2025 NFL draft: Big Blue takes 'generational talent' in Giants Wire mock v.5

The NFL offseason has officially arrived following the conclusion of Super Bowl LIX, which we won’t rehash in order to protect the mental stability of New York Giants fans (including our own staff).

Now it’s full steam ahead toward free agency, which will completely render all mock drafts null and void. But until we reach that point, why not conduct another simulation?

As usual, we used the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator for this exercise and left all settings on default. There were no trades, we controlled only the New York Giants and limited it to four rounds.

Here’s how things played out:

Giants' Jermaine Eluemunor painfully endures Eagles parade at Disney

Since 1987, the Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl has led the parade at Walt Disney World on the following Monday.

The first to do it was New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms and this year. it was Jalin Hurts, quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Giants offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor just happened to be vacationing with his family at the resort this week and decided to skip the parade due to the excessive number of Eagles fans in attendance.

So I was going to take my daughter to the Disney parade today since it’s our last day here at Disney World. Didn’t know it was the Eagles parade also sooo guess who’s NOT going to the parade today.

— Jermaine Eluemunor (@JEluemunor) February 10, 2025

Now they’re doing the eagles chant, ruining my last day at Disney forreal but I gotta be strong for my daughter. If I see any fans climbing poles I’m reporting them

— Jermaine Eluemunor (@JEluemunor) February 10, 2025

Eagles fans are known for their passion but can take their celebrations a bit too far at times. To call them “not safe for work” would not be a stretch. No place for a young child.

Mike Kafka passed over by Saints, will return to Giants in 2025

New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has interviewed for head coaching positions in the past and this year was no different.

Kafka interviewed most recently with the New Orleans Saints, who announced today that they plan to hire Kellen Moore as their new head coach, passing Kafka over.

The #Saints are finalizing a deal with Kellen Moore as their new head coach, sources tell The Insiders.

GM Mickey Loomis called other candidates today to deliver the news. At age 36, coming off a Super Bowl win with the #Eagles, Moore gets his shot to run the show. pic.twitter.com/Sg1jnOnp9I

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 11, 2025

Kafka joined the Giants in 2022 after spending five years with the Kansas City Chiefs in various roles with quarterbacks and the passing game. He came to the Giants as their offensive coordinator and in 2024, he added the title of assistant head coach.

Kafka was stripped of his play-calling duties after the 2023 season, but clearly that wasn’t the problem with the offense after the Giants’ 2024 performance. And that’s why there is a sentiment around the organization that Kafka will resume play-calling duties this year.

Coaching hires are largely completed at this point, so Kafka will return to New York and resume his previous duties as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 2025.

Giants could open 2025 regular season against Eagles, Saquon Barkley

The New York Giants are still reeling after a 3-14 season while their most hated rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, revel in their dominant Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

As Super Bowl champions, the Eagles will play the host for the 2025 regular season opener on Thursday Night Football in Week 1.

Their opponent could be any of the eight teams on the Eagles’ home schedule, one of which is the New York Giants.

The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles will open the 2025 NFL season at home on Thursday night. Who will they face? Here are the options:

🏈
Commanders
🏈
Cowboys
🏈
Giants
🏈
Bears
🏈
Lions
🏈
Raiders
🏈
Rams
🏈
Broncos

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 10, 2025

The Washington Commanders, the team the Eagles defeated in the NFC Championship Game last month, would make the most marketable opponent as would the Detroit Lions, who were the No. 1 seed in this year’s NFC Playoffs.

Then there are the Giants, the team the football world loves to torment these days after they allowed star running back Saquon Barkley to the Eagles, leading them to the Super Bowl.

The Giants are also likely to have a new look, especially at quarterback, so there will be some added interest to the matchup.

Since Bran Daboll took over as head ocas of the Giants, the Eagles have won five of the six meetings in the regular season and their one meeting in the postseason.

Giants great Amani Toomer responds to Michael Strahan waiving Eagles flag

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, New York Giants legend Michael Strahan interviewed Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show.

At the end of that interview, Strahan did the unthinkable.

Oh boy pic.twitter.com/Pj7tFDGx5b

— Evan Roberts (@EvanRobertsWFAN) February 9, 2025

“We’re going to ‘fly, Eagles fly’ for Saquon Barkley,” Strahan said as he waived the Eagles flag.

