert to his normal pace, thus allowing this Jacksonville front a rare opportunity for a multi-sack game?

Gus: Josh Hines-Allen against whoever the Chargers start at LT, whether it’s Penning or Austin Deculus. JHA only needs a half sack to break the franchise’s all-time record. This would be a pretty ideal spot to do it. He is at EverBank Stadium, playing a premier quarterback, with a strong matchup advantage, in a borderline must-win game. Get it done, 41!

Henry: I will be watching to see which quarterback outduels the other. Trevor Lawrence played awfully in the playoffs but got it back and won that game. Outside of that, Herbert has been the better quarterback since they both were drafted. Hopefully Lawrence can win the day and silence some haters (like myself) after recent weeks.

Question 3: Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon
: I’m going to answer Trevor Lawrence for this question until he finally becomes the X-factor for a win. In the last four weeks, Lawrence completed 58% of his passes for just 4 passing touchdowns. On the season, Trevor is second to last in both of those categories among QBs with 9+ games this year. Only rookie Cam Ward has worse numbers. The excuses are aplenty, and understandable to an extent, but the team needs Lawrence to start overcoming the negatives of others and figure out a way to get a win this week against the Chargers at home.

Travis: For me, it has to be right tackle Anton Harrison. At best, Harrison may play on Sunday, hobbled with knee and ankle injuries. At worst, he’s at risk of missing the matchup after not practicing on Wednesday and Thursday. With Walker Little likely to need additional running back or tight end help to slow down the rush on the opposite side, a hobbled or absent right tackle creates a disastrous matchup when facing a Chargers defense ranked seventh in the league with 29 sacks.

Gus: Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II. The dynamic rookie tight end has effectively replaced Keenan Allen as Herbert’s underneath safety valve, and he’s been a more efficient target than the likes of Tyler Warren, Harold Fannin Jr., and Colston Loveland. Gadsden is the real deal. That’s bad news for Jacksonville, which ranks in the bottom five in catches, yards, and TDs allowed to tight ends this season.

Henry: This week’s X-Factor for me has to be the Jacksonville coaches. Can Liam Coen and crew regroup from the failure that was Sunday — and the handful of poor performances outside of that — and win a game at home against a good team? Going against a Jim Harbaugh-coached squad will be a good litmus test for the Jacksonville coaches.

Final score prediction?

Dillon
: Jaguars 17, Chargers 27

Travis: Jaguars 17, Chargers 27

Gus: Jaguars 23, Chargers 24

Henry: Jaguars 21, Chargers 35

This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans how they expect the 2025 season to end.

79% of respondents do not think the 5-4 Jags will make the postseason.

Jacksonville_2_111325.png

Jacksonville is above average by its record, but below average by just about any other measure.

Hopefully, the Jaguars will clean up self-inflicted mistakes and get healthier to make a playoff push. This week’s injury report was not a pretty sight. Brian Thomas Jr. returning this week would be a huge boost, especially with Anton Harrison, Brenton Strange, and Hunter Long all ruled out.

As for the confidence survey, 59% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — WAY down from 90% last week.

I think it will come down to:

  • Timing of Strange/BTJ coming back, and whether they find a good rhythm.
  • DBs clamping playing a little tighter so our pass rush can get home
  • Trevor stepping up and being more consistent
We absolutely have the talent…and the schedule…to win enough games for a wildcard spot.
mnkman322
When looking at our outcomes versus teams and their current win totals compared to the win totals of our remaining schedule the 2025 Jaguars might be on pace to win 8.33 games this year which would likely have them missing the playoffs.

Now a win against the Chargers could greatly shift those numbers as we have 4 7+ win teams remaining to play and our current record is .000 against those caliber of teams.
justincredubil02
I think this team might be good enough to beat anyone on the schedule, and bad enough to lose to anyone on the schedule. Given that they were once 4-1 and are now 5-4, and seemingly getting worse each week, I’m leaning more towards the latter happening more often and missing the playoffs.
JaxSouthsider
I think the collapse last week keeps us out.

We need 10 wins, I think. Titans 2x and Jets would get you to 8. The Colts have their Duval Hex, but they also have their best team since Luck hung them up. Chargers and Broncos are likely losses, too. Cardinals, I give us a slight edge.

I predict we end up 9-8, thanks to an easy schedule, but the AFC seven seed will have 10 wins
not_james_bond
They have no business in playoffs. Still to many issues with this team.
WestCoastJagwar
That’s the beauty of having an inconsistent team. They can be inconsistently bad and good. Guessing that this team will make the playoffs is about the same as predicting whether the coin will land heads or tails.
tagureit
Too many players have already checked out for the season. No way they make the playoffs without other AFC teams out Jagging the Jags.
Jaguardian
Answer: Affirmative.
archwithtal
The Jags will do just good enough to be one win away from making the playoffs, or they will make the wildcard and lose the first game. That seems to be the way we are trending. Mediocrity.
Yo Daddycrapper
Jim “The ICON” Mora comes alive once again and answers this very question …
BrevardJag321
Had a chance to sweep Houston. Would be much more confident had they held on last week. I say narrowly miss the playoffs because of that. They’re gonna lose a few more but go on a run to end the season, but it won’t be enough.