It was a shocking new low for the Giants, who closed out the worst and most humiliating season in franchise history. To see their all-time sack leader, captain, and Hall of Famer waiving the enemy’s flag was a gut punch.

Strahan’s stunt furiously angered Giants fans, but retired wide receiver Amani Toomer says there was more to it than just support for Barkley.

ICYMI on @ESPNNewYork:

Amani Toomer told @ChrisCarlin & @BartScott57 that Michael Strahan's waving of the Eagles flag is a warning shot at the Giants. pic.twitter.com/N7nlVO4pX0

— Bart & Carlin (@BartAndCarlin) February 10, 2025

“That’s a shot across the bow; that’s a warning shot,” Toomer said on Bart & Carlin. “We want results. We want to be proud of the organization that we shed blood, sweat, and tears (for). We’re not just going to waive the pom-poms if we don’t feel like it’s a product that is worth waiving the pom-poms for.

“That’s why we’re holding them accountable like they held us accountable for 13 of my years and 15 of Strahan’s years. So, don’t be mad at that. Don’t let the anger fall away from where it should be.”

Asked about Strahan’s actions and Toomer’s comments, Giants legend Carl Banks expressed an understanding of each.

“He’s not lying,” Banks wrote on X. “Michael can speak for himself. I do know that none of us are pleased with the state of the Giants.”

This is a precarious position for the Giants to be in. Their legends are so disgusted with the state of the franchise that they have found it acceptable to waive the Eagles flag. And while that has enraged some Giants fans, there is another subsection that has become so numb they, too, rooted for the Eagles.

The Giants should be embarrassed from the top down.

NFL greats recall dominant run defense of Giants LB Carl Banks

When recalling the great defenses of the New York Giants back in the Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick era, the first name that rolls off the tongue is their legendary linebacker, Lawrence Taylor.

Other players who get recognition are Hall of Fame linebacker Harry Carson and dominating defensive end Leonard Marshall.

Carl Banks? He was good, too. Correction: Banks was better than good.

The low-key Banks, the third overall selection by the Giants in the 1984 NFL draft, was one of the best outside linebackers of his era. To this day, many NFL historians and former players recount just how good Banks was in Taylor’s shadow.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Baldy once told me that Banks was one of the best OLB’s against the run he played against and that teams game planned to run away from him. Yes, even with LT on other side.

— The Giant Insider Podcast and Newspaper (@GiantInsider) February 11, 2025

The “Baldy” being referred to here is Brian Baldinger, a former offensive lineman who played for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Philadelphia Eagles in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Baldinger, now an NFL Network analyst, is well-respected for his analysis and, as a contemporary of his, can confidently say his first-hand accounts of Banks’ play are dead-on.

Banks, now a game day radio voice during Giants games along with Bob Papa, has garnered many an accolade over the years.

Papa tweeted out that the great Hall of Fame offensive tackle Anthony Munoz once told him that Banks “told me the same” thing about Banks that Baldinger had claimed regarding teams running away from Banks.

1987: The best pair of OLB in the NFL in the 80s was @LT_56 & @CarlBanksGIII. They both made the Pro Bowl & named All Pro in 1987. Banks stuffed Herschel to tackle Dorsett for a loss & 3 plays later LT snagged a pick out of nowhere. LT then got a sack/fumble at Dallas #Giants100 pic.twitter.com/nPxiNSjipP

— BigBlueVCR (@BigBlueVCR) February 11, 2025

Banks is a member of the Giants Ring of Honor and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1980s. He was an All-Pro selection in 1987.

Banks was a legend in college at Michigan State where he was a three-time All-Big Ten selection. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and the MSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.

Banks was a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

Giants have NFL's worst odds to win Super Bowl LX

The Super Bowl is over and now most of the football world is focused on the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

That means predicting who will be in next year’s game, which will take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The folks at BetMGM say don’t expect the New York Giants to be there. They have them at 200-1 to win Super Bowl LX — the highest odds on the board along with the Tennessee Titans.

Three other teams, the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and New Orleans Saints, have the next longest odds at 150-1.

What do all of these teams have in common? None has a franchise quarterback. The Titans, Browns, and Giants, who will select 1-2-3 in April’s NFL draft, can all solve that issue this spring.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are favored to repeat at 6.5-1 followed by the Baltimore Ravens (7-1), Buffalo Bills (7.5-1), Kansas City Chiefs (7.5-1), and Detroit Lions (8.5-1).

Giants' Tyrone Tracy Jr. ranked among NFL's worst starting running backs

One of the few bright spots for the New York Giants amid one of their most disappointing seasons in franchise history was the rookie performances of Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Tracy’s impressive rookie year came as a bit of a surprise after being drafted in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2024 NFL draft.

Entering the season, Tracy was set to back up free agent acquisition Devin Singletary. However, it wasn’t long before he earned his way to becoming the primary back.

Despite Tracy’s impressive rookie campaign, he ranked among the worst starters in the league in a list recently compiled by Maurice Jones-Drew for NFL.com.

Rank 25

Tyrone Tracy Jr.

New York Giants · Rookie

2024 stats: 17 games | 192 att | 839 rush yds | 4.4 ypc | 5 rush TDs | 38 rec | 284 rec yds | 1 rec TD | 2 fumbles lost

Tracy played minimally in the first month of the season, appearing on no more than a third of the Giants’ offensive snaps in any game. But after Devin Singletary’s injury, the 2024 fifth-round pick stepped up for Big Blue, averaging nearly 14 carries per game over the final 13 games, and ended the season with 1,100 scrimmage yards. There’s a chance Tracy will be given a bigger role in 2025.

The tandem of Tracy and Singletary, of course, had impossible shoes to fill following the departure of Saquon Barkley. Somehow, despite a handful of injuries to the offensive line and a revolving door at quarterback, Tracy made the most of his opportunity and put together 1,000 scrimmage yards on his season.

Tracy will certainly be a piece to build around as the Giants try to improve the roster.

Jaguars expected to meet with Giants' Brandon Brown via Zoom

New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown is reportedly on the list to be interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ general manager vacancy.

#Jaguars conducted several zoom interviews for GM candidates this week and will do several more over the next two days. Among expected group is three assistant GMs — Ian Cunningham (Bears), Chad Alexander (Chargers), Brandon Brown (Giants) — and former Titans GM Jon Robinson

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) February 13, 2025

Brown has been a frequent target of teams in the front office carousel the past few seasons. Last year, Brown interviewed for the Carolina Panthers’ general manager opening.

This offseason, he had multiple interviews with the Las Vegas Raiders, who decided to go with John Spytek.

Brown, 36, has been with the Giants in his capacity as Joe Schoen’s assistant for the past three seasons, coming over from the Philadelphia Eagles organization where he worked under general manager Howie Roseman.

Should Brown be hired away, the Giants would receive compensatory third-round selections in each of the next two drafts as per Resolution JC-2A, a policy that awards a club picks for losing minority candidates to other clubs in executive or head coaching positions.

The boos were so loud that it left Swift stunned, leading to a viral moment between her and fellow recording artist, Ice Spice.

The reaction to the iconic superstar briefly took center stage, drawing the attention of players on both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, where her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays tight end.

For Kelce, it was reportedly a heartbreaking moment that left him feeling “helpless”

Former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was also put off by the reaction to Swift, which he detailed during a Tuesday appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show.

“You know, I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there,” Barkley said, as transcribed by FOX News. “She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger.

“You know, we’re all about, in football, we’re all about, you know, how can we expand the game and make it more, you know, internationally and we’re traveling to Brazil and we’re traveling to Mexico, and you know, apparently we’re traveling to Australia soon, so we’re trying to expand the game and, you know, her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”

Swift’s presence at Chiefs games has become a point of contention among football fans. However, not once has Swift asked to be the center of attention, and has reportedly even requested she not be shown during broadcasts so as to not be a distraction.

As many times as Swift has been shown over the past two years, she has never received a reaction as negative and boisterous as the one experienced during Super Bowl LIX.

The 2025 NFL Combine will be held from February 27 through March 2 in Indianapolis, Indiana. It’s the final pitstop for prospects before the 2025 NFL draft.

Following the combine’s conclusion, NFL teams will begin to conduct their top 30 visits and for the New York Giants, that will include a meeting with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

While appearing on the Well Off Media YouTube channel, which is run by his older brother, Deion Sanders Jr., Shedeur could be heard telling the Colorado athletic department about his early visit schedule.

“The ’30 visits’ start like March 4,” Sanders said while working out. “I’ve got the Browns (first), then the Giants. That’s the only two right now.”

The Cleveland Browns select second overall in the draft, one spot behind the Tennessee Titans (No. 1) and one spot ahead of the Giants (No. 3).

All three teams are potentially in the market for a rookie quarterback and heavily scouted Sanders, as well as Miami quarterback Cam Ward and others, throughout the 2024 college season.

The Giants and Sanders have been closely linked for several months. He and head coach Brian Daboll have developed a close relationship and his father, Deion Sanders, has suggested multiple times that Shedeur could potentially land in East Rutherford.

Giants listed among best fits for Rams QB Matthew Stafford

The New York Giants are in the market for a new quarterback this offseason for both the short and long term.

General manager Joe Schoen said in his year-end press conference that the team will explore all options and all avenues to fill up their quarterback room this offseason.

“It’s the most important position in football,” Schoen said. “You look at the roster right now, Tommy (DeVito) is the only quarterback on the roster. So, that’s definitely important to any team in the NFL’s success. So, that’s something we’ll definitely be looking at.”

The Giants hold the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft and have nearly $50 million in available cap space to work with. They could find themselves in a position to select one of this year’s top two quarterback prospects in the draft — Miami’s Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.

They can also explore both free agency and the trade market, where CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani believes they are a prime landing spot for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who could be made available this offseason.

Here’s an interesting fit. The Giants certainly could select a quarterback at No. 3 overall, but then Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen would be putting their jobs on the line for a rookie. If they are simply not sold on Ward or Sanders, Stafford would be a great option for the Giants. He and Malik Nabers could be a fun duo to watch.

There is also a family connection for Stafford in New York now. The Giants hired former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant Chad Hall to be their new assistant quarterbacks coach. Hall is the brother of Stafford’s wife, Kelly. If we get to the point where the Rams decide to trade Stafford, he would have a say in his destination. Hall’s hiring probably makes the Giants a more attractive landing spot for the Stafford family.

Stafford seems to have been around forever but is still only 37. He could come in and play a season other two to tide the Giants over until they can switch off to their next franchise quarterback.

The New York Giants selected wide receiver Kadarius Toney in the first round of the 2021 draft. He’s played just four seasons in the NFL and has suited up for three different teams, most recently with the Cleveland Browns.

Injuries and off-field problems have plagued Toney’s career, culminating in a recent arrest.

According to TMZ Sports, Toney has been accused of putting his hands around a woman’s throat “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe” in a Georgia home on January 14.

On January 15, a warrant was issued for Toney’s arrest.

The alleged attack left red marks around the woman’s neck and caused petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes. On top of that, Toney reportedly took the woman’s phone from her during the altercation so she could not call 911.

On February 6, Toney was taken into custody in Douglas County on one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls.

In his short time with the Giants, Toney recorded 41 receptions for 420 yards and zero touchdowns over 12 games. In the middle of the 2022 season, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he helped them to their first of two straight Super Bowls.

Toney spent most of 2023 with one injury or another and was released by the Chiefs ahead of the 2024 season, ultimately joining the Browns’ practice squad.

Toney’s bond was set at $25,000 per count. As of this writing, he has not released a statement.

Could Eli Manning join group that buys minority stake in Giants?

News broke on Thursday night that the New York Giants were exploring the possibility of selling upwards of a 10 percent stake in the team.

Shortly after word went viral, team ownership confirmed their interest via ESPN.

The New York Giants are putting a limited stake in the team on the market, they said Thursday night, with the process likely to set a record for an NFL franchise valuation.

The Giants are looking into the possibility of selling up to 10% of the team.

As fate would have it, legendary quarterback Eli Manning has expressed an interest in NFL ownership with a notable caveat: He’d only be interested in owning part of the New York Giants.

“It’s definitely something of interest,” Manning told Alex Sherman of CNBC Sports. “There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing, and it’s the one I played for 16 years, and it’s local and makes the most sense, but we just got to figure out if they would ever sell a little bit or how that might happen for the Giants.”

How motivated the Giants are to sell is unclear and costs will be determined as part of the pre-sale valuations, but don’t be surprised to see Manning dip his toe into the waters.

Although co-owner John Mara and Steve Tisch intend to maintain operation control of the team, someone like Manning could have an impact similar to what we’ve seen with Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders.
